Watering the Andi Mack fandom with my obscure headcannons and waiting for the fans to return like wildlife to the forest

- TJ loves cartoons. He loves She Ra and Steven Universe but he also watches OLD cartoons. He just loves cartoons and when Cyrus introduces him to fandom space he lurks like it’s the daily newspaper.

- Cyrus thinks the word boyfriend sounds SO nice and he says it any chance he gets. TJ of course thinks it’s really cute and doesn’t mind at all.

- Iris thought that Cyrus just didn’t like her, which she was super bummed about but okay with. So when she runs into Cyrus and TJ at the next  renaissance fair, it’s a little bit healing for her. I think their agreement to be friends becomes a little more viable this time and they start hanging out regularly.

- Jonah deserves to be a part of the Good Hair Crew and the way they tell him is by coyly being like wow Jonah your hair looks great today…great..? You might even say good. And he is just like “I thought great was better than good”

- TJ drops the jock thing after freshmen year of high school and starts dressing more polished, coupled with the fact that he now needs glasses. Come on, no one has a consistent style throughout their ENTIRE high school years.

- TJ and Cyrus are the couple that makes it, I know it I just know it. Anytime they have a fight or argument that they need to figure out Cyrus pulls out his binder and walks them through it by talking to himself in third person. “Now, Cyrus how does that make you feel? —…WELL BAD.”

- The Kippen siblings don’t even realize they are dating the same person basically until Iris and Cyrus become good friends again and then Amber and TJ just watch in horror as they OFTEN say the same thing at the same time.

- Cyrus did a whole grand promposal the day before TJ’s grand promposal so they had two

- Andi and Buffy have been in love since season 2 but they take until their senior year of high school to realize and actually start dating, everyone is relieved, especially Cyrus who had to help Andi through thinking she must just have a crush on [checks notes] every boy Buffy has dated

They have some amusingly straightbaity scenes where Michael initially appears to be interested in Ava (meeting her in a bar, asking questions about her, pursuing her to get her to do things with him and inviting her to kick ass with him) but almost all of these scenes are explicitly for plot reasons or end up displaying the closeness of Ava and Beatrice (and Beatrice’s jealousy over Ava seemingly being interested in a man) instead. Michael and Ava develop a strong close relationship that feels more sibling-esque by the end of season 2 and also Michael straight up dies at the end of season 2 as well.

neo, mew, and shin:

Before the show aired there was all this speculation over who Neo (a boy) was going to choose, Mew (a girl) or Shin (a boy). A lot of people suspected that Neo and Mew would get together and even though the trailers seemed to imply that there was something between Neo and Shin, that it wouldn't end well for them. Turns out the show went a completely different direction and ended up with polyamory with all three dating each other. That's what usually happens, anyways. However, studio trigger turned that premise on its head with Galo's budding relationship with Lio. In order to save Lio, Galo kissed him. They kissed.

mako, korra, and asami:

it's that one meme where the guy ignores his girlfriend to check out another girl, only the two girls get to know each other and get together. S1/2 has love triangle drama between who Mako will be with (Korra or Asami). S3 no one is together but Korra and Asami become really close friends. S4 Korra and Asami are together. Mako is single. Like the only example of exes being good friends and Not getting back together, as well as giving the middle finger to heteronormative assumptions when after the love triangle is over, the two girls get together Shipping the two girls in a love triangle together but it actually happens

Pat has a crush on Ink early on, and it seems possible at first that she may feel the same way. However, it is later revealed that she actually has a crush on his sister and is a lesbian. It's okay though because then Pat realizes he's in love with his childhood rival and they become wlw mlm solidarity! Everyone wins!

Okay so idk if anyone is reading this but just in case (or maybe for my sanity) I'll share some of my andi mack headcanons!

Kippen siblings (obviously bc kippen siblings are so fr)

Amber always teases TJ about Cyrus but she's actually really happy he's finally found someone who has made him a better person and who makes him happy

TJ teases Amber about Andi all the time but in retaliation Amber brings up Cyrus and TJ shuts all the way up

Every once in a while (more so when their parents were in a tough place financially) they'll have sleepovers (aka Amber comes into TJ's room with the cat Macaroni (I heard another author use this name in their fic and omg I can totally see TJ naming him that and Amber's like TJ what the fuck he's a CAT and TJ's like so? And so the cat was officially named after TJ's favorite meal) and lay on his bed until he wakes up to the sound of Macaroni's loud-ass purring straight in his hear and they talk about everything and nothing, but usually steer clear of anything too serious bc if they walk on that ground one of them is definitely gonna get mad and then nobody's happy) and sometimes Marty will join them (usually when he's having his own sleepover with TJ but then Amber intrudes bc she's Amber and she always wanted a little brother ("fuck you Amber!") and then TJ will threaten to hit her but he does nothing obviously bc he loves his siblings

Marty is like practically adopted by the Kippens and he's over there like 24/7 when he doesn't have track or basketball practice (he makes the freshman team when they get to high school bc I said so)

Andi Mack: I don’t know if this so much counts as an unpopular opinion so much as a really obscure headcanon with no foundation whatsoever but I love the idea of Iris and Marty being siblings and the GHC just. not having any idea, Kippen siblings-style

JATP: I actually headcanon Flynn as bi, although I definitely get why people see her more as a lesbian. Also I see Carrie as aro.

