I think one of the wildest and most frustrating things I kept getting told about Drizzt is that he's god's special boy and an amazing mary sue and then I read the crystal shard and he almost gets bodied by trolls, gets kicked around in the aftermath of a battlefield, and almost gets buried in an avalanche in the first book. he's poked and prodded like a freak of nature, people are hostile to him for existing and he tries to be extremely polite about it and stay out of everyone's way

in his prequels he is the most powerless person in his own narrative. the most courageous thing he can do and often does is run the fuck away and/or question something even when people tell him to shut the fuck up and stop doing it. he's not exceptional in how he was abused, because the abuse is explicitly institutional and happens to everyone in his age bracket. he's good at swords and it doesn't help him resolve any of his conflicts except the ones that are him literally fighting for his life. the few boons of grace he is given come from the decisions of other people who cared enough not to beat all his hopes and dreams and curiosity out of him before he went to indoctrination murder school

people keep insisting he's a mary sue and he can do no wrong and he's made no errors and i'm just looking at the actual text going "i don't know how this is some kind of mary sue special boy pastiche unless i'm missing some key thing that everyone else has brought with them to this reading"

Posting art online is so discouraging. I have the direct comparison of handing out the pride stickers irl - they're so cute, woah did you make those yourself, thank you so much here's stickers in return, so many people were brought joy by my art - and posting them online - 3 likes 1 reblog, dead.

This isn't to beg for interaction and more to say... if I had to start drawing all over again, in today's social media environment, I don't think I would manage.

Tumblr's friends/mutuals/reblog structure is breaking down, and while instagram used to be the place for artists and I was able to gain followers that enjoyed my art through the use of specific Hashtags, nowadays the feature to search by latest is removed and the algorithm punishes your harshly for being a small account or average at your skill.

Looking only at my social media, one should think I am getting worse and worse at art, I started out being quite good and worth seeing and 8 years later I have forgotten how to draw. This isn't true of course, I am improving. But there's no way to gain a kind word anymore, no artists at roughly the same level as me to find me and follow me for a friend through interaction. Nor am I able to search out people like me myself, tumblr is... tumblr (currently still the best option), and the algorithms of all other apps only recommend me the best and most entertaining.

Now I don't do good strategies. I still mainly use tags, nothing else. I don't post according to user schedules or make art to show off every single week, my art account is new and was dead for a while, i don't use fanart to draw people's attention. I don't know how to make tiktoks of my art - I aim to create pictures and be good at that, not make video content.

Of course I don't get much interaction. But the comparison: The same art, handed to people online and in real life, both for free, both by a stranger, is so striking. People are happy about your art, they like it, they really do, but by posting it it's rare to get that feeling anymore. I hope new artists keep drawing.

both a benefit and the biggest flaw of photography is that if you make a print that is essentially just an original. Which is great that you can reproduce your work infinitely at its maximum quality and everyone can have access to it. However, big artists just aren't going to release affordable prints of their work because of this exact same thing. Theres a lot of painters and print makers you can find that sell affordable reproductions but almost no big name photographers have their work up for sale like that. Its all limited editions 1/100 sort of stuff and it all costs thousands of dollars per print. I get it, art is expensive and we need money to survive but as a photographer myself it sucks so bad that i can't afford prints of my biggest inspirations work even though it would be so easy to set up for them.

#the valueing of art annoys me so much #i feel like in the long run you would make more money off small print sales like $50-100 per print even over selling a handful of $3000-500 #prints to a couple very rich collectors #and your work would go up in the homes of many people instead of most likley sitting in a storage container of some rich guy while he waits #for the price to raise to resell it #or it sits in a bland white mcmansion

Lmaoo. The first thing that popped into my head was this one scene from a show called 2 Broke Girls where one of the leads (Max) sits on a photocopy machine and prints out a 100 copies of her butt.

Asmo's totally done that. It started randomly when he was trying out camera angles in front of his mirror for fun and then boom, perfect butt picture. He's in absolute awe. Could his perfect ass look any more perfect!!?

He sends framed pictures of it to all of his brothers. Reactions vary from pretending they got no such gift, having no clue what the picture meant, and absolutely blowing in his face with anger. He's not discouraged though. His brothers may not have an appreciation for beauty, but he knew the real masterpiece his butt was.

Second time he hires a skilled painter and asks them to try and replicate "this fine ass." And on and on it goes, for an eternity and a half. Charcoal, acrylic, oil, quilling, nail polish, everything. He's got a nice butt. People should be able to appreciate it!
