So, I actually did a bit of writing for “In need of Refueling” today cuz it was slow at work :3
Still super busy and it probably won’t have any updates for another month or so, but it felt good to write again
Anyway, here are a couple doodles that I forgot to post from the latest chapter

Humankind dies one way, we another. Their end is final. Ours is not. In the earth, in rotting wood, in the eternal darkness, we will see and hear and feel.

when human soldiers became obsolete and robots began using blood as fuel, would the war recruitment propaganda become centred around donating blood?

I need your opinion on something; the spirit train from spirit tracks.
What material do you think it's made from? I figure the shiny goldish trimming is some kind of metal like gold or brass, the top part of the passenger car is probably wood and glass, and the red roof on both that and the locomotive is wood as well I think? But I'm not really sure if everything that's blue is wood or metal?
So, this is a multifaceted answer, because I have three separate opinions on it.
In my head, it's wooden. The default train you get for the tutorial is wooden, and metal trains to me either look silver or black.
Tumblr media
Adding to this theory is the distinct lack of bolts. Compare to the endgame arena, the Demon Train:
Tumblr media
Look how many bolts that baby has! Look how shiny it is! This is absolutely made of metal.
In broader Nintendo Lore (NOT LoZ lore), the Spirit Engine IS metal. Look how it's portrayed in Smash:
Tumblr media
The passenger car almost certainly has wooden frames around the windows, but on everything else, the edges have been made to look like metal, bolts included. However, I don't consider this design canon in the world of Hyrule, because it was worked on by different artists than the ones that made Spirit Tracks. What likely happened here is that they were shown a reference picture and told to make it into a stage.
Now, let's get into the worldbuilding answer. Based on it being a steam engine (and ignoring the fact that it doesn't use coal, instead taking energy from the tracks it runs on), wood wouldn't make sense to make an engine out of. The steam would warp it, the firebox is a fire hazard, and the damage this baby sustains as it rides would splinter to bits if it was made of wood.
Yes, I'm aware that there's a wooden train, but there's also a dessert train, and unless strawberry shortcake suddenly has structural integrity, we can't take the customized trains to be any more canon than the Nintendo Switch shirt Link can find in BotW.
But it's not plain metal, either. No bolts visible, and it's colorful. And it's something that hasn't been used in ages, a gift from the gods, without so much as a speck of rust on it.
You know what it does look like, though?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crimsonine, Azurine, and Aquanine.
These metals helped make up the Phantom Sword in the previous game, Phantom Hourglass, and are the only thing capable of defeating the monster Bellum. With the Spirit Train, they could easily be what makes such a tanky-but-speedy, old-but-functional engine. The colors are a little duller than the raw ores, so maybe they patina over time, like copper.
But what about the gold?
I'd like to direct your attention to one more ore of a similar nature.
Tumblr media
This is called Master Ore. It's the material in A Link Between Worlds that's used to give the Master Sword more power. It has a similar crystal formation to the three Pure Metals, and channels magic well enough to defeat monsters with more ease than the regular Master Sword, of all things.
Granted, we find it in a different branch of the official timeline. But there's no reason a resource would just not exist between timelines, just not be widely known.
So, in short: I think the most likely answer as to what the Spirit Train is made of is Master Ore, the three Pure Metals, and possibly steel/iron alloys with the above metals for things like the body of the engine, the wheels and drive rods, and the metal of the cannon.

Behold, the very first meme (and post) I have ever made, because me and a friend (that never played Dragalia that I've nonetheless spammed her about) made a meme of the royal fam sorted into "which 'spider on drugs' are they?" chart and I was. Inspired.
Please watch that video, "Spiders on Drugs", it's a famous short summary of a documentary. But for now I'll stick to the traditional character sort memes.
Is this perfect? Absolutely not.
Satisfactory? Possibly. ...Apparently.
So, uh, yeah. Ignore the fact the word 'children' got erased. 100% intentional in my Microsoft Paint artistry. Let's also pretend I remembered Nedrick in time to shove him way off in the 'black coffee' distance with most of the fam.
In any case, hi Dragalia fandom! Technically not new to it completely but might as well be, as I go by ValerieFauxNom (wow, what a shock!) on AO3, though with exactly one (1) dragalia fic I'm writing right now, so if you ever wanna ask questions or anything about that or anything dragalia (or tales of the abyss, or radiant historia, or-) feel free to send a message! Always up for dragalia stuff, especially regarding the royal fam because they are disasters and I loved it.
Other than that, sorry for any mistakes in this post! Probably made like 5 of them somewhere.

