getting emotional over footage of an amateur scuba diver interacting with a coelacanth. they are hunted by large deepwater predators, and here comes a large creature bearing the brightest lights it's ever seen, making strange noises, but it does not shy away. it hovers, calmly, as the diver reaches out and trails a hand down its back. im strongly against the anthropomorphizing of real life animals but the stupid emotional part of me loudly insists this is because it recognizes us, the alternating movements of its four paired limbs matching the diver's four paired limbs, & it is thinking, "hello, cousins, we missed you these 66 million years, it's so good to see you again. welcome back, welcome home."

one thing that really interests me is the idea of singing as an act of radical defiance and acceptance. You have the examples in media (ie the hanging tree in thg), but I've also read of the nuns in Nagasaki who, while lying in unimaginable pain in the atomic wreckage, died singing. I just read of three men who died in a concentration camp in WWII singing the Canticle of the Sun by St Francis of Assisi. You see it in the Magnificat (although perhaps not technically singing), and you see in it Of Gods and Men. I know these are mostly religious examples, but it's something that stuck with me because beauty, in being inherently dignified, can also be inherently defiant

getting married to lydia in skyrim is so funny it's like hi guys this is my wife. who loves standing directly in front of my fireballs so that when she collapses on the floor charred and on the brink of death i feel immense guilt. one time i forgot her in my grim morthal manor house with nothing but a "skull room" in it. she exclusively refers to me as "thane" even though we're married and I'm not sure if it's a kink thing or not. i have eaten several dragon souls in front of her. one time i also cheated on her by getting married to a hagraven in the middle of the night after partying with actual sanguine but she forgave me and helped me on my drunken crawl towards redemption the next day. actually come to think of it she might still be in the skull room i should probably do something about that. if I don't tell her explicitly to come with me she just kinda stands in one place forever. yeah it's a bit of an issue. maybe we should see a therapist about dependency.

the sandra lynn / fig conversation is driving me Insane. fig saying that sometimes she doesn’t wanna exist as herself at all…not wanting to ask her friends how they see her (because she’s afraid to hear their response) saying that to someone she is a monster and she Cannot stop thinking about it. sandra lynn starting the conversation saying she needs to step up but is also simultaneously taken aback about what fig expresses and doesn’t know how to responds to it and suggests getting ice cream. sandra lynn saying “convincing people they deserve good things is really tough” talking about herself but how it also reflects fig. insane!!
