Hacker
@would-we-be-friends-if-i asked:
Alec Hardison (hacker/tech genius, cinnamon roll, does NOT like heights but can deal with them if he must)
@pomrania writes:
The ones I'm uncertain about are Nate Ford and Hardison. Hardison mostly because there's very little tech for him to use, thus his master-class specialty isn't available and he'd have to be judged on more "normal" factors (although he's also a skilled grifter).
@r0sequarks writes:
Hardison is definitely dead. He is not meant to go into the field alone. His grifting style is notable for getting him dangerously in over his head on multiple occasions. Plus, he’s out of his element with nothing to hack. My boy’s getting eaten. Probably at the shaving incident since I doubt he’d take the crucifix.
@darthlordcommie writes:
Hardison: He's a hacker, he gets a bit too smug, his skill set is useless. Slurp slurp.
---------------------------------------------------
WRONG! WRONG! YOU'RE ALL WRONG ON THE INTERNET!
(intended lightly I love you all dearly)
I get where you all are coming from but like okay. Let's break this down.
Yes, it is true that Hardison's fatal flaw is overconfidence and getting a bit too impressed with himself. Yes he overcomplicates things. He's a genius and he knows it and that gets him into trouble. But this is not going to be a problem for him in Castle Dracula because:
Hardison is the member of the crew with a healthy respect for the supernatural
(Yes, yes, Parker believes in the supernatural, but that's not quite the same. Parker believes in the supernatural the way she does everything else - idiosyncratically.)
I'm surprised to see doubt that he'd accept the crucifix. Hardison, again uniquely among the Leverage crew, is godfearing. He's the one getting qualms about stealing from a church - not Nate, whose church it is. There is no way he'd refuse a crying old lady bestowing a religious artifact on him for his protection - his Nana raised him better than that. Not only is he a Polite Young Man, but there are some things you don't mess around with, and divinity is one of them.
And vampires are another! Hardison has two features that are going to offer him a lot of protection: he's extremely culturally literate and he's afraid of things that are scary. The others approach Dracula as a Mark; Hardison is the most likely to approach him as a vampire. If he were able to just nope on out of there he would. Hardison does not want to be here, doing this.
The cultural literacy is a bit of a double edged sword, because he might be operating off the wrong set of vampire lore, and if he comes in visibly armed against vampires Dracula will perceive him as a threat and kill him. This is where his tendency to go too far comes in - given the choice he would enter the Castle with like three braids of garlic around his neck and other unsubtle markers, and this would get him immediately killed. But if he only realizes he's in a vampire story after he becomes a prisoner, when he lacks the ability to outfit himself, then his knowledge (and fear) becomes his best weapon of defense. He can't get overcocky because there is nothing in here to inspire him own confidence. He'll be too terrified to be smug. And that's what's going to keep him alive.
One of you speculated that Nathan Ford is the most like Jonathan Harker of the crew. I couldn't disagree more. Hardison is. He's intelligent, assured and proud of his own skills, afraid of things that are scary, inclined to shit-eating when the situation permits it, young and idealistic, madly in love with his autistic wife, [century of your choice] up to date with a vengeance, a polite and sweet-faced young man, godfearing, skilled in encryption and decryption, constantly referencing his favorite media, logical and methodical, researches everything, and is afraid of heights. There's a reason I make Jonathan's catch phrase "Age of the Clerk, baby!" The novel Dracula is a technothriller and to the extent it's applicable in the late Victorian context, Jonathan is the Drac Attack Pack's hacker. And not just because he hacks Dracula's head off. Who presents the Documents and Backstory at the beginning of every Leverage episode? Hardison does.
All this to say, provided it takes him long enough to figure out that Dracula is an actual literal vampire that he can neither nope out nor arrive in full Blade cosplay, I think Hardison's stay in the Castle plays out almost exactly like the novel as written. As I said, I very much don't think he'd refuse the crucifix, so he won't die shaving. He'll absolutely panic like a rat in a trap before calming down. When he doesn't get cocky he does in fact know how to play a Mark quite well, so he can play the game with Dracula well enough for his fear and discomfort to be funny. He'll know he's going to die and act accordingly. He's gonna be real unhappy about that sheer drop but he will brave it as a matter of life and death. He is not going to go out to get devoured by wolves when he has the option of not doing that. There's nothing to hack and a decided lack of orange soda, but you can't have everything.
