okay so ramblings because i just saw wakanda forever and have thoughts. spoilers ahead!

i really got the feeling from the end scene with namora that namor was really playing the long game here. i don't think it was necessarily how he wanted things to go, but i think he knew that this was how it could end, and went in knowing that.

like, he wanted wakanda as an ally. he tested them, to see if they'd do so willingly - his whole conversation with shuri is establishing where wakanda in general and her specifically boundaries lie. he knew that they weren't going to choose to ally, not after he took shuri - so he chose to make it very clear that this was not a war wakanda could win - that they couldn't simply invade talocan.

and with Ramonda specifically, i feel like he knew she would never ally, but that because he'd shown shuri, she understood - ramonda wouldn't have spared him, i don't think, but shuri could, because angry as she was, she knew what he was doing it all for (she was the one who had tried for peaceful solutions, who hadn't wanted to be taken back).

it feels like (assuming they aren't forced not to) that bp3 is going to be the us (or, if they're cowards, "mercenaries") invading wakanda to steal the vibranium. because black panther or not, with their capitol drowned, they look weak. and with no one yet aware of talocan, they look like they have internal conflict - the director literally calls it a civil war. i think namor knew that; because sure, wakanda isn't weak, but they are alone, and eventually it does come down to numbers. if he sets up the opening for the west to invade (and he knows they will because has no faith in the surface world) then he knows a wakanda aware of and not actively fighting talocan will turn to him for help

he doesn't seem mean, but he feels ruthless. and i like that a lot more than hot-headed namor - he is much older, after all! i feel like namor works best when he's positioned as a villain not due to personal issues but simply because he is the king of a sovereign nation that is at odds with yours - that it's not petty world domination, but war. playing politics when everyone else is playing superheroes.

i don't know if that's what the scene at the end intended, but it definitely helps keep that difficult balance of "namor is a superhero who is our ally and can help" and "at any point namor may invade the surface world and drown a major city" that is the core.

The Joker was apprehended, sitting on the ground as Batman guarded him, but the kid--"Bruce Wayne's newest ward, how tragic! Hehehe!"--was nowhere to be found. Nightwing and Red Hood desperate searched the warehouse until a shuffling noise grabbed their attention.

A kid, black haired just like the kid in the Joker's broadcast, crawling out of a pile of boxes. "Is it over?" the boy asked quietly.

Nightwing guided him to the only exit, unfortunately walking past the boy's own kidnapper. "Yeah, kid. It's over. Come on-"

Like a shot, the boy rushed the Joker and kicked him right in the balls.

The Joker wheezed like a dying squeaky toy. Red Hood froze. Nightwing immediately snatched the boy up by the armpits, but all that did was give the boy the height to attack again, punting Joker in the jaw. The clown went down and cracked his head on the floor. He did not get back up.

There was a moment of silence before Red Hood roared with laughter, his helmet distorting the sound.

Simon has always been confused on why you gift him toys. Sure, most of the gifts you gave him were some of the things he liked. Bourbon, masks, gloves, make up for him to smudge his eyes with, some daggers and knives. Things that we're useful for him, just him. But later, you gifted him a toy airplane. He makes a comment about it, saying he is not a child anymore and you were better off giving it to Johnny instead.

"No, this is specifically for you, take it."

When he gets to him room, he walks toward his trash can, opening it with the tip of his boot. He gives one more look at the toy, his mood souring before throwing it into the trash. He goes on about his day, training, signing paper work, drills. Doing anything to ignore the pain stinging memories that the toy brought back. Emotions that were buried thousands of feet deep it could reach hell itself. Later, he lies awake in bed, staring at the ceiling, avoiding looking at the cylinder shape that's calling for him in his peripheral.

Fuck.

He pulls the covers off vigorously and stomps over to the trash can. He is standing over it like he's trying to intimidate it, as if it was an enemy he's trying to get rid of in battle. To anyone else, the scene would look comical.

He sighs to himself and reaches down to take out the toy he so cruelly threw away. He sets it on his desk and quickly walks toward his bed, facing away from his desk.

The next day, he wakes up feeling different. He swears he sees his room more vibrant, more lively. That energy follows him through out the day, having his other teammates notice his rather bright mood.

You catch him in the hallway. Pulling him aside to ask him about the paper work you left at his desk this morning. Of course, he notices the way you smile brightly, more so than usual. But he notices that you're not looking at him. More like looking at something next to him.

"What's got you so cheery?"

You turn to look up at him, feeling a bit embarrassed.

"I just..." You take a quick glance at the spot next to him, before bringing your eyes back upon his.

"I just hope you liked your gift." The same bright smile appearing on your face.

He stares at you, examining your words. Your expression.

You think you see his eyes crinkle a bit.

"Yea,"

"I liked it."

are people seriously not understanding that the whole point of colin's arc this season is him trying to be something he's not??

like sure the brothel scenes are a little weird and jarring but like they're meant to be??? because he's not actually that into it, he's just trying to do what all the other men his age are doing so he can fit in??

the writers aren't trying to 'turn him into anthony or simon' or make him a rake because that's what we're used to - HE'S trying to turn HIMSELF into anthony or simon or basically any of the other guys who this comes naturally to; who enjoy sleeping with lots of different people somewhat emotionlessly and don't get lonely because of it (and no judgement to that it's just not him)

he literally kisses Pen ONCE and absolutely loses his mind over it because its obviously never felt like that for him before. that moment is his 'oh so that's what that's supposed to feel like' moment and that's how he knows he's in love with her its literally so good???

i understand people feel like its rushed but honestly to me it feels perfectly in character for him to discover the solution to his loneliness he's been searching for all this time and immediately dive into it headfirst. that moment right at the end of ep4 where he asks her to marry him is the most authentic colin i think we've seen all season. he's sweet and funny and playful and passionate and impulsive - he's finally stopped trying to be someone he's not and now that he knows who he is and what he wants he's all in.
