Alex doesn't spare a moment to ask who did this or how when he finally finds Arinn.

He nearly misses the familiar voice feebly calling his name. The desperate sound comes from a fallen stack of paperwork, shoved aside in Alex’s frantic search of the office.

He was being kept in the musty old mansion somewhere, Alex knew it. But he didn’t expect to find him here, and definitely not like this.

Alex drops to his knees and carefully removes the strewn items one by one, following the sound of muffled, ragged breaths. Finally, near the bottom, he finds a manila envelope that has crumpled under the weight of the pile.

Inside lies Arinn, smaller than a doll. He’s sprawled on his back with his hair a mess around him. His small form heaves as he gasps for air; his skin is flushed from the heat of being smothered so long. Above his head someone has written Specimen 27 in black sharpie.

Who and how can wait. Alex curls his hand carefully around Arinn’s little body and pulls him up from the paper, too quickly. He lifts only a couple inches, something pulls taut, Arinn screams.

Horrified, Alex lets go of Arinn. His shaking hands nearly drop the folder in the process, so he quickly sets it on the stable surface of the desk and sits in the chair.

Arinn is writhing in pain and Alex’s stomach lurches to know he caused it. Not now, he tells his despondent mind, you can beat yourself up later.

As gently as he can Alex turns Arinn onto his side and -

oh.

Of course he didn’t budge. Not with his tail, more vulnerable than ever in his shrunken state, stapled to the inside of the envelope.

Three staples - one at the base that has fractured the largest tailbone, one in the middle that has broken that bone entirely, and one at the end, which is so fragile that the staple has left it bent at an unnatural angle.

“Oh, babe,” Alex breathes. He can’t begin to imagine the pain Arinn must be in.

While Arinn catches his breath again Alex finds a pair of scissors and carefully cuts away all of the cardstock except the sliver attached to Arinn’s tail. It does nothing to relieve the pain, but at least this way he can scoop his boyfriend’s trembling body into his hands and cradle him to his chest. It rumbles beneath him as Alex says, over and over,

“I’m here. I’ve got you.”

The sound of his voice and smell of his shirt soothe Arinn almost instantly. The gentle touch of Alex’s thumb rubbing his back gives the touch-starved incubus the energy to open his eyes.

No sooner has he opened them than they blur with tears at the sight of Alex’s warm brown eyes looking back. He truly believed that Alex might never find him - that he would die like this and be discarded, and Alex would never know...

Arinn curls up against Alex’s chest, solid and warm and right above his beating heart. It’s the safest place Arinn has ever known. He sobs into the worn cotton of his t-shirt and lets Alex pour comforting words and touches over him. It’s too much touch at once and he knows it; he lets it overwhelm him until he blacks out, finally escaping the pain.

Arinn wakes tucked into Alex’s jacket pocket, loosely wrapped in a microfiber cloth. One of Alex’s keychains - a squishy sauropod from the natural history museum - is in his arms. He squeezes it tight.

He wakes when his tail is jostled as Alex carries him up the steps to their apartment. Alex is slow, cautious, nothing like the way he usually charges up them, taking them two at a time. But any movement is too much movement for his ruined tail.

He wakes in agony when Alex manages to remove the staples. Careful as he was, there was no way to do so without hurting Arinn. He mumbles apologies and as soon as Arinn’s mangled tail is free he smooths something cool onto it with his thumb. It quickly numbs, leaving Arinn shuddering. Alex’s kisses his head, tells him he’s brave.

Arinn wakes splinted, bandaged, and bathed, lying on Alex’s bare chest and covered by a soft, clean hand towel. He rises in falls in a soothing wavelike motion from Alex’s slow breathing. The days of searching have finally caught up to him; he is sleeping soundly.

Though his tail still throbs dully, Arinn is at ease, too. For now he can’t be bothered to think about the days of painful healing to come or the matter of returning to his usual size.

