you try to pull away from frido when your feelings become too much to handle.
you didn't think it was possible for you to be so stupid. there had never been a doubt in your mind about following frido and ingrid from wolfsburg to barcelona. they were your best friends, and it made ingrid feel a lot better if she was close enough to really look out for you. what you couldn't believe was how quickly you managed to fall for frido once mapi came into the picture.
in all actuality, you had always had feelings for frido. she was kind, caring, and gorgeous. however, she had always ever spoken about boyfriends. you knew that didn't mean your crush was completely hopeless, but you also had trouble imagining a reality where frido liked you back.
you could think of a million reasons why frido wouldn't have felt the same way about you. there would always be so many things standing in the way of your happy ending. you were fairly certain that frido was straight since she had never shown an interest in any of your other teammates before. if it wasn't that, then the age gap was sure to get you. you had been barely 18 whenever the two of you had met, and it didn't help that ingrid had introduced you as "the baby" of the norweigan team.
'baby norway' was what they had been calling you since your call up to the national team at the tender age of 15. you had been a super sub back then, but it had only taken you a year and a half to become a consistent starter. you'd been blessed with practically no injuries, none that required rehab or surgeries at the very least. however, all of that came crashing down around you at barcelona.
it had started with a little tweak of your ankle during practice. frido cursed herself for not noticing it earlier whenever you went down at the next game. you knew that it wasn't her fault, you had already begun to pull away from her. still, she sat with you in the trainer's room while it got checked out.
"frido, you don't have to stay here," you told her. ingrid was out on the pitch and mapi was sitting in the stands with the rest of the injured players. you had hoped that frido would have stayed on the pitch, but instead, she had been insistent on coming with you. it was hard for you to avoid your feelings whenever frido openly showed how much she cared for you.
"jona has already subbed me off. am i just supposed to leave you here all by yourself?" frido asked you. you opened your mouth to tell her that was exactly what she should do, but she cut you off first. "don't be ridiculous. you and ingrid were there for me whenever i got hurt. i want to be here for you too."
"frido, please. this is the last thing that i need right now. just, go take a shower and calm down," you said. frido couldn't come up with a reason to argue with you, so she reluctantly left you in the trainer's room. once she was gone, you laid back and took a deep breath. it felt like a weight was lifted off of your chest once she was gone, only to be replaced by guilt clawing its way through your throat. frido just wanted to be there for you, but you couldn't get over your stupid feelings for her long enough to let her.
"so, tell me again why i'm the one picking you up from the hospital when i know for a fact that frido asked to do this?" ingrid asked you. she had been around countless times when frido offered to take care of you or escort you from appointment to appointment.
"we haven't gotten to spend much time together lately, and i missed you, that's all." it wasn't a complete lie, but ingrid knew that it wasn't the whole truth either. she pulled down a side street and turned her car off. you couldn't get out on your own, so the two of you were trapped there until ingrid got the truth out of you.
"did something happen between the two of you?" ingrid asked. you shook your head as you pulled your good leg up into the seat in front of you. you rested your head against your knee to keep it turned away from ingrid. "you still love her, don't you?"
"of course i love her, she's my best friend. i came all the way from germany for her, ingrid. i just didn't know that i couldn't be around her alone," you confessed. ingrid paused as she took in your words. you had always been adamant that you came for both of your friends, even if ingrid knew otherwise. she knew all about the secret feelings you kept for frido, just like she knew how conflicted frido felt about you.
"mapi is going to kill me for this, but i want you to stay with me for the next week or so, okay? neither frido nor i want you to be alone, but i won't force you to stay with her if you can't handle it," ingrid told you. you thanked her quietly as she started the car up again and drove off towards her apartment.
she didn't tell you about frido already being at your place. ingrid didn't tell you a lot of things, just like she didn't tell frido anything either. she kept both of your secrets until one of you were ready to come out with it. she wanted to help you desperately, but knew that it wasn't her place to put it all out in the open.
"i don't get it. did i do something?" frido was practically tearing her hair out as she sat on the couch next to ingrid and aitana. your stay with mapi and ingrid had ended over a week ago, but you were still dodging all of frido's texts and calls.
"it's not you, i promise," ingrid reassured the older woman. "the baby just has some things to work out, that's all. this is a difficult time for her, she's going through a lot."
"but why is she pushing me away? i could help her, but she won't let me." tears sprung to frido's eyes. you had always seemed closer with ingrid because of your shared nationality, but it had never been an issue for frido before. "i need a minute."
"frido, wait!" ingrid shouted. frido was standing, but she didn't make a move to leave her place. "let me drive you to (y/n)'s. i think you two realy need to talk."
"she doesn't want anything to do with me. i'm not you, it's okay," frido said. ingrid sighed and pulled frido outside. the drive from your place was pretty short, usually just a ten minute walk.
ingrid felt bad about blindsiding you, but this conversation couldn't wait any longer. both you and frido were tearing yourselves apart trying to navigate feelings and your friendship. ingrid knew how easy it could be for both of you, and that was all she wanted. she just wanted her friends to be happy, even if the thought of making a move terrified the both of them.
you hadn't expected any visitors, so ingrid and frido's arrival had taken you by surprise. ingrid shoving frido through your front door and closing it for you was an even bigger one. ingrid knew practically everything, and yet, here she was forcing you to be alone with the person who had been giving you so much grief for the past few months.
"i think we need to talk, but i don't know what to say to you," you told frido. you hobbled over to your couch and sat down. frido just stood in front of you and paced around your living room. "fridolina, calm down."
"no, i can't. i am sick and tired of being calm about this. you've got me worried sick. i care about you so much, and i want to help you through whatever this is, but you won't let me. i know that i'm not ingrid, and i'm sorry, but fuck! let me help you." frido's voice grew as she spoke, but she never really got close to shouting at you. "talk to me, please. i miss the way things were in germany, it felt so much easier back then."
"trust me, it was never any easier. we just weren't alone back then like we are now," you told her. frido glanced down at you, a look of confusion on her face. "i don't want you to be ingrid, frido. i love you for you, and that's the problem."
"your problem is that you love me?" frido asked you. you nodded, unable to look up and meet her gaze. you kept your eyes down as you felt her approach you. the couch dipped down as frido sat down next to you. you shuddered when her arm wrapped around you, even though you had been craving her affection since you started to distance yourself. "look at me, (y/n), please."
"i can't," you whispered. frido sighed as she pressed a kiss to the side of your forehead. "i can't do this. i have to talk to jona. i have to go back to wolfsburg or just somewhere else."
"don't run away from your feelings. just look at me, please," frido pleaded with you. she was on the verge of getting on her knees and begging you to look at her. you didn't know why, but something in her voice compelled you to go against your instincts.
your eyes met tearful blue ones, and you nearly broke because of it. frido gently caressed your cheek, rubbing her thumb along your cheekbone as she stared at you. there was no disgust or pity in frido's eyes, which caught you by surprise. all you could see was relief. your friendship didn't implode on the spot because of your admission, which filled you with a relief that you couldn't even begin to describe.
"i love you too," frido told you. she leaned forward and pressed her forehead against yours. her eyes flicked down to your lips before coming back up to meet your eyes again. "can i kiss you?"
frido barely managed to finish her sentence before you were lurching forward. she caught your body in her arms, allowing for you to practically lay on top of her as the two of your lips met in a passionate kiss. frido began to push you back a bit to catch her breath. you let out a whine as her lips moved off of yours.
"i've wanted this for so long that i don't ever want to stop," you said quietly. frido smiled as she pressed a quick kiss to your lips. "i thought you'd hate me if i told you how i felt. i had tried for so long to be cool and casual, but i couldn't. the more time we spent here without ingrid, the harder it became."
"i wish that you had told me how you felt, but i am not sure that i would have accepted it at first. i think we were both going through something, but that's over now. we have each other, and if you're willing to give me a chance, i'd like to see where this goes." frido's words made your heart swell a little with happiness. it was an odd feeling, finally having your feelings reciprocated. you didn't know what to do with yourself. you didn't know where things were going, but you hoped that they flowed as easily and naturally as your friendship with her had.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
request. “the cameras at emily's game are always panning towards you be ur in complete awe of her and everyone loves it : and theres a moment where its halftime and its a cute segment of you and emily being cute n kissing 🥹”
tag-list. @euphternal
synopsis. every moments of emily’s matches are important—but the most loved ones are definitely the ones with you in it.
author’s note. loooove this! i’m still working on the other requests, don’t worry, i’m just posting the ones that i’ve already done. i don’t know if it’s good, i’m quite skeptical about ut but i tried my best. hope you’ll like this 💖
help. schatz means treasure in german.
more fics. my head-cannons about emily having a girly gf. go take a look 💋
Tumblr media
“oh god, wait for me please!” you practically shout, trying to make your voice perceptible among the screaming crowds.
“take my hand” emily’s sister screams to you, grabbing your hand in hers and leading you through the basket-ball court—whose filled with people, coaches and cameras ready to record.
while searching for your seats, you can’t help but smile a little when you see more than half of the stands being full of fans—all of them wearing their favorite team’s jersey, some even waving their hand-made board in the air; trying to get one of the players’ attention.
you didn’t expect today’s match to be this full, but you’re not the one complaining—being genuinely happy to witness the fans’ interest increasing for your girl’s team.
the louisville team’s girls work really hard every single day. so, watching them getting the recognition they deserve can’t do anything but warm your heart.
looking around you, you feel the hand of em’s sister tightening around yours; the big-ass crowds scaring you two a little bit—even though you got used to it, it still feels a little bit scary to be surrounded by hundreds of people who don’t really care about pushing you down the floor, or even squashing you and not apologising for it.
“right here!” it’s your turn to lead danielle to your seats, once you finally find them.
climbing up the little stairs, you smile to the few fans that recognise you—even ask some of them how they are doing—and finally take place on your assigned chair, danielle sitting next to you.
“it’s so full today, what even happened?” she says, taking her phone out of her pocket to send her little sister a message—letting the latter know that the two of you are still alive.
“don’t know. it’s cool though, maybe they’ll stop sleeping on emily” you shrug, the blonde laughing at your pouting face.
everyone knows that you’re emily’s number one fan.
firstly because it is your girlfriend duties to be supportive, but also because the cameramen always find a way to sneak footage of you cheering loudly on your girl—ass off your chair, mouth wide open and all.
at first, it was only little sequences of you encouraging em and the team.
but at some point, those little sequences became longer ones—ones where we can see you getting from a cheering state, to a love-sick one; heart-eyeing your girl each time she was in your radar (which means every time since you’re obsessed with her).
the fans found your behaviour endearing.
but what they found even more endearing, were all the half-times when you couldn’t help yourself but run down those stairs and join emily’s awaiting arms—snatching some coo’s out the crowds.
slowly, your whole persona started to attract attention.
everyone loved how much care and support you gave to your girlfriend. you always let her know that she’s doing so well, ramble about how she’s a brilliant player full of talent and that her hard-work will always pay off.
and they adored the way you didn’t care about the cameras—still ready to get up from your seat to shout loudly if it was needed.
the cameramen kind of understood the people’s attraction; and finding your reactions interesting enough to be filmed, they couldn’t help but start feeding it—cameras following your every little moves when you were seen at a game.
it doesn’t really bother you; you might not even notice it, too caught up in the game to do so—only realising that you’re being filmed when danielle’s elbow hit your side, or when the little laughs around you get a little bit louder.
since then, the photographs’ pastime always turns out to be recording your slightest reactions.
“oh gosh, they’re already on your ass” you hear danielle chuckles on your right, the palm of her hand hiding her smiling lips. “how does it feel to be a superstar?” she asks right away, amused by this whole situation.
“dumb ass…” she laughs again when you press your elbow against her side, and you smile a little—eyes focused on the court in front of you.
a few minutes pass by; your girlfriend’s sister and you chatting during each one of them, before abruptly stopping to loudly cheer when the players finally make their entrance.
you were already cheering, but now that you finally see your baby walking out the dressing-room, you’re cheering twice as loudly—and you can’t help it. it’s like an automatic reflex type of shit.
from up there, you see emily looking around the stands—snatching more screams from the fans—and then getting attacked by hailey, who jumps on her back while pointing at you and danielle.
locking eyes with your girl, you practically feel your cheeks hurting from smiling too much. “she’s so, UGH” danielle bursts out laughing, and you smile a little—still mesmerised by your girl’s beauty.
from her neatly braided hair, to her sexy-ass tattooed legs, everything about her makes you a giggling mess. and the cameraman, whose been recording you since the beginning, seems to be living for it.
your eyes still locked, you take advantage of her not doing anything and tell her that you love her—ready to shout it out without a doubt, with your face on the national television or not.
hearing your scream, the whole louisville team’s burst with laughter—some of them teasing emily, who don’t seem to care; too busy saying it back to you.
“you two are so cute, it’s sickening” you hear danielle mumbling, the girl shaking her head like a disappointed mom. it’s your turn to laugh, pinching her cheek.
“awww, we love you too dan’” she rolls her eyes but smiles nonetheless when you press a little kiss on her cheekbone. “jealous bitch…” you mutter once you’re comfortably seated, danielle gasping loudly before slapping your arms a few times.
the opposite teams dap each other’s up, and soon enough—the match begins.
your ass, during the whole first part of it, is definitely not on your chair, too busy cheering like there’s no tomorrow to do so. you even argued with the referee from your seat, danielle laughing her ass off next to you and the cameras setting their lens on your screaming figure.
it’s already half-time when danielle leaves to go get drinks and snacks, leaving you alone.
some fans sitting behind you call your name, and next second, you’re turned in their direction—speaking about the match and the louisville team’s score.
too caught up in your discussion, you don’t even remember yourself to turn in your seat and watch your girlfriend—but one of the girls in front of you does it for you, her eyes trailing on the basket-ball court before widening in shock. “oh my god! emily ensgtler’s looking in our direction!” she screams, attracting some of the crowd’s attention.
spinning on your chair, you can’t help but smile with all your teeth when you lock eyes with your girl—the german waving her hand in your direction, silently asking you to run down those stairs; which you are already doing.
“baby—oh!” she lets out a small scream when your whole body violently collides with hers, her tattooed arms automatically moving to wrap themselves around your waist.
smiling against the skin of her neck, you embraced her as hard as you can, not even minding her sweaty state.
the two of you swing a little from left to right, entangled with each other, before you finally decide to get your face out of her collarbone—puckering your lips for her to press hers against them.
humming into the kiss, you don’t even hear the crowd cooing, enamoured by the blonde girl in front of you. “you played so well baby” she smiles softly, pride and appreciation filling her up. “‘m so proud of you, you don’t even know how much” you add, locking your eyes with hers—letting her know that everything’s coming out your mouth is sincere.
“thank you baby, means a lot” you know that she’s not heavy on expressing her feelings and all—especially not in front of hundreds of people—so you appreciate her trying. “you know, i couldn’t play so well if my little cheerleader wasn’t there” she pinches your hip, watching intently as your cheeks become red.
“it’s my job, i take it very personally!” the blonde laughs, her smile making your heart melts.
her inked fingers get tighter on the fabric of your pants. “oh i know schatz, i know…” a little silence takes place—and you rest your forehead against hers.
being with emily is like muting the world’s noises, everything’s become clear and much more bearable.
she’s like every illnesses’ remedy—or at-least to yours, because, ironically enough, you swear you’ve never been this healthy before.
she brings to you so much happiness, love and care, and you do it too—drowning her under tons of affection and appreciation.
to you, it feels like you were put on earth to complete each other.
to the cameras, you were just another cute couple who happens to be very supportive of each other—one showing it more than the other, by screaming and shouting cheers every time she gets the chance to.
but who cares about what they can possibly think about you two?
as long as you’re still here to loudly cheer on her, and that she has your body in between her arms at the end of the day—emily doesn’t give two fucks.

Power Couple - CC
Tumblr media
Pairing: Caitlin Clark x Reader
Summary: Life during Caitlin and your rookie season - Based on THIS request
Warnings: None that I can think of :) just some fluff for ya
Word Count: 4.8k
Sweetbans Masterlist
AN: I don't know much about soccer but I tried my best! I hope you enjoy! Please let me know what you think 🤍
The first time Caitlin knew you were something special was in high school. The two of you faced off on the soccer field during a game. This was when Caitlin still played soccer and was figuring out if she wanted to pursue soccer in college or basketball. She ended up going with the latter and was thankful for it because you were a force to be reckoned with.
