The Unspoken Rules of Tumblr
As explained by someone who joined around 2019
Tumblr for all intents and purposes is not like other social media websites. Think the “I’m not like other girls” but they are not like other girls and it’s for the better. Having lurked around different social media platforms for years, I picked up on the spoken and unspoken rules that make this website more bearable than other ones. So here’s a list that will be important to new users.
Block but do not engage. Yes the rule that is understood by much of the user base and I think actually is one of the reasons why fandoms here are actually not that bad. If you remember any rule off this list, make it be this one. Why is this rule so important? Because flame wars often don’t change minds and it just creates a toxic environment. If you find someone that infuriates you, don’t attack them and just block. If they are really bad and pose a threat to people, collect evidence and do a warning post explaining why that person is dangerous but still block them.
Everyone here is a clown, even the famous ones. There is no superiority here. The number of followers you have often connects to how much of a clown you are. Now being a clown here isn’t always bad, many famous ones here make people’s days with their posts, but it’s not a contest here. In fact, fame is often considered a curse and once you have engrained yourself into the collective unconscious, you will mainly be remembered for why you became a famous tumblr clown.
Please hide your likes and follows. Don’t know how that started but it’s a thing here.
Likes do nothing, instead reblog. If it doesn’t fit the theme of your main blog, make a side blog for your reblogs.
Use tags. Tags are key here for both as a blog runner and blog reader. It allows you to quickly sort through things and see what you posted.
You don’t have to censor words like die or sex. We instead have trigger warnings tags that people can specifically block out if they don’t want to see content with stuff like that.
You want to been seen and see cool things, the algorithm is not going to do that for you. Instead you have to actively seek out what tags and blogs to follow to get the content you want. It’s more human and unlike most social media you gotta interact with people. If your feed is negative, it’s likely due to who you follow.
Don’t have a blank blog, the obvious bot usernames, or default profile pics. We are so used to fighting bots that we will auto block because of these. Some bots if you just try to click their username will get you viruses so we are careful.
Never forget the tumblr roots. Superwholock while often thought long dead still has a lasting memory here. It’s the websites heritage. Also add Hannibal and My Little Pony.
There is no cringe here for the most part. X Reader writers are just as valid as the artists here. We are all clowns because we are on this site.
Be kind and remember, people are just as human as you.
This has been you guide to Tumblr! I hope you enjoy this hellsite as much as I have.

hello people who may or may not care I’m going to have a Rant about something that others have been ranting on an will probably get more posts on the subject until people actually just listen for once?
it’s called reblog peoples art yea it’s cool to like it to appreciate it later but also reblog it.
“oh well it doesn’t fit the theme of my blog” make a side blog then stop making excuses i may make shit meme’s but there are people in this fandom that write great stories an make way to good fan art of OC’s an cannon characters. people should know about! an you know what’s an easy way for people to know about it? FUCKING REBLOGGING THINGS!!! it’s right next to the like button you don’t even have to leave tags you can just put on your page easy as that who would have thought?
Tumblr media
this is a dumb meme i made for fun but we will use as example
Tumblr media
as you can see the likes outnumber the reblogs considerably i personally don’t care one way or the other for stuff like memes but these numbers are tripled for writers an artist's i saw a post that i reblogged that had 100 reblogs an 4,000 likes really??? it broke my heart to i saw them make a post that they might not even write again sense barely anyone shared there work
Tumblr media
All of these are my blogs this isn't a self promote I'm just showing this as an example
This one right here
Tumblr media
Is my main blog this it's the one that shows up when I like something or ask questions the other blogs I reblog things onto I made a few because I like a lot of things an I like to share those things to people who want to see them!
See makes sense? Now do us all a favor and REBLOG PEOPLE'S WRITING AND ART POST'S FOR FUCK SAKE I HATE HAVING TO BE SERIOUS ON THIS SITE

