still in utter bafflement that people thought as piasco was unfolding that oscar’s decision to go mclaren, a team that was on the upward trajectory ever since 2018, over renault works team, a known disaster class since pre-historic times, was a dumb move. wym?? people at that time did not have all the info about how alpine absolutely fumbled 2 contracts, on top of otmar controlling the narrative, throwing around words like “loyalty”, it would have still been a better decision, because it gave oscar the opportunity to prove himself against a highly rated driver like lando, instead of pierre whose record is not perfect. hell, had everything that alpine lied about around oscar was correct, meaning that say he was ghosting them after promising to drive, it still was the correct decision 😭

hmm. im not actually sure if i agree w you, because i don't think the difference between renault and mclaren was actually that cut and dry. when daniel moved from renault to mclaren in 2020 ppl called it a sideways move, and for good reason. since id say 2019 at least, mclaren and renault had been in the upper midfield and in direct competition with each other. 2022, the year of the piasco, alpine beat mclaren in the wcc (mostly bc of daniel shitting the absolute bed, but still). the length of time since theyve been successful was kind of equivalent (renault's last wdc is 2006, mclaren's is 2008), and arguably renault hadnt recently had a period of such despairing backmarker incompetence as mclaren had circa 2017 (they're having it now tho, lol. oops). so to anyone looking alpine seemed like a reliable midfielder which had been floating around 5th place in the wcc since like 2017, while mclaren had had the epic highs and lows (of high school football) and was now looking as if it had clearly gotten the new regs all wrong.

THAT SAID. alpine is run by french people. so, you know, that's an important factor to consider

at the time, before learning abt the absolute legal / bureocratic incompetence that drove oscar away, i still objectively thought oscar had made a good choice – but thats bc im a big ol mclarenhead and also biased against alpine. i didn't trust the management of otmar szafnauer or the rest of alpine's higher-ups (rightfully so lol), and i knew enough about the things mclaren were saying to believe that we'd have a change in fortune long-term after the wind tunnel was finished. still like, when 2023 came along and mclaren were clearly backmarkers if not the slowest car on the grid, in retrospect i understand the ppl who made fun of oscar for turning down alpine's offer (and in such a dramatic fashion too, lol). im obviously laughing in all of their faces currently, but yk, i get it ig

also re: proving himself against lando, i think ur accidentally forgetting which frenchie was actually in the other alpine seat LMAO he wouldve gone against ocon, not gasly (i shudder to think of the gasly-to-mclaren alternate universe dear god). i rate ocon i think he's an alright driver but ig my question is more like, why would it be in the interest of a rookie to go against what couldve been a teammate-killer*? like look at alex - his reputation was hugely damaged when he went against max, then his stock HUGELY boosted when he was paired up with latifi and sargeant. north american loserboy pay drivers are necessary to the economy of the f1 paddock bc they make everyone going against them look sooooo good lmao. if anything oscar's reputation wouldve probably benefited more from going up against a race winner like ocon (or gasly if ur suggesting mclaren wouldve tried to get ocon instead, which wouldve been difficult but marginally more rewarding for them) (and less of a nightmare for me) who he couldve possibly actually convincingly beat.

all that considered like. fundamentally oscar DID make the right choice. and not just bc mclaren is a frontrunner big 3 now and alpine has barely gotten any points this year, bc f1 is a game of chance and u never know where any team will actually end up in next year's order. so even ignoring that, oscar made the right choice bc of what he himself has said time and time again - he enjoys and appreciates being wanted. alpine kept him in the attic like that dusty broken air mattress u only bring out when u've got one too many guests for the sleepover. meanwhile, mclaren broke daniel's contract and paid like 20mil partly just so they could secure oscar's seat before anyone else snatched him up. oscar had literally already signed the mcl contract before fernando announced his shock departure. he did not believe his alpine seat was secured or even available at all - there were talks of loaning him to williams or whatever and like out of everyone THATS a team that cant escape its reputation for perpetual floppage lmao. so fundamentally mclaren was in the right to try to secure his contract and oscar was in the right for trying to get out of being the understudy of an old man who doesnt ever seem to want to stop driving.

*i dont actually think lando is a teammate killer, even if he's obviously performing substantially better than oscar up until this point. i think hes unfortunately just a ricciardo-killer lol

What do you think of Collie going back to the sky. Because the way I see it, he's either all alone up there (probably not good for a young child) or he's gone back to living with the other collectors/archivists (which is probably also not good), Maybe he has found a guardian up there who aren't like his old siblings, an entire species of people can't all be bad, right?

hmmm... well first of all, i would like to say i personally never was a fan of the whole "collectors are emotionless assholes by default but our colly is ⁂⁕special⁕⁂ so hes different" like THATS SO STUPID!!! AND DEFEATS SO MUCH OF THE PURPOSE OF IT BEING IMPACTFUL HE CHOSE BY HIMSELF TO BE GOOD! i think the collector/archivist species is likely very very complicated and has a very rich history and hierarchy we just will never know abt in canon bc 1. theyre not the focus here and 2. well it kind of. ended. so.

BUT WELL. RIGHT! COLLYS FATE! SO UHM.

well. i have good n i have bad feelings about it.

ill start with the bad: i do wish we had seen more of him in the future timeskip, and that he had gotten a more permanent residence. i thiiink the archives are still intact around the titan skull (dont quote me on it though id need to look again), so, no reason why my future idea couldnt be canon with him living there n repurposing them. i think theres definitely a better solution than just sending him away, he couldve still had his little corner to learn stuff, just closer to the ppl he loves n that DO love him back.

HOWEVER.

heres where the good starts: i think it was actually a good idea for him to not become a noceda or a clawthorne. first of all because there was not enough of a bond between himself n those families to want to adopt him, specially there was a lot of trauma involved that cant be erased with how much he wishes to be good for them now. they still clearly care about each other, but theyre not family, maybe theyll never be, n thats fine. theres also another reason, but going into it would require... me being pretty bold about something thats been nagging on my brain ever since the episode aired, and actually talking about that might devolve into a bigger post in and of itself. i MAY make that post in the future and lose my fear of talking about, but im being cautious for now. all im gonna say about it atm is that if they had made him a noceda or a clawthorne, making him kings sibling, it wouldve made things... very awkward. and bad. so.

i think theres also a pretty fatalistic pessimistic way the fandom seems to be viewing this end: its never stated colly went back to the archivists at all, just "the stars", and its not even immediately after the finale events neither is it permanent- he had to have stayed around at least long enough to make that new portal door, and he visits frequently if king mentioning him being around to do something for luzs bday is any indication (not to mention that book lilith was holding that seemed to be about titans and collectors - i think colly mustve helped with info for that right).

me and the archive house server have actually been discussing this quite a bit, and we have reached the conclusion that the best way to describe this was that they "pulled a snufkin". collector is a space vagabond that travels around once in a while and then eventually always comes back to tell of their spoils to the people he still cares about most. and while that may not be satisfying to people who wanted him to be lovingly adopted into a welcoming family, i think its a good enough fate considering he might not even want a family out of the clawthornes, but rather just to be close to king.

and im sure maybe in the future he might decide to settle again at the isles for a more permanent residence. the future is in OUR hands now! we decide what to do with these characters and their future lives, and ive got a LOT of ideas.

