Manipped 0 characters out of the 11 missing at the start of the season. Written 0 bios out of the 19 missing at the start of the season.
Manga editing: 0 (100 = project complete)
Season 1-per-Month post goal: 4/4
———————————————————————————————
- Do and/or finish one fanwork per month [✔]
June: - By June 20 I got some of my mojo back and managed to give the Subdom AU big monster draft a go. By the end of the month I had churned out 7 pages (this draft is written in dense Arial 8, long paragraphs that end only with a change of scene).
July: - Revamped the very old manip of Genis-Vell/Cap.Marvel, and managed to make a (more satisfying) variant while at it. - Finished the old movies!era female!Kirk wip that had been on hold since ages (can’t share without completing Spock). - Continued the Subdom AU draft with uncounted pages on open chapters (as I count the pages only when I finish a chapter).
August: - Written 11 characters bio for the NCIS crew (Keates, Cassidy, Grady, Burley, Wolf, Cranston, Yates, Langer, Lee, Hart, Mann). - Started and finished 7 insignia for Star trek/Star Wars. - Started the TOS Mirror and SNW crews edits. - Continued the Subdom AU draft with 12 page in finished chapters plus some other pages on open chapters. - Written the Discovery/SNW headcanon. - Started the SNW Enterprise badges. - Written a TOS headcanon/ficlet about Tarsus (1700~ words).
September: - Written 1 characters bio for the NCIS crew (Shepard). - Finished the SNW Enterprise badge (seal version) - Published an heacanon for Archangel. - Started to the big arch/idea of Warren ascension. - Started the Warren/Betsy canon fix. - Started to develop a big idea for a Warren/Betsy medieval AU and, a couple of days later, actually started to write the actual fanfiction from it, churning down 13 pages (times 10) in four days. - Rushed an Arthur Pendragon’s IG for Queen Elizabeth’s death.
- Finish & post some old graphic WIP ❌
- Post some finished graphic that was held back [✔] [ 1]
It was actually revamped, but it's still something I was stuck with since 2013 or even before
- Finish Chronicles of Camelot’s retouch ❌ I actually added more to this series. *facepalm*
- Finish that 90% done 2015 Spirk one shot ❌
- Finish the Royal Eagle fic that’s 90% done ❌
- Return to write actual fics ✔ Although I didn’t return to already existing WIPs, but started new things.
- Finish with all Kirk’s headcanons series ❌ Actually added more.
- Complete the Trek characters headcanon two series ❌ - Post that Le-matya headcanon ❌
- Finish to develop the “Modern Times Merlin” AU and made this AU edit ❌
- Work on some Merlin / Star Wars AU content. ❌ - Finish and post the Sea Patrol Trek crew ❌
- Post some other Trek crew AU ❌
- Five Genis Vell manips, one for each of the five issues of the miniseries, in the date of the issue release (July to November). ❌ Reached the target for the July and August releases. Failed for September.
- Rush a BBC’s Merlin post on Queen Elizabeth’s dead. ✔ Not that it was worth it, apparently...

