Part 2
The shackles drag across the floor, filling the space with the clanking of the metal against marble. The hall is dark but warm enough to make the chained creature shiver from thermal shock, numbness being replaced with pain as his white fingers start growing red. He fists his hands, pressing his trembling lips into a thin line to dissociate from the sensations rushing through his body.
Once they reach the middle of the hall, the guards step back, allowing his body to sag to the cold floor. It’s nothing compared to the snow that he was buried in.
Someone enters the room - he can hear the guard speaking but fails to discern words. His brain must be shutting down. He uses the last of his strength to lift his head when one of the guards nudges his shoulder.
The man in front of him is already staring at him, his expression nothing short of austerity. He looks to be in the second half of his life, grey streaks lining his temples and forehead, but his features have not yet lost their sharpness. There is a small scar on the underside of his chin, only visible under intent observation, and a much more noticeable crown on his head. Oh, no.
“What are you?” The King’s voice is tense. His hand rests on the pommel of his sword, never leaving, even when he reaches out to tilt the creature’s head up with his other one. The captive gulps, afraid to speak or meet the King’s intense gaze. “What is your purpose in my land? Answer.”
“I-” he tries, but his throat seizes, clumping in to try and swallow himself up. He coughs, facing the floor once again, lips coated in blood from a wound no doubt inflicted by the guards trying to detain him. The guard on his side steps back, scared of the dark crimson poision dripping down his chin. “I didn’t know I shouldn’t be here... I didn't know where I was.”
The King raises an eyebrow at that, not convinced by the act. His kingdom has lived in peace for over eight years - ever since he reached an agreement and outlawed vishaps from entering his land. In return, humans were banned from crossing into Vishap territory for fear of never returning, which was the least of all evil for the safety of his people and, most importantly, his family. The King sighs, rubbing his temples in slow circles.
“He was found half-buried under the snow right by the Edge,” the guard that captured the young creature informs. “He did not shift when attacked.”
This caught the King by surprise, which was written quite obviously in his features. He glanced at the guard before returning his attention to the young creature still slumped at his feet. It looked young - perhaps nine or ten years of age. Too young to be sent after him or be capable of inflicting significant harm. Vishaps did not tend to leave their younglings alone if they couldn't shift yet. Unless his parents were not in the picture, that is. “What is your name, child?”
“Vanki,” His voice comes out weaker than he intended, so with another cough, the creature repeats. “My name is Vanki.”
“Vanki,” the King repeats with a nod. He motions for one of the guards to lift the boy from the floor. The guard practically picks him up, supporting him as he stands, bone-weary from days of running and hiding in the woods with no proper food or rest. Vanki doesn’t know where they are taking him, but an unconscious fear settles in the pits of his empty stomach. He knows he is too weak to put up any fight. Damn, he was too weak to so much as move when the snow started falling, so all he did was roll to the side and hug himself to keep whatever warmth he had left in his sinking heart.
“I didn’t know,” Vanki claims, panic flashing in the depths of his dark eyes. His eyes dart to the King’s face, who looks at him quizzically. “I wasn’t aware I was trespassing.”
The guard hisses for him to be quiet, but Vanki shakes his head no. He has no strength to struggle against his chains or captors, but he won’t go down without a fight if it’s the last thing he does.
“I was lost.” It comes more pleading than he intended, but that can be attributed to the frailty of his voice. Or so he hopes.
“No.” The King’s answer is plain and straightforward, his voice void of emotion. It sends a chill down Vanki's spine.
“Please,” he hates himself for begging, but the prospect of being executed or, worse, thrown into a dungeon to be tortured for public entertainment gnaws at his side, threatening to rip his ribcage open and wrench his heart out. As it is meant to be.
“You weren’t lost, you were running from someone," the statement catches Vanki off guard. The King’s tone is even, but there is something in his eyes that the boy fails to decipher. “Other vishaps chased you out. Isn’t that right?”
Stunned into silence, Vanki struggles to answer right away, terrified of what his reply may entail. The King approaches him again, standing so close that the boy can see the small scar under his chin again. He wonders if it’s one of his kind that gave it to him.
“Well?” The King prompts, cupping the boy's jaw with a warm hand. His fingers are rough but his touch is featherlight, careful not to hurt. Vanki can only muster a short nod, his eyes getting watery at the contact. For a moment, he envisions his misfortune retreating. The King sighs, seeming satisfied with the answer. “Take him away.”
“I didn’t harm anyone.” Whatever was left of the boy's resolve shatters in an instant. Not paying him any mind, the King waves a hand, and that movement stirs something within Vanki - something feral, something animalistic, something dangerously close to his true nature. With a desperate cry, he hauls away from his captors, yanking at the chains until the shackles loosen around his wrists. “I didn't do anything! You can’t just kill me... you can't!”
“Kill you?” The King turns around with an incredulous look adorning his face. He almost chuckles at the suggestion, shaking his head in disbelief.
“Let me go, please,” Vanki can feel his eyes watering again, and his voice is a whisper by the end of the sentence. Misfortune grips his limbs with renewed vigour, marks the skin on his forehead with a sharp kiss that makes him hiss, baring his teeth. “Please.”
“You have nowhere to go,” the King notes, correctly so. He has nowhere and no one to go to - having escaped the Vishap territory and stepped into the land that considers him nothing but an animal, a monster, a god too vicious to trust. “But you can stay here.”
Vanki isn’t sure if he heard it right, but the King looks as stern as when he first came in, albeit with less hostility in his gaze. At a loss for words, he doesn't have a chance to object when the King speaks again. “So I can keep an eye on you,” he explains before waving the boy away and departing the room.
Vanki is still processing the situation at hand as he is led across the hall and along dimly lit corridors of the castle. It’s too early in the morning for anyone to be awake yet, so they meet no one on the way to the spacious room allocated to him.
The guard walks him in, only stopping to inform the boy that a servant has filled a warm bath for him and left food on his bedside table. He then bids him a good night and locks the door, leaving Vanki alone and utterly confused. He cannot comprehend why or when all of this was arranged for him, but none of that matters when he lowers his aching body into the warmth of the bath, his head lolling back at the sheer pleasure of his element enveloping him. It takes only fifteen minutes for it to soak his bones, healing all of the cuts and bruises littering his skin.
Vanki has no way of knowing what is going to happen in the morning or what the King intends to do to him. He doesn't know if he will be allowed to stay or handed back to his kind. He can't even tell if he is a prisoner or a guest. The only thing he does know is that he is safe, warm and sated. Even if only for a night.
Part 2
Lore: Vishaps are serpent-like dragons in Armenian mythology, closely linked to water. They were seen as guardians or spirits of water sources that lived for thousands of years. They lived in the mountains or beneath lakes and had shape-shifting abilities. Vishaps' blood was believed to be deadly poisonous.
Author's note: This is based on the beautiful request by @annablogsposts.
Thank you so much for this, I enjoyed it incredibly ♡ As I've mentioned in my first reply, it corresponds greatly with my WIP novel and I took the liberty of aligning it even more. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did but even if you don't, feedback is welcomed.

