hi do you have Krillin relationship headcanons? canon or otherwise? 👀👀👀👀

I will be honest with you, anon. I don't often think on it these days. HOWEVER!!!! for you, I have,,,, formulated a response i think mostly encapsulates my feelings on the matter.

Krillin is, by far, the most lovable character of all of dragon ball. objectively, even. He is cute, nice, and very self-sacrificing. Every one of his friends has probably seen this trait and agreed that krillin is worth protecting and loving. etc etc.

That being said!!!!! i think krillin inserts veeerry nicely with very many ships, most being non-canon, obvi. The only krillin ships i actively ship are k18, a lil sprinkle of gokrill, and some latenight thoughts of bulkrill (?) bulma and krillin. whatever their shipname is.

that being said, krillin is one of those characters that when i see crackships and such with him its more like a pleasant surprise because he's usually overlooked. i think he deserves some crackship au fics and fanarts sometimes....

anyways. getting into it. here are some thoughts i have... and some ship stuff.

Krillin's love languages are probably acts of service and physical touch. When he receives an act of service, he is so deeply touched to the bottom of his heart that he probably cant help but feel a little indebted, no matter how that gift or service was intended.

on that note, he is just genuinely kind, so he will give out services out of the kindness of his heart. when others see that genuine kindness, that is what pulls them in.

he is not immune to bickering and playing and fighting. teasing back and forth is in his nature, no matter if he ends up the butt of a joke LMAO. i don't think he really minds.

Goku

goku is someone he met as a young teen and they bonded after a brief rivalry while studying under the same master, and they became quick best friends after experiencing the same hardships in their training. this is literally the setup to every #1 shounen m/m ship I've seen. literally. rivals to best friends to lovers is IT for everyone ever. i think people should take a gander at og db and really get a wholesome view of the trope. because krillin and goku both have so much kindness to go around its just them bouncing off encouragement and some dumbassery back and forth.

Bulma

bulma is another early teens friend, and they have truly been on many adventures together. I think the filler in namek saga kinda turned me off from it a bit, but without all of that, i really just think about how they were able to spend so much time together in an enclosed space and not kill each other? i think some married couples cant do that. they would make a good duo in that sense for sure.

it helps that they have a VERY established dynamic of bulma taking the lead and krillin following and helping, and taking action where necessary. they have a long history together and know when to defer to the other, yahknow?

well,, k18 is canon and it gives us a pretty solid amount of information about their dynamic as a couple that i really like. 18 fell in love with krillin's kindness, and krillin opened his heart to a former enemy and gave them a home and a place to belong. genuinely you cant tell me this isn't the best canon ship in dragon ball. i wont believe it and i wont trust any of your opinions if you don't think they're objectively the best least toxic family unit.

one of my silly little headcanons is that they actually had a lot of trouble conceiving, so they cherish little marron like she is the whole world. because she is, as all parents should, but when you spend years trying for a baby and finally get some fruit,,, idk its a little different.

that moment in the saiyan saga, when yamcha lies down his life because krillin has already died previously... that is so huge to me.

So actually we wound up playing boggle so it's later than I meant for it to be when getting to these. But I'm finally upstairs under my blankets with my heating pad doing damage control to my back. So I'm ready.

So in my new wip, Pirate Story, our main girl is Mariyen, right? Funny thing about her creation.

I have this floater oc, Marion, who is sort of a self-insert, sort of not, and Mariyen is sort of kind of the self-insert of Marion, who already is an oc. Like. Mariyen sounds very similar to Marion when said out loud. And that's on purpose.

In this incarnation, Marion is a stunt/fight choreographer who does sword fighty stuff a lot, and then she dreamed up Mariyen as a self-insert - this is who exists in my one piece fic - and then I thought too much about it and had to remove Mariyen from her self-insertception and give her a whole new story to frolic about it. Or not frolic, as she's a person rather devoid of joy in the beginning. But uh yeah. My brain is weird.