For now it is more than enough to be home, where he is safe and loved.

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying the most.

Ongoing Series - Thai

My School President (Fri YT) 2 of 10 - this show is gloriously ridiculous and charming and exactly my preferred kind of BL. Tinn has NO GAME, but man do I love a whipped boy. Anything that harkens this hard to Love Sick gets my vote.

609 Bedtime Story (Fri WeTV) 3 of 11 - It is nice to see Ohm play a character with more animated facial expressions. I’m liking this show a great deal, but I am really not wild about time loops. Crazy to see Stud & Sam on screen together again. Holy Friend Zone flashbacks batman.

Between Us (Sun iQIYI) 5 of 12 - it continues to be great, I continue to worry about the fact that apparently only Taiwanese BL considers therapy a viable option for boys who actually, ya know, NEED it. WATCH ALONG HERE.

Ai Long Nhai (Mon iQIYI) 11 of 12 - More nothing is happening, but the nothing is shirtless again, so I’m good.

Remember Me (Sun Gaga) 9 of 12 - Well, the sweet little BL with Gun & Golf is great. Bummer they only take up 20% of screen time. Golf’s parents are the best. That’s all I got.

I Will Knock You (Fri Gaga) 4 of 12 - it’s boring, what can I say?

My Tooth Your Love (Taiwan Fri Viki) 10 of 12 - everything about this show is so stinking cute, even the crumbs are adorbs. So many smiley kisses! (my 2nd fav kiss, the 1st one being a crying kisses, I’m warped). Speaking of, is it just me or is the actor playing Alex 1000% hotter when he smiles? Please no Doom next week, Taiwan? Pretty please?

Oh! My Assistant (Korea Thurs Viki) 3-4 of 8 - Amusingly, I’m referring to it as OhMyAss in my notes. I do love this one, it has such a Japanese feel to it. The episode titles alone are hilarious. Plus, kisses already? Korea? What’s going on? Meanwhile, this is my favorite bisexual awakening in cinematic history. It made me incandescently happy.

Happy Ending Romance (Korea Thurs Gaga & Viki) 5-6 of 8 - Look, I can watch Leo be pensive & moody until the cows come home (and have in half of Vixx’s MVs*) but it is getting a little tiresome here. PLUS: this is a KBL they don’t have a lot of time to waste even on his level of evil beauty. I think this would have worked better as a romance if the Writer had known the Editor in (at least) a friendly way in the past/at school as well - so there was more established dynamic to their instant affection and shacking up. Apart from my qualms around the romance thread, the plot is actually pretty good. It’s very angsty and tense for something so simple, which suits this length of show. *I guess what I am saying is if Korea ever did a remake of KinnPorsche, Leo MUST play Vegas.

Choco Milk Shake (Korea Strongberry Tues YT) 10 of 11 - Pain. Argh. It was cruel to send them back, to all of us. Is there an ep 11, or is that a BTS and this was the end? In which case... in Strongberry I no longer trust. I guess we find out next week how shaken my faith is.

Eternal Yesterday AKA Eien no Kino (Japan Thurs Gaga & Viki) 8fin -Fortunately I have no faith at all in Japan, I expect pain from them. So here’s your final review of this one:

Smart boy in love with zombie incubus, keeps him alive with sex. Japan, king of thirst, gives us both that and PAIN: these 2 are drowning in yearning and loss. Careful with this one - you break it, you bought it, and it'll break you... wide open just to see what color your guts are. After watching, you too might be walking around alone, forgotten, and wondering why no one understands your loss. Not only does it not end happily, it ends hopelessly. That’s an automatic 2/10 from me. No exceptions and NOT RECOMMENDED.

Sure, it may actually be brilliant, but it hurt me and I’m mad about it.

It’s Airing But I’m Not Watching It

War of Y (Thai Gaga) 20 eps - it’s just all too much for me.

