thinking about the random throwaway comment murph made about how riz has been tutoring just because in my heart i think it’d be both true to character & very funny if riz was an absolutely horrendous tutor. you’re telling me the stressed out kid with 5 million extracurriculars is going to be fully mentally present for a tutoring session? no. he thinks he’s explaining something and to the person listening he truly sounds like a flat solace conspiracy theorist with how little sense he’s making. after a certain amount of time if the kid he’s tutoring doesn’t understand riz just redirects them to adaine because she sells test answers. he’s responsible for three different rage outbursts and he doesn’t know because the second the session is over he’s already out the door for like. mathletes or whatever.

It's interesting that Izzy is the one who sees Ed's attraction to Stede first. Yes, Izzy is the closest to Ed, and he pays a lot of attention to Ed because that's part of his job. But it's clear from his voiceover at the start of "Art of Fuckery," and what happens with his character subsequently, that he's watching Ed very carefully for signs that he's slipping out of his Blackbeard persona, and more broadly, out of the performative masculinity that Izzy believes is the mark of a real man.
Tumblr media
A lot has been said about Izzy's internalized homophobia, but it's a very complicated kind of homophobia - he doesn't fit the trope of the closeted gay man using homophobia to cover his sexuality. Izzy has no apparent problem with homosexuality - as Calico Jack says, it's more or less expected at sea. The form of his homophobia has more to do with gender presentation and sexual roles, not the concept of gay sex or attraction.
The two men on the Revenge he has the most immediate conflicts with are Lucius and Stede. To him, neither of them perform masculinity correctly, and both of them, in their own ways, refuse to participate in the masculine hierarchy he's steeped in.
Izzy's problem clicks for Lucius immediately, because Lucius is an out gay man who has undoubtedly met men like Izzy before. He's not ashamed of his sexuality or his presentation of it, and so he defies the hierarchy by explicitly refusing to participate.
Tumblr media
Stede is more complicated because he's not out at all. Izzy calls Stede a "ponce" and a "fop," but neither word would necessarily imply that Stede's gay; being a fop is not equivalent to sexuality (though in "Act of Grace," Izzy's emphasis makes it clear that "twat" is standing in for a much stronger word). It is Stede's presentation of masculinity, his effeminacy, that Izzy finds repellent. Stede's not a "real pirate" (read: a real man). The idea that Ed - the man's pirate and the pirate's man - would be seduced by him upends Izzy's worldview and is something he feels he must put a stop to.
At the start of the "Art of Fuckery," Izzy's realization that Stede has "seduced" Ed is immediately followed by the stabbing scene, which Izzy overhears. I'm still not clear if we're meant to think that Izzy believes they're actually having sex on the deck, but regardless, it confirms the "seduction" for him.
This is the one clear time that we see things filtered through Izzy's perspective, with the episode literally starting with his voiceover. He's horrified by what he hears on deck, and the obvious sexuality connected to it, and he immediately insists that Ed kill Stede.
Tumblr media
This is not a subtle show. The stabbing on deck is explicitly sexualized. Not only is Ed being "stabbed" by another man, he's being stabbed by an effeminate man. In Izzy's reading of the world, there are men who penetrate and men who are penetrated, men who dominate and men who are dominated, and those roles are aligned with masculine presentation. It would be fine for Ed to be stabbed by Calico Jack, a properly masculine man who understands the masculine hierarchy, but not by Stede.
Stede defies Izzy's categorizations by quite literally not understanding the role he's supposed to play in the first place. Stede's not humiliated by his shirt being cut off in "A Damned Man"; he says that he quite enjoyed it. Izzy's threats go right over his head in "A Gentleman Pirate" - he can't even remember Izzy's name. It doesn't occur to him to be scared or humiliated. He further upends Izzy's reading by treating Ed kindly. Ed can't bring himself to fulfill his role in the masculine hierarchy by killing (stabbing) Stede, and Stede sits down and offers him gentleness.
Tumblr media
Stede throws Izzy's concept of masculinity out of whack by being an effeminate man who penetrates, a fop who seduces a "real man," and whom Ed sees no shame in asking to stab him. He's too fluid for Izzy to get a hold of. He doesn't just not participate in the performance of masculinity that Izzy wants from him; he doesn't even know that there's a performance going on.
Later in the episode, it's Izzy who stabs Stede, pinning him to the mast and re-establishing the masculine hierarchy - Stede is the one to be penetrated by a "real pirate." Then Stede just...breaks his sword. He did it on purpose. Izzy is effectively emasculated, but Stede doesn't even know it. He just knows that he "did it right."
Tumblr media
What has thrown Izzy off is Stede's lack of participation in the masculine hierarchy. He doesn't know the rules that Izzy has been controlled by, and so he's not "doing it right." Being penetrated isn't inherently shameful. Penetrating isn't inherently about dominating or gaining power over. Stede's face when he stabs Ed is simply one of concern, because he's hurt him. He's not getting a sexual thrill out of harming Ed, and penetration doesn't equal power for him. Stede throws everything Izzy thinks he knows about masculinity overboard simply by existing.
(I think I've got more to say about how this all shifts in Season 2, and why that's so important to Izzy's arc, but I done wrote enough for now.)