You had nearly a perfect game. Your team came out on top but no thanks to a certain player on the other team. When the game was over and your team was going around saying 'good game' to the other team you pulled no.23 in.
"You almost gave me a run for my money, keep it up babe," you say as you bring her into a half hug so you can whisper it in her ear. You give her hip a little pinch before shaking hands with her coaches.
Caitlin is left speechless. She goes back into the locker room - star-struck and a little confused. She has never really been interested in anyone and has never really had the time to date but you had her wanting more. That night, she did some IG stalking and found you. She spent the whole evening looking through your page and all your tags. She went through all your teammate's photos and even searched you as a tag. She fell asleep contemplating if she was going to follow you. It seemed silly that she was nervous to press a button.
She dreamt of you that night. Had a dream that the two of you played D1 soccer in college together and were the 'it' couple of school (not like that is really a thing in college but a girl can dream). When she woke up in the morning she looked at her phone to see what time it was. She shot up when she saw the notification that you had followed her. She couldn't believe a single notification had her feeling like a little school girl but there she was.
When you woke up the next morning, you saw that Caitlin had requested to follow you back.
From there - she was the one to message you first, talking about how amazing you had played and how impressed she was. You were hardcore flattered. The two of you didn't talk much after but you both followed each other in your respective sports. You learned that Caitlin dropped soccer for basketball which you thought was a shame - she could have easily gone D1. But watching her on the court was something else. Her IQ on the court was something you had never seen before.
It was during your senior year of high school that the two of you started going to watch each other play. At least when you both had the time, which wasn't super frequent. It was merely a taste of what the two of you were about to experience in college. Both of you had signed to become Hawkeyees. Caitlin for basketball and you for soccer.
It was your freshman year of college that the two of you started hanging out. You had become pretty close friends that always acted like more. Your friendship took a turn one night when you were taking care of a very sick Caitlin.
"I don't want soup," she pouts and turns away from the spoonful of soup you are trying to feed her.
"Caitlin you need to eat," you say as you grab her shoulder to hold her down from rolling over. She tries to fight you but is extremely weak due to the flu overtaking her body. She whines when she can't turn away from you and lays there in defeat. She looks like she is on the verge of tears.
"Hey, hey," you say as you rub her arm. "Shhh it's okay love." Your hand comes up to her face and caresses it. She looks up at you with such tired eyes. "I know you don't want to but you haven't eaten in days and it's scaring me."
Her eyes stare into yours as she takes your hand holding the spoon and guides it to her mouth. She takes a little bite that looks painful to swallow but she does. You kiss her forehead and continue to feed her the broth.
Later that night you fell asleep next to her bed, you took the floor to not get sick yourself. Caitlin woke up and saw you sleeping on the floor. She turned to face you and looked down, she loved watching you sleep. You always looked so peaceful which is so different than watching you on the field. She reached down and brushed a piece of hair from your face and whispered 'I love you'. Little did she know that her touch had stirred you awake and you heard her little confession.
It was shortly after Caitlin got better that you two started dating. You went public on your three-month anniversary, which was also when you signed for the USWNT. It had been a dream of yours since you were a little girl.
You stopped playing for Iowa once you joined the women’s team but that didn’t stop you from going to support your girl for her games whenever you could. Caitlin did the same whenever you had games close by and the two of you sort of became known supporters at each other's games. It was kind of cute how people would get excited to see Caitlin coming to your games and vice versa. Someone had even started an amateur fan account for the two of you, nothing ever came from it but it would pop up on your feed every now and again. It was mostly posts of you wearing Caitlin's jerseys at her games and Caitlin wearing your jerseys to support your games.
There was one game you went to support Caitlin and had her fans come up and ask for pictures with you. It was cute how her fans were so supportive of the two of you. But with support, also comes hate.
As the years go on, your relationship with Caitlin grows. By the time the two of you are entering your senior year of college, you have pretty much been through it all. The ups and downs have been very high and very low but you wouldn't have changed any of it. It was because of those times that you know as you begin your careers, you and Caitlin will make it.
It is during your last year that you get drafted as the first pick to the Chicago Red Stars. Caitlin and your family are there for the draft and are over the moon for you to be playing closer to home. When your name is announced - you hug your family first then make your way to Caitlin. She engulfs you in a hug and kisses the top of your head. You look up and give her a little kiss before heading up to shake the announcer's hand and head off to a few interviews.
Being drafted before the school year ended meant that you would have to finish your senior year online. It wasn't your favorite but you were determined to get your degree, even though everyone was saying you no longer needed it. It was something you felt like you needed to accomplish.
This also meant that you would be moving to Chicago to start training. At no point was there ever any tension in your relationship with Catilin when it came to moving. The two of you had a conversation early on about what your life goals were which included playing pro for your respective sports. The two of you talked through what that would look like and how you would prioritize one another while pursuing each of your dreams. The way you two were on the same page only solidified your relationship even more.
As Caitlin and the Hawkeyes were heading into March Madness - you weren't able to make it to the Sweet Sixteen or the Elite Eight. That didn't stop you from watching your girl dominate on the court - breaking records and doing what she does best (shooting logo threes).
You were bummed that you couldn't be there when she broke the NCAA scoring record but one of your teammates got a video of you watching your girlfriend make history and posted it. It gained a lot of traction and was the first time they featured your relationship on any sports network.
When you found out Caitlin was heading back to the final four - you made it a priority to head to Clevland to watch. You were able to pull some strings and get courtside seats to watch your girl front row. You watched them play UConn and were stressed the entire game. This was some of the best defense you have seen a team put up against Cait. They came to fight.
Throughout the game you had people come up to you and ask for autographs and photos. It was neat to see it was a variety of both Caitlin's fans who knew you as her girlfriend and also your fans who have watched you since you started with the USNWT.
When the Hawkeyes pulled through and took the win - everyone flooded the court, making it almost impossible to find Caitlin. It was actually a handful of people in the crowd who helped you locate her. When you saw her, you ran straight up to her and wrapped your legs and arms around her. You knew what this game stood for - it was redemption from the previous year.
"THAT WAS AMAZING BABE!" You yelled right in her ear.
She laughs and spins you around, "I am so glad you were able to make it." She inhales you and is reminded of how much she misses you. "Do you have to leave?" She asks, only half-heartedly wanting the answer.
"Well knowing you were going to win this game and Coach not needing me back until Monday, I am staying to the final," you say hoping down from your girl but keeping your arms around her neck.
Caitlin brings you back into her and just holds you. As thankful as she is that her team just won, she is even more grateful that she gets to spend some time with you. Cait and the team only had a light practice the day in between games. The rest of the day was to be used as a rest day with the exception of a team dinner. You spent the day in Caitlin’s hotel room. Most of the time the two of you spent catching up on life and how each of you has been doing. She talked about her feelings about how she contemplated staying at Iowa for a fifth year versus going to the WNBA draft. The two of you had talked a little over the phone about it but there was something about having you there that really opened her up about all the thoughts she truly had. You sat there and listened to her talk - it was one of your favorite things to do. You could sit with her forever and be content.
She loved talking to you because you never pushed her in one direction or another, but would rather genuinely listen to her. And when she would pause to gather her thoughts, you would ask her questions to help her figure out what she wants to do and not what the media expects of her. You knew the last thing that she needed was someone else telling her what she should and shouldn't be doing.
When it was your turn to unpack - you talked about the shift from playing on the women's national team to a city team. It was a shift but one that was really nice. It felt like you were finally able to settle down somewhere and you were excited for her to feel the same and hopefully a little closer to yourself than she was at now. You missed being around her.
You continued to talk about how her team has been super welcoming and that you all instantly fit into the team. That was something Caitlin knew you were worried about signing with the Chicago Red Stars. She hasn't been out to one of your games yet but is hoping to before she goes into training.
That night you joined Caitlin at the team dinner. All the girls were happy to see you. It was great getting to spend some time with everyone - with Cait being on the team, you had become really close to some of her friends. Kate and Gabby were especially happy to see you.
You went to watch the championship game the next day - sitting right behind the team's bench. You watched your girl put up 18 points in the first quarter - breaking another record in her last collegiate game.
As the game progressed you saw how difficult it was for the Hawkeyes to put up points against the best defensive team in the league. But they put up a fight.
In the final quarter, you could see the hope in the team's eyes slip away as the momentum SC was gaining kept going. When there were only a few minutes left, you saw the shift in Caitlin's demeanor and knew that she was beginning to accept defeat.
At the one-minute mark, Coach Bluder pulled her starting seniors and allowed some of the other girls take the court. As Caitlin was walking off, she alongside Kate and Gabby went down the line of coaches and gave them each a hug. When she sat down on the bench, you couldn't see her face but knew she was struggling to keep it together. If there was anyone else in this stadium that knew how much she wanted this win, it was you.
It didn't come as a surprise when Caitlin sat right in front of you. You leaned down to her and placed your hand on her arm. No words needed, just a sign to show her that you were there. Her hand comes up and rests on yours, giving a little squeeze.
She spent that night in your arms. You tried to get her out of her head but weren't doing a great job of it. All Caitlin really wanted was to be held by you and that is exactly what you did.
You flew back to Chicago that Monday - feeling sad you were leaving Caitlin but know you left her in good hands with Kate and Gabby. Before leaving - Caitlin booked a flight to come out to watch you play in Chicago. You thought it would be a good distraction as well as nice to have her back in the stands.
When it was game day, you took the field for warm-ups, occasionally looking towards the stands to see where your girlfriend was watching from. It wasn't an easy task but you looked in all the typical places she would watch from when you were playing for the USWNT. When you couldn't find her in the crowd, you got worried that she wasn't able to make it. When you got back to the bench, you did a quick scan when one of the other girls came up to you and pointed to one of the boxes. Looking over - you saw Caitlin in the middle box talking with your team manager.
A smile makes its way to your face as you see them talking and laughing. Your team manager was kind of a hard-ass which would have you worried if it was anyone other than Caitlin. But knowing your girl, she could start a conversation with anyone.
Throughout the game, you would glance up to the box. You were met with the sight of either Caitlin watching intently or her talking with whoever else was there. You noticed one of the times she was talking to one of your teammate's wives. It was such a comfort to have her there.
At the end of the game, your team pulled through and took the dub against the Kansas City Current. As the team was celebrating you felt someone come up from behind you and spin you around. Knowing immediately who it was, when you were put down - you turned and jumped into Cailtin's arms.
"Proud of you babe," she says as she embraces you yet again.
"I am glad you were able to come," you say and grab her hand to introduce her to a few of your teammates.
The next day you see an article out about Caitlin coming to your game. It wasn't the first but it was the first that you saw circulate social media to this extent. It caught like wildfire and the next thing to know your following on IG went from 20k to 50k.
You didn't think much of it considering you don't follow the media really at all but thought it was cute and shot it over to Caitlin. She thought it was funny and criticized the photo they chose of the two of you.
The next thing you know, you are in New York getting ready for the WNBA draft. You are sharing a room with Caitlin and just sit in awe as your girl is getting dressed. She is the first to sport Prada for the WNBA and she is looking amazing.
Once she is dressed, the two of you head down. There are a few photos snapped of Caitlin on the way down, you follow closely behind her, trying to not get in the frame. That proves hard to do as she refuses to let go of your hand. At one point she looks back and gives your hand a little kiss before heading into the elevator to head down to the orange carpet.
The night went by in a blur. Caitlin is the first pick and is headed to the Indiana Fever. It was what both of you were prepared for and have honestly started planning for as well. You two started talking about how it would be so nice to only be an hour's plane ride away from each other (a 3-hour drive if needed).
Her crew celebrates by going out for some drinks and food. It was a fun night out with the girls not only celebrating Caitlin but also Kate who was drafted into the Aces. The two of you end the night back in the hotel.
The next morning, you started to get notifications and messages about the media calling you and Caitlin the new 'Power Couple' of the sports world. Before you could open anything on your phone, Caitlin was showing you hers. You looked at the post that Ovvertimewbb posted. It was the photo of Caitlin kissing your hand right before heading into the elevator with a caption on how you two are the couple to watch in and out of the game.
"So they are calling us the couple to watch," you say as you hand the phone back to Cait.
"Looks like it," she says with a laugh. "I have no idea what that means."
"Honestly, neither do I but we will find out," you say as you lean over to give her a kiss.
Throughout both of your rookie seasons, the media watches you both closely. You because you have been on fire, consistently playing record-breaking games and carrying your team to victory, and Caitlin because she is changing the game.
Now that the two of you are closer, going to support each other has become much easier. Once Caitlin started in Indiana, she was at almost every one of your games - almost always supporting you from your manager's booth. You always joke with her that your manager loves her more than they do you. Every now and again she would be standing fieldside, out of the way of course. The media tore up any time she was standing on the field or seen talking with your manager. It would always be something about how Caitlin is such a great girlfriend coming out to support you. Or it would be how your GM has found a new person to watch their team with, having a picture attached with your GM and Caitlin laughing about something.
The posts and articles went both ways. You went to support Caitlin whenever you could which then put you in the spotlight. It was unexpected to both of you how much the media ate up your support for each other.
It was when you were watching an interview that Caitlin was in that it began to click.
"Caitlin - you are projected to be rookie of the year, how do you feel about that?" The interviewer asks.
"I think it's pretty awesome," she responds with a smile. "Just like the work I have put in during my college career to get here, I have put in the work this season to be up for rookie of the year."
"Well, it is quite impressive, if I must say," the interviewer compliments your girlfriend. "But what is also impressive is that your girlfriend is also up for rookie of the year."
Caitlin just smiles and nods. She could say a lot (she will rarely brag about herself but when it came to you, she could talk up a storm) but just sits and nods. To everyone watching - it was a proud girlfriend moment.
"Seeing you go and support each other at games, getting the posts of your post-game meals with one another, and all the talk about how each of your teammates has become great friends with you and her, you have become the ultimate power couple in the sports world." Caitlin doesn't blush easily but she’s blushing now. "How has becoming this power couple affected your relationship?"
"Well it is kind of funny - neither Y/n nor I have really seen much of what has been going on in the media with any of it," Caitlin says.
It was true - the two of you tried your best to stay out of looking into the media like that. You knew it wouldn't affect your relationship in the slightest but never really cared for what other people said about the two of you. Outside of supporting each other during games the two of you led a pretty private relationship.
"Well let me show you a slim snippet of what the fans are saying," the interviewer says as they start flashing photos of you on the screen. "There are endless fan edits of the two of you while you are watching each other games. What really got me was finding a fan account that has been following the two of you since your college years."
Pictures of the two of you from their account started flying across the screen. Photos going back in time - it was a neat way to reminisce on the past and how far you have come.
At the end of the slideshow is a picture from when you played in your final home game for your high school - senior night. It was a picture of you and two other girls heading to the captain's meeting in the middle of the field. In the photo, it is you and your co-captains looking down but if you looked over to the crowd - there is Caitlin, front row with some of her friends there to watch you play.
Caitlin remembers the moment as if it was yesterday. She debated going to that game for weeks before it happened. She didn't tell you she was coming to your senior night but brought you flowers and she gave them to you afterward. That was the night that you had Caitlin falling even harder than before - getting so excited when you saw her. Causing her heart to leap out of its chest when you dropped all of your stuff to pick her up and spin he around. Her stomach filled with butterflies and her cheeks turned a deep pink - the first time you made her blush.
"Yep, that's me," she says with a laugh, turning even more red than before. "You could say we were fans of each other long before we started dating.'
"Well, that is the cutest thing!" The interviewer says with such excitement. "We are all rooting for the two of you and can't wait to watch you both as you progress in your careers."
Later that night, you call Cait. She picks up the phone immediately.
"I know, I know," she says, already knowing what you are going to say.
"You are too cute when you blush," you say with a little laugh.
"Ugh stop babe," she says laughing as well. "Did you hear when they called us the ultimate power couple?"
"I did," you say full-on laughing now. "It is crazy to see how many people are invested in our relationship."
You hear her hum in agreement, but she doesn't say anything.
"Hey babe, is everything okay?" You ask, worried that this is all starting to get to her. You know Caitlin doesn't follow the media like that but you wouldn't blame her if she fell down the rabbit hole after that interview. I mean, you did.
It wasn't intentional but after you watch the interview, curiosity got the best of you and you started looking at some accounts. Most of it was sweet - pictures and comments of how the world is cheering you on but with being in the spotlight more, there were also more people who used the platform to tear you down. It really didn't affect either of you - at least when people talked about yourselves. But you knew when people start talking bad about you on her posts, she gets caught up in her head about how hateful the world can be.
