29. Howdo the handle disasters or emergencies? Minor injuries? Sickness?

They handle disasters and emergencies like fucking professionals, thank you, they are spies and soldiers and have lived their entire lives in a constant state of emergency.  When shit hits the fan, Jyn and Cassian are on top of everything.  They’ve got it.  They’ve even got it when the other is injured--once the immediate danger sorts itself out, you’d better believe they’re going to be glued to their partner’s side, but they’re exceedingly good at compartmentalizing.  They’ll handle it, they’ll get on with it, and then they’ll hover to their heart’s content.

Even minor injuries are usually okay.  Jyn tells Cassian not to be a baby, Cassian tells Jyn not to be an idiot, and the medics scream through their teeth about these two fucks who constantly leave early AMA and never agree to take pain meds.  The medics knew Jyn and Cassian were soulmates the second they woke up after Scarif, when they both immediately started complaining about how the painkillers made it hard to think.

Sickness, though...yeah.  Could either of them absolutely work through a crippling case of bronchitis and still get their jobs done?  Sure, if the mission calls for it.  Do they still act like they’re about to die of the Black Death the second they get a little snuffly? Yes.

39. Who initiated therelationship? Who kissed who first?  When did they realize they were inlove?

Cassian realized he was in love with Jyn when she gave a speech about hope, and rebellion, and fighting, and then he went out and found her a small army and a stolen ship for her suicide mission.  He figured he was going to die with her, but--well, fuck it.  He’d pretty well decided he was going to die for the Rebellion when he was a kid, so dying with Jyn to save the whole lot of them seemed only reasonable.

Jyn realized she loved Cassian in the elevator.  It was the first time in a long time that she wanted something for herself other than to be left alone, so naturally she figured it out around the same time she resigned herself to immediate demise by Death Star.

After their incredibly narrow escape from Scarif, Jyn is a little unsure of her welcome at the Rebellion at large, including with Cassian--she’s no more one of them now than ever, she thinks, and she doesn’t quite know how to deal with the phenomenon of wanting to be involved, of wanting to help, of wanting him, after so many years of being careful not to want anything.  It’s Cassian who limps over to her cot in the medical bay, bacta patches on her face and arm where the flare burned her, his leg in splints where it slammed into the shuttle bulkhead during their escape and shattered his tibia.  Jyn tucks herself aside and Cassian sinks down on the cot beside her and when he puts her arm around her, Jyn doesn’t fight him.

She kisses him the day he leaves the med bay, her face tender with new skin and his leg still stiff.  It’s a fast, almost brutal kiss, clumsy, practically an attack, but Cassian loops his arm around Jyn’s waist before she can get away and kisses her back.

38. What are they like in the bedroom? Any kinks/fetishes/turn-ons? Anything they won’t do?

I am not the first person to come up with this but I do love it VERY much: Cassian Andor’s favorite thing to do in bed is to go down on Jyn.  Absolute top number one favorite thing.  Part of this is because he just...likes it, part of it is because Jyn was so obviously shocked the first time he said that he just wanted to do something for her, and part of it is because he’s a very service-oriented partner.  It gets him off to get her off.  Especially since Jyn was mostly used to unsatisfying sex for most of her life, hurried meet-ups in dark corners and the occasional tumble with another criminal, and the discovery that Cassian likes to eat her out (and is extremely good at it) was a massive change of pace.

Jyn likes to jump Cassian in--not public places, but semi-public places.  She likes to tease him through a war meeting and then drag him into a storage closet right after, so that she can jack him off or blow him while he bites down on the heel of his hand or the curve of her shoulder so that they aren’t heard.  She just thinks it’s incredibly satisfying to see the cool, collected spy, Captain Andor of the Rebellion, reduced to shaking against her and gasping through his teeth so that he doesn’t yell.

In terms of actual kinks, sometimes Cassian just needs...to be told what to do.  His decisions cost lives every day, sometimes he needs to not be making the calls.  Sometimes he needs to turn his brain off and have Jyn push him down and tell him exactly what he’s going to do for her.  And Jyn, sometimes Jyn just needs to be held down and made to feel good.  She’s been running for her life since she was a child, often from one disaster into another, and sometimes it’s hard for her to take pleasure as she finds it.  She can’t stand to be tied down--neither of them can, they’ve got issues--but some days she craves the feeling of Cassian’s strength holding her to the bed and making her enjoy it.