Screamfest Horror Film Festival Announces Initial Lineup for 21st Edition
Tumblr media
Screamfest® Horror Film Festival, the largest and longest-running horror film festival in the United States, announced their first-wave lineup of competitive features and shorts for its 21st edition. Running October 12th through 21st at the TCL Chinese Theater, Screamfest® welcomes audiences back to the big screen for a collective experience they won’t soon forget. Tickets can be purchased here: https://screamfestla.com
The Retaliators will open Screamfest® LA on October 12th for its North American premiere with a red carpet prior to the screening. The film follows an upstanding pastor who uncovers a dark and twisted underworld as he searches for answers surrounding his daughter's brutal murder. Directed by Bridget Smith and Samuel Gonzalez Jr. and written by the Geare brothers, The Retaliators also features a high-octane original soundtrack and cameos from some of the biggest names in rock music, including Five Finger Death Punch, Tommy Lee, Papa Roach, The Hu, Ice Nine Kills, Escape The Fate, and more appear on screen. Marc Menchaca (Ozark), Michael Lombardi (Rescue Me), and Joseph Gatt (Game of Thrones) star in this horror-thriller which reveals a game of revenge played using a new set of rules.
Considered the "Sundance of Horror," Screamfest® is proud to showcase new work from independent filmmakers from across the globe. Highlights from this year’s program include the World Premieres of Father of Flies, the haunting tale of family life and the supernatural and Teddy Grennan’s Wicked Games where a long weekend at a country estate is turned into a nightmare when a group of masked intruders invades the property. Little do they know one guest has a surprise for them.
Four films will be making their North American debuts at the festival. In addition to The Retaliators, Richard Waters’s dark folk horror Bring Out The Fear traps its protagonists in an unsolvable maze where a sinister presence awaits; Clare Foley stars in the sci-fi horror The Changed where an alien presence takes possession of the hearts and minds of her city; and Isolation depicts nine tales of terror which are woven together as remote people work to survive an increasingly deadly outbreak.
US premieres at the festival include Russia’s #Blue_Whale produced by Timur Bekmambetov, which follows Dana as she works to uncover the truth behind her sister’s suicide; Argentina’s fantasy horror film Nocturna: Side A- The Great Old Man’s Night which depicts one old man’s journey to rethink his past and present and question his reality; and Kratt by Rasmus Berivoo in which children stumble upon an instruction manual to create a supernatural being.
West Coast premieres at the festival include a joint production between the US, Mexico, and Venezuela, Exorcism of God which follows an American priest working in Mexico who, due to a botched exorcism, carries a dark secret with him; hailing from Ireland, Let the Wrong One In dives into the complications of family ties when a vampire is discovered in the family; Erik Bloomquist follows twins who spend a night at a remote inn to investigate their missing father in Night at the Eagle Inn; North American distribution rights to the Argentinian The Returned (Los Que Vuelven) - which follows a woman in 1919 prays to a mythical deity to resurrect her stillborn son - were acquired in a new venture between Peter Block of A Bigger Boat and Seth Nagel, Scott Einbinder and Garrick Dion of 5X Media; What Josiah Saw explores a farmhouse haunted by the past; Alone With You stars Emily Bennett, Emma Myles, and fan-favorite Barbara Crampton in a twisted tale of memory and horror unfolding over a romantic homecoming for a distant girlfriend; and When I Consume You by Perry Blackshear where two siblings get more than they bargained for when hunting a shadowy stalker.
The festival will also feature a Special Presentation of Daniel Farrands’s Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeyman starring Peyton List and Lydia Hearst, which follows the notorious killer through a little known chapter of her life in Deland, Florida.
“After a challenging year for cinema, we are excited to return to our home at the TCL Chinese Theatre for our latest lineup of frights,'' says festival founder Rachel Belofsky. “While last year’s drive-ins allowed us to continue to celebrate horror films as a community, we have missed the magic of the traditional theatrical experience.”
Formed in August 2001 by film producer Rachel Belofsky, Screamfest Horror Film Festival is a female-run 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that gives filmmakers and screenwriters in the horror and science fiction genres a venue to have their work showcased in the film industry.

Songs for Halloween Parties
Halloween parties offer the most wide open subject possibilities of any type of celebration. Halloween is the one day of the year that lets you be any living thing or dead thing, any occupation, any human or non-human and any personality type. You can be a cartoon character if you like. Since Halloween can go hundreds of different directions, the playlist will likely be a diverse list of novelty songs. My edits - Masterpost
Tumblr media
Making a MASTERLIST for my edits because I’m losing track of what’s done and what’s in my to-do folders.
EDIT: looks like the links aren’t working on mobile anymore. They point to results on the whole tumblr instead of just on my blog. I don’t kow how to fix this so I’m afraid the only solution is to seach for the film title on my blog.
Band of Brothers cast
They are under the tag #My BoB cast edits (outsourced content and reblogs from other content creators, mostly for those with wider fan-base, are tagged #BoB cast) and with the actor’s name or the serie/movie title.
Feel free to send me an ask if there’s anything you’d like to see from BoB and its cast

𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬:
- pls avoid sending anything that’s super nsfw, especially if ur an adult. im a minor, so that’s quite uncomfy!
- literally just send a concept or aesthetic and whoever u want it to be with LMAO
- try to have a specific idea of what you want, so say you want a beach date w brian may, the ask would best be written with being that specific! i wanna make u happy!
- if u don’t really have a really specific idea, it’s okay to be vague, just be aware i may be flexible with it.
- that being said, if a request makes me uncomfy or if i dont vibe w it, i won’t do it. nothing personal! but don’t harass me abt it pls
- if you want to request using certain colors, u can do that!
- so to reuse my example from earlier, you could b like “hey! could u do a beach day w brian may with orange and teal colors? ty!” or something like that.

Time and Place: Between 19 and 16 million years ago, in the Burdigalian of the Miocene
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kuiornis is from the Saint Bathans Fauna, a distinctive snapshot of the evolution of New Zealand’s unique birds - from the Bannockburn Formation of the South Island of New Zealand
Tumblr media
Physical Description: Kuiornis is known from limb elements, so we don’t know much about it, but it seems to have been only a little smaller than the living Rifleman, its closest relative - so it was probably around 7 centimeters long. It would have looked similar to the living Rifleman as well - a round bird, with a distinctively thin tail, and a small head with a triangular beak. As for differences from living New Zealand Wrens, it had differently formed and more compact legs. Beyond this, it’s difficult to say more about the specific appearance of Kuiornis; it probably would have been green and brown in color, like its living relatives.
Diet: Without fossil evidence of the beak, we have to assume that Kuiornis was an omnivore; given that New Zealand Wrens today favor invertebrates but still eat other forms of food, this is not an unreasonable assumption.
Behavior: Kuiornis would have been very skittish like modern New Zealand Wrens, flitting back and forth between the shrubs and vegetation in its habitat. It would have probably been only moderately social, like living New Zealand Wrens, and making high pitched, non-musical calls. Kuiornis would then spend most of its time foraging for food. When not doing that, it would have taken care of its young, building nests out of grass and in secluded spaces. It is difficult to say much about its breeding behavior - or behavior in general - however, since very little is known from this dinosaur.
Ecosystem: At the end of the Paleogene, New Zealand flooded. This completely erased the previous ecosystem, killing most things that had been on the island before that point. Afterwards, the only things that were able to colonize the space were creatures that floated over, and creatures that could fly. This included lizards and snakes and other reptiles, bats, and most notably of all - birds. New Zealand had one of the most unique avifaunas of all time, with many birds evolving to fill roles that mammals took in other locations - things like the moas, the large birds of prey, the adzebills, and living forms like the New Zealand Parrots that are like avian rodents and rabbits. The Saint Bathans Fauna is a snapshot of that initial colonization, showing how these unique birds began to diversify after New Zealand reemerged, in a lush lake enviroment. Kuiornis is just one part of that - showing the origin of the weird New Zealand Wrens. There was also the early Kiwi Proapteryx, the small Manuherikia ducks, the stiff-tailed Dunstanneta, the shelduck Miotadorna, the goose Cereopsis, the wood duck Matanas, the weird pigeon Rupephaps, the early Adzebill Aptornis proasciarostratus, the flightless rails Priscaweka and Litorallus, the swimming flamingo Palaelodus, the herons Matuku and Pikaihao, the bittern Pikaihao, the New Zealand Parrot Nelepsittacus, and potential eagles and hawks. There were also many geckos, skinks, crocodilians, turtles, and tuatara present as well. Weirdly enough, there was a mammal other than bats - but that mammal is what we would call a Mystery.
Other: Kuiornis has been extensively studied in phylogenetic analyses, and these analyses consistently recover Kuiornis as a New Zealand Wren, so it is an important find in understanding how this unique group of little dinosaurs evolved in such an isolated environment as New Zealand. Interestingly enough, it consistently comes out as very much nested in the group, extremely closely related to the Rifleman. This indicates that Kuiornis is not a decent model for the ancestor of the New Zealand Wrens, and also that advanced members of this group were present as recent as the mid-Neogene period.

