I was thinking about representation... If straight people were underrepresented, Imagine Me & You would be called a straight movie. It’d be the exact same movie, no genderswapping or anything. People would be like “have you heard of this movie, it has a straight man in it!” And you’d say yes, but he gets cheated on, and his wife leaves him for a woman. And they’d answer “well at least he doesn’t die, and you know what, he shares a Moment with a woman at the end of the movie. I’ve seen her play straight before.”

More progress on Square Legs

Sup gamers, gamerettes, and game people.  Miles here back at it again with the shizzy rpg maker stuff.

First item of business.  I bought aesprite.  Because of this the color pallet of the game is going through some tweaks and receiving some overall visual touch-ups.

As you can see I’ve changed up a lot of the colors, as well as added a cool lil parallax thingy to the trees.  I hope these changes aren’t too jarring.  Lemme know if you prefer the old or the new!

In other news a new map is in the works!  Here’s an early look at an amusement park place you get to visit during your quest!

I’m trying to see if I can somehow make the roller coaster ride-able but no promises.

Finally my most exciting news.  New characters are on the way!  Including a new party member!

Meet Triangula

Triangula is a butch lesbian fighter class with two arms and no legs!

Twice the punch and none of the walk!

I’m hoping with this addition I can add more diversity to the cast of characters in a way that is un-offensive or pandery!  I’m also wanting to add a dating feature to this game.  Because Square Legs and Circle Girl are both BI, they will have plenty of options within their party to choose from.  (Spoiler alert, Rovarli WILL be a party member).  This means you can play one session of the game where square and circle date each other and another session where cirlce and triangula date eachother and square and rovarli date each other.

This is all super ambitious and I worry some of it will fall through the cracks or will straight up be scrapped from the game.  In the event that I were to get rid of this feature, which relationship path would yall prefer to see?  Just to be clear if Circle and Square get together, rest assured there WILL be companion characters for Rovarli and Triangula to get with, so either way there will still be some gay/lesbian representation goin on here!

I’M SO SORRY FOR PUTTING THIS IN THE TAGS but I just have to share this queer ass fantasy novel with my fellow VLD queers because we’ve been through a lot LOL. Who knows what’s going to happen during the last season (*cough* Klance? *cough* R.I.P. Adam. Hi Shiro.) but I feel so much better because I found this underground series.

OMG AHHHH!!! So… I read this. Everyone is literally queer. I am so excited to see where the characters’ stories go in the rest of the series. It’s a good balance of positivity and real life shit.

I’m sorry. I just had to share this with everyone because VLD f***** me up HAHAHA… I know this series is going to quench my queer thirst and not bait me OMG. It’s also not LGBT categorized meaning it’s just a regular fantasy book with queer characters of color. BLACK QUEER CHARACTERS. AHHHH. THE MAIN CHARACTER IS ALL TYPES OF QUEER OMG. BISEXUAL AND GENDERFLUID!!! WHAT?!?!? WITH THEIR SOULMATE BEING DEMI-BI AND GENDERFLUID!!!!! AHHHH. YES THE AUTHOR IS BLACK AND QUEER.

WARNING. This book is pretty unique regarding formatting. SO MUCH INTERESTING DIALOGUE. Also… I think it’s flaws just give it more character. OMG. Thank you. I WANT THE NEXT BOOK ALREADY!!!

Also, the book is unique in that it’s mainly dialogue (very good dialogue BTW) and yes, there is slang and profanity. According to the narrator, it’s only an intro to what’s to come...

Now I’m watching gameplay of tlou 2 (I just started!!) and was like... wowzer, she’s a big big lesbian (I mean i know it’s not that important, I hope that game turned out as great as the first part, but I love Ellie and I’m very excited to see what’s coming next. guess who’s back 💃

i got my main twitter acc back so i’ve been mostly on there! but i figured i should pop on with news of the monster high reboot! so far there’s a confirmed live action movie musical, and an animated tv series, both with nick. dolls have also been hinted by the monster high twitter!

really hoping for clawdeen to be canonically lesbian! i know it’s been confirmed by garret but it would be so wonderful to see it actually in the content. the press release announcing the movie and show did a lot of talking about diversity and representation, so i think we have a shot! and both are being produced with nickelodeon, who have their fair share of LGBTQ+ characters already, so it’s a possibility for sure!

the release only mentioned draculaura, frankie, and clawdeen, but i’m assuming that we’ll still have the other main ghouls as well (hopefully ghoulia?). would be great for ghoulia to be played by an autistic actress! i’m a bit scared for casting in general, but like i said the press release had a lot of emphasis on accurate representaion, so i’m hoping for the best.

i have a lot more thoughts but i’ll spare you all. if you’re looking for more information i can’t recommend melissa’s livestream enough! it weirdly calmed a lot of the worries i had about doll quality and casting and such.