i love how in enkanomiya the prophecy of the hydro dragon ( & the rest of the sovereigns eventually ) coming back was seen as a bad omen since the fear was that the moment the hydro dragon returned then it would begin to lay waste on humanity ( who was not at fault for the war with the primordial one as they were fruits of that by extension ), but now there's nothing to worry about because furina ( whole furina ) took it upon herself to get this hermit dragon integrated into society & took advantage of his disinterest & indifference to shift it into a more positive direction & prevent it from getting negatively influenced somewhere else or by something or someone else.

About some characters’ possible incarnations in previous samsaras
So Teyvat is trapped in a cycle, is constantly going through samsaras, and reincarnation really is all but confirmed now apparently.
Tumblr media
A lot of people jumped to point at Childe and Parsifal, then speculate which other historical figures could also be his previous incarnations.
Tumblr media
Childe's case is really, really interesting, but I wanted to bring up another character that also seems to be pulled into this samsara vortex somehow - Itto.
(This is gonna be long and have A LOT of reaches and speculations.)
Let’s look at Akuou (Touzannou) from Watatsumi Island. We don't have confirmation on which species he actually belonged to, but from what information we have on him, he would most likely be either a vishap hybrid, or an oni. He was described as “the wicked fangs and claws of the Great Serpent, the savage, demonic invader of Yashiori Island”. “‘Fangs and claws of the Serpent” makes it sound like he was a vishap, but I think him being called “demonic” is a more important characterisation here. The name ‘Akuou’ also may be a reference to the legends of Akuro'ou - “an ancient demonic warrior in the Japanese folklore who fought against the imperial court”, so again, demonic, an oni. And, well, oni also have claws and fangs, but I did have to mention that this guy could be a lizard person instead.
If we assume that Touzannou was an oni, we can start to notice a lot of coincidences pile up. First, Touzannou’s personality seems to resemble Itto’s - he was reckless, boastful, presumptuous, but very kind. Not the brightest mind, as it’s said that “his strength was his only strength". He came up with his own fighting styles that are still passed down on Watatsumi. Itto’s fighting style is his own as well:
Tumblr media
(I love Itto so much man.)
Touzannou fought the Tengu Sasayuri and was called Akuou  - “Wicked King”; Kokomi’s Everlasting Moonglows story mentions it like that:
Tumblr media
Itto’s Redhorn tells a story about an “Otogi King”, who was boisterous and boastful too. And that’s where it gets weird, please walk with me. One of Itto’s passive talents is getting more wood, and if we look at how the trees are distributed on the map, the VAST majority of the Otogi trees are found on Yashiori Island.
Tumblr media
As already mentioned, Yashiori was invaded by Orobashi and his people 2000 years ago, and ultimately became the resting place for Akuou (Touzannou) and shrine maiden Mouun, a very important figure I’ll talk about later. 99% of Itto’s story quest also happens to take place on Yashiori.
A cornplate detail, but Itto was also at Nazuchi Beach (Yashiori Island sub-area) in his dedicated album posted on genshin’s youtube channel. The ost playing on Nazuchi Beach is called Stranded Wish, which is quite an interesting name choice for a place that suffered so much tragedy and war.
Tumblr media
(This is also actually a Watatsumi ship, as mentioned by an npc we can talk to there)
Tumblr media
Speaking of Watatsumi, Itto’s most obvious connection to it is through Gorou, as he is his dedicated support. The less obvious connection is his similarities with Akuou, and some things involving Kokomi. Sure, his quest is only accessible after you complete Kokomi’s, and their signature artifacts in the same domain, but her involvement seems to run a bit deeper than that.
You see, the whole thing that started it all is Akuou being mentioned in Kokomi’s donut. At first I thought it’s actually the same guy from the Redhorn, because their description was so similar, basically just ‘evil king that fights a tengu’. But it was exactly this description that made me notice some interesting pattern of interconnected characters.
2000 years ago: Akuou the Evil King, Mouun the shrine maiden and Tengu Sasayuri.
500 year ago: Tengu Reizenbou, Asase Hibiki and Ako Domeki.
Present day: Arataki Itto, Kokomi, and Kujou Sara.
Take a look at depictions of Asase Hibiki (left) and Mouun (right) from the TCG cards:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their haircuts seem to be identical, with the hair color being the only difference. Better yet, it's also similar to Kokomi's haircut.
The oni from their respective time periods (or samsaras) are named Akuou, Ako and Arataki. Inconsequential, but interesting.
Let’s take a look at Ako Domeki, and speculate a little (or a lot). Both Akuou and Itto had conflicts with a tengu, but Ako seemingly didn’t. But, since he’s 500 years back on the timeline, it puts him on the same time period as Tengu Reizenbou and the ‘otogi king’ from Itto’s redhorn. There is a slight chance that this ‘otogi king’ was actually Ako Domeki post Serai and Golden Apple, but there’s nothing really to prove or disprove this, apart from the fact that they both have similarities with Akuou and Itto.
