anyway thinking about diane rick and morty
#random thoughts#guess what motherfuckers it's blue man time#have not seen the new season btw im too lazy ANYWAY#i really like the idea of diane being dead and rick being fucked up having nothing to do with each other#i think rick should be really fucked up about diane being dead but in a 'i didn't care about her before she died why should i care now'#kind of way? like him not caring about her death is a symptom of him being super fucked up#i really like the idea of beth being the result of a teen pregnancy because it runs in the family ig and that's why rick hates jerry#so diane's pregnant and their parents made them get married because that was the trend at the time#loveless marriage exacerbated by rick's rickness which leads to rick dipping a few years in#working 'abroad' or smth idk#he eventually leaves for good when he finds out diane cheated on him and he realizes his life is a fucking telenovela#diane marries the new guy (beth's new stepdad!!! she hates him) and rick keeps up correspondence with beth#to sow seeds of discord#beth loves her distant space dad and hates her mom and her fucking stepdad#beth and rick stop talking to each other sometime before diane dies so he doesn't learn she died until he reinvolves himself in beth's life#beth has an older stepsister named rebecca (becky)#and a younger halfbrother named bandit#she hates becky cuz she's a bitch and hates bandit because she viewed him as a replacement for herself#she absolutely bullied the shit out of bandit but he idolizes her#golden retriever energy. she says jump he says how high#becky was like an older teen when their parents got married and beth was like? four? they have no relationship at all#(diane and the stepdad got married pretty soon after rick dipped btw)#i have not named the stepdad. he remains nameless in the show for comedy purposes and because beth hates him that much#rebecca was like a redhead poodle skirt wearer despite being a teen in the mid-70s#(their hometown had a mid-70's fashion reversion to the 50's it's not important)#she was homecoming queen bee cheerleading captain girlfriend of the quarterback who she married and had 2.5 kids with#bitchy pta wasp mom with a beehive haircut#bandit is in an emotionally abusive relationship with his girlfriend who is an artist (beth meets her and is like 'oh god what did i do')#bandit was also treated like a showdog by his parents (hence the name)#little tykes child pageant star winner. his parents fed him dog food and kept him malnourished so he'd be smaller and pass as a tyke

Hiii guys, after my last .. uh theory thingy I'm back to ramble more. (About mostly Morty Prime this time). Because I'm very normal about R&M I promise. :D
Tumblr media
Anyways! (Major spoilers for season 7 ahead!!!)
I've been thinking about season 7 again, as well as the earlier seasons, and I've got a few ideas/possibilities/plot bunnies of what the writers of Rick and Morty might do for Morty.
The thing is, season 7 had somewhat really juggled Morty's character back and forth between its development and regression for Unmortricken, giving more light to the rest of the Smith family and Rick. I don't mean to phrase this negatively, but compared to earlier seasons, Morty seems to more of just being there, not taking into mind the episodes w Rick Prime and episode 10 of the latest season.
And this brings me to my point: What will they do with Morty's character and development now?
Let's take all things into consideration:
Rick Prime is gone/dead (hopefully permamently but it could be an interesting throwback)
Rick C-137 can be now actively allowed to heal
There is nothing (particularly) endangering their whole family
Evil Morty returned to his paradise island and there doesn't seem to be a strong/certain reason for him to return to the Central Curve
So the new arc, by technicality, should consist of Morty's and Rick's healing, right? Right???
That's what I thought of at first, but there's a good chance it's not as clear as it may appear.
For example, let's talk about the last episode of season 7. Throughout all of it we have the dissection of Rick's and Morty's fears, even as far as having an accurate Diane in it. It portrays how many fears and worries Morty Prime has accumulated through the seasons, including, of course, not being accepted, his fear of being replaced (THANKS RICK <3🙄) and many more. My point here is, that his trauma runs deep, it's hard-rooted into his character and almost unmovable. The most fucked up thing about it in the ep, is that Morty receiveing positive attention from Rick, is what made him realize that he's the only one in the hole. Because he doesn't believe Rick would consciously describe him as an irreplacable person in his life.
Which brings me to one of my key-thought-out-problems. Can Morty Prime even heal properly, at least around his family?
Chances are: it might be a HUGE FUCKING ISSUE.
(To be fair here, I'm not an entirely objective theorizer, even though I'm trying to stay as neutral as I can, please take my ideas with a grain of salt.)
Morty Prime actively thinks that all healthy affection he receives from Rick isn't actually received from Rick (most likely paranoia from the Rickbot arc) or that he's in a scenario in which his family isn't real. His counsciousness has already started to agree and intertwine into his approach all of the things and actions that have previously hurt the teen. (For example, if his family lashes out at him, he's being ridiculed or hurt by them to some degree, then it must mean they're real. It is an objective truth.) And it makes me think that Morty may need to be away from his family to be able to acknowledge each of his traumatic experiences in order to attempt moving on from them.
I think that Morty in order to heal, will have to learn that he doesn't have to focus on others all the time and can learn how to depend on himself, because he lacks trust even in his own thoughts. And so far, Morty has barely digested his trauma, more of "shelving" it away for later or having occasional meltdowns once he's under too much pressure. He always seems to be stuck in survival mode in some way, meaning that his brain prioritizes keeping him alive, rather then caring for the damage.
