One of my less close friends got asked to prom today and I was super happy for her! She's relatively new to the school and she's pretty quiet until you get to know her. Earlier today she said she didn't expect to get asked this year so we were both pleasantly surprised when at the end of the day, someone asked her :)

She quickly expressed her hopes that we would be in the same date group because I was the only person she was comfortable with. It surprised me because although she's quiet, one of my best friends had spoken highly of her more than once and I'd seen her talk to other people. As someone who frequently wonders whether I do make much of a difference, it meant a ton to me that I was making her high school experience better. I was just being a decent human being to her but she said most people weren't as nice as I was, which is pretty sad if you ask me.

So, if any of you are wondering whether you do make a difference with just friendly smiles and conversation, you do. It might not be the same light as others bring, but somebody's day was made better because you exist. That kind thing you did today eased somebody's pain, even if you didn't see it. Even if it was small.

Maybe you didn't really try today to do something good, but somewhere out there, somebody smiled just because of you :)

Big sister advice for the day is to not talk shit. Like so genuinely. Only say compliments about people behind their backs, it makes people like you and trust you more. If you have nothing nice to say when someone is mentioned, say nothing. It’s good practice and nice words will eventually be second nature to your brain. And then suddenly you’re not being so mean to yourself anymore either because your brain has created a new habit.

Learning about the Doctor Who specials' expanded budget: oh no, what if they overuse CGI to look more 'professional' and high-budget?

The first scene of the Doctor Who Special:
