First week of school is in the books! Must say, I thought a lot during the week, "This time last year, we were in Jamaica." I don't think I need to go back there but I did have a good time and I'm glad we went. I have the z flip four after being an iphone user for a decade (along with an iphone). Here are my thoughts on each.

In terms of cameras, iphone is miles ahead of android. But with customization, android is king. My jaw nearly hit the floor at being able to customize my keyboard.

The android operating system isn’t as straightforward as that of iOS, but android does add many extra features that iphone doesn’t have.

No matter which team you side with, data switching is a nightmare! Make sure you have a cord to help you so you don’t struggle like I did!

The keys on iPhones keyboard are thicker than that of android, and in terms of personal preference, that was a big win for iphone.

But!!! I added a language on my android (korean) and was offered several options for keyboard design! It was astonishingly beautiful!

The cover screen that is unique to the z-flip is incredibly sophisticated. I loved that feature before I ever considered getting an android. It can take pictures, make calls, do Samsung pay, play music, and more. The versatility is unreal.

Also the portability one ups iphone by a mile.

But in terms of durability, iphone is winning. I’ve heard too many stories of cracked screens to believe my good fortune with them will last.

Hallelujah for insurance.

I love the themes that galaxy hosts. My wallpaper can move on its own! It’s just beautiful! Apple needs to jump on that bandwagon asap.

One of the things that really bothered me with the flip was the fingerprint sensor. A lot of times because of being a frequent iphone user I find myself resting my finger on the lock button. With it as a fingerprint sensor, it brought some chaos to my day.

I prefer apple’s notification style as opposed to android’s. After changing the notification style I felt slightly better but I often got the sense that I was frequently missing something.

The font style is slightly different on websites between the two of them. Neither one is better, I’m just saying this so that if anybody else has a weird sense of dysphoria about it, they know they aren’t crazy.

The flexibility with the z flip is insane. I love the multiple camera angles. But that ability to flip will leave an indent in the screen, so you should be prepared to have a bit of a scare if you’re an iphone user who feels that divot for the first time.

In terms of battery life, iphone is it. I have had the flip for less than twelve hours. It’s needed to charge twice. My iphone only needed one charge.

Final Thoughts:

I got the z flip in order to get outside my comfort zone and grow more open minded after a decade of iphone. I do not regret buying it. I don’t believe one is actually superior to the other, because they are both great phones but for different reasons. Depending on what you need the phone for, one or the other can be ideal to suit your needs. If you want portability, more options for customization, and a sophisticated cover screen, the Z flip is absolutely for you. If you’re looking for durability, a great camera, and excellent battery life, the iphone is for you. And if you’re lucky as I am, you can experience the best of both.

I hope this gives other people a bit of insight into what they can expect from the other party!

Here are three photos I screenshot'd from Kiiara's music video "I Still Do" and edited in Samsung Gallery and then used a different app to create her name on each photo. It took forever to get her biting her lip and I didn't use other shots because they could be seen as too sexual and while I wanted to show her beauty and sexiness but I didn't want that to be the focal point of the photo's. I wanted to show her raw power and the emotional aspect of her music in them.

I have schizophrenia and I was in psychosis when I had a breakthrough in my hidden emotions for my ex girlfriend Monica.

And it was when covid-19 was rearing its ugly head and I was really worried about her because she used to have asthma and might still, I didn't kno. It culminated in me talking to her voice in my head and working out the emotional issues I had about her with the personality imprint I had of her in my head.

She was absolutely fucking pissed off with me and I just talked it out with her. Every 12 hours she reset and was angry with me again but less so and I made her happy until she actually was happy then I asked her out again and asked her to marry me like I originally wanted to do back in 2005.

I created two extra months in my mind to do this. I have no idea how much time actually passed but the calendar says one night but fucking with my sense of time by staying up on meth caused that to happen.

It all started with me just giving up on life and I was laying in my room for 5 days surrounded by darkness stopping breathing in my sleep ready to die and she showed up to laugh at me and I realized that she was still mad at me and like it was said in the movie "Dirty Work" that a woman has to care in order to be mad at you. So I revived instantly and I got up off of the bed and stood up and suddenly I saw the light of daylight and it was like 2:00 pm and I had the chance to win her over since she was there.

So I did 50 first dates in calming her down and making her happy before she finally giggled in happiness from the start. "50 First Dates" was very important to me because we tried to watch that movie like 50 times but made love instead and then one night I said "let's not have sex and actually watch the movie" and it was an incredibly romantic night and we made love after it was over with incredible passion. I told her that I'd do that if I had to, that I'd win her over every fucking day if that's what it meant to be with her.

So I fulfilled that promise at that time. It could have been her spirit coming to me because of what was happening in the world and I took the chance to fix things between us even if it wasn't the real Monica it felt like it and I started my "I still love Monica" media campaign on my Instagram with the full knowledge that I would most likely be rejected and laughed at but it was too important to me to send that message out to her so I proceeded with reckless abandon. I made like 50 pictures out of one of us together, one of two pictures of us because I didn't want my picture being taken as a teenager.

Then it progressed to an over 7 hour long Spotify playlist of songs that detailed my life the year before I met her until the year I made the playlist with total honesty in the songs I included even if it made me look bad.

I detailed my life with her then what happened after and I included songs that represented the women I was with after her and the emotional turmoil I experienced and my drug addiction including my overdose and when I ended up in my own version of "Snuff" by Slipknot when I was wearing an exact copy of the pants she wore when I was with her in clothes that she would steal from me. Those pants made the women in Edmonton almost crash their cars as they drove by checking me out!