So by those thoughts, it is a possibility that Rick's healing and Morty's healing, cannot partake side by side, and therefore may result in Morty leaving his family to achieve healthy progress.
Either way, this is all just speculating and my ideas, but I hope it helped some people in their own theories. (My inbox is VERY open to rambling about R&M in ANY WAY.)
(Side idea for my enjoyment: Morty leaving his family can play into the theory that Morty Prime may actively search out Evil Morty to understand how he can achieve a process and goal in which he doesn't "cling" to his family and Rick.)

night terrors
no warnings ig- maybe alcohol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summer never really was plagued by night terrors the way Morty was haunted by them. Whenever she did have a bad dream as a little girl, her parents let her cry it out unless she came to their room themselves. The rare times someone did come over was when Beth was blackout drunk and Jerry followed the soft wailing of his daughter to pet her head while he listened to her sob story of a nightmare. It never helped that Jerry basically coddled baby Morty whenever he woke up - a desperate attempt to even out the neglectful way they treated her first child because they were kids themselves. But all of Jerry‘s attempts were fruitless. Summer heard Morty whine and whimper almost every night through the drywall, even more so since Rick arrived. It was ironic for her to turn out fine with her mother’s neglectful ways. Jerry should’ve maybe considered listening to Beth more with Morty. Or maybe it was meant to be like this. Poor fucker. If his nightmares didn’t take form of bullies anymore it was definitely the looming danger of acid drooling monsters or aliens smart enough to conquer their planet if a self-proclaimed god in a lab coat fucked with them. Yeah, that sounded terrifying for a child. Or maybe the thing he feared most was more simple and childish - their grandfather who took out threats like that for breakfast. But tonight wasn’t a night like that. Summer didn’t wake up from Morty hitting his bedroom wall out of reflex. It was some faceless nightmare of her own that sent her lurching upright with a struggle for air. Whatever it was, she didn’t remember much aside from Jerry‘s face and a leathery hand reaching for her out of the black abyss surrounding her but she felt the aftermath of a sprinting heart and sweat sticking her tank top to her back. Her throat was dry enough to make her reach out to her empty bedside table. She never put a glass of water by her bed, but then again she never needed it.
Swiping back a stray hair, Summer pushed her blanket off to stand up on wobbly legs. She made her way over to the door, stepping over the creaky floorboard. The hallway was quiet but as she crept down the stairs, Summer noticed the flickering lights of the TV pouring out the living room. She had half the mind to blackmail Morty about watching TV on a school night but she definitely kept the info in the back of her mind for tomorrow’s breakfast as she avoided more creaky floorboards on her way to the kitchen. The moron even turned down the volume.
"Morty, I swear to god. Your nightly water trips are getting on my- on my last nerve."
Summer blinked once, twice to place the voice. The distinct alcoholic slur and the audible frown was familiar to her even in a sleepy state. And surely, it was Rick. Shuffling closer, Summer could peek over the couch‘s back to see her grandpa lounging in his oil stained wife beater, tinkering with a cube shaped hunk of metal. Like this she could see his hands at work, talented fingers coaxing loosened screws into their threads. He hissed a low "me cago en tu madre" when the phillips head slipped from the screw he was working on. Summer could make out the blue mesh of veins under the withered skin on the back of his hand. Rick really did have the hands of a worker - a mechanic or construction worker. They looked nothing like the office worker hands of Jerry, if he had even that. He seemed to sense her presence - if that was even possible - because his head turned to look at who he assumed to be Morty.
"Summer? What the fuck are you doing here?"
What was she doing here? She came for a glass of water but her throat was less parched now and something about her mysterious grandpa reeled her in like a damn fish. She took her bait and ran her clammy palm over the couch cushion by her grandpa‘s neck. "I woke up, obviously. I had a nightmare. No big deal." Her eyes pointedly stayed on Rick‘s hand holding a screwdriver or the coffee table with half a bottle of whiskey standing next to Rick‘s feet that he casually propped up onto the wood but she never met his gaze. Why was she even this honest? She could make some kind of excuse but it’s been months since her family showed interest in what she was doing. "Nightmare, huh?" Rick echoed her as if to taste the word on the tip of his tongue. Summer wondered if he had nightmares sometimes. She nodded, eyes finally flickering to his face. The TV casted lights and shadows on his old features. Right now he looked normal, not like that crazy scientist with a mean silver tongue that intimidated her the first time they met at the breakfast table. Summer was used to see the hollow green glow following Rick like a fucked up halo or even the zapping blue rays from devices that can both end and create wars. But now the angular features showed a different side. The soft studio lights of some late night show made him look like a regular addition to the family and it helped Summer release her tense shoulders for the first time in a while, like she didn‘t need to be sarcastic or indifferent all the time. A little voice in the back of her head told her that Morty could be his awkward idiotic self so why couldn’t she?
