How many times does Kagome ‘Sit’ Inuyasha?

Since I always complain about the anime making a lot of things worse, including Kagome’s use of the sit command, I decided to back up what I’m saying with some actual data.

So I present to you: The ultimate Osuwari/Sit count. 

Let’s start with the manga, the real canon. I went over all the chapters, including the bonus chapter 559 / Since Then, and here are the results:

Total ‘Sit’ count in the manga: 56

Highest number of sits in a row: 8  → Reason: Inuyasha was trying to destroy the well using a boulder (chapter 23) Other times she used the beads repetitively:  4 times in chapter 249 →  After he tried to pick up a fight with her when she was in a bad mood because they met Kikyo. 4 times in chapter 339 →  After he got angry at her for being ‘too friendly’ with Koga and she called him out for also being too friendly with Kikyo. 2 times in chapter 327  →  After he went to see Kikyo alone and she thought he was lying to her when he said Kikyo wasn’t there.

I added this because people usually say Kagome sits him “every time he annoys her a little” and I don’t think that’s true. Because of this I also gathered a (subjective) list of reasons why Kagome used the command and counted the number of sits associated. 

Main reasons: he was being violent, or he was being rude/insensitive towards her or others. 

Now, let’s take a look a the anime 🙂 I didn’t rewatch the anime to make this, I watched The Ultimate Inuyasha Sit Compilation video and double checked some episodes myself. Shoutout to zeragon21 on Youtube for making this compilation, it saved me a lot of time! This includes all animated content of the Inuyasha series, so the original anime (episode 1-167) & The Final Act (episode 168-193) and then the 4 movies and the spinoff Hanyo no Yashahime. 

Total ‘Sit’ count in the anime: 154

Highest number of sits in a row: 22 → Reason: Trying to stop a drunk Sango from kissing Inuyasha

Other times she used the beads repetitively: 16 times in episode 109  →  Same as chapter 249 where she used it 4 times but the anime made it worse 11 times in episode 96 →  Because Inuyasha told Jinenji that Kagome has a “small heart” 10 times in Movie 1 →  Because Inuyasha didn’t compliment her cooking and wanted to eat ramen instead 8 times in episode 11 →  Same as chapter 23  6 times in episode 98 →  Because Inuyasha didn’t compliment her cooking, again 5 times in episode 158 →  Same as chapter 327 where she used it 2 times but the anime made it worse

Conclusion: The Inuyasha animated content added almost 100 non-canon ‘Sit’ commands! 

This is honestly, so, so much worse than I expected, lol. I also wanted to note some other differences that would explain why anime viewers find the sit command a bigger problem than manga readers. The first one being the force / intensity of it. In the anime the command will often be strong enough to create a crater, while in the manga there’s usually a “moosh” sound effect and if she uses it repetitively Inuyasha will just stay stuck in a crouched position. 

Another thing I’ve noticed while watching the compilation is that in the anime (especially the dub) Inuyasha often complains about it. He’ll scream/grunt when she sits him, call her heartless, ask her why she’s sitting him. This doesn’t really happen in the manga. He will usually say “Kagome temee!” (Damn you Kagome!) or say “Stop that!” if she’s using it repeatedly (which only happened twice).   

There’s also some added scenes in the anime that portrayed Kagome in a negative light in regards to the sit command. The first one being in the third movie “Swords of an Honorable Ruler”, where Inuyasha asked Kagome to remove the beads and she ignored him, and later she “tricked” him into putting them back on despite his complaints. The other is from the filler episodes 147-148 “The Tragic Love Song of Destiny” where Kikyo created the subjugation beads using the word “beloved” as the trigger word, but decided not to put them on him because she saw he was nice. Sunrise clearly added this to imply that Kagome should have taken the beads off Inuyasha after she realized they weren’t truly necessary (since he doesn’t want to kill her or innocents) and used this to add fuel to the love triangle discourse. In the manga the beads are never really talked about, they’re just a slapstick gag that isn’t meant to be taken too seriously, just like Sango slapping Miroku or Inuyasha punching kids. 

Conclusion: the reasons why the Sit command is worse in the anime than in the manga, is that there is almost 100 added Sits, the force of the command is way worse, Inuyasha complains about it a lot more, and Sunrise tried to make it seem like a bigger deal than it really is by adding certain scenes.

Unfortunately there is no official map that shows for what's owned in the series but there are some for real life!

The dog demon clan hailed from Saigoku. That's the "Western lands" of Japan. Kaede's Village is where Tokyo is to this day.

Ironically now for modern times there's something called the "Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage" they go through the 33 Buddhist temples on the Kansai region of Japan. Saigoku was really an old term that was also sometimes pronounced as "Saikoku" but today it is called "Kansai" ! Just to note there's a Mistranslation in the Viz media English version of the Yashahime manga that said Taishou came from China but it's actually Saigoku, which is Western lands of Japan it was even addressed on Takashi Shiina's Twitter page. In Yashahime manga chapter 23 they're at Sakai. In feudal Japan Sakai is the center of commerce.