So fucking sick of recharging shit. Why do people act like recharging a TV remote or a watch or headphones or light timers or cars is compelling? What is better than only needing to change batteries every once in a while?

maybe its too early to say anything bc this is only the second old lady group i've ever attended (the first one was a scrapbooking group that my mum was in briefly and i joined for a couple sessions) BUT OLD LADY GROUPS FUCKING RULE MAN. they're so chill and they CARE about each other and there's no egotistical bullshit getting in the way and everyones just there to have a good time and its so nice. also if u dont hear what someone said u can totally just ask them to repeat it and nobody gives u a hard time bc THEYRE OLD LADIES. PLUS you aren't really expected to remember everyone's names because everyone there forgets ppls names constantly esp if it's a drop-in group that has an ever-shifting members list !!!!
everyone should have an old lady group theyre part of and i mean this whole-heartedly and genuinely

In need of Refueling, Chapter 33 - Found
Summary:  “You?! Why would I trust you? You have brought me nothing but failure. Time and time again; nothing but disappointment!”
His father’s words might have been a result of his possession by the  White Bone Spirit, but whether or not they were his true thoughts, Red  Son vows to prove them wrong. To do so he seeks to attain a power strong enough to destroy his father’s immortal enemy. After all, he’d much rather throw fire at his problems.
Word Count: 1729
Ratings/Warnings:  Teen and up; injury, burns, angst and hurt/comfort, toxic thoughts caused by toxic parents, panic attacks, abuse.
Notes: Red Son is found...
Credits: Big thanks to @painted-arachnid and @simplyfornardo  for helping me bounce ideas off of them. And also thanks to @lemonsqueazie for providing me with “Journey to the West” lore. I don’t know much about the original novel or other iterations, but I still tried to keep  some things compliant with the lore. You should check all of them out, since they’re really great content creators with neat ideas!

