Actually the implications of John also being bisexual are so fucking tasty to me because like. OG John has no support system and no protection against the world except his own perceived strength so he learns to ferret out anything that can possibly be seen as weakness to those around him and that includes any affection or attraction he might feel towards men because nothing screams "stay in your fucking closet" like spending all your time around a fringe subculture of serial killing doomsday preppers in the Midwest during the Reagan era.

By the time he notices Dean starting to look a little too long at boys his age, he's probably convinced himself that whatever he felt (still feels but ignores) was a temporary youthful indiscretion, and of course Dean can't afford those, doesn't get to have those, he's got to be a soldier. I haven't posted much in a long time because I was ashamed of having the ups and downs in quality from a lack of art education and experience, but there's nothing wrong with needing work on my fundamentals. I want to be more consistent about posting studies AND finished work. it's hard to work through in my head and heart, but it's ok to not be perfect. I am trying to work through that mindset rather than stagnate indefinitely. looking forward to having fun and having some learning experiences.

been slowly making my thru the vc books and i can say now, with certainty that the show is in fact superior in almost every conceivable way. i think nostalgia was clouding my judgment but apart from iwtv and tvl and maaaybe qotd....these books are fucking ridiculous

#yaz reads #yaz has thoughts #interview with the vampire #not to be mean but as a body of work they have zero structural integrity #each book is a long meandering mess of the most outlandish plot and the most contrived workaround established canon to suit her whims #she hates women. like deeply. #there's a disconnect between the character she thinks shes writing versus what ends up on the page re david talbot #the interpersonal relationships bar a few like lestat and louis and lestat and gabrielle and nicky are laughable #coz they never stay consistent. its like she's afraid of anyone actually hating lestat #even armands hate is blunted coz he's in love with him #plot points and character arcs are dropped entirely between books for no discernable reason #look i maintain book 1 and 2 are modern masterpieces esp book 1 #and book 3 is a fun romp #but the rest are wow some have nuggets of brilliance but are swallowed up the sheer absurdity of her plots .and i can do the absurd #i love the absurd but she treats it with such solemnity that it gets me out of the story again and again #there's obvs a huge following for the series as a whole and kudos to you who stuck by her but what was she on #when the plot is weak i can focus on the intra character drama and the characters are stale i can focus on the plot #when both are done abmysally!? #rolins and co had a great task ahead of them and i think they elevated the material #so good on them #and note this isnt me bashing her for her dark themes and subject matters i can handle all that and then some #vc is quite tame insofar as being dark for a gothic series #its everything else

#shit post #almoat 800 people are following me you all get to suffer for it :D #no but I have migraines every day #i wake up with them consistently #after an hour or two they go away for a bit #usually after Ive been awake 5 hours they come back #I can only take so many different OTC headache meds before it becomes dangerous #like #I already gave myself ulcers because of it #which #seriously ulcers dont even register on my pain scale i didnt even know I had them #the migraines arent my only issue just the one people have the easiest time understanding typically #theres also the light headedness #the near fainting sometimes when I wake up and move #the consistent nausea thats been around so long my hunger cues are permanently fucked up #the concerning weakness and general aches everywhere #BUT #my migraines dont feel AS BAD as they did over the weekend #SO THATS GOOD #its hurts rn though but it waited awhile to get to 'my skull is slowly fracturing' level so im proud of my body #also dont tell me to drink water I drink more water in a day than my entire generation does in a week im VERY hydrated

i’d talked a little about this before on twitter about diamant angst and if i’m doing alright (i’m fine just biochemistry major go brrrr) and i just remembered this:

and i wanted to think about this for a little bit. i’m going to try and not retread old ground, but that’s kind of impossible if i want to break him in a realistic way.

but i was mostly thinking about how easy it is to destabilise him. i might be woobifying him too much, but i swear, i’ve been through this rigamarole before with a variety of characters. i’ve hurt characters over and over and over again, testing their limits, watching them bend and potentially break, and diamant has keeled over the fastest. it’s kind of funny in a bit of a twisted way.

but i mean it: why does he bend to easily compared to others?

i think it’s because he Refuses to experience The Horrors, and so when something encroaches on that tenuously stretched self control, he simply cannot deal with anything new, so he shuts down. you’d think he’d have a fight response to new stressors (he is of brodia; if you can’t fight, then what kind of brodian are you?) but i think he’s gone past that point. he’s dealing with enough already as it is, just One More Thing just will set him off. he’s tired, overwhelmed, and bottles everything up because He Should Be Able To Deal With It.

there’s definitely an allegory of being undiagnosed neurodivergent in here somewhere but we don’t have time to unpack all that.

but since diamant is so easily burnt out (which, haha, funny fire trauma go brr), he’s just an easy target to picking at all of his weaknesses and flaws. diamonds have very predictable cutting planes, and if manage to hit one just right, the entire crystal will shatter.

something i’ve seen frequently in football circles especially with the rise of social media (where ppl engage with the sport in absolutely bizarre ways but that’s another topic for another day) is this longstanding obsession with ‘(winning) mentality.’ how is it quantified? how do you prove its existence? how consistent must it be for a club to acquire this ‘mentality?’ it’s just bonkers to me because you’d assume that every club and every fanbase would want to win, just some a) have better resources to do so or b) some overperform/underperform as is the case with any sport which leads to drawing some kind of conclusions about this ‘mentality’ or c) some fanbases just have a better time rationalising a potential loss within the external factors which of course also leads to drawing conclusions about this ‘mentality.’ i guess my problem with it is just that it’s become such a buzzword where teams get either praised or insulted for their mentality when it’s so subjective and influenced by other factors too (doing well, doing badly, general trajectory of the club, personal satisfaction with individual achievements, media opinion, etc).