"Why are you up, grandpa?" She leaned her front against the couch back and kept her voice down just in case Morty did wake up again. "I‘m - bergh - well over the age of bed times. This piece of shit is m-more important." Rick averted his gaze and waved the cube in his hand. Summer hummed and reached for it only to have Rick shuffle it to his other hand and hold it out of reach. "Well, what is it? Can it, like, cause mass destruction or something? Or does it contain a totally freaky virus? Or—" Rick shushed his granddaughter and tossed the cube on the coffee table. "Calm your tits, Summer. It‘s- It‘s to cure Granorian crystals. The, the, the-" Rick rotated his hand as if to underline his search for the most simple explanation "-easiest planet to harvest them happens to have the most impure growth." His hand fell into his lap, the other one snatching the whiskey from the table. "You should go to bed. It’s Tuesday." Summer snorted but it sounded off. "Since when are you the responsible grandparent?"
"I‘m not." His gaze locked on the TV again and he knocked back a sip or two of liquor. "Just thought I get one night free of my annoying grandkids." Ouch. Rick delivered both praise and insults in the same gruff tone - not that he had many kind words to spare, save for Beth when he needed to get his way. "What do you need them for? Can’t you just get, yknow, earth crystals?" Rick belched after a deep gulp from the bottle and dismissively waved his free hand in Summer‘s general direction. "Don’t think about it. Do me- just do us a solid; go back to bed, Summer." Rick expected a bit of huffing and a snarky comment before Summer relented and went back upstairs but he saw her unmoving in his peripheral vision. Summer stared down at the couch cushion‘s seam as if it told her whatever kind of questions were important to a girl her age. Probably if that one guy in school liked her or not. Her fingers rubbed over a stain that looked like red wine her mother spilled last Christmas. "I don’t want to. It’s not like I can go back to sleep anyway. Not- It‘s not because of the dream or anything. Just-" Summer stumbled over her words to find any excuse that would save her the embarrassment of admitting she was a little scared to go back to sleep again. She bit the inside of her cheek when Rick cut her off with a long groan. "You really are Jerry‘s kid. You‘re- Y-You know dreams are just- bullshit hallucinatory experiences aaaaall the way up the hippocampus? It’s not- It’s imaginary, Summer. Just your dummy ape brain processing a bunch of shit while you’re asleep." Rick‘s tone was agitated while he gesticulated but he still scooted closer to the left, ultimately creating more space on the couch. Summer didn’t know where dreams came from, she wasn’t interested in it either but she silently rounded the couch to sit down next to her grandfather. Being this close, she would smell the faint whiskey breath and the Old Spice lingering around her. It was nice for once, calming even. "You know, I‘m not staying because I’m scared because that’s totally lame." Rick just grunted in some kind of indifferent agreement but Summer felt the need to clarify her decision even more. "I mean, it’s just a dream. I‘m not a loser like Morty. I don’t piss my own bed. That‘d be totally— gross." Summer turned back to Rick, fully expecting him to not even pay her any mind but when they locked eyes Summer finally shut her mouth. She never saw a look like this one on Rick‘s face. Not even around Morty - who was quite obviously his favorite grandchild and Summer reminded herself that she didn’t care about that.
Right now Rick‘s withered features looked almost soft even though the hard lines on his face didn’t even out at all. Maybe his resting face just looked mean like that - maybe he was frowning for so long that it became the default for Rick. But still, he looked almost fatherly. Summer‘s pathetic little attempt to look tough in front of the most powerful man she knew stirred something dead in his ribcage.
He remembered a tiny Beth sneaking into their old kitchen where Rick was fixing a leak in the sink. A single glance at his wrist watch told him it was time for Beth‘s nap because if Diane didn’t make her take one Beth would be tired and grumpy all evening. He tried to shoo her back to her room but only got a tantrum out of his daughter until he reluctantly set his task aside and laid down on the living room couch with Beth resting on his chest until Diane came back with their groceries.
"Yeah, sure. What - uhrp - Whatever." Rick looked back at the TV and Summer fell into his silence, her back sinking into the soft cushions. She barely followed the plot of whatever Rick was watching. It looked like some 70s war movie with bad explosions and subpar camera quality. Rick didn’t seem to be the type for nostalgia so it probably just happened to be on at this time of night. The dull colors made her lashes feel heavy again and she let her eyes roam the coffee table Rick still used as his footrest. The cube laid by his foot, forgotten until Rick needed to purify his drugs alien crystals. The whisky bottled left a wet little spot on the wood that she knew Rick wouldn’t wipe away. Jerry wanted to replace the table for a week now. Morty‘s latest comics were scattered on the other side of the table. He always left them in the living room because the idiot just has to get distracted two pages in. An unfamiliar pack of Newport Reds Non-Menthol caught her eye and Summer took a quick glance at Rick. If he noticed, he ignored it. Rick did always have the remnants of cigarette smoke on him but Summer never seen him with one before. There was probably a lot that Summer didn‘t know about her grandpa. She wondered how much her mom really knew about him.
The movie crept close to its finale when a warm weight sank onto Rick‘s thigh. He lowered the bottle from his chapped lips to find soft ginger hair draped over his khaki pants. He went still for a moment with his granddaughter‘s head on his lap. This was territory he hadn’t wet his toes in for decades. Rick wasn’t a stranger to the warmth of another body but this was tender and innocent, enough to take him back in time. He downed the last of his whiskey in one gulp and indulged in the hot rush that followed. The credits rolled on the screen while the bottle neck dangled from his bony fingers.
"How drunk are you right now?"
