Let's Talk About: Mentopolis and Case Closed
Tumblr media
This is arguably the best Dimension 20 finale of 2023… so far. Sure, Dungeons and Drag Queens gave us one heck of an emotional ending that was elevated by Jujubee's personal stakes in the story. The Ravening War was a fun romp through time that delivered cinematic-quality twists, plot developments, and tension-filled moments in the finale. And Neverafter's finale was more scary serious and needed a lot of processing.
Mentopolis though… With the mix of catharsis and a table of players that really focused their talents on the fun of role-playing… This finale was just so enjoyable. It gave me everything I didn't even know I wanted.
And the whole episode was truly bonkers. The fight, the player decisions… Danielle/Anastasia Tension glugging down some room-temperature vodka after a wild chase, Hank/The Fix setting the mood with some genre-appropriate steam, and Freddie/Dan Fucks making the ultimate in-character choice of distracting the enemy with his diamond-hard balls.
Trapp rolled the most cursed Nat 1 from Dimension 20 history--and still survived! Siobhan found the best coda for the whole adventure.
And Alex… Alex has done something no other Dimension 20 player has ever done for me: they made me cry for four episodes straight. Maybe five. I'll have to go back to what I said in previous talk-abouts. But Alex was very masterful with how they delivered their emotional gut-punches. As well as the physical ones Conrad delivered.
Hank didn't want to get left behind either. His final scene with the reunion? Magnificent. And the "did you know" speech in the fight that wasn't meant to be menacing but still managed to scare the shit out of everyone (including myself who is watching months and months after they finished wrapping)? Inspiring.
I need to see Alex, Hank, and Freddie in future Dimension 20 seasons. I would love for them to be together, but I would love it even more if we see them interact with other Dimension 20 cast members and/or newcomers. I want Hank to come back in a season with Murph and Emily. I want Alex on a season with Aabria as the game master, and maybe with Oscar Montoya as a fellow player. And Freddie… Freddie, I feel, could fit in with any table composition. I want to see his chaos with Zac and Lou's though. Or Zac and Ally's.
And I want Danielle partnering with Siobhan again. Maybe in another Good Society-run season by Aabria. Maybe in a different system run by Jasmine Bhullar. I feel like we only got the tip of the possible shenanigans we could've gotten from the two… Thinking about it now, what if Murph guest DMs a side quest season with Danielle, Siobhan, and Emily?! The possible combinations are endless.
While I fantasize about possible casts for future seasons of Dimension 20, I leave you with a few gems I will treasure from the finale of Mentopolis:
"The greatest pleasure is punching your boss."
"Mr. Fix? Duck!"
And "57. My favorite number."
See y'all next time. In the stars. In the soup. In the dome.

The Rise of Dimension 20: The Changing Face of Roleplay
I remember when I first heard about Dimension 20 in 2019. I had subscribed to Dropout to watch Um, Actually and I saw D20 being pushed on the platform. I sat down and watched the first episode, then the second. In two days I had finished the first season.
I had never seen anything like it. I had tried NADDPOD and CR and bounced off both (I'd eventually fall head over heels for the former, and gain a solid respect for the latter), but I fell in love with the Bad Kids, the Intrepid Heroes, the world of Elmville, and the style of Brennan Lee Mulligan.
Later, I would learn that the first season of Fantasy High was seen by most in the community as a sort of novelty, the last death-rattle of a dying company. It was cool and new, sure, but it was also a flash in the pan.
Escape From the Bloodkeep proved the naysayers wrong. It proved that Brennan was as much the source of the fun as the Intrepid Heroes, and it showed us something that set him apart from the pack - Brennan was constantly pushing himself to be better. Out of the starting gate, he proved a technical proficiency on par with Matt Mercer, the reigning king, but for Brennan, that wasn't enough. He wasn't facing off with Matt, he was facing off with himself, and he needed to be better.
The Unsleeping City continued this trend. It was another setting the DND actual play community wasn't used to - the real world. The characters were fresh, new, more nuanced than the children they played in Fantasy High. They were up to the challenge, with the same drive as Brennan. Brennan and Ally redefined how the Wild Magic Sorcerer was played, Lou Wilson brought an abandoned Unearthed Arcana to the forefront, and the pair played, perhaps, their best roles to date.
Tiny Heist showed that Brennan could bend 5e to be something it wasn't meant to be - a heist simulator.
