1. the degree your sun is in, represents the age at which your ego matures. it usually represents some sort of achievement which leads you to re-evaluate yourself. for example, taylor swift has her sun at 21 degrees and she became the youngest artist to win a grammy for album of the year at 21. (if your sun degree is less than 10, then please look at the degree of your sun in your sidereal chart!!!)

brad pitt has his sun at 25 degrees and he landed his first major acting role in 1989 at 25 years old. bjork has her sun at 28 degrees and released her debut album titled “Debut” in 1993 at 28 years old.

2. look at where you pluto is located to know about your shadow side. pluto typically represents an area of major transformation in this lifetime but you know what makes transformation possible and necessary? your shadow or rather uniting and merging with your shadow in order to become “whole”.

Honestly, I feel like there would be a lot less frustration with the Coppola film if it was completely irredeemable trash with zero good things going for it bc then we could just write it off as an awful film and laugh at it for what it is - but the fact that there are SO MANY great things about it that are worthy of praise, and we know Coppola generally isn't a bad filmmaker, is what makes it so frustrating, precisely it could have been an amazing high-budget film adaptation that was accurate to the novel and the indisputable definitive version, and then it swerved and made the framing and other choices that it did, with its specific vision superseding the actual text; and ofc there's the title issue of including Bram Stoker's name and implying a faithful adaptation, though I think Coppola tends to do that with straight book adaptations to credit the author, like how The Godfather's full title is actually Mario Puzo's The Godfather.

Like, the casting is amazing! Winona Ryder is perfect as Mina! Anthony Hopkins is inspired casting for Van Helsing! Even Keanu Reeves, with his questionable acting and accent, is at least cute as Jonathan, and his star power at the time makes sense for why he played the role. The costumes designed by Eiko Ishioka are honestly among the greatest film costumes ever, and she rightfully won the Best Costume Design Oscar that year! Love the liminal creepiness of Dracula's castle and how his shadow has a life of its own! Everything about the way the scene of Lucy entering her tomb as a vampire is filmed is sublime - the lighting, the cinematography, the camera angles, the eerily chilling on a visceral level music and sound design, the make up and costume, the way the candles supernaturally light themselves, etc. Quincey is actually included for once! Even some of the epistolary format is retained, with things like the log of the Demeter narrated over scenes on the ship, Mina typing on her typewriter, Jack recording on a phonograph, etc. There are honestly a lot of positive things that can be said about the film, and Coppola does know what he's doing on a technical level, along with the talented cast and crew.

And obviously, no adaptation is going to just copy the text exactly for various reasons, like film being an audio-visual medium with a shorter length than a novel, adaptations being filtered through the lens of their creators and reflective of the social milieu they are being created in, commercial box office considerations bc capitalism, etc., and I think being faithful to the spirit of the source material is more important than textual purity, and a lot of this is going to be subjective on the part of viewers as well. But yeah, it's like, personal preferences aside, the Coppola film just came SO CLOSE to being a film adaptation that's both accurate to the novel and incredible cinema at the same time, but then it made directing and screenwriting choices like Mina just being Dracula's love interest and having none of her heroic moments (all removed or given to the men), everyone being a total asshole, Dracula going back and forth in characterization bc the film can't decide if he's a sympathetic romantic hero who just wants true love or a scary monster villain who wants to take over England and eat people, and you kind of need the latter to drive the plot outside of the romance, etc.

We could have had it all, and that's what is so frustrating to me, along with how the film is so definitive that it gets projected back onto the original novel and just about anything Dracula.

I got the idea from this quote from Matthew Perry

Like I know that Perry is an addict and he probably feels kinship to ppl like River and Heath because they died from OD and drug use.

But this quote felt very racist to me. Like Keanu has made a career out doing lots of action flicks ofc but he also has some serious turns in dramas that have surprised me. not to mention his comedic work in the Bill and Ted franchise.

Now what I remember most is the comments from dudebros who basically think of Keanu as some airhead kungfu fighting dude. but does anyone else have like sources or links about how people seem to poke fun at Keanu? that can seem racially motivated?

The Final Course

Chef Julian Slowik didn't know what to do with himself. 

He didn't know how to feel about his ruined Menu, and about the two guests who made it so.

There was no time to waste on unnecessary thoughts other than salvage what was left and finish it. Although looking at the corpses of his avid followers, he regretted that not all made it to the journey with him. They deserved to feel liberated too.

Alas, death was nothing. He was the Chef, the Man. He worked with death every day. Death was his business. How could he call himself a chef if he didn't experience death? Two cooks tip the barrel on its side. A vicious liquid poured out across the floor. 

Resigned to their fate, the diners didn't even bother lifting their feet. By now some even felt as if they deserved it. 

Servers have begun draping thick sheets of marshmallow strung together with candy floss over the diners. 

The staff continued to hustle, creating elaborate, Jackson Pollock splatters and swirls of melted chocolate and graham crackers crumbled atop the tables. 