5. does your self insert have any special powers or abilities? Yes! since he is half m/ink he has electro powers, and it has some experience with a dagger (its able to use swords too but it is better skilled using just a dagger, and is the weapon of choice / carries on himself) He charges the electro into the weapon when fighting (get stabbed and shock at once! ouch!) He also has sharp nails he will also fight with those depending on the opponent, good for scratching especially when like combined with the electro!! He has sharp teeth as well he could use for fighting but he'd prefer not to,,, Keeping that more like sacred- saving lil bites/nibbles for people he actually likes and is fond of (gnawing on them as a form of stimming and showing affection) But he will bite a bitch for violence/defense if he has too but he'd rather not,,, save the chomps for playfulness, much to Brook's chagrin lmao

So m/inks normally have S/ulong forms they transform into when they see a full moon (They get like glowing eyes, white longer fur, as well as stronger/bigger as well,, like big time power up!!) Gideon however does not have this ability (or so he thinks 👀) since he is only like half Mink,,, tho during the full moon he does get more stronger when seeing it, just to a lesser degree and without the transformation,,, However!! 👀👀👀 AU time with E/nel ✨ actually being on the moon itself is different story!! "Surprise surprise" he does have a S/ulong from! Since being on the moon itself has a stronger effect then just seeing it down from the earth,,, Unfortunately for Gideon since during this timeline,,, It doesnt get to learn about its heritage, since he leaves the S/traw H/ats,,,, so he never gets K/uma yeeted to an island where a bunch of M/inks live, and he doesnt get to go to Z/ou 😔😔😔 Thats where he learns alot about his powers and abilities and such, ect ect,,, at this point in the story he is basically in the dark about his heritage,,,,,, So once like E/nel and him actually get to the moon,,, like transforming like that was a shock! M/inks can to transform back to their normal forms just by keep their eyes covered from the view of the full moon (so sunglass or even just cloud coverage will stop the transformation) just going inside a building where the moon is no longer visible can also stop it,,, but if a M/ink stays in their S/ulong form for too long they can loose themselves if they arent trained properly (which Gideon is not atp) So while on the moon with E/nel,,, after they both figure out whats going on ((this post is already long so i wont lore dump with all of that here lol)) Gideon mostly has to stay on the ark, or keeps his eyes covered with like a bandana/wrapping cloth of some kind when he leaves the ship,,,, Queue cute moments of E/nel holding Gideon's hand having to guide him around on the moon since Gideon cant see where he is going 🥰🤭 tho thinking about E/nel teaching Gideon M/antra / O/bservation H/aki,,, so he can become somewhat capable of moving about the moon

edit: scrapping that idea, since idk how a m/ink would react to being on the moon within canon, since like m/inks need to see the full moon to transform,,,, and being on the moon is like obvi closer then seeing it down from earth, but technically you wouldnt be seeing it in full if you were on it (you would just see whats in your field of vision) so idk if a m/ink would actually transform 🤔

genevieve ashmont is her name! as for her birthday, i don’t actually know… but she uses she/her pronouns and she’s abt 5’3-ish w brown hair + dark eyes… she’s the second youngest daughter in her family (has an older brother, older sister, and a younger sister) and widely considered a bit of a mess. she’s very gifted and smart, it’s jst that she sometimes gets sidetracked and isn’t particularly good at being a socialite. also she gets into trouble a lot ✌🏻😁 i mean, she has to. it’s required.

2. when in canon does your self insert come in? do you have a scene in mind for your entrance?

i have no clue, actually…i don’t rlly think she’s important to the main plot!! she probably died back when jack tried to drop sablier into the abyss, so.. hmm. yeah. probably her entrance scene is little vincent walking through the carnage and seeing her lay dead there 🥰 oswald killed her himself. it’s okay, she understands!!

but yeah, she’s jst part of the past! oswald ESP didn’t want her to become a chain, so she was the first person he killed. :((( it was sad.

3. how do the other characters generally feel about your self insert?

she’s generally well-liked!! she’s seen as a very sweet and friendly person that sometimes forgets her boundaries, while also being very tranquil abt things that are definitely not something to be tranquil abt.. basically she’s almost died an upwards of four times by now (oswald doesn’t know how.. she’s literally jst an aristocrat, how does she end up in this situations), and each time, she’s shrugged it off. ?????? anyway, most ppl look at her + want to be her friend and also want to keep her out of trouble. good luck w that, but it’s sweet to try!

9. who are your self insert’s closest friends?

