nooo no sorries! this is really useful and EXTREMELY flattering to receive such detailed thoughts, i feel like im back in a School Crit Circle or something, which is really fun and helpful. Critique like this rlly helps me understand what people are bringing to my art when I make it and how it's getting interpreted, which as somebody who wants to tell understandable stories via images, is useful to me beyond what words can describe!

like—there's no "right" or "wrong" when it comes to interpreting art, there is my intention, but my intention isn't necessarily what comes out (like how kishimoto somehow accidentally wrote two teenagers who he meant for us to perceive as straight, in the pains and throes of love for each other. like he wrote that, whether or not he intended to. i dont even actually ship s/n bc it doesn't have The One Ingredient for me, but its...also something thats hard to ignore about the text)

and similarly, since theres no way to objectively read a text, when you read it you're putting it in your own context, finishing the painting yourself with whatever colors you've got in your palette to use

that said! I can answer for my intentions in some of these

The blood and the mask: Practically, you're 100% right! Mask needs to be off to get at the happuri. That he's got blood on both his mask, and his happuri, means that at some point in the battle, he lost his mask and then put it on. In terms of art, I did this because the juxaposition contrast between the blood and the small amount of joy he's taking in thinking about a scarecrow, felt really important, and I didn't want to lose that with the removal of the mask. I also put the blood splatter in the same place, coming in from Tenzō's left, and splattering upward across his forehead area. Practically, this would mean that he was in the same position by a spatter of blood twice, but symbolically this implies that he is or feels like the same with or without the mask—like u talk about them being the same entity. I didn't really do that intentionally though—like I didn't think about it. I just kinda was like "yea that feels right. anyway moving on."

No leaf on the happuri: I AGREE WITH YOU ABT THE SYMBOLISM...he doesnt feel connected to konoha in a Real way until he's co-captaining, I think. He needs to be allowed to LIVE in Konoha to be a part of it... That said, if I'm not drawing Captain Yamato Post-Sunlight-Exposure I straight up forget that he had the leaf at all–I know it's supposed to be a Danzō thing, but I keep thinking it's an anbu thing. Honestly, since I agree with the symbolism, whether or not I forget or make an intentional choice not to depict it really doesn't matter I suppose

The Zoom In: Kind of the same as the last! i felt in my heart that we had to zoom in...I didn't think about it in terms of ''lessening darkness'' although now that I've read you write that I like THAT reading much more—esp since so much of yamato's themes in canon seem to be about sunlight and darkness...there's an interesting reading of darkness lessening (because he takes up more space) without light gaining any footing (he's still, as always, situated in the dark) about like, the little things that one can do to manage their depression or a dark situation, even when they still aren't able to be fully FREE of it quite yet (if ever). I think, when I was thinking abt it, I was thinking about making Tenzō seem very small and alone in the first panel, and then even after thinking about Kakashi, he's not quite so small in the panel, even though he still remains alone. This being said, the darkness reading is much stronger than the loneliness reading, even though they go hand in hand, I much prefer your interpretation.

the red in the black: This is interesting!!!! I like your interpretations a lot...in terms of materials this is only black india ink, so there's no red actually in it, but in the photo I can see what you mean—the ink I'm using is shiny because the "matte" ink is twice the price of it and I'm a cheapskate, and it inevitably creates shines of color when scanned or photographed. Obviously though, the lack of intention or the material contrast doesn't mean you're wrong—I saw the colorful patches in the image and decided it was fine enough to post anyway, they're a piece of the art as it exists digitally! Open for critique and interpretation. I like the idea that the darkness is connected to the blood very much especially, because it is for Tenzō, isn't it?

thank you <3 Ive havd some thoughts but none are really solid. I think if an inkfish has been fully sanitized or oozed then it's a change that probably can't be reverted.

fully sanitized

- sickly! - dont produce regular ink. potentially harmful to healthy inkfish - dont need to eat - major scarring doesnt heal nor do cut limbs grow back - dont really have any personal drive, will, or ambitions but can be instructed to do things - cut sanitized octarian tentacles don't grow into other octarians

fully oozed

- retractable claws + paws + full tufts of fur on body - bodies are more resilient than inkfish. tougher skin - no swim form - tentacles acts like fur and grows back when cut. arm/leg limbs dont - arm/leg limbs of fuzzy octarians also dont grow into other octarians -instead of ink produces a less potent fuzzy ooze

partially oozed inkfish are probably easier to distinguish from a fully oozed one than a partially sanitized inkfish is to a fully sanitized one. the partially oozed tend to have less fur and are able to shift into swim form with some work, but the partially sanitized can still look like theyre at the 100% mark (dedf1sh for example). im not sure the bluegreen skin tint and dark sclera would go away unless that sanitizing was like a reaaal small amount. for the most part a partial oozing can be treated and after some time they'll be aight. they'll probably still have a lil bit of body hair tho.