My covid-19 became about my love for this woman I had not spoken to as friends and lovers since 2005 and trying to make her happy. All because I really listened to "Feels" by Kiiara and it changed my whole psychosis around away from being about gangsters tryna draft me into their militia into how I wanted to marry the biggest love of my life but I fucked it all up and lost everything and how I just haven't been happy ever since then.

It was one huge emotional rollercoaster that I'm still not quite done with.

I really hope that Kiiara felt something from this and that Monica knos how I feel even if she just laughs at my stupidity.

It was what I needed to experience.

I just got my Samsung Z Fold 3 a day ago and so far shits been... Interesting... 😎

Obtaining the device!

So I ordered it unlocked and lavender straight from Samsung and I really liked their deals and payment plan options, particularly their 4 payment plan (splitting the cost into 4 payments, one every two weeks) so I don't have to get stuck with a 24 month commitment but I also don't have to fork over $1000 bucks upfront!

(Plus Samsung has lots of bonus deals, like they threw in a pair of galaxy live buds for free. They don't come with the phone as a default, but just something they threw in to sweeten the pot a bit more, and I kinda like these beans, I feel like they are way more comfortable than my gen 3 airpods and somehow feel like they won't give me tinnitus as bad as some other earbuds.

First impressions compared to last phone

The phone itself is interesting. I got a case with a ring on it and gave up my popsocket so I could utilize the wireless charging capabilities. It charges easy, though I am mourning the loss of my beloved aux cable port!! 😣

My last phone was a Samsung Galaxy A51 4G

The aux cable from my phone to my car has been my 1# favorite way to enjoy music, and even though my car has Bluetooth option, in the past I've been hesitant to use it because whenever I did in my siblings car, there would be a solid couple seconds of lag with YouTube videos and with pausing/playing music on Spotify, but maybe a better phone with a mightier processor might help with that!

But it is so much faster and the screen is really beautiful, it's fun to just watch it flex it's really cool

Also I really super love the fingerprint sensor being on the side of the phone and not on the screen!! I'm a Cheeto eating being!!! I don't wanna smudge my screen more than I have to!! (Also it's way quicker than waiting for your screen to turn on, register your thumbprint, only for you to have to reposition so it can read it again, etc)

Plus I love being able to close it and feel like the screen is protected from whatever's in my pocket, and not have to worry about accidently leaving the screen on and accidentally typing shit and draining the battery in my pocket!

An ADHDers perspective....

I REALLY LIKE TOUCHING THE CREASE!!!!

You'd be surprised how feeling the crease in the smooth plastic is like stimming sensation!! Like I just really like touching it and feeling the space where the top and bottom squares meet. The plastic is really smooth and soft and my brain just really likes the feeling of running my thumb over it.

Plus, the crease gives me a good idea of where my thumb is on the screen spacially. I think that's a good thing just because it is quite a tall phone, so knowing where the middle is just by touchjng it makes me instinctively want to grip it at or below the crease. Personally it makes me feel like I have a more solid grip on the phone.

Also just the act of opening and closing the phone or just bending it is almost a stimming sensation for me. Its just fun to hold it at a 90 degree angle like a Sci Fi star trek device, to watch something while it's on the wireless charger, or just to prop it up on my desk vertically.

THE OUTSIDE SCREEN

I dunno about you, but I think this works wonders for keeping me from getting lost in my phone when I'm just checking a notification. I glance at the cover screen, and make the active choice whether or not I wanna open up the phone and engage with it or not, which is WONDERFUL and keeps me from zoning out for an hour on my phone not even remembering what I was looking for in the first place.

The same goes for the time and the weather widget and timers and pausing and playing music.

Also phone speakers are GOOD AND LOUD!

Closing thoughts!!!

The battery is a tad lacking but I'm getting a magsafe battery pack to compensate.

It's hard to say this any other way, but, only buy this phone if you WANT a folding phone! If you feel like opening it every time would annoy you or whatever else, then this isn't the phone for you.

On the other hand if opening and closing it would bring you joy, then this is a good phone for you. It runs really well. The only downfall would be the shorter than average battery life, but there are settings you can adjust to compensate and it will last you just fine.

We can either stabilize the economy (by forgiving debts, so that producers can pay for necessities and go on producing); or we can stabilize finance (by coercing debtors into destroying their lives in order to keep up on payments):

To make a good digital arm-breaker, you need always-on network connectivity, a device that people really depend on, and a strong presumption that the device has core software that its owner is never allowed to remove.

Basically, a smartphone.

Mobile carriers were early to this party. They collaborated with device manufacturers to create a "subsidized phone" market. They would "give" you a phone in exchange for a long-term, abusive contract, and then repo it by terminating service if you missed payments.

This was only possible because the manufacturers helped, creating phones that could be locked to a single network, so you couldn't un-repo your phone by sliding in someone else's phone.