Rick hummed as if he was doing the math in his head before answering. "Wasted." He put the empty bottle on the fuzzy carpet and shimmied his feet off the table without disturbing Summer in her position. Not that he would admit that.
"So in the morning this didn’t happen?"
Rick took his sweet ass time eyeing Summer and weighing out an answer before he gave a low "yeah, Sum-Sum" and looking back at whatever commercial was on. If Rick ever was good at anything it had to be pretending. He could pretend for Summer just this once too.

Save Me: Chapter 24 - I Need You
~Hey Guys! Chapter 24 is out now :) Negan’s leadership starts to crumble as people turn against him and Molly learns of Tara’s fate...I hope everyone is well and having a good day! Love ya’ll <3~
Negan wishes Molly was still at the Sanctuary as he realises he needs her now more than ever, especially when everything is started to crumble around him. He comes to realise that the only person he could ever trust was Molly and everyone else are just people willing to stab him in the back to get ahead in life.
Negan's POV//
I waited in the meeting room, my feet up on the table and Lucille strung over my shoulder.
Simon knocked on the door and walked in, he looked guilty.
'So, did they surrender?' I said throwing my hands in the air.
He looked down saying 'we got royally fucked. My plan would've worked but we were betrayed'.
I shot him a look of scepticism, my grip on Lucille tightening in annoyance.
'How?' I said rubbing my forehead and squinting.
'Dwight, he sabotaged our weapons. He destroyed the guts' he said slowly.
I scowled then a smile rose across my face which made Simon frown in confusion.
'Alright, Si. Bring the fucker to me' I said ushering him out.
He backed out quickly and after a short while presented Dwight to me.
He didn't look at me, obviously knowing why he was here.
'Thank you Simon' I said as he walked out, leaving just the two of us.
I stood up and walked towards him, 'so, I hear the run went to shit. Why was that Dwighty-boy?' I said leaning over him.
He told me the truth, I was surprised that he did. He had balls that was for sure.
But something else that he said caught my attention more.
'I was weak, I know. But, I own up to that, others wouldn't' he said quietly.
I frowned and titled my head, asking 'others like who?'.
He hesitated before saying 'Simon's been plotting behind your back. He's been trying to take over for months now and he sent guys to find Molly and have her killed'.
My eyes fixed on him when he mentioned her name.
Rage filled my body as I clenched my jaw, trying to relieve some tension.
I walked around the room as he just stood there awkwardly.
'You lot are a bunch of sorry shits, you really are. Where's your fucking proof? Is it on the floor with your loyalty?' I growled.
'I can prove it to you' he said.
'Alright D, follow me' I said as I marched out of the room.
We walked down the hallway to his room, 'get changed, then the fun begins' I said sinisterly.
He opened his door to reveal Laura, Diane and Jed.
Dwight tried to turn around but I blocked him at the entrance. I nodded to them to signal his punishment.
They started beating him up as I stood watching.
'Sorry D, I rate you telling me the truth, but you still got my men killed' I said scowling.
His punishment was deserving, he put everyone else at risk through his actions.
But, a part of me was slightly relieved. I kept thinking about if Molly was there, if she got injured or if Simon had killed her out there.
But I had a special punishment waiting for him.
Once they had finished beating up Dwight, I pulled him up to his feet and chuckled at the state of him.
'Je-esus, you look like shit' I said smiling.
'C'mon D, its show time' I said as the others shoved him forward.
I watched from the window as Dwight stood in the courtyard having a smoke, he looked nervous.
'Hey, it's shit huh?' Dean said coming out to talk to him with a few others.
'Yea' Dwight answered looking up at me briefly.
'Gotta think you wanted this before we did' he replied.
Dwight said nothing until Simon approached him.
'If you're here right now, you're in. We can talk about approaches and finesses but you are in, no take-backs' Simon said moving around the circle of men that now surrounded him and Dwight.
'We need to make this quick, quiet and respectful. The man's done a lot for us, he deserves that' he said as everyone nodded in agreement.
'You' he said pointing at Dwight.
'You have some legitimate personal issues with the man, the kill is yours if you want it' he said getting closer to him.
'Something quiet, I mean not a knife, can't make it that personal' he said chuckling.
'We call a meeting and thats it. The next order of business is to set the break to start the healing, the catalysing event to facilitate that is the destruction of Rick's group, once and for all. Then, we will get on with our lives, right Dwight?' he said wandering around all of them.
I made my way to the door and marched out into the courtyard whistling, Dwight looked at me and Simon just froze.
I'd caught the bastard red handed.
I walked over to Dwight and slung an arm around him and sighed, 'thank you D, I'll take it from here' I said patting him on the back.
My gaze fixed on Simon's pathetic face.
I stood in front of him and said 'three, two, one...' and then my guys killed the ones who had betrayed me, leaving Simon alive.
Arat and Regina came out aiming their guns at Simon, blocking him in.
They took Simon's weapons from him as he looked at me, helpless.
Suddenly, Simon lunged for Dwight screaming 'agh!' as he tried to grab at him.
My guys pulled him away from him.
'Now there is the Simon that I know, comes right at ya instead of that backstabby bullshit' I said as I walked away from him.
'Why? After everything he did to you, huh? Why do this?!' Simon yelled at Dwight.
'He'd win' Dwight said defeatedly.