God, okay, listen, I just…REALLY like to explore the idea of people doing terrible things, and how that may or may not make them terrible people.  I read too much Animorphs as a kid to be anything less than THOROUGHLY into that concept.  And honestly I’m easily as interested in Beau in that fic as I am in Caleb, because he knows he’s capable of something like this, but Beau is just discovering that she’s capable of standing aside and allowing it.  

Idk, for all Beau’s self-esteem issues, for all that she’s never thought of herself as a good person, she was only ever a petty criminal–forger, thief, fence, brawler.  She has bravado, but she’s clearly never even considered in any kind of depth the kind of systematic violence that Trent trained into his students.  I’ll lay money that, while it might occur to her to beat the truth out of someone, she has never put thought into the finer points of how to torture someone.  Under other circumstances, she probably would have said this was a hard limit she would never cross, but we already know that Beau is prepared to get more violent than she expects in defense of her people–she likes kids, by and large, but she was ready and willing to not just hurt Toya, but knock her out, when it came down to Toya or Beau’s friends.  And she seemed bothered that she was willing to do that, but she did it, not long after meeting these fools.  They’ve been together longer now, longer than Beau’s had anyone in a long time.  I honestly, genuinely think that if Caleb had a good enough argument, this would not be outside the realm of possibility.

OKAY, tbh the reason I haven’t read the series yet is because I sense that it is going to demand at least 80% brain power and I haven’t been functioning at better than 65% at any time for like...two and a half months.  So what I am saying is that I too am not really A Person, but as soon as I’m enough of A Person for political intrigue and moral ambiguity, I’m gonna read them.

The entire summer, for basically everyone I’ve spoken to, has apparently just happened with a soundtrack of variously pitched shrieking, because I guess that is where the world is at right now.

I REALIZE THAT I SHOULD PROBABLY SEND THIS TO THE OTHER BLOG BUT: do you have anything (fancasts / particularly accurate but unrelated pieces of art / anything visual at all) for any of the worldwalker characters but specifically brenneth (including people that never show up, like torei)? GOD i'm sorry for the all caps and the all-consuming enthusiasm but you caught me at a lull in watching leverage and i CAN'T DEAL with the wedding thing (as i said in the tags: my internal thought process: !!!)

I have...some things, yes.

So for straight up appearance, I like this woman’s (Naomi Janumala) facial structure and coloring for Brenneth, but I picture Brenneth as broader in the shoulders and hips and sort of more...solid, across the board?  She’s a warrior and a blacksmith, and she works hard to maintain the physique she’s accustomed to on Earth.  She doesn’t manage it 100%, but even if she went on a really aggressive diet, she couldn’t achieve the waifish model look.  Here’s a picture that SCREAMS Brenneth in armor to me (she also showed up in this graphic from @lathori​), and three pieces of art that also very much give me strong Brenneth vibes.

Sorry to rant, but I WILL have my buff warrior heroine look like one!  I am the author and therefore I am god and therefore I say that Brenneth is broad shouldered and solid-muscled and sienna-skinned and black-eyed!  She is built like a brick house and everyone in Alleirat who sees her falls instantly and hopelessly in love!

For Crispin, I like this guy, who is apparently an Italian actor named Stefan Masciolini, and I don’t know a single other blessed thing about him.  Crispin is, conversely, a little narrower than this guy, muscled like a runner or a swimmer rather than Brenneth’s bulkier physique.  The picture on that link has longer hair, so it’s more White Wolf than Crispin, but a cursory google has also turned up this picture, which is also very accurate although Crispin likes to keep his face clean-shaven.  Also, here is a beautifully photoshopped picture featuring Crispin’s favorite idle activity, which is playing cat’s cradle with lightning, and a picture of what I imagine Crispin’s old rapier looked like.

Also, you didn’t ask, but here are two pictures and a gifset that are very Torei, who was from a far northern oak forest and ice pale in both hair and skin, as well as extremely tall (like 7′2″) and quite thin.  