I seem to be in the minority here, but I actually do think Alec Hardison can survive Castle Dracula

I watched the hbomberguy video on plagiarism about a week ago and was like, okay, shocking that this guy got away with this much stealing, glad someone called him on it and took the time to build a solid case - as it were.
But I just watched most of the factchecking video by Todd in the shadows and... Now I'm just legitimately shocked that this person was ever taken seriously as an author, as an essayist, as an intellectual. Absolutely shocked.
So much of this is very obvious bullshit. No, the American GI's didn't grow cold towards the Soviet soldiers because they were depicted in thick, formless winter coats. Yes, queer activists in the nineties fought for things other than military and marriage equality. No, pirates weren't well known philanthropists and this was hidden from us by the British establisment. If all of these things were remotely true you would have already heard from it considering how antithetical they are to our historical understanding of the world.
I understand that no one has the energy to factcheck literally every claim in a youtube video they put on as background noise while sewing. But if all of these absolutely outlandish claims keep getting made by a guy in dim lighting on youtube without EVER claiming any sources as he goes along, something should ring a bell. I'm kind of shuddering at the thought of people repeating this stuff as fun facts at parties. Stuff this guy with the awful haircut in the badly lit video with the no sourcing throughout the runtime just... MADE UP.
Is media literacy this bad? Christ alive.

This has been on the horizon for a while, but I think a part of me just didn't want to admit it until recently. I'll cut straight to the chase, you probably won't see much RA content from me anymore.
The topic of the fandom, the tags or quality of the posts have been discussed a few times already -mostly by me I think which should have been a warning sign haha- so I'm not going to go into too much detail. I'll just share my perspective.
The fandom simply just doesn't have much to offer me at the moment.
Everyone knows that a huge part of my interest in RA was and always has been TRR Will. If he didn't exist, I would have lost interest in the series a LONG time ago. But I can cook my own meals for only so long before I get tired and want to eat out for a change, and unfortunately for me no one is serving the food I want at the moment. I still love love love this man, but there just isn't enough content for him in the fandom (except the ones made by me) for me to want to actively keep engaging with it.
Not only that, art just doesn't get the same reception as it used to here. If I can draw another interest of mine and get triple the engagement, then it's just easier for me to be motivated to share my art of that other thing. Sure I draw because I want to first, but suprisingly for everyone I do want to draw things other than RA. And if those other things are more appreciated, then it just means I'm more motivated to keep posting them for everyone else to see. Most people probably remember I used to be very active in discussions and character analyses on here as well, but I just don't see the space for that sort of content here anymore. (Sorry to that one anon who said they liked my writing, you know who you are)
I still love RA and TRR Will, but I'll probably keep my thoughts or the occasional sketch I draw for myself from now on. I just don't feel motivated to share it.
Also just in case anyone asks my opinion after the recent discussion at the ask blog; yes, I don't like the current state of most of the posts here either. I don't want to go out bad-mouthing others though, the current style of content in the fandom just isn't my taste. Which is alright, maybe I've simply grown out of the series! The book getting newer fans is a good thing and I hope they have as much fun as I did when I first joined. This fandom has been my home for years now but I think it's around time I go out and explore more.
I'll still keep up with the series. Again, my fixation on Will is very much alive and well. It sucks that I don't have the energy to share my passion with others anymore, but I'm sure people will do just fine without me mauling every other guy that completely misunderstands his character to death. Don't get me started on the beard shit, genuinely frustrating how a fandom revolving around a book series has 0 literacy at times.
TLDR: I'm not going to be active in the RA fandom anymore because of multiple reasons. I still love TRR Will but I'm not motivated to share my work here in the current state of things. I loved my time here and I hope everyone else does too.
-
Also if my feelings change in the future, then that will be that and I might come back. I'm not sending myself off to exile here. I'm not writing any of this because I believe I have to explain myself either, I'm doing it because I simply want to avoid causing people confusion. Feel free to send me RA related asks still, just don't expect to see me around the RA spaces as much. I'll stay in all the servers obviously, and my presence will be around indirectly since most of my friends are still here. Also, if you draw TRR Will do feel free to send him to me in the dms. Love that guy and his apprentice so much, wish more people did.