It takes her a minute but after what feels like a lifetime, she responds.
"You are the most incredible woman I have ever had the privilege of knowing," she starts, causing your heart to swell. She begins to stumble on her words. "I - just thank you." She says. "Thank you for being so amazing not only to me but to the world. I can't wait until you begin your off-season and move here with me so we can finally be together. Then when you go back, and I am off, I will come and live with you and everything will be right in the world and we will get a dog and start planning our wedding and both be living out our dreams."
She pauses and you take a sharp inhale. The two of you haven't really talked about marriage - if you were being honest, you had no idea that was even on Caitlin's radar. It was on yours but you never wanted to rush her.
"What was that last part?" You ask slowly.
"Us living out our dreams?" She asks, knowing it is not what you are talking about.
"No right before that..." you say as it feels like time has stopped. The only other time you have felt this with her is the first game you played against her. She had been one of the only other players who could keep up to you and you let her know that after. Whispering the compliment in her ear and watching her react to your touch had stopped time for you.
"Start planning our wedding...?" Caitlin says extremely slowly. You are hooked on every single word she says as she repeats that.
"Caitlin Clark, are you asking me to marry you?" You say jokingly but also dripping with genuine interest.
"You are just going to have to wait to find out," she says and you can hear the smirk that has grown on her face.
Little did you know that Caitlin already had the ring. She knew she was going to marry you after you picked her up and spun her around on your senior night. It only solidified when the two of you started dating in college and were there to support one another during your sporting events but also just with life in general. Having you by her side wasn't an option. You pushed her to be better than she could have ever imagined. You brought her out of her head when no one else could. You let her be herself unapologetically and she couldn't imagine a more perfect person.
"Well just know, if you get down on one knee at either of our award ceremonies, I will say no." You say, trying to play it cool when your heart is beating faster than it does on the field.
Caitlin laughs and you join in, longing for the days when you can have these conversations face to face.
AN: I hope this does the request justice. Please let me know what you think! And as always, thank you for the love and support 🤍

pairing: paige bueckers x reader
plot: you and paige are best friends, but you both want something more
note: i’m sorry if this is bad, i tried my best i hope you like it!! ☺️
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
paige was nervous for her game the next day. she wasn’t worried about her ability to play. in a way, she hoped your guy’s team lost. she’d promised her teammates that if they won the game she’d finally confess her feelings to you, her fellow teammate and best friend.
you and your teammates were currently practicing 1v1 in preparation for tomorrow’s game. paige was with kk and you were practicing with ice, a difficult opponent for you due to your height. despite this, you were on fire with your blocking and shooting; so much so that even geno commended you for your efforts in practice. after what felt like hours, he finally dismissed the team.
“get some good rest for tomorrow, it shouldn’t be too tough but i still need you guys playing your very best!” he told you all. you nodded your head with a grin on your face, he had become almost like a father figure to you.
you walked back to the locker rooms with paige, arms intertwined to have a quick shower and retrieve your bag. “you were amazing out there today, y/n! i mean obviously i know you’re good like that but wow.” you smiled at paige’s kind words. she was always to encouraging and it reminded you to never stop trying. it was nice to have a best friend like that.
you showered and brushed your hair out and grabbed your stuff so you could hurry back to your dorm, all you wanted to do was snuggle up with a blanket (and possibly paige) and watch a movie. “you ready, pretty?” paige asked you. you yawned in response and started towards the locker room exit, when kk, ice, and azzi stopped the two of you.
“hey you two! we’re about to go out for some drinks tonight, we were wondering if yall wanted to join?”
“thanks but no thanks,” paige replied. “i gotta get this girl home. she’s beat.”
you were too tired to hear the girls’ reply as you and paige made the walk together back to your shared apartment. when you finally got there, she opened the door with her set of keys and you collapsed onto the couch. paige giggled at your adorable antics and her face felt warmer than usual. she watched as you rolled around in different positions on the couch in a desperate attempt to get comfortable. you fidgeted for about a minute until a bright idea popped into your head:
“paigeeee?” you called her name in the sweetest voice u could muster. she rolled her eyes and walked up to where you were laying on the couch.
“you need something?”
“yeah. you. come lay with me? pleaseeee?” you stuck your bottom lip out slightly and gave her the biggest puppy dog eyes you could. she laughed out loud and pushed you up. “okay, okay! make some room for me then.”
she sat down next to you on the couch and expected you to just lay your head on her shoulder or something. that was until you flipped yourself horizontally once again and laid your head in her lap. paige froze. she was used to giving and receiving physical affection from you, as you were her best friend. lately, however, you’d been a bit more touchy-feely. not that she’d minded anyways, in fact she loved it but it proved harder for her to hide how pink her cheeks got whenever she looked at you, and how hard the butterflies in her stomach fluttered when she saw your face. this was mainly why she let her teammates make the bet anyways, she couldn’t contain her feelings anymore.
you were her every thought. her favorite conversation topic. her favorite person. you absorbed her. paige couldn’t contain herself. she couldn’t stand the idea of you laying in her lap so innocently and sweetly without knowing how she felt. and she was NOT ready to confess right this minute. paige cleared her throat, “hi i mean hey uh im going to make us some dinner if ur uh cool about that? i mean, with that. yeah.” she lightly pushed your head off her lap and stood up, almost robotically and stalked into the kitchen.
‘what was that about?’ you wondered, ‘well. only one way to find out!’ you stood up and followed paige’s footsteps into the kitchen.
“paige. what’s wrong with you?”
“what? nothing bro. get off my back”
“uh ok so you’re actually NOT going to talk to me like that! what’s going on? you’re acting so off. i mean, we both know you can’t cook to save your life.” you were put off by her cold attitude towards you, now starting to get upset yourself. the wheels turned in your head as you wondered what could be up with her. had you made her uncomfortable by laying in her lap? was that too far? had she not liked it but was too nice to tell you?
“paige,” you started, “i’m really sorry if i made you uncomfortable. i won’t touch you anymore, i promise.” you tried to assure your best friend that you never wanted to do anything to make her feel weird.
“what?! oh my god. no pretty girl, it’s not that. it’s…” paige sighed to herself. ‘now or never i guess’ she thought. “it’s the fact that whenever you touch me, my skin feels like it’s just been electrocuted or something. everytime you look at me my face feels hot. but everytime you look at me i have to remind myself that you’re just my best friend. i know we’re more than that. don’t you know we’re more than that?” she questioned, tears already welling in her eyes.
you busted out into laughter. paige looked at you shocked. “damn y/n i wasn’t expecting you to feel the same way, but i wasn’t expecting you to be mean about it either.”
“noooooo it’s not that paigey. it’s just. i was thinking the exact same thing. i mean honestly the whole team and i made a bet that if we won i’d have to confess that i like you.” you confessed sheepishly as you rubbed your hand comfortingly on her arm.
paige stopped crying instantly and looked at you perplexed. “wait. they told ME if we won i’d have to confess that I like YOU.” you both busted out into a fit of giggles. after you eventually calmed down from laughing, you stepped forward and wrapped your arms around paige’s neck in a tight hug.
“i’m so happy i finally get to have you,” you spoke, “i’m so, so happy. in a way, i’m kind of grateful for our team for helping since we were too stupid to figure it out ourselves.” paige kissed your forehead and hummed.
“you’re right, i’m so happy too lovebug!”
“lovebug?” you looked up at her quizzically.
“it’s a cute little name for my cute little girlfriend!!”
“was that your way of asking me to be your girlfriend?”
“yes. just go with it and say yes.” that was one thing about paige. she always got what she wanted, and always got what she sought after. but you were grateful she wanted you. paige picked up her phone and texted your team groupchat.

hi can i request chigiri rin nagi bachira and isagi getting jealous of the reader’s cat, who keeps hogging her attention? if that’s too much just chigiri is fine 🥰 (i love your writing sm)
Tumblr media
Aww thank you so much!! <3 I ended up being on a writing kick when I was doing this and instead of doing my genetics work I did all of them, I hope you enjoy anon!!
Tumblr media
Chigiri
-> As I’ve said before and I will say again and again until I die, THIS MAN IS SIDE EYE CENTRAL, he’s not good at saying what he feels so instead he tries to mask it but it always shows up on his face
-> Will side eye that cat until until it either moves or he gets so pissed off that he finally tries to tell you but your way to enamored with the cat so he’ll just catch you off guard by like kissing you or smth
-> Hates that cat from now on, like why is it all over you?? As your boyfriend, that's his Job, I mean not like he’d tell you that.
-> when your not looking tries to shoo the cat away, but to no avail, he’ll just again side eye that thing until either you or your cat gets the hint
Rin
-> Another one who will side eye that cat
-> he was only trying to slightly snuggle with you while watching a movie and he was interrupted by this “lukewarm feline” (as he calls it). He’s pissed and if you look over at him he looks like he mighty kill your cat, so make sure you’re watching over it later
-> Also won’t stop side eyeing it until it moves, or you move it.
-> And once he gets you to cuddle him he won’t hesitate to make sure it stays away, if he can even get that far, since it seems you like this cat more than you like him
-> But is that cat gonna hold you once you scream at a random murderer appearing on your screen? I think the hell not! (Will use the movie he put on as an excuse to hold you and get the cat away from you)
Nagi
-> Was probably already laying on you when the cat came over
-> when he was moved out of his spot because of your cat he was a little pissed off, he had this frown on his face and it was the most expression you had seen out of him in a while
-> but when you tried to ask, he was a little too into the mobile game he was playing and knowing him it might have been too much of a “hassle” to actually tell you fully what had happened. So you did the next best thing you could think of
-> Calling Reo. It didn’t take long for him to answer knowing that it was most likely something about Nagi and with a couple words he had already figured it out. Nagi was wayyyy to whipped for your attention and so that was all there was, and now he will frown at your cat whenever it comes near
-> at this point you may have to grow an extra hand, since one is used for playing with your cat of a boyfriends hair, while the other is used for playing with your actual cats fur
Bachira
-> Staring contest with the cat to get it to move
-> will probably accidentally scare your cat off, because he tries to cuddle your cat and you at the same time.. and lets just say it doesn’t work all that well
-> Will get pouty though if you pay more attention to your cat them him, but one of the only ones on the list that has no issues shooing the cat away, and if you scold him for it he just pretends that he didn’t hear you and containers trying to cuddle with you
-> Eventually by the end of night quite possibly chased the cat like 3 times trying to cuddle with it, while also cuddling with you
-> Your poor cat might have to go to therapy after everytime that Bachira visits
Isagi
-> FINALLY ONE THAT WILL ACTUALLY SAY SOMETHING
-> I mean after he tries to take care of it himself, but if he can’t get any attention from you he’ll actually speak up and ask for some!! (One of the fine moments he will be a green flag)
-> Will try to slightly push your cat away when he’s cuddling with you, since it’s almost like a dad, trying to place himself/herself right in between the two of you when you were just sitting on the couch
-> Groans many times at even the mention of your cat, and we he sees it’s smug little face when it’s getting all your attention and all your affection
-> You will have a pretty good laugh while he pulls you back into his arms, but as soon as your there he goes back to normal
-> Does try to not get jealous of a cat, he finally realizes how silly it sounds, and somewhere in there does lead him to thinking about the future, and how he can’t be jealous of y’all’s little ones!

!emo jealous bestfriend txt who’d stare down at you talking to one of your guy friends with their pierced tongue poking at the inside of the cheek jealously being the only emotion they knew at the moment; “what did he want? why was he talking to you?” he charged at you gripping onto your arm stopping you from walking away from him
you’d whimper quietly secretly liking his aggressive behavior; “chad just wanted to hangout this weekend at my place he said there’s this new video game he wants to try with m-me” you shudder looking up at the angry emo boy in front of you
“bullshit i can tell by how he was eye fucking you, he’s definitely only interested in fucking you” your bestfriend bluntly splats with venom on his tongue not really paying attention to how mean that sounded to you
“you really think that? you think no one would ever be interested beyond just fucking me?” you felt your voice tremble as you sniffle back tears
your bestfriends eyes soften as panic rushes through their veins, “what no don’t cry im just saying chad is just using you-“ “so you think i’m all used up too!?” you were struggling to let out a sentence as you cried harder only making the emo boy panic more
“baby please open the door i promise i didn’t mean to hurt your feelings like that i just-“ your bestfriend pounds at your door begging for you to open up as you sob out a weak ‘no! go away you’re so mean to me!’
but you being you; you never liked making your bestfriend chase after you or dwell on his mistakes so you let him in your room after his countless apologies of course
“do i really have to cancel on chad? i swear its just gonna be a friend date nothing more” you’d frown as your cries finally died down but only because your bestfriend agreed to play with your hair as you laid on their lap
your bestfriend rolled his eyes with a sigh trying to snatch your phone away from your hands as your eyes widen at the sudden movement; “w-what are you doing?” you didn’t let your phone go
this angered your bestfriend more; causing him to grip on your wrists as an attempt to get your phone from you. “im gonna tell chad to fuck off since you’re too much of a pussy to say no to somebody” he dryly laugh at you “if you care about your wrists not bruising i suggest you let go” the emo boy warns you gripping onto you tighter
you let out a yelp in pain as you quickly let go; hovering on his broad shoulder watching him text chad a nasty text message reading ‘next time you interact with y/n your family is going to wake up to your skull and bones as a wreath decoration hanging from your front door’ and you felt goosebumps at that threat
“you’re not gonna do that to my family one day right?” you were worried slowly backing away from your bestfriend. “not unless you’re a good girl for me and stay away from all of your guy friends but you can do that right?” he pulled you closer grinning at your scared state
“all my guy friends?” you’d ask
“every single one of them” your bestfriend assured you and you gulped

I added two new chapters to My Daddy Likes Boys a fic about Eddie Kaspbrak's son trying to get him together with his teacher, Mr. Tozier.
Read on ao3 or below!
Chapter 1: Two daddies?? Cool!
My daddy likes boys. I don't know why that's such a big deal. I'm not a dummy. I understand that they don't mean he likes boys just as friends like me and Hank from my class. Otherwise, mommy and daddy wouldn't have broked up. I get it. It's about in love. Like Aladdin and Jasmine. They aren't both boys, but that's okay. I'm sure there are other examples of boys I'm just not thinking of.
Mommy already sees other boys. Daddy comes to watch me when she goes on her "dates" and we watch Bluey on TV or play hungry hungry hippos. Daddy is great at games, but I'm better because I always win. Still, daddy deserves to play games with someone he can beat. Someone he can go on "dates" with. Maybe on a magic carpet. Daddy likes cars, and that's a very cool and special kinda car. I wanna ride on one. Maybe if daddy's boyfriend has a magic carpet I can ride in the backseat and fly up high. That would be cool. That would be super cool.
I started kindergarten in the Fall. I'm in Mr. Tozier's class. He wears funny, colorful shirts and does voices that make me laugh a lot. When we learned about animals he made all the sounds. My favorite was when he made the goose sound. Mr. Tozier is the coolest.
And a boy.
And daddy likes boys.
Then I had an idea. My daddy and Mr. Tozier could be in love! That's a great perfect idea. I just needed to find a way to get daddy and Mr. Tozier to talk. When they talked they would obviously instantly fall in love because they are both awesome and fun and they both love me. It would be the greatest thing to have two daddies!!
I started small. Daddy tells me every day that I'm brave and I decided to prove it. I made sure Mr. Tozier was close and I climbed up higher in the jungle gym than I had ever climbed. The other kids watched and some waved and giggled. By the time Mr. Tozier noticed how high I climbed and started running towards me, it was too late. I bent my knees like a frog. Mr. Tozier saying ribbit ribbit popping into my head as I hopped off the roof (where I definitely wasn't supposed to be) and fell hard onto the ground.
Plop
I yelled and yelled and yelled some more. How was I supposed to know it would hurt THAT much. Mr. Tozier reached me quickly with his kind blue eyes twisted up in worry. "Frankie!" He yelped. "How'd you even get up there?" He was concerned, but I couldn't help but notice he also sounded impressed. This was going perfectly according to plan even though my arm hurt a whole lot.
Mr. Tozier carried me to the nurse's office. "I'm gonna call your parents, okay? Just sit tight buddy." I made a froggy sound and his worry melted away just long enough to do an, admittedly much better, froggy sound.
He rushed out the door. Oh no. "Call my daddy!" I shouted after him, hoping it was loud enough. My voice was usually louder, but my arm hurt too much! I waited to let my tears fall down my cheeks for after Mr. Tozier left. He probably thought I was very brave. Mr. Tozier and daddy will talk about how brave I am all day long until they fall in love.
