There are no more heroes.

Well, okay. Rewind a bit.

Danny has been doing the hero thing for a while now. He’s had a big reveal; everyone has accepted him (including his parents), the GIW disbanded, the Anti-Ecto acts repealed, and generally, everything is going great. Some of the A-Listers are even training as junior ghost hunters to help give him a break from his rogues! (Being Ghost King makes things hectic sometimes, and he just needs the extra help. Sue him!)

The point is, literally nothing is wrong with Danny Phantom’s afterlife.

And then Valerie Gray, the Red Huntress, disappears in front of his eyes.

Danny is baffled! She’s just…gone! Valerie just popped out of existence, like she was never there. But no matter how hard he searches in the Ghost Zone, he can’t find her soul anywhere. His core isn't broken in grief. So she’s not dead. Which is good. So then, where is she?

Some of the others come forward with ideas on how to find her. A few ghosts volunteer to go out into the mortal realm, an area Danny had declared off-limits, to see if she was out there. Danny approves it. He rounds up some of the friendlier (i.e., discreet) ghosts and Amity Parkers and demolishes the outside travel ban.

So everyone spreads out, looking for their dear frenemy and teammate. But it becomes apparent very quickly that something is wrong with the rest of the world.

There are no more heroes.

Every single living superhero on the face of the Earth has just…vanished. Villains are running amok; the countries are in chaos! Some aliens are invading Earth, mythical deities are trying to take over, and society is crumbling to the ground. Everything is on the brink of collapse.

Well, Danny was still there. And so were his people. They were pretty spread out, so could they just…take up the mantles? He also knew where to find the souls of dead heroes in the Zone; surely they wouldn't mind coming out of retirement for a little bit, especially if they couldn't die again. Oh! And that skeleton army leftover from Pariah Dark's reign might be useful in repelling those invading forces.

Honestly, there were more than enough hands to go around! And with the heroes gone, Danny didn't mind letting everyone out for a little break, as long as they followed his rules. They wouldn't stop the search for the other heroes, but hopefully, when they found them, the heroes wouldn't mind Danny's intervention too much. :)

In other words:

Someone fucks up, and all of Earth's living heroes are either wished out of existence or are whisked away to some far-off realm where Danny hasn't checked yet. In the attempt to figure out what's going on, Danny lets the dead run amok over the Earth as they search for clues. The skeleton army repels the invading armies, the souls of dead heroes deal with the world leaders, and his rogues and other Amity Parkers set up shop in place of famous heroes, trying to get the cities under control again.

Basically, they just do their best to keep everything from imploding until the Justice League and others are back.

(And why is it that Danny hasn't disappeared? Well, whatever caused everyone to go poof! only affected living heroes. Anyone heroes that were dead in the first place, or even just half-dead, stayed behind.)

"hey there," Derek said, walking towards you "how are you doing sweetheart?"

you were drinking a cup of coffee in the kitchen when you heard his voice.

"Hey there darling" you grinned "I'm fine, how are you?"

"Better now that I've seen you" he smirked, making you roll your eyes jokingly.

Fake flirting with Derek was always fun, it was a fundamental part of your friendship, and plus, you just loved seeing the confusion on people's faces when they found out he wasn't your boyfriend, but Spencer.

You had dialed it down since you got into the relationship, Derek never dared to do it when Reid was close, he felt it was disrespectful or something, and you had agreed, even if you didn't really understand the problem.

It was all fake, it wasn't like you actually liked each other.

"I was looking all over for you," he said "you had me worried baby girl" he had that low voice he used when picking up girls, and you couldn't help but smile.

"oh, I'm sorry baby" you put a hand on his bicep "I'll text you next time I have to get coffee" he grinned "I promise" you pouted.

"you better" he raised his eyebrows "and I'm gonna come get it for you" he added "no need for a pretty lady like you to have to get up when I'm around" he tilted his head.

"What a gentleman" you joked, "and here I was thinking chivalry was dead"

"not to me it isn't" he smirked, and you laughed softly.

"so why were you looking for me?" you asked, taking a sip from your mug.

"I just wanted to see this pretty face," he said, putting a lock of hair that had fallen in front of your eyes behind your ear.

"of course" You smiled "and?"

He gave up, now smiling too "and I also needed you to have a look at these files," he said, holding up a folder.

"yep, that's more like it" you nodded, before furrowing your browns like you were suspicious "though, are we sure that's not just an excuse to be close to me?"

He laughed softly "oh, I don't need an excuse to do that sweetheart," he said with the most exaggerated flirty voice you'd ever heard and you couldn't help but laugh, a bit too loudly maybe.

"hey "

You didn't even notice that Spencer had walked up to you before you heard his voice coming from your left.

"oh hey baby" you smiled

"hey spencer" Derek nodded at him

"so what were you laughing about?" he forced a smile, as he put his hand on your back.

"Oh you know, just Derek being silly" you waved him off.

"Yes" Derek agreed "you know me, man," he said, immediately regretting it "anyway" he cleared his throat "I'll just leave these on your desk" he raised the folder again.

"perfect"

"All right" he chuckled awkwardly "back to work," he said, before walking back to his desk.

As soon as Derek turned away Spencer pulled you in for a kiss, which was weird, considering how he didn’t like being affectionate at work.

You melted into his touch as he put his hands on each side of your waist, and you had to sit your mug on the counter to not make a mess.

You smiled as he leaned away "to what do I owe the pleasure?"

"nothing" he pecked your lips again "you're just very beautiful" and again "I just thought I should tell you"

You laughed softly "You already told me this morning"

"w-well I wanted to tell you again" he blushed.

You bit down a smirk "alright"

"so" he cleared his throat "what were you and Derek talking about?"

You frowned "why?"

"You-" he gulped "you just seemed very amused"

"I was" you shrugged

"y-yeah but like why?"

You gasped, as your eyes widened in realization "Doctor Spencer Reid" you said, "are you- jealous?"

He was now blushing even more.

"no, I'm not I just-"

"do not lie to me, Spence"

He sighed, avoiding your eyes "fine" he admitted "I was, a little"

"baby" you placed your fingers on his chin, making him look at you "you have nothing to worry about," you reassured him "I love you Spence" you stood on your tiptoes to kiss him briefly "you know that"

His lips twitched into a shy smile but you could still see some uncertainty in his eyes "I do know that" he said "but it's not you I'm worried about"

You laughed "what, Derek?" you asked, incredulous, "baby he jokes, he doesn't mean the things he says"

"That's what you think," he said "you don't see how he looks at you" he explained "or how diffrent he is with you"

"Spence" you sighed "he's a friend"

"but maybe that's not all he wants to be"
