It’s Time…

It’s a new year, we’re queer, and the show is officially here. So we all know what that means…

… time to start aggressively shipping all our OCs with Vox.

No but really. The TV man really won this round hands down, both tied behind his back. Which means he and Claude will now be the reigning power couple they were always meant to be.

I’m sorry y’all Husker fuckers (me included) but after his voice change I just…. lost all interest in making them endgame. Which is really sad, considering how much I loved Mick’s interpretation of him. Look look- it’s no hate to Keith, because I love the man, he’s a national treasure we all know this, but he really just isn’t… Husk. To me at least. I adjusted for the show, and it’s… fine… but not what grabs me anymore. And I think that’s ok because now I’m much happier giving him back to Angel in this fic. So… I have to decide what I really want to do in terms of what I’ve already thought up, but Vox is now my main man and I was so happy they didn’t fuck him up at least. (Val is a whole nother disaster I don’t have the strength to get into rn…) The Megara in me is elated he’s literally a confirmed Hades archetype and I can’t resist the siren call of a childish douchebag in a suit with a flatscreen for a face. So mote it be.

But anyway! I’m gonna get back into this side blog and just wanted to announce the shift in storyline. It’s not that much different, but she’s not going to be seducing Husk anymore as a main trope. Not that this really matters much- I barely outlined a coherent plot on here lol. I don’t even know who really follows this anyway. More Claude is def on the way tho, especially now that I have much more content to play with. So if you’re still following me, a big ass thank you and pls enjoy the impending chaos!

I write a lot of fics. This is my way of reflecting on what I've done this month. Check 'em out if you want!

Multi-chapter fics:

If I Get Lost Along the Way - Ed and Stede hit it off when they both go to key Ed's ex-boyfriend's car at the same time, and they have to put in the hard work of healing themselves and supporting each other after finding love long after they'd both given up on it. Lots of healing from trauma and past abuse, but loving and hopeful overall. Modern AU, rated E, 75k words.

One shots:

A Timeless Thing - maybe my favorite fic I've ever written. Ed and Stede are hanged for piracy in 1733, and they find each other again almost 300 years later. Tragedy followed by hope, real soulmates vibes. E, 5k.

Down in the Ol' Gravy Basket - when Ed gets sick, it brings up bad memories for both him and Stede. In which Ed gets scared of soup, Stede yells at g-d, and they have a talk about the Gravy Basket. Canon-compliant, M, 3.5k.

Fallin' for You - Stede and Ed are best friends, and Stede's terrified of ruining their friendship by asking Ed out. When disaster strikes, he struggles to know if Ed likes him back or if he'll never want to see him again. Modern AU, T, 4k.

Just a Little Fall of Rain - Ed has a rough morning, and Stede helps him sort through some complicated feelings. My answer to "it was a little fucked up to chain Ed to the railing after he woke up fresh out of his suicide attempt, right?" Canon-compliant, M, 3k.

A Moment as Sharp and Delicate as a Sword - canon divergence where Ed accidentally admits he's in love with Ed while delirious after Stede stabs him. Sweet and cute! M, 5k.

Dianne Feinstein, the oldest member of the U.S. Senate and the longest-serving senator from California, has died at age 90, two sources familiar with the matter told NBC News on Friday.

The Democrat’s passing marks the end of a boundary-pushing political career that spanned more than half a century, studded with major legislative achievements on issues including gun control and the environment.

Feinstein had planned to retire at the end of her current term in 2024.

Feinstein’s death leaves vacant her powerful Senate seat, requiring Gov. Gavin Newsom to appoint a temporary successor.

A San Francisco native, Feinstein cleared a path for women in politics as she rose the ranks of leadership. After two failed bids for mayor, she was elected president of San Francisco’s board of supervisors in 1978, becoming the first woman to hold the title.

Feinstein was made acting mayor of the city later that year, after then-Mayor George Moscone and Harvey Milk, her colleague on the board of supervisors, were assassinated by Dan White, a former member of the same board.

In later interviews, Feinstein recalled finding Milk’s body and searching for a pulse by putting her finger in a bullet hole.

Feinstein was the first to announce the murders to the press. She was appointed mayor a week later, again becoming the first woman elevated to the office.

The tragedy had the side effect of jumpstarting Feinstein’s political career, but the trauma of the day stuck with her even decades later.

“I never really talk about this,” Feinstein said with a sigh when asked about the murders in a CNN interview in 2017.

Her streak of firsts continued at the national level. Feinstein lost a gubernatorial bid in 1990, but two years later won a special election to the U.S. Senate, becoming California’s first female senator.

Weeks later, the state’s second female senator, Barbara Boxer, was sworn into office, making California the first state in the U.S. to be represented in the Senate by two women.

Their 1992 elections helped define the “Year of the Woman,” in which four Democratic women were newly elected to the Senate — more than doubling the chamber’s female representation.

In the Senate, Feinstein clinched some of her biggest legislative achievements. She wrote and championed the 1994 assault weapons ban, both a landmark bill and a continuation of a career-long effort to enact stricter gun controls.