Daddy didn't come. Mr. Tozier must not have heard me. When I saw mommy come through the door with her arms stretched out like she was ready to clean my dirty cheek with her spit, I cringed a bit and then started crying. This time it wasn't from the pain. Well, it wasn't just from the pain. This was going to be harder than I thought.
Chapter 2: Frankie's Big Break
had a lot of time to plan my next move while I was at the doctor then at home. My arm was broken and got put in a huge cast. It's so hard and heavy. I drummed on the wall with it when mommy wasn't looking, she always told me to stop even though it made the best sound.
That made me think of my next idea. I couldn't keep getting hurt and going right to the hospital. I'd be off too much school and all my bones would be in casts until I couldn't move. I can't make Mr. Tozier and my daddy fall in love like that! I need at least one limb free!
When I got back to school, all the kids wanted to talk to me and sign my cast. I noted that I'd let Hank sign it first, after I talked to Mr. Tozier. Unless Mr. Tozier wanted to sign it first. Then he could. Sorry Hank.
Mr. Tozier sat at a big desk with papers all over the top. I could just see over it. He looked down at me, looking over his big thick glasses. He must have a really hard time seeing with glasses that big. My eyes are perfect, everyone says so, but daddy probably doesn't care about perfect eyes. I tried to focus.
“Frankie?” Mr. Tozier said. “What is it?”
“Next time I get in trouble, can you call my daddy instead of my mommy?” I said. I thought if I was as obvious as possible that he would definitely get it right next time.
Mr. Tozier's brow furrowed. “Well, you weren't in trouble, Frankie, but why do you want me to call your daddy? Is something going on at home?”
I really thought about it. No, not really. Home has been kinda boring. Daddy always looks sad when I'm with him, but mommy always has boys around all the time. I just want my daddy to be happy too. Not with lots of boys though, just Mr. Tozier. I didn't like getting used to lots and lots of new boys because some of them smell funny and have weird mustaches.
“Frankie?” Mr. Tozier asked. Oops, I'd been thinking too much.
“No.” I said quickly and walked away. I didn't even remember to ask him to sign my cast. I guess Hank could do it first after all.
After all the kids got done signing my cast with lots of cool things, Hank drew a dinosaur, I went to work. I knew daddy would definitely come if I was in danger, but it didn't work the first time. I decided I had to do something different. I had to get in trouble.
It happened at recess. Mr. Tozier was watching everybody, but I wanted to make sure he was watching me. I took a big breath in and let out a loud scream. Mr. Tozier looked up but so did everybody else. I'd have to explain why I was doing it to all my lots of friends later. They'd understand. With all my might, I pushed over the big wood play kitchen and all the kids playing house ran away. The play plates hit the ground over and over one at a time. It sounded like rain.
Mr. Tozier rushed over. Yay! “Is everyone okay?” The other kids nodded. When he looked at me, he didn't look mad. He looked worried. That made me worried too.
He took me to the place I go to when I get off my bus and had me sit in the big plush chair. Once he was in the other room, I got up and pressed my ear to the door. He was talking to somebody. I think on the phone.
“I think something might be going on at home.” Mr Tozier said. I sighed. Not really. Just call my daddy. Say I'm in big trouble. “Oh, a divorce? That's gotta be tough on him.” It wasn't tough at all! What was tough was getting my daddy and Mr. Tozier in one room. Ugh!
Chapter 3: Why Does Everybody Ask if I'm Okay??
How was I supposed to know they'd just make me talk to some lady? That is not what I wanted at all.
“Frankie,” She said gently like she was talking to a puppy. I'm not a puppy. “Can you please tell me how things have been at home?”
“Why does everybody keep asking me that!” I knew it wasn't polite to shout, but I was getting so frustrated! “Sorry, things are just fine. I'm happy.”
Even though I told her I'm happy she still looked sad. What was going on? “Are you happy when you're with your mommy?”
I felt a big frown on my face. “Yeah, I guess!” I folded my arms. Things were fine. Mommy was just kind of boring sometimes. She just wanted me to dress up nice and be polite. I was so sick of always being so polite.
“What about your daddy?” She asked.
I smiled. “Well, daddy is the best. We play games and watch TV but he's lonely and needs a boyfriend like my mommy has.”
The lady's eyebrows raised up like they were gonna bump into her hair. “A boyfriend?” She asked. “Maybe you mean a girlfriend.”
I rolled my eyes. “No! My daddy likes boys!’’
Talking to that lady was so pointless. She didn't even help me with how to get Mr. Tozier and my daddy together. I hoped I never had to see that lady ever again.
My mommy drove me home and fussed with my hair when she buckled me in. “What did you say to the nice lady?” She asked me.
“I told her daddy likes boys.” I explained, getting a little tired of always having to explain myself.
Mommy's eyebrows did the same thing as the lady. It's a little silly for her to be surprised. I knew she knew that already. She didn't say much else. She just got in the front seat and drove us home.
When Daddy came to pick me up the next day, I was so excited. It was the weekend and Daddy always planned a fun activity. I wanted to see the new Sonic movie and get lots of popcorn.
It was taking mommy and daddy a really long time to come get me in my room, so I hopped off my bed and sat on the top of the stairs looking down at them through the bars. They looked upset. They had angry eyebrows and folded up arms.
“You told him about your little perversion?” Mommy said. I didn't know what that meant, but what did daddy tell me about? Maybe about the big black cats at the zoo.
Daddy held up his hands. “No, I didn't tell him anything about that. I don't know how he found out.” Maybe not about the big cats after all.
“Well, tell him you don't. Tell him you like women like you're supposed to.” I opened my eyes really wide. Was this about daddy liking boys? What's the big deal! Mommy likes boys too!
“Daddy can like boys if he wants to!” I ran down the stairs to stand up tall next to daddy.
They both looked down at me with their mouths hanging open. Close your mouths, gosh! “It's not normal.” Mommy said in a calm voice. I was so sick of people talking to me like a puppy or a baby or something.
I held out my hand. “Daddy, I wanna go.” I didn't feel like talking about this. I had important things to do.
Daddy looked down at me, surprised. Mommy looked mad. They looked at each other for a few seconds before daddy grabbed my hand and we started walking out. I smiled wide.
“Wait!” Mommy called after us, but we didn't stop or look back.
We were gonna have a wonderful, awesome time watching Sonic and eating popcorn and then after that I would think about my next plan. Daddy and Mr. Tozier were gonna be happy if it was the last thing I did!

Subject: Cheerleading (what else?)
Tumblr media
Hey Em, it's your very-best-friend-in-the-world, but I guess you knew that when you saw the "from" line, right? Duh, my blond is showing again. Anyway, how are you holding up in godawful Cleveland... I still CANNOT believe that your parents could just up and move from beautiful SoCal to the midwest for gods sake... and break up the dynamic duo of Smithfield High cheereleading... but anyway, I still miss you every day.
You are probably wondering why I am sending you this big-assed email instead of just calling you or IMing. Well, I have to tell you something very important, and it is waaay too complicated for instant messaging, and waaay too mbarrassing to talk about on the phone. Really.
WARNING: DO NOT PRINT THIS OUT, AND DO NOT LET ANYONE SEE YOUR COMPUTER SCREEN WHILE YOU ARE READING IT. Especially that bratty little brother of yours. I would just like DIE if any of this got out. In fact the only reason I am sending this to you is that I have to get this off my chest, and you are the only person in the world I trust enough to share this with.
Why the mystery? Well, it started a few days ago. You know it's the end of the school year, which means it's time for tryouts for next year's cheerleading squad, right? BTW, how is cheering in Ohio? Did you freeze your cute little tushy off at some of those November football games? Anyway, tryouts should have been a slam-dunk for me, right? I mean, we are talking about Miss Cheerleader right... who else has a mother who decided while she was STILL IN THE WOMB that her daughter was going to college on a cheerleading scholarship... who else has been taking gymnastics and dance classes since she was five... who else has been going to cheerleading camps every summer since she was nine... who else was the best cheerleader on the squad last year even though she was just a sophomore... and who else was loved by the cheerleading coach?
What's the problem, I can hear you thinking. The problem was that Mrs. Caron... yes, that Mrs. Caron... just the best cheerleading coach in the state... turned in her resignation two weeks before tryouts. Seems like she is tired of fighting for money from our Neanderthal athletic director, so she is leaving to go to a private school where they take cheerleading seriously. I mean, Emmy, when she broke the news to me we just like hugged each other and cried for about ten minutes. She tried to talk me into transferring to her new school, but there is no way my parents can afford that. And besides, I don't want to leave all my friends here!
Anyway, still not a problem, right? I just have to break in a new coach. Then last week we found out that the new coach was going to be Mr. Hayward. Yeah, The Toad. You know he was the coach of the wrestling team for a long time, but that was one of the sports that was eliminated this year... not enough money... Title IX... etc. So he lost his job... well, he's still a history teacher... but everybody knows his real love was coaching. But he talked to his good buddy the A.D., and he got Mrs. Caron's old job. I mean, here is a guy who admits that he doesn't know anything about cheerleading... and who has a beef with females anyway over that whole Title IX thing... and he is going to be our coach???
Just the thought of being around that short, stubby sweaty pig... sorry, toad... is enough to make me sick. The only good thing about him being in charge is that he found a good assistant coach. We have a new algebra teacher this year... Mr. Lange... fresh out of college, and kind of a hottie too, for a teacher. Turns out he was a cheerleader in college, so we are assuming that he knows what he is doing. My hope is that The Toad will just sit back and collect the extra money for coaching and let the new guy actually run things.
So anyway, tryout day comes, and I'm stoked. You know how you always ace final exams, 'cause you've got that academic thing figured out, yada, yada. Well, that's how I feel about tryouts. There were 21 girls and eight guys that showed up, so the toad and his toady (hey, I just made a funny!) divided us up into two groups and had each group run through six of our cheers from last year. I mean, Emmy, I helped Mrs. Caron design some of those routines! Then they sent everybody to the locker room and had us go out one at a time and do some leaps, splits, whatever.
Of course, I had it nailed. The only thing that bothered me a little bit was that both Mr. Hayward and Mr. Lange seemed to spend more time looking at my legs than at what I was doing. But hey, we both know who has the best looking legs in school, right? After everyone had done their individual routines, Coach Hayward... I guess I better get used to saying that... called everyone back and told us that the announcement of who was going to be on the squad would be posted after school the next day.
So I went home that night feeling pretty good about things. Mom and I talked a lot about the tryouts, but mainly we were just trying to decide who else would be selected, and how good the squad would be next year. Well, you can see where this is going right? Yeah, next day after last period, I ran down to the bulletin board, and quickly scanned the names... to see who I would be working with next year of course. Then I realized that I had gotten to the bottom of the list, and one very obvious name was missing, MINE!
Emmypoo, I almost fainted. I read through the list again... you know I'm not the best reader in the world ;-) But my name just wasn't there. I read through the list again, slowly, and noticed that there were only eleven girls and six boys names on the list. The coaches had said they were going to have twelve girls on the squad. Then I noticed my name was in a note below the roster. It said that Brenda Morrison, Leah Riley, and yours truly were to report to Coach Hayward's office.
Well, as soon as I read that, I went storming into his ffice... well actually it was pretty hard to go storming, since it was right next door to the bulletin board, but you know what I mean. I was ready for a fight... no reptile... or is it amphibian?... was going to keep me off MY cheerleading squad. But after I got in the office and was face to face with Coach Hayward, the slimy way his eyes just moved up and down my body took away a lot of my anger.
Before I could say anything, he grinned at me, and said "Well, Miss Kelly, I guess you are wondering why your name was not on the list?"
I wanted to snarl something mean back at him, but I bit my tongue and decided to play it cool. I gave him my best polite little-girl "yes sir" and tried my hardest to give him a nice smile. I don't think that mattered, he was staring at my body and not my face.
"Here's the deal," he finally said. "We have one more spot left, and we just can't make up our mind between you and Miss Morrison and Miss Riley. So Coach Lange and I are going to have one more tryout tomorrow between the three of you. We'll be looking to be impressed, so bring your A game."
OK, no sweat again, right? I mean Brenda is so top-heavy that she can't do most of the tumbles and flips, and Leah has that pizza-face, so I shouldn't have been worried, right? God, I am such a BITCH when it comes to cheerleading. Don't answer that!
Then, just as I was leaving the office, Coach Hayward said one more thing. "Oh, Miss Kelly, by the way, I wanted to tell you that I want to take cheerleading in a little different direction next year. I want to go back to the way it was when I was in high school, when the cheerleaders were the hottest girls on campus, and were the object of every freshman boy's wet dream. So... try to emphasize the sex appeal tomorrow, OK?"
I couldn't believe that here in the 21st century... it is the 21st century right?... ever since 2000 I have been a little confused... and that kind of sexist attitude is not only out of date but downright illegal, right??
Mom was waiting to pick me up, and when I got in the car I spilled out everything in one long outburst... not making the team... another tryout... and the sex appeal comment. When I finished, Mom calmly as always, gave me a hug and said "We can do this, Heather, we can do this." I didn't know who the "we" was she was talking about, since I was the only one in the car with the problem.
I asked her if we shouldn't go to the school board and claim sexual harassment or something, but Mom said, "Honey, that will take too long. By the time it's resolved, you would probably miss your junior year on the squad. Sorry babe, the rules have changed, and we have to change with it."
Anyway, that night, while I was working on my homework... and yes, wiseass, I do occasionally do my homework... Mom came into my room and started pawing through my underwear drawer.
"Mom, what are you doing?"
"We're getting you ready for tomorrow, honey." There was that 'we' again. "Look, Heather, it it's sex they're looking for, it's sex we'll give them." She dug deep into the drawer and pulled out that g-string underwear that I bought last year but never had enough guts to actually wear. I didn't even know Mom knew about it. "OK, this will do for a start," she said as she tossed them on the bed. "And forget about wearing your cheer briefs, just go with the thong."
"Mom, what are you talking about?" I protested. "I can't do my routines that way. My butt will be sticking out."
"Now you're getting the idea, Heather," Mom grinned at me. "Look, Honey, it's time I was honest with you. You know I've told you how being a cheerleader was the best thing I did in school? What I never told you about was that I wasn't the most talented girl on the squad, and I wasn't the prettiest either. So I had to use everything I could to get picked. That's why you just need to trust me on this one. I've played this game before."
Who are you, and what have you done with my mother, I felt like asking. She kept digging around until she found an old sweater that I had stopped wearing a year ago because it was too small. "Here," she threw it at me. "your breasts aren't that big, but they are nicely shaped, and they should look good in this. Oh, and ditch those crappy shorts you wore to the tryouts yesterday. Wear the skirt from your freshman year uniform. That should be short enough to give them a good show."
There's no arguing with Mom when she gets that look on her face... you know the one... where her lips kind of disappear and she gets that big, ugly crease in her forehead... so I wore the slut suit she picked out for me to the tryout the next day.
I was like so embarrassed that I couldn't concentrate on what I was doing and messed up a couple of simple routines. I knew I was blowing it, which made it even harder to concentrate. And every time I did a jump or a split, I could see both Coach Hayward and Coach Lange staring right at my crotch or my butt.
Then The Toad said he wanted to see a couple of lifts, and he asked Coach Lange to help out. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, but that sorry SOB was copping a feel every time he got his hands on me. First his thumb was pressing into my pussy on one lift, then my asshole on another, and when he caught me after the throws, somehow one of his hands ended up squeezing a tit each time. I mean, Mrs. Caron used to kick guys off the squad for that kind of stuff! And both he and The Toad had these creepy grins on there face the whole time. What a couple of pervs!
Finally, it was over. Coach Hayward didn't say anything other than they would let us know the next day who got the last spot. I ran out to the parking lot and jumped into the car. I just wanted to go home, take a long, hot shower, and put on some normal clothes. I wasn't even sure I wanted to be on the squad if I was going to have to put up with those creeps all year.
But when I got in the car, Mom didn't head home right away. Instead, she told me to wait in the care while she went to "have a little talk" with the coaches. I wanted to tell her to stay out of it, I was afraid that her meddling would only make it worse, but she had those tight lips again, so I just let her go.
I waited in the hot car for about fifteen minutes, then I got pissed. I was hot, tired, and I just wanted to go home. So I went back inside to see what was taking her so long. When I got back to Coach Hayward's office, I heard Mom and Coach Hayward talking, so I just barged right in.
