fengqing + 41 pls
PS you're my favorite fq writer
41. --to pretend.
Last time when they broke up, it was only for a few days, and everyone knew it wasn't official. This time, it's been almost a whole month, and the only reason they haven't told anyone is because of the wedding. Xie Lian made all of the arrangements with the assumption they'd be together, and not wanting to ruin his day is the only thing Feng Xin and Mu Qing still agree on.
Xie Lian finds them at the lantern-lit reception, looking radiant in the scarlet wedding silks that contrast his usual preference for white. "I'm so happy that we can all be here together!" he declares as he sweeps his friends into a three-way hug. "Who knows--maybe there will be another wedding to look forward to in the near future, hmm?"
Feng Xin looks away first, which leaves Mu Qing to be the one to force a smile. Two months ago, the comment would have made him blush... no. Better make it three. Now it only feels like a kick in the gut, except he can't let it show.
"Let's get a picture together," Xie Lian suggests, slipping his phone out of his sleeve. "Here. You two together. Mu Qing, your arm's the longest, so you should take it."
As they jostle into position, Mu Qing finds himself leaning against Feng Xin, a gesture that used to be familiar; he feels Feng Xin's breath near his ear, even catches the faint smell of his favorite shampoo when he turns to give the phone back to Xie Lian. Feng Xin smiled for the picture, so he doesn't want to look at it.
Still, he makes the mistake of checking Feng Xin's expression as he draws back. Feng Xin's eyes drop to his lips, then travel back up to meet Mu Qing's gaze with an obvious question. Mu Qing inclines his head in silent agreement.
The kiss is quick--affectionate, almost. Mu Qing is tempted to twist his fingers into the hem of Feng Xin's suit jacket and pull him back in, to make the most of the few hours they have left before they return to the reality of their breakup.
Xie Lian's cheeks are flushed a happy shade of pink. "You're cute when you get along. Ah, there goes Lang Qianqiu--I've been looking for him all night. Wait right here!"
As he swans off, Mu Qing sighs, stealing another glance towards Feng Xin. They'll have to break the news to Xie Lian eventually. Unless, like last time...
"Don't," Feng Xin warns under his breath as he reaches for his cocktail glass. "I told you it was final."

The Little Prince
Disclaimer: not a native speaker, still learning 🙏
Some followers or mutuals may know that I started reading the Thai version of The Little Prince and even though I haven't gotten that far into the book yet, I did skip ahead to find the two passages that came up in ep. 1 of Last Twilight. So naturally, I wanted to draw some comparisons with the dialogue in this lovely scene from ep. 8:
บางอย่างเนี่ย /baang yaang niia/
เราไม่ตองใช้ตามอง /rao mai dtaawng chai dtaa maawng/
ก็มองเห็นมันได้ /gaaw maawng hen man dai/
= For some things we don't need to use our eyes to look yet [we] can see them anyway.
ใช่ บางอย่างมันก็ต้องใช้หัวใจรับรู้ /chai. baang yaang man gaaw dtaawng chai hua jai rap ruu/
= Right. Some things need to be perceived by using the heart.
เหมือนความรู้สึกพี่ตอนเนี้ย /meuuan kwaam ruu seuk phi dtaawn niia/
LOVE he means love!! all-encompassing, indescribable l o v e! I was almost expecting one of them to express it in words but what we got instead expressed it perfectly in actions
I'm not sure where Day is reciting from in ep. 1 (or if they had to change it for copyright reasons that I'm unaware of??) but it's very slightly different from the book so let's look at both!
เจ้าชายน้อย /jao chaai naawy/, ch. 21, p. 125, the Fox:
= We can see clearly only with the heart. What is essential cannot be seen with the eyes.
Day in ep. 1:
= We can see everything clearly when we use [our] hearts. What is essential cannot be seen with the eyes.
Sidenote: While trying to find out if Day was reciting from a different translation, I happened upon this article from 2020 which included this lovely photo of one of many Braille translations! :)
Back to the editions at hand though!
My edition is from 2013 and translated by อำพรรณ โอตระกูล (Amphan Otrakul). Hers was the first Thai translation, originally published in 1969. There are uhh a lot of versions by now though.
Judging from what I can see of the cover in ep. 1, my assumption is that Day's version is a print of this 2003 one which says on the cover is still the Otrakul translation but this site credits as being translated by พงาพันธ์ุ โบบิเยร์ (Panga-Phan Bobier), originally in 1997. I know there are three well-known translations and I've checked the one by อริยา ไพฑูรย์ (Ariya Paitoon) (pdf version here) so I'm just gonna stick with the assumption that Day is quoting from the Bobier translation. 🤷♀️
And because I'm very highkey in love with this song-
ประตูวิเศษ (Better Days), written by Amp Achariya, specifically Jimmy's lines:
/aat mai hen, dtaae rap ruu duuay jai/ = might not see but perceive with the heart
/thee mai hen gaaw dai hen duuay jai/ = what isn't seen can be seen with the heart
/kham waa rak man gaaw chat nai jai - praw ter/ = 'Love' is clear in [my] heart - because of you.