GUIDELINES
Rules/Guidelines Docs
Read these rules before interacting, and make sure you can follow them. If you have questions, you’re entirely free to DM me or send an anon ask.
This blog has low or sporadic activity and only threads with mutuals. Side blogs are an exception, since they’ll have to follow with their main blogs. I am fine getting messages from non-mutuals, whether rp blog or not.
I will not follow or thread with people if they are under 18. If you have no listed age (doesn’t have to be exact), you will be assumed to be under 18. Please, don’t try to befriend me if you’re under 18 either.
This blog will not interact with young children’s media characters. Examples are: Steven Universe, Craig of the Creek, Sonic, Scooby-Doo, MLP.
This blog will contain dark subject matter. This ranges from social inequality (although fictitious) to abuse and torture. Bear that in mind when interacting. It’s fine to say when something is too much for you or to just not reply to threads if you need a break from a dark thread. I will attempt to tag things as # [subject matter] cw (example: #body horror cw) or simply the subject matter without the cw part.
Do not reblog threads you aren’t a part of. You can reblog drabbles and art. I will sometimes tag things that are alright to reblog with #ok to rb.
Try to reblog rp memes from the source if possible. I usually won’t get that annoyed if someone forgets to do it, and I don’t employ reblog karma, but I don’t want my notes filled with people not sending me anything either. It doesn’t feel nice.
No godmodding/godmoding or metagaming. Powerful muses are fine, but RP is about making things fun for both parties involved. Things like auto-hitting and taking control of other’s characters without consent does not fit in with that.
OOC =/= IC. Keep the two separate.
No sexually explicit/smut interactions. No sending sexually explicit asks. I may be an adult (past 25, even), but that’s not what I am in this hobby for. I am not sex-repulsed and mature topics and sexual themes can be discussed, but that will be the extent of it on this blog.
No pointless drama. No toxicity. No call-outs. No anon hate. If you don’t like someone, block them. Unless someone does something actually heinous, no amount of drama is worth your energy. Any shitty anon will be immediately blocked.
No racial, lgbt+, religious, ableist or national discrimination. This counts generally ooc, but it counts ic to some extent as well. I understand some characters can be bigots while the mun isn’t, I have characters who hate humans for example, but it’s important to make sure you’re not making people uncomfortable. I rather not rp that myself either.
No underaged shit. No incest shit. No noncon shit. Don’t even think of messaging me to argue your way out of falling under this rule. I am not here to discuss what counts as what. If I don’t like what I see on a blog, I will block it.
Keep irl politics to a minimum. While there’s in-universe politics that may be similar to irl politics and some may reveal a mun’s basic political beliefs, this is an rp/character account. I would like the focus to remain on the characters.
Try not to vague post too much. Sometimes, you may need to make a post addressing a general behavior or making a general announcement, but it’s best to address someone privately and directly if it is about them. I understand that some people may feel too nervous to do so, but vague posting about a specific individual is not nice and makes people uncomfortable.
Keep ooc negativity to a minimum. Constant or frequent streams of ooc negativity can have a serious negative effect on the mental health of the people you interact with, so it’s important to be mindful. This counts for vague posts as well.
No forced shipping. I am fine with your character having feelings for mine, as long as no one assumes it’s mutual. Generally, it’s better to check with someone ooc before assuming a ship, even if two characters are vibing really well or a ship is canon in the source material the characters are from.
No rushing or ultimatums. If I see someone rushing rp partners or a rules page with something like “If you don’t respond/reach out in two weeks, I’ll block” I will not likely be following back. This is a hobby and people move at their own pace. Mine so happens to be unreliable and dependent on the muse in question. Being expected to hold myself to a deadline would be stressful.
No ask spamming/chain mail. I am fine and happy with being sent a lot of asks and I enjoy the occasional dash game, but try not to do chain asks or send 20 of the same thing. That would be a little much! I’ll get overwhelmed. Thanks for the enthusiasm though. I won’t block anyone over this unless it’s some form of anon hate or harassment.
Be nice, be decent. Have some sense. Don’t be a dick. If anyone treats me like shit, I will have to block and I am under no obligation to explain why or try to talk it out. Anyone is free to block me as well.
No block evasion. If someone blocks you, don’t try to make a new account to bother them. While I understand wanting to know why you were blocked or if you can talk things out, and I am certainly more forgiving than some, it is a breach of someone’s boundaries and that is not alright.
No asking for monetary or business favors. I don’t know you and I do not appreciate people online thinking they can take advantage of me. Do not solicit me to share your rp or commission promos when I don’t know you. Do not ask for free art when you learn I do commissions.
If you want my discord, talk to me over IM first. I generally don’t add just anybody to discord, not even most of my art clients.

Tips for Twitter users that are new to Tumblr: Make a side blog that serves as a “catch-all” for every post you want to interact with that doesn’t match your main blog’s aesthetic or theme. Here’s how I use Tumblr after being here twelve years.
Main blog: Whatever I use Tumblr for the most. In my case, it’s Sherlock Holmes related stuff. This is the blog name people will see when you hit “follow,” so this is the one for which you want to generate traffic.
Likes: useful things I want to reference later. Again, when you “like” something, the user who posted it will see your main blog name.
Side blog: Everything else. Things that deserve a reblog but don’t fit in your main blog. Think of this as the drawer in your dresser that holds anything but clothes. This is the drawer that has a medal you got in the eighth grade and a free lanyard you got at Six Flags. You’ll also see people refer to this as their personal blog, but that can also mean people have two accounts they log into interchangeably.
Hopefully, we will see an update from @staff in the future that introduces the ability to switch accounts like Instagram or the Facebook pages feature, but for now, this works. It’s important to have somewhere that you can reblog what you find interesting, so that the post is traveling, not just sitting in your “likes” tab. You’ll be surprised how many people will actually engage with your side blog, but if you don’t want that, just make it plain and anonymous.

My Top Posts in 2022:

How s5 Byler would go down if I was in charge:
Will officially comes out (and he actually says he’s Gay. Like no just “I like men” he says the word gay)
Mike feels threatened by this because of his own internalized homophobia and sexuality, and gets upset
Will is understandably heartbroken and mad
Jonathan blows up at Mike
Next episode
Mike and Will haven’t resolved this yet, both are still upset and visibly uncomfortable w each other
Will and Jonathan talk about what happened, Jonathan is a fantastic brother once again
Dramatic shot of Mike staring at Will’s painting
He is visibly frustrated trying to figure himself out, thinking about Eleven etc., angry at himself for losing his best friend
Next episode
Mike thinks back to the “crazy together” scene
Realizes if he is gay and Will is gay, they can be gay together (platonically, not a couple in his eyes yet) just like they said in that scene
Mike tries to talk to Will, Jonathan refuses to leave them alone together, they end up talking in a closet for privacy with Jonathan outside the door “just in case”
Mike admits to Will he got upset because he is also gay and didn’t want to admit that to himself, they do the “crazy together” thing again, sappy mushy stuff, they hug and are best friends again.
Important that they are not romantically involved yet because Will still hasn’t fully gotten over Mike’s outburst. Jonathan is still wary of Mike despite Will forgiving him
Romantic tension is rebuilt over the following episodes
During the climax of main plot there is a Byler kiss (maybe Mike does it to save Will or vice versa)
Also side non-byler details: all the other gay characters get to actually call themselves gay or lesbian, and Robin gets a girlfriend. Mike gets more character development other than “boyfriend guy” and Eleven decides that she doesn’t need a man, or anybody.