YEAR OF THE BUTTERFLY
previous years: A SONG THAT DEGRADES EACH TIME YOU PLAY IT :: 2018 A CHURCH AND JOHN LENNON’S “IMAGINE” :: 2017 SIKH DEVOTIONAL MUSIC :: 2016 SPOOKY BLACK :: 2015 this year: I’ve spent the past few months working on a book that I’ve always wanted to write but never figured I’d make the time for. At a really basic level, it’s about listening to music with friends. A couple weeks ago, I devoted a few days to reading a stack of books and articles about the emotional experience of music. They were written by philosophers, critics, cognitive scientists, historians. I took from them two overarching questions. First, what does it mean to assign a piece of music a feeling, like “happy” or “sad?” Is the song itself “sad,” or does it just model a kind of sadness proximate to how we feel? What elements of a song do this? The fraying of a voice? Minor keys? Tempo? Is it all a trick of memory? None of the answers really satisfied me, since music is such an intimate thing. A song makes us feel a way for reasons that are often either blindingly obvious or remote and mysterious. An expert can tell you that humans are wired to feel joy when a certain configuration of notes are struck in tandem, but maybe it just reminds you of looking at the front door.
The other question was whether music itself facilitates any unique emotional possibilities--a mode of feeling that we can’t get anywhere else. Music doesn’t mimic the real world, it doesn’t make arguments. One writer suggested that the thrill of music was its capacity to remind you, foremost, that music can thrill you. In essence, each time we hear something new and feel something, we are being reminded of all the times we’ve felt this way before. We’re living in the echo of a former enchantment. Maybe you’ll hear it again, process it, assign it a genre or context, and the mystique evaporates. But music is one of those things that doesn’t happen on our time. We don’t stand in front of it and train our gaze on this quadrant or that. We don’t flip back to make sure we didn’t miss something. You can’t slow it down as it is happening, you merely let it happen.
In the spring, the Museum of Chinese in America in Manhattan showed “The Moon Represents My Heart,” an exhibition I worked on with MOCA’s curators, Herb and Andrew. The basic idea was to look at all the ways music had enriched immigrant life, from early opera troupes touring America’s Chinatowns to karaoke bars, church choirs, and after-school violin lessons, fifties doo-wop trios to garage punks and self-taught dance music producers. There’s no legible tradition of Chinese American music so we just wanted to present it as a textured and everyday thing--the experience of the fan could be as legitimate as that of a Mando-pop superstar. While working on the show, people would often ask me for a playlist, but I didn’t really have any to share. It wasn’t really about the music itself, which could sound derivative or amateur to some. It was about the fact that they sought to express themselves through music, in contexts that made them outliers and oddballs. I came to love all the music in our show because of that second-hand thrill--that sense that these moments had been deeply meaningful to everyone in the room.
You can hear it in the voice of Stephen Cheng, who ended up being the show’s most memorable star. He put out a rocksteady gem in the sixties and then spent the next decade in New York trying to get the Dragon Seeds, his Chinese “folk-rock” band, off the ground. Cheng died years ago, but Andrew found his children, who brought some reels of unreleased music to the museum. I remember staring at them, wondering what was on them. It was a kind of anticipation and wonder that I often miss, when the operative feeling I associate with music-listening on the internet is the frenzy of opening and closing windows, clicking links, proving my humanity to a captcha.
Stephen’s singing wasn’t great, but it was perfect. His version of “Yesterday,” all warbly and over-the-top, has now supplanted the original for me. Somehow, we played some of Stephen’s songs on the radio, including one about butterflies and love. Somehow, one of the people listening was a butterfly expert, and he was about to marry another butterfly expert. Who knew such a song was possible, the groom-to-be told me. Stephen was too obscure to be properly forgotten. Or maybe his song was just dormant all these years. It awaited just the right listener, and now, over forty years later, he would get his propers, sandwiched somewhere between the vows and Kool and the Gang, a couple minutes of people scratching their heads, searching for the right smile, saying Can you believe this? to one another.