LOTTIEEEEEEE. obvi fang and lily are her friends too, because she’s always so close to lottie. but yea, she and lottie are inseparable. oh, she’s also friendly w dug! again—obviously, she’s close to lottie, so of course she ends up being friends w everyone else :)

11. what kind of outfit(s) does your self insert wear?

she rlly likes gardening!!! plus she’ll sometimes dig bugs out of the garden jst to study them. she likes going on hikes and observing nature + she has a field journal where she’ll keep track of everything she observes and such. once she discovers that there’s more creatures than those of the natural world, she adds them to her observations!!! she also likes to read :)

15. how does your self insert play a role in the plot of the story? do they help directly defeat the villain, support the heroes, etc.?

she’s, like, the sort of strange governess figure for gil and vincent when they were younger + she’s there to add to the distress and trauma of vincent, gil, and oswald. mostly she’s jst tragic backstoryyyy—BUT she does want the best for her boys, even though she’s dead. that does mean she’s actively trying to stop oswald from trying to go back in time and kill lacie. if he does that, that means they never get to meet…. how could he do that to her :(

I think one of my favorite soulmate aus (tied into my shameless self inserts obvi) is just, hearing what music they listen to. And I tend to think it's like, you can just tune in to see if they're listening to something - it's not constant bc that'd be annoying as hell. It's just like a little soulmate radio station you can check in on.

And so Snape in this au KNOWS he has a soulmate but he doesn't know any of the music his soulmate ever listens to. He tries searching for the music to find them and cannot even find a band name, let alone the songs themselves and he's so confused and stressed because it's the one good thing in his life and he can't even find them, he can't even have that in his life. None of the Marauders or anyone believes him, they just think he's pretending to hear music and making up songs to pretend no one knows them. ("My girlfriend lives in Canada you wouldn't know her", if you will)

And then one day someone transfers from like America or something, and all they listen to is music that never actually made it across the ocean to be popular or known in any way. Usually just smaller bands that are kind of local to one area of the states even, not even nationally known.

And they're like, chilling with someone, who knows, and Snape is either in the vicinity or in the room, and they're like hey listen to THIS. And Snape for the first time in his life hears a song in real life and not just his head and he's like. Oh. Of course. That's why I never knew the music.

And now he needs to figure out how to communicate to this person that he's their soulmate without them a) being disappointed, b) thinking he's lying, and c) embarrassing the hell out of himself.

Also he spends so much time listening to his soulmate's music to try to figure out who they are that he hardly ever listened to his own stuff, so his soulmate thinks they don't have one OR that their soulmate is deaf, which is a problem he created on his own and now he has to try to figure out how to solve it.

Idk. I just love the idea of Snape finding his soulmate and the biggest issue being "okay how do I break it to them in the best way without being creepy or annoying" and stressing himself out, meanwhile his soulmate is just like "hey this guy's cute we're probably not soulmates but I wonder if he's single".

Super random question - Joe's super independent, awesomely cool girlfriend/life partner/lover/room mate or whatever we should refer her as, in your mind when you were writing her did you have an image to what she looks like? I have my thoughts and its just interests me 💛

Hahahah!! girlfriend/lover for sure!! LOL.

I do my best to leave my yn's pretty ambiguous considering they are "reader inserts", like, whomever is reading them is supposed to picture themselves in there, right? that's what I caught onto when i first joined fandom and I do my best to not write in certain words/etc that would make yn a specific race/weight/whatever. So you're free to always picture the yn's in my stories however you would like to!

BUT, because it is a fantasy right, I tend to have an image of myself at whatever age yn is supposed to be that's my like, 24 year old self when i was actually in shape & active and working out all the time lol. if that makes sense?

The one thing that does vary in each story is personal style, like, in Seeing Red where yn was a Calhoun, she was obviously much more high end fashion, hair always done, that kinda thing.

SO, in that sense, I think that Joe's Under Over yn has two different kind of styles to her, her UC style, which is obvi very form fitting, show offish/slutty style clothing, hair immaculately done, nails, full face of makeup kinda thing. And then her outside the penthouse/as a cop is more casual, kinda like early seasons Rollins or Erin Lindsay over from Chicago PD. Jeans and button ups, hair probably alternates between being down and being pulled up out of the way. if she's not working i think she's pretty casual, comfy clothing, leggings, that kinda thing. Nothing too outrageous when it comes to makeup, unless it's fancy date night kinda thing.