My #1 post of 2022
As much as everybody's justifiably railing on Chris Pratt for his acting, after watching the new trailer I honestly don't think Anya Taylor-Joy is a very good fit for Peach either. The problem isn't that they're bad actors, it's that they are not voice actors. When I hear Anya's or Chris's voice I don't picture Peach and Mario, I picture two regular adult people who wouldn't stand out in a coffee shop. Which isn't the point of animated movies and voice acting! ESPECIALLY with Mario! This is supposed to be a movie about cartoonish characters in a video game fantasy world saving the day, and their voices should fit with that theme. That's why Charles Martinet's Mario voice works so well, because it makes sense for what Mario is supposed to be. This trend of giving voice acting specific jobs to non-voice actors who have no experience with this kind of work is detrimental to animation and film! It is removing job opportunities from people who have spent their lives learning this craft and handing it over to a celebrity with no experience just because they're famous. The beauty of voice acting and animation in general is how you are completely creating a character. The whole point of voice acting is that you don't point to a character in a film and say, "hey, that's Chris Pratt" the point is that people will point to the charcater and go "oh, new character!" This movie is more and more frustrating to me the more I realize how much it feels like a money grab exclusively because of the casting. The animation, the music, and the effects are all completely perfect for a Mario movie, but so many of the acting choices feel like someone just rifled through a list of "100 most popular celebrities" and chose whoever was vaguely similar to "average white man voice" or "average white woman voice". No matter how popular these people are or how good they are at acting in front of a camera or on stage, they can not voice act.

I don't see the point of likes on Tumblr. Unlike Twitter and Instagram.
Why don't people just reblog content if they like it? 😅
Ikr? Even on tumblr‘s official school tutorial thing it only says something along the lines of 'when you like something it appears in your liked posts on the blog‘. Which. Y‘know. Cool. …But practically everyone on this website has their liked posts invisible for others to see.
And even if it’s enabled, reblogs do the same thing, and better. Directly visible on the blog, you can add your own stuff to it, and make it easier to find via tags (if they work).
Also because that last point, the 'like something to save it for myself‘ argument doesn’t really work either. (I mean, the 'save for later' tag is pretty popular after all)
Granted, it could not fit their blog aesthetic or theme if they’re going for a specific one and/or are a gimmick blog, but in that case they could just make a side blog? And reblog all the things they like there.
Chaos blogs are pretty low maintenance, and only if you actually have lots of specific tags. But since likes are unsorted as well, they can just reblog it without tags, and then there’s literally no maintenance to do, and it’s exactly like likes with an 'content creator gets supported by other people who can potentially find something they’d enjoy‘ bonus.
Conclusion: you’re very right anon, and also
Reblogs > likes
(Or just do both! :D)

About blogs being randomly terminated
Yesterday, while I was logged in and sharing spring and Easter themed CC finds, I was abruptly kicked out of my account, with the following message on my screen:
Tumblr media
I contacted support, explained what happened per this post, and in some hours received this reply:
Tumblr media
On this website that they reference, (more info here) which I shared on my CC finds blog, the only thing that I can see that fits the description of “interstitial ads redirection links” would be the Ad-F*** links that are before the downloads. Even though this was shared on my CC finds side blog, my main account was also temporarily terminated.
Throughout the time of having a CC finds blog, I have still shared posts with ads, even though I disagree with it. I make a note on my reblog that there is an ad, and let the viewer make the decision for themselves. Unfortunately, from now on I will not be able to share any more posts that have links to websites with links that connect to Ad-F*** and similar.
I am confused as I do realize there are many posts going around where there leads to a site with an ad before the download, and I don’t know how Tumblr is going about dealing with what they do see as an issue, right now it seems like a mess. I have asked more questions in my dialogue with the help representative, but they haven’t replied to me yet. The only safe action from my perspective would be to stop sharing these kinds of posts from now on, even though I like the CC. Thank you for understanding.
If anyone else runs into this issue, this post has a lot of helpful information:

Links from the e-mail reply I received:
https://www.tumblr.com/policy/en/community
https://www.tumblr.com/abuse
I’m mainly sharing this 1. so that it doesn’t happen to you, and 2. maybe some creators who currently use ads like these will change their minds about it. I’d love to continue sharing posts to your CC.
@sssvitlanz @emilyccfinds  tagging you in case you don’t already know about this.