Another thing that could possibly have something to do with Ako Domeki are those weird oni symbols scattered around Watatsumi. These symbols are connected to Rinzou's Treasure world quest - you look for pirate treasure, and find Rinzou’s letter where he talks about his life.
Tumblr media
This “outlander king” inspired Rinzou to leave Watatsumi when he grew up. And, it’s interesting that he chose an oni mask as his insignia when he left Watatsumi. If this old man was the reason for him to go into the world to seek adventure at sea and become a pirate, it would make sense for his insignia to be inspired by this old man. Which would make him an oni.
Could this be Ako Domeki, an oni pirate, that inspired another person to become a pirate? It’s far-fetched, but again, as we don’t have any confirmation for the end of Ako Domeki story, it could have really been him.
Tumblr media
Getting back to Akuou and Mouun. Mouun’s name has a very interesting possible origin:
Tumblr media
Kokomi’s ‘slumbering dragon’ constellation comes to mind here.
Mouun was friends with a great 900 year old whale called Daikengyou.
Tumblr media
They both were slain during the Yashiori Island invasion. But, the fact that this whale managed to live for so long almost definitely means that it was no ordinary whale - perhaps it was the same creature as the All Devouring Narwhal.
Meanwhile Kokomi had a whale in her demo, which should definetly raise some red flags.
Tumblr media
Akuou was taught different rituals by Mouun and her sister Ayame, including an art of whalesong. Interestingly enough, Itto is a very good singer apparently:
Tumblr media
So, in light of recent developments with whales in the main story, I don’t really think that this art of ‘whalesong’ was something connected to ordinary marine life, it’s too specific now. Given that Orobashi was actively opposing Heavenly Principles, I won’t put it past him and his followers to be involved with the likes of Surtalogi that keeps celestial whales as pets.
Last thing, the books about Akuou and Mouun, as well as about other Watatsumi dealings (Debates on the "Viceroy of the East", A Preliminary Study of Sangonomiya Folk Belief, The Life of Mouun the Shrine Maiden, and more) are not in the book archive, but in the quest items. Must be important.
So, let’s round things up. Akuou, Ako Domeki, Arataki Itto, all with similar sounding names, are boisterous, kind oni, that all have mentions of being called ‘kings’ (Itto’s ult is called ‘raging oni king state’), all have some ties to Yashiori Island (Ako Domeki is mentioned on a note on Nazuchi Beach, and if the Otogi King and him really were the same person, there’s Yashiori having the most otogi trees in Inazuma), all being exceptional fighters, all having ties to a notable tengu and a shrine maiden, that also have connections to characters taking on the same role from a different time periods.
Ako Domeki is up in the air, but Akuou and Itto really do seem to be connected somehow.

“a certain someone”
my immediate assumption is zhongli, right? u know mr rex lapis himself with an infallible memory. the man the myth the legend, mr morax sir
so ur telling me
mr man saw the creation of the world
i know he’s old but like Goddamn putting it into context like that Hell
i’m taking this to mean the creation of teyvat as we know it. the human realm. not the light realm aka the elemental realm aka the vishap realm
there’s a story somewhere in one of the books about the solar chariot that fell from the sky and created the chasm. i saw a theory one time about zhongli being a piece of that chariot. but the story itself phrases it as something like “when rex lapis was still young, the solar chariot fell” so i kinda shrugged that one off But technically he would still be young if he was apart of the chariot lmao
pretty sure the legend goes that the chariot was so saddened by the archon war that it plummeted so zhongli could have already been warring and shit. but we also know that the archon war was not a short period by any means. he happened to be a victor but that does not mean he had to have been there from the start
just dunno how that lines up with the creation of the chasm and the move of its people to chenyu vale and all that jazz
timelines are hard man
there’s also the theory that rex lapis is the sun god, which i personally buy into honestly lol
istg there was some book somewhere that alluded to zhongli having spent time in celestia prior to descending to teyvat. i could totally be making that shit up tho lol
anyway we know that fucker knows some shit. and he’s bound by a contract so he cannot divulge any information. whether it’s the contract w the tsaritsa or celestia itself idk i can’t remember if that was said somewhere
but it just puts things into perspective if he witnessed the creation of the human realm. all that shit about the descenders and the phanes and the shades and the divine nails and the moon sisters
man knows it all. probably. and can recall it like it just happened a minute ago. 6000+ years later
the idea that he’s the second descender is also one that has me intrigued. whether it’s true or not, the possibility is fun to play around with
writing this fic in zhongli’s pov is a challenge for sure lol my brain is wired to latch onto any information regarding him and how it could fit into the narrative. we know so much about him but also so little and the possibilities for him are endless
it’s a challenge but goddamn is it fun

