as much as i love splatoon lore. you all know i love splatoon lore. as much as i love splatoon lore i am not afraid to admit that a lot of the impact is lost via the storytelling methods.

For example, the Sunken Scrolls. a HUGE part of the lore is from here. and a lot of impact is lost simply because these scrolls don't allow for any further exploration. At most you'll get a few scroll pages (a paragraph for each page) on a topic. Like the fact that Judd was from the human time and was cryogenically frozen.

If they wanted to explore that concept, it could be devastating. He had an owner, a human who loved him very much. A human who loved his cat so much that, when faced with the end of the world and the resources to only save one person, he elected to save his cat. But instead of a big story with drama and heartache, we get like 3 paragraphs on it, and then... nothing.

Humanity's downfall is another big devastating lore beat, obviously, and to its credit it does have somewhat of a focus in Splatoon 3, via the Alterna Logs! Instead of a picture of a human skeleton with a Wii U nearby (a canon sunken scroll btw), we have multiple mini stories on how the survived, and how they died. The Alterna Logs are GREAT, and in my mind they're impactful! Even the fact that you can only unlock them a few sentences at a time via completing missions didn't stall it too much, as the logs tell a whole story rather than a tiny lore dump.

But it's.. not always treated that way. There's the previously mentioned drawing of a human skeleton with a Wii U right next to it (a gamer to the end...) and characters regularly mention that humans are dead without a care. Which, y'know, makes sense. Humans are long extinct, and the fish have no attachment to them. But it does negate a lot of the meaning.

Then there's cases where the drear is hidden away within mere implications, like with OE's "hundreds of dead test subjects" beat. While it's fun to sit there and have it slowly dawn on you that many test subjects likely did get blended up, it really messes with the impact of it.

My final point here is the areas of the lore left unexplored. The biggest instance of this, imo, is the Octarian society, which we... know next to nothing about. We know they live underground. We know they are in the middle of a power crisis. We know that they can be inspired by Calamari Inkantation to leave. But what about their daily lives? What is it like deep down in Octo Valley? What is it like to live in the middle of a power crisis like that, and what is it like under Octavio's rule? This could be such an interesting perspective, but we're left with next to nothing. A few Sunken Scrolls, and a few bits of poetry from Agent 8, but after that...

Like I said, I love Splatoon lore, truly. It's fun and it's dark and it's crazy. But a lot of its impact, its meaning, its passion, is left with less simply due to the way its told.

As weird as it might be to suggest, I kinda hope we get a Splatoon spinoff that's not a multiplayer shooter, something that can properly explore the lore and let people process just how devastating it really is. It's one thing to say all of humanity went extinct, and it's another thing to really feel the impact of that.

I know the developers have passion for the world they made. That's apparent with just how much lore we have in general- if they didn't care about the world of Splatoon, we wouldn't even have an explanation for why Inklings are humanoid. Or, well, for the vast majority of things in the game. No one really needs to know that microbes in the air are what make the ink disappear after games, but we have that information because the developers love what they made.

I just hope that we eventually reach a point where this can be properly explored.

In my interpretation there's more dimensions than just The End and Nether. There's also the Twilight Forest and The Aether because those two mods register as Vanilla+ in my mind. (Also stuff like Glares, Mooblooms, Copper Constructs, etc. are here too because I'm a salty jackass and this is MY silly thing ♡)

People in this are more or less furry-esque due to exposure to magic. Scar lived in a more magical environment than Martyn, so he's more cat-like instead of more humanoid.

"Undeads" are just their own thing and not actually dead! They have light sensitivity to the point of burning/melting due to the sun leeching their magical energy. Skeletons are very thin naturally and have a high metabolism and very good eyesight. Their eyes are sunken and black but their pupils reflect lots of light like a cat's would. Zombies are slower and have a symbiotic relationship with a bacteria that helps them survive on less food but makes them smell kinda gross. Wither skeletons are similar to normal skeletons but are much faster, taller, and more muscular. Though, their bones are much more brittle.

Planets/Dimensions Radiate magic from within themselves, and Stars burn away their own magic and neutralize it with their light. (Hence why undeads burn in sunlight) The farther you go underground the more magical the lifeforms are. The Nether and Twilight Forest are both underground dimensions due to their planets being closer to their stars. The End is a gas giant with magic infused islands of rock that float naturally, though it is close to its star it's atmosphere is so dense that it isn't effected very much. Btw the Nether is Venus. I know this in my heart ♡ (the other three are just random high-magic planets that linked to The Overworld) The Aether is also a gas giant but is more linked to The Overworld's magic, thus when you fall into the core you wind up in The Overworld's atmosphere. Bedrock is infused with so much magic that it isn't breakable by mortal lifeforms.

