I made it! Honestly, 20 year old Frances wasn’t sure that was going to happen. At the time, an intrinsic sense of deep self loathing dictated by insecurity, destructive coping mechanisms & more trauma than my body or brain knew how to handle, informed how I saw myself and the world; through a lens of resentment for being brought into a life that seemingly attracted so much chaos and the kind of pain tied to grief that felt inescapable. Then, an event on a plane which brought me closer in proximity to death is ironically the event that catapulted me towards running at this lived experience with radical gratitude. I’m glad to have proven myself wrong & to have found ways to transform pain into knowledge. There’s a quote by @jaiyajohn I hold closely, which is “the softer she became with herself, the softer she became with the world”. It’s a sentiment I try to remember daily. Entering this new decade I hope to stay soft no matter how hardening the world can feel at times, bask in the present moment with reverence, shower the people I am lucky enough to love with more appreciation than words could ever do justice & hold space to keep learning, so the growth never stops. I’m happy to be here & I’m happy you’re here too. ❤️‍🔥 ☀️ 🦋

“Maybe you believe Love is a feeling? Love is a devotion. Feel that.” @jaiyajohn . . Wooo! I felt that … so much I had to share that. Who else is on this Love journey? . . I think I already shared this but I’m going to share it again. Who knows, the story might have an added layer, a new twist or a revision. 🤷🏾‍♀️🤣 . . When I graduated law school, I decided to get serious about becoming a writer. Instead of dreaming about it, wishing and hoping, I was going to take all of that energy and devote it to doing the thing. . . I decided, every time anyone asked me what I do, I’d say “I’m a writer.” It didn’t matter if I was working an admin job while gigging, house sitting to save on rent, couldn’t afford a ticket to attend a writers festival (all those things happened), I was “a writer”. People would then ask (with excitement, to my glee and surprise), “what are you writing?” And I’d tell them about that one manuscript that’s been bubbling away for almost twelve years. “I’m writing a love story.” Oh, people love a good love story! Usually, they would start to give me advice about romantic relationships and marriage. And I love that shit - soul mates, twin flames, fifty year long happy marriages … I love all of that cosmic esoteric love vibration/connection, soul partnership … LOVE IT. . . Somewhere along the line, I started to realise that love was not just a feeling, warm and fuzzy compulsion to be romantically involved with someone who brings joy into your world. It’s that, and then some. Listen, that’s another post. So let me just say, at some point I began to think about all the different types of love that exist but which we never read about or hear about or dance to songs about and reminisce with each other about. I’m talking about platonic love, sibling love, chosen family love, biological family love … pet love, Mama Earth love … all the loves, all the people, places and things into which we pour our devotion, rain or shine, and from which and whom we receive devotion, rain or shine. . . Love is a verb. It is commitment shown through action. A call to transformation in a dance with the entire universe. . . Eventually, the morning arrives, the sun streams through and following a deep sleep, we awake, but first we must let ourselves rest, letting go of the previous day. Sometimes that is not easy, even though it may be oh so wanted, but we gift ourselves with a bright new day to savor when we let ourselves slumber, this transition well, into the new day. I have been thinking quite a lot about the transition that is chosen from one life routine to a more desired life routine and rhythm, and in many ways it parallels the cycle described above. The last four weeks have found me for the first time entirely in my own company at home working, a life I have longed for, and chose and am grateful to have had the choice after the past twenty years working on another's schedule. However, when a schedule or way of life has been ingrained into our being, it can feel odd to shift away from it even though we know it is best and will be better for us to do so. In such moments of limbo and quandary as the new rhythm becomes our modus operandi, I am learning the best thing to do is "Pour some Love on it" as @jaiyajohn teaches. 'Pouring Love on it" will be unique to you and the moment based on what you need, but don't hesitate to do so. This morning Norman and I went for an early morning walk, returned home after making sure the bird cafés were full, made a pot of tea, sliced open an orange and in just those simple choices, the day became even brighter as so much presented itself for which to be grateful. No matter how your rhythm is changing, whether chosen or not, pour some Love on it and I am confident you will start feeling the rhythm you are now creating hums quite the awesome tune.