They relied on the "anti-circumvention" laws that the music industry lobbied for in the late 90s (like Section 1201 of the DMCA) to make it a felony to unlock these phones. Arm-breaking is a lot easier if it's a felony to evade the arm-breaker.

so... you wanna know the dream smp lore as of dec 19th, 2020

you have come to the correct place

the dream smp in a nutshell (somewhat)

ok so despite the server itself starting in april, the lore doesn’t start until wilbur joined in like june. the basics are that wilbur tommy and tubbo started a drug business and that didn’t sit well with dream sapnap or george bc it was their server, so tommy tubbo and wilbur (and eret came in at some point) decided to separate their land on the server and call it l’manberg. they built a wall, they had their own national anthem. this again upset the dream team. eret then gets revealed as a traitor and causes everyone in l’manberg to lose their first lives. (there’s a 3 live rule for almost every character in the smp, the only exception being philza - he only has 1) eret did this in order to become kind of the server. then dream bombed l’manberg after wilbur tried to negotiate with him. at that point, independence for l’manberg was no longer looking like an options

then came an agreement between tommy and dream, they’d duel for l’manbergs independence, but if dream won he’d take one of tommy’s music discs (why the discs are so important? i literally could not tell you). dream won, taking tommy’s second life. and somewhere in there fundy enters the server as part of l’manberg, and starts all the weird family dynamic stuff

here’s a little tangent on family dynamics in the smp:

philza is the father of techno and wilbur (twins), and it’s confirmed their mother is a samsung smart fridge. he also fathers tommy, who’s mother is unknown, and tubbo, who’s adopted - his bio parents unknown, but there’s a really popular theory going around that schlatt is his bio dad

wilbur is the father of fundy, and fundys mother is apparently a fish - sally the salmon. it’s complicated, at some point the idea of sally being a shapeshifter was brought up but never confirmed

back to the lore, tommy came back on his last life and then negotiated with dream for the independence of l’manberg and in exchange he would give dream both of his discs (again, i have no clue why they’re so important to him but they play a huge part in his character) so with that, the war between l’manberg and the dream team was over. l’manberg wrote a decree of independence, officially exiled eret, then started a government - tommy was assigned treasury of the state and later the vice president, tubbo was the secretary of state, and fundy was just wilbur little champion. wilbur took the title as president

jack manifold then joined the server and l’manberg, dream begged him to join the dream team but he stayed with l’manberg. then tommy, jack, and tubbo decided to cause chaos and get revenge against dream for the destruction of l’manberg and for tommy to get his discs

there were a few minor events in between the war and the election that i don’t really deem that important, the most notable thing is that quackity joined the server. but if you’d like to read about the events - they’re on the wiki! i’d also recommend keeping up with the wiki because the plot moves very fast, and the wiki is a good source that always keeps track of everything that happens and just the members individually! there’s also a channel on youtube that uploads the vods of every member but only their smp streams, it’s just called dream smp members vods (if you’re at all interested in watching this rather than reading it)

we now get into the election. a lot of people weren’t really happy with wilbur as president and they weren’t taking him seriously, so wilbur tried to fix this by holding an election that originally he thought only he could win. quackity then formed his own party to run against wilbur, thus leading to SWAG2020 (quackity and george) vs POG2020 (wilbur and tommy). later joining the election would be Coconut2020 (fundy and niki nihachu) as well as Schlatt2020 (it was just schlatt). this was a real poll left up to the viewers, and Schlatt2020 ended up winning as for some reason his results were supposed to be combined with SWAG2020s results - together they had 46%, just 1% above POG2020 - so Schlatt was now president of l’manberg. (despite only joining the server once the campaigns had started and almost ended). schlatts first decree was to exile wilbur and tommy from l’manberg - he then kept tubbo as secretary of state and demanded he hunt tommy and wilbur. it’s also worth noting that he ordered the walls of l’manberg to be destroyed. this ends the l’manberg independence arc as a whole (yes all of that was one single arc) as l’manberg was renamed manberg by schlatt. (one last thing worth noting is that wilbur lost a life during the election, so he only has 1 life left)

this then starts the manberg rebellion arc. this is actually the longest arc at the moment as it lasted for almost 2 months(sep 22nd-nov 16th), but the next arc is still ongoing so that could change. also it’s now important to note that important events always happened on the 16th, so if you plan on ever watching streams live, you should always try to catch any that happen on the 16th.

wilbur and tommy created yet another independent part of the smp called pogtopia. other members of pogtopia were technoblade (who had just joined the server) acting as a mercenary, and tubbo, the pogtopia spy. this then caused another split of the server, and dream became part of pogtopia but only in secret. there were also third parties, that being manifold land and the badlands.

a festival in manberg was announced, and tubbo was supposed to give a speech and organize the event. this then caused wilbur to question his morality, and this sparked the idea that wilbur should blow up manberg for good, tommy didn’t agree with this, and dream sided with wilbur simply because he wanted schlatt gone. tommy and tubbo then decided they could only trust each other (THATS IMPORTANT PLEASE REMEMBER THAT)

the festival happened on oct 16th, where tubbo was outed as the l’manberg spy, techno was then ordered to kill tubbo (which he did, causing tubbo to lose a life and bring him down to one life) but he then basically caused a massacre in manberg. niki then joined pogtopia in hopes to save manberg with tommy and tubbo while wilbur and techno planned to destroy it. wilbur originally had plans to blow up manberg at the festival, but was unsuccessful as he lost the button he was supposed to use in order to do so

quackity was removed from his spot as vice president, then joining pogtopia. then an ultimatum was established within pogtopia - deal with schlatt, or wilbur blows everything up. that did not stop wilbur from attempting to blow up manberg yet again at nikis birthday party but was stopped by quackity, karl jacobs, and niki. the ultimatum was then given a deadline, november 6th.

