once again debating trying out another program

#the bin #hated krita. just doesnt work for me. firealpaca is genuinely great but i think i need something with a bit more to it #not even for the stuff i post. i havent posted any of the art im struggling to make in firealpaca bc im just unhappy with it #maybe i just need to lean the program better but i honestly dont wanna put in effort to learn a program that doesnt have a lot of features #thats what i like about firealpaca most is its a very simple easy to use program #well idk what one to try out. i think ill maybe give a free trial if some less expensive ones a go and see how i like it #firealpaca is dear to me weirdly. idk. i just remember making really shitty art and animations with it when i was 11 on my touch screen #laptop and it feels happy that im making so much better stuff with it now. i wanna learn to animate properly but im not good at it #i havent been drawing much lately bc my room is a mess but im gonna clean it today so hopefully that mostly fixes it #once my sister moves out i should be back to normal. i miss drawing all the time :/ #sorry im rambling here again. nobody cares abt this lol. but ig nobody sees these usually anyway so it doesnt matter

helurf okay so after midterms last week, I’ve been trying to like relax and give myself time to rest but IVE HAD SO MANY ASSIGNMENTS :((( and I’m so tired and burnt out and stressed cause I need to start studying for finals and ahhhhhh alsksjjdjf :(

okay now for some more fun updates!! i had fun at uni yesterday!! we had a super fun soil science lab we got to go into soil pits on the farm our campus has and analyze soil (ph, diagnostic horizons, colour, structure, texture etc) !! It was a lot of fun I’m gonna miss the class and my prof :( (it was my last lab)

another fun thing is its art market week at my uni so time to drop a ton of money on prints, stickers and crocheted animals !!! :D

AND okay so I made it into a special like abroad research kinda program/course in like that’s usually only available to upper years students but somehow I made it in alskkskdjdj . Anyways, we get to go to South Africa from like May 14-June 9 to do research and stuff in the field!!! and like IM SO EXCITED??? So anyways, the 19 students that also made it in (it’s a highly competitive program to get into) we had our second group meet up plus our prof (who taught my favourite class by far last term) yesterday and it was a lot of fun and we got free dinner which was super super yum and I can’t believe I’m actually going ahhhhh

and then I went to a friends house for dinner (yes, dinner again) which was fun we like catch up at least once a month and yeah

AHHHH UR UNI LAB SOUNDED SO FUN I love labs where you just get to go outside and do stuff in nature it’s fr so healing 👼 I took a geology course in college where we got to go to this creek near my school and like test the ph balance of the water and it was so much fun being outside instead of cooped up in the lecture hall fr one of the best labs we ever did. AND the art market this week???? RAHHH HAVE SO MUCH FUN we used to have something similar at my uni and I would drop SO much on stickers not even joking my laptop is covered in them still :’)

My day was honestly vvvvv boring but it was productive! I had work and then I had a shit ton of laundry to do but I was tired as fuck and I have cramps bc my period started today so I got coffee first to wake me up and then after cleaning the apartment I caught up on Ateez vlogs and now I’m simultaneously writing and watching Zelda gameplay 👼 I think my emotions are like ten times worse rn because of my period so I’m just taking it easy but I have a huge party to go to this weekend and a lot of my friends are gonna be there so I need to get my shit together and stop being sad bc I don’t want to bring the mood down ☹️ why do I always have a party in the same week I feel like shit LOL the last time I had one my situationship and I got into a huge fight and my sister had to be checking on me like every 5 minutes bc I was borderline crying the whole night it was so embarrassing 😭 (I am so tired of crying over this same girl oh my god)

We are driving back home. The memorial service was thankfully more about supporting each other. I did not cry. If I think about it to hard I might. But I made it through a day that could have been a disaster but worked out because I made it happen. Im only a little proud of that.

I did not sleep great. I fell asleep easier then expected. But woke up with James's alarm and I couldn't fall back asleep. I was anxious about the day. I would get up at 7 when my brother texted me and I had to ask James to handle that while I got ready.

I would feel alright. A little absent of myself. Like I look in the mirror and I'm not connecting to my own eyes. That happens sometimes. But I tried to look good and was happy with my face and hair. The trim I gave myself last night I think helped.

James changed our sheets while I finished getting myself together. Then we hugged and I was off.

I forgot to bring any breakfast and I didn't want to stop anywhere. I also forgot the keys to the art building. But I was not interested in going inside. So I just didn't. I would make it work when I got to camp.

It was a nice drive. And I got there right before 8. And I got to be helpful right away because there was a guy at the bottom of the hill who was lost.