am i a good writer? no sort of! no self depreciation here! anyways, here are random headcanons about bruce wayne because i watched the movie again and since this is a brain dump i’m sure there’s typos but idc also this is pretty much sfw so! k enough rambling

i feel like he likes gifts and little trinkets; he’s not hard to shop for despite being a billionaire that pretty much already has everything. he'll take anything as long as it's from you :) like i can imagine you getting him some cheesy little keychain from a random airport souvenir shop and he’d put the keys to the batmobile on it and never take it off :,)

he LOVES to hear you rant about things you're passionate about. preferably, he'll be lying on the couch and you'll be lying in his arms. he'd play with your hair while you go on and on about the latest episode of *insert your favorite show here* and smile softly to himself about how cute your being :))

he would be a horrible texter at first, let's be honest 😭 but as he gets more comfortable it actually becomes his favorite way to communicate with you (besides talking to you obvi). he loves that he can plan what to say without the danger of awkward pauses that calls or facetime can bring. he never uses emojis (unsurprisingly) but he does like to send these :) smileys because you always seem to like those (and he learned it from you heehee)

he's SO SO attentive and it’s the cutest. he picks up on your every move, every gesture, and every facial expression. he almost always seems to know what you want before you even ask for it

he literally has the most expressive eyes ever it actually drives me insane but- i just feel like it would be so easy to not pay attention to what he’s saying and only be staring into them 💀 like i *know* he wouldn’t be the best at eye contact at first, but your eyes are just so pretty that it makes him want to try a little harder to be better at it :,) 

 i feel like his most sensitive spots would be the grooves of his neck (like on either side of his adam’s apple), his hands & fingers, and his ears

speaking of ears, this man loves when you play with his ears. don’t ask me why, i just feel like he just would. like imagine this. he’s in the kitchen, facing you and talking about something. you run your hands through his hair, you rest your hands on his ears, and your thumbs start caressing over them. combine this with you looking up at him and nodding your head at whatever he’s saying?? u would have this man thinking very impure thoughts hshsksjd

i don’t know why (just kidding i know exactly why it’s when he tilts Selina’s chin up in the movie) but i feel like this man definitely loves to hold up your chin so you can look at him. or honestly just touch any part of your face. he’s forever brushing off invisible pieces of lint on you just so he can touch you. smoothing over your eyebrows with his thumbs, putting his hands on both your cheeks, randomly running his index finger on your nose bridge because he loves your nose, literally everything. he loves it

he’s literally mesmerized by everything you do. he loves watching you do anything: cooking, reading, sleeping, etc. he just feels so lucky to have you :,)

but he’s also terrified of losing you, and for this reason it would probably take him forever to actually open up to you. you’ll probably be the first one to say “i love you”, and you have to be okay with the fact that he very well might not say it back right away :( but it’s only because he loves you so much that he doesn’t even know how to quantify or express it, and that alone would probably terrify him because he never wants to experience the same pain that he felt when he lost his his parents (whom he obviously loved very very much) 

i feel like the first time he would say “i love you” wouldn’t be in like, a rom-com type of way where he kind of just blurts it out over the phone or something, but it would definitely be at some random time when the two of you were alone. he probably would have been thinking about it for the entire day before he had the courage to say it.

like just imagine. you’d both be hanging out together in bed, and you would be reading or doing something random and he would just look over at you, stare for a second, and quietly go “i love you.” knowing me, i would literally start smiling so hard, grab his face, and start violently attacking his face with kisses and saying “i love you too” a thousand times (💀) and he would start blushing so hard :,,))

does bruce wayne dance? absolutely not... unless it’s with you :) i would like to think that he would have a sunday tradition with you where after breakfast, you would put a vinyl on the record player and he would push the table out of the way. could you really call what the two of you were doing dancing? probably not 💀 it’s more of you two swaying but do you really care? no. because right now, your feet are balancing on top of his, he’s holding you and rocking you back and forth like he’s never gonna let go, and he smells like the lavender detergent lingering on his clothes and the french cologne that alfred always buys for him :,))

7. What do you love most about being a fic writer for your fandom?

The people in it. 🥺 We all write for some kind of validation, obvi, and because something about the source material spoke to us in a way that maybe other things we enjoy didn’t—but idk, fandom would be nothing if it wasn’t made up of other people, and i really like the ones in our corner. 🥺 i think a big fandom like BNHA can crumple under it’s own weight, and Lord knows we haven’t been problem free, as a community, but idk… i like us for the most part. :’) i think u guys are nice and fun. 🌷