———-
The noodle cart putters down the road towards the direction of the Flaming Foundry, home of the Demon Bull King family. MK knows that he probably should be using this time for his appointed delivery - the noodles likely growing cold in the cart's adjacent seat - and he's aware that he may be pushing the cart to go faster than what is best for the little machine, but he has to confirm whether or not his suspicions of where Red Son was going was true.
As he forces the cart's engine to go uphill, nearing the lip of the crater-like foundry, his stomach does a flip turn that has nothing to do with the cart bouncing over the area's rough terrain. Sure enough, he sees Red Son marching resolutely up the path.
"Red Son!" MK yells.
The demon in question continues up the hill. MK calls his name again, but he's ignored. He gives the accelerator of the cart one last push and it spurts a little way past Red Son. MK swings around and puts the cart in the demon's path. MK hops out and jumps in front of Red Son.
“Red Son, where are you going?” he asks.
Without skipping a beat, Red Son passes around MK and the cart and continues up the path. “Where does it look like, Noodle Boy?” he snaps, not even looking at him.
MK follows quickly follows behind calling to Red Son, “You know what I mean! Why are you going there?!”
“I’m just going to pick up some things. I’ll be right back,” Red Son says over his shoulder.
MK breathes an annoyed puff of air out his nose. “Even I know that's a lame excuse! What aren't you telling us?”
“It’s none of your concern.”
“That doesn’t keep me from being concerned! You’re my friend, and I know that going to see your parents isn’t easy for you. What changed that made you decide to go see them suddenly. And why alone without telling anyone?”
Red Son hesitates and his march forward lingers slightly, then says in a low voice, “You shouldn’t have to deal with this…”
“Can’t I be the one to decide that?” MK reasons.
This time Red Son stops and turns around looking MK up and down.
MK opens his palms up, placatingly. “Please, tell me what’s going on.”
Red Son looks at MK’s hopeful eyes, his own having a glassy sheen to them. He quickly looks down and squints them shut, tightening his fists as he quickly confesses in a voice so quiet, it’s as if he doesn’t want it to be heard. “My father has the Samadhi Fire.”
MK freezes involuntarily, barely breathing.
Red Son continues. “I saw it on my Bullbot app. I didn’t want to tell you. I know that it has caused you so much trouble already. I don’t want you to have to face it again.”
As Red Son goes on, MK, forces himself to be present, and ground himself. He can tell Red Son’s voice is wavering, too. And he doesn’t like the mindset that the fire demon seems to have. He forces his voice to speak out. “So you were going to face it by yourself?!” he shouts incredulously.
Red Son remains silent, and continues to look down, as if refusing to look MK in the eyes.
MK softens his voice. “It hurt you, too, Red Son.”
Red Son’s mouth twists into a grimace. “I deserved it–”
“DON’T YOU DARE SAY YOU DESERVED IT!” MK shouts. Red Son flinches, shoulders hunching up to his ears, and turning away slightly, but he doesn’t move from his spot. MK takes another step towards his friend. “No one deserves that!” Another step. “You don’t have to do this alone!” His next step brings him right next to the demon, and he grasps his arm, gently, but gives a short squeeze. “Let us help!”
Red Son’s head snaps up at MK, looking at him fiercely, and for a moment MK is worried that he might push him away, not only verbally, but also physically. However, his expression crumbles as the emotional weight of the situation crashes down, and he sags under it, leaning forward and laying his head on MK’s shoulder.
Momentary shock prevents MK from moving, but after feeling the demon shudder next to him, he quickly wraps his arms around Red Son and gives him a soft hug. Red Son speaks into the fabric of his shirt. “I didn’t want you all to be hurt by it again. It’s my fault that it was brought into this world.”
He lifts himself up and looks at MK with a fiery resolve. “It’s my responsibility. And I have to face my parents sometime. I don’t know if they’ll take me back, but I can at least do something if I am with them.”
“Just because you feel responsible, doesn’t mean you can’t ask for help. Or at least, ya know, tell us when you’re about to go do something like this?! I can’t believe I’m the one saying this, but do you even have a plan?!”
Red Son falters momentarily. “Eh… erh. Okay, no, but I figured I can at least do something if I’m with them. Talk to them. Talk to The Fire.” Here his rambling becomes more analytical in its cadence. “I think I’m still somewhat connected to it. I was able to feel its presence before. I think that's what my dreams and visions have been about. Maybe I can stop it or take it back… I’m not sure…”
MK takes note of that. It sounds like something Mr. Tang or the Monkey King might know about. “See that’s why it’d be better if you told us. We can figure this out together! So, please come back to the noodle shop with me?” He holds out his hand.
Red Son looks at it nervously, then up at MK. MK gives him the most hopeful and open expression he can muster, throwing in a bit of a puppy-dog eyed look. The fire demon’s gaze lingers on the offered hand for a tense moment. Then a small smile spreads on his face, and his own hand slowly reaches out. His fingers just barely brush MK’s fingertips, when he freezes as a familiar voice calls to him from behind.
“Red Son…?”
They turn around to see, standing just up the hill is Princess Iron Fan.
- - - - -
Red Son and MK stare at Princess Iron Fan.
There is a pause, as if everyone doesn’t know what to do.
Then, Princess Iron Fan’s eyes widen, and her face lifts to one of happiness and relief. She rushes in her son’s direction. Red Son stiffens up, and does all he can to not back away as his mother runs up and throws her arms around him in a warm embrace.
Red Son is frozen to the spot, unsure of what to do. It’s been so many years since his mother has actually hugged him. He's snapped out of his stupor momentarily when she speaks. "Oh, Red Son, you’ve finally come home!" She holds him tightly, a much warmer welcome than he remembers from her for a long time. His arms robotically inch up and he returns the hug, though he's not sure how much pressure to give, so he more or less just rests his hands on her back.
"We looked everywhere for you!” she exclaims
Red Son finally finds his voice. "...'We'?"
"Well, your father stayed home today. He's been sulking in his room quite a bit since you disappeared. We knew you had to be alive, since the Bullbots still seemed to be running without us giving them commands, but we just didn't know where you were, or if you were okay, or if you were..." She finally takes notice of MK who stands as if unsure whether to fight or stand down, but is prepared to attack or defend if necessary. "Or if you were captured by the enemy..." She scowls at him.
Red Son is quick to intervene. "They didn't capture me, mother." He stands between them and puts up his hands, palms out. "They, er, helped heal me, actually..."
“Still, they kept us from you for so long…” Princess Iron Fan says darkly before addressing the human in front of her. “I could kill you for the harm you did to my husband.” She stares down at MK menacingly, mystical wind kicking up around her, allowing her to hover slightly.
Red Son has to think fast or else he's very certain that she will make good on her threat. He stands with determination and resolve. Don’t show weakness. Don’t show fear. He pushes down any emotion that he’s feeling at the moment. Holds it in, and makes sure to not let any of it show. He puts on the most neutral and diplomatic face he can muster.
“The Monkie Kid and his companions healed me. I stayed with them and assisted in some matters in order to repay that debt. The Monkie Kid was just escorting me back to the Flaming Foundry, and I gave them my word that no harm would come to him while doing so.”
Princess Iron Fan remains hovering; danger and literal gusts of wind rolling off of her in waves.
Don’t show weakness. Don’t show fear.
“It would be dishonorable to go against my word," Red Son pushes.
Princess Iron Fan’s stare bores holes into the Monkie Kid for a few seconds longer before she finally lets out an annoyed huff, and lowers to the ground, her menacing aura fading. “Fine,” she says. “But I suppose this means that all debts are paid, and there is no need for you to fraternize with them any longer. You can come home. No need to waste any more time or formalities on these peasants. Now let us return to the foundry."
Before Red Son can even think to react, his mother has whipped out her fan, and twirls a current of air around them ready to teleport them away. Before the curtain of magical wind fully envelops them, he gives one last desperate look at MK. He tries to tell her to wait, but before he can get a word out, she has swept them away, and the last look he sees is the worried face of his friend.