How wealthy is Hob Gadling?
Look, there's just so many ways to talk about how wealthy Hob would be after 600+ years alive, and obviously every fic writer is going to approach it differently according to their tastes and the story they want to write, and most likely no two takes will be the same which is the point of fandom.
In addition, we have 1689 as canonical proof that it's possible for Hob to reach the heights of prosperity only to come crashing back down to earth when history and circumstances and pure bad luck come into play.
H o w e v e r, just speaking for myself, it is inconceivable to me that by the 21st century, Hob isn't so ungodly wealthy that he no longer needs to work again, ever, and just picked up teaching as a way to stay busy. The man is walking, one man, generational wealth with the added benefit of no dispersal across multiple family branches and financial literacy to boot, along with having learned the lessons of 1689 to make him especially cautious about ever being in a position again to lose it all.
In 1789, Hob even says he's been socking money away all over the world because he's worried about the global political situation after all these revolutions, like in America and France. Hob has learned the lessons of 1689 and he's not going to get caught without an emergency fund somewhere ever again.
Even if he gave it all away after 1789 in compensation for his role in the "shipping business", in the 200+ years since all he would have to do is put some money away in a bank for safekeeping and then leave it there for a bit as he went along for him to be ungodly wealthy by today. He might need to move the money around at times to keep it in active institutions, but there are absolutely 200+ year old banks/investment vehicles (Lloyd's Banking Group has within it institutions that go back to 1695, just as an example) and so long as he stayed nominally on top of making sure he kept money scattered around and moved it before a place went under, there'd always be seed capital for him somewhere.
Did I mention one man generational wealth? At a certain point, it really would just make more sense for Hob to set up a family trust and use various shell companies to keep things anonymous. Given the man has been in business in one fashion or another on and off since the 1500s I'm going to credit him with a certain amount of financial literacy. The 1600s were truly unusual with being brought up on charges as a witch, because he would have lost everything and gone back to zero, unable to even reclaim those assets as a distant relative, because he was tried and convicted for witchcraft and his assets were almost certainly confiscated by the Crown/by greedy witch hunters.
Again, with just a little diversity of investment and where he stored his deposits, Hob should never fall back to 1600s levels again. He could literally just store some of his older, more valuable durable possessions (like jewelry) or bury a purse of gold somewhere, and know that the historical value of such coins and or items will only appreciate over time.
If he just did as Benjamin Franklin did and put in that day's value $2,000 dollars in a normal bank it would, by modern day, be worth $5,000,000 in today's money by interest alone, doing nothing else. Do that in a few dozen different banks, especially anonymous Swiss accounts or equivalent, and you don't even have to worry if most of them don't make it to modern day.
I cannot stress enough, generational wealth is usually lost because it gets dispersed across multiple children, or because the later generations are not as good with the money as the previous one. Hob does not have that problem. He isn't just generational wealth he is money savvy, dynastic wealth, he can build the same sort of wealth that noble families like the Bonaparte descendants sit on for centuries. Whether or not you think that's the moral thing is beside the point. There comes a point in truly staggering amounts of wealth where it's almost impossible to give it all away, Bezos's ex wife talked about how she made many huge donations with her billions from the settlement and it barely made a dent because of interest on that money.
Could Hob have simply lost money over the years in ill-considered ventures or given it all away? Yes, of course, and it would be very human and thus very Hob of him to do so. But given his convertible in 1989 and being the owner of the New Inn in the 21st century, to me there are more signs canonically that he has put together a pretty decent safety net at the very least all the way up to being very wealthy, we're talking low to mid double digit millions, in my opinion, at minimum, with the upper reaches possibility of very wealthy or more (triple digit millions or more) if he's done things like make good investments throughout, for example in new technology, and socked it away in Swiss accounts and set up an anonymous family trust with some use of shell companies. All of that is on the table as possibilities of the level of wealth he'd have when you factor in two hundred years of business sense and decent business practices, with a healthy dose of paranoia about losing it all again.

You are fucking delusional if you think what Rhys did UTM with Feyre was anything outside of keeping her alive and protected. It is literally said in the text, very plainly, that what he did was out of protection from her seeing and processing the true horrors of what went on around them.
This fandom has no media literacy, I swear to fucking god.