That made me smile.
'You sent some guys after Molly didn't you Simon, after I specifically told you not to do that shit' I said now scowling as I plunged Lucille into the heads of the bodies lying around.
'Well, after all this and me being me, I'm still gonna give you your shot' I said smirking at him.
I moved closer to him, saying 'you wanna be the man, you gotta beat the man. You can do that? Hell, then you should be the man'.
'Take him away' I said ushering to my guys as they dragged him down to the cells.
I walked over to Dwight who was standing there, now more confidently.
'Did they kill her?' I asked looking away from him and squinting in the distance.
'No, the guys he sent were all found dead. She's now at the Hilltop' Dwight said looking down.
I snapped back to look at him, trying not to show my relief.
I just nodded, 'I figured she'd run back to Rick' I said as I walked away.
Sherry's POV//
I stood by the window as I watched Negan and Dwight talk.
It looked serious, but Negan wasn't pissed.
Once I saw Negan walk back inside I tapped on the window which alerted Dwight to my position. I beckoned him up and he rushed upstairs.
'Sherry, I can't be in here' he said as I pulled him into the ex-wives room.
'Did you tell him where Molly is?' I said anxiously pleading him.
He looked at me with confusion, 'why?' he asked.
'He can't know where she is, none of them can, especially not him or Simon' I said looking away, tears forming in my eyes.
He stroked my arm 'Sherry, tell me' he whispered.
I looked down and sighed heavily, 'look I can't alright. Just know that they've both hurt her more than I can say and she's safer if they don't know where she is. It's better they know she's dead, especially for Negan' I said now looking into his eyes.
He was so beautiful.
I looked away from him and was about to leave the room when he stopped me.
'Sherry...they both know where she is now' he said sadly.
I looked up at him and shook my head 'no' I whispered in disbelief.
'How could you do that!' I yelled, pushing him away from me, he moved back towards me and grabbed my arm.
'Tell me! What happened Sherry? I know that you know' he said softly.
Spinning back around I looked at him, my lips trembling 'Simon raped her, Dwight. Negan doesn't know' I said hurriedly, trying to force the words from my mouth.
He looked at me in disbelief for a second before saying 'oh my god'.
He sat down and I moved to sit with him as he processed this.
'The bruises, she...' he said which trailed off with every realisation.
'Fucking bastard' he whispered with gritted teeth, I just nodded in agreement.
'Negan needs to know' Dwight said slowly as he stood up and paced around the room.
'What? No, Dwight, If he knew, we both know he would go straight to Hilltop' I said trying to reason with him.
He nodded, 'but he would kill Simon for what he did' he said with rage filled eyes.
I looked down and took time to think, 'it should be me, I should tell him' I said moving closer to Dwight now.
He just shook his head.
'No, listen to me Dwight...If he heard it from me, I would be able to convince him to leave her in peace' I said taking his hand.
'No, what if he takes his anger out on you, huh?' Dwight yelled.
'He wouldn't! He knows how close Molly and I are, so if anything he'll be sympathetic' I yelled back.
Dwight just huffed and stormed out of the room, leaving me alone with one hefty decision.
Molly's POV//
I awoke gently, with the light streaming through the curtains.
I was dazed, like it was a dream, not fully recollecting the events of last night until I darted up suddenly and looked at Tara.
She was still sleeping peacefully, breathing normally and had a slight smile on her face.
I exhaled when I saw she was safe and relatively unharmed.
I must have woken her by my sudden jolt as she squirmed and inhaled, out stretching one arm.
'Morning' she said softly.
'How are you feeling?' I responded, coming round to her side of the bed and plonking myself down beside her.
'Good, all things considered' she said pointing to her wrapped up shoulder.
'Mind if I take a quick look?' I asked as I peeled away the bandages to reveal a wound which was healing nicely.
I grinned widely at this.
'There's something you're not telling me' she said with her eyebrows raised and a smile which was less wide than mine.
I looked down and sighed, 'last night, a few people got hit and wounded. Jesus managed to patch them up, but as hours past they started to turn but the wounds weren't severe enough to kill any of them' I said slowly.
She looked confused before she said slowly, 'so, you think that they contaminated the bullets or poisoned the arrows?'.
I just nodded.
'But I feel fine' she said sitting up.
I just smiled hesitantly and nodded, 'yeah, Dwight hit you right? Maybe he was actually saving you' I said shrugging my shoulders.
She just contemplated what I had said when I got up to get her some breakfast.
I met Rick on the stairs who said, 'how's she doing?'.
'She's fine, perfectly normal. Maybe Dwight did save her after all' I said moving past him.
He just nodded and said 'mhm'.
I grabbed some fruit from the orchard and some slices of bread for Tara when Maggie came into the kitchen to get some water for her prenatal pills.
I smiled at her and said 'hey, how are you doing after last night?'.
She looked far more hopeful than yesterday.
'Better, I know no one wanted me to be out there but you knew why I needed it' she said holding her stomach.
I just nodded in agreement.
'How's Tara?' she asked filling up a cup.
'The wound's healing as it should. She wants to get up and get back to work. She's fine' I said, almost disbelieving of my own words.
She hugged me and said, 'I'm so glad, but you know that we can't trust Dwight. He's still a Saviour' she said sternly.