quackity tried to meet with schlatt, who had tried to blow manberg up yet again only for schlatt to reveal that he moved the tnt wilbur put in manberg to pogtopia. fundy then revealed he’d been spying for pogtopia in secret - and wilbur began to realize that under schlatts leadership, NO ONE was on manbergs side. except dream who then revealed he actually was going to protect manberg for some reason idk dreams motivation and just dream in general is really confusing, but regardless he negotiated war with pogtopia, and the decided date was nov 16th

schlatt ended up dying of a heart attack in front of everyone in pogtopia, leaving the presidency to tommy, who then handed it to wilbur, who then handed it to tubbo. wilbur took this as his chance to blow up l’manberg, as in his eyes it would never be the same. philza then joined the server and tried to stop him, but he was unsuccessful. wilbur then convinced phil - his own father in canon - to kill him, and he did, causing him to die in all actuality this time as that was his last life.

techno then caused another massacre right after wilbur literally blew up l’manberg because he was angry that l’manberg was just replacing one dictator with another, and set two withers. he swore that he would destroy any government that rose in the dream smp. (i actually recommend watching wilburs video on this event, it’s his most recent dream smp video and probably his final as his character is dead now. techno also tells the story of theseus and he explains it much better than i can, and the role of theseus does play in later in the lore)(it’s also just a fucking cinematic masterpiece but maybe that’s just me)

that ends the manberg rebellion arc, and so starts the l’manberg retribution arc (which is still ongoing) and although the last arc currently stands as the longest arc, there’s much more lore in this arc at the moment. like i’ve said, the lore just moves very fast

the remaining citizens of l’manberg start to rebuild with the help of ghostbur, which is just as he sounds - the ghost of wilbur. he only remembers happy memories from his life and generally just likes to follow people around a lot, he’s not on anyone’s specific side. also somewhere during all of this, eret decided to adopt fundy, so eret is now in this complicated family dynamic mix

quackity was angry with technos actions and started ‘the butcher army’ so he could take techno down, despite tubbos wishes to not start any more wars and to keep l’manberg peaceful, and also the factor of technoblade now having nothing.

dream along with captain puffy started defacing and destroying the sever as a whole and placed all of the blame on tommy. most notably he targeted skeppy and badboyhalo in the badlands (who for some reason have one of tommy’s discs). dream left a fake note about the disc, which is what let to the belief that tommy actually did commit these crimes.

on nov 19th, a funeral was held for schlatt, to which the crowd who attended made fun of him and celebrated his death, and trying to cause trouble (basically quackity made a piss portrait of schlatt and ate his heart) the rest also took pieces of schlatts body. he was put to rest in the side of a mountain outside of l’manberg

badboyhalo actually encountered the grieving of him and skeppys houses done bg dream, promising to burn tommy’s discs. everyone else was finding out about “tommy” greeting bad, meanwhile quackity was replacing schlatts remains with fucking glass, trying to resurrect him - he then gave this task to awesamedude, but whether or not he’s going to do it is still up in the air

ranboo then joined the server and became close with tommy, and they both george’s george’s house. this caused dream to build and obsidian wall around l’manberg, and then everyone found out tommy grief led george (which is not a good look for the vice president (tommy is the vice president btw)) and this is when the idea of exiling tommy came up. tommy was then brought to court simply because dreamed wished to see tommy get exiled for things that he didn’t even do

a lot of stuff happened but i’m really trying my best to keep this brief, again you can read the wiki if you’d like more detail! it’s a great source of information! but in the end the decision to exile tommy was left to a twitter poll, it was close but the winning option was to exile tommy

before tommy got exiled, there was the introduction of mexican l’manberg also known as el rapids. in el rapids, a lot of conflict happened with dream, and at this point it really seems that no one is really on dramas side (which like rightfully so dsmp!dream is fucking horrible)

still before he was exiled, tommy brought up the idea of waging war on dream because it seemed that really everyone in l’manberg was against him. there was even the idea of getting people outside of l’manberg involved (like techno, sapnap, bad, etc). tubbo then had dream escort tommy out of l’manberg to his exile. he’d just betrayed his best friend, the person who he agreed was the only one he could trust, which confused a lot of people because it was almost a last moment decision - but apparently it was the only logical thing to do (bs imo) but then tubbo agreed to work with quackity in killing technoblade

dream stayed with tommy often while in exile, and they stayed together for about 11 days with occasional visits from ghostbur. dream was very violent towards tommy during all of this, threatening to kill him if he didn’t do as he said, blowing up an old house tommy and tubbo built, and saying that he could /never/ go back to l’manberg. tommy actually began hiding important items from dream so that he wouldn’t destroy them, as that was a common thing as well - he’d make tommy drop all of his items to dispose of them for good. there was one item he’d never drop, though, and that was a gift from ghostbur - it was a compass that pointed to the whitehouse in l’manberg called ‘your tubbo.’ similarly, tubbo also has a compass called ‘your tommy’ that pointed to logstedshire (the place where exiled tommy and dream would stay)(‘your tommy’ was destroyed, most likely by dream, and even though tubbo got a second one - tommy doesn’t stay in logstedshire for long)

dream unfortunately found out about this as well, and the. disposing of all of his hidden items. and after 11 days of experiencing all of this with dream, tommy left to find somewhere much safer, ultimately deciding to make a burrow under technoblade and philzas house, as no one in the smp except them had known its location.