it is with a heavy heart that i must announce. the five nights at freddy's movie was really good

sorry for how much of a behemoth this post is im fnaf autism just bear with me also i can't keep my thoughts straight for the life of me so this will be a bumpy ride. as an additional note i got very lucky and had literally 0 spoilers whatsoever for this movie, i haven't even seen the trailer

so first of all: i thought all the changes they made to the plot to make it work for a movie were good decisions, altho some of them did take a minute to actually feel like good changes lmao. once i thought about em a bit more though they made sense.

one of the things i really liked was that they also did include a lot of the things i wanted them to, or more specifically things that you're like "you literally can't have a fnaf movie without these, it just wouldn't be right", like we got mike schmidt, we got fucking VANESSA??? altho she might be in the trailer so that might not be the same reveal for yall as it was for me but still. they heavily alluded to vanny? (altho that's a part i'm kinda sad abt is they didn't /actually/ include vanny, vanessa just makes an offhand comment about how she "wouldn't be much help" if she was around afton and then. comes to help anyways and doesnt have any issues? lame they shouldve had him hypnotise her and then she fought her way out to help mike and abby. or alternatively they couldve used the family restructuring to make vanny be a result of afton giving vanessa osdd-2, like thats kinda functionally what he does with the mask anyways but this would make it more obvious).

also swinging back to changes they made that i liked!! VANESSA AFTON?? like this is the one that took me a while to get used to bc it feels like such a cliche from an outside perspective but it also kind of Super Isn't considering what the original plot is? like all the family restructuring they did makes pretty good sense to me, i do think it loses a bit of the weight having michael be Just Some Guy Whose Brother Happened To Be Kidnapped By Afton Forever Ago and now coincidentally has this weird guy offering him a job as a night guard, but also the og lore. absolutely would not fit into a movie lmao. so i like that they kept the characters everyone wanted around while also rearranging it to keep the spirit of "learning about all of this for the first time through the eyes of a security guard" you get from playing the games. it's fun for people who don't know the lore because it's easy to follow and it's fun for people who /do/ know the lore because they can pull apart all the differences.

oh right back to things they included that i wanted them to. we gotttt chica's cupcake murdering people, we got FUCKING MATPAT? SAYING THE ITS JUST A THEORY LINE? SOUNDING THRILLED OFF HIS ASS TO BE THERE??? i dont like the man and his opinions vis a vis addressing nonbinary characters but. goddamn was that a funny cameo. why couldnt you include markiplier too you fucking cowards. who said that. anyways. oh we kind of tangentially have a canon name for crying child? aka garrett? like idk this one could go either way because like. yeah he's mike's younger brother that died tragically and scarred him for life, makes sense that theyd be the same character in function but also it is technically a different family so who knows.

umm what else. oh this doesnt rlly fall into either category i just really liked it, the intro sequence for all the animatronics? showing what they can /really/ do with the breaking and entering dudes?? that was such a cool sequence i really liked the whole thing honestly. chica being introduced in the kitchen and the dude finding the cupcake then looking back and it's gone? bonnie in the supply closet? foxysprint??? AND FREDDY!! THE BITE!!! in case anyones reading this before watching the movie so they know what to expect: youll know when this moment is coming and if youre watching it at home with friends i HIGHLY recommend having the "was that the bite of 87" clip ready to play right after, they WILL lose their shit. i had it queued up from the very beginning of the movie cause i was like. they can't not include it /somehow/, it's the fnaf movie there has to be A Bite. and sure enough. oh also it's not at the same time but the golden freddy reveal is really good too, they did a good job of setting it up so even if youre already aware of golden freddy conceptually you still go "oh freddy's here? i mean i guess that makes sense he's the leader and all. or wait what happened to his eye why's he only got one? oh. oh i see. ohohohohohohohoho" 100/10. also very funny that they just straight up. MURDER THE AUNT? AND SHE NEVER GETS MENTIONED AGAIN SHE JUST IS DEAD??? the kid isnt like. hey what happened to aunt jane?? i get none of them liked her and with good reason but youd think at least one of em would be like "damn she sucked but she didnt deserve that, rip jane"

oh and the springlocks of course the springlocks. like as soon as we saw aftons name in the cast list we all knew he was gonna get springlocked, it's such a cherished memory for so many of us and there's no way in hell The Fnaf Movie™ wouldnt include afton getting springlocked, they just legally can't leave that out. and they do it pretty well too like yeah if you know what's gonna happen you can see it coming way ahead of time and it's kind of a slow crawl to get there but like. idk i think it still works pretty well. i don't personally like how long the actual springlocking itself took, i think they couldve milked that a little bit less cause i was under the impression that if one springlock failed they All Would Instantaneously And Your Flesh Body Will Become Occupied By A Full Endoskeleton. but no we just get very slow rib beartrap. w/e though still cool and again the leadup to it was really good even knowing exactly how it would end, like just the really slow shuffling of the animatronics towards him? like yeah it's slow and kinda tedious but its also like. theres literally nothing you can do, youre surrounded and defenseless and theyre infinitely faster and stronger than you and now they remember that you killed them. and you just have to sit there and watch them slowly slowly get closer all while trying to talk your way out of it knowing youre fucked. 10/10 they did that part well

oh and that also falls under changes i liked, i liked that instead of "afton tries to escape intangible ghosts by getting into old decrepit suit which then fails and kills him" it was "afton was already in the suit to do murders in and has brainwashed the bots to follow him" wait omg point postponed i just realized that part is from security breach. i thought vanessa was the only thing they brought over from that i didnt even notice that they werent doing the theyre-attacking-all-adults-indiscriminately thing goddamn. omg wait and the fact that the restaurants already closed in this one, it really is just a blend of all the games huh. scott do you see how much more coherent your plot couldve been if there wasnt So much going on. anyways. back to what i was saying. instead of "afton tries to escape intangible ghosts by getting into old decrepit suit which then fails and kills him" it was "afton was already in the suit to do murders in and brainwashed the ghosts into thinking he was their friend so they would help him do murders while possessing the robots. then they get their memories back and the robots turn on him and.. i think deliberately? set off the springlocks, or were just aiming to regular kill him and the springlocks failing was a happy accident? then the robots drag him away as they keep slowly one by one collapsing into him", like the first one made a lot of sense for the game and the timeline and the second one just feels right for this too. it's still his hubris that kills him, still his springlocks, it's just in one version the hubris is "trusting his springlock design to still work after however many years" and in the other its "thinking he has conplete control over the ghosts he killed", plus the ghosts finally get a bit more direct participation in his death than in the other version lol.