9. What inspired you to write your first fic?

Tiktok!!!! Tiktok introduced me to the concept of self-insert fic and then i found some—namely @andypantsx3 LOL—and the rest was history, i wanted to join in the fun—so i did :’)))))))

first fav is @reptile-ruler , their febuwhump stuff is amazing and mishaps is REALLY good, tbh mishaps has a lot of tropes i usually dont like but reptile-ruler does them so well that the stuff i dont like about those tropes isnt really.... there

(for instance i hate zim assimilating into human culture because he just kinda ignores everything about him being irken and the authors tend to treat irk as some kind of Monolithic Badplace... but in mishaps while zim has assimilated he still feels a struggle and still has irken values... the ending of the unwanted visitors (which i wont spoil) is the culmination of that and its amazing)

also the drifters au fucks hard and its one of my fav aus

very close second is @depressed-zimothy! training days is, and i am not exaggerating, exactly what ive always wanted in a fanfic. the red and zim stuff is fucking stellar and there are so many nuances about the characters if u examine the text a little more... i should leave comments on it tbh

also catalyst is amazing and u can see my two essay comments explaining why right there on the fic so i wont repeat myself here (but read the fic first obvi)

firewall is part of @reynaruina‘s ponytail dib AU and it is honestly fucking stellar. i recommend this thing to everyone i know and in my opinion it is THE computer fic. genuinely everyone should read this, even if you dont want to read the rest of the au or even zadr at all. please computer is so good in it. 

in the beginning note there’s a paragraph explaining the basics of the au so you can read with no prior knowledge of PT dib but ill do you one better: the immediate context for firewall is that there was a blackout at zim’s house, and zim and dib were finally starting to get it on with each other during it. computer fixed the lights and turned them back on, and dib saw his reflection in the (off) TV. he gets upset seeing himself and leaves, so zim is angry at computer. and that’s right where firewall starts

please read firewall. im on my knees begging. computer in firewall is fucking sublime and the perfect blend of irritated and dad. literally no other computer portrayal compares. firewall was, is, and always will be The Standard.

ersatz is another amazing one, the zim angst is sublime and hes never like, a fuckin uwu sadbaby. but you still feel so, so sorry for him and what he’s going through. the author really knows how to pack a punch without exhausting the reader and as someone who specializes in angst i can respect that. (fun facts: i love this fic so much that mirforn, an irken painkiller featured in it, is in ANX as A Loving Reference that i will absolutely credit and also shill for ersatz in the author’s notes)

300 days of zim is really good if you like self-inserts! it’s gender-neutral and in second-person so its really immersive, and zim is just so good in it, he retains all his zimmy goodness but there’s a certain softness (in a way) that makes you fall in love with him

speaking of self inserts, @majentaffy‘s tallest magenta series is a fucking stellar series! red and purple are amazing and its honestly one of the most in-character portrayals of them ive ever seen! though i like both of them, im personally more a fan of the invader red series (also a self-insert series) where red takes zim’s place on earth, basically. both series are gender-neutral and in second-person just like 300 days up there

hit me is a rapr classic. thats really all i have to say about it, most of my tallest-loving friends have read it at some point. i reread it on occasion; its an elite-era fic, and a slight au in this is where they meet. its lovely

begin is a human au i personally really like because it has a lot of hyperspecific headcanons of mine in it but it could be a personal taste thing. try it out tho!

there was also this other human au where purple was a drifter and red worked at a diner and sizz-lorr was his boss. it legit felt like an original short story and this made me go out and fucking find it again. its called hand in unlovable hand give it a try

i read canvas years ago and the ending still sticks to me today. it’s a oneshot songfic where the gist is that red’s hooked on drugs. it sounds like its gonna be bad and melodramatic but i actually really like it, it surprises you. it surprised me, too. it’s first person but it really does sound like red is talking. i’m extremely picky with first person (i never read it outside of this) but canvas does it right. please, please i implore you, give canvas a chance. you won’t regret it, i promise

why didn’t we just shoot him? is an amazing exploration on the tallests’ defectiveness and that’s all im going to say on that

all 4 works by this author are part of the same series, but they’re not in a series tag. i just call the series mudroom, after the first one i read. it’s an acquired taste and PLEASE heed the warnings, but i like it so its here

and last but certainly not least, when the time comes is unique in that when the plot changes i dont groan and go “aww, but i like the old stuff!” it goes to a lot of places but personally it feels like each event is a natural consequence of the previous one. dib’s a bit of a dick in it lmfao and zim so far is going thru a trauma conga line but i respect that it doesnt pretend to be anything its not. its a porn-with-plot with angst and sometimes thats just what you fucken need sometimes

He didn’t have a lot of experience with bad friendships

OH MY GOSH. Thank you SO much for this, like ... I've read it, re-read it, and read it again and I'm just so HAPPY. I love that you love College!EZ (and yes, more is coming soon!) -- It was brought to my attention that maybe I write College!EZ a bit like how show Angel is now in terms of cockiness and that overall kind of self-assuredness.