Now you will see why this note has to be kept a secret. The first thing I saw when I entered the office was The Toad standing in front of his desk, with his pants down around his ankles, and with my mom on her knees in front of him.
"Mom, what are you doing!" I squeaked.
They both turned and looked at me, but neither one of them seemed to be too shocked to see me, and Mom didn't stop what she was doing. She said, "Well, come on in Heather. After all, this is all about you anyway. Remember what I told you last night about having to use every trick I could to get what I wanted? Well, it looks like those tricks still work."
As Mom went back to fishing Coach Hayward's cock out of his underwear, he turned to me and said, "Yeah, Heather. It looks like your mom really wants you to be picked. You're a lucky girl, not many parents would go this far for their kid."
I heard a laugh to my right. I was so shocked by what I was seeing that I hadn't noticed that Coach Lange was there too, sitting on that ratty old leather sofa that Mrs. Caron has had in her office since forever. He was watching what was going on with a big smile on his face, and his cock in his hand. I couldn't move or say anything. I tried to ignore Coach Lange, and just stared at my mom as she took the toad's penis into her mouth and started bobbing her head.
OK, I know there really wasn't anything funny about what was going on, but I almost had to laugh out loud when I saw Coach Hayward's prick. I mean Em, there was this big, scary-lookin' macho guy, with a tiny dinky poking out from under his belly. It looked like a little boys penis... not that I know a lot about little boys, smartass... you now what I mean. It was about the size of my big toe... wait a minute, make that your big toe... you know how small and dainty my feet are ;-)
Well make this short sweet I made the team w conditions I need help coach out when ever needed.

The Mentor Pt. 7
Finnick Odair x Reader
Summary: Your Hunger Games strategy goes off the rails when a friend comes to you with a plan
Part 6
Tumblr media
“Look kid, this isn’t like last time, you’re not on a level playing field here.”
Katniss crossed her arms as she leaned back into the couch of District Twelve’s Capitol penthouse.
“These are Capitol darlings, lethal weapons, murderers one and all, gathered neatly together for an All Stars round. Of these stars, you are space dust. Recency may be on your side, but little else. They are older, stronger,”
Peeta effectively interrupted, “Who are they?”
“What?” Haymitch blinked.
“Take us through them. Surely you can offer some insight, after knowing them all these years,” he shrugged.
“I’ll ignore the fact you just called me old,” the older man walked off to grab the tablet that controlled the TV. District by district, he took his tributes through their competition.
When he got to District Four, Katniss beat him to it, “Finnick O’Dair, right?”
“Yes,” Haymitch confirmed, “he won his games at fourteen. Youngest ever. Extremely humble.” The image of the tall, bronzed man sauntering across their screen seemed to disagree.
“You’re kidding,” she deadpanned.
“Yes! I’m kidding,” Haymitch snapped. “He’s a,” he dramatically moved his hair, “peacock. A total preener. But he’s the Capitol Darling, they love him here. Charming, smart, and very skilled at combat. Especially in water.”
“What about weaknesses?” Peeta leaned forward.
“One,” Haymitch confirmed, “Mags. She was his mentor and basically raised him. If he’s trying to protect her in any way it exposes him.”
“A guy like that has to know she’s not gonna make it. I bet when it really comes down to it he won’t protect her,” Katniss shrugged.
“Well, Katniss,” Haymitch said, “I just hope when she goes she goes quickly. She’s actually a wonderful lady.”
Katniss blinked guiltily at his statement, and Peeta leaned back into the couch.
“But if he does ally with her it’ll make him less of a threat,” Peeta offered.
Haymitch let out a sour little laugh, “Oh, we’ll get to his allies.”
Peeta winced when Haymitch later marked the intimidating young woman from District Seven as one, and was surprised at the lack of others.
By the time he got to Ten, Katniss was antsy, “Can we wrap this up?”
“Sure if you want to ignore a huge fucking threat,” Haymitch shrugged.
“It looks like a strong gust of wind would blow him over,” Katniss complained.
“Not him,” her mentor snapped, clicking forward, “Darla Kennedy.”
Their attention went back to the screen when another young woman appeared, stepping forward and giving an assured nod to the cameras.
“Darla is young, well connected, and deadly with a whip,” Haymitch began.
“Who’s that behind her?” Peeta interrupted, noticing the woman peace keepers were escorting off stage.
“Well, since you mentioned it,” he rewinded the feed to when the young women were standing next to each other. “That,” he pointed to the one they weren’t familiar with, “is Darla’s mentor. One of the most popular tributes to ever come out of the games, and maybe the best mentor I’ve ever met.”
“How do you mean?” Peeta pressed.
“She saved Darla’s life about four times during her games with just wit and a warm smile,” he shrugged, “if she wanted a sponsor there’d be twenty knocking down her door. Kid’s a magnet, and a brilliant strategist. Not to mention, a great drinking buddy,” Haymitch finished.
“Not helpful,” Katniss griped, and the man rolled his eyes.
“Point is, if you don’t think she’s calling on every favor she’s owed and pulling every string in her arsenal to save that girl, you’re dead wrong. Darla’s practically all she has left,” Haymitch elaborated, “but both Ten ladies are good friends with Finnick.”
“Finnick?” Peeta asked, surprised.
“Not that he’d need the help with sponsors,” Haymitch shrugged, “but no doubt it’ll be a scary alliance. One you might consider joining.”
“No way,” Katniss scoffed.
“Like I said, I’m friends with their mentor, I could hook you up,” he doubled down.
“Not interested,” she grunted.
“Look,” Haymitch sat on the coffee table across from them, “you’re starting at a disadvantage. Most of these people have been friends for years.”
“That just puts us higher on their kill list,” Katniss snapped, crossing her arms.
“Do it your own way,” Haymitch shrugged, “but I know these people. You go it alone, their first move is gonna be to hunt you down. Both of you.” He left the room before his words even sank in.
————————————
Your fingers twitched while you waited for Darla to wake up. Sometimes you cursed yourself for being an early bird, but after your games you couldn’t help but get up with the sun. Some lasting self-preservation instinct had always been your theory. You had a plan for her, not that she’d like it.
Shuffling from the hall caught your attention, and you perked up to see her walking toward the breakfast table half-awake.
“Morning,” you said, quickly. She just grunted as she poured herself some coffee. “I want to run something by you.”
She took a sip of coffee, placing pastries from the breakfast spread onto her plate. When she realized you weren’t still talking she looked up, and gestured for you to go on.
“I want you and Finnick working together,” you started.
Darla interrupted, mouth full of croissant, “Obviously, that was just a given.”
You clenched your jaw a bit, but barreled on, “and I want the two of you working with Johanna and-“
“No!” She cut you off, nostrils flared. “That’s a recipe for disaster, and you know it.”
“It’s the best plan I’ve got,” you fired back, “the Capitol knows the two of you were together. They’ll eat your dynamic right up, and keep you alive long enough for you to keep making good television.”
She looked indignant, but you doubled down, “Johanna is a strong fighter, and with Finnick distracted protecting Mags you’ll need to beef up your alliance. If Blight comes with her, the five of you can square off evenly against the careers.”
“We’re sure Finnick won’t want to join the pack?” Darla raised a brow, and you blinked at her in surprise.
“You really think he’d do that?” You asked, voice light. Would he? You were so certain of his character you hadn’t even considered the possibility. But the games always changed things- changed people. When she made a face at you, you shook it off, “You know he loves Mags, he wouldn’t just leave her. And the careers are too pragmatic to take on someone they see as dead weight.”
“Good thing I’m not pragmatic, then,” Darla said wryly, taking a bite of a fruit tart.
Pragmatic, no. Entertaining, yes. Watching Finnick care for Mags would melt hearts across the nation, and they wouldn’t be able to turn the cameras away from two bickering exes. Putting on a show was the first step to a one way ticket out of the arena. You just didn’t want to think about which one of your friends would be the one to take it.
Your strategy started as soon as the train pulled into the station. Walking onto the platform with an arm over Darla’s shoulder, and big smiles on both of your faces. If there was ever a time to appeal to the audience it was now. Normally you’d shy away from questions, but with a few cameras you were eager to assert your tribute early.
“We’re always happy to visit the Capitol! You all make us feel so welcome here!” Darla assured a reporter. So she had taken your strategy briefing to heart.
“While we wish we could be seeing you under better circumstances,” you jumped in, “we’re certainly going to make the most of our time here. You might just get sick of seeing us!” You laughed with the reporter, touching her wrist lightly.
From there you were off to the races, starting a campaign of phone calls in the car. Scheduling an appearance on daytime TV to talk up Darla, conversing with the connections you’d made over the years, and making appointments for drinks or coffee occupied your afternoon.
Darla took the time to settle in to the space, flicking through magazines on the couch as you talked your throat dry. After hanging up on another Capitolite, you scratched some more notes on the meticulous schedule you’d started.
“Time for a break?” Darla asked from the other room after a minute of silence.
“Time for a drink,” you complained, but caught a glimpse of the time. “Shit!”
“What?” She asked as you ran to the room you’d stayed in during your annual visits.
“I’m meeting Mrs. Montgomery for dinner!” You shouted back.
“Who?”
Within ten minutes you stumbled back out in a short, but stylish cocktail dress.
“How do I look?” You asked, shoving your feet into a small pair of heels as you smeared lipgloss on your mouth.
“Stellar,” Darla assured you, not bothering to look up from her magazine.
You were busy clipping your hair up, assessing your appearance in the microwave’s reflection. “Really?” You fretted, finally turning toward her.
“Absolutely!” She said enthusiastically, still not looking up.
Your shoulders dropped, “Fuck off!” Grabbing your purse, you headed for the door.
“Love you too! Thanks for all you do for-“
The slamming door cut her off, and she snickered.
Mrs. Montgomery was over the moon that’d you’d asked her out to dinner, and recommended her favorite spot in the city. Luckily it was only a few blocks away, and with some extra incentive your driver floored it. You walked into her embrace right on time, and successfully reminded her of how much she adored you for an hour.
Long ago you had learned just how much Capitolites liked to talk about themselves, and you used it to your advantage more often than not. Questions like, “How are your students? I so regret I haven’t been able to visit recently!” Were unbelievably well received, and further endeared you to the very wealthy woman who sat across the table.
Finally, she came to address the elephant in the room, “I’m sure it’s hard for you to be here under these circumstances.”
You nodded, “It is. This is my home away from home, but I can’t help but worry for Darla.” She nodded sympathetically, you had her hooked, but it was time to reel her in, “She’s so so capable, and I know she’ll go far, but I need her to come home.”
Mrs. Montgomery reached across the table for your hand, “We’ll be happy to sponsor Darla.” She spoke on behalf of herself and her ultra-rich husband, who you’d have the displeasure of meeting as a client.
“It would mean so much to me to have yours and Mr. Montgomery’s support. Please tell him I asked after him, by the way,” you squeezed her hand gently. You might come to regret it later, but what was the point of being forced to have a roster if you couldn’t put them to good use. The man was richer than God, and had requested your company on multiple occasions. An appeal to his wife and to him, though indirectly, would go far. You could face any consequences later.
You paid for dinner yourself, though Mrs. Montgomery did protest, earning even more points towards your cause. A warm goodbye hug marked your departure, and soon enough you were B-Lining to the hotel bar in the lobby of the training center.
—————
“If it isn’t my favorite District Twelve victor,” an airy voice pulled Haymitch’s attention from the glass of bourbon he’d been swirling. Pleasantly surprised to see you, he turned the futuristic stool next to him in your direction.
“Well, have a seat, your highness,” he invited, and you settled in at the bar. “What are you drinking?”
“Surprise me,” you set your purse on the counter. He slid you his untouched glass of bourbon. “Lazy,” you complained, before taking a sip.
“You’re just the gal I’ve been wanting to see,” a small smile spread across his thin lips and raised alarm bells in your mind.
“Why’s that?” You asked cautiously.
“Let’s go for a walk,” he stood from his chair, but you shook your head.
“Let’s not,” you weren’t aiming to be associated with Twelve right now. If Capitolites saw the two of you on the street and got to talking, it could be bad for business. Katniss and Peeta made for a good show, but with your finger on the pulse of the Capitol, you could tell when Snow was displeased. That wasn’t an obstacle you currently needed in your way.
Haymitch put his hands up in surrender, “Then I’ll mix you something better.” He winded around to the other side of the bar. Stopping in front of you, he snatched the glass of bourbon back and polished it off. Where the bartender had run off to, you couldn’t say.
“What do you want?”
“Your ear,” he crushed some mint at the bottom of a new glass. “I just don’t want you to waste your efforts.”
Your brow furrowed, he was crazier than you thought if he was asking you to back off, “I spend my energy carefully, thank you.”
“Then spend it on this,” he plopped a mojito in front of you, “your girl makes it out and so does mine.”
You raised a brow, inspecting both him and your drink, “You know that can’t happen.”
“If you pretend we’re flirting while I lean in to tell you the plan it can,” you blinked for a second before meeting him halfway.
“A transport is coming from District Thirteen to pick up Katniss and anyone aiding her from the arena. They want her for the rebellion,” Haymitch breathed into your ear. Pretending you hadn’t just heard literal whispers of treason involving a long-dead district was difficult, but you managed to swallow your shock.
“When?” If true, this would change everything. Your moves would need to incorporate Katniss and Peeta, your endgame would be totally different. But first you had to determine the chances of this going wrong.
“I don’t know yet,” Haymitch whispered.
“Give me something here,” you pleaded, “I can’t work with nothing. How could I trust a pretty promise?”
“Don’t get your panties in a twist,” he warned, and you angled your head enough so he could see your glare. “You know very well I’m too chicken to take anything less than a sure bet.”
“You’re awful at gambling, and you’re a reckless old drunk,” you snarked quietly back, this wasn’t a risk you could take lightly.
“I’m telling you this because I need your help, and Darla’s, and Finnick’s, and Johanna’s,” he went on, but you cut him off.
“You’re assembling a team of political defectors?”
Haymitch’s nostrils flared, but went on before you could protest further, “We need to keep Katniss alive until Plutarch can get her and her allies out of that arena.”
“Plutarch?” That caught you off guard, and you reeled back. Your volume clearly bothered him, though the bar was empty. Haymitch clapped a hand over your mouth.
“Yes,” he confirmed quietly, scanning the room, “though this is all meant to be secret!”
You smacked his hand away, “Then what is my part in your lovely little treason plot?”
“You need to recruit the others,” Haymitch nodded.
“Excuse me?!”
“Well, as helpful as you’ll be pulling strings from behind the scenes, Katniss needs allies in the arena,” he said.
“You really think they’d commit treason because I asked nicely?” You were skeptical.
“Yes,” he nodded, and you gaped.
Shaking it off, you kept pushing, “What makes you think they’ll work with her? What makes you think she’ll work with them?”
“She doesn’t know about this,” he said sharply, “and she can’t. All they have to do is not kill her, and eliminate those tributes who might.”
“The careers, then,” you tilted your chin up.
“Bingo.”
You took a sip of the now slightly watered mojito, “So what does she know?”
“What you did when you won,” he offered, “shoot to kill, play to win.”
“Will she take any allies?” You asked, taking a deep breath, “You know that’d make things easier.”
“I’m working on it,” he shook his head.
“Yeah, that’s a no,” you huffed a laugh, astounded by the turn of events. Never in a million years would you have seen this coming. You knew Katniss had stirred something up, but had not foreseen a full fledged rebellion on the immediate horizon.
“She needs time,” Haymitch insisted, “Peeta will help her see the logic behind strong allies.”
“And how much does he know?” You set your glass down with a clink. Haymitch just shook his head. Sighing, you barreled on, “I don’t like this, you know?”
“I know,” he nodded, eyes clear and serious. You weren’t sure you’d seen him quite like this before. “But you’ll do it. You don’t want to have to choose between Finnick and Darla.”
Tightening your grasp around the glass, you ran your tongue across your teeth. Fuck if he didn’t have you pinned. If there was even a slight chance you could save them both, you’d take it. Just when Haymitch had realized how deep your affection for Finnick ran, you had no clue. Suddenly, you hoped you weren’t a chatty drunk.
“Your lives will all be better for it,” Haymitch said, “we’ll all be free.” You met his gaze head on, and were surprised to find hope lying in them.
“I’ll talk to D tonight,” you nodded once, “and I’ll get to Fin and Jo.” Haymitch’s shoulders sagged with something like relief. When you clocked Peeta walking in from the other side of the room, you knew it was time to wrap things up. You leaned in close, again.