sooo since I opened the floor for everyone else's genshin ocs i wanted to share my main duo who i love sm
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are Clotilde (left, they/them) and Magali (right, he/him), they are Dendro users - Clotilde is a Claymore and Magali is a Catalyst and I love them sm. infodumping under the readmore
The siblings hail from Fontaine and are both elfblooded, but there's a family legend that one of their ancient matriarchs fell in love with a vishap, so every couple generations a child is born with the traits of a vishap / dragon (the family plays fast n loose with the definition of both).
As a result Clotilde had affinity with Dendro to some extent before they ever gained their vision, as well as horns and a tail since birth - and while folks with animal traits are relatively common, dragons are a legendary commodity - so a naive person with seemingly draconic traits gets a target painted on their back.
After seeing his older sibling get in trouble more than once for trusting too easily, Magali grew to have a protective streak and wound up going to the Akademiya to research both the elemental dragons and the vishaps in hopes of helping Clotilde manage their mutations. Upon graduation, he glued himself to their side.
As of now, the two of them are investigating the family legend together, trying to track down a great-grandmother that supposedly has the very same mutations as Clotilde, and is still alive - just hidden away somewhere.
Itty bitty little cute trivia; Clotilde frequently gets big bursts of manic energy that need to be burned out before they're able to wind down. The pre-bedtime ritual for them is usually a race or game of chase until Clotilde is finally worn out enough to rest.

Half-Baked Genshin Theory Time!
You know the myths and legends surrounding the Seelies and the Moon Sisters? If not, find the corresponding wiki pages to refresh yourself. Anyway, one thing we know now after Sumeru is that the world’s memory can be tampered with by the gods, and if there’s something Celestia doesn’t want us to know, they will not let us know it outright. Thats why the truth of the world must be seeded into myths and stories full of allegory and metaphors, that’s why Andersdotter of the Hexenzirkel writes fairytales, to subvert the tampering and deletions. I was thinking about the myth that a Seelie and a traveler from afar got married, and their union caused the downfall of the seelie race and the Moon Sisters, and I wondered if that could be a metaphor for the original people-shaped seelie race starting to integrate with humans, if the Primordial One created humans or brought them over from elsewhere, or if humans were native to Teyvat like the dragons and Vishaps, and they had to go to great lengths to interact with the seelie race who would probably inhabit Celestia or some similar realm. And that early integration of Seelie and Human could’ve created the elf race we still know nothing about in the lore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was a prominent elf in the rebellion against Decarabian, there’s only one elf among the Fatui Harbingers, Klee’s an elf and her mom is a member of the Hexenzirkle, Rhukkhadevata was an elf (not counting Nahida despite the same features, cuz Nahida is canonically a branch off the Irminsul tree, she’s an avatar of Irminsul) AND the Dendro archon, Layla is so far the only dark-haired elf we see and it’s likely she doesn’t dye her hair because she’s so stressed and tired all the time, and not to mention Layla has this alternate persona that activates whenever she sleeps and she treats Layla as a separate person she watches over. Layla is just weird overall.

Soul Binding
Capitano x fem! crystal dragon! reader
(warning: the reader is crystal dragon, and by the archon, you are colossal one)
Fairy tales and legends always told about heroic knights who slain the evil dragon and safe people from bloodshed and fire. Long before the primordial one came along to created mankind, seven sovereigns ruled all vishaps across the world, until their might were crumbled by the ancient lord and his shadows.
(y/n) awoke from her millennium long slumber to the world that once again torn by continuation of battle from the past. Her life has always been boring since she awoke to this dark world...until, someone fell down to her lair.
At first, the crystaline dragon paid no mind to the tiny dark knight who surprisingly, survive the fall.
He didn't even realize her presence at all because she is too gigantic, with no fear nor sense of dread as he looked up to meet her gaze, the dragonness decided that he is worthy for her support.
"I need not to know your name, but you may call me (y/n)"
The knight is quite and reserve in nature, he received her guidance of survival down here in silence and only speaks when he need to. This behavior makes the crystal dragoness curious more about him, months turn to years as she shared her magic to sustain him, sheltered him with care and affection for a small creature such as who he called himself 'Capitano'
That was only a brief moment for a dragon lifetime, until she finally found a way to open a portal to the upper world above and bid him farewell.
Capitano discovered later that he only on MIA for three days, thankfully, his return brought stability to the Fatui military once more.
No one knows what and where he had been through, they have no idea that right now, he is already on par with the first harbinger in combat capabilities.
After all...this is only a small reward for the worthy, who became dragon champion and shared their power.
"Even from afar, i can feel your power resonating within me. worry not my dragoness...one day, i will bring you out to see the world"
/all right I'm sorry I suck at this, English is not my first language so if my grammar is weird then I'm terribly sorry/
(I saw plenty of Capitano shipped with Noble, princess-cy, soft, cute, s/o. i want to see smth new! like dragon reader! so i write one myself.
imagine...you are a dragon, Capitano is a knight, he can be Tsaritsa's dragonknight by...you know, riding you, into battle ofc! not that kind of riding)