he thought he could stay hidden but techno found him literally the next day after being hunted by the butcher army that quackity had built, and being ordered for execution in l’manberg only to be saved by a totem of undying and escaping l’manberg through the sewers with the help of dream. (it’s worth noting that philza was also captured, is now on house arrest, AND was almost forced to watch another one of his sons die right in front of him) and guess when all of that happened???? DEC 16th. also everyone in l’manberg now thinks tommy is dead and they’re planning a funeral for him because they saw some sort of explosion debris that somehow links to tommy(i think it was blown up logstedshire)

techno and tommy then formed an alliance in order to get back technos stolen items (the butchers from l’manberg took everything) as well as rescue phil, and to get tommy’s disc back. i’m doing this, techno revealed a secret room that no one but himself knew about prior, revealing to tommy a room full of wither skulls and a full set of netherite armor, uttering the fucking ICONIC line ‘welcome home, theseus’ and therefore referencing the last big event, showing that tommy has made progress since then (at least in the eyes of technoblade)

so tommy stays with techno with more visits from ghostbur, and visits from dream - although tommy has hidden during both of his visits with invis potions. techno is set on protecting tommy now, and tommy is still struggling with trying to separate himself from dream. the first time dream visits it’s with techno, and techno convinces him that tommy isn’t at his house. dream also points out that techno owes him a favor bc he saved him in l’manberg. the second visit is when ghostbur was there, and ghostbur slips up quite a lot when interacting with dream. dream reveals he knows tommy isn’t dead and that he’s with techno somehow, and i think that’s just about it

one last thing worth noting is that this story is almost always looking at the fans for inspiration and has included a lot of fan theories into the canon (techno and wilbur being twins, and most notably the ‘welcome home, theseus’ line) so i’d highly recommend in participating in fan stuff as much as you can! there’s also just a lot of creative people in the fandom if you stay out of the weird side lol. but with that, i think that’s about all of the lore as of now

I really want to buy Wakana's new album and I got very happy when I read it was on Google Play, but, when I looked up for it, it only appears the thumbnail of Wakana but not her songs. So I was wondering, is there any other way to buy digitally the album? I know there's iTunes, but I don't know if you need an specific device in order to make the purchase and listen to it. I am honestly not familiar with the Google Play Store. I just tried checking out the Google Play website (the Austrian version) and you are right, they do use a picture from Wakana’s “magic moment” album but none of her songs seem to be available. Same goes for the mobile phone app version (I checked on my mum’s phone - she is using a Samsung) (;*△*;)

Maybe her stuff is region-blocked? It’s weird though since I am seeing songs by that sax player who is also named Wakana (WaKaNa). Why offer her music and not Wakana’s? It doesn’t make any sense.

I am honestly so sorry!! Were any of my followers able to purchase Wakana’s music from the Google Play Store? I would like to know if it is indeed a regional thing.

As for iTunes: Personally I use it on my phone (it’s pre-installed on iPhones) but I know you can also get it for your computer. All you need to do is download the iTunes program for your software. You will have to register an Apple ID (email&password) but I am pretty sure that’s free. I can’t speak for other countries but I do know for a fact that Wakana’s music is available for purchase in the Austrian iTunes Store (usually that’s a good indication for a wide-ranging availability).

I chose to do a short film with the theme being magic. When I started to brainstorm I thought it would be a good idea to research protective symbols so I drew some out in my notebook and wrote out the different meanings. 

And the notebook I used in filming has one of the symbols on the cover. Every Week I would make a new schedule template so that I would know what needs to be done on certain days. My proposal was helpful because it outlined what I wanted to achieve.

I did the eight types of research listed on the brief. There is initial,inspirational,artist,target audience,legal,practical and developmental, art and wider inspiration and primary research. My initial research was from my brainstorms and the protective symbols my inspirational research came from films and tv series that I had watched for example I researched the Harry Potter films and that where I thought about creating my own potion bottles. I also watched short films on short of the week and for my artist research I have researched different directors and producers from the films and tv series I have researched.

My target audience research goes with my primary research as I created a survey from survey monkey and put the link on the Facebook group. For legal research I researched age classifications and got the information from the bbfcs website I also looked at what royalty free music is and I looked at you tube's copyright rules and myths. I did research on J.K.Rowling as part of my art and wider inspiration as the books inspired me just as much as the films. As part of my practical and developmental research I looked at different shot types. 

The most helpful type of research for me was the inspiration research because that is where I got my ideas from. The least helpful type of research for me was art and the wider category as I only researched an author. All the types of research made a big impact on my work because I think that it's more professional now and better thought out.

Why is this important? 

My key demographic is between the age of 16-17 because of all the people that answered my survey that age category has the highest percentage and that's shown in my survey analysis post. The specific thing that appeals to my audience is that my short film is on witches and from the data I collected a high amount of people have watched a film or series that has witches featured even if they don't believe that they are real. This tells me that the watching could be fantasy or sci-fi fans. The psychographic audience analysis tells me that the majority of people that will watch my film are students and a handful of teachers. 

My film is appropriate to my audience because it features a spell book and a scene where I've filmed it to look like Sabrina has lit a candle with her mind. It is important that my work appeals to my target audience because in all areas of media in order to cater for diverse tastes and interests you must be able to identify and have a target audience. I used the survey in a way that allows the audience to tell me what they want to see. For example one question was about whether or not to have a spell book shown. In addition one question was about what type of music the audience wanted to have for example acoustic, energetic or suspense.

I filmed on my Samsung galaxy s10 because I don't have anything else to film on but before filming I watched a YouTube video on how to shoot a short film on my phone and it was really helpful. I did all my other work on my Lenovo computer. I edited the adobe premiere and this is where I could really experiment.

