dude I love blood in the bayou so far. most of the group is high on morphine and weed. they smoke 24 packs a day. rand has been easily convinced it’s mind flayers and is just so mentally unstable. rolan is perceiving and comprehending the incomprehensible horrors when he really Should Not Be. kian is straight up jerking it in his hospital bed. It’s the 80’s baby

I understand that there is a sizable amount of Jon stans whose delusions can be aggravating. Trust me, I’ve come across my fair share of people who think that the sun rises only for Jon Snow and no one else. But, it’s really annoying when certain sections of this fandom act like reading Jon as Azor Ahai is a result of Jon fans making shit up. No, we’re not. We’re literally reading what the text is telling us. We’re not reading into it, we’re reading it straight up. Mel’s singular ADWD chapter is literally just: hey Mel pay attention to Jon Snow, also there’s random stuff happening all over Westeros, and also pay extra attention to Jon Snow.
Mel’s visions are absolutely correct. What’s not correct is how she interprets them to fit an agenda/make herself appear more credible to others (Jon, Stannis). We already know exactly what this looks like when she sees towers being submerged in water, says it’s Eastwatch by the Sea when asked, even though in her head she’s like “oh it can’t be Eastwatch because that place doesn’t look like that”.
ADWD shows us that Mel looks into her fires searching for Azor Ahai and sees “only Snow”. There’s no other way of reading that other than “oh yeah if Mel is specifically looking for Azor Ahai and is seeing Jon Snow, then Jon is the Azor Ahai she’s looking for”. And the gag with this is Mel’s entire purpose, her existence, is to find Azor Ahai. But she completely misidentifies him so when she encounters the real deal, she’s in far too deep to make the obvious and necessary pivot. And it’s even funnier (and I think that’s what GRRM is going for) when there’s nothing special about Mel’s chosen hero Stannis, but there’s a lot that is special about the one she’s ignoring: Jon. Mel literally tells Jon “you’re a super special magic boy let’s make babies because of how super special you are, and these babies will be even more powerful than the ones I made with Stannis” but at the same time being like “yeah mr not-that-special Stannis is totally the guy I’m looking for”.
Plus, Mel’s “only Snow” is quite literally reaffirmed in Jon XII when he dreams himself atop the wall, armored in ice, and wielding LIGHTBRINGER. This isn’t some ordinary flaming sword. This sword burns “red in his fist”, which literally equates it to “the red sword of heroes” - Azor Ahai’s sword. Not only that but Mel’s ptwp is definitely going to be reborn. She has visions about a grey girl on a dying horse WHICH IS TRUE!! What’s not true is this girl being Arya. It’s Alys Karstark. She then has visions about daggers in the dark, which again happens!! Read the last few pages of Jon XIII ADWD. The one that hasn’t come yet but will (based on Jon XIII) is a “promised prince born amidst salt and smoke”. There’s a reason why GRRM included these things in the narrative. And there’s a reason why they happen sequentially. So unless Winds comes out and GRRM is like sike forget that ever happened, it’s pretty safe to assume that Jon is Azor Ahai.

!!! First!! Fjord and Jester kiss!! Is when Fjord gives her all his air to save her from drowning!! What the fuck that’s perfect!! of course it happened in the heat of battle! When Fjord couldn’t overthink it and Jester couldn’t make him nervous about it!
No hesitation, this was his instinct when he saw Jester drowning. Not to grab her and pull her up, not to get the key off her body to get the trapdoor open, but to literally give her all of his remaining breath, basically trading places with her, saving her from drowning at the possible expense of his own chance to escape.
And this is his mission! They’re all here for him! He’s been doing his absolute best to stay calm and collected, to stay in control of the situation while he tries to learn all he can about the things that are happening to him. He’s hiding things, he’s stringing Avantika along… and literally none of that matters when he sees Jester drowning.
He’s almost drowned before. All that was there to save him was an eldritch monstrosity, a leftover piece of a betrayer god, demanding purchase on his soul in exchange for his life. When he sees Jester drowning, he gives her what he couldn’t have - a soft, gentle, life-giving breath from someone who loves her and can’t stand to lose her.