Then came A Crown of Candy. Some hold this season to be Brennan's magnum opus and the best performances the Intrepid Heroes have ever given. The combat was quick, dirty, tactical, the characters textured and nuanced. Our heroes had to get out of impossible situations, both in roleplay and combat. Death was a very real possibility. And this season was what sealed Brennan as a real rival for Matt, and was when "I only have Dropout for D20" stopped being a joke and started being a reality. Brennan had hit his stride.
The sidequests and seasons two from this point don't really prove my point, but they're good. Brennan didn't do a couple of them, though.
Then we get to Starstruck. Set in a world his mother had created, it obviously meant a lot to Brennan, and so he strived to outdo everything he'd done up to this point. It was funnier, more moving, the combat more tactical than anything he'd done before. He included space combat, and the cast once again rose to the occasion, portraying those cast out and cast aside by the corporatocracy that was the Starstruck universe, forming a touching bond. It was as if he had peaked.
And then came Neverafter, and with that, Brennan became king. It was horrific, scary, brutal. Combat wasn't fun or interesting, it was intense and nail-biting. The party dropped in their first combat encounter. Children were brutally murdered. They were up against eldritch horrors in perverse retellings of fairy tales. The humor was there, sure, but it was twisted, dark, more about relieving stress than being funny. And again, the cast excelled.
And all because Brennan wasn't trying to outdo Matt or Griffin or Brian, but himself. Each season, he wanted to be better than he had ever been before, pushing his technical abilities, his storytelling abilities, to the max. And the world of actual play shows improved as well. Matt stepped up his game, as did the other big dogs. Brennan redefined the game.
Or I could just be a massive fanboy who's reading way too far into things. Either/or.

[before you scroll please note i am in desperate need of opinions so at the very least vote randomly if you do]
okay i don’t know how big the dimension 20 fandom is on here but i just gained access to a dropout tv account (thanks gully) and am trying to get through every dimension 20 show there is. i already watched season 1 of Fantasy High + Escape From The Bloodkeep and have just finished a Court of Fey and Flowers and have no idea if i should just start season 2 of fantasy high immediately or try out another different series because as much as i love it i have spent so much time with just fantasy high over the years.
like with all good decisions im making others choose for me, please vote on whichever one you think i should try next and if you don’t know what they are but have found this poll just pick whichever name you want. you make the rules i just play by them!! tyyy
the two fantasy high spinoffs are being left until after fantasy high. also ravening war is obviously gonna happen after acoc so thats no on there either. literally just want to know where the fuck to go from here cause everything looks amazing.
also if im missing one somehow. whoops. just vote with whats here idk
UPDATE: oh my god holy shit tysm everyone?? was NOT expecting ti get over 500 votes but very happy to not only get input on this but also know that the d20 fandom is alive and thriving!!
im probably going to watch the unsleeping city, fantasy high s2, and then the other intrepid hero campaigns (and i will be watch m&m + mentopolis during a strastruck odyssey), but now im more excited to watch all of them just by hearing everyone’s opinions (except shriek week apparently) (a acoc but only because it seems amazing but i WILL cry)
ty again for the input, appreciate it sm <3

what has your journey been with d20? what was your first campaign, which characters were the first to stick to you? what campaigns have you not seen but want to? how’d you find out about d20? what draws you to a scene or character, that makes you wanna draw them? do you read and/or write fanfiction? you’re literally my favorite artist in the fandom and it almost feels like you came out of nowhere in the best way. Feel free to answer as many or few questions as you’d like
i did start d20 because of brennan in exu: calamity (that campaign truly wrecked me btw)
so i think... the campaign i actually watched for the first time was either escape from bloodkeep or misfits & magic! jammer and evan have my entire heart, and bloodkeep was an absolute blast start to finish. so it's such a joy to see trapp and danielle in mentopolis, my worlds are colliding!
then the first season i live-watched was a court of fey & flowers (aabria i love youuuu) i had a ton of ideas simmering then, but neverafter came along and just. blasted all those plans by taking over me entirely---and here we are.
i really really really want to finish a starstruck odyssey. ooh and also want to get a start on unsleeping city! i need to know more about kugrash
i love emotional scenes! real sad ones! i also have a tendency to take not-sad moments and make them extra sad (as many during neverafter pointed out. oops.) as for characters, i used to think i had a type but neverafter sort of made me doubt everything.
i do read fanfiction! i don't write much, unless you count comic texts as writing? the post-neverafter-ending comics were basically my fix-it fic.
i suppose i did come out of nowhere (or at least, in the middle of one d20 campaign and then sort of disappeared 😂) thank you for these fun questions! it's nice to be able to reflect on where i'm at.