Maybe that's why I'm having so much fun with him. But EZ is definitely distinct in his own ways, and I'm having a lot of fun exploring that too.

I'm so glad you like my tags, esp. the ones about Frida -- I want to make every "reader insert" feel so distinct, and the reason I'm hesitant to call her an OC is because I want everyone to feel like they could be Frida -- and also, I see so many things and people that just speak to me as "yes, that's Frida!" and I don't want to limit myself, or other peoples' visions of her, or any character I write really. @montygreen​ tagged me in this ages ago but I have been having the nuttiest couple of weeks so it took me a hot sec to get to this, but I do appreciate it and if you somehow don’t already follow leila on here, you should go do that rn

now down to business :) 

1) How many works do you have on AO3? only 3 at the moment! 

2) What’s your total AO3 word count? 45238 as of today 

3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they? just never have i ever! although i’m sure there are a few unfinished, never-published, years-old stories from assorted fandoms from when I was younger floating around in the void somewhere

4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

haha well I’ve only got 3 published, but the number one spot goes to vanilla ice cream, which makes sense since it’s the only one i’ve actually finished so far 🙈

5) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

none of them? i feel like the reason i often read fic is because there is some unresolved canon-angst that i want someone else to resolve so while i definitely have points of tension, all of my stories tend to end (or are planned to end) happy  

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

i think vanilla ice cream will still probably be the fluffiest bc of that epilogue i decided to write last minute, even once i finish all the others. but they’re all pretty happy 🥰

7) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

not so far, though i try to make it a habit to never say never. I think its one of those things that’s really difficult to write well and I’m just not sure it’s in my skillset to do so. but who knows? maybe one day! 

8) Do you write smut? If so what kind?

9) Do you respond to comments, why or why not? 

I really try to answer all of them, although I know I missed a bunch while I was on a sorta unplanned writing hiatus. It’s only been a year of me posting anything I’ve written and it still genuinely baffles me that people not only read but also enjoy the things I put out there into the world, so every “thank you for reading” is from the heart for me and it’s so worth taking the two seconds to make my appreciation known. 

10. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

no, thankfully! i think part of that is just i haven’t been around that long haha

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

i don’t... think so? 

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

no but how cool is that? i wasn’t even really aware that was a thing that could happen! 

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

no! but if anyone wants to feel free to hmu 👀 i am super busy rn but i would love to eventually cuz so many of the folks who write for this show are so talented

14) What’s your all time favorite ship?

oh gosh. all time is really, really hard. obvi for NHIE i’ve fully boarded the ben/devi train, but some other all time TV faves of mine are ben/leslie from parks&rec, david/patrick from schitts creek, and josh/donna from the west wing. you might be able to tell i love a rivals to lovers moment from some of these lol 💀 but there are so many that i love for different reasons it’s like picking a favorite child lmao

15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I do have plans to finish the 2 remaining fics up on ao3, but I will admit, the rosy dot over the i of loving was... ambitious, and not exactly well thought out when I started it. so it may be a while. i haven’t started much else new since those 3 went up, since i’ve been trying to finish what i’ve started. but i have had this ben/devi idea rattling around in my brain ever since i read the book “the unhoneymooners” that I am just not sure i’ll ever quite get around to. 

16) What are your writing strengths?

i like to think i’m pretty good at writing dialogue! in college, i took a creative writing class for playwriting, where it was drilled into our head that you want to get as much of the story as humanly possible out through words, rather than actions. basically my professors argument was that any stage direction could be ignored by a director if the action/object/setting/etc. wasn’t directly referred to in lines said by a character. so if it was important to you, we should make someone talk about it! i think because of that my narration tends to be a little sparser (but hopefully that’s to the benefit of the dialogue!!)

oh, and i also took a class in humor writing and got an A, so.... 👀

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

i think i could be a lot better at coming up with themes/symbols/metaphors/etc. Having not really planned out the WIPs on AO3 now, this was hard to do, so I guess that also goes hand in hand with my time management haha. But yeah I find it a little difficult to have those sorts of literary devices in longer works (i used to write a lot more poetry and it was a little easier for me in that format so i have faith that i can get better).