one change i did not like. forced het romance. like i dunno i guess im happy for them, both of those characters have certainly earned happy endings by this point so its nice they can get something cutesy. but also. like cmon man it's vanessa and mike do we have to do this she just got stabbed stop holding her hand

oh also this change wasnt really good or bad i just thought it was funny, vanessas a full on cop now? like i get they prolly just dont wanna have two security guards or something but i mean. it wouldve been really easy to just say she was the day shift guard? thatd explain why she had more information on the bots and the place's history than him, why she's always Around, it wouldve even flowed into the vanessa afton reveal pretty well too because like. yeah obviously a guy doing murders would want his main security guard to be someone he trusts and who better than his theoretically brainwashed daughter yknow? as it was she just kinda Showed Up Knowing Stuff And Ignoring Questions and later afton's like "you were supposed to be keeping an eye on him" but like of course Mike was getting dodgy about the weirdo cop loitering nearby for no reason, thats sus as hell lmao. vs "experienced security guard here to show you the ropes" he would have a much easier time trusting that she actually did have his best interests at heart. idk it just seemed like a weird change to me lmao

ummm oh my roommate pointed out the fact that when they tried to springlock abby the suit they were aiming for looked suspiciously like circus baby and abby and baby are anagrams so thats fun. it's hard to tell though if shes intended to be a rework of elizabeth or if vanessa's filling that role now. cause like on the one hand, michael's younger sister whose name is v close to baby, on the other hand, vanessa is afton's daughter. so idk i feel like it could go either way. if abby's elizabeth i guess that negates the thing about garret maybe being crying child's name bc then theyd prolly just be keeping mike's name the same. w/e

oh my god i completely forgot when i was talking about changes to the afton springlock thing, they had him deliberately put his mask on after the other springlocks started releasing and say the "i always come back" line, i thought that was an excellent touch. like he's actively dying a horrific death and is like. no no. im not leaving this bot. this shit is going to suck ass no matter what so i might as well do all i can to ENSURE my soul gets locked in this fuckin thing, go on stab me in the brain lets do this. i will however also say that having him say "i always come back"... before he's even come back the first time? is a little bit weird, i know thats another one of the "we have to include this in the fnaf movie" things so im not mad but just in the moment it def flows a bit weird. like mf you don't even have one example of that yet much less several to be saying "always" about

OH AND THE BIGGEST ONE. THE ANIMATRONICS. theyre so good. like im so glad they went all in on that, i think they probably knew that if there was one single thing they had to get absolutely 100% right to avoid a fan uprising it was those and by god did they deliver, theyre so big and so unsettling and so fun. chica's wink at abby was the best part of the movie no questions asked. or alternatively bonnie falling over after they built the fort. like theyre all just so good. OH MY GOD OR IN CHICA'S INTRODUCTION SEQUENCE WHERE YOU CAN SEE HER JUST. SCOOTING BY THROUGH THE VENT?? THAT WAS THE FUNNIEST THING OF ALL TIME HELLO???

god. but yeah i was honestly expecting it to be a lot worse than it was. also this mike is a bad brother/dad figure. but i guess in the games he also kind of is the pinnacle of bad brother so i mean it couldve been a lot worse. theres definitely some rough parts, i mightve mentioned this already but i felt like a few of the dramatic pause things were a bit too drawn out, like i said the springlocks locking is one good example of that but another that i REALLY found slow was like. in the opening we watch a guy get turbomurdered by the swirly blade mask and it takes. way longer than i feel like was necessary. also unnecessary: a jumpcut a second from scared eyes to swirly blades to hands fumbling and repeating during that. oh another thing that was weird to me, why was mike so insistent on sleeping specifically at night? to the point of deliberately sleeping on the job? like i get he wanted to revisit the kidnapping dream but like. presumably he could dream just as well during the day, no? done his night shift then once it was up rolled out a sleeping bag for a quick powernap before heading home? idk that just felt. forced to me

more random things, i am sad we didnt get a whiff of henry emily (my fringe theory was that their twist to change it from the games was they were gonna make henry be evil, rip to that idea) or the puppet/charlie, and kinda sad they changed the kid possessing golden freddy to be a boy like. we love cassidy and her Undying Rage Towards Afton's Soul smh why would you get rid of her. also loved balloon boy, kinda wish mangle had gotten like a similar level appearance but thats w/e. oh also while i did appreciate the low gore level there were also a few times where it was a bit weird how minor the injuries the dead people had were. like this man just had his face put in a blender mask and he just has like. some forehead gashes or whatever? he should look like someone stirred up jello

anyways with that gross thought i think i am out of things to say about the movie for now. if anyone else watched it already and somehow read all of this blease tell me your thoughts

i always thought that sam like. either had a Moment of snapping postgame (like in the police station or something, right after the interviews) or straight up dropped off the map and told nobody where she went immediately after the events of the game. like, she Will do whatever she can to get these assholes (i say this affectionately) off the mountain alive. and she's willing to bite back a lot of what she might feel in order to stay focused on that goal. but afterwards? sam snapping is sooo special to me. i think that if she drops off the map she snaps eventually too (because i do see her returning at some point, i think sam's instincts are to outrun the things that bother her but she does, rationally, see the inevitability of having to face those things. so she comes back.)

GOSH i can totally see both things happening tbh... like? in regards to after the police interviews, you can just.....TELL she was on the verge of snapping during the interview. just like. the way she was carrying herself and the way she was talking....her EXPRESSIONS....... you can just TELL how pissed off and angry and bitter and betrayed she felt. and its SOOOO GOOD.... esp looking at how at she acted throughout the entire game..... its such a stark juxtaposition to her usual helpful and strong and levelheaded and whatnot demeanor..... and i think that is so TASTY........

and abt her just. leaving without a trace? i can soooo see that happening too. i made a lil thing abt that a while back, abt sam and emily willing to leave EVERYTHING behind them, but gosh..... sam especially.... she absolutely tells no one abt her plans andjust. leaves. maybe she stays near by? or maybe she travels to a different country? or maybe she just sits in her house no longer interacting w/ anyone? who knows. the thing is just. she fucks off and no one knows what she's doing or where she is. and i love that

and her doign Whatever it takes to get all these Assholes off that mountain is so just.... its so interesting to me. bc seeing how close sam was to both beth and hannah, after josh of course, she absolutely held SOME sort of resentment for her friends. albeit extremely buried but, it MUST still be there. and before i think sam sort of. blamed herself for this anger residing in her? bc like. SHE couldve stopped it SHE couldve done more SHE couldve gotten to hannah faster. and its like.... she doesnt even have PROOF that hannah and beth were actually ...... gone. and just based on personal hc, i see sam acting as the groups like ........ therapist. i think after their disappearance, the rest of the group HEAVILY relied on sam in terms of talking w/ her and shit... bc SHE was the closest to them aside from josh, and thus, sort of like. paving sam's way to the rest of the group. which is also based on a hc of mine, i dont talk abt it much and ill prob elaborate some other time, but i always saw sam as the outlier of the group aka not rly a part of their lil thing to begin with. i saw sam as friends w/ beth and hannah at the beginning and thats sort of it. she became associated w/ josh and everyone else bc of course they're siblings. but anyway. yeah! i think she blamed herself for her potential anger due to 1. the lack of proof that beth and hannah were actually gone and 2. the fact that everyone sort of came to HER to talk abt what happened. like. shes everyone's designated therapist..... and who is she to deny that position? who is she to say no? if that what it means to finally feel Welcome into this group, then so be it, you know?