Opinions under the cut. May include spoilers from any of the shows.
Dimension 20 Burrow's End: I didn't manage to finish it before Fantasy High Junior Year started so it's kind of on the back burner for D20 shows. I really enjoy it though. I like that all the PCs are family and that makes for interesting dynamics. It's more scary than Neverafter imo just because taking something normal like nature and messing with it is more creepy. Aabriya does a great job as DM obviously.
Dimension 20 Fantasy High Junior Year: Fantasy High got me into Dimension 20 so I'm very excited for this one. It's going to be interesting to see the Bad Kids' personal struggles and how they deal with them. Episode 2 made me feel bad for what they're going through.
Spy x Family: Spy x Family is always a nice chill show. Season 2 was very good and I liked seeing Yor in action.
Kekkai Sensen/Blood Blockade Battlefront: Trying to find the motivation to continue watching this. I just feel like it isn't going anywhere with the plot or the characters and that's a shame because the concept of Hellsalem's Lot and Libra's members are interesting. They just introduced the threat of vampires so maybe that will pick up and I need to watch a little more, but I'm a little bored.
The Apothecary Diaries: This is what I put Kekkai Sensen on pause for. A little hesitant because most of what I'd seen of it was romance and usually romance only really intrigues me if it's balanced with something else. The palace setting and the different situations that Maomao applies to her apothecary knowledge to are the perfect balance. The romance mostly takes a backseat to it actually. I like Maomao a lot as the protagonist. She's smart and has a realistic take on a lot of things, especially since she's lower class. I enjoy watching her figure things out.
Hazbin Hotel: I watched the pilot last year and got really invested in Hazbin Hotel which is lucky because some people have been waiting much longer to get more of the show. I watched all four episodes the day they were released and liked them a lot. A lot more songs than I thought there would be but I liked most of them. Favorites go to Respectless, Poison, and Stayed Gone. I think episode four was the best because it had the best balance of overlord plot with hotel shenanigans. It think it handled Angel Dust's situation well too. It also made me like Husker a lot more than I thought I would. The voice actors did a great job and the animation was really good.
I do believe you still need to watch the pilot before the stuff on Amazon though. It does a better job of introducing the world, characters, and hotel plot where the new episodes then pick up. I'm not sure if that's what the creators want, but it might be confusing for newcomers to the show if they don't know about the pilot. Very excited to see more Hazbin Hotel though.

Are you still doing d20 hot takes? These are admittedly lukewarm (some salsa that everyone at the table can enjoy).
1) I watch for the character arcs/development, not the story, so I really enjoyed Neverafter.
2) Both campaigns set in Calorum have been really hard to get into, even though they’re really good. But I also don’t like GoT so maybe that’s on me.
3) Hard agree with everyone who said they don’t really want sequel campaigns. I would, however, be down for the odd one shot a la holiday MisMag or Boys’ Night.
4) Coffin Run is so slept on, it’s not even funny. Jasmine’s props, the letters, the Dracula wings lighting, gorgeous sets & minis, incredible RP all around, great bits, all the campy horror movie references… Truly one of my faves.
5) I really wanna see Aabria or another guest DM do a full length/over 10 eps season. I feel like Aabria’s DM style would do well with a few more eps so she can explore more. And it would just be nice to hang out with a guest DM a bit more.
6) Confession: Never finished UC2 or Pirates =< UC2 was hard to pick up with less likeable characters (to me) + feeling like Chap 1 wrapped up so nicely + I’m bad with interpersonal conflict. And then I never got past the start of ep 1 of Pirates cause bad British accents is my pet peeve and B Dave’s character was first introduced 😭
oh i'm ALWAYS here for d20 hot takes. (god i love sam says that was so fucking funny, especially because what lou then gave was the most mild gossip i've ever heard)
1- completely valid. and to a large extent, i do too- i did ultimately enjoy the season, primarily because i love the characters so much.