Comics Read, 2/4/19-2/10/19

Avengers #66 by Roy Thomas, Barry Smith & Sal Rosen
I haven’t read a ton of this era of Avengers comics. Barry Smith in his full-on Kirby/Buscema hybrid mode is kind of fun, it turns out. Everyone just sort of monologs during their dialog, Vision is a cold synthezoid, I had forgotten Hawkeye was apparently Goliath for a hot minute, and we get the single best Ultron design until JRJR gets ahold of him 20 years later:

The Green Lantern # 4 by Grant Morrison, Liam Sharpe & Steve Oliffe
Continuing to enjoy this 2000AD-ification of the DC space characters.
Kaijumax season four, #4 by Zander Cannon
G.I. Joe: Sierra Muerte #1 by Michel Fiffe

Stig’s Inferno #1 by Ty Templeton
It’s been such a long time since I read these. I forgot how much “chicken fat” there was in this comic. Sort of shocking to see such early ty templeton work in that it doesn’t really look like anything I would associate with him. If I remember correctly, it’s only an issue or so later before his drawing gets that solid/angular aspect that I like so much. The ones where he’s driving Satan’s yacht around, that stuff. Even more shocking is the fact that the indica lists the title and all contents copyright Vortex Comics, and not Ty Templeton. I mean I know Vortex/Bill Marks was supposed to be a sketchy company/dude but I was still surprised. The cover for this issue by Paul Rivoche is a classic.

Deathblow #1-4 by Jim Lee, Brandon Choi & Tim Sale
I guess Jim Lee got really excited about Sin City, because he’s doing a weird, overdrawn version of Miller’s chiaroscuro style from that book, maybe also a dash of the linework style from Elektra Lives Again. At least he is for the two issues he drew. Then Tim Sale takes over, and Lee moves to layouts. These comics are totally unreadable. It seems like maybe there will eventually be some cool vampire action but mostly it’s just buff dudes yelling at each other and standing around in shadows. There’s just nothing interesting here, really, especially once Lee isn’t drawing it. Even if it looked kinda weird and was 400% stupid, it was interesting to see someone who was so wildly popular reinventing their art style years into heir career. I mean, Tim Sale is fine, it just doesn’t have that frisson that seeing Lee go out on a limb brings to the work.

Cybernary #1-4 by Nick Manabat & Steve Gerber
Part of a flip book with Deathblow. Half the book is DB and half is Cybernary. This is also dumb as hell but at least it’s readable. It just doesn’t mean anything. The main attraction is Nick Manabat’s delightfully over the top art. It’s like if Bald Eagles did a Battle Angel Alita riff. I guess it’s supposed to take place in the 90s but it feels like a Cyberpunk story, so the mentions of characters that would later be in Warren Ellis Stormwatch comics is weird. Considering the props that Image was getting for its (technically impressive and mostly aesthetically disgusting) advances in digital coloring, etc etc, it’s weird how badly printed this comic is. All the blacks are printed too heavily and the shadowy forms keep filling in. A problem to say the least, when you have this and Deathblow sharing a title! Sadly, I think Nick Manabat had a lot of promise as a creator—I remember reading these at the time and feeling like there was something special in his work, I’m glad to come back 20 years later and see the spark is still there—but he died a couple years after this comic came out.