“But don’t think I’m doing all your dirty work, Old Man,” you said lowly, with a coy grin, “I’m sending them your way!” You planted a quick kiss on his cheek, leaving behind a lip stick print. Quickly grabbing your purse, you sprung off your stool.
With some manufactured pep in your step, you walked towards the blond boy. “Don’t let him fix you a drink, Peeta,” you said, conversationally, “for a drunk, he’s piss poor at it!” The last part was directed at your old pal, who’d now placed the lot of you in a precarious spot.
“I missed you too, Sugar!” He yelled back, wide grin on his face as you sauntered toward the elevator.
Peeta looked at him, amused, but skeptical, “What’d she want?”
“A piece of this!” Haymitch gestured dramatically toward himself, and picked up the glass you’d left behind. Polishing it off, he choked a little at the taste. You’d been right, of course, he was a little rusty at bartending.
——————————
You tugged at the shoulder of Darla’s tribute outfit. When you’d suggested leather to the stylist, this wasn’t what you’d meant. Skin tight, black patent leather reflected sunlight into your eyes. You let your hand come to your brow as you shook your head.
“What?”
You raised a brow at the stylist, one of Darla’s.
“What’s wrong with it?”
“You don’t think it leans a little… kinky?” You shrugged, frustrated.
“Well, you said leather,” the stylist defended themself.
“And you took that as BDSM?”
Darla threw her hands up in the air at your comment, tired of being examined, and wandered off.
You sent the stylist away before they could argue any further. This parade was already a mess. Your plans to put Darla on horseback, to harken back to her first parade, were ruined by Darby’s apparent inability to ride a horse. There was no way you could put her on horseback if those poor creatures were pulling a cart as well. You pet one of the horses that would be pulling the Ten tributes, and the action calmed you a bit. Only, your peace was disturbed when you saw Finnick putting the moves on Katniss.
Of the ways to piss off the standoffish girl you’d been charged with helping protect, he had to pick this one. It took about ten seconds for you to march over and fix it.
“I’m sorry you had to cancel your wedding. I know how devastating that must be for you,” you overheard. His voice oozed with sarcasm and you rolled your eyes.
“Is this strange man bothering you, Katniss?” You didn’t wait for a response before dragging him off by his ear.
“Hey, now,” he complained, but kept at your side. “Peeta,” Finnick tried for a dignified nod as you passed him, but came up short.
“Finnick,” he nodded back, gaze turning to you.
“Bye, Peeta!” You waved with your free hand.
“See ‘ya, Sugar,” he waved back, kindly.
Finnick planted his feet, freeing himself in an instant, “Sugar?!” He stood to his full height and shot the Twelve tribute a sour look. You rolled your eyes and started dragging him by the wrist instead. While you were going to correct Peeta, you no longer saw a point.
“Sugar?” Katniss questioned too, a skeptical look on her face.
“Is that not her name?” Peeta was confused. “That’s what Haymitch called- oh,” he seemed to have answered his own question, and Katniss let out a small laugh.
“What was that?” You asked Finnick, when you’d finally pulled him to a secluded area.
“What? I was just being nice,” he defended himself, about to pop a sugar cube in his mouth. You plucked it from his hand and tossed it over you shoulder. Finnick blinked.
“So I was trying to sus her out,” he shrugged, “big deal. If the Capitol finds out their romance is a lie, their support goes up in flames… like her little dresses.”
You rolled your eyes. If you were still playing to win, you would’ve liked his angle, but as it was, you had to steer the ship back on course. “Play nice with her, would you? I’m working on something.”
“You’re working on something that includes the girl on fire?”
You grabbed his wrist, “Keep it quiet and come find me later. Find Haymitch too!” Sensing the parade was about to start, you turned to go.
“Some greeting,” he complained, moodily. You stopped in your tracks, and turned again to face him.
“Did I forget to say hi to you and your abs and your skirt?” You asked facetiously.
“You did” he nodded, “we were offended.” Rolling your eyes amusedly, you stepped up close to him.
“Hello Finnick,” you said, meeting his gaze. “Hi Finnick’s abs,” your gaze moved down as you went, “hi Finnick’s skirt.” You couldn’t help the grin that tugged at your lips as you looked back up at him. “Happy?” You asked.
“Very,” he nodded, soundly.
“Good,” you nodded back.
“I missed that smile.” He said lowly, leaning in a bit. You were really fighting against your grin, now.
“It missed you too,” you said, refusing to make eye contact.
“Really?” His eyes sparkled as he looked down at you.
“Don’t you have a populous to charm?” You tilted your head.
“I’ve got a you to charm, first,” he blinked, innocently. When he reached out to tug on a strand of your hair, you’d had enough.
You lightly swatted his hands away and skittered back, “Go! … Do your parade prep,” you sputtered.
Finnick tried to conceal his laughter at your reaction. He just loved to see you flustered. “If you insist,” he bowed his head and began to trot off. But he couldn’t resist throwing a melodic goodbye over his shoulder and taking one last glance to see you hurry off.
————————————
Finnick wouldn’t see you again until later, though he did try. He eventually found you at a party that night, a young Capitol socialite you were both familiar with was throwing a celebration in honor of the games.
When he saw Darla tearing up the dance floor, he had no doubt that you were behind the appearance, and started scanning the rooms in the penthouse. Finally, he found you hidden away in a quiet spot, typing away on a tablet.
Hard at work securing sponsors, no doubt. If he was lucky, he’d be reaping the rewards of Darla’s 101 sponsor gifts. Maybe you’d even deign to send him a little something. He called your name to pull you from your work.
You looked up from your tablet, curiously. His hand tensed. When did you start wearing glasses? How did they make you look even more-
“Finnick?” You arched a brow.
“Yup?” He said, shoving both hands in his pockets.
You blinked at him from your spot on a couch, “Spaced out there for a second?”
“Yup,” he nodded. You rose to meet him when you noticed he wasn’t moving to sit beside you. He watched the slinky black dress graze your thighs as you walked.
“Are you alright?”
“Yup,” he said, a little breathy.
“Okay,” you said, skeptically, “So in terms of-“
“Sorry,” he interrupted, swallowing, “when did you start wearing glasses?”
“What?” You asked, not quite following his train of thought.
He inched closer and adjusted the frames on your nose as you blinked up at him, “When did this become a thing?”
“I-“ you floundered. Was he blushing?
“Okay, lovebirds,” Johanna breezed into the room. You jolted and Finnick snatched his hands away from your face in surprise. “Wrap it up, I want to hear this brilliant plan of yours.”
She directed the last part towards you. You had found her earlier and told her essentially the same thing you’d said to Finnick. Johanna was surly, sure, but had a soft spot for you. She’d won the year after Darla, and you eventually took her under your wing as well. Not in time to warn her to take Snow’s threats seriously, but soon enough to comfort her before she could spiral too badly.
You tried to shake off the confusing last few moments, “Alright, well, marketing it as my plan was maybe a little disingenuous.” They both seemed confused at your words. “But if it’s the plan I think it is it’s a plan I can get behind,” you rushed out
“Are we throwing a surprise party? What the hell are you talking about?” Johanna asked.
“Look, I,” you did a quick glance around the room, and motioned for them to follow you. They both did, but it only further soured Johanna’s mood. When you found a private enough corner, you told them what Haymitch had told you.
“So what? We have to protect pretty little princess for a free ticket out of here?” Johanna spat.
“Basically,” you nodded. Looking over at Finnick, you tried to gauge his reaction. He hadn’t said anything, and still seemed deep in thought.
You knew neither of your friends were fond of the Capitol. They had both lost more than they’d care to admit to these people, but you couldn’t begrudge them for trying to think this through. You’d spent a few hours doing the same before you brought it to Darla last night, and she had to sleep on it.
“Look,” you tried again, “the reality is, she probably won’t ally with you. I still think the smartest thing to do would be to bring both your district partners and Darla into an alliance of five. If you can manage to knock out some threats to her, you can bide your time until the free plane ride.”
They both seemed to relax a bit at that, but there was still some hesitance. “You really think throwing Darla and I together is a smart move?” Johanna asked smartly.
“I don’t take this lightly,” you said with an air of scolding, “I’m trying to keep you safe. Right now, the only way I know how is asking you to watch each others backs in the arena while I watch yours from here. Can you trust me to do that?”
“Yes,” Finnick chimed in seriously, speaking for the first time in minutes.
Johanna was silent for only a few seconds longer, “Yes. But don’t expect me to be nice to her.”
You weren’t quite sure if she was talking about Katniss or Darla, but either way it didn’t surprise you. You only shrugged at her before she walked away.
“So,” you turned casually back to Finnick, “where were we?” You gave him a quick once over, and he seemed to tense up.
“I think I might turn in,” he nodded quickly, brow furrowed. When you titled your head and shot him a confused glance he barreled on, laughing awkwardly, “Big day tomorrow, super tired, goodnight!” He took smell steps backward with every word before practically bolting.
He breezed past Darla, face a little flushed. She smirked a little at his quick pace, and shook her head as she approached you. “What was that about?” She laughed.
“Beats me,” you shook your head, confused and a more than a little disappointed at his departure. After all, you hadn’t seen him in a few months. Most of your phone calls had circled back to the quell, and you would’ve liked some time together. At least the escape plan had made you more optimistic about your chances of seeing him again.
————————————
“Answer me this,” Darla’s voice startled him the next day at training. “Why’d you leave the party in a rush?”
“Sorry?” Finnick remembered it well, but in the light of day was better able to keep his cool. Damned glasses.
Darla rolled her eyes, “Why don’t you tell me after I kick your ass?” She gestured toward the mats set up in an alcove and started walking that way. He followed her lead and took on a fighting stance.
She started to throw out guesses as he dodged her jabs. “Indigestion?” He blocked a punch. “Had to vomit?” Blocked a kick. “Left the oven on?” Sidestepped a hit. Her barrage continued until he swept her legs out from under her.
Darla landed on the mat without complaint, more concerned with him than with training. “Then what sent you running from my lovely mentor?”
Finnick offered her a hand up, but she swept his legs out too. Lying in opposite directions on the floor, he made his first verbal defense. “What, you don’t get sick of those parties?”
She propped herself up on her elbows and sent him a glare. It was intimidating too, but Darla had learned from the best. “Cut the crap, I know there’s a reason. No way she could fathom being rude to you, so that’s out.” Finnick rolled his eyes as sat up. “And she’s got no game so no way she made you blush.”
“Come on,” he said, defensively, pushing to his feet, “don’t insult her.”
Darla perked up at this, and accepted the hand he had once again offered, “Wait, it was really her that made you blush? What on Earth did she say?”
“Drop it, D,” he warned, stalking off.
“I am so getting to the bottom of this!” She chirped, smiling at his departing figure.
Darla gave him some space for a while, flitting around the various stations. The practical skills called out to her, no use practicing with weapons when she was already as good as she’d get.
When she saw Finnick bothering Katniss she made her way over to intervene. He’d tied a noose around his neck, the cheeky bastard. Just when he held it out for Katniss to take, Darla snatched it and pulled him away.
She heard him wheeze and let up on her grasp. “Fuck,” Finnick choked out as loosened the rope from around his neck. “Darla!” He scolded her once he was properly free.
“Don’t antagonize the girl,” she said, stopping once they were out of ear shot, “and don’t act like you’re not spoken for.”
He didn’t bother replying to the first part, “I’m not spoken for.” Darla shot him a glare, saying you’re really going to pretend I’m wrong? with just her eyes. When he glared back she only shrugged.
“You could be,” she sassed, and he took a sharp breath.
“I don’t think now is the time to-“
“If not now then when?!” Darla whisper-yelled, “Newsflash buddy, you still might die. So do you want to die sad and alone… or spoken for?”
“Do I really come off as sad and alone?” Finnick blinked.
“Only to those who know you,” she shook her head.
“Gee thanks, Darla,” he said flatly.
“It’s my pleasure,” she gave him a friendly yet exaggerated shoulder bump. “Come on, let’s catch the show.” Finnick followed her off to join the crowd forming around Katniss’s simulation session.
Darla could see the faces of the other tributes drop as Katniss put down figure after figure. They were nearly all modeled after the rest of them, and featured their signature weapons at the very least. She clenched her jaw when Katniss shot the female figure holding a whip straight through the face. No mistaking who that was meant to be. She saw Finnick twitch when Katniss shot the figure with a trident through the chest. By the end, it was clear that the girl was absolutely on the level of every person there. If luck was on her side, and she wanted to, she could likely kill each one of them.
Wiress started clapping, and it killed some of the tension in the air. But the quell was getting more interesting by the minute.
——————-
The four of you sat in silence in a both in the empty lounge within the training center. You traced the rim of your drink, hoping Haymitch would arrive soon since he asked you all to meet him there. The casual conversation had died out a bit ago, having run out of outfits to make fun of to keep the conversation light. It was hard not to think about your immediate circumstances.
You shivered a little, still unused to the central air the Capitol pumped through all their buildings. Finnick caught your eye and nodded his head in the other direction, inviting you to scoot closer to him. You would’ve shaken your head if you hadn’t put on a tank top earlier, but you were chilly enough to press up against his side in a bid to steal body heat.
Finnick raised a hand to wave to Haymitch when he saw the older man scanning the place. He settled the arm over your shoulder when he was done. Behind your head, he caught Darla narrow her gaze at him and sent her a look of warning.
“What’s the update?” He asked Haymitch as the man slotted into the space at the edge of the curved booth.
“Well, Katniss is not keen on allies,” he said, instantly off to a bad start, “though she is interested in the District Three Tributes.”
“Excuse me?” Johanna asked.
“Yeah,” he nodded, “Wiress and Beete.”
“You mean she wants Nuts and Volts for allies?” Darla asked, and heard Johanna try to muffle a snicker. She tried not to smirk at the sound. So much for ‘not understanding her’ or whatever Jo had said during their breakup.
“Look, don’t shoot the messenger,” he defended himself.
“Maybe we should if the message is dumb,” Johanna snarked, crossing her arms.
“She said she liked them,” Haymitch repeated, and the whole table winced. Maybe as people, Darla thought, though even that might be a stretch, but as allies? In terms of physical game it’d be like tying a brick around your ankle. Hadn’t the girl seen anyone else at work? Johanna’s axe skills? The second time she and Finnick had sparred?
“Anyone else?” You tried, hoping for a better result. Haymitch thought for a second before snapping his fingers.
“Yeah, Mags!” Darla groaned, make that two bricks. Finnick used the arm he’d draped across your shoulders to flick Darla in the ear.
“Mags and I are a package deal,” Finnick asserted. Not a chance in hell he’d trust someone else to protect Mags.
“Then my bet would be no deal from the girl on fire,” Haymitch shrugged.
“Ok, so we’re keeping Katniss alive, but Three too?” Darla asked.
“Haven’t we established-?”
“We’ve got it,” you reassured him, and Finnick and Johanna nodded.
“Good,” Haymitch saidd. “We’ll,” he nodded in your direction, “keep in touch through sponsor gifts. But it’ll have to be subtle, so keep your thinking caps on.”
“Is that it?” Johanna asked, bored.
“No actually,” he went on, “when the time comes you’ll have to cut out your trackers and one of you will have to get Katniss’s.”
“Shit,” Darla said.
“Squeamish?” Johanna taunted her from the other side of the table. Haymitch interrupted before a fight could break out.
“Before then,” he said, firmly, “I’d recommend making a big show of the interviews. Last chance to drum up public outrage at this, maybe get it cancelled.” Johanna scoffed at that, but Haymitch kept on, “At the very least it’ll be good for sponsors.”
“He’s right about that,” you nodded, already thinking up possible interview angles for Darla.
Haymitch grinned, “I’ll see you all there.” He pushed away from the table, heading back to his own tributes, no doubt.
Johanna walked away next, and Darla popped up to follow her.
“Think they’ll kill each other before the games start?” Finnick asked, angling his head to look at you.
You let out a chuckle, still tucked under his arm. “Let’s hope not. I’m counting on those repressed feelings to bring in sponsorships,” you replied, watching the two walk off. He grinned, shaking with a bit of laughter. When you looked up to catch his gaze, you realized how close you were.
“They sure are powerful,” Finnick said, holding your gaze.
You blinked at him, “Sorry?”
“Repressed feelings,” he clarified, doing his best to look innocent. You elbowed him and scooted away from his grasp and out of the booth. You’d been dancing around your feelings for him for so long you didn’t know how to do anything else.