(It's clawed hand reaches for you, one last time)
So, @bookfansworld, I know you said a missing eye but I couldn't help but think about Vecna's milky eye and the potential juicy uses in paralleling that with a possessed Mike. Also the fact Vecna looses a hand in dnd. Idk, idk. Just another a little parallel too, even though that ones a bit of a stretch.
But yeah I drew something that's kinda sorta, a lil bit inspired by the Kas Theory. What if, after being presumed dead; Mike was left behind. Bloodied, on deaths door. Yet Vecna stops his minions from continuing their feast. What if Vecna snared the opportunity laid right before him, practically resting on a silver platter? What if he possessed him, similarly to how Will was possessed in s2?
("No. You do not get to die. Not yet, Michael. I have use for you. I will keep you alive. You will be my puppet. With you, I will catch my prey. They would do anything for you.")
Imagine it. Imagine a possessed Mike appearing on the battlefield. A bloodied husk of himself. Standing amongst the dark forces of Vecna. Imagine the group being so happy to see their friend alive, only for their faces to fall. Confusion coloring their faces, as they realize Mike isn't being attacked by the demo-dogs or the demo-bats. Imagine their realization. The fear and shock crashing down on them as Mike begins to approach, but it's all wrong. He doesn't move like their Mike; and he is unresponsive to their calls, eyes dull and glassy; and they can't do anything. Not as he raises his arm, a bloody weapon gleaming in his hand.
They can't do anything. Because that's Mike. He's still in there somewhere. They can't hurt him.
And imagine, Mike struggling inside his own head to gain control back from Vecna; thrashing and writhing inside the confines of his own mind. Imagine that he is mid fight with Will. It's the final battle, and Will is attempting to hold Mike off while desperately trying not to hurt the boy he loves. Vecna is looming, taunting them in the background, letting Will be beaten down by his best friend, the love of his life. His heart. Imagine Will, in pain, bloodied because he's only defending himself and not retaliating; because he can't hurt mike, not even when the boy is trying to kill him. Imagine that it is Will, who eventually manages to gets though to Mike and give him just enough strength to shred through Vecna's spell; and when he finally does and it's Mike who turns around, his expression twisted into something like maddened rage. He lifts his one good arm,
(Don't you dare touch him.)
and he swings.

After doing a little bit of research (comparing the two different dvd boxes and playing with settings), it seems like the reason the better (extended) version of Muppet Christmas Carol isn't widely available compared to the lesser (theatrical cut) version is because it seems that the song cut is only available in full screen. There doesn't seem to be a wide-screen version of the extended cut available. So that's likely why the easiest to watch version is the theatrical cut, because Wide screen has become the default format.
And that's also likely why I didn't know there WAS a theatrical cut until after we lost and replaced the disk. The DVD we had was so old it only had full screen as an option, and the full screen version is the extended version of the movie.
Anyways, this is all just an educated guess. I didn't google the actual reason I just presume this based on what the boxes say, personal experience, and the fact that on the DVD that allows you to choose, full screen is the extended cut and wide screen is the theatrical cut.

Guess who’s back on his “Professor Inkling and Count Bleck are the same person” nonsense
I got. Very attached to the Swap Designs
This is now my favourite drawing of Count Bleck ever. All my others can go home this wins this wins so hard
:3
Shoutout to whatever Professor Inkling has going on here though. I gave him his curl and his ears back
I need you all to know that under the muzzle he’s basically just doing the :D face
I like to think that they were just both YANKED from their respective medias in just. The middle of the story.
Mario’s already past Chapter 3 and Team Bleck is having a meeting and they take their eyes off Bleck for ONE SECOND and they look back and it’s. Old Man Octopus.
Meanwhile elsewhere they’ve like just finished the events of Ring of Fire and when the Octopod reaches the crew instead of the Professor its some ancient blue boy

As a writer, I know how much work it takes to get a story to a point where you're actually happy with it. You keep moving things around, change lines here and there and add or cut others until it feels right.
Today it hit me that Thomas doesn't have that ability anymore. He can't write down his verses and look at them the next day to improve them. Since that made me really sad I reached for my baritone ukulele and started writing a song about it:
There once was a poet
Who could not write a rhyme
He had no pen or paper
Only his lonely mind
Till the end of time
He still composed his verses
Despite the laughs he got
They were his only comfort
In a world that always forgot
What he had lost
No one knew how much he mourned
No one knew what all their scorn
Did to his broken heart
This is what I've got so far, written in about an hour. Tomorrow, I can go back to it, expand it, change the lyrics and experiment with the melody. I can see it with fresh eyes and make it better.
Thomas will never be able to do that again, not without help.
He's forever stuck with the shitty first draft.