SAM SNAPPING IS SOO SPECIAL TO ME TOO..... i just think her emotional regulation is dogshit LMAO is that even the correct term? i dont even think thats the correct term, but anyway. i just think her regulation of her anger is soooo bad. but in like. the complete opposite way that emily regulates her anger yk? she probably resorts to immediately pushing it to the side (for other people's sake) or blaming herself for that anger, and thus demeaning its...legitimacy

i LOOOVE the possibility of her leaving for a good amount of time and then coming back and still snapping..... i bet she used that time to really ? digest everything that happened to her, her friends, and beth and hannah and josh. which only fueled her anger you know? youre sooo right abt her instinctively running away from the shit that bothers her, while also understanding that she'll inevitably have to face it. so her coming back and then facing that shit and then snapping is so just !!!!!! youre so right anon

and this is all like..... following thebest possible scenario. meaning that everyone lives and stuff. bc i have MANY more thoughts if mike ends up shooting emily and ashley conceals the truth hehehe..... hopefully ill be able to transfer that note into a post tonight or so

okay so like this is just my Train Of Thought but im not as shaken up by todays news as i thought id be. for a few reasons, i think:

im a different person than i was in 2019

i have a better understanding of how games are made

story mode is still in tact which is what i wanted

i have my phd to finish lol

as far as seasonal content goes im p happy w the game

i play the game more competitively now and ive noticed it changed my relationship w pve

it mostly just sucks to think abt all the contradictions that lead up to this. i think we all agree ow2 was announced way too early in a confusing and unclear way, and i blame abk corpos for that. but i also cant help but feel jeff kaplans vision was doomed from the start. in hindsight, talent trees for every new hero means 40+ new abilities every 4 months. that scope isnt possible without an army.

hero missions were also rly poorly defined from the start. it seems like they wanted to make 100s of handcrafted non-canon missions to grind out progression, which again, huge scope problem. even under the BEST conditions (which we all know isnt the case at blizzard--again abk corpos) that would be a pipe dream. thats just... a decade worth of work.

then kaplan takes off, and so does a lot of senior leadership w him. new team 4 leadership were given a shitty situation and had to pick up the pieces. if anything, im most upset abt all the stuff being vaulted, years of work gone bc of mismanagement on the directorial and executive level. as dumb as it sounds idk if we would have even had an ow2 with kaplan in the drivers seat.

i suppose there are lessons to be taken from this, but idk if the ppl who theyre most relevant for will take them. kaplans team tried to make titan not once but twice, and if the rumors ive heard are true its possible theyre trying a third time at a secret startup studio. maybe the best thing to do is to just let it go. koticks a ceo hes fucking clueless and should take a long walk off a short pier.

that being said: ill always be a little sad for what we couldve had, but im also excited for what we are getting and im a lot happier w current leadership on team 4. really excited abt the lore codex, shorts, new (peruvian) support, the tank who is probably mauga, dndwatch, hero mastery systems, etc etc. sad that stuff got overshadowed today.

i wanna see how kh3 tackles that whole thing because it's so eerily similar to what happens in the manga. and in the manga, he is in so much pain and agony, AND HE'S STILL FIGHTING. ROXAS IS THERE WITH HIM, HIS ONLY COMPANION, and then kh3 just tripped and fell on the glass table.

also, i think about this constantly, i want them to do something with it so bad.

YEA i cant wait to see the rest of kh3 manga chapters and how they handle everything, i especially loved the manga versions for days and kh2 and the way their stories were told - even tho kh3 has a Lot going on that might be hard to show well.. amano's been good at it so far tho so i have faith :]

but yeah that whole thing with Roxas is just . oughh. im not gonna lie even i forgot that Roxas was like. still there with Sora when he perishes until i thought abt it writing those tags but now that ive realized that. why the hell did they not take advantage of that!!!! like ok i get that it was more focused on the destiny trio in the ways i talked abt in the tags but yknow. what happened to "he makes up the difference"?? that wouldve been a great moment for it to shine!! ik they already make an example of it during the Xemnas n Saïx fight but still!!

part of me wishes Roxas couldve have more outward influence on Sora the way Ven did. granted, he arguably had an affect on Sora back in kh2, and while i dont remember if it was canon or even intended, that could be applied to both his appearance (his lighter hair, mostly) and his behavior (his hostility towards the organization members; ive seen this argued both as smth Roxas had influence over and purely based on Soras experiences thus far, and i believe in both personally) but Ven in kh3 was literally able to speak and somewhat act through him. im pretty sure this was meant to show that Ven was fully ready to awaken or smth like that, and that wasnt sonething that was needed for Roxas; hes alright, just needed a body/vessel for himself. but i still think itd be a cool way to express the earlier sentiment. and it wouldnt necessarily have to be Roxas "taking over" either, the manga shows very well how Roxas gives Sora strength from within and that he definitely does make a difference

to be fair tho...... whether that wouldve helped Sora in the moment that he gives in to his despair, im not sure. in kh2, both manga and game, hes in a very different mindset than kh3. in that part of the manga especially, despite thinking everyone (except Roxas) is gone for good, he still has the belief that they can live on within him. and that, plus the literal strength hes getting from Roxas, is keeping him going despite it all. in kh3 his self confidence is beyond fucked, and he truly believes in that moment that hes lost Everything, not just his friends. thats hard to come back from

i wonder if he were to remember that Roxas were still there, if that wouldve helped. whether for comfort in the way that hes not really alone then, or for motive to keep living bc if he dies then Roxas is gone too, or whatever reason, i think it couldve changed something, even if its just a little bit. hell, itd have been great if something like that happened afterwards in the final world. id like to think Roxas had a hand in Sora surviving ..... not sure how but its a nice thought. either way i do wish Sora n Roxas' connection and that moment they have in san fransokyo had more....... More. in kh3. it was a great opportunity that they didnt use/forgot about n im now sad abt it forever

well lets not lie and say they dont look similar. once you look at him long enough the differences become clearer, but at certain angles and when u see him for the first time, the resemblance is def strong. but that does NAWT excuse all this bullshit.. the military comments are so silly when u think about why and how bts are enlisting like they literally insisted on going when they couldve been exempted at any time of day. “tae really needs an exemption from the military” girl LMFAO the man wants to serve so let him. tae would fight this man to be where hes at rn so can yall please stop w these tired, ran thru, unfunny jokes that not even bts would chuckle at.. nobody but u & ur corny followers are giggling like plz let it rest.

Long sorta rant post abt the irene dimension stuff, sorry :3

i think that the irene dimension's whole "one year=one minute" concept is so cool sometimes, because its not like jess forgot about leap years or anything, she actually calculated that shit ! one second in the irene dimension = ~6.08737 days in the overworld [365.2422 days divided by the 60 seconds it takes for a year to pass], the max amount of leap years possible in the 15 years that everyone was gone wouldve been what, 4, if the year they went in was a leap year ? [meaning that it wouldve had to be before february 29th that they went in if we want it to be 4 extra leap year days. this is also omitting the whole "its not a leap year if its divisible by 100, but it is if its divisible by 400" idea that apparently exists, so lets just pretend this all definitely happened in the odd middle of a century]. thats an extra 3 days if you suppose that the year they went in wasn't a leap year, so supposedly they couldve been in the irene dimension for ~5,478.633 days total, aka EXACTLY 15 years. so if we consider the day they went into the irene dimension as being exactly 15 years in the past from the day they emerged, i think that puts us on a timeline where the day of the war between phoenix drop and scaleswind had to have been [at the earliest] march 1st of a year divisible by 4 ? idk i think its funny if it was exactly 15 years of a gap, like imagine the remaining villagers commemorating the day 15 years ago that their lord and several others disappeared, ONLY FOR HER TO SHOW UP THE EXACT SAME AS SHE WAS THEN. obviously it doesnt have to be exact, just a thought that kinda gives a base for a day of the years that the war and return were on, or at least it could eliminate january and february from the timeline.