2- skill issue. calorum campaigns slay absolute penis. (for real though totally fair, they're not for everyone. but i do think it's interesting in conjunction with watching for character arcs/development, bc i think acoc in particular is one of the best with that)
3- ooh yes one-shots are a different thing entirely, always a fun time.
4- coffin run FUCKS. my favorite non-intrepid heroes campaign, and it's only acofaf that comes sort of close. everyone needs to watch it, and if they've already watched it and don't appreciate it, they should try again. i could talk forever about it and how great it is.
5- yes. a million times yes please give us 20 episodes with aabria gming i'm begging. and in general yeah i'd love to see a guest dm have more time and space to flex. (except mercer please no more mercer in the dome)
6- i feel you. it took me a long time to get through tuc 2, this is a cody walsh hate account (half joking). and it took 3 attempts to get through pirates as well. honestly what got me through it was myrtle, cheese, and the little bit of garthy that we got. i found the other characters kinda annoying, big same on that accent, bob's was grating, too.

Is someone were to start watching dimention 20 . What series(?) would you reccomend n where ?
omg omg okay okay so i'd say there are so many different routes you can take depending on what genre you like!! this is truly so hard omg. i can start off by saying most seasons are on a subscription service called dropout which is the only subscription service i will be paying for in my life (unless you're counting a patreon as a subscription service), but they also have a youtube where they've released a couple full seasons.
i'm putting Escape From The Bloodkeep at the top because a) Villainous Found Family, b) free on youtube, and c) there's an NPC named J'er'em'ih. It's a Lord of the Rings knockoff from the perspective of the villains who are dorks and also queer. Found family to the max and so many bits.
i will be crunching this post because it is LONG! genres galore!
if you want Drama: A Crown of Candy is a Game of Thrones/Candy Land mashup. The Ravening War is the prequel. Both of them have a nonzero chance of making you cry and Do have permanent deaths. A Court of Fey and Flowers is the other drama but it's. queer Bridgerton with fairies. no angst many flowers and there's LETTER WRITING and a RUMOR PHASE
Coming Of Age: Fantasy High Freshman Year, Sophomore Year, Junior Year, and The Seven. While I think t7 is higher in quality than Freshman Year, you do need FY for context. either way, both feel as realistic as an adventuring school can be to an actual coming of age story.
Misfits and Magic is also a Coming of Age and an homage and just. a fabulous piece in general which I think is a GREAT introduction (if you have dropout)! it's a group of people going "how much can we poke fun at jk rowlings books bc we grew up on those but we Don't Like Her and actually her system is trash?" it's a smaller cast using the kids on brooms system, and, once again, it's queer and coming of age and found family. there's a wet cat of a man if that's what you need in your life.
Horror Seasons: Neverafter and Burrow's End are the two Overtly Horror seasons and they both pull it off very well. Neverafter is found family. Burrow's End is a literal family (of stoats) (not anthropomorphized, just plain stoats). they're Good Horror.
The Unsleeping City (Part I) is also very good. only filmed media that's made me cry. i can't speak to part ii specifically because i did not vibe with the virtual filming style. i got dropout because of Pirates of Leviathan, but i had the context of s1 and s2 of fantasy high so. idk man. is this coherent?
romance: Shriek Week and A Court of Fey and Flowers. Monster dating sim and Fairy Bridgerton. i'm not a dating sim person so i couldn't really do shriek week but ACOFAF. Man. That season.
Mystery: Mentopolis. I cannot tell you how much I loved Mentopolis. such a good season. Hank Green is there. Mike Trapp (creator of J'er'em'ih) is there. It's truly just tropes tropes tropes. everything is a pun.
Mentopolis also fits under action, which is what I would put Coffin Run under as well. Coffin Run my beloved. 2 vampires a wannabe-vampire and a jewish-old-man-who-misses-his-wife walk into dracula's castle and go. "hey we're your favorites, right?"
i'm so sorry. i hope this helped. i really love this show man. there's very few seasons i couldn't finish and 20 seasons out right now (the 21st is coming out every wednesday starting last week) and while there are MORE seasons like A Starstruck Odyssey (scifi comedy, 10/10 no notes) this is a long post to say. TLDR: you gotta know what style of show you like. my friend and i both watch it but she REFUSES to watch fantasy high and i can't stomach A Crown of Candy but we still both watch other seasons.