do you have any tips on how exactly to practice art? everytime I ask for art advice everyone always says "practice" but idk what to practice first! do you have any strategies for learning how to draw something? do you do excercises? and if so how do they work?and are there any beginner mistakes I should look out for and change specifically?

thank you so much! im ok w answering! i dont want to speak as if i am an expert on how to draw things in general as i am learning as well and definitely am not completely learned, so i might not be the best person to ask since im not very professional w my art as I do it as a hobby (and I can only speak on mostly digital cartoon matters) but i reallly hope to try and help u out even a lil ! im really happy that you’re eager to draw :] I wish you so much luck muwah muwah

i also hated when ppl told me “just practice” and i dont wanna inflict tht on u EITHER LOL but also thats just what i ended up doing for awhile but i tried to find some things to help ^_^

tips for practice: My number one rule is that practices should be challenging but still fun, I know it can get frustrating trying to redraw a pose over and over trying to get it perfect. And over time it rlly is all about muscle memory, the longer you draw the more your eyes will pick out specific shapes in everyday life and convert them into its own vision of them! or at least its good to look at life that way, try to pin point key shapes and stress less on details in practices. after you look at key points, THEN you can go over what you have and draw in and over it to make it more “complete.” To stop practices from getting too stressful I recommend starting out drawing what you want a little more simple looking than ur desired finished product. This helps eliminate the pressure of everything not looking “perfect” and keeps your art more loose and fun. Doing this a few times is gonna get ur brain to recognize patterns in art and how things look/flow in anatomy and such. dont get stuck in ur own head abt perfecting everything to the point you either 1) give up bc ur not at a level capable of it being 100% “perfect” or 2) focus so much on making it perfect that you end up saying the work looks “wonky” or stale in dynamics, So while I do think studies help, don’t get too lost in them. I always practice with media I enjoy too, whether it’s characters or fashion I enjoy.

Strategies learning to draw something: people get mad abt this one but I think tracing reference photos is great. its been awhile but When I tried learning to draw hands better at first I would trace them then put the traced image to the side of the canvas, then try and replicate what my mind saw as its most important angles and aspects. Same for clothing folds/hair/etc! I think it’s maybe not the best idea to trace the ref and use the tracings as is, because you learn more from tracing it then trying to replicate and simplify what u learned into the style you’re working in. Find what shapes you like from them and don’t over detail it. you may have to go by eye and think “what parts of this ref photo should i simplify to fit my style” and for me, its usually adjusting the length of the torso and then the limbs by associations. i dont recommend feeling like u need a reference for every art you make though, its ok to let ur own head try out its own sometimes too while trying to learn this, see if it remembers any call bad from the past referenced sketches! over time ull remember where everything goes more, these days i rarely kick myself to use refs but im sure they still would help to use, but figure drawing simple blobby figure in a bunch of random poses was a big thing i used to do as well to get better at full body art + overall dynamics (still does this). also paying attention to silhouettes is great

Exercises and how they work: I WANNA HELP U SO BAD BUT to be honest, all the works on my blog ARE exercises! i rarely actually do finished pieces, if u scroll thru my posts ull notice most r sketches. i usually just fill up a page and call it “warm ups” then i get attached to some of them, take a few, and just line them up pleasingly on a smaller page, then color them in (or sometimes fix the lines to be more clean too). im not rlly a person who “exercises” to practice, it more so happens from just me drawing a lot for fun as a hobby! but i really should. i will tell u this has humbled me a lil i need to start practicing too 😭 LOL but a good exercise is to look at what ur inspirations do, and study it. Make a collage and write out what you like most abt their styles/what u want to gain from them. For ref Here’s a page I did awhile ago when someone asked me abt my insps:

i also look at fashion magazines and as well as anime figures and take insps from that sometimes with learning cool poses and compositions to convert into my own things

Beginner mistakes to look out for: its hard for me to pin point “mistakes” beginners make, as sometimes we cant avoid all of them or even notice them, progress comes from growing out of old ways. some mistakes are even the foundation of ur future amazing cool style! but i think some things to look out for could be these, from my own old art experiences

Hands were the first thing I learned bc i liked drawing them. I don’t know if that is the best way to go but I think it is smart to practice sooner than later, here is a lil guide thingggyyy wingyyy from awhle ago

i see beginners shy away from drawing signs of age in people, sometimes adding too much detail on an older person in cartoon art makes it look weird, so i try and hit the key markings on ppls faces of age.