“Ser Sweetrobin,” Lord Robert said, and Alayne knew that she dare not wait for Mya to return. She helped the boy dismount, and hand in hand they walked out onto the bare stone saddle, their cloaks snapping and flapping behind them. All around was empty air and sky, the ground falling away sharply to either side. There was ice underfoot, and broken stones just waiting to turn an ankle, and the wind was howling fiercely. It sounds like a wolf, thought Sansa. A ghost wolf, big as mountains.
And then they were on the other side, and Mya Stone was laughing and lifting Robert for a hug.

it’s not discussed enough how keith richards literally wrote ruby tuesday as a parting love letter about how wrong he was to try and clip someone’s wings, that he can’t control how people grow together or apart. but it’s all rooted in fault, his fault. not her fault for being a woman who has felt stung with the pain of being held back, his fault for holding her back. to write that when women were being treated so badly through media.. to just release a song that allows a woman to exist as a person and not as an object, to release a song where a woman isn’t the villain for a broken heart! for a 23 year old man to write that, for any man to have that kind of understanding of any sort of emotion or life at large is insane - but for a rockstar in 1967? keith richards the man you are

In a kinder world, Mary Hatford would never have married Nathan Wesninski.
Or, maybe she would have. Maybe in a kinder world, Nathan would have learned to be kind, too.
In the real world, Mary knew that no amount of kindness could show Nathan how to be a human. Even the kindest world could not suck the hatred out of his blood.
In a kind world, learning that she was pregnant with Nathan’s son would have been a blessing, not a curse. Giving birth to Abram would have been the happiest moment of her life. Holding her son for the first time, she would have felt nothing but joy and love, hope for the future he would have.
In the real world, Mary was terrified as she looked into her baby’s blue eyes. She knew that the road ahead of them would not be an easy one, knew that her son was not likely to live to adulthood. In the real world, Mary looked down at her son, so innocent and small and absolutely clueless to the monstrous world he’d just been born into, and she cried.
In a kind world, little Abram would never have had to learn how to wield a knife. Mary would never know what it was like to wash a man’s blood off of her eight-year-old son’s face. In a kinder world, her son was allowed to be a child.
In the real world, Abram watched a man die for the first time at five years old. At seven, Nathan bought the boy a dog and then made Abram help him slaughter it. In the real world, her son had taken a man’s life by the time he turned nine.
In a kinder world, They never would have needed to run. Abram would never be in enough danger for that. In a kind world, he would have been allowed to grow up like every other little boy. He would get to run around at the park and scrape his knees and yell as loudly as he could. He would be able to call as much attention to himself as he wanted, and he would never have to worry that death was coming for him.
In the real world, Mary woke him in the middle of the night three weeks after his tenth birthday. In the real world, she either had to take him away or watch him die. It wasn’t a hard choice to make.
In the real world, they ran and they ran and they ran. They could never stop running, not unless they wanted to stop breathing. In the real world, her son lives but he never gets to be alive.
In a kind world, Seattle is just a city. In a kind world, maybe they take a family trip there. Maybe Abram argues with another tourist over something stupid. Maybe they go out to dinner or take pictures at all of the popular sights. Maybe in a kinder world, Seattle is beautiful.
In the real world, Mary can barely remember Seattle. All she can remember is pain and fear and the need to get as much distance between Abram and Nathan as she can. In the real world, she never saw the metal pipe coming.
In a kind world, Mary lives a long life. She watches Abram graduate high school and then college, watches him play exy for years until an injury forces him to retire. She watches him fall in love with the strangest boy she’s ever met, a blond even shorter than she is who rarely smiles and loves to talk about the zombie apocalypse.
In a kind world, Mary is there when Abram gets married. She lives long enough to meet her two grandchildren and a handful of the many cats Abram and Andrew adopt. She lives a long life, and when death takes her, she isn’t afraid.
In the real world, fate isn’t so kind. In the real world, Abram still grows up. He graduates high school, then college. He plays exy for years. He even falls in love, gets married, adopts two kids and an unreasonable number of cats.
But in the real world, Mary isn’t there for any of it. In the real world, Mary doesn’t even get to see Abram turn 18.
In the real world, Mary Hatford dies at age 42, desperate and afraid on a cold stretch of California beach. In the real world, she doesn’t get a happy ending.

Au where Stone dies and Robotnik experiences such violent grief that he ends up forgetting / blocking out the memory of Stone. Redefining himself in his griefs image without even realizing it, until one day when he’s barely the man he was before, those memories suddenly come crashing back into him and he experiences a whole new wave of distress and despair as he looks at himself and what he’s done in Stone’s absence. How far he’d gone to fill the hole in his chest without success.
He’s come so far and become so strong but what was it all for? What was the purpose now? What’s he supposed to do now that he remembers all that mattered to him is gone?

Henry plushy! From the Stepping Stones universe! ( @steppingstonesuniverseguide )
I drew this because I’m hand binding the first story from this series. I wanted to add a bit of art to the title page, and I thought Henry was a good symbol for the overall arc of the fic.
Non-blued version under the cut.