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

i only fluently speak english and you do not want to see me butcher french or german, let alone a language I’ve never taken courses in. so it’s a hard no for me personally haha. that said if you know more than another language, first of all i’m jealous, and second of all, go for it! 

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

i don’t really know! like i said i used to write things without publishing them anywhere, so it’s hard to remember. maybe harry potter, when I was like 10? i feel like i probably wrote the same self-insert hogwarts moment that literally every 10 year old in the late-aughts was writing haha

i know for sure there was a b99 fic that was almost published on ao3 back in like season 2 or 3? that’s why my username is what it is 😊

20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

i’m really proud of finishing vanilla ice cream. buuuut i am also really proud of the poems in the rosy dot over the i of loving and i think if i ever finish that one, it will be my favorite for pushing me out of my writing comfort zone.

okay now I’m imagining golden wind as an otome

It’s called something cheesy and dumb like Burning Passione, obvi it’s gender neutral reader like the arcana, everyone is 18 or older and they all are alive, and mc= main character/reader (I like using mc instead of ‘you’ or s/o bc it allows for the input of characters as well as self-inserts while still being gn!)

Giorno as the shy yet serious type, always off on ‘business’, probably has a story conflict art where mc confronts him about cheating and he reveals he’s the don of passione, leaving them speechless (but kinda horny ooh) and the route closes with them becoming the don’s prized s/o

Bruno as the overworked, tired, stern fatherly guy and right hand to the don, but the charming and fun lover when he has time to spare with mc. His route is about him being distant at first, torn over his love for mc and not wanting to involve them in mafia affairs, until eventually they stubbornly worm their way into his work family too, and they wed under the Venetian sun in spring.

Abbacchio as the moody, distant type who makes mc question if he even cares about them, but then in the quiet moments between the danger of his lifestyle and the emotional turmoil inside him, it’s like mc is the only person in the world. The conflict in his story is getting him to overcome his own emotions and let mc into his life, settling into something comfortable built on trust.

(It’s kind of open-ended, I just can’t picture Abbacchio as the type to have a fantasy fairytale wedding, but I think it would be something more personal, and mc feels cherished.)

Narancia as the fun loving goofball who meets mc by accident, crashing into them headfirst running from *another* fire he started, and it’s the classic meet-cute “hands brush while gathering spilled items” trope, and he cutely tells you jokes while apologizing [im so sorry, gah, hey! cute keychain! sonic go broom broom hehehe also sORRY AGAIN] and basically steals ur heart, and sequentially dragging you along on all of his wild adventures and schemes, and it’s happily ever after when he proposes with a ring pop ;3

Mista as the heroic gunman who rescues a charming hostage (mc) and when they thank him with a kiss, he faints, and they have to drive him to the hospital, where they catch up with each other and fall in love, eventually marrying after Mista proposes in the middle of a shootout like the unexpectedly smooth motherfucker he is, and he, mc, and the six bullets become a happy little familia-tied family.

Fugo as the classic tsundere ‘it’s not like I like you or anything, baka’ type, starting as mc’s tutor whenthey join passione, slowly becoming a friend, and then one night in the middle of an argument he heatedly kisses them and pours his heart out into mc’s waiting palms, and from there a relationship blooms, fugo allowing them to soften his rougher edges and fugo teaching mc street and book smarts, making up the perfect duo of vengeful little shits (I say that with love of course)

About: Fifty beauty queens are ready to compete on camera for the title of Miss Teen Dream, but only a handful of them survive when their plane crashes on a desert island. The survivors are left with little food and water and the choice of whether to put their considerable talents toward survival or continue their pageant training for their almost certain rescue. But as the days pass, it becomes more obvious that the girls won't be rescued any time soon--and the island may not be as deserted as it first appears. Government conspiracy, political intrigue, consumerism, and feminism combine to make a sharply satirical novel about what it means to be a girl under constant scrutiny--and what happens when that scrutiny is suddenly lifted. Trigger warnings: racism (some countered, some not), transphobia (same), misgendering, sexism, guns, violence, explosions, plane crash (obvi), mild body horror, bugs, snakes.