Everyone keeps talking about bi erasure when it comes to women in relationships with men but I feel like there's a huge erasure of bi women in wlw relationships in media representaion. Most of the skam remakes (except skamfr and Espana) have bisexual women make out with women in parties and only date men with a little lipservice to their sexuality because hetero-presenting couples are most lucrative than wlw. They can get away with sexualising wlw (like og) and also don't have to put in the work of potentially alienating lesbophobes and misogynists but still get points for queer representation. And for me, the worst offender of this was Druck, who constantly pushed miana for their wlw audience, had that kiss and the whole "are you REALLY a lesbian" plotline...all of which do amount to queerbaiting despite the two horrible "is that why you're bisexual?" lines. Ofc much of the fandom don't want a cishet white woman after their treatment of queer folks/poc, and would be rightfully a little wary considering the spoilers. Like you can have all those other plotlines they want to explore and still have made Nora queer- a wlw, asexual, trans, intersex, anything really (or a woc not related to their racist fav).

About your earlier post about representation in animated kids shows: I agree that there needs to be more, but it's unfair to blame the creators for that. They are pushing as hard as they can, but the studio executives are cowardly. Hell, Rebecca Sugar had to threaten to walk off the show just to include the stuff that IS there. Frankly, it's a miracle that we got even THIS much. Which is really goddamn sad, considering how little it is. But that's the reality of working with major studios.

i have to disagree. i do respect Sugar for threatening to walk out, and i do respect her for making it so that Ruby and Sapphire’s wedding was both unavoidable and not up for interpretation as to what Ruby’s gender was due to her wearing the dress. but otherwise her attempts at representation are weak. Stevenson’s aren’t much better.

here’s the thing - there are two other shows who threw in explicit lgbt+ representaion on Nick and CN, this being Craig of the Creek (never watched it, but i saw that clip everyone went crazy over) and Loud House. CotC had a black woman explicitly say the word “girlfriend” (she’s also a human, not an alien rock). and i have to ask,,, why is this show able to get away with this, but apparently SU can’t get away with even saying the word “wife” in their wedding episode?

as for Loud House, they had an entire episode dedicated to a date between two girls; the date was explicitly mentioned.

look, i’m not in Stevenson’s or Sugar’s shoes. i don’t know what they have to put it with when fighting for representation. but clearly Sugar is willing to be able to put up a fight, at the very least. maybe she should use that power for more good rather than hiding representation behind metaphors and space crystals.

i’ll say it again and again while slamming my hands on the desk. i’m sick and tired of accepting scraps as a meal. i’m sick of tired of tumblr calling a lesbian kiss happening right at the end of a show being “groundbreaking”. perhaps we, as the audience, should stop sitting down and accepting a crap excuse of representation, when we deserve so much more than that.

again, i don’t know what the creators are going through. but i have to ask, why can the writers of those aforementioned shows get away with such explicit representation (and i’m aware the writer of the Loud House episode is a cishet man?) when shows driven by lgbt+ creators seemingly can’t even say the word “girlfriend”?

the fact that we still have to settle for such a bare minimum isn’t just sad, it’s fucking insulting. i am literally just begging the writers, the executive producers, anyone with any sort of power to just stop settling for subtext. we deserve more than that. and if i sound salty in this little ramble.... i’d say i am rightfully salty.

I hope more content producers cut deals with Netflix like Alex Hirsch

so many of them have become vocal about wanting to correct the lack of LGBT characters, which in some cases they’ve succeeded in doing (but only with Lesbian representaion so far)

yet it seems only Alex realized that if he truly wanted an environment where he can produce anything he wants and not have to worry about his actual vision being tampered and meddled with to make a more generic, homoginized and homophobic product, that he should cut a deal with Netflix who currently has no BS&P restrictions and more or less allows it’s showrunners to put anything on there so long as it’s not illegal in some way

the only way we’re EVER going to get an animated story with a male/male romance is through netflix.......but so far nobody seems to actually WANT to create a series with a focal male/male love story,

I would if I could but I don’t have the money, writing experience or connections to make such a story ever be possible, I’m just a struggling gay artist with a tumblr page who hates being lied to by shows that claim to be progressive then try to pass off old school hollywood movie code era homophobia as gay representation, and isn’t afraid to gripe about it

Though truthfully 90% of the books I read now wouldve been too much for my small town, early 2000s-lack-of-representaion brain.