Taishou died in the Kamakura period within a castle in Kamakura city. That's 1185-1333 There's been many changes on the earth since those times as well as tsunamis and even seasonal cycles because of tilts. Japan has certainly shrunk over the years because these situations. We also know he's been alive since the Heian period 794-1185 because of how he uses the Dono honorific when talking to Zero and also within the timeline. Midoriko and the Jewel was created in the Heian period according to the InuYasha profiles book timeline.

Kirinmaru, Riku and Rion are from mainland China, yes. In fact Kirinmaru is based on the Qilin of myths and legends which originate from China which were first attested in 5th century BCE which ironically lines up with what Katsuyuki Sumisawas said in Animage May 2021 about him being alive since the era of myth and that he may have seen Buddha or Jesus Christ in the Flesh but not Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit.

There are some maps within the series, like Mount Hakurei, Horai Island from the fourth movie. Also the video game counterparts which were all supervised by Rumiko-sensei. - Admin

They say a look is worth a thousand words and in this case they applied that saying very well.

Another scene that had a slight modification and that alone is enough to change a whole context.

This time we go to chapter 23 of the anime "Kagome's Voice and Kikyo's Kiss" while the manga covers chapter 75-78.

Almost at the end of the chapter after Kagome prevents Kikyo from taking InuYasha to the Underworld the three hold a brief conversation and eventually Kikyo disappears into the dark night led by their soul-hunting snakes.

Before this, Kikyo asks InuYasha if Kagome is more important to him (than her)

In the animation, after this question, InuYasha and Kagome look at each other with a slight blush on their faces, hinting that probably it is and if not, that they both have feelings for each other, it culminates in the same way, with Kikyo leaving and InuYasha yelling his name.

In the manga it's a little different because Kikyo asks InuYasha the same question and he never looks at Kagome, in fact his eyes stay all the time on Kikyo, he never stops watching her until she finally disappears.

You could say it's a small change but this is another proof that the producer of InuYasha's anime had quite repelus to Kikyo and Kagome appreciated her too much, in her own words "Kagome was a heroine, a pure and light-filled woman" while Kikyo was someone "dark and full of anger, related to death and a woman difficult to understand" no wonder Rumiko replicated Ikeda's comments about Kagome because for all the hand he put in when animating the manga, it fit perfectly with his comments, to maintain that image that they had created him in the animation, while Kikyo who in Rumiko's words, "She is the center axis of the story, InuYasha ends and begins with Kikyo" happened to be just the jealous and nosy ex who got into the incipient relationship of inuYasha and kagome.

hello! 23, NB here looking to do a wide variety of fandom roleplays. no minors allowed. 18+ only! i am an advanced literate to novella literate writer who can write up to ten paragraphs at a time if we're deeply immersed in plot. that being said, i work a full time job and i'm there most days of the week. at work my responses and response times may be limited, just bear with me! i also may only give two to three paragraphs while i am working, please do not pressure me for more. if i don't get back to you within three days, please feel free to send me a message, just do not spam me all the time, that will only result in me getting frustrated and not wanting to write anymore.

all of that being said, let me get into what i am after! so when doing fandom roleplays, i will ONLY do double ups! this way it is fair on both ends. i prefer to do oc x canon for my side of things but i am not opposed to doing canon x canon for your end if you want it. places i write are mostly discord--but i will write on tumblr too. i just don't prefer it over discord. i also love to talk and try to make friends outside of roleplay! i enjoy chatting about our characters and ships. i make headcanons and will go on and on all day about our writes if you'll let me. I also want to offer the warning that i cannot write a slowburn to save my life. i get far too impatient and it sometimes offsets the mood. I adore hurt/comfort, angst, romance and fluff. i am also totally fine with NSFW! darker themes are also alright, but talk things over with me first! please please please no text talk in the writing. be punctual and use proper grammar when we are writing. no use of “u, urs, tho, nite,” or any variety when we are roleplaying. that will make me want to quit writing with you. other than that i promise i am not intimidating! my fandom list will be below. some of them i have high muse for, others not so much but i will write them.talk to me and we can figure it out together. Fanfic ask game, 23 least favorite fic?

My least favorite story I've ever written was one of my very first. I won't put the name here because it's still lurking in some obscure part of the internet, and I don't want it coming back to haunt me. It was a very self indulgent Inuyasha fic that I started when I was 13 or 14 about two friends who find themselves randomly transported to the Inuyasha universe. I never finished it. I think I wrote about 6 chapters? I deleted it from FFN, but it still exists on another fic site that I lost my login info for. Can't do anything about that except pretend it doesn't exist.