Don’t ask why I was watching this
But it has some details from the 3.6 quests, and there is one very interesting theory. To summarize:
In the Enkanomiya event, Enjou tells us an old story about “Vishap people,” vishaps that took on human form and were only distinguishable by the shape of their pupils.
Both the Vishap Research Lab in Enkanomiya and Nahida’s ch2 discuss evolution in relation to vishaps, and the research lab specifically noted that vishaps are very good at adapting and evolving.
There is also the legend of the Hydro dragon sovereign being reborn among humans.
It was revealed in 3.5 Dain quest that “pure blood” Khaenri’ans were cursed with immortality and only those of mixed blood became hilichurls. Which would be a strange distinction to make if they were all just humans.
Khaenri’ans are distinguishable by their star-shaped pupils.
So the theory is that pure blood Khaenri’ans are actually “Vishap people” aka dragons whose ancestors took on human form.
The Pari quest and notes from down in the Khaen facility clarify that what happened during the Cataclysm was an opening being created to “realms beyond” which caused monsters and corruption (forbidden knowledge) to spill in. imo it’s unlikely that Celestia actively cursed anyone in Khaenri’ah, in which case the curse and the two kinds of mutation are due to the alien energy that spilled out all over the place. Purebloods being dragons, who are more in tune with various kinds of energy, became immortal, but anyone with human blood became a hilichurl.
There’s other things that would line up with this interpretation, like Apep mentioning the Dragon King Nibelung who would potentially be connected to King Irmin, whose name is mentioned in one of the in-game books as “connecting nine worlds,” and Apep’s disdain for gods being similar to that of the Alberich ancestor (and presumably Khaen purebloods in general).
tbh Genshin lore predictors have generally been pretty good about the Khaenri’ah stuff, so I feel like there’s some merit in considering this.

Hi bffs, today we're going to be talking about Enkanomiya's "Vishap people" and the curse of King Deshret's people, the birth of Eleazar bc I can't stop thinking about this possible/not likely correlation
Eleazar produces scales as a manifestation of divine punishment, for knowing "forbidden knowledge." It slowly paralyzes the patient and causes severe nerve damage.
Eleazar is positively related to a person's elemental "content", which I would gather means that people with eleazar has more elemental capacity/resistance or elemental synergy.
What does this have to do with the Vishap people? Well, I'd ask you to recall the Vassals of Watatsumi, and Tsumi the snake-masked shrine maiden from the Enkanomiya Event way back when in 2.4. Tsumi tells us that she was a reptile, a descendant of the Vishaps that had grown and evolved to further their advancement against humanity and Watatsumi. Vishaps are some of the oldest creatures in Teyvat, species wise. They are noteable for their ability and relation to elements, as they are biologically connected to specific elements. (Azhdaha, and the Dragon of Water legend of Watatsumi).
It's curious that there is a similar line between Eleazar producing scales and Vishap people, as Eleazar is divine *punishment* and Vishaps are the divinely *punished,* being that the Primordial One sent them away from the rest of the world.
a side note to relate this to irl include: the wiki calls Eleazar is a Jewish name, meaning "god has helped" /el'azár.
This is a curious decision by HYV given that Eleazar is, technically, proven to be mediated by "archon residue/ a god's remains" by the notorious Il Dottore

27. What's the worst gift they ever received? How did they respond?
WEIRDLY SPECIFIC BUT HELPFUL CHARACTER BUILDING QUESTIONS. @aeonsadrift / accepting !
At some point in time after the Archon War, a cult-like sect formed within Liyue. They had tradition to send 'sacrificial brides' to the gods to pray for their favor. They've sent many young men and women to their watery deaths to appease the Overlord of the Vortex to pray for safe sailing and fishing. At the same time, they also sent sacrifices to the Dragon King, believing that they would provide bountiful hunts and safe passage in the valley.
Retuo Longwang became tired of the bodies that would decay at the foot of their abode. These 'gifts' attracted vermin that were dangerous to young geovishaps who were very much defenseless. They responded by eradicating this group's leaders, therefore ending the line sacrificial brides in Liyue. Rex Lapis gave the Lord of Vishaps a bit of a scolding.
The next time they were to commit mass murder, it would have to be discussed beforehand. Legends concerning these events have been twisted by the tongues of Liyue's storytellers for centuries now, many of the facts have been lost to gilded embellishment.