Hello! If you don't mind me asking, are you planning on watching House of the Dragon? I'm personally unsure about it. I was cautiously optimistic about it since D&D are not involved, but the recent casting news have been ugh disappointing imo. What do you think?
Hey anon! Sorry to say I kind of mind you asking because my inbox is still closed (to everyone except my secret Santas, which is why the ask page is accessible at all), but then I realized it’s possible if you’re on the mobile app only, you haven’t seen said note in my askbox, or my FAQ, or anything of the sort. And with older metas of mine being reblogged recently, it’s possible you may be confused. (I hope you’re on mobile only and not just ignoring my requests.) So I wanted to inform you of that... but also, y’know, I kind of wanted to make a post about the HotD cast anyway? And this ask is as good a prompt as any... so, you’re lucky, but please don’t push your luck. ;)
So, straight up: I currently have no plans to watch House of the Dragon. HBO is not getting any of my goddamn money, I don’t trust like that. And hunting down illegal livestreaming sites is a pain in the ass and I regret ever doing it for GoT, as well as regretting getting drunk every weekend enough to dampen my senses to ever tolerate that show. Yeah it’s different showrunners and writers, I know. It’s still (mostly) the same executives at HBO and even if the pervert producer is gone (or is he?), you know they still just want to sell sex and violence and dragons to an audience that thinks fantasy is for geeks.
Also, considering that Fire & Blood’s story of Dance of the Dragons has very little actual narrative or dialogue, and the historical record is deliberately untrustworthy, that gives them pretty much full rein to do whatever they like with the story and characterization and words without even being slightly obliged to GRRM at all. Furthermore, since the story is wholly political with virtually none of the magical side of ASOIAF (excepting dragons), and honestly does not have much in the way of themes or depth that main ASOIAF or even D&E has, I think it will be very hard for an adaptation to show even those brief sparks of quality that used to make me wistful GoT couldn’t be that good all the time and eventually just made me frustrated and depressed. Note I do like the history and characters of the Dance despite myself, despite its many many many textual issues, but I don’t need to see an adaptation, I have a very visual imagination. I don’t watch a lot of television to begin with, I don’t see why I should start again with this.
However, I’m not going to avoid spoilers or discussion, and I’ll probably follow the show the tumblr way, through gifsets and video clips and people bitching on their blogs etc. If, somehow, by some miracle of good screenwriting and acting, the show manages to transcend its source material, I’m sure I will be informed. And then, if and only if then, I may try watching. (Without, of course, giving HBO any of my goddamn money.) We shall see.
(Though I certainly don’t know why anyone in Targ standom would ever watch a Dance adaptation considering almost every Targaryen and everyone else in the story is terrible except Helaena and the kids, and considering how the story ends, unless y’all are gluttons for punishment? (I do not comprehend hatewatching, sorry.) It’ll probably be fun at first to see the adventures of those “precious silver douchebags” (to borrow a friend’s tag), but eventually rocks fall, everyone dies, including the girlboss you know you’ll hope the story will be changed enough that she succeeds. Just letting you know now, she won’t.)
That said. I’ve been following the casting news and I think the hate/fear/wild screaming is entirely overblown. Yeah, I know, but wait, just listen. On Friday I officially welcomed @naomimakesart to the “favorite character is now played by an actor who looks nothing like most fanart and is mostly known for wildly different roles” club. I still remember that day in September 2009 when my brother texted me “yarp”... and that right there is the thing. Yeah. Rory McCann looks very little like most pre-GoT Sandor fanart... but many fans grew to love him anyway. (There are some who never did, of course. And yeah the character went off the rails by the end, but truly, who didn’t. Having seen his audition, having spoken to him and heard him wistfully talk about book scenes he loved, I’m convinced if Rory had only been given Sandor’s actual scenes and such, he would’ve killed it. Sigh. Deep, deep sigh.)
And Rory isn’t the only one. Neither of the actors for Jaime and Cersei were considered “beautiful” enough at first. I recall very clearly people bitching about Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (about his nose particularly?) because they had wanted Tarzan-era Travis Fimmel to be Jaime. (Seeing people bitch because current-Fimmel isn’t playing Daemon made me laugh out loud for both BEYONCE?! meme -type “why would you ever cast him omg he doesn’t fit my headcanon Daemon at all”, and amazing amounts of fandom flashbacks.) Lena Headey was “too square-jawed”, “too mean-looking” (since at the beginning you should never be able to guess she’s evil), “too dark-complected”, “too mannish”, not at all attractive enough. (Tricia Helfer was the most common “but I wanted” for Cersei, btw.) And of course “they don’t remotely look like twins, ugh!” Note, there’s receipts for all of this, none of it is made up. (Unfortunately.) Those two actors are just the ones whose casting wank I recall most clearly, particularly because oh how the turn tables.
Also. You know, there’s a post with Matt Smith and Mark Simonetti’s TWOIAF Daemon going around with shrieks of horror... and I’m finding it maddening in a “am I crazy? am I  the crazy one???” way, because Matt looks like the painting. Their features are not that dissimilar.
Tumblr media
Same deepset eyes. Same cheekbones of doom. Same thin lips. Same protruding chin. Same high forehead. Same invsible eyebrows ffs. Matt has a squarer jaw, and a longer more rectangular face, and a wider nose, but considering that Daemon’s features are not described in the text, and this is the only official ASOIAF artwork that shows Daemon’s face straight on, I can for sure see why he was probably shortlisted to begin with. And that’s not even getting into to his role in The Crown, which I’ve heard is very well played with politics and palace intrigue... and if you doubt Smith can play seductive/roguish and/or evil (depending on how you LARP as a Westeros historian), or look good with long hair... well. I do not want to watch the movie, but this trailer is disturbingly enlightening.
And as for Rhaenyra... y’all know this show is starting at the beginning of the story, right? When she’s a teenager? Not a voluptuous MILF? Yeah, Emma D’Arcy doesn’t look like a Magali Villeneueve painting (though who does, good lord), but you know who she does look remarkably like? Harry Lloyd.
Tumblr media
Same jawline. Same nose. Same thin lips. Same sharp cheekbones. Notably, same kind of sharp cheekbones and deep-set eyes as Matt Smith. HBO evidently has a concept of a “Targaryen look” that’s a little bit quirkier than supermodel-Greek statue-gods on earth, yeah, fine. But it’s consistent, and they look like family, and that-- that is good casting.
And yeah, in a few months to a year or so, you’ll see them in costume and wigs and makeup, you’ll see them in motion and speaking lines, and go Oh. That’s different. Never mind. And while people will make fanart of the show depictions of the characters and those will probalby get popular, they’ll also keep doing fanart of their pre-show headcanons, and those too will be popular. (God knows when I draw or visualize book!Sandor, Rory does not come to mind, lol.) Either way, there’s no reason to panic. We’ll live.
(Though will we live well? Got to wait on the writing and showrunning for that, alas.)