“Goodnight, Finnick!” You called over your shoulder as you marched away. He sighed as he watched you go, a small smile working on his face. Maybe Darla was onto something.

Hope you enjoyed <3333 next part coming soon! That one will cover the interviews and the start of the games at least

Love Wins (Even in Red) | 3
Tumblr media
Pairing: Mason Mount x Reporter!Reader
Summary: Fate reunites them under the red lights of Old Trafford. Interviews are frosty, leaving people wondering why. Can Mason forgive Reader for something that happened in the past? Can she win Mason's heart and prove love wins even on red?
Word Count: 3526
Author's Note: You could read part 1 and 2 in my now old blog, but my account was closed by Tumblr, but I still wanted people to read part 3 (even if the other parts have died), so here it is. If you haven't read or don't remember the other parts, I think it's best not to read this one.
Thought you'd hate me, but instead you called And said, "I miss you", I caught it
Your shoes on her feet were pissing you off. Everything about her visit, the bad timing, the unwelcome reminder of the past, was starting to grate. Lily was your little sister, and despite the years of hurt and betrayal, a sliver of love still flickered within you. It would always be there, buried deep, but trust and affection? Those were long gone.
Across the table, your roommate glared at Lily with daggers for eyes. Clare wasn't happy about this surprise visit either and the way she chopped her steak said it all.
Clare's voice, sharp as a knife, cut through the awkward silence. "So, Lily, what brings you here?"
Lily offered her a smile. "Oh, I just miss Y/n so much! And since she couldn't make it to my graduation, I thought I'd surprise her with a visit. You know, it's been ages!"
You scoffed internally. Lily wasn't the sentimental type, and affection had never been her strong suit. Neither had it been for the rest of your family.
"Right." She managed, forcing a neutral smile. You shot Clare a glance, hoping to restrain her hatred, but your roommate ignored you completely. "How long are you planning to stay?"
"Only three days!" Lily said. "I got a job back in London, going to start next week."
"Oh, that's good."
You stayed silent, picking at your food without much appetite. You could practically hear your mother's voice in your head: "Y/n, don't play with your food!" Your stomach was already churning from the earlier incident, and the awkward dinner atmosphere wasn't helping.
"Y/n? Did you hear me?"
You blinked, startled by your thoughts. "Sorry, what were you saying?"
"Just wondering how things are going with you. Work? Everything alright?" Her voice dripped with a sweetness you found questionable. Was she mocking you? Or maybe trying to pry about how you were doing with Mason now that he was around?
Across the table, Clare let out a loud scrape as her knife snagged across her plate. The harsh sound did little to hide the tension radiating from her. You could practically see her clench her jaw, trying to control her anger.
"Everything's good," you mumbled, forcing a smile. You didn't want to get into a conversation, especially not with Lily. But the silence felt suffocating, so you offered a bland reply, hoping to deflect further questions.
The Christmas lights twinkled on the tree, casting a warm glow on the richly decorated table. You, recently graduated, sat across from your parents, a nervous excitement bubbling in your chest. You'd finally landed your dream job – a football reporter. Tonight, you wanted to share your accomplishment, to celebrate this pivotal moment in your life with your family.
"So, Y/n," your father started, "tell us all about this 'football reporter' job of yours. Sounds… interesting." His voice held a faint undercurrent of scepticism that sent a shiver down your spine.
Your smile was big. "It is, Dad! I get to meet incredible athletes, analyze the game from a different perspective, share the stories behind the players that make them human, not just statistics on a page…"
"The stories behind the players," your mother echoed, her perfectly manicured red nails tapping a rhythmic counterpoint against the tablecloth. "Like what, exactly? 'Football Star caught eating pizza before the big match'? Don't you think you could be using your talents for something… more important? A doctor, perhaps?"
The air hung heavy, the weight of their disapproval pressing down on you. "Mom, I love this job. It lets me be creative, connect with fans, capture the passion of the sport…"
"Creative?" Your mother mocked. "Medical school, that was clever. Imagine the impact you could've had as a doctor, Y/n, making a real difference in the world."
A heavy silence fell upon the table. Your mother pursed her lips, her disapproval a palpable presence. You glanced at your younger sister, Lily, who sat beside you, seemingly engrossed in her phone, like always.
"At least we still have Lily." Your father finally muttered, a hint of resignation in his voice. "She's on track to become a Lawer, just like we always hoped." His words, though apparently meant to be comforting, only deepened the depth that had grown between you and your family.
You sprawled on your bed, watching a random movie on TV. The awkward dinner had left a sour taste in your mouth, and the tension with Lily still crackled in the air. You sighed, a wave of exhaustion washing over you.
The door creaked open, and Clare poked her head in. Her usually bright eyes held a dark glint. "Can I please kill her?" she whispered, gesturing towards the living room where your sister was sleeping.
You chuckled, the sound echoing in the quiet room. "No, Clare, you can't kill her. She's still my sister, even if…" Your voice trailed off, searching for the right words.
Clare walked into the room, closing the door behind her and flopping dramatically onto the bed beside you. "Even if she's a… leech?"
A ghost of a smile played on your lips. "Something like that."
Clare propped herself up on one elbow, her gaze fixed on the flickering TV screen. "But seriously, why do you think she's here? The timing is awfully convenient, wouldn't you say."
You couldn't argue with that. "Maybe she just… missed me?" you offered, the doubt heavy in your voice.
Clare snorted, a skeptical eyebrow raised. "Honey, let's be real. Lily missing anyone besides her phone or free vacations? Not likely."
Her words were harsh, but they held a ring of truth. "So, what do you think she wants? You don't think…" you stammered, the unspoken question hanging heavy in the air.
"Think what?" Clare prompted, her gaze sharp. "That she's worried about the video being leaked, especially now that Mason plays for United and is practically your neighbour?"
You stared at the ceiling, the image of Mason's smile flashing before your eyes. The idea of Lily sabotaging your relationship with Mason once again filled you with a cold fury.
"Well," you finally said, your voice steely with resolve, "if that's her game, she's underestimated me. I won't let her hold this over my head anymore. It's my time to be happy."
Across the white tablecloth, Olivia's voice buzzed like a nervous bee. "So, my parents dragged me all the way from California to Manchester when I was eight. Talk about culture shock!" Her laugh, light and tinkly, didn't quite reach Mason.
His smile, felt heavy tonight. It was a mask hiding the knot of butterflies twisting in his stomach. The fancy lobster soup in front of him remained untouched, a sad contrast to the vivid picture playing on repeat in his head.
You! Your long hair illuminated by the warm sun, your eyes sparkling when talking about the things you liked and made you happy, your pink soft lips touching his. He could almost feel the warmth of your hands as they brushed against his cheeks, sending a shiver down his spine.
"It must've been tough." He said, moving uncomfortably in his chair.
Olivia, oblivious to his internal baggage, tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "It was, but Manchester grew on you, you know? There's just this… vibe here. It's electric."
Mason forced a chuckle. Vibe! His brother loved throwing that word around. It was probably the same way he'd described the blind date he had set him up with – "She's got this great vibe, Mase, you'll love her!" But that wasn't what he was feeling.
"So, Mason…" Olivia continued, her smile fading under his distracted gaze. "Tell me about yourself. Is there anything you're passionate about outside of football?"
Mason blinked, pulled back from the memory of your face by Olivia's question. "Uh, well, football obviously takes up a lot of my time, but…" He trailed off, his mind searching for something, anything, to fill the silence. However, he knew he should end the dinner soon, it was not fair to Olivia. Your image always in his mind, vibrant and passionate, made it hard to stay present. "Olivia..." he started.
Olivia's smile faltered slightly, but she recovered quickly. "No worries, Mason. It's clear we're not really on the same page. It's fine."
A real smile finally broke through on Mason's face as they said goodbye. After paying the bill and making sure Olivia got a cab, a wave of relief washed over him. He pulled out his phone, his heart pounding, as he typed a single message to Bruno: "Can you send me Y/n's number?"
The sunlight sliced through the gap in your curtains as panic jolted you awake. A frantic glance at the old clock you still had on your nightstand confirmed your worst fear. You were late. Way late.
Your phone lay lifeless on the nightstand after a tense dinner with Lily. No phone alarm, no clue what time you'd fallen asleep, no idea if you'd missed any messages or calls. Mostly, you worried about work. Being late wasn't your thing.
Throwing off the covers, you launched into a record-breaking morning routine. You put on the first thing you pulled from the closet and practically ran out of the room, searching for your coat.
A glance towards the kitchen caught you off guard. Breakfast sat on the table, a spread fit for a king compared to your usual morning routine.
"Good morning!" Lily appeared with a glass of orange juice in her hand. You couldn't help but wonder if you even had oranges in the house.
"Hi," you mumbled, pulling your hair into a messy ponytail. "What's all this?"
She smiled, clearly proud of herself. "Breakfast, silly! Sit down and eat something."
The tempting aroma tickled your nose, but you couldn't. "I can't. I'm already late." You reached for your coat, glimpsing out the window to see that it was raining.
"Oh, I hoped we could talk," Lily said, a hint of disappointment in her voice. "You know... without Clare around."
"I'll be back later. We can talk then. Now I really have to go." You grabbed your bag and everything you needed, throwing a hurried goodbye over your shoulder.
"Have a nice day."
Lily's words echoed in your ears as everything went wrong. You missed the bus, the rain hammered down as you stepped outside, and to top it all off, you'd left your phone uncharging at home in the morning chaos. By the time you finally reached your work, you were soaked to the bone.
When you were finally leaving work, one of your coworkers who witnessed your day of misfortune, took pity on you and offered you a ride home. At least something seemed to be going right.
Stepping inside the house, the clean, fresh scent greeted you like a warm hug. Lily sat on the couch, laptop open on her lap and a smile on her face.
"Hi, big sis! How did your day go?"
You wanted to scream the first words that came to mind: awful, the worst, horrible. Instead, you settled for a simple, "Busy!"
"Did you clean?" You asked, gesturing to the spotless living room. She nodded. "You didn't have to."
"It's the least I could do."
"Well, thanks." You took your coat, hanging it by the door. "I'm going to take a shower and then we can talk about what you wanted to talk about this morning."
"Okay."
In your room, you tossed your bag onto the bed and flopped down, staring at the ceiling. It had been a long time since a day had gone so wrong, and all you wanted was to sleep and erase it from your memory. But Lily still wanted to talk.
With a sigh, you got up and spotted your phone, still dead, lying on the nightstand where you'd left it. You grabbed the charged cable from your bag and connected them, a flicker of life returning to the screen as the battery symbol lit up.
Grabbing some fresh clothes, you headed to the bathroom, letting the warm water wash away the stress. You didn't know how long you stood there, but eventually, the water grew lukewarm, and you stepped out.
Back in the living room, you dropped onto the couch, the TV playing some random show Lily had left on.
"So, what do you want to talk about?"
Lily closed her laptop and faced you, her expression serious. You mirrored her posture, sensing the conversation was going to be serious.
"Okay, so, I have some news I haven't shared with you." Confusion clouded your face. She shifted slightly, a sign of nervousness. "Well, I have a boyfriend."
You smiled. "Lily, you're a grown woman, you don't have to tell me about your boyfriends."
She stood up and walked over, sitting on the coffee table in front of you. "This time I do have to tell you." Your silence encouraged her to continue. "You see, it's a serious relationship and... We're engaged!"
Your jaw dropped. You were happy, but deep down there was also a sense of jealousy. So, she was supposed to be happy but you weren't, you thought to yourself.
"I— I don't know what to say. Congrats!" You opened your arms for a hug, which she returned. "How— how long have you been dating him? I mean, what's his name?"
"His name is John. John Kingsley." Lily said a nervous smile on her face.
The name hung heavy in the air, a suffocating weight pressing down on you. Lily felt a sense of dread as she saw a flicker of recognition in your eyes, her nervous anticipation replaced by fear.
Blood roared in your ears, drowning out everything else. "Professor Kingsley?" you choked out, the words barely a whisper.
Lily's expression was replaced by a grimace of apology. "Yes!" She stammered. She knew the truth would explode, and the fear in your eyes was a reflection of her own.
"How could you?" you said, the anger you'd bottled up for three years finally bursting. "That video, of both of you, forced me away from Mason! He ruined my life!"
"It was not him that blackmailed us."
"Blackmail us? You mean Blackmailed me!" Tears welled up in Lily's eyes, but they did little to extinguish the fire in yours. "How could you even think about marrying-- How old is he?"
She'd known this anger was coming. She still remembered the fear and the disappointment in your eyes as you'd agreed to leave Mason and London behind.
"Y/n, I—" she started, but your voice cut through her like a knife.
"I had to leave Mason," you choked out, your voice thick with unshed tears. "I had to give up everything because of that video. And you're going to marry him?"
"Like I said, It wasn't him that blackmailed you."
The weight of your sacrifice, the years of unspoken hurt, crashed down on you like a tidal wave. "It doesn't matter, Lily! It was because of your video that they were able to blackmail me." You shouted. Lily reached for you, a silent plea for understanding, but you flinched away. "Don't touch me," you whispered, the words laced with ice.
"Y/n, please." she pleaded. "Let me explain."
"I don't want to hear it," you said, your voice trembling with the force you were trying to contain. "I want you to be happy, Lily. Seriously, I do. But I can't be a part of this. Not after everything you two did to me."
Without another word, you grabbed your coat and stormed out of the house. You slammed the front door shut, the rain hitting your face. Tears streamed down your cheeks, blurring the world around you. You didn't see the familiar car pull up in front of the house.
Mason.
He approached the house, unaware of your presence as you left the house. He quickly got out of the car, his concern etching on his face as he knocked on the door.
Lily opened the door, a flicker of surprise crossing both of their features.
"Ahm-- Lily?" He said, unsure of the name. He had only met her once and she didn't exactly look like that young girl anymore.
"Mason? Hi. What are you doing here?" She looked nervous and looked like she'd been crying.
"I've been trying to reach Y/n, but her phone is off. I needed to talk to her."
Lily's eyes darted nervously around, avoiding his gaze. "She's not home."
Disappointment clouded Mason's face. "Oh, okay. I guess I'll try her again later. Thanks anyway." He turned to leave, his shoulders slumped.
But before he could disappear into the rain, Lily spoke up. "Wait, Mason. Can I talk to you for a minute?"
He stopped, and a flicker of confusion appeared in his eyes. "Sure." Lily stepped aside, guiding him into the house.
Your breaths mixed in the quiet aftermath, soft sighs escaping your lips. Mason traced a finger along your cheek, his touch sending shivers down your spine.
"You know," he began, his voice husky with tiredness. "Spending time with you it's the best part of my day."
A shy smile bloomed on your face as you ran your fingers slowly on his chest. "Really?"
"Absolutely," he confirmed, his eyes searching yours. "I just... I really like you, Y/n. More than I thought possible."
Your heart skipped a beat. "I... I feel the same way," you confessed, your voice barely a whisper. "So," You murmured, your voice filled with unspoken hope. "What does that mean for us?"
He pulled you closer, his forehead resting against yours. "I think," He said, his voice gaining strength. "That maybe we should make things official. Be a couple, you know?"
Your eyes sparkled with joy. "I'd like that more than anything."
He leaned in, his lips brushing against yours in a tender kiss.
Pushing open the front door, you were greeted by an unfamiliar darkness. The dining table was illuminated by the soft glow of two flickering candles, casting the rest of the house into darkness.
"Clare?" you called out, your voice echoing in the silence. No answer. You reached out to find the light switch, but there was no light when you clicked it.
"Clare's not home." a voice startled you from the shadows.
You felt relieved at the familiar voice, and for a moment, the intense emotions you were feeling were pushed aside. "Mason? What are you doing here?"
He stepped closer, the candlelight painting his features in a warm glow. "Been trying to reach you since last night." You remembered your phone, still charging on the nightstand. "Lily opened the door for me." You looked around for any sign of her and Mason could tell. "She's also not here. She left." Good, you thought. "She told me everything. About the video, the blackmail... Why didn't you tell me?"
Tears welled up in your eyes, blurring the image of his concerned face. "I'm so sorry," you choked out, the apology tumbling from your lips before you could stop it.
He reached out, his fingers gently cupping your cheeks. "Why are you apologizing?"
"I shouldn't have ended things with you." You confessed, your voice thick with regret. "It was Lily's mistake. But then they blackmailed me and I couldn't... I did it to protect her. I had to."