He was there to reseed the field but it was literally his third day and he was a little confused and wasn't given enough info. So I'm glad I was able to help. Once I got parked at the art building I walked down to the office and got Heather on the phone and she told me to send him to the feild. And I was able to help him figure out how to get his truck over there. We walked the feild together and I opened the fence.

While I waited for him to drive around I went to see if we had cake left in the freezer. Which we did so I was excited for breakfast cake. And then I called the doctor's.

They were really nice about it and changed my appointment to 1. So I could stay at camp until 1230. They were really chill about it. Which would be surprising later when I found out that everyone who normally comes on Monday came today because of the holiday (including me) and so they had twice as many patients as normal. And we're training two new injection people. So it was quite a day and I appreciate how kind they were getting my appointment changed.

I would help lawn guy move all the astroturf and collected any sports equipment I could find. And let him know I would be on the porch if he needed anything.

I went down to the office and set myself up at the table. I used my phone's hotspot since I couldn't get on the wifi with the door locked. But that's fine. I ate my, still mostly frozen, cake and worked on my laptop.

I finished tightening up a few things in my lesson plans and making sure the supply list was good to go. I would start making a list of where the tribes were speaking about are on the continent so I could circle that on the different maps. So each program will have a visual for where they are speaking about. Which I think will help them figure out what different natural resources would be available.

Heather would show up around then. She said we need to get me an office key. I'm not to worried about it. I will probably be more worried when it's cold out. Though I was really sweaty and was happy to get some AC.

Heather would help me get on the wifi and showed me how to scan things to my laptop. And then would spend the next hour working on my maps.

Lou, Alexi's dad, would come to talk to Heather about horses. Continues to forget who I am but remembered James. Handsome Jimmy as he call them. We talked about his granddaughter who is maybe going to Temple. For field hockey. So I got to talk about the nice things about philly. That was fun.

I would take a walk to the art building with the extra key. I put away the stuff I brought. And then took a walk to the nature center but it was locked. Heather likes my idea about the snail tank but we need to find the key to the building. Joe probably had it but he wasn't around. Maybe tomorrow I'll figure that out.

Heather would have me start collecting some emails. Which was not as straight forward as I was expecting. But I got some at least. And once I was at a good stopping point me and Heather went on a walk to woodlands.

We would write a list of things that I could work on down there. Painting. Creating. Cleaning. Moving furniture. It was nice to talk through the projects and the spaces. I'm pretty happy about it. But I was also starting to get slightly a little stressed about needing to leave for my appointment.

We would finish up exactly on time though. We got back to the office. Where Elizabeth and Alexi were and I said hello and then goodbye!

I stopped to fill my water and then I drove the 40 minutes to the rhumatologist. I got there 1 minute before my appointment.

Not that it mattered. They had my paperwork at the bottom of the pile, because I'm the last one usually. And they would get me back quick. But I could hear everything. And that's when I heard that they were crazy busy and backed up. So I would have a wait. About 49 minutes. Ah well.

The nice lady came and did my injections though and they hurt a bit today. But it's fine. I was glad it was done. I made my appointment for next month. And was out the door before 2.

I stopped over at the Dunkin and got munchkins to share with James. And then home.

When I got back to the house I was excited that there were packages. The screen protector came for my tablet. And a new dress I ordered. And a book. I found James trying to iron their shirt but the iron wasn't actually on so that was funny.

I got overheated trying to put the screen protector on. But I did my best and it's mostly correct. I'm just glad it's safer now. I was super sweaty though.

So I took a shower. And got dressed again. James made me a bagel. And I had an hour to just sit and calm down before we had to be on the road again.

We left at 345. And it wasn't a bad drive at all. We didn't have to deal with any traffic. We weren't driving directly into the sun. I was anxious but only a little. I brought my knitting and completed one square. We passed Jess's exit and we waved. We arrived in the town at 530.

We went to Wawa for gas. James felt weird that someone pumped our gas. But that's just jersey. And then we went inside and got sandwiches to eat in the car.

I was mostly just focusing on being with my husband. And that I was looking forward to hugging my family. I couldn't handle the other emotions. Those are very deep and I can't focus on them or I'll fall apart.

When we got to the funeral home I was convinced we were in the wrong place. There were a lot of people and I didn't recognize anyone so I was sure I messed up. And then my mom and my brother weren't answering me so I was sure I messed up.

But thankfully Steve would pull up and my parents and Felicia were with him. Everything was alright again.

And it was a lot of people. Sabrina's friends. Audrey's friends. AA people. Bikers. People in memorial sweatshirts. Which the turnaround in having that made was impressive.

We went in the line to see all the pictures of Sabrina. I forgot how dark her hair was when she was younger. Seeing all the pictures of her with friends. She looked so grown up.