Humans do exist! Btw! I know I only have two but listen... I'm a furry. Humans generally are more effected by magic than anything else, hence why there are so many human-like people in my interpretation.

Okay. alright, I needed a separate post to go in detail, because now I'm pumped! BTW I only quickly looked up the bijuus’ references to have some guidance, so they might not be all exact, I also went a bit by their appearaces alone.

Unfortunately I can’t fit the number of tails, but this is a great excuse for me to ramble about these lovely myths to anyone interested.

Ichibi Shukaku, the shapeshifting tanuki - I might be probably forgeting some, but I decided to go with an animal I like. It kinda matches how bloodthirsty Shukaku was in the begining, but it’s a bird instead. Matinta Pereira is a little owl (sometimes mistaken or also described as a potoo) that brings the news of death. Sometimes it takes the shape of a witch, other times is an old man seeking petty regenge. Another nice detail: since both tanukis and kitsunes are somewhat tricksters, the Matinta is actually sometimes related to the creature I chose for Kyuubi too.

Nibi Matatabi, the cat ghost - The obvious here would be to go with the Alma-de-gato (Cat soul) which is literally a shadow or spectral cat that appears to haunt children who misbehave, silently staring into their souls with (literal) burning eyes. Totally fits and I’d be happy with it. BUT if we take what looks the most like the beast in the series and just overall vibe, I’d have to go with Boitatá. Nothing to do with cats, just a giant fire snake with its body covered in eyes. This myth is actually closely related to the will-o'-wisp so many times the fire is made blue

Anon says “Boitatá would make a fucking awesome bijuu let’s be honest” and that is true! Boitatá IS one of my favorite myths for a reason! Not only it looks badass the legend says the snake protects fields and forests from anyone trying to set illegal fires by blinding them, or driving them into madness or just straight up killing them.

Sanbi Isobu, the sea demon - Here I picked the Ipupiará who’s basically another sea demon, though more humanoid, kind of resembling a mermaid, but more of a walrus shaped one. There are multiple stories and creatures similar to this one, but I like the older and more murderous version for this. Option TWO is another one of my favorites (another giant snake, of course it’s another snake): Boiúna, the black snake. A huge, river long, pitch black snake with flame red eyes, that just scares anyone living by the rivers by sinking ships or straight up swallowing them. Neither of these has any moral or motivation, they’re just beasts.

Yonbi Son Goku, the monkey king - For this one I went with the idea of an “Imposing monkey-like creature” and got: Mapinguari, this huge, smelly, man devouring monster. These monsters, mostly known in the amazon region, easily stand at over 2 meters tall, sometimes depicted with a single eye in the forehead and with a huge mouth full of razor sharp teeth stretching all the way to the bellybutton. They attract the prey by screaming like desperate humans and deceiving people to go help. To have this one as a source of power is nice, but wouldn’t be nearly as respectable as the original.

Gobi Kokuou, Hanging horse head and ghost whale - Okay so a horse. that’s easy: Mula sem cabeça, literally a Headless horse, with fire coming out of its neck. This one is widely known in the country so it has many MANY variations, but the shape is what matters here, so ‘only head horse’ for ‘no head horse’. Not sure how to fit the whale ghost part :(

Rokubi Saiken, the shellfish ogre - Alamoa! I’ve been told not many people know about this one?? But searching for this shellfish ogre, the wiki description fits quite perfectly with the Alamoa. She is a storm (thunder? lightning?) ghost, who appears on stormy nights dancing naked in the beaches of Fernando de Noronha. She is very pale and with near white blonde hair and attracts fishermen with her beauty and treasures, only to trap them and turn into an skeleton before killing them.

Nanabi Choumei, a rhinoceros beetle - This one was surprisingly hard, but let’s go with a simple one: Minhocão (literally big worm). Huge worm like creature living in rivers or underground that also goes around sinking ships. I would also take the ‘lucky seven’ joke and turn it around by using Caapora (out of the numerous names, this is the one I’m most familiar with), who is said to bring bad luck! Caapora can be an angry little girl, a creature with red skin and hair or even a cyclops, they ride a boar (queixada) and cause depression and bad luck to whoever meets them.

Hachibi Gyuki, the cow demon - Immediate choice: Boi Bumbá (with many name variations). It’s an annual performance/celebration telling the story of death and ressucitation of an ox. There’s a lot of dance and colorful outfits involved so it makes for a nice visual for a magical beast. BUT I also remembered a more regional one called Boi Vaquim: a winged bull with golden horns and diamonds for eyes that spits fire. How badass is that?