His eyes softened with understanding. "I know. I understand." He said, his voice gentle. "Hell, I would have done the same for my family." The tears came harder then, a torrent of relief and regret. He pulled you close, his embrace a safe place in the darkness. You missed his hugs. "Don't cry, please." He murmured, his fingers stroking your hair. "It's okay."
"I'm sorry." You murmured against his chest. "I broke your heart and you didn't deserve it."
"Stop that." He whispered. "Look, romantic dinner by candlelight wasn't exactly the plan, but the power's out, so..."
A choked laugh escaped your lips. "I missed you. Every single day." You admitted, the words tumbling out before you could hold them back any longer.
His smile, illuminated by the flickering candlelight, was the most beautiful thing you'd seen in days. "I missed you more." He confessed, his voice husky with emotion.
He leaned in, his lips brushing against yours in a kiss that tasted of forgiveness, relief, and a love that had never truly died. It was a slow, and tender kiss, filled with unspoken promises of a future where nothing, not blackmail, not family drama, would ever tear you apart again. As you pulled away, his hand came up to cup your cheek, his thumb gently brushing away a stray tear.
"No more goodbyes, okay?" He said, his voice firm with resolve. "We'll face everything together. Always." You nodded, a new strength blooming in your chest. No more running, no more hiding.
He leaned in once more, his eyes searching yours. "Mason?" You murmured. "I love you. I always did."
"I love you too. Since the first moment that I saw you." You locked your arms around his neck and kissed him passionately. The future, with him by your side, was all that mattered now.

“okay so tell me again, why the fuck can anyone stand matt donovan?” your friend myra asked.
“um, no one can.” you laughed while putting away the cards to cards against humanity. it was game night for you and your friends plus the guy you’ve been talking to. your friends each brought their own little plus one to the game night this time making things more interesting.
“that's true!” your friend athena agreed. “okay are we gonna start truth or dare?”
you nodded and clapped excitedly. “yes yes! okay let’s start everyone get in a circle.” you said pulling the hand of rafael, your talking stage’s, hand.
“okay who wants to go first?” zoey asked sitting close to her friend nick.
“ill do the honors.” you spoke. “hmm, ryan truth or dare?” you asked. ryan is myra’s little hookup.
“uhh…ill do truth.” ryan said.
“hmm okay, what's your favorite thing about myra?” you ask eyeing myra mouthing a ‘you’re welcome’
“probably how she’s always in a good mood and she looks for the best in people,” he answers.
“awww ryyyy.” myra squeals giving him a kiss on the cheek.
“awww grosss but so cute.” zoey compliments. “okay i have one, y/n truth or dare?" she asks you.
"hmm, ill pick tru-" your answer gets interrupted by the ring of your house phone.
you go toward the phone picking it up slowly.
“hi! this is y/n speaking.” letting them know who picked up.
“i know who you are. y/n.” a weird voice spoke through the speaker. the voice sending chills down your spine.
“uh…okay…what did you need?” you questioned suspecting something was up immediately.
“what do i need hm?” the voice asked. “need you to open your front door.”
“is this some kind of prank call or joke? yeah well fuck off it’s not funny.” you immediately hung up. “fucking losers. prank callers.”
you rolled your eyes.
“they even used a voice changer how patheti-” the ring sounded again.
you were frustrated the phone calls were interrupting your game night so you picked up quickly so you could end it quickly.
“hello?!” you asked a little more aggressively.
“that was quite rude.” the same voice said.
“listen, you’re not funny. you’re actually very fucking annoying and ruining our night so go find someone else to fuck with.”
“aw baby it’s funnier with you.” they laughed. “hey y/n.” the way they said your name had you shivering.
“what the fuck do you want.” you asked.
“truth or dare.” they spoke.
you froze. how did they…
you immediately hung up.
your heart was pounding. that had to have been a coincidence right? there wasn’t any way they could’ve been on the line during that…or worse.
watching you?
knock knock
your head whipped toward the door.
“what the fuck?” you whispered to yourself.
“i got it.” ryan stood up walking toward the front door.
he disappeared in the hall and you heard the door open.
silence.
no voices, no chatter, laughter. nothing.
“r-ryan? who is it?” your voice choked. there was a pit in your stomach.
you heard the door slam closed causing you and the others to jump.
nothing for a few seconds before ryan fell.
a knife in his chest.
your eyes widened in fear. you were frozen unable to comprehend what you were looking at.
at first, you thought it had been a joke but the closer you got the more the smile you had on wiped from your face.
“o-oh my fucking god!” zoey screamed. “what the fuck what the fuck!”
“holy shit.” nick chokes fear seen on his face.
“no no no ryan!” myra screams in agony. “call 911 call 911!” she cries.
you quickly nodded turning back to the phone you had just walked away from but bumped into someone.
you stumbled back before making eye contact with a person with a ghost face-looking mask.
no words came from their mouth.
this time you didn’t freeze. all you did was run.
“run run run! come on!” you shouted causing the rest of the group to scatter and try to escape.
myra was still on the ground crying to ryan who had been gone for a while now.
you stopped, trying to pull myra with you. “myra come on please!” you cried.
she shook her head. “no i can’t leave him here!” she sobbed.
“myra! myra! come on we got-” before you could finish your sentence myra got grabbed by her hair and slammed so hard to the wall that when she fell down she was already gone. her head bleeding onto the hardwood floor.
“n-no!” you screamed in fear. you looked around to see if anyone else was around but all you were faced with were dead bodies. the rest of the group lying on the floor.
you then saw not one but two of the figures of what you saw earlier.
you were on the ground but tried to stand up. your legs so shaky all you could really do was scoot backward until you were met with the doorframe to the hall.
you shook your head pleading for them to spare you. “please please please don’t. don’t kill me, please. what do you want i’ll give you anything.”
you curled up, knees to your chest hiding afraid of what they would do to you.
silence on their end.
you didn’t want to look up afraid that would be the last thing you’d do.
“you’ll give us anything?” a deep voice said.
you lifted your head and made eye contact with a brunette with piercing blue eyes.
you were stunned not only because he was attractive but you’d think whatever did this wasn’t human.
“how much money i’ll…i’ll find a way. please just don’t kill me.” you cried.
the other took his mask off as well revealing blonde hair with the same piercing blue eyes.
“oh baby, we won’t kill you.” he stepped forward offering his hand.
the last thing you’d do was grab the hands of a killer.
“take my hand.” he said.
you shook your head starting to cry even more.
“i wasn't asking. wanna live or do you wanna die?” he demanded.
your lips were quivering as tears rushed down your cheeks.
reluctantly, you took his hand. he helped you up and led you to the couch to sit down.
“what’s your name pretty girl?” the brunette asked.
this was cruel. this was sick. they were asking you questions about yourself while your friends were lying around the room dead.
“what the fuck do you want from me?!” you screamed in their face.
the brunette was quick to grab you by your neck. “watch your tone, baby.”
you froze in fear silently gasping for air. not because he was choking you. no…he wasn’t even applying pressure it was because you were choking on your own sobs.
“what we want is to show you how sorry we are for killing your little friend group.” the blonde said placing his hand on your thigh. when you look down you notice splattered and dried blood on it.
“you’re fucking crazy. you’re crazy.” you repeated. “you need help.”
“then can you help us?” the brunette smiled. he treaded his knife down your other thigh.
you shook your head shutting your eyes quietly trying to control your cries.
“come on if you’re a good girl i promise we’ll make it worthwhile.” he winked kneeling down and nudging your right leg causing it to open up with the knife we was holding.
your heart raced faster and faster thinking about what he could mean by that.

I just really like the trope of Danny getting summoned, alright?
——
After he shoved Pariah Dark in his coffin shaped locker what what Danny hoped to be for all of eternity, the half unfortunately inherited all of Pariah’s responsibilities.
“What was it again? With great powers comes great responsibilities?” Danny let his head hit the table with an audible thunk. He’s in his “office,” the ghost zone’s approximation of where he might be able to do work seriously. The house- the extension of his haunt- had added the room right next to his bedroom. Danny had to lift all of the paperwork from Pariah’s castle (that’s now also a part of what’s considered Danny’s but he doesn’t think about that) and move it to his main haunt.
He prayed to the universe at large to let him off. Danny hated doing homework- science not withstanding because at least he understood that- let alone an asshole’s centuries worth of work. Danny bemoaned the fact that he was elected the King. He didn’t even defeat Pariah all by himself, so why couldn’t the others do it?!
Like a wave of merciful fate, the beginning tugs of a summoning pulled at his core.
“Thank Ancients!”
Danny scrambled to grab a sticky note, unfortunately glowing green as things tended to in the Ghost Zone, and scribbled down that he’s been summoned and to not look for him until his vacation work was done.
With that note done, Danny decided to bring his A game to the summoning. Allowing his secondary form to wash over him, Danny quickly checked the mirror to make sure he was presentable. A bright glowing ice crown- not the crown of fire, because it was essentially useless without the ring and Danny wasn’t keen on being a king, let alone a near infinitely powerful one- settled across his brow showed his status. A cape, this form’s best feature, made of an expanse of galaxies, nebulae, and frost cling at the end was swept over his shoulders and pinned together with a cloak pin made of clusters of black holes.
A couple of additions to his normal hazmat suit and his trusty thermos at his side, Danny all but dove into the summoning magic with an excited whoop of glee.
As Danny got closer to the magic-made portal, he could hear the whispers of the living presences beyond it.
His summoners! Hopefully it’s not a cult again, even if he thought they were pretty funny trying to summon the king of the dead to kill more people. Not funny “haha,” funny weird.
How should he do this…? Scary? Funny? Oh! Or maybe he should ditch the crown!
Danny grinned, waving his hand to dispel the crown of ice. It was nice, but he was in a dungeon critter mood today.
“Oh, this is going to be gooood.”
Danny cracked his knuckles and put on the most dead-inside-and-outside expression he could manage, modeling it off of the Nasty Burger workers during closing shift. The halfa stepped through the portal.
——
“The ritual is completed! You will all face the might of Pariah Dark, the eternal king of the dead!” The villain of the week cackled as his cult cheered. Wonder Woman, scuffed and injured from the magical bolts these magic users had shot at her earlier, grimaced and raised her sword.
“We will defeat Pariah Dark,” she proclaimed. Her allies rallied at her proclamation and readied themselves for another fight. “This world will not bow to the likes of you!”
“We are all but mere ants before the king of the dead! Pariah Dark will bring forth the reckoning this shitty world deserves!”
“Actually, Pariah Dark’s kind of busy, so you’re gonna have to leave a message.”
Green Arrow’s arrow jerked towards the new voice. Batman paused, hand holding batarangs at the ready. He, out of all of them, knew better than to underestimate a young voice.
A gloved hand shoved through the green portal, using the edges like a door frame to heave itself through. A humanoid shape, with sharp ears all but crawled out of the Lazarus green portal. Batman wondered if this was what Jason saw when he came back to life.
"Lord Pariah Dark is busy?!"
The figure- a boyish not-human- heaved a sigh. "Do you people seriously think that the High King of the Infinite Realms isn't swamped with work?"
"And who are you supposed to be? His secretary?" Hal asked, Ring glowing and at the ready. Wonder Woman tensed and mentally struck Hal away from the list of people to consider for diplomatic missions.
"Me? I'm a glorified paper pusher." The being turned back to the cultists, his cape containing the universe swished behind him. "Did you have a message for Pariah Dark?"
"He was meant to rain down death and destruction!"
"Okay, first of all, I feel like you guys are missing a really important point." The being pointed at the cult leader. “It’s not called the King of the Dead for no reason, you know. Death comes for everyone eventually. Also, I have to do a seriously giant amount of paperwork every time one of you fruitloops gets the bright idea to cause an influx of deaths.”
Danny stomped across the circle, grabbed the collar of the cultist leader’s cloak and yanked him down. He shook him. “Do you people have any idea how annoying it is?! Huh?! Do you know how long the A-354 Form is?! Stop trying to get Pariah to kill people! I’m sick of the paperwork, dammit!”
"How- how did you get out of the circle?!"
The cultists and the heroes squared up, ready to fight the possible common enemy: Danny.
Danny is having the best time of his half life. Screw kingly dignity, Danny’s gotta de-stress somehow! He had a whole bag of complaints!
"You wrote the circle wrong, idiots! Ancients, are you people even literate? What even are those scribbles?" Danny kept shaking the cultist. Wow, what an amazing stress ball!
“Uh- hey, he looks kind of sick…” The Flash said, trying to be a good hero and mediate before escalating. Danny snarled and Flash held up his hands, gulping in fear as Danny’s eyes narrowed at him. “Did I… do something?”
“You,” Danny hissed. “You mother- fruitloop! Stop screwing with the timeline, you giant red-! Do you know how annoying it is to readjust the death count every time one of you little merry red jesters takes a jaunt through time and space?! Do you even know how many complaints I had to field?! Oh, boy you’re all going to regret summoning me today, because I’ve had a long time to think about what I’d do to everyone who made me work overtime!”
Danny bared his teeth, eyes sparkling with mirth as he froze the cultists.
"We're not letting you take over the world," Hawk-Woman said, raising her mace that pulsed with electricity.
Danny snorted to hide his wince. "I'm not interested. Just let me punch him once. Just once." Danny pointed at the Flash.
"Honestly, I can't even blame you," Black Canary muttered, fists raised.
"Wha-! Canary! That's so rude! You traitor!"
"Shouldn't have put skittles in my shoes then. Those hurt, Flash."
"Enough." Everyone shut up at the sound of Batman's command. "What do you mean they wrote the circle wrong."
Danny, who was watching the byplay with interest, shrugged. "They wanted to summon the Ghost King, right? We've had a... change of leaders recently."
"Who is the leader now?"
Danny waggled a finger at Batman. "Nuh-uh. I'm gonna collect my over-time compensation, which is punching the Flash, and then we can negotiate for information."
"Flash."
"I don't want to get punched, Bats!"
"The alternative is that I let the current Ghost King have a go at you."
"Flash."
"Oh my god, just get punched, Barry!" Danny heard Green Lantern Hal Jordan whisper.
"Ugh, fine. No one video this."
Immediately, three phones go up to record the Flash getting decked by a teenage looking ghost. Danny floated closer and wound his fist back, letting loose some of the ghost strength he normally keeps restrained. "This is for my overtime and for Clockwork, you jerk."
The halfa slammed his fist straight into the Flash's face, knocking him clear into the air. Superman catches him but Danny no longer paid attention to the Flash, petty vengeance enacted.
"Honestly, I don't have a problem with you as a person. You're kind of cool. Break the timeline again in the next three months, though, and you're on my shit-list."
"What do you want in exchange for information?"
Danny hummed. "Depending on the level of information, and I reserve the right to not answer any questions. For the name of the current Ghost King..."
He did want that new gaming console. And Jazz could use some help with her rent.
"I want $5,000 and a plate of really good spaghetti."
"I have cash."
Danny nodded at the Dark Knight. "You just carry $5,000 in cash on you? Who does that?"
"I like to be prepared."
"And he's rich," Superman chimed in.
The Flash reappeared with a plate of spaghetti from an Italian place he teleported to. "Here you go. Fresh, and pleasedon'tscrewwithmyafterlife."
Danny shoveled the spaghetti into his mouth, jaw unhinging like a particularly disturbing snake right before he dumped the whole thing- plate and all- down his throat. "Thanks! The food didn't even try to kill me this time! You're good."
"Does your food try to kill you all of the time?!" The Flash- Barry, apparently- asked.
Danny nodded as he took the cash from Batman's gloved hands. "Totally. It sucks."
"Identity." Batman demanded.
"Oh, yeah. The current ghost king is me."
"...What."
"You have been swindled. Bamboozled. Outwitted and outsmarted," Danny snickered, shoving the bundle of cash in his chest. "But seriously, I'm the king. We got rid of Pariah a while ago."
The crown of ice materialized.
"You said you were a glorified paper pusher!" Hawk-Woman chortled.
"I am! I'm pushing so many papers across my desk, it's unending, I swear!"
Batman growled. "You tricked us."
Danny smirked, "You got tricked." Red Robin, in the corner, snorted quietly. "Anyways, if you've got more interesting things around here, I'll considering busying myself with that instead of sentencing you to an afterlife of paperwork."
The adults straightened, grimacing. "Beast Boy is green," Hal offered up.
"Hey!" Beast Boy shouted, offended at the easy way Hal offered him up. He turned to Danny. "But have you ever seen a green chinchilla? Super cute. Watch!"
"Woah!" Danny clapped. Yes, he'll hang out with them before dragging himself back.