how long was zoey in the irene dimension ??? like she only left once laurance and aphmau left. the time difference between when she appeared and when they left during the episode was about 43 seconds total, so considering each second in the irene dimension being around 6.08737 days long, she could've been in there for at least 261.75691 DAYS. A LITTLE MORE THAN 8 AND A HALF MONTHS. THATS SO LONG ??? LIKE DID DANTE AND THE OTHERS EVER QUESTION HOW LONG SHE WAS GONE ??? like imagine the absolute TERROR from malachi and levin once they realize that their only mother figure left has been gone for that long ?? obviously its not probably exactly that long that she was gone, but still, its a long time for those 2 to be left alone with no parental figure [besides maybe dante] to guide them through leading a dying village. if we think that the return date of aph and the others was on march 1st, the [probably] earliest possible anniversary of their disappearance and the war on phoenix drop, that means zoey probably disappeared to the irene dimension sometime in mid-late june of the year before.

also. that means that since aph said a few days before garroth's return that it had only been a few months since they got out of the irene dimension, zoey was honestly probably in there longer than the extended time that garroth was alone with zane [depending on your definition of "a few"]. damn.

ANYWAYS SORRY THAT WAS LONG BUT I THINK THE LITTLE DETAILS AND IMPLICATIONS OF THE IRENE DIMENSION'S TIME DIFFERENCE IS REALLY INTERESTING also it raises a lot of questions for me abt the nether's sense of time. but thats a whole different thing to get into ==|:-3

anwyay for the serious request: date post-game having nightmares abt saito and all that couldve gone wrong (like, him shooting hitomi)

Date gives the command to Aiba, and it feels like his heart rips in two.

He wants to look away, but he can't. His eyes are glued to Saito. Saito, in his body. Hitomi struggling, the gun to her head, the fear in her eyes. Will he fail to protect her again? "Initiating self-destruct sequence." Aiba speaks as calmly as she can. He knows how much this hurts for her, too.

And Date looks, as if in the mirror, as his own head--Saito's head--is blown to gory pieces.

Gasping for air, Date shoots upright. Taking heaving breaths, he looks around him.

A dream. He's back at his apartment.

He looks around himself, trying to ground himself and regulate his breathing. It looks like he fell asleep watching tv; it's tuned to static. He reaches around for the remote, but can't find it, so he just presses the button on the tv. Running a hand through his hair--he still expects it to be longer than it is--he turns around, and spots Mizuki, sleeping soundly in her bed. His heart clenches for a moment. He's so glad she's okay.

Date moves into the bathroom, then stops. He almost doesn't want to, but he looks at himself in the mirror. Scraggly black hair, unshaven. Bony face. Visibly older.

...It's going to take a long time for this to stop being weird.

For a second, he sees Saito's maniacal grin staring back at him, and he shakes his head to get rid of the vision. His thoughts are spiralling. He usually doesn't allow himself to think about things too hard--it's how he copes. Move on to the next case, worry about that instead. He can't do that with something so personal as his own identity.

His identity... Who is Kaname Date, really? It's as if the ‘him’ from before six years ago, and the him from the last six years are fighting. He’s still the same soul, the same personality, the same consciousness, so it shouldn’t matter, should it? He’s gotten everything back, so why does he feel so empty? Things can’t ever go back to the way they were before the New Cyclops Serial Killings. He won’t ever be the same.

The mirror looks back at him silently.

Why is it, that when he looks in the mirror, he expects to see Saito's face? Though he has regained his memories, it's not like the past six years meant nothing to him. He lived as Kaname Date, in the body of Saito Sejima. That's a fact. Now that he remembers who he was before then, well...

Hitomi. Iris. How can he return to them after he'd abandoned them like that? After he'd caused them so much pain? He'd like to think that he's mature enough to handle this logically. He knows the facts. For God's sake, he just had this conversation with Mizuki...

...but he can't help but feel responsible for everything. He killed Mizuki's parents. Saito wanted revenge on him, so he went after the people Date cared for most. He should never have gotten attached, he should have done something. If things were different, Mizuki wouldn't...

Date locks eyes with himself in the mirror again.

...Mizuki wouldn't want him to think this way. She would call him a stupid idiot, and ask how that made any sense at all. ...He remembers her calling him her hero, though he doesn't know...how he remembers that, exactly.

He cares for her more than he ever expected to. This change has been a shock for her, but to her credit, Mizuki has adjusted well. She treats him the same as she did before with his new appearance. Mostly. He can tell. On bad days, or when she catches his reflection out of the corner of her eye, there’s something there. The wariness of a stranger in your house you don’t recognize.

The poor girl has gone through so much, and Date just keeps causing problems for her... if he were the 'him' six years ago, he'd think he needed to move far away to protect her.

But he knows better now. Mizuki needs him. And Date needs Mizuki. They've come to rely on each other as family, and Date is done turning his back on family.

okay season 5 lets GOOOO: gonna take a minute to talk plot here. a few minutes actually my apologies i have come into your askbox swinging.

i feel like the season definitely couldve been streamlined in some aspects and i do wish they had done some things differently so bear with me for a second while i try to put things into words. so the way the season kicks off, it seems like they're going to be trying to explore kai & lloyd's relationship given kai's "ill watch over you" and how he tries to slot back into the de facto leader position after lloyd is gone, but they kind of lose that as the season progresses, which is annoying because the pieces are there!

like. morro is simultaneously foils for both lloyd and kai. last season, kai's "im gonna be the green ninja !!!!!!" gets brought up again by both chen and lloyd and also further brought up by lloyd that kai still… hasnt really gotten over himself, but it doesnt really get properly followed up either then or now. he's still subconsciously prioritizing gaining glory for himself as opposed to prioritizing what needs to get done, even if it means that he's not the one to do it.

this carries further again back into the beginning of the arc after lloyd is gone and kai keeps trying to be the leader, even if he repeatedly has no idea what he's doing. its about his glory, not about who would make the best leader (zane its zane the only reason zane leading didnt work out was because the writers knew it would be too powerful), and again is relevant to the arc because kai does this to try and fill the void in the team that lloyd left. its about the two of them.

given morro's existence as somebody who started off as "im gonna be the green ninja !!!!!!!!" and then never got over it, you'd think that we wouldve gotten a fight between him and kai where we circle back to the things brought up last season by lloyd (which works out really nicely as morro is connected to both of them by nature of being narrative foils) and we get a nice tidy wrap up in a battle of ideologies.

ok consider, for a moment: kai wants to be the one to take the glory and beat the snot out of the giant hairy eyeball, and then at some point realizes that lloyd is the one who has to beat it. unfortunately for him, lloyd is in the middle of a deathmatch with morro, so kai steps in to take morro on, making good on his promise to look out for lloyd, so that lloyd can go fulfill his destiny or whatever and save ninjago. as a result, kai steps away from his ego and the moment of glory he's always wanted bc he's realized that there are more important things to deal with, and then we get a fight dialogue abt how kai also thought he was going to be the green ninja and morro is like "why dont you resent lloyd too?!" and kai responds that he got over himself and his massive ego because !! character development !!!!! and the reason this fight is happening at all being because kai has finally let go of his need for glory & because morro never did and AUGH IT COULDVE WORKED OUT SO WELL

going back to lloyd i really dont understand why he wasnt the one to kill the preeminent - esp given his conversation with garmadon about how lloyd needs to grow up one day & how lloyd has his robe now symbolizing him taking on his dad's mantle, it wouldve made wayyyy more sense to have him be the one to finish the job and put his father to rest. yknow. like do i want to subject lloyd to round three of killing his dad? no ofc not but also. thematically yes absolutely

so then, the question becomes, if lloyd is the one to nuke the preeminent… where does that leave nya? and my answer to that is: she shouldve gotten a separate arc, frankly. this arc shouldve been about lloyd & kai's relationship, but in the canon arc nya is kind of just shoehorned in there to the detriment of pretty much everybody, including herself. she's got no narrative or thematic connection to the preeminent, shes not really relevant to the arc outside of the final battle, and she honestly deserved better.

