As a fellow Dovewing lover, it's frustrating how the fandom watered her down into a whiny brat who never cared about Ivypool. I mean, seriously? Not only did Dovewing care about her sister (reacting in horror when Lionblaze, her own mentor and Jayfeather are willing to potentially sacrifice Ivypool's safety by employing her as her spy instead of trying to get her out of the Dark Forest's clutches, hiding a thorn in her nest to cover for her scarring from her training).

Heck, even the scene where she tries to feed Ivypool her catch during a hunting patrol was demonized because 'she was trying to make Ivypool break the code like SHE does, as if it doesn't matter' and because she got upset when Ivypool started arguing with her! But you guys said she didn't care, right? Plus, people act like being forced into a prophecy is something you should be grateful for, as if it didn't irreparably change her close relationship with her sister? As if Lionblaze and Jayfeather didn't still keep her out of the loop (and for all the fussing they made about keeping it a secret, Lionblaze confesses his power to Cinderheart and Jayfeather doesn't even care).

Meanwhile Nightheart is angry he isn't orange and hates his mom for being exiled and the whole world has to stop for him. 🤪 And Bramblestar is simply so tortured by having an evil father, the only choice is to train with him and his evil half-brother and hide this from his wife! (But remember, it's bad when that witch Squirrelflight hides the parentage of the three from him, even when Blackstar and Leopardstar were still around after being complicit in the torture and killing of halfclan cats.) Why are these male characters sympathized with, even when they actively harm people (Nightheart forcing himself into Sunbeam's life by lying to everyone about being her mate without even asking her if she would be fine with that beforehand), Bramblestar (we all know what he does), but when Dovewing or any other female character is upset, people freak out and call them whiny brats or abusive for (checks notes) asking her partner if he loves her anymore after they argued multiple times in a book. Really makes you think! (Sorry this is so long, you just have based opinions!)

dovewing being characterized as this flighty airheaded vain popular girl stereotype in fanon is like. one of those biggest "we didnt actually read the books" things in the fandom. like theres so much fanart where shes grinning and giggling over the prophecy and shes besties with the trio and shes got preferential treatment, and then in the actual books shes basically the autistic kid no one actually likes. people really, REALLY overexaggerate that one scene where she snaps at ivypaw and brags. (and i dont wanna shit on amvs but i am forever side eying how the animation community handled dove back in the day. more than one person animated her getting murdered. normal.)

i do think its gotten better recently at least. but wow does it feel like at least one person on the writing team has a bone to pick

#it does also feel so insidious to me just how long the bramblesquirrel conflict was painted as ''equally kind of wrong''#the ppl who put words in squilfs mouth sometimes which. btw ill get to that when i read the book #and tbf part of it is that sometimes abuse isnt as easy to spot if youre primed to the mainstream version of it #like. bramble isnt a born evil wifebeater everyone can see coming from a mile away. hes a complex guy with his own insecurities #and his own goals and people he openly cares about. and even in some fanon stuff i see ppl kinda erase that part of him #(which i wont pretend im above- ive been trying to walk that line myself)#and that doesnt match how abusers are usually percieved by the public. or in this very series.#like. the main excuse for clear sky is literally ''hes sad his sister died and tried to save her! no one changes THAT much''#anyone can be an abuser. you could be an abuser. i could be an abuser. that doesnt mean that we ARE but we are capable of it #and the thing that catches ppl off guard is that abusers are really good at hiding who they are and theyre often charming #i often hear this account of abuse that goes something like ''my parent abused me but no one believed me bc theyre nice in public''#you dont know whats going on behind closed doors. and ik this is about funny kitties at the end of the day but its quite telling #so... yeah bramble has his nice moments. hes got his GREAT moments even. i love his relationship with his mom for example #but those moments dont mean that hes not capable of being worse. of being a monster to his loved ones #its why squilf keeps getting sucked back in. hes not a one dimensional asshole. hes capable of being kind to her.#and thats what makes his disgusting moments hit so much harder #wow ok i got off topic in the tags but yknow. idk i got feelings abt this matter as someone who's experienced toxic relationships

auchk it hurts so much and i have to pack it in to a pocket inside me that is too little and all the while i just want to scream in agony until it feels like my skull veins will burst. i want to sob and wail. but i know that version of me who lets it out, shes in me and she screams and wails and sobs on my behalf.

and what do i do to repay this debt? i make her shelter, too, in that tiny pocket in me where a million pains and gruesome woes reside, creating in me some kind of dense neutron star of abysmal hurt