In lieu of a travel journal
2am my-time, monday, july 24, 2023
Awake and giddy and trying to calm down after completing what I think may accidentally actually be a decent conference paper, a few short hours before I need to present it—some thoughts on the things that have kept me entertained and sane while on necessary breaks from writing! writing this on my phone so there’s no read-more, apologies.
reading
having a very good time alternating between after Sappho, selby wynn schwartz, and an angela carter short story collection called the bloody chamber. both very ~feminist~ but in ways that are subtly distinct—you can tell which came out in 2021 and which did not—but both so interesting. I think I may DNF this other unnamed spy-urban fantasy, unfortunately, which sucks because the premise was good, the execution is just very grating. assorted other libby holds include italo calvino’s the baron in the trees, ty @morrak and carmen maria machado’s in the dream house.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
listening
yws gwynedd and the resulting welsh pop / rock mix on 24-hour lockdown repeat. it’s been extremely good to me, high energy, low engagement, except I’m also getting better at listening comprehension slowly but surely, there’s no downside. Stuck in my head currently, perpetually:
watching
the first episode of d20’s starstruck odyssey, which despite all the potential for getting bogged down in new mechanics and bad stats and dysfunctional team dynamics was really lovely? It is filling the sweet spot right between being in the mood for fantasy high and being in the mood for Neverafter, and plus I like! just getting to hear them play! I also watched the first few minutes of disn*y’s strange world on this airbnb’s d+ account, and will hopefully be able to go back—I was looking for something I could have on in the background and ended up getting interested, so, task failed successfully! I also watched, and slept through, amsterdam (2022) on a plane recently.
Tumblr media
playing
fallow week. shoutout to the game I tried with friends a few weeks ago and forgot to mention, genesis noir, which was so gloriously atmospheric and moody and interesting, right up until it was slightly too buggy and/or unintuitive to get past the first fifteen minutes or so. though that could have been the fault of the internet connection, which had been slow that whole night and did crash immediately thereafter. we laughed ourselves to absolute fucking tears over gangbeasts again, afterwards. but I’m still thinking about the celestial noir vibes and hope to get back to this one soon.
Tumblr media
making
fallow week! making plans and achieving them, making memories and taking pictures, making virtual friendships into realities. making more homecooked meals, hopefully, now that I have real kitchen access! making some professional connections??
working on
the last week has been all about either working on said paper, or getting a mental refresh by getting as far from it as possible. it’s been hard to get back into work mode after some of these full days off, but also, I did budget my time and I *did* put enough in, early and often, that by the time the eleventh hour came around it was possible to actually finish. i don’t think i could have gotten to this version, which i’m pleased with, with any less effort—but spending all day thurs at the library, working in the morning or an hour before bed, or between lunch and dinner tonight—and a lot of time the week prior—it all added up. it all contributed something. this is my memo to myself: the long boring slog leading up to the exhilarating last minute is just as necessary. it helped that I have other (dissertation-based) uses for every idea and sentence and quote I had to cut tonight, and I still think this paper is stronger without them.

What season of Dimension 20 should a noob start with I want to understand what the FUCK you're talking about
oooooooo yes, welcome, come on in, were all fucking weird here!
get ready to have Extreme Feelings about one (1) loud, white man
but also, you can kinda start wherever you want? i haven't even watch every single season, anyway. here's the seasons, out of airing order, probably
fantasy high - the original, the og. teens in fantasy high school, having hijinks and saving the world. honestly, if there's like an established place to start, this is it. there's a second season, and a couple of live shows that are so fucking fun. griffin mcelroy's live ep is fucking WILD, i love ficus
pirates of leviathan - fantasy high adjacent, post fh season 2. i didn't actually finish this one. i dont remember why. i dont super have a strong attachment to fh season 2, so the setting for this one just didn't interest me, but it's pirates having hijinks on a floating pirate city
unsleeping city 1 & 2 - urban fantasy weirdness, urban fantasy fun times. the magical world that lives beneath and alongside the new york we all know. like fables, maybe, but more fantasy archetypes than folklore. really fun, really enjoyable, i have no memory of season two but i know i watched it
the seven - another fh spinoff, but a little more tied into the first season. a fantasy party of all the people they spent season one trying to save. it is SO FUCKING FUNNY, and SO FUCKING GAMEPLAY CRUNCHY, and I CRIED SO FUCKING HARD. need some emotional healing? exquisite. i miiiight suggest watching fh first, just to understand who they are, but also you don't *need* to
tiny heist - borrowers and fairies and thug bugs and living toys, trying to run a heist. so goddamn fun. highly, highly recommend. i love a fuckin heist. its the mcelroy family season, so if you like them you can look forward to that. just mcelroy is just. he's fucking batshit.