Fun fact: ‘boi’ is the actual portuguese word for bull/ox, but in native tupí language ‘boi’ stands for snake so we have the snakes boitatá and boiúna.

Kyuubi Kurama, the kitsune - Absolutely NOTHING to do with foxes, but I’m going to pick Saci! Simply for the trickster nature. Sacis are probably the most famous supernatural creature in brazilian mythology. They vary in shape (can be human or have goat horns and beard or bird foot), size (from tiny little fairies living in flowers to 2m tall with scales and claws), power (can create small tornadoes, grant wishes, spoil food), nature (they go from harmless and inconvenient pranks to kidnapping children and beating up animals to death), but the base look is of a pitch black humanoid creature - most times a black boy - with a single leg and red pointy hat. Option two for visuals: Maned wolf.

How did Red Mass start?

To get an idea of what my AU is, you gotta know how my dumb brain thought of it.

2015. I was absolutely sucked into Undertale after watching a german YouTuber play it, and then I started watching a certain Irish fella play it as well.

I started watching comic dubs of all the Au's that people made, faning out and just binged watched everything relating to it.

Then my family and I had vacation.

A trip to Rome (it was hot and awful, never again. Fucking 40°C celsius are you kidding me?)

It was a 15 hour trip (with bathroom/ smoker breaks)

And i layed in the back of the car, daydreaming about all those Au's.

It was awesome and cool and I slowly started to MAYBE get pandora syndrome of where I desperately wanted to be a part of those stories (I know. Cringe)

It got so bad that I maaaaybe cried in bed every night hoping I'd just wake up in the stories (but my life sucks so that also played a role)

So on that car ride, Luna lovania (god the cringe hurts me badly) was born.

A skeleton oc at first, later being an oc that is a fusion of Frisk and sans (which still is a part of Red Mass)

I daydreamed 15 hours + 15 hours back about Red Mass, it was such bliss (and even while we were in Rome)

And since that point, I have kept daydreaming every day for 8 years, and it became a big part of my life (as ridiculous as this sounds)

I just realized I might be insane.

Oh well

I will make a specific Red Mass post, explaining the story a bit and character introduction ((but not revealing too many spoilers since I kinda wanna make it into a thing))

actually,your url just reminded me of the boneHILL and my quest to figure out what the fuck it's actually made of. the books say it's prey bones but like: leopardstar,tigerstar and blackstar can all comfortably sit on it,that's a fuck ton of prey bones. as a kid i just fully assumed it was actually a mix of cat bones and the bones of larger animals like deer. and also,how the fuck did tigerstar MANAGE to get enough bones to make a full mountain of them, like logistically.

So you sent me on a goddamn goose chase trying to calculate just exactly how much prey a clan would need, vs how much prey they could actually catch if they were trying to construct a bonehill

Logistically speaking there's no way Tigerstar could have cleaned those bones fast enough to use them for construction purposes. Plus, cats don't naturally pick their meals clean- if they're eating a small animal, they would crunch right through several bones. But let's make some estimates, assuming they're butchering their meat perfectly

First we'll start off with how much prey a clan needs to begin with. Let's use mice as a general metric.

I found this chart breaking down the nutritional value of rodent prey. The first result on DuckDuckGo will tell you a mouse is 30 calories and that's absurdly, hilariously wrong; a mouse is 5.25 calories per gram. A cat needs 110 calories on average a day, so an average 20 gram mouse is enough to feed a single cat. 15 clan cats per clan in TPB on average, times two to make TigerClan, that's 30 cats, 30 mice a day, 900 mice a month.

This is assuming, btw, that warriors hunt a lot less mice than the average feral cat. Irl cats kill just for sport, and can take an average of 8 mice a day (often, these aren't even completely eaten). These numbers would be higher if Tigerstar was telling them to just kill prey for vanity purposes.

So we could actually calculate this based on active hunters instead. In that case, 8 - 10 cats are usually active warriors, we're not counting queens, elders, medcat, so let's assume 8 hunters.

9 x 8 = 72 entire mice a day. This is already insane, but hit that x 30 for the month, you're looking at 2,160 dead mice, and also a pretty devastated ecosystem. This absolutely violates the rule in the code to not waste prey, and only for a construction project, but ok, Tigerstar doesn't care about the code.

Would that actually be enough bones to cover the hill?

A mouse is about 20 grams on average. I do not know how much a mouse skeleton weighs, but a human skeleton is about 20% of your weight so you're just gonna have to bear with me because my NSA agent already thinks I want to eat mice. 2 grams of bones.