And as long as I’m at it, Krei takes after her father, both taller (like 7′6″) and bulkier than her mother, and looks very much like Brenneth, with hair a few shades lighter and cooler tones to her skin.  Shiko is the lower end of average height, skinny more from malnourishment and stress than anything else at the moment, with broad cheekbones and straight black hair down to just past her shoulders.  Unfortunately I haven’t found as much that I like for the two of them yet, mostly because for some reason the Internet is not providing me with the very specific picture of “trans Japanese woman with dirt on her hands in a long skirt staring straight into the camera like she can see you” which is the ONLY THING I CAN EVER PICTURE of Shiko.  Shiko exists in my brain as someone staring into your soul with grave dirt on her hands and every time I find a picture that I might like for her, my brain goes “mmmm doesn’t look enough like she’s played rock paper scissors with Death and is therefore unimpressed with You Personally by comparison” and I have to go find something else.

UM PLEASE ELABORATE ON THE JARETH DND ADVENTURE, ONCE YOU HAVE IT.

Well, in an unprecedented moment of genius, my players opted to NOT fight the Level 17 Sorcerer/Bard Goblin King who could have served up their asses on a plate, and settled for lightning-striking the ever living shit out of the guy who hired them to steal something from the Labyrinth.

Highlights include:

Before we even started, there was an hour-long debate about whether either “mind-reading talking sloth” or “magical healing sloth” was a viable animal companion for a ranger

Having vetoed ‘mind reading’, ‘talking’, and ‘healing’ as acceptable sloth traits, there was another twenty minutes of debate about whether having a big-ass sloth on her back would make a halfling take dex penalties

The final result was a snake companion

Total party: elf ranger with snake, elf druid with hawk, elf sorcerer with otter.  More time and attention went into the animals than the characters, probably.  Very fragile party.

The druid was @lathori​, who knows me very well.

Me: *describes dry hills and a long, high wall of tan stone, with a maze on the other side.Druid: Is this the fucking Labyrinth?Me, already out for blood: Dance magic dance, assholes.

Party approaches stone-person NPC

Ranger: “Do you want some candy?”NPC: “I’m made out of fucking granite.”Ranger: “Do you want some rocks?”Sorcerer: “Is that cannibalism, though?”

I, the DM, foolishly wondered if I should do voices.  The sorcerer, without missing a fucking beat: “If you don’t do voices I’m walking home right now.”

Ranger, after killing a fox-woman who had already surrendered: “I think I’ve started down a dark path, I’ve got a taste for it now.”

Druid: Maybe we shouldn’t kill these people.Ranger: You’re a bear right now, you can’t talk.  I think we should kill them.

The ONE TIME the ranger didn’t immediately whip out her bow and start killing people was the ONE TIME the NPC’s were actually there with the intent to be fought, so naturally:

Ranger: “We’re with the Labyrinth Inspection Guild, how do you feel about the way you’re being treated?”  And I want to pull out the badge I made while we were taking shelter from the storm.Me: Under any other circumstances I absolutely would not let you just whip that out without telling me you made it ahead of time, but this is incredible, roll a bluff check.

Only one NPC passed the check and noticed it was made out of macaroni.

They managed to bribe their way out of the fight by creating fake jewels with Prestidigitation.

Ultimate outcome: party got their employer killed by GK himself, and walked away with 2000 gold each and their ex-employer’s house between the three of them.

So, uh, yeah, it was a weird one.

Hey, I just crossed the 900 follower mark, so, to y’all new folks, hi there!  I’m Starlight, thrilled to have you, welcome to it, etc, etc.

Now, the way this usually works is that I post a piece of original writing for each major follower landmark, but last time I tried to get creative and now I’m dealing with that.  Those of you who were around for 800 might remember this post about the AU of the novel I’m writing, which I was supposed to finish and post like a month ago.  In fairly typical style, I...did not do that.  But it’s done now so I’m going to post that for 900 followers, as well as a couple graphics that the magically wonderful @lathori is putting together.  So sit tight for that.

starlight: Nah man Magnus totally blurted it out the first time it passed through his mind.  She was doing something totally benign, it was before the uprising was even a thing, and he was looking at the way she waved her hands or the way she grinned when she was being sarcastic or some sappy shit like that, and he just thought wow I love her so much and without even thinking his mouth went "Wow I love you so much" and Julia stared at him for a minute and grinned and went "You're such a sappy shit, I love you too" and immediately went back to what she was doing.  