I've not really tried to do fandom for awhile, but since there's pinned posts, I'll make an about!
I may have a tag for lewd or inappropriate posts that is "minors dni". If you don't have a visible age or are under 18, please don't like, reblog, or comment on those posts!!! My posts I make myself are going to be tagged with "ayu talks to the air again". For each fandom I dabble in, I will make a separate tag for them so you can choose which posts you aren't interested in by filtering out tags. If you want to filter in advance, "ultra maniac ayu" for example. Though I'm not sure why you're here if you don't wanna see the main theme my blog has 😅
🛑I don't want these interacting with me: people who harass others for any reason, people who want to bully me over my emotional support kin, racists, LGBT exclusionists, MAPS/NOMAPS and whatever else you're calling yourselves these days. I just don't want harmful people following me. Very specifically, I don't want you to follow if you don't believe in aro or ace people because I'm on the aroace spectrum myself.
🌸Call me Ayu! I have been hoping to change my name to hers for a couple years now because it fits right! Not changing my hair or eye color though. I think black hair looked nicer on her on the manga pages anyway, and black is my natural hair color.
🌸The two people I will mention the most are my cousin Hyacinth, and my childhood friend Chocolat! Chocolat named herself after Chocolat Meilleure, and kins her like I do Ayu! Hya is a cosplayer and goes by She/he/they pronouns. All three of us plan to make these our real names one day because it makes us happy 🥰 neither of them want a Tumblr, so I guess you could say they both "have lives". I'm a little happy Chocolat doesn't want one because she's 16, so....
🌸April 19th is my birthday and I'm 19, but I'm not really into the signs and stuff. But I respect you if you're into that sort of thing!!
🌸Experimenting with my gender right now! They, maybe she... I'm not so sure anymore.
🌸I'm pro ship! If your fave isn't problematic, it will be by the time I'm done with it!! Anything could be posted to this blog. Anything. So block tags or block me if things trouble you!!
🌸All fandoms go here. All of them. There will be NO side blogs. It will start off with Ultra Maniac, MeruPuri, and Ouran likely, but it's gonna get chaotic SUPER FAST.
🌸List of tags to block if you have trouble with these things: (will upload in a bit!)
🌸My fanfics (will add AO3 when I can!!) I like to write and draw, but I usually don't actually sit down and do either 😅
🌸You can have my Discord if I trust you 🥰

Finding your audience
Part 3 in my like + reblog series.
In part 2, we discussed the results of part 1 and what might be better to focus on instead of the like to reblog ratio. In this post, we’re going to dive in deeper into that! These tips can be useful for reaching to a wider audience or trying new theme types outside of your comfort zone.
Like the other posts in this series, it is pretty long, and will have a summary added in an update.
Sections of this post:
Who is your target audience?
Blog Type
Blog Theme
Blog Features
More tips
Who is your target audience?
In order to reach whatever your goal is for your theme, it’s important to understand who your target audience is*.
Some questions to consider:
What kind of blog does this theme suit best?
Is your preview ‘themed’ in a specific way (aesthetic, fandom, etc)?
Does it have any special features specific to certain blog types (fansite, blog members section, commission page, etc)?
*A small disclaimer: you do not have to do any of the things I’m about to list below. Ultimately, make themes you want to make + how you want to make them. These are just tips if you are stuck and want to reach more users.
These tips can also apply if you are perfectly fine with your current audience but want to get better at making previews!
Blog Type
Look at whatever theme you’re working on, and think about what kind of blog type will use this theme the most and make it look the best.
If your theme has 3 columns, odds are your posts will be on the smaller side and won’t look as good with text heavy blogs. In this case, you should make your theme preview appeal to blogs that usually don’t reblog text heavy things like aesthetic blogs and art blogs. Try to be consistent with your posts so that it’s clear what blog type you are going for.
If your theme has a lot of image based elements (whether it’s sidebar, header, or other image placements), you should go for blogs that reblog/make icons + graphics. This can be blogs that feature fandom gifs/edits, rp blogs, kpop blogs, etc. They will be more likely to have a good eye for images that go well together and fit in with your theme’s design.
Blog Theme
While not every blog has a specific theme it follows, a lot do have something they primarily focus on! They might not be particular when it comes to choosing their theme, but they will be more likely to choose something that features the thing they post about.
An example of this happening is my theme Facade. I included a fandom post that I didn’t even realize was from that fandom, the aesthetic just matched the theme perfectly. The theme got reblogged heavily from that fandom, and got a lot bigger than I was anticipating! While this one wasn’t intentional, almost all of my most popular themes are using this method.
The easiest way to do this is make your theme preview feature things you are interested in as well, or are familiar with. The more familiar you are with a fandom’s ‘aesthetic’, the easier this will be to incorporate in a theme’s design, plus it’s fun to do when you’re passionate about it!
This can be picking a sidebar + header that features characters/actors, or featuring edits + fanart from that fandom. This works well if you want to appeal to that fandom but also want people outside of the fandom interested as well.
You can also go all out and make something directly inspired by a fandom. Video game inspired UI, using fonts from movies/tv shows, incorporating album covers in your design, are all ways to feature fandoms in your themes more directly.
Keep in mind that this option might make you lose audiences that are not part of the fandom, so if you want a more universal appeal, option 1 might be better. .
Try to look for blog themes/fandoms that have a strong community but aren’t really featured in themes. This doesn’t mean you can’t release a theme inspired by a very popular community, but your theme has a higher chance of getting lost in a long list of already existing themes.
Blog Features
Some users have specific things they look for in a theme because of the type of blog they have. These things might not appear in your average theme, so they’re more likely to be on the lookout for specific features and pass on themes that don’t have them.
Writing blogs are a good example of this. These can be fanfic writers, studyblrs, or just language/writing blogs in general! Lots of themes are geared more towards photo posts, and previews will often reflect and highlight these over text posts.
If you want to appeal to this group, make sure your preview highlights text posts, and that your text post styling really stands out. One complaint I’ve seen from this user group is that a lot of theme posts are too small for what they’re writing, so themes with larger posts and larger text will appeal to this group more.
RP blogs are another example. Similar to writing blogs, but usually come with a different set of needs. RP blogs have a lot of replies, so having dashboard captions might be a better option than blockquotes for readability. Sometimes they include icons in their replies, so make sure your themes support smaller images in posts and won’t stretch them out. They also might look for members + muse sections, rules sections/popups, and places to add custom graphics.
More tips
One thing that is universal in all of these options is doing your research. If you’re trying to appeal to a wider audience than what you currently have, you might have to step outside of your comfort zone.
It’s never okay to steal someone’s design, but do study other blog themes that your target audience uses. This isn’t really about the design of the theme, but what features they have. What do these blogs have in common? Do they share color schemes, font choices? Do they prefer sidebars over headers? Do they like simple or complex themes?
These are all things you should consider when making a theme for your target audience.
Going back to blog themes, I would personally avoid intentionally going after what is popular just to increase your note count. If you’re not really into what you’re making, it might start feeling like a chore and draining to make. You also run the risk of it feeling ‘empty’ compared to your other work. The extra notes aren’t really worth that, in my opinion. But if that doesn’t bother you, by all means go for it! Just a warning as someone who tried that for my 2nd ever (and since long deleted) theme because I was new.
Finally, if your target audience is small, your note count might reflect that. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing! If your target audience loves your theme, then it is still successful!
I’m also saying this to not get discouraged if your theme doesn’t go beyond a smaller group. That doesn’t mean it was a bad theme, your audience might just be really niche, and that’s ok!
However, if you want to change that, then hopefully this post has been helpful!
In part 4 I will cover reaching audiences that might not be actively looking for themes