2 Moons 3 (Thai Mon ??) 10 eps - Possibly a future binge watch. Rumor is it’s banal.

Semantic Error movie (Viki) the repackage did have some nice added footage but I wasn’t wild about some of the new scene cut choices. Still, not substantial enough changes for me to deeply lean one way or the other. I prefer the original but that might just be because that’s how I consumed it first. *shrug*

GAP the series (Sat YT) is a classic office set romance. WATCH IT! It’s GL and this studio needs our support! I’m enjoying it but not chronicling my journey. (Also, the stairs are back.)

Dec 16 - Candy Color Paradox AKA Ameiro Paradox from Japan, Gaga, 8 eps - A stakeout throws Onoe, a reporter, together with photographer Kaburagi. Monster AU!

My overall thoughts on what kind of monster/other roll different characters might play in an au where various monsters just roam free. Just something quick I wrote for funsies. Not beta'd or anything.

Bailey + LIs (besides Avery)

700+ words under the cut.

Bailey The Caretaker

Fae aren’t really known for getting too involved in human affairs, but after walking a little too close to the edge of human society, Bailey’s gained interest. They take more than your money now, not that you know that. They’ve stolen your whole life so quickly you’re not quite sure when it all went to shit. You turn in your weekly rent and you go out into town to get back to work. The streets are more colorful recently, and the air smells a little sweeter. You’re not sure why, but you don’t question it.

Robin The Orphan

While I wanna say Robin at least starts as entirely human, I think it’d be fun if they got mixed up with demons while looking to make a pact to ensure PC’s protection. You’ve seen less and less of Robin these days, and they seem different when you do meet. They’re a little pushier, there’s an edge to them that you haven’t seen before. They seem happy though, so you try not to push it.

Whitney The Bully

Look I know a lot of people would probably go incubus/succubus for Whitney, but here me out on vampire Whit. Whitney’s popular, devious, a total dick who gets away with whatever they want. Vampire’s are a modern classic, kinda like the stereotype Whitney’s character is based on.

So just imagine vampire Whitney who wins everyone over with their seemingly supernatural charm, vampire Whitney who’s just too perfect at everything they do without trying. Everything seems normal until you get too close. Their eyes are such a deep shade of red they’re almost black, and their nails and teeth are just sharp enough to be unsettling. Every time you’re together they insist on making you bleed, and you’re not sure you can blame it on just sadism.

Kylar The Loner

Kylar descended from a long line of witches, born into a powerful and influential coven. They’ve been training since they were young, but they just don’t seem to hold the same amount of power their family does. They’re a master with potions though, always coming up with powerful new concoctions. They haven’t told anyone about how they’ve been using unsuspecting townies to test their potions. There’s a specific one they’ve been meaning to give you, but they haven’t perfected the formula yet. Apparently it's supposed to help you with your studies, you’re not entirely sure if you buy that though.

Sydney The Faithful/Fallen

I wanted something for Sydney that wasn't the classic angel or demon trope while still fitting with their character arc, sorry if its kinda out there. Sydney’s human, at least they were. The temple's guidance has brought them a gift of sorts. Sydney can tame and even control the beasts around town, but the ability itself can be quite draining for a human so they try not to use it often. Over time, it changes them. Bit by bit, the color being drained from their body over time and repeated use of their newfound abilities, leaving them an almost wraith-like appearance. You don’t know exactly what the temple did, but you begin to think Sydney isn’t too different from the very beasts they control.

Eden The Hunter

I think Eden would be a druid, less focused on hunting the animals of the forest and more intent on the monsters that trespass. They’re very set in tradition, and while they’re not the type to openly worship the forest and the creatures that make their home here, they do protect it and plan to do so till they draw their final breath. They won’t force you to partake in most of their routine, but they do expect you not to stray too far from their cabin. Eden’s already learned all the lessons the forest has to teach, and they won’t allow you to follow such a dark path. So stay home, yeah?