Slowik stood still as an owl and thought. He looked around his restaurant. The ferocious beauty of his food. The havoc he had caused. The totality of his life. And somehow he knew this wasn't the perfect ending to his menu. He shook his head, dismayed.

It was time for him to be done with it, "So. Before our final course, there is the matter of the bill." 

Servers placed checks on the tables, along with little Hawthorn gift bags. 

"We're on a no-tip system, so gratuity is included. Please enjoy your gift bags. A few goodies in there -- a booklet of our local suppliers, some house-made granola, one of Doug Verrek's fingers, and a copy of tonight's menu.

Lillian Bloom reached for her wallet until Ted stopped her, "No, this is on the magazine," He noticed that Lillian was almost about to cry, "I know."

"No, it's just - I just realized I'll never get to write about this."

Richard reached for his wallet with his one good hand and gave it to Anne.

"Can you take out my Amex?" He looked at her, "Anne?"

"I don't want an apology, Richard."

The man looked at his wife solemnly, glowing with shame and subsequent regret, "Happy Anniversary."

Each tech bro tossed in a credit card -- they're going Dutch.

The movie star put down his card.

"I am your friend," Felicity reacted with a sniff.

The movie star smiled at his only friend, "Told you you weren't leaving." 

"Again, thank you all for dining with us tonight. You represent the ruin of my art, and my life, but now you get to be a part of it. A part of what I hope is my masterpiece." 

With Chef's prompting, the guests slowly begin to clap. The movie star couldn't help but give it up sincerely for himself and for a fellow artist. The cooks applauded as well.

"And now, our final dessert course is a playful twist on a comfort food classic..."

"The S'more: the most offensive assault on the human palate ever contrived. Unethically sourced chocolate and gelatinized sugar water imprisoned by industrial-grade graham cracker. It's everything wrong with us and yet we associate it with innocence. Childhood. Mom and Dad.

Chef looked at his mother, who was passed out at her table. 

"But what transforms this fucking monstrosity is fire. The purifying flame. It nourishes us, warms us, re-invents us, forges and destroys us. We must embrace the flame." 

There were tears gathering in the eyes of our diners. They know what's happening and some even began praying. Slowik grabbed a handful of hot coal straight from the grill, not even registering how it burned his palm, and slowly made his way into the centre of the dining room.  

"Please --" Anne begged shakingly.

But was she pleading for him to stop... or to continue?

"We must be cleansed. Made clean. Like martyrs or heretics, we can be subsumed and made anew."

Tears well in Chef Slowik's eyes. He paused, taking a deep breath. He had somehow found... release.

The chef tossed it in the flammable pool. A watery curtain of blue flame billowed across the floor. A warm, metamorphic glow illuminated the faces of our diners. Despite everything that had gone wrong, Chef Slowik was prepared to perish from this world that had grown so inhospitable to him, smiling face in the firelight.

There were screams of torture around him but it was as if the man ascended to Heaven already. 

That was until the Devil came knocking on the door.

And dragged him hastily out of the restaurant.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character?What's something you don't like?

Might gonna sound weird but in some fic's I like to give him trauma that he has to deal with (especially in the upcoming one), yk the childhood trauma. BUT I really just like to write him as a little angsty, bitchy but hella flirty asshole. And I also LOVE to write him being affectionate, like when he's needy and wants attention.

As for what I don't like? Hm... idk at the moment, I'm just throwing him into random events.💀

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

OOH my first impression! At first I was like "Hmm this guy kinda hot." When I was... what, 14 or 15 if not a little bit younger? I was mostly interested in John back then bc of Keanu Reeves, and my mom loves him too, so that's how I got into John Wick movies. But I was still eyeing Santino. He was a bit annoying, but I actually liked that abt him and uh... as I continued to watch it more and whenever it came on the TV and I got older, yk puberty hit me like a lot lmao, I was like "OH MY FUCK HELLO SANTINO YOU HOT FUCK" so yeah he made me realize that I like Italian language and Italy and ofc then I became obsessed with him and Riccardo Scamarcio. And now, as you can see, I'm still very much obsessed and hyperfixated on him. Yeah, it all started a few years ago and now I'm here being crazy :).

happy selfship saturday otterpop!!💕 movie night at the mirakei household (which ofc you and the rins are invited to!) and we're watching john wick. who doesn't love watching keanu reeves beat up a bunch of jerks?! we have to cover all the snack bases as honestly snacks are more important the movie. we got chocolate, gummy worms, skittles, salty chips, my family size box of cheez its, etc. we are definitely cuddling!! very rare to pass the five minute mark without one of us being in the other's lap.

waahhh, i would love to drag my rins along more movie night! gotta bring our own supply of snacks bc they will eat you out of house and home if we don’t lmao — but i am ashamed to admit that i’ve never watched john wick. there’s a first time for everything though! seems like it’d be up mirakei’s alley heh. shaking with cuteness aggression at you inability to not be touching each other!
