everyone else might already know this but i just think it’s funny that canonically The Cage takes place in 2254, so over 10 years before the start of Kirks first 5 year mission as captain. while SNW takes place around 2258-2260
(with the reveal of Carol Marcus being pregnant it would make most sense for it to be 2259 seeing as TSFS takes place in 2285, which would make David Marcus 25 at the time that movie takes place)
anyways, then the beginning of TOS is in 2265, and here’s a visual representation of why i find that funny (using spock as an example because he’s my favorite)
Spock and Pike circa 2254
Spock and Pike circa ~2258
and then back to Spock looking like this in TOS circa 2265 (Where No Man Has Gone Before was the second pilot but The Man Trap aired first so idk which takes place first in canon so here’s both)
also i know most people are probably just gonna ignore it but i would love to see an in-universe explanation for why the hair and clothing styles changed so much between snw and tos.

Thinking about how Bodies (2023) uses "representation" in such an intentional way. Every one of the four protagonists has an aspect about them which heavily affects how they relate to the era they live in. And how all four of them are police despite or even because of that.
Hillinghead. Gay in the Victorian era. He's defensive enough about it that he actively tries to arrest Henry when he finds incriminating photographs that display Henry's own sexuality. Hillinghead can't afford to let anything like that slip because what if it reflects back on him? Reflects back on his family, who he does care for dearly. He joined the police to hide and he plays the part for years until he realises what he may have missed out on.
Karl. Jewish in the 1940s. Changes the name he goes by to a name that sounds more stereotypically English, not because it's something he wants to be called, but so that he blends in. He hasn't been to the synagogue in years but he still knows where it is and he still returns there when he's not sure where else he can go. He's personable, but ultimately, not particularly trusting. And yet, he bonds with Esther almost immediately - a shared background goes a long way.
Shahara. Muslim in the 2020s. Is heavily aware of how race and perceived religion make a situation more dangerous when the police are involved. Is strong-armed by superiors into trying to approach Muslim witnesses because "only she is in the position to" and they know that she ultimately wants to help. She can't afford to refuse when she knows the consequences if she doesn't.
Iris. Disabled in the 2050s. This is a time where it's implied the world has largely left aside conflict relating to sexuality or religion. But despite mobility aids being available in her time, they're only available to those who "contribute". She has internalised the idea that she must sacrifice her autonomy to the state in order to live a life similar to an abled person, and that she must be thankful for this opportunity. Her brother had the same choice as her though, and he chose differently.

My life has now reached the point where I deadass just had a nightmare about getting a hangnail.
...Specifically, a hangnail that gets infected to the point of requiring hospital treatment due to a serious risk of the infection escalating into sepsis and requiring amputation. You'd think that sounds like a stupid thing to be afraid of, and I agree completely, except it's actually fucking happened to me before. Also the treatment involved blood draws and daily IV antibiotics, which was particularly miserable given my extreme phobia of needles, so I'd be pretty happy with never doing that again. Worst Christmas ever.
Though if nothing else, it's left me with a powerful respect for modern antibiotics. Literally less than a century ago, people could very plausibly die from a hangnail. God bless modern medicine.

My fanstand Modern Talking :]] More info about her under the cut:
Modern Talking (MT for short) is a medium-range stand. She has the ability to manipulate and transfer sound, which makes up for her uselessness in close combat.
MT can gradually enhance sound (to the point of it becoming destructive) or completely mute its source. She can move sound inside solid and liquid objects as if they were the source of it.
MT can also record and replay short messages, but any voices in it will sound like her user's. She can't produce any sound on her own.
MT's body gradually distorts and elongates (most noticeably in her spine, neck and joints) when her ability is active. She can target up to 5 sources of sound at once, but the more targets she has the quicker her body gets pushed to its limits. Extreme distortion brings her user physical pain.
MT's body recovers to normal when her ability is not active.
(she goes by she/they/it pronouns)

i do think it’s so funny that clay, who was only a character for one season and existed so that gay kevin could have a gay boyfriend, had more base personality traits than kevin who had been around since the beginning of the show