Alex The Farmhand

Alex isn’t anything too special, their mother was a witch but the gift never seemed to pass onto them. What little power they do have they use to help out around the farm, charm the occasional steed that’s gotten a bit too wild, enchant the fertilizer for the crops. They only really use their magic for convenience, but you can usually find them studying their mother’s grimoire when they have free time. They never really seemed to get anywhere with it before, but you’ve been helping them with their studies recently. Nothing too crazy, just helping them annotate things over a late night cup of tea, but it seems to be working. At least that’s what you tell Alex when they ask, even if it isn’t really true.

I recently had a chat with my friends about the inclusivity of my designs and that reminded me that I have not properly shared what my HC for each design is, so I'm doin that! As well as small headcanons!

*forewarning, I also have alt designs which are different ethnicities but that doesn't overtake from each one as I do switch between their uses. Also this will update as time goes on.

•Sam is Latino in his first design, he's Afro-latino in one of his alternate designs and his newer alternate design is Navajo because I was sent something by @autisticempathydaemon where Sam and Lovely are siblings and I'm committing to it.

•Darlin'/Darren (he/they) is Japanese-American while his first alt design, Daryl, is African-american (of caribbean descent) while a newer design will be Chinese-latino.

•Lasko is a mixed Asian-American (He's Japanese & Desi)

•Gavin is a incubus, yes, but he does present as a dark-skinned desi man in my head

•Avior is Vietnamese

•Milo is afro-italian

•FL/Fern (they/them) is Caribbean afro-hispanic (their dad is black, their mom is from Cuba but immigrated from Venezuela)

•Asher is Latino (C last name is Castillo)

•David is Bedouin Arab (both of his parents are immigrants from Egypt) - Additionally I fucked around in my headcanons and he shifts into a giant jackal instead of a wolf

•Vincent is of Sri-Lankan descent, I die on this hill

•William is a black man - He is from France but immigrated to New Orleans before moving to Dahlia

•Damien is Rroma/Rromani

• Caelum is black

•Sweetheart/Sadhil is desi-american (he/they) - Their parents are immigrants - they're very disconnected from their cultural roots outside of knowing how to cook dishes they picked up from his mom

•Lovely/Logan (they/them) is Navajo/Native American - they're an ex-foster kid who never got adopted fully and they don't know their parents cuz they were put in the system at an early age. Their alt design, Landon Vale (he/they) is mixed (afro-polynesian)

•Huxley is chinese-american

•Angel/Alex (he/she/they) is mixed African-American - I've also headcanoned them as Guy's older sibling!

•Baaabe/Avery(she/he) is Vietnamese-American - She's half-siblings w Ollie and rocks romantic goth fashion.

•Quinn is white - also had a weird situationship with Darren that in their mutually destructive relationship before they cut him off.

•Christian is white

•Bright Eyes/Bea Bright (she/they) is dark-skinned and African-American

•Fred is desi-latino because I say so, that's all I need to say

•Alexis is Persian - oddly enough and I've explained it to my peeps and I'm explaining it now because her being Persian is an active decision to make commentary in the way that I've written her versus how she's generally percieved and how quickly people are willing to throw WOC with flaws into the role of a villain

•Starlight/Sama Latif (they/them) is mixed Assyrian/Iraqi

• Geordi is mixed African-Caribbean and is of Garifuna descent

• Cutie/Cara Teller (she/they) is Afro-korean and that's for a good ass reason, because simply put, Asian dad trauma especially while being raised female

•Morgan is Afro-latino because I simply wanna make a "we don't talk about Bruno reference", I think it could be funny–I think

•Seer/Apollo Sanders (he/him) is mixed (mayan-indigenous/African-american) - Apollo's namesake also has the gift of prophecy and his last name, Sanders, is derivative from Seers's cat, Sandy from @castleaudios which is based on the oracle Cassandra that was cursed not to be believed...by Apollo.
