Ellie’s eyes were starting to feel heavy as she poked her head around the doorframe to the living in search for Joel, a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. She spotted him sitting on the couch, book in hand, using the reading glasses Ellie liked to endlessly tease him about. The book he was reading was tilted slightly to receive the light from a nearby lamp, the glow the only source of light in the room, all of the lights in the house turned off to match the darkness of outside.
He glanced up and smiled softly when he noticed her, and she took it as an invitation to stumble over to him and flop down onto the couch next to him, tucking herself closely against his side. He chuckled softly and wrapped an arm around her, causing her to snuggle closer against him.
“Tired?” He asked, glancing down at her. She blinked sleepily back at him and yawned.
“Nope.” She glanced at the book he was holding. “What’re you reading?”
“Nothin’ that would interest you,” he replied, marking his page before closing the book and placing it on a nearby desk. His thumb on the hand he had around her had begun to rub small circles onto her shoulder, and her eyelids began to droop even more. He took his other hand and gently ran it through her hair. “It’s gettin’ late, baby girl. You wanna go to bed?”
“No,” Ellie mumbled, shoving her face into his side and squeezing her eyes shut. “Wanna stay here.”
“You have to go to bed soon, or you’ll be tired tomorrow,” he pointed out, his voice a comforting rumble in her ears.
“Fuck tomorrow,” Ellie yawned. “‘M never tired.”
“If you say so.” He adjusted himself so that Ellie was lying on top of him, face buried into the crook of his neck, one hand between her shoulder blades as he rubbed gentle circles on her back and the other gently playing with her hair. Ear pressed against his chest, she could hear the soft thumping of his heart, over and over again, a comforting thump, thump, thump, and soon she felt the pull of sleep draw her in.
Joel shifted slightly and Ellie clung onto his shirt, making a small noise of protest. He bent down to press a small kiss to the crown of her head and murmured, “I’m not goin’ anywhere, honey.”
Ellie relaxed against him again, and she thought she heard him whisper, “goodnight, baby,” before all of the other sounds around her began to slowly fade, nothing but the soft thump, thump, thump of his heartbeat echoing in her ears before sleep finally took her.

hm hm hm i feel like this will be really interesting to read with the knowledge of korra and how that effected her instead.... because korra (from my limited knowledge so i could be talking out my ass here) knew she was the avatar at an early age and DID get that community. she had katara and her parents, she had her mentors, she was isolated from the real world during so and perfected the elements other than air (which i kinda recall her struggling with and how its the opposite element of earth so im excited to see if those kinda play out :3) and she was more eager to be the avatar and the excitement and significance it brought (which was a bit clouded by her being sheltered but also would have been expected more before the war impacted things)
i also remember matty saying kyoshi struggled with earth bending (which im super excited to get to and see/see her journey and how it will differ) but!!! i just think its really fun how theyre kinda off the bat setting up this expectation and new grounding for readers who have a past grasp of the avatar universe. even as someone who isnt super familiar with the lore, i know enough to recognize that oh! thats something new!! so just kudos to the writer(s?) for just setting this up to be something very different and in a natural way :3

Writing Tip: Challenge your characters
Don't give your characters easy outs. If you can make a choice that would make it harder for your characters, or a choice that would make it easier, go for the hard one.

some more thoughts about Andromeda's conservatorship:
their conservator has legal ownership of them and everything they represent. it started off as them becoming their guardian when they were itty bitty, but after a bad episode that was unfortunately public, they were coaxed into the conservatorship they're currently in. it wasn't a huge change honestly though because they were already used to being so restricted in everything they do. they're EXTRAORDINARILY sheltered, and not just in a "you haven't had to experience bad things" way.
I think their conservator/guardian is a normal dude when they're not working with Andro. they have a husband and some fur babies, nieces and nephews they love very much, and are all-around seen as a charitable, good person by the media, although as reclusive as Andromeda themself is. they've compartmentalized their mistreatment of Andromeda. Andromeda is a brand, a thing, they aren't a person to them anymore- maybe they were in the beginning, but certainly not now. they make their job "easier" by thinking of Andromeda less as someone with needs and more of a checklist minimum of things they have to accomplish in order to maintain the brand by keeping the icon compliant.

Hello! So, I was wondering if you knew what happened to the part of the book Sigma was written into existence with? (This is for a fic im writing and google had 0 answers so I ask you, only other bsd watcher i feel i can ask) If you don't know I'm just gonna write it disappeared after he was created or something.
hii!! i believe the pg that the doa has contained not only the terrorist plot but the creation of the sky casino and sigma as a person.. or at least that's what dazai claims when he was questioning sigma's existence w fyodor. so when the agency obtains the pg they also basically have sigma's lifeline w them. idk where the actual BOOK is (apparently sigma knows when he used his ability on chief tanaeda) but the doa only has a single pg not the book itself

it's going to be a long night. / vanny
“ OPTIMIST. ” THE MAN SAYS DRYLY: DOESN’T BOTHER WITH HIS USUAL ACCENT CHANGE WHEN IT’S JUST HER. She knows the truth about him, she’s the only one able. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons he holds her in such high esteem: she’s the only one who knows who he is, behind this ridiculous facade of helpful, cheerful engineer James Attik. Stretching with a groan until his back pops, scars faintly visible in the iridescent lighting of the Pizzaplex’s underground tunnel complex. She’s right: the night promises tedium. Tries to remain peppy, though finds himself lacking ——— “ It’s a child, my dear. ” Says the word child as though some said his true name now: disdainful, disbelieving. “ How much trouble can he give the two of us working together, hmm? ” He gives her a grin; one that he hopes promises a swift and easy capture of the Gregory boy. Cane clicking on the ground as he strides ahead, left leg slightly bowed with the pace.
