She did it, she was the most powerful witch and not just saved a princess, she saved the princess people, stop a Tormenta, killed a Lefeu (AKA demon), killed a traitor and save all her friends.........but the cost, of course, was her freedom. She now have the Fire Demon Eye, Lou past 3 month now trying to control it. Let's hope she made it.

This is one of the many reasons why I find live-action Beauty and the Beast repulsive.

The film was promoted to be incredibly progressive and that it has the first official LGBTQ Disney character.

LeFeu in the film, however, is an offensive stereotype of a gay man and that is not at all a good presentation. It is a straight idea of a gay man being represented as this idiotic goof.

It is not a good portrayal.

I know I run a Little Women podcast, but oh my gosh...maybe I should do a special episode of films that are being sold as "feminist" and then are not like that at all.

This is my character, Lorelei LeFeu from my friends' City of Mists roleplaying game. She's a vampire chemist based off of Carmilla and anarchy. Her front is a healer/pharmacist (the setting was originally American revolutionary war period, but turned into more fantasy anachronism lol). In secret, she's a demolition expert who makes and provides explosive weapons to the rebellion. She was a lot of fun to play! This was my first try with more dramatic lighting and I'm happy with how it turned out.

2/20/24-2/24/2024: All's Well That Ends Well

The typography of that title is just terrible. Why isn't there a space between "that" and "Ends"? How come the first "Well" isn't on the first line? Wouldn't that look better? The First Folio really does feel more slipshod the more I look at it.

I think this play is about "What happens after the end of a comedy." I'm clearly biased by the Oxford chronology, because Measure for Measure was right before this, but that play ends with a bunch of marriages being decreed. That's the sort of thing that happens at the end of Shakespearean comedies. Gilbert and Sullivan operettas also tend to just pair people up in the last scene without regard to whether any of them have regarded each other with any affection.

So in All's Well That Ends Well, the first act is a compressed comedy: Helen (or Helena; I kind of hate how a bunch of characters have different names in different editions) want to marry Bertram, so she does a favor for the King and gets the prize. Hooray!

And then he runs away to war, so she has to do a bunch more shenanigans designed to trap him into marriage for a second time, which may or may not involve getting him to actually love her. At the end of the play, he seems at least resigned to her.

Minor Character Watch

New feature! There are often minor characters, usually comic relief, who I enjoy a lot. Thersites from Troilus and Cressida, for example, just reads everybody for filth and I love him. So I'm going to split out the observations on them from the plot stuff.

Here, I liked the relationship between Lefeu (old snarky guy) and Paroles (young liar and braggart). Lefeu really tears into Paroles, but once Paroles has been brought low, Lefeu takes pity on him. It's fun! There's also a couple of scenes with a (fake) Interpreter that I like a lot. The other characters even comment on how good the Interpreter is.

Next up: King Lear