Too thin of lines. sometimes its a stylistic choice to use thin lineart, and it can look amazing ! but sometimes it can flatten an image if ur not familiar with its flow. im not saying use thick line art, but more so to keep in mind the weight of ur strokes, adding depth with a thick thin combo of line art can do SO much for the simplest of pieces. heres a visual from a while back when i talked abt my brush + more abt lines:

but if ur desired style is thin lineart that is cool too! tbh it was just harder for me as a beginner

sometimes artists think they need to do full lineart for everything and then hate how it looks compared to the sketch, do not fear i will introduce u to my bff: painting over a sketch, extractinging the lines, then calling it line art. i only do this sometimes but its a fun exercise-ish thing to do in a pinch. example:

finding what shading fits ur art. sometimes ill see ppl starting out who have a style thats very simple, but they use a very detailed rendering process on it. this is not something id ever police of course, art is each persons own choice! And it CAN work. It can be so cute! but sometimes mixing two very contrasting mediums of art can throw off the “put together” look of it. i use to abuse the airbrush tool thinking it made my simple style look super cool and detailed, but looking back on it now those pieces looked a little off, having such a simple style have somewhat more realistic shading. dont get me wrong the ability i see ppl use rendering like that is so insanely talented! but i found cellshading to be a good match for cartoony art like my own. a tip i learned way too late abt that is rather than shading each layer by color picking a darker color, instead use a clipping mask over the entire art (above line art too as I color my lineart) and lasso tool the areas u want shaded + fill it w a saturated purple then set to multiply + lower opacity. also, sometimes coloring can come out chalky looking when u meant for it to be smooth and transitional, i think this comes from overshading and overlighting pieces without reason. pay attention to where the light source is, and focus on making the shaded and lighter areas nice shapes that cover the necessary areas, then u can add additional shading to the smaller details of what should have a casted shadow/light

its good to spice up ur art now rather than later, focusing making ur art pop more w backgrounds will help ur coloring skills look better too! i dont mean detailed huge backgrounds, a small lil color pallet and design rather than a blank white bg. like this will make u feel better abt it or at least it helped me *sweats* yeah:

beginners tend to draw blank faces like “:)” but I think a good thing to do is try and get silly with expressions early on. It’s okay if the mouth hangs off the face cartoonishly with joy or shock, it’s ok if the eyebrows are super high in surprise.

tracing and pasting it as is (already said this but I’ve seen ppl do it a lot with hair styles and it makes it look alienated from the rest of the style) (final fantasy fans found critically injured) n if need a ref for a pose, using a real humans anatomy as-is doesn’t look quite right on a cartoonyish drawing. Shortening torso and legs usually comes out of this for me!

flip ur canvas i promise u it’ll be less embarrassing over time!

using guidelines for perspective and foreshortening is GREAT. Do it stylistically rather than realistically to add some groove to it...yay. Having silly perspective in art can make it look like a 10 so easily opposed to a normal front facing sketch. Look at cool poses from fashion magazines! Don’t be scared to draw something you don’t feel confident in conveying perfectly, this is why progress redraws exist :)

Drawing the hairline b4 u draw the hair is great, it helps u understand where their hair flows from, where it starts and stops, AND prepares u for drawing bald ppl. Also don’t make the head too big, the skull IS bigger up top, but sometimes I see an alien head affect.