playing the worlds most dangerous game: blowing raspberries onto satans belly when he isnt paying attention
Oh anon, you would certainly be taking your life in your hands with such a thing. I highly suspect Satan would choose to retaliate against such an assault!
You might find yourself fending him off, but good luck. Satan is a demon, he's probably a lot stronger than you. I can see him just being like oh you wanna play this game huh?
Before you know it, you're on your back being raspberried back lol.
Do I think this could devolve into further shenanigans? Yes absolutely. If you were anybody else, Satan would be in demon form already. But because it's you, he's just flustered and wants to get you back.
So it'd be pretty easy to get him riled up even more. You get to decide if you tease him mercilessly or if you give in and kiss him. Because I think the second you do that, you're going to end up in nsfw territory...

I feel so blessed that I get to watch the Percy Jackson and the Olympians story all over again, because the first time I was introduced to the story, I was the same age as the characters, and I didn't think there was anything in this world that was more important than the kind of friends who will stand by you through it all. And now I'm older, and quite a few things have changed, and the world is different, and I still think there is nothing more important in this world than the kind of person who will stand by you through it all. Whether it be your biological family, the friends who become your family, or a mix of both.
In a children's book, they managed to get the message through, that things will get better. Your world can seem to be over, forced to leave your home, your only family is taken away from you, everything moving forward is scary and dangerous, and somehow life can take that and turn it into an experience that catapults you into a better life, you know more, you have people that love you unconditionally who would take a dagger for you, you gain skills that will help you survive moving forward, you learn your purpose, until suddenly you're not just surviving, you're living.
Getting to watch a new version of this show is so exciting to me, because just like my world is different now, the Percy Jackson world is a little different, a few things have changed, but not the important stuff. And it's moments like this, where something comes full circle that I really feel like everything is going to be okay. Because yeah, the world is really scary and overwhelming and I have no idea what I'm doing; but friendship and love and family are still being celebrated the way they were when I was younger and less scared. And good friends are still the most important thing in the world. And love is still the most powerful thing in the universe. So, despite everything, I think we're going to be okay. And if it takes a remake of the Percy Jackson movies to remind me of that it's okay, because sometimes it's hard to remember.

one of my fondest hc is that i truly truly believe that the hatfords are either scottish or northern english. and a much smaller gang than the moriyamas/wesninskis in general. it just makes more sense to me.
i like to think that the hatfords are more working class, not in wealth but culturally, and that mary wanted more than that. she grew up wanting to be amongst higher society, to be rich and boast about it too. and when she got the opportunity to leave with a man who offered that lifestyle, the glamour and shimmer and appeal of old dirty money, she jumped at it. she left her family behind, thinking she could do better than them. and she told them that too. she thought she’d be more than she was with her family, be an equal to nathan in his business and at home.
and she was, until she got pregnant. and then suddenly she was a mother, instead of a person. the one who caused a problem by getting pregnant. now nathan had something he had to deal with, to get rid of so he could continue his work with the moryiamas. the cruelty she’d been exempt from till this point was suddenly turned on her and her son. Neil became the only thing she had. and she had to risk everything for him.
and once it all went south, the shame and the guilt, and the belief that the hatfords couldnt deal with problems this big, ate away at her until she was on an island of two. her and neil. and while she loved him, she really loved him, neil had torn her away from the life she had made for herself. from the position she deserved to have, among the prestige and wealth. so she resented him.
what she didn’t know, was that for her, her family would’ve made themselves bigger. for neil, they increased their base and standings in uk and made themselves important to the moriyamas. they extended business overseas. they would’ve fought for her had she asked.