men in youtube comment sections who think luffy would be fine with law doing the immortality surgery “luffy knows that sometimes people die that’s the whole point of what he argued with vivi about in alabasta and if oda keeps law alive just because he’s a fan favorite after introducing the immortality surgery it will be such cheap bad writing” what fucking show are you watching.
you know what i was going to end it there but i need to say more. the whole point of that conversation with vivi was luffy being angry that vivi kept putting everything on her own shoulders. vivi had to do everything so that no one in alabasta would die. and luffy said if you keep doing that YOU ARE GOING TO DIE and that is not acceptable. she is his friend. he only cares about everyone else in alabasta because it’s what vivi cares about. he was fully not going to fight crocodile because he thought she was being stupid and not valuing her own life enough and that’s unacceptable because luffy loves his friends more than anything. that’s literary the entire character thesis of monkey d. luffy.
this keeps happening. it happened with nami and it happened with vivi and it happens with robin and it happened with ace on more than one occasion and it happened with law in dressrosa, but i don’t know how you can so fundamentally misunderstand this story the think that luffy would ever be okay with law sacrificing his own life for someone else i simply don’t think you possess any media literacy. and if you think he would be okay with law sacrificing his own life FOR HIM…from the mc who said being lonely is worse than being hurt. with law of all people the first person to seek him out for an alliance and choose him instead of luffy choosing them, who saved his life so he could get back to his crew, who has literally done nothing but have his back, and think luffy would be cool and normal about law seeing his own life as forfeit even if it was to save the world i straight up don’t know what story you are reading.

and yet you stan abby?
Yes because I don't lack media literacy nor I used one brain cell while playing the game/understanding the story. We finally got a game where actions have CONSEQUENCES. Unfortunately we don't see that often, main characters get to kill whoever they want and move on to get their happy ending. Not in TLOU. And I fucking love that.
All main characters were justified for what they did. Jerry thought he was sacrificing one life to save the world, Joel killed the man who was about to kill his 'daughter' and saved her to not lose another kid,
Abby saw her dad dead on the floor and when she find out who the murderer was (she did NOT know who Ellie was to Joel nor who he was other than a smuggler) she took revenge for her father,
Ellie saw her dad being murdered in front of her and went after the person who did it, killing anyone associated with her because they were there while Joel was being killed,
Tommy saw his older brother being murdered in front of him and wanted revenge,
Abby again saw all her loved ones dead and instead of killing Ellie she let her and Dina go (she could've easily kill both of them)
TLOU is not a story of heroes vs villains. It's a story about literal human beings going through so many fucked up things in a universe where it's kill or be killed and trying their best to keep their loved ones and themselves alive. It's a story about how actions, whether you think justified or not, have consequences.
People have every right to dislike a character because they killed their fav, we're humans, we have emotions, that's how it works. But to think Abby was not justified on what she did or to think of her as the villain of the story then I'm sorry but you're plain stupid. (especially if you're a man cause 90% of the hate she was/is getting (will get when s2 of the hbo show comes out) was/is because she is a woman with muscles that took down the mighty Joel, stfu.)

I keep seeing people say Ben's character constantly regresses or that he acts like his 10 year old self post season 2 of Alien Force and that's objectively wrong lmao. The series goes over this explicitly multiple times. It explains why he acts arrogant and treats things like a joke.
I fucking hate this take lmao. He never reverted. There's a whole fucking Omniverse episode of 11 year old Gwen being freaked out about 11 year old Ben being mature because his 16 year old mind was in that body at the time.
People who say this and believe it have frankly little to no media literacy or know how teenagers work.
Ben's characterization makes perfect sense in the context of the series.
He was only that mature because he literally had no other choice and saw his grandpa die right in front of him. By the 3rd season he not only knows Max is alive and thus able to help, but he's stopped universal omnicide by the Highbreed.
So obviously once he has more of a support network he can finally relax and be less hyper vigilant. This continues into Omniverse were there's a whole fully staffed Plumber base to help out on Earth now and he's seen so much shit that basically nothing fazes him.
Like Ben LITERALLY SAYS in the Forge of Creation episode that the reason he acts arrogant and jokes is to distract himself from what if scenarios on what could happen if he fails and make sure he doesn't freeze when the going gets tough.
"Everything's not a game.
What we do is important.