OKAY PLOT STUFF ASIDE my brain has finally started turning on and the thought gears are cranking and i am beginning to form Opinions, which is great for me because i love having opinions. umm okay this is the other arc i am very familiar with and i had a ton of fun. it was very enjoyable. i got my terrible alt outfits and i am THRIVING

maybe one day the ninjago writers will have a season that doesnt nerf lloyd for the entire thing except the last three episodes. probably not but a girl can dream. whoever concepted the giant hairy eyeball and got it approved on a show whose target demographic is children is deranged and i love it. absolute madlad. godspeed for making something so horrifying.

i also find it VERY funny that morro's whole thing is "i am going to become the GREEN NINJA" like it even matters anymore. like bestie idk how to tell you this but that ship has sailed. the prophecy has been completed. functionally the green ninja title has no more meaning than the brown ninja.

also i cant believe cole is just . a ghost now. hes just like that i guess. i know we'll have to sort it out eventually but this is honestly a very funny status quo change.

ok i think thats aboutt it but yes i did really enjoy this season despite what my long diatribe above would have you believe. it was fun it was cool and i am very ready to head into the rest that this show has to offer.

also . btw if you dont want me to send u these things just tell me and i will stop w/ no hard feelings. personally i love people liveblogging things i like to me but i only belatedly realized this may not be universal so i am very sorry if its not 😔

yeahhhh season 5, while it has some banger concepts and The visually traumatic villain all good children's media has in their back pocket, is definitely where you can see the trend of incredibly good ideas with lackluster execution peaking... its still a really good and enjoyable show!!! but

anyway this is canon to me now i will be rolling it around in my head like a marble covered in paint. like those projects you do in elementary school art class or whatever. ooooh character parallels characters who are mirrors characters who are you but ___ but in EVERY possible direction between kai lloyd and morro.... fuck love triangles i need the threeway mirror. you are also Extremely correct that nya deserved her own thing + being more centered. water is fuckin cool as hell can't believe they flopped.

terrible alt outfits are requisite alongside overly grotesque villain design and im so glad you feel they delivered akdsjfds. the only scene i actually remember of this part is where jay, ever the out of touch accidental asshole, yells out "lloyd!! what's wrong with you!??" when morro shows up in his body but damn do i love it. this and cole on the bus when they're teachers,,, they're so stupid. they're canonically like 16. stop giving them jobs. keep doing it its perfect.

the prophecy nonsense getting dragged on for so long is so so frustrating but incredibly funny... what it means to be the green ninja changes every five seconds and honestly lloyd deserves it. just fuckin lie about what your powers are man. manipulate your friend group that being protectors means they gotta do x y and z. lloyd deserves his childhood shittiness back and all the others forgetting he was a petty little punk need to be reminded askdjfkfdsf

the fact!!! that cole just stays a ghost!!! fuckin wild. I never actually saw that get resolved when I was watching as a kid so for a solid decade he was just a ghost in my head. obsessed with the implications of him becoming human again but infinitely funny that unlike reasonable shows. dude just stayed dead after the finale. hi this is ninjago our stakes are REAL and our consequences LASTING. we promise. we made the earth guy incorporeal. he's chill about it now he thinks its cool.

edit: okay hey wait. does morro even know pixal exists. this is completely unimportant but i can’t stop thinking about it. shes still in zane’s head so i’d assume no but??? he does have lloyd’s memories??? does he even acknowledge her??? hm.

uhhhhhh i know Ive said this before but I think it should’ve been longer? I feel like things couldve gone a little crazier, so many concepts I feel like could’ve gone in many different ways. Also idk if this is unpopular or not but I think Vriska should’ve stayed dead? like no retcon? and like, idk, if she did come back with the retcon i really don’t think she wouldve acted how she had, I feel like she would’ve gotten mad that her plan didn’t work, bc she wanted Terezi to either kill her or let her go, no other options despite there being many different ways Terezi could’ve dealt with her. And I think that she would’ve gotten mad at John too, bc he was the one that ruined it, and maybe developed like pitch feelings that vacillated with her flushed feelings for him? idk I just hate how their meeting was kind of anticlimactic? I get that’s bc he saw Vriska in the dreambubbles a lot but retcon Vriska had never seen or met John in person at that point, so I feel like they could’ve done something better with that. idk when I think abt character relationships in a vacuum without any other overlapping relationships I’m like “yeah why didn’t this happen this would’ve been so cool if this happened” but I have so many relationships that I love and I want to say “well why can’t I do something with all of them in the same story?” and I was about to say I can’t do that but now I’m thinking that I will just do that. anyway uh vacillating pitch/flush/ashen vrisjohnkat is canon in my heart <3

shelby/lucy: doesn't make sense, compels me. i have no idea why i latched onto them as a couple bc they hardly interact one on one (other than shelby technically being the one who introduced her to the others?) and realistically shelby/laura or lucy/laura makes more sense if we're talking abt ships that have any kind of foundation in canon. However this is maybe exactly WHY it compels me. i think they have a lot in common tbh (difficult family relationships, attempted concealed identities). and while i find shelby super shippable with every core four member i can never really see any of those relationships working out in the long run for her (shelby/laura i always see as one sided/laura choosing otto, shelby/otto is a short lived teenage fling that has tons of chemistry but is also super tosxic for them both, and bloodline epilogue kind of confirmed my 'shelby and wing go on a 'break' post graduation and just never get back together' headcanon), whereas with lucy i think i can? like they have a good enough balance of similarities and differences (whereas shelby/otto are too similar and shelby/wing are too different for me). idk obviously in canon it could never work because lucy fucking DIED but it's fun to imagine aus where she didn't!