I was tagged by my Greek Goddess @thespiritofvexation ♥️🧡🥁 Thank you very much I was missing tag games!
1. Why did you choose your url?
Here comes again... I was saving some Dleep Purple pics and I found some pics from Ian Gillan's wedding in 1984 and among these pics there was Ritchie dressed in pastel colours and I thought "Oh, Ritchie BlackLESS" and that's it.
2. Any side blogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them.
Well, @incorrect-deepurple is one (omg is dead I'm so sorry you all) I created it back in the day because I thought It could be fun and it was. And @bluefires-oforc is the other one. I have that one because I love Rutger Hauer so much but he didn't fit in my "theme".
3. How long have you been on tumblr?
Since 2016 but not with this blog. When I started Tumblr I had a blog called M4r7in4 but I don't know why Tumblr deleted it (because that url name was utterly horrible that's why hahdhdhsj). Then in 2018 I started with Ritchieblackless.
4. Do you have a queue tag?
Nope, because I don't know why I would have one for... For me they are kinda useless.. at least for me 'cause I don't use them.
5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?
Because I was so obsessed with Deep Purple and this blog was meant to be another Deep Purple ruler based mostly in Gillmore BUT THEN SOME THINGS HAPPENED and here I am running a Blog dedicated to Cozy Powell.
6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?
The Icon usually chooses me... is like: "I'm a very gorgeous, heaven sent-pic use me use me use me use me" and here I am changing my icon each time you blink.
7. Why did you choose your header?
Personal reasons... >;) cozyissohot
9. How many mutuals do you have?
A few and I love them with my entire heart ❤
10. How many followers do you have?
350 I believe... We are a small community here.
11. How many people do you follow?
200+ I think
12. Have you ever made a shitpost?
Of course.... who the hell doesn't make a shitpost? It's like brushing your teeth.
13. How often do you use tumblr each day?
I use Tumblr enough until I reach that moment when I close the app I open it again...
14. Did you ever have a fight/argument with another blog once? who won?
Of course.... Mostly are my fault because I tend to be a little pushy without realizing it... I mean I like to say things with pun intended... I'm terrible I know I'm trying to change I swear. I have a very bad temper I'm sorry you all I'm so sorry
15. How do you feel about "you need to reblog this" posts?
Well, I usually look at those post with a "ew" face. I mean not pun intended (I swear) but most of them are political or LGTB+ or Jewish, Feminist or Black Lives Matter posts and is not like I'm not with them, I support them of course but I don't need to reblog those post everyday at every hour to hold my posture. I mean the worst part is that if you don't reblog those posts you're cruel or you're careless (Well I can't care less about feminism really) or mean and they judge you before knowing you or even your opinions and I'm not exaggerating, that is what happens.
16. Do you like tag games?
YEAH They are so much fun.
17. Do you like ask games?
YEAAAAAH When you get them is very distracting and interactive.
18. Which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
Err... I don't really know what this means but I think that my mutuals are famous in their own way <3.
19. Do you have a crush on a mutual?
Mmmh, I don't think so, no... But I love my mutuals in a platonic way because they all are so sexy and nice.