Part 1
Rays of dawning sun dance across Vanki's scrunched face, prompting him to peel his eyes open. He basks in the warmth of the morning light, allowing his face to grow hot before pushing himself off the bed. It's been a total of seven days since he was dragged into the castle on the hill, interrogated and informed that he would be staying.
Vanki expected to be led into a dungeon then - his kind never trusted with freedom. Though he was not. Of course, he was still locked, but his room was nothing short of royal. For the first few days, Vanki woke up before daybreak and went to sleep only when the castle fell into languid slumber. Soon, however, he grew accustomed to the comfort of his large bed and the tranquility of his bath. Perhaps a little too quickly.
The King visited him every day but kept his distance, sensing the tension in the boy's shoulders and seeing his restless eyes darting back and forth during their conversations. Vanki was surprised to discover how much the King knew about vishaps. He never dared to ask about the scar, wary of indulging his curiosity. His gaze must have given away his thoughts unbeknownst to him because, during one of their conversations, the King rubbed his chin, his eyes crinkling slightly.
"I earned this one when I was around your age," the King had said with a lighthearted chuckle. "Went swimming into a vishap's lake to see what would happen - turned out he did not like being woken up from his nap."
Vanki let out a snort before he could stop himself. He looked up with wide eyes, fearing he had offended the King, but the man was laughing at himself.
"I expected to grow some scales or, at least, a tail, but a scar would have to suffice." He added, winking at Vanki, who was entirely astonished. His mom used to tell him about the times when vishaps lived in peace with humans, but Vanki always assumed it was thousands of years before his birth. The King did not look old enough to him.
"I've never turned," he mumbled under his breath, timid at the confession. His grandmother was bitterly disappointed when she learned about it. Vanki's breath hitched, worries about receiving the same disappointment again resurfacing.
"I know," the reply caught the boy off guard. Noting the confusion on his face, the King continued. "You're too young. I don't think you've slept, either?"
"No," the young vishap shook his head, his fingers twisting the edge of his shirt. "My mom didn't want it. When she died, my grandmother wanted me to go through the stone sleep, but I was scared, so..." He trailed off, not finding it in himself to finish the sentence.
"So you ran," the King concluded for him, his stare distant but not indicating any hostility. Vanki fell silent, searching for words to thank the King for his hospitality and to be greedy to ask - no, beg - for more of it. He didn't have to because the King spoke before he could. "As I said, you can stay."
Vanki's head snapped up, his eyes misty from unshed tears. He wanted to speak, to express how thankful he was, but his voice was nowhere to be found, stuck in his throat in a thick lump of disbelief and gratitude.
"But you cannot stay locked up in this room forever," the King smiled at him, a playful glint taking over his disposition. "How about you meet my wife and kids tomorrow? Then we'll think about school, hm?"
Vanki's head bobbed so enthusiastically he was scared he would damage a vertebra. The King huffed out another laugh, delighted at the boy's enthusiasm. Then he left the room, leaving Vanki shaking with anticipation and mortifying dread.
What if they don't like him? What if they ask the King to kick him out?
Vanki runs a hand over his face as he finishes tying the strings of his fresh shirt. Today was the day that would mark the first time he left his room. He was set to be introduced to the royal family right before breakfast, which was nearing like an impending doom.
Vanki glances at his hands, noticing the spreading black stains on his fingertips and halting his pacing to take deep breaths when a knock is heard. A servant unlocks the door, pushing it open and peeking in. She breaks into a broad smile the moment she spots him.
"Come on then, the kids cannot wait to meet you." Her voice is so cheerful that Vanki forgets his worries for a moment. He follows her along the corridor and down the stairs - all the while listening to her excited chirping. When they reach the large wooden doors, the lady stops, offering him another smile before sending him in.
Vanki feels as if he got submerged in the warm waters of his mom's favourite spring when he enters the room. For several seconds, he forgets how to inhale, trepidation fluttering his heart to his throat. His fears prove idle because the Queen rushes towards him, welcoming him with a tight hug and a kind smile. Vanki feels himself lean into her touch but is interrupted by an extremely excited squeal followed by a boy colliding with him at full force. Vanki stumbles back, managing to remain on his feet by a miracle of coordination. The kid's hands circle him with an iron hold, squeezing the air out of his lungs.
"That's Sar, our son," the King introduces with a laugh while his wife struggles to pry her son's hands off Vanki before the boy collapses from lack of oxygen. "He's five and a half and has been dying to meet a new friend."
Vanki looks down at him and is met with the brightest smile he has ever seen, even though the boy lacks a front tooth. When Sar finally releases him from his suffocating hold, Vanki notices another child tucked behind her mother. She looks older than Sar but younger than Vanki and has bright ginger hair, making it impossible for her to hide despite her best efforts. The King nods for his daughter to come greet their guest.
"And this is Amber," the Queen informs, prompting the girl forward. "She is about two years younger than you."
Seven, Vanki counts. He offers her a hand, and the girl shakes it shyly, jerking her hand away the moment Vanki's fingers loosen around hers. He wonders if she is scared of him and decides that she must. The assumption is soon denied when the siblings barely finish breakfast before dragging him out into the inner garden. Sar won't stop talking as he suggests a game after a game, and, if Vanki is honest, he has never had that much fun in his nine years of life. By the time the day fully breaks, Sar announces they are now the best of friends, which doesn't seem true to his sister.
Amber is weird.
She won't talk to him, instead opting to poke his arm until he pays attention to her. Even when Vanki tries to speak to her, she only communicates with him by nodding or shaking her head. At first, he thinks she doesn't like him, but that does not seem true since she continues playing with him and even shares her stolen cookies when they lie down on they grass to rest after the eventful morning.
Vanki is even more confused when Sar is taken away for his afternoon nap. He expects Amber to leave, but she grabs hold of his sleeve and pulls him after her. He follows wordlessly, curious to see where she is taking him, only to find himself led into a library. For the entire afternoon, Amber shows him her favourite books, still not uttering a word, and, when they leave to prepare for early dinner, she helps Vanki carry all of the books they've picked for him to read and smiles while waving him goodbye by his door.
As Vanki sets the books on his bedside table, he smiles to himself, delighted to have befriended Sar. He isn't sure where they stand with his sister. Amber is weird. Vanki can't help but like her nonetheless.

