I'm watching The Pretender, and I'm obsessed with Jarod & Miss Parker. They have a great dynamic of enemies who are sometimes almost friends and kind of childhood sweethearts.

Also Miss Parker. Is. A. Badass. And she makes no apologies. She better realize The Center sucks and side with Jarod. That's the only plot point I care about.

November 7 is N7 Day in the Mass Effect world and since this is the first N7 Day I'll be experiencing since falling so in love with Andromeda, I wanted to make something for it!

Since there's only one N7 in Andromeda, then it's time for the Alec Ryder vid I've been wanting to make anyway, yay! 😇

I quickly figured out who Sara and Scott's dad reminds me of (in his default appearance)...

Michael T. Weiss as Jarod from the 1996 show The Pretender, which I looooooved so hard back in the day!

Anyway, I wish I'd thought of doing something for N7 Day a liiiiiiittle bit sooner, since NaNo will be starting on the first. But I'm going to try to work in a brief vid if I possibly can. Of course, there are several scenes that I don't have so I HAVE to play some more Andromeda to get them. I mean, it's for SCIENCE ART IMPORTANT REASONS that will be set to music, so... No choice. The Pretender. Me and mom use to love this show. The helping everyday Jarod thing was cute but the overall Center one was exciting. Then the plot went to hell stretching it out. Miss Parker however remains this awesome dark bombshell. And the chemistry of her and Jarod woof.

I would love a reboot.

Fluffbruary #2: Pets & Baby Animals (Miss Parker/Jarod, The Pretender)

Age catches up with them, the passage of time running as fast as she did after him. Except it's caught them while they're still chasing, Jarod thinking he must be at least fifty years old by now - and he is beginning to feel it.

Settle down, Jarod, Sydney's voice resonates in his head as he sits down next to the rabbit cage in Miss Parker's house, waiting for her to return. Make a life, far away, and Jarod winces at the coughs of age and ill health he hears down the phone from Sydney now.

The rabbit isn't the same one he had gifted Parker so many years ago - of course not, probably a third one by now - but it looks exacly the same; small nose snoffing the air as Jarod presses his hand against the cage at the same time he hears the click of the door.

"Why are you always in my fucking lounge room on days I just want to be alone." Age hasn't wearied her, really - her skirts a little longer now and her eyes more tired, but she's still the most beautiful woman he's ever seen. Since the first time they met, the most beautiful girl folding into a force of female that kept him awake most nights.

He smiles at her, and pushes his finger to his lips. "It's late."

"No shit, Jarod." She puts her briefcase down on the couch and marches over to Jarod and the rabbit, her body language a mix of tense and hesitant. He knows he disarms her when he's there in a civil manner - the chase off, the darkness around them - and he pats the ground next to him for her to sit. A little more hesitation, until she finally plops down, pulling at her skirt until she seems to not give a damn in the 2:45am blanket of night.

"What's his name?"

"Rabbit."

Jarod laughs, and he's surprised when she does too. "You named the one I gave you Rabbit, too."

She rolls her eyes, leaning forward to open the cage and pull Rabbit out. "Of course you'd know what I called a rabbit from fifteen years ago." A soft look crosses her face as she pulls Rabbit to her face, her eyes closing and Jarod stops himself from reaching out to touch her face gently like he so wants to.

"May I?" He takes a chance, not wanting to break the mood, and her eyes flick open in surprise.

"Careful, he…" she trails off. "You've been a vet before, no doubt you can handle him." Carefully, she passes Rabbit to Jarod and he's surprised for a moment at their hands brushing, a warmth passing through him she too felt judging from her face. Rabbit is soft, curling into Jarod's hands - he's always been good with animals and subpar with humans - and he begins stroking Rabbit with a gentle hand.

"He's very cute," he smiles, mirroring Miss Parker and nuzzling him with his face. Settle down Jarod, make a life, and for a moment, with Miss Parker smiling a wistful, almost happy smile at the scene in front of her, he thinks maybe it could be possible.

"He likes you," she almost sighs, leaning forward to stroke Rabbit. "He doesn't - well, not that I have many visitors."

"You have me," Jarod whispers, and she meets his eyes, finally.

"Yes," she says quietly back, still stroking Rabbit and finally resting her hand on his. "Yes, I'll always have you."

First ship ever: I'm not sure. It's either Mulder/Scully (X-Files), Picard/Crusher (Star Trek TNG), John/Delenn (Babylon 5) or Lois/Clark (Lois & Clark). I think they all appeared around the same time for me...

Last song you heard: Don't really remember. I really only listen to music in my car or when I'm writing and both have been a day or two ago.

Favorite childhood book: Hm, difficult question, I read a lot of books as a kid, but I don't really remember any of them. The one that has stuck with me was a Dutch YA book called Oorlogsjaren (Years of war) by Paul Kustermans. It's set in the first World War and follows a Flemish family as they try to survive the war while their son joins the Belgian army. It's gut-wrenching and heartbreaking and that's probably why it stuck with me so much.

Working on my canon-divergent multi-crossover fic for The Pretender has painfully reminded me how rare reasonably developed 30-something women characters were in mystery, thriller, and science fiction TV programming of the 1990s.

My adored Miss Parker was, in the most recently written scene, on her way out of the Centre to meet an old school (?) friend for lunch, for a conversation that needs to forward the plot and characterization.

Dana Scully would be ideal as a person, but the larger X-Files myth-arc doesn't fit with what I want to do with The Pretender. I'm sure someone has already done a brilliant XF/TP crossover in which Jarod is a green-blooded human-alien hybrid, and I'll doubtless read it eventually. But I'm the wrong person to write it.

Dr. Samantha Waters from Profiler would be an obvious choice, but at the era of my fic, she's still being guarded 24/7 and would not run off to Delaware for lunch. Rachel Burke, earlier in her career before she joins the profiling team, might be fun, if I could find a decent character bio.

That leaves me with Mrs. Smith from the "only two episodes ever aired throughout the full US" 1996 Mr. and Mrs. Smith series starring Scott Bakula or Kate Russell from the "only two episodes ever aired throughout the US" 1996 Sleepwalkers series that was part of NBC's Saturday night Thrillogy with The Pretender and Profiler.

Either of those two would help me with thematic direction, so the long-term answer may be "both but in different scenes."

1, 26, and 30

1. First ship you remember.

I've got three ships and I don't really remember which one came first but it's definitely one of the three of these that started me out on the road.

(Miss Parker and Jarod are probably responsible for my fascination with really complicated relationships full of dark elements mixed up with absolute pure love).

(I grew up on this one, and LOVED how it felt like they grew up with me too. Cory and Topanga went through so many stages of their relationship on screen and the number of times they threatened to break my heart but ultimately kept it safe? So many)

(I adored this movie. And this couple? One of my first. Completely epic. Even now)

26. Characters that you like in every dynamic (lovers, friends, enemies).

I have a very one track mind so if they're an OTP then I'm going to want them ultimately as lovers. I do however have a few ships that I enjoy seeing go through the stages of enemies to friends to lovers and absolutely adored observing them ALLLL through those stages.

One predictable example being these two:

(like don't even talk to me, I'm never getting over the freaking chemistry of the early day hatred and later day utter devotion (canon can throw itself down the well, thanks)).

30. Favourite canon ship.

Ahhhhhhh, those rarest of jewels. Actual canon confirmation.