The legislation passed Congress and was signed by then-President Bill Clinton, albeit with major compromises including a 10-year sunset provision. The ban expired in 2004 during the administration of George W. Bush.

She also sponsored bills that protect millions of acres of California’s desert, worked to create a nationwide AMBER alert network, helped reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act and fought for the release of a lengthy report detailing the CIA’s torture practices, among other accomplishments.

It's hard to find words that describe exactly what I'm feeling right now. The state I live in, Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil, is suffering from floods, thousands of people losing everything, their families, homes, EVERYTHING, some people only have the clothes left with them. Many animals, houses, cars and people being swept away by the current, people are stranded, this is the biggest natural disaster that has ever happened in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

The state capital: Porto Alegre, is practically under water, the Guaíba river has overflowed at a record level (about five meters) and there are cities where the water reaches the roofs of houses, in Canoas apparently there are reports of bodies floating, the Feliz city had 75% of its territory devastated by the rains, roads are blocked or collapsed.

The rains remained in my city throughout the week, except for yesterday on Sunday and according to the weather forecast today on Monday, however, the rest of the week has rain forecast, and if the rains return, everything starts again. I just hope that during Sunday the authorities were able to rescue as many people and animals as possible and that these people are now in a safe shelter.

In my city where my house is located, it is out of risk and I am so grateful for that, but places where friends, colleagues and relatives live are at great risk. There are colleagues and friends of my brothers with whom contact has been lost because they live in affected areas and no one knows what could have happened.

Brazil (my country) mobilized completely to help with the rescues and also to donate money and supplies such as food, clothes and blankets to the flood victims.

Therefore, I ask those who cannot help directly, to please send positive energies to us, for the recovery of these cities and these people and our planet. Please hope for the well-being of these people. May this tragedy end soon and may it not cause any more victims along the way. May we all be safe soon. My English is far from being decent so there are probably a lot of grammar errors. =)

I hope this tragedy opens people's eyes.

we know that, every year, rain will come and flood at least a handful of cities around the state. we know that, if it rains a lot in the countryside, all that water will funnel down to Lake Guaíba. we know that people living in the islands near Porto Alegre are going to be affected even if it's mild. hell, it hasn't even been a full year since the last time Eldorado was flooded.

the climate crisis is going turbo on everyone's ass but still, we know it. we have slang to call someone an idiot that translates to "1941's flood dumbass" because, you know, it's been happening for a long time.

it's 2024 and people still don't bother paying attention to who it is they give their votes to. you know, the people who can invest in preventive actions and make sure everyone's safe. it's like we forget that we are entrusting our own wellbeing and that of others to people who will say what we want to hear, whatever that is.

we can't see the future, but we can prepare, and read, and ask, and argue, and vote. no, not all politicians are the same. no, not all of them have good intentions. it's our job as citizens to see through the bullshit and hold them accountable - and I hope the biggest flood since 1941 makes people look at things differently. and for the love of all the gods, get your head out of your ass and stop with the canceling out your vote thing.

Undead Unluck Week 2024

Day 1 - Favorite Negator: Gina Chamber

After much deliberation, I finally landed on Gina as my favorite member of the UU cast

If I had to put a fine point on it, I'd say that it's because I love love. Nothing makes me happier than seeing someone so in love that it turns them silly, and to me, nobody in UU is as silly as Gina

Sure, the entire cast is made of goofballs, and Feng has the biggest gap between his usual serious self and how silly-in-love he obviously is with Fuuko, but Gina's entire character is based on her overflowing, borderline obsessive, unchanging love for the people in her life

The lengths that L100 Gina went to stay the same as the day she met Andy while every other iteration of her allowed themselves to age normally suggest that she either A) wanted him to recognize her when they met again, or B) wanted to be like him, remaining static through the ages, either because she admired his ability to resist change or because she thought it would make him feel less alone to have someone like him in the world. I don't believe it was ever stated anywhere (and if it was I missed it), but I'd like to believe that on some level it was the latter

L101 Gina may not be actively inhibiting her aging process, but Gina is just as desperate to be around Fuuko, such as when she snuck aboard the space shuttle despite being wounded during the Buroja Conflict. She will give everything of herself for Fuuko's sake, and Fuuko's happiness is her happiness

It's appropriate that L100 Gina, who wished to die to escape the weight of her guilt, fell in love with a man who wished to die to escape the weight of his loneliness, while L101 Gina, who wishes to hold onto her happiness, fell in love with a woman who fights so everyone can hold onto their happiness. Her love for Andy was a reflection of her mentality at the time, while her love for Fuuko is the source of her current mentality

Her love and the state of her character are inextricably linked, and the interaction between the two serves as the best example of UU's unique brand of "reverse character development," showing the cast as their ideal and fully realized selves after their tragedies are negated

This is especially fitting as Gina was the first of the Union to be saved, so of course she's the one with the most drastic and persistent change in her perspective

The first major opponent in part 1, the first major ally in part 2, Gina is one of the closest cast members to being one of the main characters, possibly only surpassed by Rip. With such a strong influence on the narrative and vice versa, it's no wonder Gina won me over