BE NICE #static.soundz #sorry that last post was so directly inspired by seeing someone go can u guys be nice he is on a fucking nutbag schedule. which he is.#i dont think some people understand the insanity of comic production. and how much it takes a toll on you.#many have said and i will say it too: comics is a killing industry. it is a beautiful fun job. it is fulfilling. it will also destroy you.#the most common and easiest to use example is in fact the manga industry. they want chapters in a week. 20 page type chapters in a week.#A WEEK!!! and currently look at things like webtoon as well which also expect the same amount of pages. in a week. an issue in a week #is an insane demand. it is an unreasonable demand. it is scheduling that leads you to a crash and burnout and health issues #because it is fully finished polished pages. as much as i poke and complain about how some things look there #i am also highly aware of production schedules. even if some styles are not my taste that still doesnt mean it isnt insane work #and it's the same in american big industry comics too. it isnt weekly demand the way those are. but it's still an intense schedule #you are working on pages and can get behind years before those comics even hit shelves.#and as it becomes more individualized too as we lose the team element and work becomes more one person doing all pencils and inks #that schedule is a lot. it just is. it doesnt matter if theres more time in comparison to other parts of the industry #the point is that it is all very demanding and exploitative. there is a drive yourself to your grave mentality here and i've had ppl try #to shove that mindset onto my and my peers which is the worst thing possible to encourage. highly alarming and disheartening to encourage #impressionable students already so worried about making it to drive themselves to an early grave. abuse substances to get through work.#work excessive hours while you still can because when you hit your 30s youre gonna lose that ability #become bitter and prepared for rejection as opposed to success because this industry sucks!#it's just such an unhealthy depressing mindset. i've had more artists preach the exact opposite as that and more ppl have been trying to #shift over to valuing your time and health. but still a lot of people are in that other mentality. and it's very very very sad.#i am only a student doing very low stakes homework for classes. i have no industry experience. and i still get it taken out of me #to do fully fledged out pages in my style in one week. this is also just a thing for me bc certain personal factors just make it hard #but still. comics are fun. they are fun. they are fulfilling. they will lead you to so many fucking issues if you are not highly careful #there is a reason why so so so many fucking comic artists have very well known issues. why you hear about so many ppl with substance issues #artists with very poor mental health. when you are in comics this is how it is.#i am glad there has been a big shift in recent years towards taking care of yourself as an artist. and that more ppl try to value it so tha #things can hopefully change at large in a broader sense. but please remember. we are an exploited chew up spit out industry too.

#i wasnt able to sleep for ages last night and in my delirious tired state i was thinking ohh.. i dont thiunk my friends like me #:-(#and then i thought oh. well thats okay i like them i guess i can live with that. and now it keeps turning over in my head #its weird bc ik on some level its just insecurity. but it feels to me like fact so im not even like. anxious or sad abt it #its like the feeling is in another room. i dont think its within my ability to change. cant make ppl like me if they dont already innit #i mean i think im nice to ppl im not rude and i try not to cause anyone problems #maybe dislike is the wrong word i think maybe just neutral/indifferent. i dont think ppl tend to feel anything very strongly towards me #and something abt that is rly sad but in a distant way. i do care very deeply abt other ppl and like them a lot but im aware im not-#really emotionally accessible or trusting enough for people to feel like they have real connection with me #and i dont think im really in a place to be able to resolve that right now or at least not by myself bc its deeply rooted likely in trauma #it would take a lot of active digging + time from someone else i think + there isnt rly anyone in my life close to me #and tbh. even if i was in a place to do that kind of self work it ultimately doesnt really matter bc nothing will ever be enough for me #like im always going to be at least a little sad and dissatisfied socially bc thats just how it works. its not even worth thinking abt rly #not sure where im going with this my brain is so foggy today just turning it upside down and shaking the thoughts out #anyway #.diaries #.vent #<- i guess. not rly tho #just usual sunday blues. emails to send tmr and im very very tired

never again would i like to work on Halloween

#the bin #halloween is for spending alone or for getting absolutely wrecked and being qround a bunch of people #NOT for spending at work doing work being at work stamding at work walking around all day at work doing work at work #but hey. at least it was a very slow tuesday bc everyone was busy with halloween. so ill only have 1 tuesday left #looking forward to starting my new job. i actually kinda really enjoy customer service. i love interacting with people for short time #ofc people can be mean and bad but i can deal with that just fine. i get so much out of short nice interactions and those are discouraged #where i work now. i try to be nice and have friendly interactions as much as i can because its nice but overall my experience is just around #people but not interacting with them otehr than to ask them to please move. when i do interact with people im so nice and helpful and i like #doing it but its kinda bleh. idk. i know im prob gonna hate this job a lot of the time too but id like something different.#and honestly i think itll be good for me. my social anxiety and ability to interact with people is so much better than it was before #and like. it happened so shortly after starting this job. i had to do things so i did and now i know its ok. i have a better understanding #of how people behave and react to how i am and all that stuff. and i think itd be nice to be in an environment where i can be kinda jokey #im a silly person but i think ive cracked maybe 2 jokes total while working at this place for almost 6 months #i make like 12 jokes a day at least when i interact with other people. when i talk or tjink about stuff i just make jokes constantly #but i.dont feel like i can do that at this job. the people are nice but its just a different environment and my type of humor and #personality doesnt mesh well if im joking. i work well there but its kinda bleh for me #but my managers were very nice about my giving my 2 weeks so. and perfect timing because tomorrow im training someone #new to start the same job as me to help out. woulve been doing it anyway and theyd be tehre to fill in when im out suck but instead i #think theyll just replace me so it works out. and i like teaching peope how to do my job :>#me rambling abt my life. nobody cares to read this lol. its not matter. these posts are boring but it feels nice to post stuff like it #makes me feel less isolated even of nobody sees it. different from thping it into a private notes app #idk. i need to talk to people more