If you can't see that, maybe you are just a kid." Kevin
"You think I don't know?
When it's hero time, if I mess up, somebody could die.
From what you told me, if we mess up this time, everybody could die.
....
Maybe that's too much to have in your head when you have to win.
Maybe if I pretend everything's a big joke, when the time comes, I'll be able to do what I have to do." Young Ben
"Is that why you're so arrogant all the time... because you're scared?" Gwen
"No. I'm actually oblivious." Teen Ben
People with those opinions are objectively wrong lol.
Ben doesn't revert to a 10 year old personality wise.
Multiple episodes EXPLICITLY point this out.
The reason Ben learns the same lessons again is because it's a long running kids cartoon. Obviously they're going to go over stuff like what makes a hero multiple times.
All superhero media, most media in fact, are just different flavors of morality tales in different settings.

One of the few things I can agree that Rhea did wrong on a widespread, systematic level is the suppression of technology. It IS genuinely really bad for her to have prevented the advancement of human inventions that could lead to greater prosperity for all. HOWEVER. Despite what some fans say, there is actually a compelling, nuanced reason for it that I see so few acknowledge. Technology was what allowed the Agarthans to slaughter her people. It’s what they use to this day for subterfuge and continued attempts to finish what they started. Her fear of humans getting to that point again and not only hurting her, but *themselves* is such a complicated and delicate thing.
Do I think what she did is right? Not at all. Things like the printing press are essential steps in the process of increasing literacy, and a more educated populace is a more prosperous one. This is one of the many instances where if TWSITD were dealt with first and foremost, there could’ve been understanding between Rhea and the human lords where restrictions are lifted. Rhea was alone for *so long,* doing what she thought was necessary to keep everyone alive and (relatively) happy, but it didn’t need to be that way. Just another instance of the tragedy of the game’s story that people like to ignore in the ‘who’s right’ circlejerking.
I don't have much to add to this. You're right. Rhea had understandable reasons for slowing the advance of technology, but that doesn't make it right. It's an interesting flaw of hers. Her past defines the way she treats current issues.

people complaining about Ceroba's story influence have little to no media literacy. the most common argument is that "oh the whole story hinges on this random lady we met 2/3rds in?" but thats not exactly the case.
another common point is "well in undertale the whole goal was just trying to get home", i can tie both these arguments up easily
The whole focus of the story WAS getting home. At the end of snowdin, Martlet is keen on getting you to hotland then to Asgore. The beat crash was a completely unexpected twist, leading Clover to have to journey through the dunes on their own. THEN. when Clover reaches the Wild East, Starlo takes interest and holds them there as a deputy, because of his extreme interest in the Surface. Ceroba sees that Starlo found a human, and finally decides that its the time to attempt her plan. Her plan to try to bring back her daughter so that she would have SOMETHING in her life. The story's plot doesnt hinge on Ceroba, Ceroba's plot hinges on CLOVER. She purposely keeps clover by her side whenever possible, and tries whatever possible to get to the lab with Clover alive. Not by Clover's choice either, as a if you try a lot of paths that would take you out of Steamworks, like the Mail Whale, Ceroba stops you and says its to keep attention away. Her plan was like this the whole time, the only thing that stopped her and made her hesitate was Starlo confronting her, and Clover continuing to trust her regardless of what happened.
TL;DR look a lil further into the story before you say its bad

normally I would just put this in the tags of a critical post to keep it concise, but sadly rbs have been turned off! I guess dogpiling sucks when it happens to YOU, right? anyways,
just wanted to say that, yeah, it's proper fandom etiquette to tag things. even if they are only mentioned and then later confirmed to not actually be happening in the fic. That said ,, and before we forget, it is not a REQUIREMENT. Just as it's not a requirement for fic writers to post and share their products at all. Just as it's not a requirement to read and consume then. When people provide completely free services (like, say, writing, editing, and publishing and entire novel), and it's entirely up to you on whether or not to consume those services, it's a little weird to make extra demands, no? And especially to inflate these demands to the point of character assassination; not only dogpiling on the author, but all of the authors fandom friends, leading them to delete all of their soc med and hard crafted works in the process.
so you didn't like someone's fanfiction. and it was POPULAR fanfiction! that sucks. But arguments about transphobia, racism, pedophilia, etc. have already been well disputed in the very post I can't reblog, and I think it's abundantly clear that the author should not be punished for following established canon (i.e. Claw's canonical torture of children and Toichiro Suzuki's openly proclaimed eugenicist goals in taking over the world for "superior" ESPers) to a logical conclusion and for adding a layer of realism to the work.