starlight: It was too soon for them to get married before the uprising started but Magnus has been thinking about it since that first time he realized he loved her, and then the uprising started and she idly suggested "hey, would you marry me someday maybe" and he was like "yes absolutely, love of my life, star of my days and nights, but I want to marry you when we're not doing it because we're afraid, I want to marry you because I want to spend my whole life with you and not because some rich bully is sending his thugs into our home, I want to marry you when we're safe and happy and can have exactly the wedding we want" and Julia stared at him and grinned and went "You're still a sappy shit".

starlight: And sometimes Magnus thinks about that, about how easy it was to say that he loved her, and he thinks that they should have said fuck it and gotten married right then and there because then at least he would have had a little more time with her, and then he thinks about how she would call him a sappy shit for that, and then he has to think about something else because otherwise he might start crying and never stop.

hey so what's the animorphs college au?

Right, so, I actually wrote the first chapter and put it on AO3 (PSA: the first chapter is basically just smut?  like, there will be more other stuff but the story is basically structured around a fuckbuddies-to-dating plotline, so: smut), but here is some of the behind-the-scenes of the Animorphs college AU.

So, I started reading @lathori the Animorphs books because we’re domestic like that and after two books she stared at me and went “There’d better be happy AU fic or I’m gonna kill you.”  And...um, there’s actually not a lot of happy AU fic for these books because we’re all fucking sadists, s/o to my fellow fucking sadists.  So in order to preserve my best friend’s sanity as well as my own life (um...she knows where I sleep, y’all), I agreed on a few happy AU’s to write for her.  The D&D AU and the College AU were the first two, and she wants me to write the Morph Dancer AU as well.

But the actual premise of the college AU is based around the idea that Rachel and her cousin Jake and her recently acquired best friend Cassie and his recently acquired best friend Marco all get assigned to a house living arrangement with two complete strangers.  (If this sounds absurd, let me assure you that this happened in my school, except only two of the people knew each other.)  The night before they move into their new housing assignment, the lot of them go to a party, where Rachel hooks up with the cute quiet guy from her Shakespeare class the previous semester.

Imagine her alarm when he shows up at the house the next morning with his Very Weird friend (Ax makes a weird human in any universe okay) with his one (1) bag of possessions plus a box of books.

The ensuing plot mostly revolves around Rachel and Tobias pretending not to have feelings about sleeping together while they try to leverage Jake and Cassie into so much as holding hands instead of nervously tiptoeing around each other the whole time.  Also, it includes Jake laying down some House Rules, such as #2: All house residents must be wearing AT LEAST pants and/or a shirt at all times in all public areas, as well as all pertinent underwear.  And also #5: No drinking on school nights in the house.  And also #8: Thou shalt not risk getting arrested for illegal purchase of alcohol when Ax’s adult brother is LITERALLY an hour away and willing to buy the stuff legally.

All I really have worked out for this is some general backstory and people’s majors, I haven’t even gotten through the second chapter, despite my best efforts.

Rachel and Jake intentionally went to the same college Anywhere But Home because Tom just got out of a cult and it was making life a little stressful with their parents hovering anxiously at all times.  Rachel switched from gymnastics to krav maga, jiu jitsu, and kickboxing when she was thirteen and is majoring in kinesiology so that she can open her own self-defense studio.  Jake is a history major and Rachel considers it her sacred duty to make sure he has a life outside of the library and the gym, which is how he meets Cassie, Rachel’s new best friend, and almost swallows his tongue.  Cassie is on the pre-med track so that she can become a vet, and fills all of her additional credit openings with ecology classes because she’s like that.  Marco is kind of idly majoring in comp sci because it’s what his dad does and he doesn’t have a really heavy interest in anything else, but at the end of his sophomore year he declares a poli sci major out of the fucking blue and crams his schedule to finish on time.  Tobias is an English major who wants to be a teacher, and also he has a minor in studio drawing and a fascination with birds.  And of course there’s Ax who, for some perverse reason, really genuinely loves physics and comp sci and manages to major in both at once through sheer enthusiasm.  And Elfangor is alive and kind of thrilled that his baby brother has Real Friends, and he comes over and hangs out at the house sometimes and is much beloved by all of them, not least because he provides them with advance copies of video games sometimes and also bought the house PlayStation.