Shadow and Bone: I actually love that Jesper and Wylan got together so early - don’t get me wrong, I love their slowburn in the books, but this is fun too, and I’m kind of excited to get established Wesper for the Ice Court heist

Stranger Things: I’m not actually in the fandom so I’m not sure how unpopular this is, but the show hasn’t really been the same since season 2. I still very much enjoyed s3 & s4 (and I’m sure I’ll love s5 too), but I do feel like the later seasons lost some of the heart that grounded the show in the first place.

Not Me: Gram/Black/Gene is the superior endgame to that love triangle mess. They should have just all gotten together and called it a day

TJ enjoyed staying up late. The days are so busy and full he finds that he can only really relax at night, once the rest of the world has gone to sleep. But not him. He stayed up for far too long and was far too tired in the mornings when he had to wake up far too early. He regretted it when he had to force himself to stay awake during first period, but it didn’t stop him.

There wasn’t a lot he could do at night that he couldn’t do during the day. But he had time. It felt like the world would never wake up and he’d be able to live in his blissful bubble of peace and quiet forever. Nothing but the streetlights and his desk lamp to illuminate his room.

He spent a lot of time drawing, working on projects he wasn’t brave enough to show anyone else— not even Amber. Art was just one of those things that’s too telling. It makes him feel vulnerable and TJ doesn’t like that feeling.

What he spends the most time doing though, is thinking.

Everyone thinks a lot, but there was one thing that TJ couldn’t seem to get out of his mind and it drove him crazy. He couldn’t sleep. He and his ceiling often found themselves in a perpetual staring contest. He’d pick up his phone and stare at it until his eyes went dry, words filling his head and making their way out through his fingers before they’re quickly deleted again.

Cyrus Goodman refused to leave his mind.

Images danced around his head of the way Cyrus’ eyes crinkled when he smiled, how he’d trip over his own feet so much that’s not even phased by it anymore. The way he looked at TJ.

He looked at TJ like he cared about him— believed in him. Like he wanted him around. It was never indifference, he never forced it, it was 100% genuine. And TJ couldn’t get it out of his head. Everything flashed before his eyes in vivid detail and it drove him crazy. It was like a drug that he couldn’t get out of his system, but he wasn’t sure if he wanted to.

When he got tired of typing out messages he’d never send he’d sit himself next to the window and stare at the moon. He’d think about Cyrus. Was he staring at the moon too? Did he think about TJ just as much as TJ thought of him? Did he… Did he feel what TJ was feeling? Did he ever want to yell to the sky about the words that went unsaid while everyone was asleep and the confessions could be passed off as a hazy dream.

He’d often find himself staring at the moon and begging for answers he knew would never come.

TJ never dared to actually say too much out loud, in fear of waking somebody up or somebody awake hearing him. He would just let his mind wander. He would recount the time he had with Cyrus, or the lack of it. He’d think about his time with Kira, and if he was actually making the impact he was hoping for. He knew Kira wasn’t a bad person, but she was making it hard for TJ to prove it. He didn’t like the way she treated Cyrus, but he wanted to help her the way Cyrus had helped him. But part of him knew he couldn’t. It wasn’t the same. It was missing that connection, that feeling he got in his chest when he was around Cyrus was unmatched with anything he’d ever felt in his life; he especially didn’t get that with Kira. It was more like his stomach dropped when a notification with her name appeared, and it wasn’t her fault, he just knew this wasn’t what she wanted it to be. Or what he wanted it to be.

But with Cyrus, he was able to be himself. He could laugh and joke around and tease and be vulnerable. Cyrus was easy to be vulnerable around. TJ was okay being vulnerable around Cyrus. He had never had people like that, he couldn’t talk to anybody the way he talked to Cyrus. He and Amber got along well, and he knew if he ever needed her she’d be there, but the comfort he felt around Cyrus was unmatched. It was like he always knew what TJ needed to hear. Nobody had ever understood him like that.

TJ jumped between his bed, the window, and his desk as the minutes passed and he was fully aware of the bags beneath his eyes weighing down his eyelids. Finally he turned off his lamp and let his thoughts disperse. The only thing left as he fell into sleep was Cyrus, Cyrus, Cyrus.