It's not their fault you, quite frankly, didn't think very hard about what you saw and understood in both S1 and S2 of mob psycho. it sucks that it makes you uncomfortable. But it's not a stranger's job on the internet to completely wash their works of anything that reflect messy and uncomfortable reality to coddle you, a voluntary consumer of their media. And a fan writer absolutely should not be punished for producing a canon-universe work, when you yourself are a fan of the canon. The fan author, very obviously, does not condone transphobia, racism, pedophilia, or any other accused thing, just by depicting it in their freely made and voluntarily consumed fanwork. Just as ONE, very obviously, does not condone the torture of children, or child abuse, just by depicting it in Claw's organization and in Shou and Toichiro's relationship.
All of what I've said is about Side Quest, but it's absolutely disgusting that for some reason, the backlash over that specific fic went over mere criticisms of the work to harassing the author. Not only this, but to use the final chapter of Side Quest, and all of the produced fan art within it, as a blacklist of Twitter handles and social medias to then ALSO harass the authors fandom friends is purely unacceptable behavior. If you want an author to tag their works better, simply ask them to do so; do not harass them and their friends. If you want your "fandom" and "ship" to stay alive, you MUST learn how to dislike things normally and respectfully; otherwise, how can you expect people to continue to produce novels for free? At a minimum, you need to recognize that your fellow fans are real, live people and do not deserve targeted harassment, and if you truly believe them to be dangerous, contact a moderation team and avoid their fanworks.
on a personal level, I'm offended that you think I, and many others who genuinely enjoyed Side Quest, lack media literacy. I've always been a fan of canon compliant and divergent fics that follow canon implications to their logical conclusions, especially when that involves recognizing the problematic and uncomfortable aspects of reality. You may have watched mob psycho uncritically, but I did not, nor did I read Side Quest uncritically. I'm frustrated that these projections have led to more of my little joys and favorite thought-provoking fic becoming inaccessible to me, but mostly... I'm sad that these authors shared their works while not fully understanding how uncritical, reactionary, and ungrateful their audience truly was.

There's no excuses for what Shitrick did, but oh well he's protected by the plot and author and not forced to be incompetent like mc with a bunch of shit excuses for why mc is the most useless character in the game. It doesn't even make any damn sense people mc's age are skilled lol
Oh no, baby is a little pressed aren’t we?
Eirik is not protected by the plot. He’s literally framed as the main antagonist, it’ll take plot armor to keep him alive and the goes the same for a lot of people in the cast. All he’s got going for him is a lot of money and family blood. Anything else beyond that was Eirik’s own hard work.
He’s also five years older than the MC, who is only eighteen. Think a little about how much a person and learn and grow in that time.
In fact let’s put it into a more modern example so its more clear. Within four to five years, someone can go to a post secondary institution and develop all the skills they need for their career, get an internship and or continue it. It’s like comparing someone with a full bachelor degree versus the a person who just fresh out of high school. That feels unfair doesn’t it?
Now, the only characters truly around the MC’s age we’ve met so far are Finny and Thea. And they are don’t compare to the literal veterans in their fields either. You really think Finny can take on Sieg and survive? Ha. Wait until you meet him. Yes Thea, is talented, yes she had a jump start at magic, but that’s because she’s a product of her environment, just like the MC is and Thea is VERY aware of how powerless she really is. If she went up against someone like Medea or Rothbart in battle, she’s dead. End of story.
Since you referenced my replies in previous asks,(very old asks now that I think about it) I can assume you’ve must have read a lot of what I’ve written, so i am astounded at your ability to not comprehend the kind of story this is…or you do, but still choose to follow and be upset when it remains to be exactly what I say it’s going to be.
How many times do I have to say it without saying it directly that the MC is the underdog? Their biggest disadvantage is that this succession crisis begins right at the beginning of their adult life? The audience for this game is 18+ surely you have enough media literacy to understand this.