Tumblr tag game
Tagged by @fredy-carter , thank you!! 💕
1. Why did you choose your url?
because bucky barnes is my one constant in a sea of variables (also jasondilaurentis was a dead url, i haven’t thought about pretty little liars for years)

i don’t have any sideblogs that are just mine, but i’m a member of chrisgifs and marveldaily and i co-own sebastianhub and supernaturaldaily
3. How long have you been on tumblr?
since 2012. i’ve had this blog since 2013 but i had a hiatus from 2015-2021
4. Do you have a queue tag?
no, i just queue stuff and pretend i’m here
5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?
i don’t even remember, i think it was because i had started making gifs and wanted somewhere to post them. this blog started as a pretty little liars blog
6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?
i found it for some school stuff 7 years ago and liked it. it’s originally pink but i change the colors to match my mobile theme when i change it.
7. Why did you choose your header?
as i said, bucky barnes is my one constant in a sea of variables. also purple is the sexiest color
8. What’s your post with the most notes?
this one from 2014
9. How many mutuals do you have?
haha i actually just counted and i have 167 mutuals

back in the day i used to, but i try to stay in my lane now. it’s about content creating for me
15. How do you feel about the ‘you need to reblog’ posts?
reblog are important for content creators for so many reasons. as much as i try to tell myself that a notecount doesn’t count. it does.... it’s discouraging for content creators to make stuff when it’s not getting feedback and attention and that’s just how it is. so i say, if it fits your vibe and you like it — reblog it!
16. Do you like tag games?
never done one before today.... but this is fun

i absolutely love them!!
18. Which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?

Are the Villains “right”?
Okay, so I was scrolling through the bnha spoilers tag whilst procrastinating work and I’m really not living for the vibes there. My biggest issues fall into two main camps: “this arc is going to be the end of the League”, and “Villain stans are hypocrites with no reading comprehension for condemning the Heroes’ behaviour”, and I believe both of these statements can be addressed simultaneously, whilst also giving me a convenient excuse to not write. So without further ado,
Part 1: Themes
Right from the very beginning of the series, literally the first line, one thing is made blatantly clear: This series is not going to be about good guys and bad guys. “All men are not created equal” is not a line that implicates an inherent divide between good and evil, unless you’re an actual eugenicist. And pretty much every important character is designed to criticise a different aspect of the established system.
Izuku: The Quirkless are worthless. Not explicitly, but... everyone knows it.
Bakugou: If you have a good Quirk, you are praised and treated as special, and as a consequence you’re never expected to learn and grow as a person.
Shoto: Dedicating your entire life to becoming strong to the detriment of your own health is the best way to climb to the top.
All Might: You don’t have to worry about anything. A Hero will save you.
Shinsou: If you have a Villain’s Quirk, you’re going to be a Villain, no matter the quality of your personality.
Kirishima: If you’re not flashy, there’s no point even trying.
Hawks: Similar to Shoto, if you show natural promise then it’s acceptable to groom you as a weapon.
I’m sure there are others that I’ve missed. Each of these characters’ individual developments have been focused around them overcoming these ingrained ideas and growing and succeeding despite them - with the exception, perhaps, of Hawks. So if several of the major Hero characters are designed to illustrate and criticise the established system, what about the villains? I guess if the Heroes are stories about people succeeding despite what the world tells them, then the Villains are stories about what happens when they don’t.
Spinner: Mutants are second-class citizens and should be treated as such.
Toga: If your Quirk is considered to be bad or gross, then you should be punished for wanting to use it.
Twice: The world won’t make space for your special needs.
Magne: If you don’t fit the mould of what people want you to be, you won’t be respected.
And Shigaraki: It’s not our responsibility to help you. If you weren’t saved, that must mean you’re not worth saving.
The one thing that both the Heroes and the Villains have in common is that they are tools to show the audience the flaws in BNHA’s society. It’s canon that Quirks appeared suddenly, and though by the time BNHA is set in, society has tried to adapt to fit it and is making some progress towards being functional, it’s clear that it has a long, long way to go, because it’s failing so many people. (Draw some parallels to real life, hm?). BNHA’s overarching themes of individual worth not being more important than collective good and how rules and structure created in good will can result in a lot of pain and abuse are, first and foremost, exemplified in the characters themselves. I like to tell people who find Shigaraki’s motivations vague and uncompelling that Shigaraki doesn’t need to have a point, he is the point, and this is exactly the reason why.
I also believe that this is primarily why for Horikoshi to end the League here would be, frankly, terrible writing. We have engaged with the LOV more than pretty much any other Shonen villain group I can think of, almost any villain group at all. We’ve seen them develop as much as we’ve seen the heroes develop, especially in Shigaraki’s case, and to have Shigaraki only be their ‘first-year villain’ or whatever would be disrespectful, wasteful, and thematically inappropriate. To have a more classic, pre-developed villain whose villainy seems to stem from some inherent evil characteristic like AfO or Overhaul would ultimately defeat the story of how the worst villains are created by flaws in the system, not born.
Part 2: Fan Response
Sometimes I can’t believe I still have to reiterate this to people, but it is possible to stan a character whilst simultaneously recognising that they are flawed, often critically so. When did we move from adoring villains to saying if you like this character you must be an inherently bad person because of this list of bad things they did?
The thing is that the vast majority of ‘opinions’ on fan blogs are... poorly thought out and shallow, to put it lightly. When it’s 2am and I’m answering an ask about my opinions on x plot point, it’s not gonna be well thought out and thoroughly researched. I’m probably a bit tipsy, kind of tired, and just typing out whatever my initial response is. And really, if I reblog a bit of art with the caption ‘Shigaraki did nothing wrong’, do you really think I’m being serious? A lot of what we say is hyperbolic and meant to either be funny or to evoke an emotion, not because we actually believe it.
That being said, the League in particular, I believe, resonates with a lot of people in the current political climate. A group of outcasts with characteristics considered undesirable by the wider population coming together and genuinely caring about one another whilst they aim to completely eradicate the system that hurt them? As an angry, marginalised leftist in a society that seems increasingly determined to wipe my chances at a good life out without blinking an eye, hell yeah that resonates with me. Being able to crumble the cripplingly complex and morally vile system I live in to dust and starting over is one hell of an appealing power fantasy. Does that mean I think murder is okay? Obviously not. It’s a fantasy. If there’s one place where I can live out those fantasies without consequences, it’s here. In fiction. And so it seems really stupid to me to be confronted with the idea that if I like a fictional violent radical I’m accused of condoning murder and kidnapping.
Part 3: Are the Heroes right?
So a lot of the posts I saw that aggravated me were framed like 'how can the villain stans think Miruko and Gran Torino's behaviour is worse than Shigaraki's?', but like... who was saying that?
I feel like certain people's views of the heroes versus villains debate falls under the same fallacies as a lot of political arguments- that is to say, if I'm criticising one side, I must be defending the other. Which is... just blatantly untrue. When we say that the heroes' consistent dehumanisation of a man who is, first and foremost, a victim of significant grooming and abuse throughout his life, is gross and cruel, and that this attitude is mirrored in an awful lot of the hero-villain interactions implying a certain level of empathetic alienation and lack of accountability, we're not saying they shouldn't be trying to take Shigaraki down. Of course they should, he's going to decimate hundreds of thousands of innocent lives. But, like, does that mean they're exempt from all criticism? Should we be excusing the cruel and dismissive attitudes of the heroes and ignoring the behaviours of their side that lead to further 'villainisation' of marginalised people just because they're responsible for saving lives? No. Because once again, one of the key themes of BNHA is that neither side is perfect, and neither side is right.
Mass murder is wrong. So is systemic cruelty towards the oppressed. You don't have to approve of one to criticise the other. So next time you see one of those posts and jump to the conclusion that villain stans have no reading comprehension, pls remember these points.
Anyway, that's my little rant. Sorry.
Tl;dr, villain stans aren't stupid or glorifying murder, we're just capable of criticising more than one type of bad behaviour.