I tried out different transition effects and at the end where Sabrina's on the floor I experimented with the colour changing effects to make it more suspenseful. For pre-production I made a storyboard, location recce with photos, risk assessment, working from home plan and the health and safety considerations sheet.

Experimenting with different effects made my work so much better because it gave it an almost professional look because it wasn't just random footage put in a sequence and had PowerPoint-like transition effects. I pushed myself further in the editing department because even when I was having problems rendering I kept working and didn't give up  and I also spent more time editing the footage together then I had before in previous projects. 

I looked at two websites for camera angles and they were both linked on Facebook studio binder showed me all the different types of shots and it was more in depth than the first website I had looked at.

Overall, I think that the project has gone really well because I have pushed myself to add more detail in the work that I produce. What didn't go to plan was the lockdown being extended because at the beginning of getting the brief I thought about using the greenscreen to create a scene where it looks like the actress is making some feathers float around. I overcame this by brainstorming what I could do realistically.

If I were to do this project again I would definitely stick with doing a short film but I would show Sabrina doing more magic or I could do a magic show like in now you see me or some optical illusions. Overall I kept to my schedules and my proposal and they did help to keep me on track. Looking back at my schedules I used the majority of my time well but on the 19th of may I could have spent more time working. I feel happy about how my final piece and work is presented because I can honestly say that I couldn't have done better.

What you liked most about Taehyung was that he still had some Geochang in him. Granted, it hadn’t been long since he’d traded an idyllic riverside for the lights and smog of Seoul, but the part of him that others chided as rustic and unrefined was what you saw as honest. 

Secretly, you wished you could be more like him. And maybe you would have, if this city hadn’t made it impossible to. Without a thick skin, you’d be a deer in the midst of wolves. 

“Haesoo,” he called out from the paint aisle, “did you see any Holbein lying around?”

“The gouache?” You yelled back. “They ran out yesterday, but I placed an order. They should be coming in next week.”

There was a distant clatter in response, then Taehyung exclaiming “leaping lizards.” Sounded like he’d knocked over an easel. “That picky ahjumma won’t let me hear the end of it.”

“Then don’t tell her,” you said.

“She’s going to ask about it, anyway,” he lamented, coming into view. His hair was freshly black then, starkly illustrating his handsome features. Any girl would save a country for someone like him, although you had never seen him take advantage of it. 

“Good luck.” You returned to your book. “I’ll be cheering you on silently.”

Only the light melody from the speakers responded. Manager Min had a talent for finding poignant music, and right then, it swept you up in a breeze, a wash of waves along the shore. A midnight trip to the beach when you were a child, determined and fearless, and your brother dared you to wade out as far as you could without looking back. 

And then Taehyung cut in, yanking you out of your memory.

“Hoping we won’t find–” he began, his voice startlingly loud. In fact, he was standing right behind you, peering over your shoulder. Snapping your book shut, you whipped around to glare at him. “What do you want?”

“Can you switch with me? That ahjumma seriously gets on my nerves.“

“You handled her just fine the last time. If you can’t, what makes you think I can?”

“You’re way better at keeping your cool, for one,” he started, but when it was obvious you weren’t going to budge, he switched gears. “I’ll buy you something. Just name the price and I’ll pay it.”

“A job for the marketing team at Samsung.”

“You can’t pay for that,” he retorted.

“But you can bribe someone,” you shot back. “That’s still a price to pay, isn’t it?”

“Are you kidding? I can’t go to jail.”

“Then sorry, I can’t help you.”

Pouting, Taehyung pulled at your arm. “Please? Just this once.”

“No.” You tugged it back. “Will you stop and get back to work?”

“Only if you aren’t contradicting yourself,” he pointed out.

“Okay, first, there’s no one–” Paying, you were about to say, but caught your mistake. Not only was no one in line for the register, but there was also no one in the entire shop besides the two of you. 

“Exactly,“ Taehyung affirmed, a playful tilt to his smile. “So since we’re not busy and I don’t have anything to read, can we switch?” He turned up the aegyo again. 

Gosh, Taehyung could be such a persistent child. You don’t even like reading, you wanted to say, but considered giving in to get him off your back. 

Just then, the bells on the door chimed.

It took Taehyung a second to resume the part of a proper employee, and in that second, you gave him a smug look. He stuck his tongue out. Then he strode over to greet the halmoni who’d stepped in, and you watched her glow as he’d talked, Gyeongsang satoori on display. She’d come from around Daegu, then, you thought with a smile. Taehyung always knew how to make a customer feel at home.

A minute later, Manager Min shuffled in with a huge, sturdy bag, dropping it off in front of you.

“What’s this?” You asked, turning the bag around to see the logo of an electronics company.

“Our new security camera. Someone’s going to help me install it later.“ He made his way around the counter, and instinctively, you felt your pulse pick up. That was the one thing you couldn’t control. “Did that new shipment of Jumi notebooks come in?”

“Half an hour ago,” you said, wondering why Min decided to get a camera now. It hadn’t been long since the old one had stopped working, yet long enough that it seemed he would go on without one. The surrounding area was relatively free of crime, anyway, and chances of a robbery were slim to none.

Had he somehow caught onto you stealing? You turned to meet his eyes. His expression was nothing out of the ordinary - no narrowed eyes or searching gaze suggestive of a question.

“Great,” he said, voicing out your thoughts. “And you restocked them?”

“As soon as they came in.”

Min nodded, satisfied. “I’ll take over the cashier, you go and help Taehyung-ssi.”

“Of course.”