'Yeah, I know' I said with sadness in my voice.
Was he really trying to help us? Did Negan want to kill me?
Daryl's POV//
In the early hours of the morning, before anyone else was up, I jumped into one of our trucks and went on the road to gather walkers to follow me.
I was heading for the Sanctuary.
I couldn't rest until we fought back, I was sick of always just managing to keep them away and not attacking them directly.
Once I had a sizeable hoard following me I parked the truck outside the Sanctuary gates and loaded up the only rpg we had left.
I shot it at the gates which exploded open.
The sound and sight of the explosion drew the walkers into the courtyard and sending another rocket off, it made a huge hole in the main doors.
The walkers now had a clear path to get in and wreak havoc like they tried to do to us.
I took a final look at the devastation before I picked up my crossbow and headed off into the woods on my way home...

Negan and Chuck are sitting side by side on the front steps to the porch, waiting for the ambulance and Rick to come. Negan has his arm around Chuck, rubbing up and down on her right arm in reassurance as she clutches her broken left one to her chest.
“Does it hurt a lot?” he asks.
“Yeah,” she chokes out. “The bite does, too.”
Negan growls low in his chest at the thought of Eldritch trying to claim Chuck.
“It’s okay,” she whispers. “We made it out of it.”
They sit in silence for a few more moments before a bark pierces the air.
“Oh my god! Mozart!” Chuck calls out and jumps up to follow the noise.
Negan follows, too, and they find the dog in the fenced in part of the back yard, safe and sound.
Chuck’s tears are renewed upon seeing the dog. “Oh my god!” She bends down to try to pet Mozart. “How did I forget about you?!”
In actuality, Mozart is a very friendly dog and when Eldritch came to the back door, Mozart simply greeted him with a wag of his tale and cheerfully walked outside when Eldritch prompted him. Eldritch then closed the door after him, locking the dog outside and out of the way.
Negan scratches Mozart behind the ears, but is quick to nudge Chuck back up. “He’s fine back here. I don’t want you to hurt your arm worse.”
Chuck nods then kisses the dog on the head. “It’s okay, Mozart. We’ll come back for you.”
Negan leads Chuck back around the house just in time to see Rick’s cruiser coming down the driveway. Somehow, he had beaten the ambulance there.
As Rick exits the driver’s side, a dark skinned woman with thick dreads dressed in a smart pant suit exits the passenger side. They both take in the sight of Chuck and Negan and are taken aback. Both of them are have a significant amount of blood on them. Negan is covered in blood from his mouth all the way down his chest, his formerly white button up completely ruined. Chuck’s fluffy white robe has blood staining the shoulder and some of her left sleeve. The newcomers school their expressions to spare Chuck and Negan the knowledge of just how bad they look.
Rick walks up to the couple. “EMS should be here any minute.” He turns to the woman off to his right. “This is Michonne. She’s my girlfriend, but she’s a lawyer, too.”
Michonne starts to talk quickly. “We don’t have a lot of time before the other cops get here, so tell me everything that happened.”
As Chuck and Negan go over the details with Michonne, Rick goes into the house to check to on Eldritch. The man in question is laying in a large pool of blood, his throat obviously ripped out. A very quick check of the pulse shows that the man is good and dead. When he comes back out, Negan is just starting to go over what happened when he got there.
“...and he was fuckin’ biting her and I saw red. I thought he claimed her. I just fuckin’ pulled him of her and started punching. Then he started to fuckin’ strangle me, saying he was gonna fuckin’ kill me. Then, Chuck got him off me. He fuckin’ pushed her back and I bit him.”
Michonne nods as she takes notes in her pad. “We have a lot going for us for this to be justifiable homicide. With everything you said... just tell the detectives all that. And Rick had written reports of what you told him before, so there is a record of that. It strengthens your case.”
Chuck and Negan nod.
Michonne lets out a heavy breath. “It will help your case if you refer to each other as your mate to the detectives. Really play up that ‘true mates’ thing. I know there isn’t an actual claim, but you’re still dating and if we can convince the detectives that you see each other as mates, it will be better for you.”
They both nod again as they start to hear sirens.
Michonne continues. “I need you to stay calm, Negan.”
“Okay,” he responds.
“Because they’re going to arrest you.”
“What?!” he calls out. “You just fuckin’ told me it was justifiable!”
Michonne puts her hands up in a soothing gesture. “That’s for the courts to decide, not the police.”
Negan throws his arms up. “Are you fucking kidding me?!”
Chuck starts to cry again. “He can’t go to jail!”
“I’m not gonna fuckin’ leave her,” Negan says with conviction to Rick.
The sheriff takes the placating stance now. “You have to calm down before they get here or they’ll take you straight to the alpha psych ward and they’ll dope you for seventy two hours.”
Negan looks up to the blue and red lights shining through the trees as multiple cars and two ambulances race down the road to the house. The thought of being away from Chuck for three days isn’t at all attractive. He takes a deep breath to calm down and puts his arm back around Chuck. “I won’t fuckin’ fight them,” he decides.
“I’m pretty sure I can convince the district attorney not to press charges,” Michonne says quickly before more people come. “Just hang tight and cooperate.”
