The Inevitability of the Fate of the New California Republic
I know I'm late to the discussion, but I have a Fallout show hot take - I like that the NCR, as we know it, is gone.
Why? Because Fallout: New Vegas essentially says that they're doomed to extinction.
Three of the major faction leaders (Benny, Mr. House, and Caesar) all point out flaws with the NCR. Caesar, however, has the most interesting take on the NCR. Now, I'm not saying I agree with Caesar about literally anything aside from what he says about the NCR, because, of all the characters in the game, he has the most well-thought-out critique of the NCR:
Do you want my opinion as a former citizen, or future conqueror? {shrug} Actually, my opinion's the same either way. As a young man I was taught to venerate {mocking slightly}President Tandi of Shady Sands. "The Founding Mother of the New California Republic." Did you know her Presidency lasted 52 years? And that her father, Aradesh, was the Republic's first President? Does that sound like democracy to you, or a hereditary dictatorship?
If the Courier points out that Tandi was, in fact, voted in to office every time, Caesar responds:
Because the council didn't dare oppose her. She was too popular. She had the people's love. So things ran smoothly, more or less. And as soon as she was gone, as soon as there really could be "democracy" - what happened then? Ever since losing its queen, the NCR has been weaker, more diffuse. Democracy has been its weakness, not its strength.
Finally, if the Courier asks how democracy is the NCR's weakness, Caesar says:
Greed runs rampant. The government is corrupt, accepting bribes from Brahmin barons and landowners, to the detriment of citizens. The NCR is a loose conglomerate of individuals looking out for themselves. It's lost virtue. No one cares about the collective, the greater good. It's not built to last. I'm just hastening the inevitable.
And the thing is, he's not wrong. Speak to Brahmin barons on the Strip, and they'll essentially tell you the same thing. NCR soldiers will complain about the lack of supplies. The Great Khans hate them because the NCR massacred their people at Bitter Springs (which none of the NCR characters particularly care to talk about). Kimball, the leader of the NCR forces, is a fucking dumbass who's military strategy is to amass all of his soldiers at a single point and he's so bad at managing things that he needs a fucking mailman to come in and save the day.
The NCR was running on borrowed time the moment Tandi died. The Fallout showrunners obviously played, and understood, New Vegas.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk. In summary, the NCR sucks, Independent Vegas is the best ending, and New Vegas fucking rules.

Y'all out here talking about how Fig and Fabian are gonna be great older siblings like Ragh motherfuckin Barkrock isn't gonna be the best older sibling that kid could ever ask for. Not only is he ride or die for Fig and Fabian (and the Bad Kids in general, considering all they've done to help him) but he's just got so much love in his heart. You know he's gonna love that kid like his own sibling, and be as good an influence as he can possibly be.
And don't even get me started on Lydia.

And here I though the real Dunwich Horror was the friends we made along the way.
The real dunwich horror is inventing fake new england towns on fake new england rivers that would destroy the local hydrology

In addition to this, Milliway's and the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation are both references to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. The former is the Restaurant at the End of the Universe and the latter is widely regarded as the setting's worst company responsible for the creation of, amongst other misbegotten robots, Marvin the Paranoid Android.

"Check Republic" really pulls this post together.
Buckle up, European and Foreigner Tumblypoos, because I'm about to learn you a thing about AMERICA.
Tumblr media
You see these delectable motherflippers? These are called STATES. You stupid foreigners might not be able to wrap your head around this, but basically they're administrative subdivisions of the country.
And here's the thing: They are totally heckin' different from each other! For instance, New York:

Looks TOTALLY DIFFERENT from Kansas:
Tumblr media
And they both look TOTALLY different from California!
Tumblr media
So before you make fun of an American for not knowing where tiny third-world countries like "Check Republic" or "South Korea" are, maybe think about how much we have to learn about the unique regional differences in our OWN country. Maybe you should think about AMERICA more.

Star Trek: Deep Space 9 is absolutely crazy from Kira's POV.
When the series starts, you've just gotten out from under that genocidal control of the occupation of your people, run by a guy who constantly infers that he fucked your mom. Then, not 15 minutes after that, the Federation steps in and decides to send a bunch of people to take command of the station, ostensibly to help your people but you're pretty sure that's bullshit.
The main people they send are an obnoxious young doctor, a gruff (but undeniably affable) engineer, the hottest woman you've ever seen, and Just Some Guy, the latter of whom is the new commanding officer of the station and your new boss. Then, it turns out that your new boss is the messianic savior of your people's ancestral religion. This presents some problems.
Now, while this is unfolding, you quickly become TOTALLY PLATONIC BEST FRIENDS with the aforementioned hot woman (who it turns out plays host to a worm that grants her the memories of half a dozen other people). This might present some more problems (Prophets know you need those) in regards to the situationship you're in with the shapeshifting Lawful Neutral chief cop of the station, but he's also weirdly fixated on the Chaotic Good space goblin who runs the station's house of sin so you figure it all works out.
Anyway, you start to get to know your new boss, but there's a distance between you - turns out, he's not into being worshipped and would rather hang out with his son (who's a good enough kid). Eventually you overcome this awkwardness and become friends with your boss and realize he's just a really solid guy who lets you do war crimes and revenge missions if you're good.
Now, the next few years are a whirlwind of activity, all of it insane. Turns out, the Celestial Temple where your gods live is also a wormhole that opens up to the other side of the galaxy, which plays host to a xenophobic empire bent on the subjugation of all other life in the galaxy. This empire is run by the same race as the cop you have the ever-growing hots for and so you're conflicted about that. Then a war starts, and this is Bad.
The station you live on is eventually occupied by that same evil empire and your love interest falls under the sway of an absolute tyrant who manipulates him, causing more Problems. Then, miraculously, your friends retake the station and you reconcile with your love interest. Honestly, good times all around.
Eventually, after a very weird incident involving a self-aware hologram, you start dating the cop and you're totally in love, but then another tragedy strikes - your best friend dies and your boss becomes depressed and you take over the station, until he comes back.
When he returns, the war begins again in earnest, and eventually you have to go undercover with the man you love, the gay space lizard who runs the tailor's shop on the station, and a former member of the fascist military who did a genocide on your people. This would be an altogether great time - you get to be a terrorist and hang out with your bf, but there's another Problem - your bf is wasting away due to a disease he was given as part of a biological attack on the evil empire you're up against. You pretend that you don't know to let your bf save a little face because you love him more than life itself. You get the cure to that and are redeployed to help the terrorist cell you helped establish. Eventually, you win the day (yay!) but then your boyfriend realizes that to cure his people, he has to leave you (boo!). On top of all of this, your boss has vanished into the Celestial Temple and you feel bad about that, too. The series ends with you hanging out with the son of your old boss, who's a pretty solid guy, talking about his dad.

do you have any book recommendations like the lies of locke lamora?
Sorry for the delay in response!
Besides the sequels? If you like books with protagonists who aren't "good" in the "follows the law" sense, there's The Green Bones Saga. If you like the heist aspect, there's The Dresden Files book 15, Skin Game, but that's also 1000s of pages into the series lol. Other than that, not really - The Lies of Locke Lamora is something I haven't come across before.

My Star Trek headcanon is that Kira regularly daydreams various scenarios that all end with Sisko raising his arm and disintegrating Gul Dukat like Dr. Manhattan.

Really excited to see how her grief over Gideon's death interacts with the internalized self-hatred that Harrow was just starting to deal with, especially since a lot of that self-hatred came from her treatment of Gideon, the woman she loved.