A/N: Vishap stones or Vishapakars are dragon stones, characteristic monoliths or stelae found in large numbers in the Armenian Highlands, near sources of water. They are believed to be images of vishaps, built to protect their respective water sources and honour the vishaps. In the Legends of Vishaps, however, vishap stones are the bodies of the sleeping vishaps. Vishaps can sleep for a thousand years, not waking up unless called upon.

KYOOOO !! <3 your enthusiasm makes you want to squish you (/pos) and the boy's name is Caelin! but he'd tell you to just call him Lin because he wants to seem approachable <//3 (/j)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( link to the first picrew here and the second one here! )
His official profile is still in my drafts, but here are a summary about his backstory and facts:
(Contains lore about Enkanomiya, Fontaine, and Ei's backstory under the cut!)
His birth name is Uriel (pronounced as 'yuhr-iy-el'), but the current mortal alias he goes by is Caelin (pronounced as 'kay-lin').
Is a water nymph or a merman who originated from the Dark Sea (the sea Enkanomiya was in) and he was not involved in the Archon War. An immortal who can be considered as a god, but he is a notably weak one and doesn't have nor want people to rule over.
Pitying the people of Enkanomiya, he told them how to ward off Bathysmal Vishaps using light and they expressed their gratitude to him. After Orobashi's arrival, Caelin was invited to live among them where he eventually became comrades with the serpent god. He wasn't worshipped by the people of Enkanomiya, but he was known as the 'Bringer of Light' and a dear friend of Orobashi.
Was the lover of Makoto, Ei's twin and the original Electro Archon. Following the rise of Watatsumi Island, Caelin bonded with her during the times when he was frequently sent as an envoy to discuss diplomatic matters until professional meetings turned into prolonged chats just to keep each other around. Makoto's death during the Cataclysm 500 years ago cemented his embitterment towards Celestia and Orobashi's demise at the hands of Ei also put him at odds with his deceased lover's twin — until now, Inazuma still bears painful memories for him.
Although he was well-respected in Enkanomiya, Caelin's role in history gradually faded into a legend amongst the residents of Watatsumi after the death of Orobashi. According to elders of the Bourou Village, legends only remember him in his merman form.
Currently, he is a member of the Court of Fontaine as an editor-in-chief for the Steambird, a newspaper outlet that is known all over Teyvat. He left Watatsumi a long time ago to conduct a personal and secret research on Celestia and the powers who currently oppose them such as the Abyss Order and the Fatui. His job is an immense aid in gaining more intel. He was indifferent towards Celestia before but after what ensued, he decided to start the research in honor of his deceased friend and lover.
The reason why he chose Fontaine to reside in is because the current Hydro Archon is known for "not meddling with the matters of the divine" (as said by Dainsleif) which lessens the possibility of Celestia keeping their gaze on Fontaine in particular. This helps to keep his research somewhat undercover and it seems to work, so far.
His in-game model is a medium male (which is similar to Venti, Xiao, etc.) and his height is 165 cm (5'4"). So, if you put Lin beside Zhongli and Venti, he'll be in the middle!
A five-star catalyst user with a Hydro Vision! His skills might have references to Bathysmal Vishaps concerning the energy recharge and a character's HP to highlight his Enkanomiya origins. I think he'd be either a Support or a Sub-DPS, but we'll see!
Very eloquent and gentle; talks so softly people always think he's about to doze off halfway through his speech. He likes taking walks during nighttime, reading newspapers and listening to Fontaine's orchestral performances. He can also sing well (he is a merman, after all), but that's a secret!
Caelin is wistful and emotional at heart, with hints of loneliness after the losses of his loved ones. But there are times where he can be childishly curious when it comes to machinery or overly modern things (as someone who has only lived under the sea before). But he is fervent about his goals and right now, those are to fulfill his research about Celestia to honor avenge? Makoto and Orobashi, as well as to wait for the day Tsaritsa executes her plan of overthrowing the divine.
Is scared yet equally fascinated by aquariums. It's like a prison, but a fun and luxurious one? Perhaps, he should ask the fishes in there and get an actual review. Yes, of course, he can talk to all sorts of marine life. (See what I mean when I say his thought process can be stupidly silly at times??? /lh)