I was tagged by @formulola 🧡 Thank you so much 🤗🥰
1. Why did you choose your url?
It's my online nickname and initials. Just Dona was either used or I felt like it would be too short. And also the 'idk' part is fitting as I never really know what the hell is going on 😂
2. Any side blogs?
Luckily not. I neither would have the time to keep two or more blogs working, neither any idea what I should have a side blog on. Feel like this main one is enough 😌
3. How long have you been on tumblr?
I cratd it around 2019, but I only started using it in December 2020. On December 15th exactly.
4. Do you have a queue tag?
It's usually just 'donaidk queue', but the only time I use it is when I have to take a few days off and like have time to prepare posts there.
5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?
I was having quite a bad time during November-December. I wanted to be part of something bigger and luckily found this place just in the perfect time. I literally don't know where I would be if I haven't found f1blr 🧡
6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?
Sadly I keep changing them, because there are just too many fantastic pics 😭 I really liked my Nyck piano one and the Jack cat one. The one I have now with purplish Dan was just perfect for my blog theme, and I also like looking at it. Always reminds me to be more positive about life. Dan has that effect on me. (Jack and Nyck was the same and they also fit my theme back then)
7. Why did you choose your header?
That Mahindra video was just my complete demise 💀 I love Alex, Karen and purple so perfect combination. And you can not tell me it's not hot *bi screaming* Sorry, they're taking over my life still 😂 I had never felt so much happiness from creating gifs before than how I felt during making these.
8. What’s your post with the most notes?
Actually... Most of my 'bigger' posts are all rage posts... That says a lot about me 😂 But the one with the most notes is this one and I have to laugh every time someone founds it. My crackhead brain was pretty angry at their irl situations 🤦‍♀️
9. How many mutuals do you have?
Around 10? I don't know exactly. I'm the usual scared one who just doesn't wanna upset anyone and rather stays in her tiny bubble 💀
10. How many followers do you have?
288. I literally can't believe that under half a year ago this blog was nothing and so many of you already decided to stay 😭
11. How many people do you follow?
Only 29 as I get very overwhelmed if there are too many notifications. But I keep up with lots more when I have time, just by searching them up and goin through their latest posts 🤗
12. Have you ever made a shit post?
Given my shit posts somehow always reach more people... I don't even have the heart to delete them later 😶
13. How often do you use tumblr a day?
TOOO MUCH! But sadly I love it. It's part of my daily routine 😂
14. Did you ever have a fight/argument with another blog?
Don't really think so. I don't like online arguments, because you can never really tell what the other people actually meant by saying things.
15. How do you feel about the ‘you need to reblog’ posts?
I stand beside them. I try my best also, but sometimes even I fail it when there are posts I love, but they're just not about people that I follow or like 😔 But I try my best at reblogging it for the art and not the irl people behind it 😊
16. Do you like tag games?
I really do love them! I may forget about one or two but my heart always jumps a little when others think about me and tag me 🥺
17. Do you like ask games?
Of course! Just as much as tag games. They're all really fun.
18. Which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
Most of them, and I literally don't know how they became my mutual 😭
19. Do you have a crush on a mutual?
Romantic one not really. But I have one huge friend one if that counts 😂
20. Tags!
If you don't feel like it or already did it just please ignore my tag 🧡 @x-lipstickstain-x @georgeinamerc @tittipaldi @holymacncheeseballs @landonorrisgeorgerussell