a crown of candy - game of thrones ass campaign, but the characters and kingdoms are all based on the different food groups. for real and honest, this season didn't hit me and i didn't finish it. but i do enjoy compilations of it on youtube
the ravening war - crown of candy spin off. i also didn't watch this at all, but it has cr's matt mercer as the guest gm, and im sure he's a great guy and all, but i just don't vibe with his dm style. deffo the least amount of levity of all the seasons, i think
mice & murder - a sherlock holmes, agatha christie ass murder mystery where everyone is in the house trying to solve the murder. also everyone is woodland creatures. another highly recommend if you're into murder mysteries like that
escape from the bloodkeep - what if lotr was told from the baddies pov. it's so stupid, so silly, so much fun. highly recommend
shriek week - monsters on their final week of college. despite my love of guest gm, gabe hicks, this season just Did Not Hit Me. not even ify nwadiwe could hold me
misfits and magic - hogwarts ass magic school for little wizards, but without the transphobia and racism. need some kids upsetting an unjust society based on classism? this for you. so, so good! guest gm aabria iyengar, she fucking knocks it out of the park. there's also a christmas episodes and a live show with a different cast
a starstruck odyssey - did you know that brennan lee mulligans mom elaine wrote the comic starstruck? this season is based on the comic and its very fucking fun! scifi shenanigans out the ass
neverafter - horror themed season, about macabre fairytale characters and the enduring nature of stories. it took me a bit to get into this season, but it's so good! you gotta like horror, tho. that's important to remember. it's a dark season
coffin run - draculas followers try to get an injured dracula back to the castle before his enemies catch up. sooooooo so so fucking funny, one of my favorite seasons. guest gm jasmine bhullar kills it. absolutely unfuckinghinged season
a court of fey and flowers - EASILY my favorite, second favorite season. aabria is back, the fey are having a party, someone is trying to do something terrible, they need to navigate jane austen era ass court politics to figure it out. so, so fucking stupid and fun
dungeons & drag queens - i havent finished this season, cuz i got Depressed As Shit earlier this year and just couldn't, but im about to jump back in. honestly, the plot doesn't matter, it's monet x change, alaska thunderfuck, jujubee and bob the drag queen. do you need to know anything else? no, you don't
mentopolis - the current season. a good place to start it you don't want to binge anything, as only one episode is out. it's a noir detective mystery taking place within the brain of a scientist and is already climbing the ranks of my favorite seasons
godspeed, you little nerd. go forth and have fun

what’s ur d20 campaign rankings as of rn !
okay i wrote this in the break room so it's not legally binding and is subject to change but i THINK my ranking (with miniature explanations) is this:
1. a crown of candy - need i say more? truly iconic. truly tragic. everything i look for in dnd. haunts me to this day
2. fantasy high - it's so much fun. it's the og. it's the reason for my url. it introduced ayda aguefort to the world. really that's all that needs to be said
3. the seven - i fucking LOVED the seven so so so much. maybe my favourite crew of PCs in all the seasons ever
4. coffin run - coffin run doesn't get a lot of love but i am suchhhh a halloween vibes bitch it was truly impeccable. i LOVED jasmine as the dm and everyone's characters
5. mice and murder - i also love whodunnits. this dynamic of players was also hilarious and it being most peoples first time playing like made it even better
6. the unsleeping city - had a lot of cool arcs had a lot of cool characters weirdly i was just not very compelled by it? but undoubtedly hilarious and had really cool battles

Nine People You Want To Know Better
I was tagged more than once in this!!! Thank you to @/saintedseraph @/artbyeloquent @/bardictales and @/writingpotato07 (listen, you left an open tag and I just wanted to throw you on here because you're a really good friend and I think this is fun)
—three ships.
oooo having to pick just 3 is hard. Let's go Soukoku (Chuuya x Dazai, Bungou Stray Dogs), DabiHawks (MHA, though I don't watch it), and ThanZag (Hades Game). Honorable mention to Hunter x Therapy, though. Boy needs it. (Owl House)
—first ever ship.
now, if you know me, you know that I have the memory of a fucking goldfish. I don't remember what I had for lunch yesterday (like I am legitimately - RAMEN) let alone what I liked eons ago. If I had to think of the first ship that I can remember, though, I think it was Sarumi (Fushimi Saruhiko/Yata Misaki, K: Return of Kings). I actually have Yata tattooed on my arm lol, he's the one who helped me come to terms with my gender.