If you cannot accept these fact then I will kindly ask you and your power tripping kind to leave. The story is written in a fashion that there is a lot of grey and nuance between the characters and their upbringing and the conflict. Eirik is an antagonist, but his flaws are rooted in his backstory that is written to be sympathetic and human, because he IS human. But god, if you cannot handle Eirik, you’ll barely be able to handle the rest of the cast.
If you cannot understand or have sympathy for a boy who’s lashing out because people are trying to forget his father was brutally murdered in a civil war by his own family, then everything else is going to fly over your head and your going to have a bad time- and honestly look stupid when you come crying into my inbox. Step outside and talk to some people, you could gain some emotional intelligence, it’ll do you some good.
This is not a power fantasy. You’re not going to get all powerful and trample over people to get your way. No, you’re going to have to make alliances, understand the MC is only one person in an conflict involving an Empire. The MC is going to be feeling a lot of negative feelings because their human like everyone else who has flaws and weakness.
I will never change my story to appease you so you’re talking to a wall. If you can’t handle that, you’ll be happier if you leave, unfollow, rate the game no stars.
This is the last time I’ll be replying to a comment like this because honestly, you and I have better things to do.

Darksided Takes Seen On The Internet:
It became The Woke Dead after R&M got together 😑
I stopped watching and deleted TWD from my DVR after R&M became a couple because I don’t want my kids to see that (on a show with some of the most graphic gore and several interracial couples, Richonne is where they drew the line) 🤡
RJ isn't a legitimate son to Rick - and just an overwhelming amount of dismissive-at-best downright-racist-at-worst attitudes towards a child 😪
Taunting that we’ll only be getting about 240 minutes of R&M in their spin-off 🤣 (like sis, we would have been grateful for just a 5 min Richonne special during an AMC commercial break so 240 minutes is a blessing)
Rick had more chemistry with insert-any-non-Black-woman (ones I’ve heard: Lori’s corpse, Andrea, Jessie, Jadis) 🙄
Rick is going to move on with a new woman and start a family in the spin-off, including starting a romance with Jadis (the spinoff didn’t even have to air for set videos and pics to already debunk this) 🥱
Rick only got with Michonne romantically because she was alive and one of the few women available 🤮 (sooo darksided & wrong)
Rick’s best wife was Jessie (this nearly convinced me media literacy is completely dead) 🫠
Michonne is a bad mother who left her kids behind for some horny reason (as if she’s not a wife seeking to bring home the father of her children)
I can’t possibly have an anti-Black take because I think Michonne and her sword are "totally badazz" I just can’t fathom any aspect of the show that highlights her humanity, desirability, and womanhood (this is never helping one's case the way they think it is) 🤔
I don’t usually address the parts of this fandom that have consistently spoken so negatively about this TV couple. I’d rather focus on the positive that we get to celebrate in actuality. And I promise returning to being positive and unbothered is what I’ll do after this post, that who knows if anyone will read and who knows if I’ll keep posted for long. But there’s been a lot of degrading comments that go beyond just “opinion” or fair discussion lately so…I just had to respectfully vent. And it ain’t brief. Cuz if this blog has shown anything it’s that - Brief? I don’t know her lol.
Here’s the thing I’d want to say kindly to those that “just don’t buy Richonne” and go out of their way to be negative about the TV couple - You don’t have to like the pairing. Truly you don’t. You don’t have to see the (blazingly blatant) chemistry. Just know, you not seeing it doesn’t mean it’s not there.
And the issue isn't about you not being a fan of a TV couple or even voicing that Richonne isn't your thing. The real issue is whenever you spend time in your real life demeaning the pairing online with real-life implications of real-life racism and hatefulness.
Tumblr media
Look, I hadn’t been expecting Rick and Michonne to get together romantically before they went canon. It wasn’t cuz I thought they didn’t have chemistry and it def wasn’t cuz I thought they were like siblings. (Ain’t nobody should be looking at their sibling the way they looked at each other lol.) Upon first watch, I just loved R&M’s dynamic and thought the bond and family they found with each other was really sweet and special and I had left it at that.
But when they got together romantically it immediately felt so right. It felt earned. It felt alive, authentic, utterly fitting, and beautiful.