Anatomy is an interesting mistake that beginners make a lot, but it’s one they find harder to notice! When I started out, all my art would be SO wonky, but I didn’t even realize it! It still happens today too! specifically though I see beginners struggle with the arms in this department. My advice is to try and measure them out and make sure they don’t go past the knees, and are the same length as each other when Unfolded. asking for criticism is hard but it helped me realize when i would make something bigger/longer than it should have been in my art, and stuck with me being able to go “oh... i see it LOL”

clothing wrinkles- do not over do it! Too many wrinkles and shading can look unpleasant and wirey- like a plastic table cloth all bunched up which isn’t exactly what ppl wear. pay attention to gravity too

oh 100% absolutely yes. my writing and art style both! my art style is very much influenced by whatever media i am into at the time for the simple fact that i do a lot of style mimicry! so the art im replicating makes its way into my own work.

and also my art in general has improved? my awareness of anatomy and how i pose characters has upgraded recently especially, i think.

24. What's your favourite thing about [Isabeau]?

the copout answer is hes just like me frfr.

the more earnest one is that hes incredibly cleverly written and that clever writing makes moments of his that could fall flat all the more effective. hes a smart character. he shows hes smart throughout the game - way before we as an audience learn that hes smart. but its quick enough that we still fall for the mask he puts up.

theres a certain level of 'fake it til you make it' that exists in queerness. you cant just become someone with a new personality over night. but you can sure try. and when you do that you might end up abandoning parts of yourself that you didn't realize you'd miss.

i also really appreciate his like of fashion because it makes it easy for me to give him strong symbolism! because i like fashion!!

My personal favorite Daily c!Ranboos, in order of posting!

Now that it's finally over, I feel like its appropriate to share all the daily c!Ranboos I'm the most proud of, and the reasons why I like them so much.

I'll probably redraw some of these in the future!

Under the readmore bc its long and has lots of pics!

Day 5 - Brain Fried

Looking back to it, this one isn't all that great compared to other Daily c!Ranboos I have done, but it's the first one I did in which I tried to make an actual composition rather than just. Drawing c!Ranboo. So it's kind of an important one!

Day 13 - Allium

Kind of similarly as Brain Fried, this one is kinda rough in the edges when looking back on it, but I loved the eerie vibe of it, and the effort of using a more limited palette!

Day 21 - Bouquet

It's just cute. He looks so squishy! Not much more to add tbh :)

Day 22 - Under the Weather

I personally love how I made the effect of them "disintegrating" due to contact with water look! I like how the particles flow :) I love how I made the effect of the water dripping, how it could kinda look like tears running down their face. I used "Under the Weather" in both a literal and metaphorical sense!

Day 28 - Tears

I like the expression and colors :) tbh the tears could be better but otherwise I like it.

Day 32 - Awake

It's soft, comforting, bright, warm, I love the way I did the colors SO MUCH! The expression is everything to me, I like how their hair looks. Also you might notice that I have 100% used the same colors for Revival and Freedom.

Day 34 - Arrival

I just like their goofy expression and how much of a twig they look. Silly lad

Day 38 - Butcher Army

I LOVE the expression and the limited color palette! While theres bits that could be improved upon this is one of my best compositions here.

Day 39 - Apprentice

Technoblade.

Day 41 - Memory Book

I like how the anatomy looks here! Looks very sleek and natural I guess? I love how the tail lies on the ground. I just can feel the weight here a bit.

Day 44 - Doomsday

The blue sky with the bright red flames, the lighting, c! Ranboo's silhouette, idk this is just very pleasing to look at!

Day 64 - Revival

I can't even elaborate on how much I love this one, it's probably The Best drawing (drawings?) of Daily c!Ranboo! I used the same color palette as Awake bc I wanted to give it the same comforting and soft vibe, I love how fuzzy it all looks, how quiet it seems...Also its a comic too! I speedran that in 3 or so hours and im so damn happy with it.

Day 67 - Light

The colors are very nice, I like the lighting!

Day 76 - Dance

I like the poses! I tend to struggle to draw c!Tubbo but he looks very cute here. I think I made c!Ranboo a bit too short but tbh it was a challenge to make the pose work!

Day 82 - Windy

I like the colors, the expression, AND THE HANDS!! Its fuckign wimdy!

Day 89 - Void

HORROR VIBES! I wanted to do at least one creepy-looking drawing for this challenge that I liked and this is the one for sure!

Day 90 - Stars

I like the colors a lot here! The way he looks up to the sky with the big ol' eyes and his pose feels so natural.

Day 91 - Birthday

I may have speedran this in like an hour and a half but GOD I just LOVE the symbolism in this drawing! The balloon because birthday! But its black because death! Ghostboo is the one holding it because they're the one in the overworld after all. How c!Ranboo looks down while Ghostboo stares at them!