The cavalcade finally pulls up and the whole scene turns to chaos. One detective questions Chuck as she’s getting treated in one ambulance. Negan gets the same treatment, though he doesn’t have as extensive of wounds as Chuck does. The EMTs say he doesn’t need to go to the hospital, but they do take Chuck to get X-rays for her arm. Both Chuck and Negan don’t want to be separated, but they know that they have to be for now.
During the investigation, the police log and take pictures of all of the scrapes and bruises on Negan’s skin, including the deep bruises around his neck from being almost strangled to death. Cops are in and out of the house for hours, taking pictures and dusting for fingerprints, all the while, Rick and Michonne stand by Negan.
One of the detectives comes over to Rick and starts to go over their preliminary findings. “Back door was definitely jimmied. And that dog isn’t much of a watchdog. Seems pretty likely the vic broke in which is consistent with the statements. Evidence all supports the couple’s story, so your friends are seeming innocent.”
Rick shakes the detective’s hand. “Thanks, detective.”
“We still gotta take the alpha downtown, though.” He flicks his gaze to Negan.
Rick nods. “Yeah. He knows that. He’s not gonna fight it.”
Negan can hear the whole exchange, but he decides to keep his mouth shut, no matter how much he doesn’t want to.
Finally, the cops take Negan to the jail and get him processed. Luckily enough for him, it’s standard practice to keep alphas mostly in isolation, so he doesn’t have to deal with any other prisoners in his cell.
Not that he really cares about himself right now, anyway. All he can think about is Chuck and how she must be handling everything.
When the ambulance pulls out taking CHuck to the hospital, Chuck asks one of the EMTs to contact her mother, who should be at work right now. The kind beta, who happens to know a lot of workers at Charity General Hospital where Diane is, gets word to her. She says she will get to Spring Harbor Medical Center as quickly as she can to be with Chuck.
Chuck gets wheeled in to get her arm X-rayed. It reveals a fracture in her wrist that needs to be set in a cast. Her shoulder is also looked at more extensively. Dr. Bailey, who was called in to oversee all of Chuck’s medical procedures, determines that Chuck is very lucky not to have been claimed by Eldritch.
“One inch up and it would have been a full claim,” Dr. Bailey explains to Chuck and Diane. “We could have reversed it, but...” she lets out a breath. “You were very lucky.”
It’s an incredibly long day, but eventually, Chuck gets the chance to relax at her mother’s house. They had stopped off at Rick’s to pick up Mozart before heading home, as Rick took the dog for safe keeping.
“You okay, sweetie?” Diane asks softly as she pushes some of Chuck’s hair from her face.
Chuck lets out a deep breath. “I think I’m just gonna take some of those pain pills and go to bed.” She starts to walk into the kitchen to pour herself a water, but she pauses and turns back. “Do you think Negan is okay?”
“I’m sure he’s fine.” Diane hugs her daughter gently. “You heard Michonne when we picked up Mozart. She figures Negan will get released tomorrow.”
Diane’s phone goes off and she looks at the message. “Aaron’s boarding his plane now. He’ll be here tomorrow morning.”
Chuck nods. “That’s good.” She heads into the kitchen and takes her two pills. “I’m gonna go to bed. Night, Mom.”
Diane gives Chuck a quick kiss on her head. “Night, sweetie. I love you.”
“Love you, too. Come on, Mozart,” she says to the dog, who is laying on the couch. “Let’s go upstairs.”
Mozart follows her up to her room and settles in at the foot of her bed. By the time Chuck slips under the covers, the pills have made her drowsy enough to have her falling asleep quickly.
The next morning, Chuck sleeps in, her body taking all the rest it can. When she finally gets herself up and around, Aaron is already there, sitting in the kitchen.
“Hey, sweetie,” he chokes out and steps forward to hug Chuck.
“Hey, Uncle Aaron,” she replies softly.
“I’m so sorry, Chucky.” He starts to cry as his guilt builds. All he can think of is that Eldritch wouldn’t ave attacked her if she weren’t at his isolated house.
“It wasn’t your fault,” Chuck is quick to say. “I don’t blame you.”
Diane walks in. “Michonne has been texting me all morning. Negan is going to get released within the hour.”
“Thank god,” Chuck says automatically.
“Michonne’s going to drop him off here.”
Three hours later, a car pulls into the driveway. Chuck jumps out of her seat on the couch and runs out the door. Negan is already stepping out of the car when he sees Chuck, so he rushes toward her, too. When they meet, Negan wraps her up in his arms, lifting her off the ground.
“Are you okay?” He sets her back down and cradles her face in his hands.
She runs her fingers over the cuts and bruises on his face that have developed overnight. “Oh, Negan. I’m sorry.”
He grabs her hand and brings it to his lips to kiss her palm. “I’m fine, baby girl.” He gently takes ahold of her cast. “Is it bad?”
She shakes her head. “It’s broken, but it’ll heal.”
“Are you in pain?”
“A little.”
“Shit,” he mutters. “I fuckin’ hate that.”
Michonne comes up behind them and clears her throat, causing the couple to turn to her.
“Hello, Michonne,” Chuck greets. “Thank you for taking care of all of this.”
She smiles warmly. “You’re welcome. I’m sorry you both went through what you did.”
“So is this all over,” Chuck asks.