◟༺✧༻◞ Ruin Machines: Humanoid, Sentinels, Drakes, Serpent and Perpetual Mechanical Array.
—Ruin Guard— An ancient humanoid war machine. They are said to be remnants from a lost ancient nation. Some believe that they were developed not as war machines, but as protectors of the ruins. Though that hypothesis does not explain why would they choose to employ explosive weaponry inside the very ruins they are supposed to protect…
—Ruin Hunter— A giant alien war machine. They are said to be remnants from a lost ancient nation. Apparently, the creators opted to forgo the low-performing humanoid-design in pursuit of improved combat effectiveness. They are extremely dangerous both in melee and ranged combat. Considering these mere relics possess such extraordinary power, one cannot help but wonder— what must the civilization that produced them have looked like at its height?
—Ruin Grader— An ancient humanoid war machine. Their form is similar to that of Ruin Guards, but it is more distorted and more powerful. Energy cores have been installed in both its legs, as though to power its overly heavy form.
—Ruin Sentinels— Various bizarrely-shaped machines that have taken different forms and functions to adapt to different goals. Legend has it that they are war machines left behind by a nation that has already been destroyed. Compared to the more common Ruin Guards, their design has greater value in the study of biomimesis.
↳ Cruiser: The inspiration for its decentralized design and combat modes seem to have come from honeybee colonies, rendering it able to change forms and to attack from different directions. ↳ Destroyer: The giant crown, composed of several parts, looks like some sort of frightening plant. One wonders what one has to go through in order to design such scary machine. ↳ Defender: The insect-like limbs are more agile than humanoid machines. The shield formed by its various components can resist any frontal attack. ↳ Scout: Exactly why the form and movements of certain deep-sea lifeforms are being imitated is not known. But either way, tangling with them is hardly the best idea.
—Perpetual Mechanical Array— A strange, alien machine. They say that it is a war machine left behind by a nation that has already been destroyed. Composed of several different parts, it can adapt to its combat environment and employ a variety of attacks. This machine, comprised of cubic shapes, is on some level very much like the elemental hypostases. ↳ Perpetual Heart: The core that powers the autonomous movements of the Perpetual Mechanical Array. Some theorize that the symbols on these cores have knowledge and logic inscribed upon them in a language that eyes cannot perceive. Some go a step further and believe that these unique Ruin machines autonomously decided to forsake a biomimetic form to pursue strength of function on account of their especially large cores and complex inscriptions.
—Ruin Serpent— An ancient, bizzarely-shaped autonomous machine. It is said that this was heavy-duty engineering equipment left behind by a nation that has been destroyed. The gear system on its “head” can grind its way through even the hardest bedrock. If this was the case, then carving out tunnels with which the forces of this nation might access the whole continent would have been a thing of great ease. ↳ Runic Fang: A “fang” with which the mysterious, snakelike machine of old dug into mountains’ depths. There are many ominous runes carved on it. It is said that giant serpents lurk in the dark fissures deep beneath the ground. Burning with eternal resentment and malice toward the world above, they throw themselves into digging great tunnels, yet none know what their malicious purposes are…
—Ruin Drakes—
Horrifying dragon-shaped machines. It is said to be war machines left behind by a now-destroyed nation. They mimic the appearance of the beings known as Vishaps, with some functional enhancements. Such machines have an even greater ability to "absorb" —or perhaps the right word is "counteract"— elemental powers than the vishaps.
↳ Earthguard: From this ability, one can glimpse the scale of the ambition that the civilization that made these machines must have once held... ↳ Skywatch: How, you wonder, did a civilization that could make such frightening machines of war collapse?           ↳ Chaos module: The dragons were once the most primitive and ancient bodily for of the supreme elements until they were defeated, conquered, or assimilated.           ↳ Chaos bolt: Among the lost ancient kingdoms, there was a group of people who were obsessed with the idea of mimesis. Be it the Hypostases' pure ordered elements or the ancient primitive power of the dragons, these people believed that they might all be replicated and modified to the point where they had surpassed their natural counterparts. By this means, a superior and unsullied bodily form could replace the continuously decaying and shattering order.
—Aeonblight Drake—
This dragon-shaped combat machine is a being that inspires fear, much like the lord who once ruled these vast lands. It is said that the now-destroyed realm once sought forbidden knowledge and attempted to create perpetual-motion machines that could match or even surpass primordial lifeforms. This mysterious, tireless mechanical monstrosity seems to be proof that they did indeed reach heights that mortals should never have attained. ↳ Perpetual caliber: A motive device obtained from a mysterious ruin machine. The machine it once powered may have been destroyed, but it continues to rotate all the same. There should be no such thing as an energy source that can sustain itself forever in this world, and most research results obtained in the field of "perpetual motion" have been eventually proved false. Yet, this device is proof that a now-destroyed civilization once reached heights that present-day nations could not hope to match...

THE TRENCHES OF HER MAJESTY
Leucosia rules over the deepest trenches of Fontaine's seas (and the seas themselves), deep underwater creatures that seem otherworldly and overall horrifying reside with her. And as one of them, Leucosia is someone who would rather live where the light cannot reach them- her eyesight is far better suited for the dark (and 9/10 when she goes to the surface it takes a while for her eyes to adjust.) But back to the trenches, Leucosia is also in command of the hydrothermal vents at the bottom of the seas, the volcanoes underwater, and whatever Vishaps that reside under the waves with her. The creatures deep under the sea only know of her as their ruler and the one who keeps the sailors or reckless divers away from them (After all who would want to come face to face with a giant sea snake?).
Leucosia's always kept an eye on the oceans of fontaine even if she herself can't reach them with how she is now, she can attempt to ward away the people who seek to disturb the peace beneath the waves. Her kingdom is full of the macabre and nightmarish, the creatures you'd see in horror, the deformed; she's always held such a candle to whatever oceanic life is in her realm, she was always so kind to them no matter the look or how they survived. She's regarded as a deity to them, but on the surface she's a legend.

so apparently the newest genshin lore aka the ‘reptilian people’ garbage is exclusive to the english translation. in the original chinese text, vishap people are actually based on the naga, actual creatures in hindu mythology. this makes sense considering the legends about naga being able to assume a fully human form or a fully serpentine form and can be dangerous but are considered more often than not to be beneficial to humans, which matches up with the legends surrounding vishap people.
ofc, i just got my information about naga from a quick google search so if i’m wrong about anything please feel free to correct me.