Hugging everyone helped. Audrey and Nadine both kept saying thank you to me and James for coming. For driving so long. But honestly the only thing I could say was I wish I didn't have to be here. I wish this didn't happen. But there wasn't a chance I wasn't going to be here. I moved things to make sure I would be. It was important.

There was no service. I am glad. I would have lost it. Instead it was just everyone talking and supporting each other. It was good to be around all the people who loved Sabrina. And I particularly loved talking to my brother and Felicia. And I missed them both and it was just so nice to talk to them. The little moments feel so important. I am very worried how swollen my brother's hands were. He might have an infection from slamming his hand in a door and also poison ivy?? I hope he sees someone.

I also was glad to be with my parents. To talk to my aunt Nadine and uncle Dave who I love so much.

There was a lot of hugging. A lot of laughing. We were being as ridiculous as we normally are when we are all together. The Lentzs don't know how to now start talking about things that are probably not appropriate. We can't stop laughing when it's probably not appropriate. We supported each other by not talking about it but talking about everything else.

I enjoyed hearing about who was who from mom. And I told Nadine they need to come visit us. They went on a not great bus tour through Baltimore so I hope we can give them a better tour soon!!

But then it was time to go. The memorial was slowing down. People were leaving. We had many hugs. Nadine gave me a rose form the large bouquet. Me and Sabrina shared that middle name. I will dry some of the petals. I'll frame them.

Me and James got in the road. And we are about half way home now. I am going to finish my sandwich. And listen to this podcast. And try to just think about the good stuff. I love Sabrina and I will keep her in my thoughts forever.

a build from mid 2015 of my old game 'Mr. Waffle Lover', and why everyone should archive their work

hello. this is gonna be a quick little post to talk about something. as you might already know. i've been making games since 2014. one of my Very First projects was a game called 'Mr. Waffle Lover'. i have a Lot to talk about it, but i want to save that for later. For now, i have something else i need to talk about.

So. this project was/is pretty important to me. it was one of the first things i made Ever, before i was even called 'Unlimited Trees' and before i was involved in Any online communities. i was learning A Lot from making it... a lot of the stuff i did for it is Unrecognizable from my current work.. and i havent made anything like it since. it means a lot to me, at least now.

Back Then, However... i did not treasure my work as i did now. You See, this game went through TONS of iterations. from 2014 to 2017, this game went through many changes across Multiple different project files, all with different assets and programming. during the early days, when i gave up on one iteration of the project, i would simply Delete the old files off my computer. And Then, at the beginning of 2016 when i changed my username to 'Unlimited Trees', i deleted ALL of my old work.

TONS of old games ive made were lost. some of the Very First works ive done Ever are completely missing. years of work went down the drain because i wanted to move on from my old work. But as time passed.. i became more fond of my old work, but realized that i could Never see any of it again. and since i never shared any of it to anyone outside of a few old friends (who i dont even have contact with anymore), there was no way i could get any of it back.

But. about over a year ago or so, i went through my old laptop and was able to find a bunch of old files with quite a few of my old games... some of these files werent the latest builds of these games so there was still a lot missing, but i was So Glad i found them... i have So Much i want to share and talk about and im happy i can share at least a little bit of the work ive done alone for years. even if no one cares about some dumb old games, im at least happy i dont have to worry about losing them again..

ANYWAYS. about this build of 'Mr. Waffle Lover'. it is the fourth iteration of the game. it has ideas which no other iteration has done (mainly the 'TNT' jumps). it has art and levels which i kind of like compared to the other early iterations. and it actually Plays Kind of Good , even if it is a little janky and basic. unlike most versions of the game, i actually remember sending builds of this to old friends, but i dont know if they ever played it or even still have it (i doubt they do Lol).

there's a lot more i could probably say about this, but i dont have the energy right now and will probably talk about it later in another post about 'Mr. Waffle Lover'. i have a Lot to share about it... just now is not the time. the video i posted speaks for itself, i think. its just a simple platformer with a basic OC. theres some stuff that wasnt shown in the video, such as an unfinished boss fight. but aside from that, thats all there is to see.

anyways, the point of this post is that i want to encourage more people to archive their work and not do what i did and delete all your stuff. even if in the moment you dont think your stuff is important.. you should at least keep your stuff saved in case you ever want to look back at it. Especially if youve been making things for Years... you might want to see just how much youve grown.. thats how i feel anyways. i am still missing a ton of work that ive made.. and ive since tried to archive everything i make. ive been making games for 8 years, and i put a Lot of time into the stuff ive made.. i never want to throw out any of my work again.