Day 92 - Freedom

I used the same palette as Awake and Revival, it just felt right! I tried my best to do a piece that'd be forth of being the "sendoff" for the daily c!Ranboo series, and I do think it holds up!

Why do people keep dismissing Jikook acts of love? Why do they compare apples with oranges and say that orange is an apple?

I'm talking about the Jimin visited JK on his birthday vs Jimin visited Hobi for his solo stage (which solidified my love for both J-Hope, Jimin and Jihope even more).

Why do people have to use one act of love to dismiss another act of love?

I don't get the need to always use one example to try and falsify every thing Jikook do.

This is not nature science, where we can use the principle of falsifying (aka you say all swans are white, so I will find you that one black swan to disprove your assumption).

This is human interaction (which, compared to natural science is indeterministic, so falsifying doesn't work).

Not only are people comparing apples to oranges, they also completely ignore how many oranges there are.

Can't we just appreciate the entire fruit basket without dismissing the oranges?

I 100% fully agree with you. And I'm just going to take a chance to address my thoughts over a lot of the talking points I've seen people throw around on the topic. @akookminsupporter had an anon that actually summed up all those talking points fairly nicely in one post. So I'm going to just address that. Thanks to that anon for pulling most the commentary together in one place I guess.

Yes. You are. You are taking two different events, with wildly different context and making it about how Jimin treats everyone the same and is making it about OT7 and then some too. It's a little better but still similar to the people saying that Jimin was there as a representative of BTS as a whole. At least you are giving him his own anatomy with his own friendships I guess. Even if you are putting them all on the same playing field instead of talking about how special and wonderful Jimin treats the people he cares about and makes efforts for them individually. What is said here is literally the definition of OT7ifying Jimin being there for his friends and Jimin flying to Korea for JKs birthday. That is 100% what people are doing with this comparison.

"Jimin was with JK and sungwoon on their birthdays."

Yes. And he was with Tae on his, Joon on his, Yoongi on his, Hobi on his, Jin on his.... I'm sure he made efforts for his other friends birthdays when he could there too. Even if we didn't hear about it. What's the point other than to make what Jimin did for JKs birthday LESS special? Because it's not working. You are still missing the point of the context behind these situations and are actually diminishing them all. To add on to all that... Jimin showed up at Sungwoons house to celebrate his birthday with him taking time to make his friend feel special, at their own homes when both were in Korea. Very special. Very sweet. Jimin is a wonderful friend.

He flew from Korea to Chicago to see and support Hobi through an important and major milestone for his bestie and his hyung. He said he felt it was important to do so as Hobi had shown him songs at the company and he wanted to continue to show that support. Jimin also apparently has rumors from K media of personal schedules happening in the US too during this time. So it seems he added a few extra days to the start of his trip to see his hyung and an important moment for him. It's beautiful and amazing.

And both these moments being brought up are a drastically different vibe and effort than coming to Korea in the middle of all his other plans, travels and holidays for a single day JUST for JKs birthday and then going off again right afterwards. There was no convenience there, no other reason to do what he did. Nothing else he could do during the few hours he was home in Korea, other than make JKs birthday special. He took time out of all his other plans to do so. He met up with Sungwoon late in Hawaii to make sure he was there for JK. As well as having it set all up as a trick surprise making JK think he wasn't going to make it and how meaningful it was when he did. If you don't see the difference there, is because you don't want to. And that's fine, nothing I can do about that.

"Jimin was only there with Jk when he was injured but similarly jimin was only one inside the room with RM when he injured his leg too and there are other 100 examples which shows he treats them all with same love."

Well this one just simply is the story being twisted to make your verison of it sound better. Sorry. You want to talk about the difference there, I would love to. Let's talk about how Jimin was given preferential treatment by members and staff in regards to Jungkook while he was injured. In fact, I already did. You can read that post here. And here. And while I'm sure it meant a lot to Joon to have someone there with him while he was getting his leg wrapped, all the other members stayed and hung around as long as they could according to their schedules. And Jimin stuck around because he was ALSO injured and getting treated by the med staff AT THE SAME TIME for the hard fall he took on stage previously. This doesn't mean that Jimin wouldn't have otherwise stayed if Joon wanted him too also, but the way these situations were handled were different AND in this case, Jimin stayed due to his own injury. So the example here isn't totally accurate. Sorry.