I need people in the Critical Role fandom to understand something, and I’ll try to make this as non-ranty as possible.
If Laudna and Imogen don’t end up in a romantic relationship, don’t treat it as queerbaiting and don’t get upset and call it a “loss of queer representation”.
I need you all to understand that wlw and mlm relationships are not the only kind of queer representation.
I need you all to understand that by saying “omg Laudna’s just in denial” and “omg Marisha don’t ‘no homo’ this” you are actively being harmful to the aspec community and, to put it simply, being plain fucking annoying.
You can ship them, 100%! I do not care what or who people ship in their own time and in their own spaces, but as soon as you start getting upset that the ship didn’t happen? And making it everyone else’s problem? That’s when it’s fucked up.
If they do end up together by the end of this, great. No harm done. But if they don’t? Great! Also no harm done!
I love this fandom so much, but god, it can be so toxic to anyone who doesn’t like shipping, and this doesn’t only apply to aspec people.
Anyways, this post is literally just a PSA to everyone in fandom to make this community even better than it already is.

ok all of u have it wrong
meredith is griffith, clearly the main character with past family trauma tied to the hospital
izzie is jules, kind but somewhat irrelevant and shows potential
cristina is blue, brutal and blunt and willing to do anything to get ahead of the surgical game
alex is yasuda, endearingly stupid and doesn't know when to shut up
george is lucas, puppy energy that's kind of clueless and genuinely has no idea what to do but wants to learn

Crying in the club that the world you've created here doesn't actually exist. My ugly, terminally unloveable self might have actually been able to find a partner then
I dunno what to tell you. For as much as I'm constantly creating fiction about love and sex, I'm pretty cold to most people around me and stopped having "relationship drives" in early middle school. It's kind of ridiculous to think about how desperate people are these days.
Self-deprecation will make you less attractive to most people. It takes work to be unapologetically yourself, but it's worth it.

there are people actively dying of diseases we don't understand and yet people have the gall to accuse someone with disabling chronic conditions of faking it because there isn't a blood test to prove it
this is the new "you're sick because you Angered God" of the modern age. It's yet another form of copium for people who don't want to stare into the ugly abyss and admit that bad shit can happen to anyone and we are not in control and never have been

Nimona Movie and Book Spoilers-
Nimona the movie, being about how despite the world, all it takes is a single person to notice you.
Ballister changes his view on Nimona, and sees her for who she is.
When Nimona is facing against the statue of Gloreth, all it takes is a single person- Ballister.
"I see you, Nimona. And you're not alone."
Nimona the webcomic, being about the tragedies of life. How in a world of pain and suffering, there is joy. But not for everyone.
Blackheart cares for Nimona, but he also wants to help people.
Nimona, so engriefed in pain, takes his actions as a betrayal. His actions couldn't undo her trauma.
"You can't save everybody, you know."
"I know, and some day I may accept that. But right now, all I feel is that I killed me friend."
Blackheart couldn't save both the kingdom and his friend. His door is always open to her, but Nimona wasn't ready.
The joy and the tragedies of both these stories are so special and important. Life is full of both.
Sometimes, all it takes is a single person to change a world.
But sometimes, that's not enough. And that's okay, too.

I am still procrastinating so I was iddly thinking about more fic ideas and just generally toy Jimmy stuff.
I did the horror-heavy angst toy/porcelain body fic, which I am very proud of, but I wanted something different. Totally different. THE OPPOSITE in fact. Which is why, I present you : MUPPET JIMMY !
He’s a cloth puppet. Like, it’s super obvious. Don’t ask me how he rides a horse, or just moves without people seeing under his “skin” at the bottom. Maybe he’s wearing a skirt ? He’d rock a skirt let’s be honest.
When he gets splashed with the potion of revealing the cloth disappear and the other Emperors are faced with a giant hand. A very embarassed and indignant hand.
(If I had the time to make art for this I would, bc damn is this concept ridiculous but fun.)