omg zero you flatter me u silly goose….. 9 (what are ur file name conventions): ok so now i mostly draw in clip studio in these huge military testing polygons of files that span like 60-100 layers depending on the canvas size and just. literally screenshot the finished pieces in them BUT when i worked in photosopp (aka pisi) which is tremendously laggy even on my giga gamer laptop sometimes i used to name the files after whatever i thought of/saw on the internet at the moment of saving the file. so i got some lyrics in there, some made up schizo words, a lot of russian swearing and references to defecation, star trek lines and chicago street names in the older ones. examples: kkkkorego, jepasse, noodledog!, BETTER HUMAN, volare, CHINSUE, invest fund, THE SHIT BROTHERS, док для говна, водкапиво and shit in the display toilet. 25 (something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by): a mix of lumpy touch's gameboy garfield horror and tin tin. yea idk either but i kinda get it 4 (fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw): harry du bois because hes just so. amalgamous in my head i can never get his face right tho ive been drawing him for years now he just never looks how i want him to feel like. its kinda depressing honestly i would produce so much more material featuring him if i were happy w how he looked when he comes out from under my pen 1 (art programs you have but don't use): toon boom………. it was a fucking 18 inch diameter metal pipe up the ass to pirate and install properly and im just keeping it till i have the time+motivation+courage to start animating 2d. eh. also verve painter so i can show the wonders of technology to my friends lol (it sucks i wanna pirate that one real paint simulator that holo-tape and all the cool kids use…)

SUMMAREY!!! OF!! ART!!! 2021!! HELL EYEAH!!! This year has been so special for me in terms of art because this is the year where i FINAlLLY receieved a drawing tablet for christmas, and i havent stopped using it everyday ever since✨✨ like gosh i would not have done these art without my drawing tablet, and so i am SO grateful because this gosh darn things are ExpESNSIVE TSK TSK. Back then id just be drawing in my phone on medibang and then unto ibispaint [which i super highly recommened btw] and it was my introduction to digital art! tradition art tata!!! But yeah!! heres some of my most favourite art pieces per month! im still really proud of alot of these, and i cant wait to see how much i progress in art in the next year🙏🙏💖💖

First off, I want to say, your art is beautiful. the subtle surrealism and abstractness (idk if that's a real word lmao) you use is just fucking amazing. I don't know how you do it but your art is all just so cool. I literally look at your art for inspo when i have art block-

Second, If you don't mind me asking, what program+tablet do you use to draw? I'm trying to work more with digital art, but I don't really know what to do. I have a cheap entry-level tablet I'm currently working with, and I use some free art program i can't even remember the name of (yeah hella scuffed ik). I'm feeling somewhat confident where I'm at and would like to 'upgrade', but I just don't know where to go from here. With the digital art stuff I aspire to do, you'd definitely be one of the people I'd want tips/advice from! :)

And I may not be the best person to ask about tablets cuz I have a 12” ipad pro which I shelled out on but it’s also basically my laptop and I use it constantly for everything. I dunno if u would want a screen tablet if u have been working with a plug in one (I’ve literally forgot what that type of called rip) but a small iPad (double check if it’s compatible with the pencil and which one) would work great and I heard there are also some great Samsung tablets available which I’ve not tried out personally but I’ve seen people praise

For programmes I switch between procreate and clip studio paint. U do need to pay for both but they are worth it, but they both have their pros and cons. Procreate is wonderful but I don’t know why it takes up a lot of storage (21gb vs csp’s 3gb on my ipad) im sure I’m just too lazy to look into it, but that’s something to consider. Procreate has lots of really cool options for effects and brushes right under ur hand which I love. Csp is also really awesome, but I feel like it’s more geared toward people who are working with print specifications and who already have tools to load onto the app. It also seems like csp is meant more for desktop cuz of the layout and small tabs and it could be an issue if u are using a small screen. So consider which works best for u and start there, but whichever u choose its a great app

Some good news on my end, using money from all the super generous people who have commissioned me the past few months, I was able to afford a new laptop for myself! This will help me work way more efficiently on all the projects I'm doing at the moment! I'm still currently in the process of getting everything set up, but hopefully everything will be running at 100% asap! This is my first time buying and owning my very own personal full computer of any kind that wasn't a hand me down. I'm excited to make the most of it :)

my previous laptop was super busted up and old so it couldn't do much without overheating and experiencing massive slowdown. as well as a broken screen, meaning i had to hook it up to a tv which didn't allow for much privacy. so im really happy to be able to afford something new

Got my tablet set up, went WAY faster this time than my first haha. First drawing on a new laptop! woohoo! im gonna have to spend all night relearning how to personalize my art programs u_u

He is a very old member of the "night owl club". Unlike his bros, he is usually the one to go to bed very late or never go at all(until leo comes and yanks him to bed). He will surely love someone who stays up late at night with him, he enjoys the company.