Ah well. That's the beauty of opinions. They start and end with YOU. Or at least. They are supposed to. The internet has given everyone an inflated idea that their opinions matter more than they actually do. Post your "jikook ain't special" opinions in your own space. The only reason to come and share it on jikook blogs is because of ego. You don't think this is just your opinion, you think you are right and that your opinion is best and therefore you have a right to force it on others. Even me, this isn't my anon. Yet I'm breaking down their ask like my opinion matters. It doesn't. But at least I'm doing it on my own blog space where I share my thoughts and opinions. And everyone else can come and go as they please.

No one is a monolith though and if you actually wanted to explore why most jikookers think they are together, you'll find it's for a lot more reasons than just one or two things and it's a lot more than simply vague answers and projections. I doubt Rosie's anon will see this. Or maybe they will. But I'd recommend my masterlist regardless because it gets into a lot of those reasons. And I just don't get the JK is a common factor comment at all..... But the reason jkkrs think there might be something romantic between jimin and jungkook has always been and always will be due to the culmination of many moments, including the consistency and some exclusivity of some of those moments.

Yes, shocker. Jimin is an incredibly kind, caring and beautiful person. Everyone who meets him says so. And he especially cares about the well being of his members. But squashing them all down as "the same" does a disservice to how special Jimin is and how wonderfully he always makes sure to treat his relationships with people like the unique and special bonds they are. He is incredibly adapt at speaking his friends love languages and his EQ is off the charts. That doesn't change that there is a mark difference in jikooks relationship and how they speak about it together than others. Even if you don't think they are romantically involved.

The condescending tone here at the end of the message also is incredibly off putting. It speaks to the ignorance so many people have of what most jikookers think and why they think that way. As well as the ignorance of assuming every relationship someone has is exactly the same. Ignorance is not unusual by any means. It is honestly the natural state of the human mind, you can't know what you don't know, that's okay. But there are many who will defend sanctity of their ignorance without an attempt to open their own minds, and then expect you to be impressed with their efforts at the end of it. Most of the time, we won't be. If you watch content from the past 9 years and the more we get with an unbiased mindset, perhaps it will become more and more clear to you too. 😊😊

I'll leave this here by saying I do have a why jikook are different post that touches on some surface level thoughts about this in a similar topic too.

noo, bc i fucking feel yall. bc a fic i read thr other day?!? "gn!reader" the next line is "reader could arguable be considered afab" and then out of no where the fic uses female anatomy terms??? the reader is not "arguably" afab. it is afab, and a warning tag like "afab!reader, but no pronouns used" would have been a better explanation for your fic.

i fucking DESPISE when people do that and refuse to put the actual gender of the reader in the actual post or the tags. its really not that hard. as someone who writes both female and male readers, i know how to tell my viewers which one they are so they csn steer clear of something they dont like. its just female readers r considered "the standard" or "the default" with both female and male characters. (finding fem char x male reader is the hardest thing on earth omg but anyways)

and untagged drabbles are the WORST at this. there's no gendered tag and no warning at the top of the post so i assume the reader is gender neutral only to ve bombarded with fem terms. even if a creator doesnt want to put the reader's gender in the fic warnings, but it in the tags. it really isnt that hardddd. all tumblr writers need to have a seminar about tagging fics correctly and stating what is actually in your fic. or we all need to learn a03 etiquette or smth. bc being a male reader sucks😭

dude yesterday i saw a fic that was legit tagged “gn reader, reader is called mama.” like how is that a coherent statement. it’s almost comical to me. one of infinite examples of what it’s like to look for fics on tumblr. like im BEGGING and PLEADING to people to think about what the neutral part of gn means.

i hate also when writers do “gn!reader that could be seen as female” when 90% of the fic makes it so so obvious like shut up that’s totally fem reader.

when people use afab as some cool fancy ass synonym for woman also irks the shit out of me but that’s a whole other conversation.

i fucking wish putting “character x female reader” or whatever gender in the actual tags itself was a much more common practice so filtering would actually do something. unfortunately the only people who actually do it consistently are of course the ones who write male reader fics.

like people shouldn’t be allowed to leave their fics untagged if it isn’t 100% gender neutral. like give me some indication god please. it’s even worse when i’m going through the blue lock tag so most of it is just untagged fem smut drabbles so it’s like a double smack in the face for me. like give me a heads up at the very least.

honestly i should just start fining people whenever they screw up with their tags. like straight up start demanding money for emotional damage charges.