Thoughts: Can you believe it? Libba Bray really just went: I'm going to rewrite a classic with an all-girl cast, and while I'm at it, I'm going to tackle pretty much every feminist issue alongside a blatant critique of consumerism in one fell swoop. AND I'm going to include characters of color, trans representation, characters with disabilities, and a wlw romance. What a queen. If that sounds like something you'd like, then there's no reason to read the rest of this review. It's mostly just quibbles. Overall, I think this novel is a huge success, and I would have been obsessed with it in high school.

While reading, half of me was like "I know this is a satire," and the other half was like, "Where's the lie, tho?" It's spot on in its critiques of consumerism and the raging market of beauty products for women, most of which subtly (or not so subtly, in the book's case) point out that there are things Wrong with our appearances that society will never accept. It's quite heavy-handed, and the many product inserts or commercial breaks started to wear on me, as I imagine they're supposed to. Ads are so ubiquitous we often don't even notice them in day to day life. This ties in with the sheer number of feminist issues the book touches on, from the ways we expect girls to be pretty and quiet to expecting girls to be sexy but shaming them for showing any kind of sexuality. There isn't time to dig deep on all these issues, and there's no subtlety on the bigger ones, but I think it works for what it's doing.

The characters are a little hard to keep track of at first, and I found it especially difficult when they were referred to by their states instead of their names. I like the way the novel takes time to get to know the main group of girls though, and a handful of them get good development arcs. It explores characters who are trans, lesbian, black, Indian, or deaf, as well as the "archetypal" southern belle and the too-smart-for-pageants girl. While I like most of the characters individually, it's as a whole that they really make a statement. These girls aren't just beautiful and shallowly talented; they're smart and resourceful, and rather than come apart and start killing each other, Lord of the Flies style, they grow closer together and start supporting each other. These girls don't break down without society watching; they come alive for the first time and are able to truly be themselves. It's a great novel for self-discovery and female friendships.

But it's not all perfect. Like a lot of other readers, I found including the pirates to be pretty pointless in all but one case (one embraces cross-dressing, and I like normalizing men dressing how they want). I was hoping that by including the pirates Bray would show how feminism is great for all genders, not just women, but it doesn't really play out that way. It feels like a missed opportunity that's squandered on some rather pointless romances (pointless because they don't matter to the plot or the book's agenda, not because romances can't be feminist--they totally could be, given more attention). There's also some unaddressed racism with a character continually calling Shanti "Bollywood," despite her asking numerous times to stop. The character (caricature, really) of MoMo B. ChaCha is also extremely racist, and that whole political intrigue subplot waves its America Is Best flag pretty hard even while it's critiquing American consumerism and politics. Despite a couple obvious failures, I think it means well, and it's still quite relevant for being almost ten years old.

Oh WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN?? Well first of all he’s the kindest funniest smartest most handsome strongest bravest and courageous and wonderful man I know. Not only is he a fantastic husband but he’s my best friend lol, which is emo but also I don’t care because I love him. Ugh what a good guy, genuinely. He’s the kind of guy that when we lived in the suburbs before moving out to the mountains, he’d mow the neighbors lawns just because he was already out. He shoveled the elderly couple’s driveway without making a fuss about it. He will pull over and help anyone who is in need on the side of the road with car troubles. 

He chugs his respect women juice, all day, every day. He shows up for his friends, defends them and steps in when he sees they need some support, whether it’s because of racism, homophobia, sexism, or antisemitism, this man will insert himself into the situation and be a huge imposing figure to intimidate the shit out of whoever is causing trouble. He cares about his friends, but not just his friends -- if he sees injustice he can’t help but go and try to help. 

He doesn’t smile or belly laugh too much but that’s okay because he has the most contagious chuckle and smirk and it feels like a victory to get him to really get red in the face with laughter. He’s got resting bitch face to the Xtreme, but even when he glares at me I can still see the sparkle in his eye to know that he’s just being playful in his own way. Despite his huge big broad angry looking body, he’s incredibly affectionate but only to me and he’s got very little interest in anything else when I’m around lol. If I let him, he would spend every second that we’re together with his hand on me somewhere, and placing kisses on my cheek. 

I usually let him, because I love kisses lol. 

Ugh I could honestly go on there’s so much he’s just so funny and he’s so good at math and he’s got the most handsome dimples and I love his crooked teeth and his big hands and the way he snores lol. Just everything !