Lower estimate: 2g x 900 = about 4 pounds. That's a pile, not a hill.

Higher estimate: 2g x 2,160 = 9 1/2 pounds. That is a bigger pile, but still not a hill.

I think the most realistic way he could build the bonehill would be to use the high stone as a base or construct a new one of mudbricks, and then create a "bone facade" on the outside. That's doable.

Other types of prey?

I didn't even bother with calculating other types of prey because RiverClan is already at an obvious disadvantage. They hunt fish. Fish bones are extremely thin, they would be GARBAGE for building with, not even mentioning the horrific reek they'd be letting out.

ShadowClan would be pulling all the weight, and forcing RiverClan cats to only hunt mice, water voles, etc, reducing their overall yield

But what about big prey? Ok-- what sorts of big prey can they actually hunt? We only know of two possibilities; sheep and deer. RiverClan is already at a disadvantage here, because they don't hunt terrestrial prey. What about ShadowClan? Probably also at a disadvantage here, as hunters in marshland. We have also never seen them take down an animal so large.

Scavenging, perhaps? They could find deer bones... dog bones... sheep bones maybe.

In conclusion

Logistically there's no way for Tigerstar to have produced enough bones to make a solid hill that three cats can perch on, however, it would be possible to cover a mud facade in bones.

In order to do that, Tigerstar had to be pushing his warriors to break the code and abuse the land they were hunting on, while forcing RiverClan to hunt unsuitable prey, and force his warriors to eat very carefully as to not break any prey bones that need to be used for building.

It may have been helpful for Tigerstar to include the bones of large animals such as sheep and deer from scavenging, or to kill large predatory animals such as foxes and badgers.

All of that said, it's ok because the bonehill was very cool and that's actually the only reason WC needs to do anything, imo.

i finished my evil playthrough in bg3 and have 252 hours on record so i decided to take a break and play divinity original sin 2 for the first time and it's kinda funny seeing the origins of a lot of mechanics from bg3. i'd say so far that the normal difficulty in dos2 is generally easier than balanced in bg3 (which is a hot take, i know, but hear me out). maybe it's just that i got used to bg3 and turn based mechanics but i found myself very overpowered for lvl 2 compared to bg3 where in my first playthrough i couldn't kill a few scuttling brains without dying. in dos2 by lvl2 i was taking on 3-4 human characters at once and winning by a Lot. i'm assuming the game picks up though, i did hear it's harder than bg3 so maybe i just haven't seen that yet. but the small things are endearing too, like the fact that some icons for things were subsequently used in bg3 like the trap disarm toolkit, the fact that they used the same barter system, the fact that the game itself works the same exact way aside from combat (which is ever so slightly different). the controls are the same, the hotkeys are (mostly) the same by default, you have the same mechanics like sneaking but they do this hysterical thing where you transform into a boulder or bush when sneaking and i love how silly that is So Much. but yeah, a lot of things are the same in bg3, but a lot of things are much improved in bg3. bg3 has more detailed options for combat (i'm only comparing the first few hours of gameplay btw, i have no idea what late game dos2 is like) and more options in general. i found myself missing the ability to jump or disengage or the action/bonus action/movement being separate and not all ruled by one stamina currency like they are in dos2, although obviously they're not going to be the same since dos2 is its own thing (larian homebrew) and not based on dnd. some stuff i found needlessly punishing but more in a roleplay sense than gameplay wise, like the fact that a guard can permakill your cat friend out of nowhere and you can't do anything but reload if you want to keep it alive. overall i love how detailed the dialogue is, they clearly took an already amazing system and only made it better in bg3. oh yeah and the skeleton dude fane is an instant hit with me, he reminds me of astarion in that he's a bit of a bitch and really whiny but i love characters like that. if he had animations to go with his dialogue he'd be unstoppable. anyway yeah that's my initial thoughts about dos2 lol i really enjoy it so far!

Honestly if we take into account the most popular headcanons and features we can extrapolate from canon the entire troll species becomes taxonomy nightmare

They are a species that has 11 (formerly 12, that we know of) distinct different colours of blood, which differentiate between trolls far more than races could ever do in humans. They present mammalian or mammalian-like traits like hair and breasts and sweat, except the only hair they have is in the head, no sign or reference to other body hair, but are deeply referenced as insects, being hatch from eggs implied to be by the thousand with fully formed heads (with hair!!!!) and eight insect-like legs, except they have a weird symbiotic relationship with the another whole taxonomic terror that are lussi, wich are basically supersized earth animals, wich are completely nuclear white to stand the burning sun, wich have a similar blood system going on, that they use to ADOPT trolls, and one caste of lussi is tasked with using the genetic material of trolls? To make more eggs????