“Oh, and Haesoo-ssi?” You looked back. “Jiwon-ssi’s farewell dinner is tomorrow. Don’t forget.”

“I won’t,” you assured with a smile, then greeted the next customer. She was slim, dressed in a dark pantsuit similar to the one your mother bought when you told her you’d accepted an offer to work at Hana Financial Group. In fact, it hung in your closet, the tags still attached. You couldn’t bring yourself to return it.

“Hello.“ The customer came up to you, smile sweet, eyes sharp. “Do you have the piano performance book for the Associated Board Exams?” She pushed a girl who could only be her daughter forward, prompting her gently. “What level was it, princess?”

The daughter, surprisingly, had tears in her eyes. Her mother bent to wipe them, murmuring what seemed to be words of comfort until you read her lips. “You don’t want the duster when we get home, do you?”

It was a mild threat compared to the items that had been doled out on you for discipline. This girl, however, was no more than seven. She wouldn’t know anything worse. Bravely, she gulped in a breath and met your eyes. “Four,” she said, voice clear.

You could barely say, “yes,” before a bell-like sound came from the woman’s pocket. She pulled her phone out and held it to her ear, telling her daughter to follow you while she left to speak outside.

Alone, the girl looked to you timidly. Her wide eyes glistened from the last of her tears, and if her mother hadn’t been within sight, you wouldn’t have hesitated to reach out and console her. As it was, you could only say, “Follow me.”

In the book aisle, you showed her where the Associated Board ones were kept and turned to look at her. “Do you like playing the piano?”

“Yes.” She met your gaze straight-on.

That would have convinced you, had you not seen the way her mother treated her or how her gaze lingered at the art section, curiosity burning bright.

“That’s good,” you said, handing her the Level 4 book. “Are you practicing for the exams?”

“Yes.”

“And did you make mistakes?”

She flinched, but maintained eye contact. “No.”

It was the face of denial. You knew that one too well.

Gently, you knelt down in front of her. “I didn’t say that was a bad thing. It’s how you learn and get better. If you keep practicing, you’ll do well.”

“But umma says if I make mistakes, I’m going to fail and make her mad.”

“Maybe at the exam,” you agreed, “but when you practice, it doesn’t count. When will you be tested?”

“Next, next…” She paused, thinking, then added, “next month.”

“You still have time,” you assured. “So mistakes don’t mean you failed, okay? They mean chances to improve.”

She nodded, slowly coming around to what you were saying. “Okay.”

“Please remember that,” you said, then stretched out a hand to her, opening your palm. In it was the origami ballerina you’d seen her staring at, the one of Odette from Swan Lake. You were sure Jiwon wouldn’t mind if it went missing. “And if there’s something you really want to do, don’t give up on it.”

Joy shone on her face as she took it from you. “Thank you.”

You returned her smile. “Don’t tell your umma any of this. It’s a secret, promise?”

She hooked her pinky through yours. “Promise,” she echoed, then tucked the ballerina in her pocket. 

You were glad she agreed. Not because you were afraid of her mother chewing you out; if anything, you could care less. You just didn’t want to make things harder on the girl, and you knew better than to get in the way between a mother and a daughter. You were a stranger, after all, not anyone close. All you could do was give her hope.

When the girl’s mother re-entered, you watched her run back, light catching on her hair. 

(In hindsight, that was probably one of the few things you did that was worth it.)

Sailfish OS: One Day

Today’s gonna be a weird and long post, so let’s start slow and give you the choice.

We’ve had, for years, seen the constant back and forth between Google and Apple on their respective phone operating systems. Android, which has dominated the market on basically any device you can pick up here in the states, and iOS, which exclusively powers iPhones, iPods and iPads. Despite the two duking it out, Android does hold the highest market share. As of Q2 2018, Statista claims a whopping 82% market share for Android, and no other competitors really exist.

But, for years, I’ve been enamored by an OS that has been seemingly out of my reach, and has had a lot of drawbacks that prevented me from ever considering using it for more than an hour. An OS that’s been going strong for over 5 years, and might soon see a new breath of fresh air due to recent allegations to Huawei. So, after the break, let me tell you my tale of Sailfish OS.

Now one thing I want to briefly mention is the history of this, but don’t take it as gospel. I’m not an expert on this stuff, but what I’ve gathered is Sailfish OS is built on a foundation of MeeGo and Mer. MeeGo has prospered on its own to Tizen, an alternative OS used widely by Samsung on their watches and fridges (for some reason), while Mer was a fork of MeeGo driven by the community, and became the framework for ex-Nokia employees to start a new project, with the funding of Nokia through their Bridge program. Those ex-Nokia employees would found Jolla, and Sailfish OS would be their creation.

I first heard of Sailfish in 2013, as I was dipping my toes into the world of smartphones at that point. It looked incredible, with vivid, vibrant colors, a gesture-driven UI, a uniform design language, and a promise of privacy and openness that we definitely don’t see from companies today. And at the time, I was especially curious of their hardware.

The Jolla phone saw its first pre-orders in April of 2013, and was officially available for purchase by November. It had decent specs for the time. Snapdragon 400, a modest 540x960 resolution (keep in mind, the flagship Samsung Galaxy SIII had a mere 720p resolution), 1GB of RAM, a 2100mAh battery, and most interesting to me, the “Other Half” which powered the system’s Ambiences. You slap a new Other Half on it, and the color changed to match in the OS. Cool in concept.

The later Jolla tablet would be promoted with an Indiegogo campaign, but unfortunately, costs and availability of materials, and the development of Sailfish OS 2.0 led to the tablet ultimately being cancelled, with a handful of units out in the wild.