anastasia/nero: makes sense kinda, compels me. im so sorry mark walden i say this w all the love and respect in the world you CANNOT tell me you wrote those books not intending us to believe anastasia and nero hatefucked nasty. the whole bucharest thing is so deliciously vague like...idk what else couldve gone on. my more 'fun' nerostasia headcanons (eg that anastasia and elena were the twins, that anastasia/nero had some overlap with elena/nero) are definitely way out of the realm of canon though so i think i can't say it fully makes sense. anyway yes it compels the hell out of me they are my ants in a lab!!! i think i don't enjoy them on their own so much as i enjoy them as part of the rich tapestry of Fucked Up Furan Dynamics like the two are inextricable for me. but anyway yeah i think one of my fave fics ive ever written was that bucharest nerostasia fic. they really get my brain goin

elena/nero: makes sense, doesn't really compel me. makes sense because the whole romeo and juliet thing and also in the wider fanon saga of nero vs the furans it is objectively funny and very in character for nero to turn around and make his nemeses' baby sister into a teen mom. however while i am incredibly compelled by nero and the furans as a family, and am SUPER SUPER obsessed w elena on her own, them together specifically is not something i'm super interested in. elena is so so fascinating to me and always has been, but not because of her relationship w nero. i think it's fun to reflect on how nero perceives and elevates elena after her death, and it's fun to talk abt the consequences of their relationship, but the actual relationship itself devoid of any of the furan Drama? eh. just not something that particularly inspires me i don't think

raven/verity: makes sense, UNFORTUNATELY DOESNT COMPEL ME. to be clear when i say makes sense i mean in a hatefuck-y way. they were definitely homoerotically obsessed with each other even before raven murdered verity's sister. i wish wish WISH this was something that got my brain chugging because on paper it ticks all my boxes (messy hatesex, lesbians, assassins) but in practice it's just never been something i've gone 'wow i need to write/think abt this'. i started writing this benrius coleadership analysis a month ago and i finally deem it finished after weeks of not looking at it it so here we go

So as we all know their arcs in s1 start of completely on opposite ends. ben is less than psyched to be there while this is darius’ dream. however ben ends up stepping up during the train moment inspired by darius. they go through their struggles in s2; darius w leadership and ben w himself/survival. beginning of s3 they get brought together and are shown sadness leaving jurassic world because of their individual connection to it: darius w his dad through dinosaurs, and ben’s connection to himself through bumpy/island.

s3 has darius fighting to keep ben by their side bc he cant lose ben again bc that’s threatening his promise that he made to get everyone out safely. meanwhile darius’ attempts to do so threaten ben’s own selfhood. their interests are at a standstill both wanting to do what’s best for ben and having different ideas of such. bc of ben’s specific past that darius still feels guilt for is why he’s so unwilling to let ben go again, that much is obvious. ben is the only one able to absolve darius of the guilt in a deeper conversation than the one we got at their reunion, reassuring that he doesn’t blame darius and loves darius. Now that’s important bc even though the others have tried to remind darius that he’s not at fault for ben this was the only one that was able to get through to him fully. brooklynn did remind darius in s2 and sure; bc its ben himself that he’s able to say “i’m the person you dropped and i’m telling you it’s not your fault” but ben makes sure to not only absolve him of that guilt but to remind darius of his doings and how he’s always tried to protect him—to protect everyone (He’s branching out from his specific instance) they couldve stopped there but we got the “I love you bud” which! the bud is important so i don’t want to take it out of context but i just find it so prominent that ben decides to tell him That instead of a “you’re amazing” like. it’s coming from ben’s feelings. “quite a pair” from darius like theyre partners on equal ground (which they are! co-leaders.) anyways.

through the seasons we get shoulder touching. lots of it. it means reassurance from darius, worry from ben in s1; but in s3 the Amount of reassuring shoulder touches we get. they begin to be able to communicate support through this without words. while i did talk abt their arcs entwining from s1, s3 really shows the equal level they get to be on by being able to comfort one another. the thing that differentiates them from the other campers is ben being the cause of darius’ guilt which means he’s the only one able to help darius w that specifically. having ben there is its own comfort. darius feeling down after the historical jurassic park structure was destroyed was pleasantly surprised by a ben comfort shoulder touch. this doesn’t stop in s4; after ben’s speech, ben isn’t sure if it worked and while darius is going through his own disappointment, he takes the time to give some reassurance to ben. even when darius doesn’t know what to say after they think brooklynn and kenji are gone (and ben pulls away, knowing there’s nothing to say. damn his self blame. will get into that in a moment) there’s an attempt. after darius’ love for dinos cause them to miss the plane again, ben touches his shoulder to tell him non-verbally “hey. nothing can be said rn” and as this post explained so well, gives the other campers space from darius. i am willing to bet a convo takes place on the walk there with ben trying to absolve darius of guilt of “holding everyone back” (sound familiar? ben being tired of holding everyone back in s1) despite it being the right thing. ben can understand darius bc of their connections to dinosaurs thats one big similarity of their arcs and why they work so well together along w how darius has dino knowledge and ben w island knowledge. both of them shielding others behind them w their arms at one point showing their inherent need to protect others bc of this advantage of knowledge they have

the traits they inherit from each other in s4 broadcasted so obviously like. ben’s attempts to lighten everyone’s mood with a plan of action (bc darius for once is not coming up w it. Sign one of shared leadership). ben’s “it’s all my fault” self blame taken from darius i see….bc hes the one who made the plan this time, and darius HAS to understand that when plans fail and people are put at risk the crushing guilt that falls upon him. the moment he steps up he feels like he messes things up. however even before this they both tried to do their parts to keep the group running smoothly, most noticeable during the brooklyn/sammy tension where they both try and dismantle it in their own way (sure ben more because of them being loud but. hey i’ll take it) ben goes through a bit of a leadership arc trying to get darius out of kash’s clutches coming up w another plan that nearly fails but doesnt and he gets darius back! wooo reward. i could talk about his reaction compared to the others when talking abt darius’ potential danger and how worried he was that entire arc but i’m gonna save that for the season compilation post

meanwhile the short arc of darius having to choose between dinosaurs and his friends was done excellently (in how it was introduced not how it was…executed). his need to do the overall right thing vs saving his friends…im proud of him for that. even if the season shouldve given him space to explore his feelings and mental state. but Anyways that must’ve created some sort of cognitive dissonance with his self much like what ben had to go through in season 2. i wish we could’ve seen more of his struggle w choosing one over the other…but his little persona he put on was 100% inspired by ben’s with the “i survived all alone and i am amazing for it” aura. not to mention ben single dad w firecracker and darius just. smiling at him???? he wasn’t even there for ben’s struggle w connecting w the dino, although he was in s3 where ben decided isolation was the way to go so he’s probably like Woo my boy is reaching out!! maybe ben confided in darius about missing bumpy and he just automatically got what was going on. or he’s just gay yeah that could be it. and then ben’s little attempts to impress darius where he says the most cheesy line ever and gets all flustered when darius isn’t impressed i was like Ayo whats goin on

just ben’s admiration for darius i really hope that gets addressed because the leadership bit of ben coming up with the plan—they were already coming up w plans together back in s3: to blow up something as a distraction, to defeat scorpius rex (where ben overrode darius’ “IM going to stop then” with “what are WE gonna do”), to save brooklynn (“if your plan turns out as good as this model, we’re in great shape” go co leadership!!!) and had their little meeting upstairs as the files were being copied, and s4 ben telling darius to listen up, then being like “Darius is already on board. Everyone else ready” like darius agreeing is the only thing that matters which to be fair that is the main leader. but it was rly nice to see him falling into this role in darius’ absence. honestly i somehow forgot brooklynn’s short bit of leadership at the time when i wrote this so i think it’s unfair to not acknowledge it. both ben and brooklynn are darius’ right hand ppl but this post is more focused on ben’s role. at the beginning of the season we see darius communicating w ben like they’re already partners, telling him his solo task to pack the food up while they were stalking the compy and then relying on ben to distract it with berries

i’m just really excited to see where s5 takes them because i really do love both of them as characters and their dynamic together bc they just complement each other so well. i want to see more of darius’ emotions and how he/others deal with them. i want to see ben’s emotions and how he acts while finding himself in the new situation. i want to see them comforting each other bc they know how to and figuring out plans together. they’re just so interesting to me bc of how they started w the guilt and how their personalities reflect and work off one another and i hope i can explore that accurately in my writings.