Donnie is the nervous wreck king (remembers donnies 2014n"no pressure" chant?), though he seldom messes up but he still lose his nerve when he is put under a very tense situation.

Donnie is a deredere, he wont show emotions at first but the more you stay with him the more he opens.

He is fascinated with your digital art skills, he has saved your arts as his laptop,tab and mobile wallpaper. Once you gave him a tutorial he picked up fast and he became quite good.

Whenever he gets confused on some programming or some experiments related to computer, he will call you and ask for your advice.

On lazy nights, both of you will binge watch jane austen movies with your head rested on his chest and his big hand resting on your lap. Room decorated with purple fairy lights. Soon you will doze off on his chest,his heartbeat would be your lullaby.

When he is too engrossed on his work, you will bake something up for him and take notice if he has eaten anything or not. He loves that. He also amazed by your cooking skills and never shares your food with his bros(no matter how much mikey begs).

Though he is more of a coffee person but the tea you make are on a whole different level. He especially likes the herbal rose tea you make for him to cool and calm him if he has been overworking too much.

alright. after fuckign debating for 1000 years. i decided to purchase a SAI license for the the first time !!!

i used to draw on a crack 1.1.0 version on PC and do my editing and text shit in photoshop on mac BUT i want to move everything onto this laptop but i ran into 1000000 problems.

im using an acer spin 3, which is like a knock off microsoft surface, it comes with its own pen pressure pen that works a bit differently than wacom tablets. but i like the experience working with it.

SO my PS cs4 software was for mac so i cant use it on windows, AND the acer pen doesnt do pen pressure with my 10 y/o cracked SAI files either. BUT i figured out the SAI 2 beta can use the windows ink or whatever and i tested out the trial and i liked it alot

it does everything sai does PLUS text tools, rulers, filters etc 

im so fucking happy i’ll be able to do all my art on ONE computer and on ONE program w/o paying 10000000 dollars for photoshop

im very glad im finally able to support the sai developers with my purchase bc i just didnt have the funds before to get the software!!! if ur an artist i highly recommend SAI since its a lightweight program + easy interface + cool ass brushes options AND its only like 53 USD to own it

Aw, thank you! I can make suggestions but please continue your search for brushes that appeal to you just by trying new ones, too! I can only point you in the direction of some.

Tablet

I use a Wacom Intuos 4, XL (And I don't use the whole surface; its too big for my tiny arms so I only use the surface area of a medium Intuos 🤪). I don’t exactly recommend it, but if a secondhand Intuos 4 in medium or larger is cheaper than a new Intuos Pro (the technical equivalent in the current lineup), I would get this older model over the new ones. I’ve heard some mixed but good things about brands other than Wacom honestly, and I’d have to say if this tablet died now I’d probably try changing brands to something else with tilt and at least 2048 pressure sensitivity levels.

Software

Clip Studio Paint with an additional assistant program, Lazy Nezumi. Clip goes on sale a few times a year for like $25~50 and I think its GREAT. It’s designed for comic artists primarily but I personally love its brush engine. It also comes with the free resource Clip Studio Assets, where users can upload their own settings; every brush I’ve used in my last peices of art came from there I think. Theres thousands but I just go through the trending onces periodically for stuff that looks cool. I own Clip Studio EX because I needed some featurs but if you just draw you can get away with the DEBUT/PRO license (unsure what it’s called now). Lazy Nezumi is a stabiliser and helps keep my lines straight and my undos infrequent, it also have a bunch of neat tools like perspective rulers and stuff. Clip has inbuilt stabilisation, I just prefer it paired with lazy nezumi’s.

Brushes and Tools

As I mentioned, I use brushes almost exclusively from CLIP STUDIO ASSETS. On this first page, you can already see a bunch of the brushes and tools I regularly use. I also own the Frenden Big Brush pack.

Brushes used in my art:색연필 (Real Pen Set) - This took some searching because apparently I pulled it out of the set randomly and have been using it on its own for my lines for months. This is what all my apex doodles are drawn with; no clue if i changed any settings. I have one at 33px and one at 14px.Coloured Pencil - size 12, used for 300DPI illustration lines (I believe this is a CLIP default brush in the pencil tab)Admittedly no clue what I use for coloring/painting. I have my own personal textured brush made for laying down color (I’ll upload at some point), but I tend to just pick whatever random brush from my tab that looks right to polish/blend/render.