And then shortly after when I went back and watched compilations of their pre-canon moments, I realized why it felt that way. It’s because it was all always right there. All that build-up was evident. All the desire. All the love. I wasn’t only seeing the pre-canon looks they shared and the attraction they felt because I now knew they’d be a couple. I was seeing it because that’s simply what it was. What it always was. Like from a media literacy standpoint, a romance is where Rick and Michonne's story was heading. It was me that missed it. And it would be weird for me to act like their love story wasn’t there just because I initially missed it. That’s on me.
How you feel about their love story doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. It doesn't mean their journey wasn’t well done. Some people just miss it because it wasn't heavy-handed and others just refuse to see it and we know why.
And if it’s just a silly TV show to you and you’re adamant that you don’t care about the couple or about anything, then do yourself and everyone a favor and don’t comment. Cuz people who actually don’t care and think it’s just a TV show aren’t taking any time out of their day to comment negatively about something that was made to be enjoyed. If you enjoy the couple, great. Revel in all their glory. If you don’t - ask yourself why it would at all be necessary to talk down on the pairing so harshly unless their union does bother you more than you care to admit and for reasons you refuse to say aloud. (But trust, the reasons behind why you spew vitriol toward the pairing are still so loud)
Whether you buy it or not, Richonne factually didn’t come out of nowhere. Their love isn’t an afterthought. It’s a patient and passionate slow-burn that wonderfully unfolded into an out-loud soulmate type of love from both of them equally. You don’t have to see it or like it. That’s okay. (Even tho I do feel pretty confident if you close your eyes and imagine Michonne looking like Lori or Jessie or even Andrea I think all of a sudden you’d read their scenes as more than platonic) But nothing will change that an epic love story is what Rick and Michonne’s journey literally is. Not just to “shippers,” but to people who receive actual paychecks as part of the show. Everyone involved with that show knows and values that Rick and Michonne have a grand love story. And the fact that a whole spinoff about their love story is on the way is proof that Rick and Michonne's love wasn’t just a part of TWD it was one of the elements at the very heart of TWD. Why keep fighting to survive if not for the love and family you build in that world?
9 seasons of watching Rick Grimes and they’re ending the main character’s arc with an epic love story between him and the greatest love of his life for a reason. Because no matter who likes or dislikes it, sees the chemistry, or doesn’t - regardless of it all, the characters of Rick and Michonne deeply love each other, need each other, and desire each other. And they have for a long long time. Fans of them are not reveling in an opinion or speculation that R&M’s story is a romance. We’re appreciating the story that was and is literally being told.
Their love story is fiction. Their love story is also a fact and no opinion changes that. And anyone who is willing to just step back, turn off biases, and watch what is literally happening on screen - in the words of Michonne…you’ll see :)
Tumblr media
Oh and if you don’t - you don’t. No sweat. Like what you like. Dislike what you dislike. Just keep it respectful and know that the opinion you’re entitled to doesn’t change the facts. So back to reality & positivity, I go. 😌

If any of y'all contributed in @118sexen's hate, fuck you. There is no possible excuse for someone's possible death. I hope that she's alive, so fucking badly, and I feel like a horrible person for not having been there in time to help her. But if she's not, there is no explanation that will justify for Melody's death.
I didn't know her for long, and I hope I can know her for longer, but I know she was amazing, funny, nice, caring, kind, and so much more. And yet y'all insulted her, misgendered her, and dog piled on her because she supported transmascs and enbies on a post about transfems???? That's bullshit. She deserved better. She deserves better. So much fucking better.
Y'all complain about Twitter's media literacy, and about how the people there are horrible, and yet apparently hundreds of people think it's still okay to give a CHILD multiple panic attacks and make her feel like it's her fault for everything.
And yet none of the people who contributed in this one-sided hatred, in this mob directed towards a MINOR (how many times do I have to emphasise this), will take a step forwards and apologise. Because why would you? It's a child who you never knew, so why should you care if you caused her death?
And if she is alive (which god I fucking hope she is, so fucking bad), I know people are going to keep getting mad at her for "pretending" or for "not going through with it". That is not what a good person does. That's what a horrible person with a death wish towards someone innocent does, and there's no fucking excuse. Fuck you.
Any excuses will be blocked on sight, you're not a Knight in shining armor, you're an angry mob who caused the death of a good person.
I pray that Melody is alive and that she's safe, but if she's not, may she rest in peace. I love you Melody. You're amazing. I'm sorry I wasn't able to do more for you.