Cyrus enjoyed waking up early. Maybe “enjoyed” was a strong word, but he didn’t mind it all that much. He found himself often waking up much earlier than was needed for school, but found it nice. He watched the world wake up before him, the birds would sing their morning songs and fight over their breakfasts, the crickets would chirp their melodies and wind would blow through the neighbors wind chimes. The sun makes its way into the sky and creates new color palettes for the day. Cyrus loved watching it happen.

It was rather calm. No bustling cars yet, no dog leashes rattling, no children playing, no conversations making their way up the stairs from the kitchen. Everyone is still asleep, except for Cyrus.

He likes to use this time to journal. He knows he’d probably get teased by his friends for keeping a journal but he didn’t care. He knew it was silly, any teasing wouldn’t bother him much anyways. Plus, he loved journaling. He loved writing down his thoughts and feelings, describing his good (and bad) days in vivid detail and adding pictures and decorating the pages with colorful pens. It was fun. He especially loved it as the golden beams of sunlight flow onto his window sill and illuminate the pages.

Recently his brain has taken up thinking about TJ Kippen, much to Cyrus’ displeasure. Not because he didn’t like TJ, the opposite actually. He really liked TJ. And for a while he had let himself actually think that maybe he liked him back. But then TJ met Kira, and the time TJ spent with Cyrus began to fizzle out and it almost hurt Cyrus to spend time with him. He always enjoyed his company, it just hurt knowing he didn’t feel the same after all.

But he was confused, because it really had seemed like they were hitting it off. Their talks on the swings, their text messages, not to mention that TJ asked Cyrus to do a matching costume with him. The constant side hugs and shoulder pats, the high-fives that they both let their hands link together for longer than they’re supposed to. Cyrus really thought there was something there.

Wasn’t there?

He’d expressed all this in his journal before. As the sun rises he watches the lights glide across his pages, almost as if the sun herself is reading his entries. He wonders what she would have to say about it. If she has any advice for him, any opinions. But he never heard back from her. He’s on his own on this one.

After his entries he stretches out his cramped limbs and makes his way to the bathroom to start getting ready for school. He stops in front of the mirror, thoughts of TJ and Kira still swirling around his head. Is he missing something? He hates himself for thinking it, but he swore there was something between him and TJ. Maybe Cyrus sent the wrong messages and TJ decided to move on. But that’s not fair, the least he could’ve done is share his secrets with Cyrus. Let him know how he’s supposed to get over their facetime calls, their hangouts at the spoon, their inside jokes. How he’s supposed to pretend that TJ’s smile doesn’t send an army of butterflies to invade Cyrus’ stomach. How does he erase the sound of TJ’s laughter after Cyrus tells him a joke that his other friends hadn’t understood? The way TJ’s green eyes are always soft and welcoming, and make him feel like he’s safe with him.

Cyrus couldn’t help but wonder if TJ ever got up early and watched the town slowly rise to the lively state everyone is accommodated to. If he’s ever just wanted to yell into the sky the things they were too afraid to do when everyone was awake. If he could ask the sun he would, but he knows she’s not much of a gossip.

He knew it was naïve to think he had a chance with TJ, but he couldn't help the curiosity. He’s spent many sleepless nights wishing for answers— his ceiling was probably bored of his staring.

He wondered if TJ’s ceiling was bored too.

Throwing this all the way back to when Tarty exes was super trendy

- I have always pictured Iris, Marty, and the Kippen siblings being childhood best friends. Marty and TJ became super close in school and Iris and Amber were best friends so naturally a little group formed.

- Amber, TJ, and Marty are the bad influences while Iris is along for the ride. The most this amounted to was watching scary movies that were slightly too intense, causing Iris TJ to force someone to follow him everywhere for the rest of the night.

- Marty and TJ would play house and be the dads taking care of a baby while Amber and Iris would be pretending to be rich sophisticated business women.

- All four of them would play basketball together, but TJ and Amber would become super competitive and end up fighting. MEANWHILE Marty and Iris would slowly back away and play somewhere else.

- They all went on a HUNT for dandelions while Iris taught them how to make dandelion crowns. Once they all had one they played prince/princesses.

- TJ just called Marty his boyfriend one day and Marty was like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ okay. They dated until Marty was like wait I should probably be gay.

- Amber and Iris take a long time to get together. After their falling out they don’t reunite until their Senior year of high school, in which they both spend the entire year pining and making up for lost time before Amber finally bridges the gap fully by asking her to prom.

- Sometime after the finale the four of them get together to watch a scary movie and hang out like old times. Iris and Amber cuddle for the first time since they were younger and both of them can hardly breath. TJ just looks over at all of them and how they’ve all grown, realizing that the best things can come back to you when you least expect it.