so ive had this idea for an amphibia fangame for a lil while now-

(LONG post)

its based around the idea that sometime after anne got sent back to earth, she decides to sneak out one night to visit sasha and marcys bedrooms and poke through their stuff. this causes a bunch of memories to come back to anne through flashbacks while she tries to process everything thats happened and her feelings abt their friendship.

i was thinking itd be mostly a visual novel type thing. maybe with a few small choices, but the story would be mostly linear. thered be around 3 main story beats: a prologue bit w/ anne sneaking out of her house, marcys bedroom, and sashas bedroom. also one of the main mechanics would be looking at one of their bedrooms and clicking on random objects of importance and triggering a flashback sequence.

it came from the idea that anne will probably try to just shove all her emotions down and try to ignore her feelings abt true colors and everything that went down then. especially with what we saw in the sneak peek, anne will probably try to hide her emotions and bottle them up, which is obviously not healthy. so eventually shes gonna have to work through her emptional baggage and try to process everything.

i havent thought through EVERYTHING just yet, just some more major plot points and maybe one or two ideas for flashbacks. nothing too solid yet. but heres a bit more detailed runthrough of the plot

summary - prologue

so it would start off with anne at home. she and her mom are talking outside annes room. her moms concerned abt how annes been handling everything that happened in amphibia but anne keeps brushing everything off. her mom tries to get her to open up, but she keeps dismissing her and eventually shuts herself in her room. after taking a bit to cool off and think anne decides that shes gonna take the night to just ride off her emotions and stop repressing them for once. she also makes an impulsive decision to sneak out and check out marcy and sashas rooms.

anne goes to gather her stuff in her room, and just as shes about to climb out the window, sprig walks in to check on her. hes still rly concerned abt his big sis but he knows he cant stop her. he tries to go with anne, but she tells him she needs to do this on her own. so, sprig lets her go and tries to cover for her while shes gone.

so at this point i’ll probably give the player the choice of whose house to visit first. it doesnt rly impact the story or whatever, but i guess it might have a small emotional impact depending on whose house u choose to go to first??

(quick note: after this bit, there arent too many specific details for the plot and stuff like that. its largely just an overall idea of how the plot is gonna go. and even then, there isnt much to it. i didnt think that far ahead yet, which is why there isnt as much refinement yet. so far i just have general ideas for how annes gonna get to the bedrooms, with a couple of vague flashback ideas. just keep that in mind; this whole thing is still being thought over and planned as im typing this out)

summary - sasha

with sasha, annes still rly conflicted abt how she feels abt her. of course shes still rly hurt by being backstabbed by her twice and swordfighting her as many times. but as much as she hates sasha she cant bring herself to fully give up on sash. she hates her guts but deep down shes still willing to give sash another chance.

there may or may not be a small sequence where anne has to sneak into sashas house, but eventually she works her way into sashas room. im not entirely sure abt the details of sashas house n her family yet. im probably gonna wait for info from s3 until i solidify anything, but for now i do know that sashas family has a big house n theyre probably rich.

so anne goes into sashas room and its been left pretty much untouched ever since annes birthday, save for the few times someone came in to dust things off. again, dont rly have all the details for sashas room, but it kind of has a vibe of controlled chaos, with organized clutter and a bit of a touch of a rebellious teen girl. one detail i do want to have is a calendar opened up to the month the trio disappeared, with annes birthday circled and highlighted so much that its impossible to miss.

the calendar itself might include a flashback. im thinking of also having a varsity jacket and some old stuffed animal be different “artifacts” that trigger their own memories. there’ll be a bunch more, but those are the only ideas i have so far fjsbndnd

summary - marcy

ok so i want to be rly mean about marcys segment: this is going off the theory that marcys parents moved away while the trio was in amphibia.

anne doesnt know this yet tho, so shes in for quite a surprise when she turns onto marcys street to find a realtor sign on the front lawn. the clues are all there: an empty driveway, sign on the lawn, an overall empty vibe coming from the house. but it doesnt completely register at first. its not til anne actually comes up close does she notice the sign.

anne tries to deny it, and decides to prove to herself that “no marcys parents wouldnt do this. theyre not that cruel. im just gonna check marcys room myself.” the front doors locked, so she just goes over to marcys window and climbs in.

but its completely empty.

ok not totally empty, but a lot of marcys furniture and stuff is gone, except for a few stray toys and other “junk.” the home guys (idk what theyre called????) are still kind of in the process of cleaning everything out, so theres still some stuff left here and there around the house. but its still way too empty. and its yet another gut punch for anne.

anne searches the rest of the house a bit more, hoping that shes just hallucinating. but no, marcys parents are really gone. she tried to deny it before, but now she has more of an idea of how shitty the wu parents are. so anne decides to just mope around in marcys old room, checking out the stuff their parents left behind.

maybe she finds an old blanket marcy liked when he was rly young. or an old rubiks cube from marcys vast collection. a cnc figurine, some cards, a pride flag, and old diary? a couple of other old toys, an old report card or two, or maybe even some stray clothes. whatever anne finds, its all thats left of marcy, at least in LA.

it really doesnt leave anne in that much of a better emotional position. she already felt conflicted enough about what happened in true colors and what she found out abt marcy. but seeing even a small glimpse of what marcy was dealing with, it just makes her more confused. marcy was such a sweet kid! theres no way they couldve done anything wrong. yet here anne was, betrayed by both of her childhood friends.

only now is anne really taking the time to process the fact that marcy essentially kidnapped her and sasha with the calamity box. he didnt mean to do it, and theres no way they couldve known the box would actually work, but it doesnt completely excuse marcy. his actions still hurt anne and sash, and while they meant the best of intentions, it didnt rly come through that way.

and now marcy was dead. stabbed in the back by the newt king.

and now annes curled up in an empty bedroom, wrapped up in one of marcys old blankets, trying to wrap her head around her feelings about marcy while reminiscing in the past.

summary - extras/epilogue??

i kind of like the idea that anne ends up drifting off in which ever bedroom ended up being the second one she visited. she slowly comes back to consciousness, with her surroundings feeling somewhat familiar, only to wake up in horror bc “OH SHIT I FORGOT TO GO BACK HOME” im not completely sold on the idea tho bc it feels a bit abrupt and like too much of a tone shift?? idk it doesnt feel exactly right

but anyways, im also playing around with the idea of a small epilogue scene with the calamity trio hanging out in annes room, a good amount of time after amphibia ended. dont know what theyre doing in there, but theyre just chilling and feeling a bit nostalgic i guess.

but uh yeah thats pretty much what ive got for the overall idea. it doesnt feel too out of reach, but somethjng like this would definitely be ambitious. i could mayyyybe handle writing out the vn and drawing the character sprites, but i have no idea how to code a vn or draw detailed backgrounds, both of which would be pretty important to this fangame fjsndj. so i might consider having help with this.

THIS ISNT ANY SORT OF PROMISE OR WHATEVER. id rly love to follow through and make this fangame a thing, but im not making any guarantees. i have no idea if i’ll actually follow through, but i would definitely love to.

who knows. maybe in like a couple years this might actually become a thing. but for now i have no idea