(speaking of fem char x male reader, once i transition into more multifandom, i’m for sure gonna start doing those as well. the lack of them just makes me so so sad)

You probably do a lot of life drawing seeing as how perfectly fluid your art always is so this ask might be redundant lol but,, i was wondering what kind of references you usually use? Do you just google similar poses, does it come from your mind, or do you have a go-to app to look through like pinterest?👉👈 i ask bc I struggle a lot with poses and usually when i look them up i end up drawing nothing bc its not. Ever good enough for me/what im looking for lol😔 still not sure how to even draw characters smoochin, rip

thank you, nonny!! i do a lil bit of life drawing, but man i really do feel the same way you do. while i'm happy to show some art when i get it done, the process can be a real struggle.

sorry this is gonna be long and all over the place lol hope it helps tho:

life drawing good: i recommend ditching the idea of finding the 100% Perfect Ref right off the bat. studying anatomy and life drawing (this site has a range of body types and fun poses) somewhat regularly, therefore growing my mental library so that i can try and make whatever pose is in my head happen later, has been more viable to me than spending hours looking for the Perfect Ref.

drawing a bunch of generic people skating without pressure of creating proper character art is good practice, and it primes me to then come up with a skating pose of my own.

ref hunting: i save pictures i might use as refs regularly in a browser folder - good refs, bad refs, boring refs - losing a ref standard can be helpful because at the end of the day it’s what you make with it, so it doesn’t have to be particularly mind-blowing to begin with. you don’t wanna reinvent the wheel or create the most never-been-done-before pose, you just wanna get a thing right.

pinterest is very good for poses, yes, though you have to know how to look for them - i.e. i found that typing out "dynamic pose" will not yield organic results, as opposed to looking up people in motion like athletes, boxers, skaters and such. for fighting, i recommend using photos or clips from (ideally staged lol) fights, as opposed to stock images where the models are standing for a while posing - the former preserves a lot of the movement. i also recommend looking up group photos from events or shows for interesting natural poses and people interacting.

best hot tip of all tho: what helped me most is to not treat references very religiously. don't be tied down by what's in your ref, or not finding the perfect one, because then you're focusing on accuracy and not necessarily on what you wanna communicate with your drawing. if you can't find what you're looking for in full, just use a part that you find interesting, and then bullshit the rest and revise accordingly.

idea-generating can be very hard but you can practice it like any other skill, because having a decent idea of what you wanna draw is helpful - you don't have to have the whole pose visualised 100%. it's the mood, body language and expressions, that i think are more important. looking at refs can help reveal your ideas and intentions, but i will not create them for you i’m afraid.

for example, speaking on characters smooching, i've drawn these using refs in pretty uptight way with no ideas beforehand - and i find them painfully boring because they're not rly communicating anything aside from a anatomical accuracy (more or less);

i was being too intent on staying faithful to the reference, and they're looking kinda stale to me. the only one that was done without any ref, was the bottom left - which i like! bc it's got spice and it’s portraying some emotion.

but i wouldn't have drawn it if i hadn't already started on the others, so maybe another good tip is to trust the process and not give up mid-work!! drawing stuff you’re not proud of is still drawing stuff, and not everything you create is gonna be satisfying. things are gonna click here and there, but you never know when, so don’t give up on your ugly artsy ducklings!!

In one of your tags you mentioned you went to a witch school (if I remember correctly) and learned properly on occult studies. I was kinda curious about that, how did you find it? How did you find out it was legit? Where I live there was a famous New England witch trail that occurred so we’re kinda swarmed with the popularized version vs the legit witch craft

i'll tell you the exact name of it if you dm me!

but i honestly just found out about it by talking to a coworker. she had recently graduated the program and seemed to enjoy it, so i gave it a shot. i don't live near the school but they offered classes online.

im not going to lie, i was super skeptical of it at first -- as i am, honestly, with all new age beliefs and religions. what i think helped me choose this school is that they don't care if you believe in what they believe, and you can drop out at any time. they also don't care how much you get involved with them and any money requirements are based on a sliding scale so they can accommodate people who can't afford the rate of compensating the teachers. (edit: the only money fees actually are just compensating the teachers for their time in which they make class materials for you, teach you, and review your homework)

i also read up a lot on cults before joining, tbh, to make sure it wasn't a cult. and, like yeah, anything can technically become a cult with the right language and wrong people -- but i'm pretty sure it's no more a cult than an average christian church or, like, crossfit.