Since then, Jolla’s gotten back on stable footing. The OS is open for licensing with OEMs, and Jolla’s been able to get official support from places like Russia, and companies like... Sony.

I have the Xperia XA2, released in March 2018 for $300 in the US. I snatched it up on eBay for a mere $170, and I’ve enjoyed its clean design, near-stock OS, and the solid in-house Sony apps like the Gallery and Music apps worked wonders. But then I discovered Jolla was working on Sailfish X for the XA2.

As a way to support the OS, and a way to fund the continued development of an Android compatibility layer for those who need Android apps, Jolla has Sailfish X, a version of their OS that features predictive text input with the keyboard, software updates and customer support, and of course, the Alien Dalvik, which lets you run Android apps on the OS natively. This was important, since I knew I needed apps like Discord, Twitter, Google Maps, and I could see the available open-sourced apps of things like Keepass weren’t gonna cut it.

The process was a bit difficult, and I stayed up until 4am on Saturday, trying to get the phone backed up, flashed, and ready to go with what I needed. First, I had to unlock the bootloader, which Sony and Jolla made it pretty easy. Then I had to buy the OS for the meager $35 USD (which I had done before even being certain my phone would do it, don’t make my mistake), download their software package and just... do it. After an hour, I had the phone running Sailfish, and man, it was a delight from the beginning. Swiping, tapping, sliding, the OS felt smooth, it had this flow about it.

After I got the accounts logged in, I proceeded to grab a few apps... before realizing all too soon that I’d need Google Play services. This is where I’m probably gonna get a lot of flack. For all the effort I put in, I was about to install apps that were at least partially at fault for the slowness of my XA2 on Android, and defeating the point of installing Sailfish.

Let me be forward in saying I don’t care that much about privacy. Do I like Google being involved in every facet of my life? Absolutely not, but they are sadly a necessary evil. And it’s not like you, the reader, would be any different. Tumblr, after all, is owned by Verizon, who has a history of screwing customers in plenty of situations, including firefighters who need constant access to emergency services for contact. And too many things want or need Google Play for me to avoid it. Discord, Telegram, Authy, Youtube, I use all this stuff, and without GP, it gets unhappy. I could remedy some of those by using Amazon or just going open-source with F-Droid, but it won’t fix the issue. And even now, microG, an open-source implementation of Google Play services, isn’t perfect, and would likely cause more headaches than I could handle at 4am on a Saturday.

Fortunately, some good Samaritans on Jolla’s Together forums created a simple Bash script I could run by just SSHing into my phone... Wow, that was a sentence. A fitting one though. After that, and after some headaches with the Google Setup wizard (here’s a tip: use Vision settings to get to your Android settings, and disable permissions on “Android Setup” when you’ve gotten your account logged in), I was finally using my phone, and it runs quite well. Android apps don’t consistently work correctly. Often, I have to close apps like the settings or Keepass because the framework stops updating the frontend, or even fully stop and start Android support, but it works well for just about everything I’m using on it now!

I really like the UI and design, and since the Other Half concept isn’t there for the XA2, ambiences are just a menu away from changing the look and feel of the OS in this pleasing way.

The system flows thanks to its gesture-driven controls. Swiping up from the bezel will bring you your app tray, swiping from the top bezel gives you quick settings. When you’re on the home screen, swiping left or right gives you a sort of agenda view where notifications, weather, and updates from your Twitter, Facebook, XMPP, VK and other accounts stack up. When you’re inside an app, swiping from the left or right bezel should bring you back home. Of all the interface controls on this device, that one is the most inconsistent one, a pain point given the nature of Android’s design language encourages these slide-out menus that you can’t consistently swipe open due to that gesture. The only setting I’ve found on that is to change the left-side bezel swipe to open the agenda instead of going home. I’d personally prefer hot zones on the bezels, so if I wanted to go home, swipe in from the lower half of the screen, but if I want the Android menus, slide from the top half.

Other interesting design cues come from the glowing parts of the UI, where extended menu options usually hide, or places you can slide out to are available.

Sliding down if the top is glowing usually opens this pulley menu, where each option can be selected by just pulling a bit and letting go. It’s an odd one, and due to the inconsistencies of apps and options, the pulley menu isn’t as instantly intuitive as I would hope. If there’s a glowing dot on a page though, you can simply slide to return to a menu from previously, or access another menu if the dot’s on the right side. Again, this is a bit inconsistent, as the unofficial Twitter app, Pingviini, showcases. You can actually just swipe left and right at will to access your notifications, conversations, search and trendings, and timeline. That bottom menu you’re seeing there is hidden so often, it’s basically pointless to have it there. This does make the whole system feel more cohesive, Pingviini looks like it belongs on this phone, but it does hurt usability.

Thus far, I’m still testing and learning about this OS. I had to google screenshotting, which is simply holding the volume rocker together. Doesn’t feel as reliable as the Android alternative of Volume Down and Power / Home, but I’ll take it. I don’t plan on gaming with this. Games are just not what I buy a phone for. It’s nice to have it there, but I’d prefer to just play my 3DS if I’m out and about.

I can’t wait to do more with Sailfish. It feels really nice to use, and I’m honestly draining my phone’s battery just from the amusement of swiping and sliding menus around and admiring the design of this. The last OS I really enjoyed using was Blackberry 10, and this feels like a sort of spiritual successor, with the included agenda feed and the persistent cards for apps you’re using.