Trolls have internal skeletal structure but also some form of exoskeleton, the first of which they gain by "pupating" however apt the term is here. They are definitely nocturnal and probably have some limited night vision. Again, they are adopted by animals, who range from basically a dog to a eldritch horror that previously existed outside time and space (though this one is a bit of an outliner) in terms of intelligence, and normally trolls and lussi end up with similar characteristics, like cat lips or wings, is it because lussi choose based on likeness? Do trolls develop those features by exposure??? Who knows. Also trolls live span varies wildly, from half the average human life expectancy to literally the span of all human history and all in-between, those who live longer have incredible physical strength and general resilience to damage AND resistance to psychic powers, which SURPRISE!! Trolls have, to be precise those at the bottom, who on average have the capability to power entire spaceships, also tend to have flatter teeth whereas the other extreme have deep abyss needle teeth. Some can have wings some can have more than two eyes and or strange pupils, they have a whole alphabet to denote different lineages, wich along other pieces of information implies that trolls eggs are laid all in the same batch and emerge as they hatch, they are also thought to be capable of purring, at least once depicted as having blood colored stripes under UV light, sometimes they are imagined with tails and other animal traits, like animalistic appendages and, most important, toe beans. And please don't get me started in the clusterfuck that are the quadrants and the fucked up reproduction system

I can't tell if I missed something because trolls as a whole are so similar to us but so deeply alien, and I feel like the only reason we don't think about it is because they are mostly depicted through a painted medium, like, the this i said are not really estrange and can be found in nature (except the blood thing, that's wholecloth original, I think), but if you put it all together it creates a very fucked up species and I can only imagine biologists of all specialities trying of classifying this genetic alphabet soup of a species

-there are humans/players and hybrids. Hybrids are half mob, half human.

 -Some are not exactly half and half, but like 70% mob and 30% human or 40% mob and 60% human. Hybrids can be any mob kind; hostile, passive or neutral.

(example: Schlatt-Ram: passive Ranboo-Enderman: neutral Awesamdude-Creeper: hostile)

 -two hybrid parents can’t get a human child and two human parents can’t get a hybrid child. However, one human and one hybrid parents can get a human, or a hybrid child (Sally+Wilbur=Fundy)

 -shapeshifters are also a thing.

 -Shapeshifters are hybrids that were born as a certain hybrid, but can change into different hybrids. For example, you’re born as a skeleton hybrid but figured out, when you got older, that you could change into a parrot.

 -Shapeshifters can change into two hybrids minimum and five hybrids max.

 -when a shapeshifter gets a hybrid child, the kid will be the same hybrid as the shapeshifters birth form.

 -Sally is a shapeshifter. She was born as a fox hybrid what caused Fundy to be born as a fox. She can change into a fox, salmon and sheep.

 -shapeshifters are really rare

 Hybrid facts

-hybrid can hide their hybrid features, but it takes a lot of energy.

-on the Dream SMP it’s forbidden to use any hybrid abilities. This involves flying, teleportation, shooting fireballs or anything a normal player can’t do.

-hybrids can kid of feel if another person is a hybrid. There’s some sort o connection between them. You won’t know what type of hybrid, unless you’re both the same.

 Kerotonium

-Kerotonium is a plant that is extremely dangerous for hybrids, but not for players or mobs.

Kerotonium is some sort of poison. Once you consume it, you’ll become sick. The symptoms aren’t really special, most of the time just stomach ache, headache, dizzy, nauseous and tired. Only three days after you consumed it, specific Kerotonium symptoms start appearing. Your eyes turn completely black, same with your fingertips. You start to cough up some strange black goo and you start to hallucinate. The hallucination usually has something to do with your biggest fear. If you’re scared of spiders, you’ll start to see giant spiders every time you open your eyes. It doesn’t work when you’re blindfolded.

 -Kerotonium is deadly. If you don’t take the medicine you’ll die 5-10 days after you consumed the Kerotonium. (The medicine doesn’t have an official name yet) It only works in the form of an injection.

 -the medicine contains some rare items:

*Ghast tear

*Blaze rod

*Crimson fungus

*Rabbit foot

*Milk

*Honey

*Chorus fruit

 -Since it’s forbidden to go to the End, you’re unable to get chorus fruit so it’s guaranteed that the hybrid will die.

 -Kerotonium takes away all of your lives, even if you have still three lives left. If you’re lucky you return back as a ghost.