now, i don't believe in everything this school teaches -- some specific teachers teeter the line of cultural appropriation in their personal practices and ideas, and that's not something i agree with -- so i mostly just try to think critically about all the information they give me (even if I agree with it) and they 100% welcome that!

they teach from a variety of sources and from a variety of non-closed practices, and even have speakers from closed practices give guest lectures sometimes so us outsiders to the practices can learn some reputable info and perspectives.

i also like that they're very science first. even when we talked about healing stuff, my teacher was like, "look me in the eyes. i personally believe that healing energy exhanges and traditional herbalism can help with ailments like a sore throat or achy muscles. but. BUT. listen to your doctor. what we do is not genuine treatment for serious issues, mental or physical. science is real and we will cover some anatomy basics in the next modules to prove how science is real, even though we all believe in magick to some degree."

their books are also available to the public and they have some free classes/ceremonies/festivals as well.

anyways, that's how i learned about it and that's how i know it's legit! (as legit as a magick school can be, like that kinda just comes down to personal belief at some point) i'm probably going to take some more classes with them in the future.

Octonauts high school headcanons! Because high school has been kicking my ass, lol :’)

I know it’s, like, pretty much canon that scouts replace school in this universe, but I’m still gonna imagine this because it’s fun.

Barnacles:

* One of those seniors who “adopts” underclassmen; very protective of his children.

* Seriously he probably has, like, an army of freshmen and sophomores who see him as their dad.

* The football coach keeps incessantly harassing him to join the football team because he’s big and strong. I think eventually he would cave, but I also think it would be hilarious if he kept just passive-aggressively going “no thank you :)”

* he’d 100% be one of those try-hards in gym class im sorry

* His favorite class is music. He probably joined choir since he has such a good voice.

i use photoshop! I have used CSP as well, and i recommend it, ive just gotten so used to my work pipeline in photoshop and havent had the time to learn a whole new software lol.

my number 1 brush that i use for sketching and lineart i got from me-za-me-ro about 100 years ago. They updated their brushes recently, so i'm not 100% sure this is the same brush, but here's a link to their brushes if you would like (i think the brush i use is the line brush). I do also occasionally use loish's brush set for painting, but other than that I mostly just use photoshops default brushes for everything.

as far as tips go, it's not really a matter of what im "comfortable" sharing (i will give tips always as best i can!) i just genuinely think art tips are a case by case basis and youre best bet will be to like. google stuff as you go lol. theres lots of stuff i still dont know how to do and will have to look up tutorials mid drawing (i have to google "how to draw magic effects" at least once a week)

actual genuine only "tricks" i have to offer at any given time are:

flip your canvas frequently while drawing because it makes wonky anatomy way more obvious

anatomy is important to learn but sometimes impossible poses just look better

just take a picture of your hand and trace it. why waste half an hour struggling to draw a thumb when you could not do that, just trace your hand. seriously just do it.

hmmmmmmmmm im looking at Poppyseed and she looks... a little thin?

for sprickets, "thinness" manifests as a short butt and, while it could be her stance, Poppyseed's butt looks a bit short to me. i cant help but go into "concerned mother" mode in this situation, particularly because when Baguette passed away (presumably from old age), her butt had shortened to the point of being almost nonexistent. heres a pic of her the day before she died:

im not 100% sure what to do about this. maybe I'll give her a little applesauce snack?

either way, I'll be keeping an extremely close eye on her.

bagels been looking good though, thankfully!

im wondering if females live shorter lives due to how their internal anatomy must differ in order to accommodate egg laying, and that once they kinda... cant lay any more eggs, they start to die? dunno. im trying to find information on the topic but not coming up with any results.

i suppose as i keep sprickets over hopefully many years to come ill start to notice a pattern. Poppyseed is my first (and currently only) captive bred spricket, so i have no solid numbers irt lifespan of a spricket yet. my guess would be a year, and Poppyseed is about to turn 11 months old tomorrow, so...

anyway, im gonna try not to agonize over it all. Poppyseed is active and id like to think happy, to whatever extent sprickets can experience such a feeling. at the very least, her needs have always been met as long as she's been alive, and thats more than 99.9% of sprickets have the privilege of!