—last song i listened to.
If we count the background music that I listen to while doing schoolwork, then Hot Milk by Snail's House. If we're just counting regular music, then DAYWALKER! by MGK and CORPSE. or maybe it was In My Room by ICP??? i don't remember lol
—last movie i watched.
I watch movies??? jk, i think it was oh god i'm actually blanking uhhhh i think the last movie i attempted to watch was the Weird Al Yankovich one, but I couldn't finish it.
—currently reading.
Angels Before Man by Rafael Nicolás. It is really good! I'm currently on my second read-through of it because I want to really give it the love and attention it deserves after I ran through it in two days the first time!
—currently watching.
Dimension 20's NeverAfter. Locke and I are watching it together! (though I may or may not have watched through the episodes as they released so I know what's going on beforehand)
—currently consuming.
Hot Chocolate. Someone said I'm not allowed to drink Monster anymore so I gotta find pleasure in life elsewhere I guess
—currently craving.
Monster. I really shouldn't have mentioned it. oops
—tagging.
@/crypticcodexcreations @/smol-feralgremlin @/ghost-town-story @/inkspellangel @/isherwoodj @/lockejhaven and @/authoralexharvey (soft tag, of course. I'm not sure who all has already done this.)

How do you deal with writer’s block?
The only thing I've found to work against writers block is to just sort of wait it out. If your brain doesn't have words, it doesn't have words, and trying to force it just makes it worse.
There's tricks, of course, to trying to get past it quicker. If it's a short bout, stuck on just a scene, the usual advice is to go back about ten lines because that's where your problem is (this is usually correct). If that's not it, you can try changing the weather, the location, what the characters are doing while they talk - something to shake it up, add just enough movement to give you something more to work with and flowing again.
For longer bouts, when there just aren't any words, I give myself permission to not write, do other things. Read, watch TV, play video games. Give myself permission to think about other things rather than the story I'm stuck on. I think a big part of writers block is being a little burned out on the material and having worked up too much pressure to have to work on it. We don't want to disappoint our readers with a hiatus but we also don't want to give them something that's rushed - they understand. They'll be find if they have to wait a bit.
The biggest trick for getting past writers block is giving yourself permission to write other things. The only way out of writers block is through - you do need to get words flowing again. The longer the block has gone, the harder it is to unblock because you've built up pressure about *not* having words. You have to do your best to remove that pressure. The words aren't happening on your main project, but they might be flowing on other things. So, if you have ideas or thoughts for something else, write them down. They don't have to be anything you're going to share, they don't have to be related to your main fandom/project. They don't have to be good. There is no pressure for them to be anything, they're just For You. If you end up liking them and want to polish them up later to share, that's a separate thing. The point is just to get words onto the page again. Remind yourself what you like about that, how it's fun.
There's a reason I've got like 30 WIPs in my writing file, of varying lengths and varying "seriousness" of things I want to come back to and finish/share. Most of them are about Five, some are about Rob and Sarah. Some now are D20's Neverafter, some are Malevolent, some are about my DnD character. The whole point of this hobby is to have fun - if you've got writers block, you aren't having fun (because you can't do the thing you want to). So find a little nothing to have fun with, maybe a few little nothings, with no pressure to polish or finish or share, and I find that helps unstick the words that I need to finish and share that project I got stuck on to begin with.

Finished neverafter and honestly the whole series was like a 9.5/10 from me I just hope that any other seasons focus on the multidimensional aspect cuz I think that was really cool and could have been touched on more but other than that no complaints, completely hilarious, great characters I caught myself crying from laughter and actually hiding my face in a couple scenes from the tension! Also I need more orange hat art.
I'm probably going to go with starstruck next and Skip around from there but I've also started worlds beyond number and quick promo but a) very cool concept b) the sound design is incredible and c) after the first episode I absolutely HAVE TO get the Patreon content because it sounds so interesting