Michonne gives a tentative nod. “I think so. There’s a slight chance the district attorney could still take it to trial, but I sincerely doubt that will happen.”
Negan holds his hand out to her to shake. “Seriously. Thank you for this. You and Rick. You saved my ass.”
“You’re welcome,” she says again. “I need to get back. I’ll keep in touch, though. Hopefully I can get your phones back from evidence tonight and release Aaron’s house as a crime scene.”
They all bid their farewells and Michonne leaves. The Langdon family plus Negan all go back into Diane’s living room and share some hugs upon Negan’s homecoming.
“Fuck,” Negan mutters at some point. “I need to call the fuckin’ dealership and tell him what happened.” He gets on Diane’s landline and dials the familiar number to work, asking for his boss.
“Hello, Negan,” Mr. Adams says in an unimpressed tone.
“Look,” Negan starts to explain. “Some shit happened, but I’ll be back at work on Monday.”
“No you won’t,” his boss says flatly. “You’re done.”
“Are you fuckin’ firing me?”
“Yeah, Negan. I’m firing you.”
“You know how many fuckin’ cars I’ve sold for you?”
“You know how many days you’ve missed in the last few months? You walked out in the middle of a sale yesterday!”
Negan takes a deep breath, knowing that there’s nothing more he can say. “Fine.” He hangs up the phone and stands in place, pinching the bridge of his nose.
Chuck had heard the whole exchange from behind Negan. “You didn’t really like that job anyway,” she says quietly, trying to make Negan feel better.
He turns around and nods. “You’re fuckin’ right. I goddamn hate that fucker Adams. He’s a piece of shit.”
Chuck steps forward and hugs Negan’s torso. “You’ll find something better.”
He kisses her forehead. “Yeah, baby girl. I will.”
The pair lay low at Diane’s house, along with Aaron, since his house was first a crime scene and then it needed a few days at least to get cleaned up by a professional crime scene cleaning company.
The couple finally heads back home and resumes their “laying low” lifestyle, since neither of them are working at the moment. Ad Astra software decided to shut down temporarily, considering someone very high up in the hierarchy is now dead with extreme circumstances. Chuck isn’t too concerned with heading back to work with them anyway. Not that it was really the company’s fault, but it still leaves a sour taste in her mouth.
One afternoon, Rick stops by as Chuck and Negan are in Negan’s apartment. They all sit in the living room.
Rick scratches at his beard in apprehension. “There’s been a development.”
Both Chuck and Negan sit forward in anticipation of what Rick might say. They were under the impression that the whole thing was over.
“They’re not fuckin’ prosecuting me, are they?” Negan asks.
“No.” Rick takes a deep breath and continues. “We ran Eldritch’s DNA through the system. It matched a thirteen year old cold case of a beta woman that was raped, strangled, and bitten on the neck. That case’s MO matched several other unsolved cases in the past twenty years. All betas. All bitten. All redheads in their early twenties with similar body shapes.”
Chuck is too shocked to say anything. The man that was her boss and then attacked her had actually killed people.
Negan blurts out, “You’re fuckin’ kidding me.” He’s shocked, too.
“All the cases, he was meticulous in cleaning the bodies of evidence. But that one, we think he was rushed or something. The FBI is involved now because some of the victims were from Maryland. They’re set to have a press conference in twenty minutes.”
“Oh my god!” Chuck finally cries out. “He was going to kill me?”
Rick shakes his head. “We found journals in his house. He was fixated on...”He looks away. “He wanted to breed you. It seems like you were the first omega he met that matched his type.” Rick lets out a sigh. “FBI profilers are saying it’s alpha psychosis. Their instincts to mate go haywire causing them to be violent. They said it can come and go, so they look and act completely normal one day and then...”
Chuck lets out a sob and leans into Negan for comfort.
“I knew he was fucked up. I should’ve killed that fucker the second I met him,” Negan growls out.
Chuck’s phone starts to go off. She doesn’t recognize the number, but she answers it anyway after wiping at her cheeks.
“Hello?”
“Charlotte Langdon?”
“Yes, that’s me.”
“My name is Kate Pine and I work with the Richmond Times. I’d like to ask you some questions about being the only survivor of the Redhead Killer.”
Chuck is taken aback. “W-What?”
The woman continues. “Is it true you were saved by your true mate?”
Negan looks over to her and sees her confusion. “Who is it?”
Chuck answers. “It’s a reporter.”
Kate overhears. “Is that Negan? Put me on speaker.”
Negan snatches the phone out of Chuck’s hand and hangs it up. “Fuckin’ reporters. Really?”
Rick shakes his head. “A high profile case like this, they’ll come out of the woodwork.”
“Great.” Negan’s phone starts to ring then from an unknown. “Are you fuckin’ kidding me?”
“The reporter asked about us being true mates,” Chuck says.
“Shit.” Rick scratches at his jaw. “Someone leaked the case file to the press before the press conference. That true mates stuff was in the report. They weren’t gonna mention it in front of the cameras.”
Negan shoots up from the couch and starts to pace. “Motherfucker! We just went though that shit with that psychopath fuck and now we gotta deal with the fucking press?!”
Rick stands. “I’ll see what I can do. This isn’t my jurisdiction, but I’ll ask the police here if they can watch you guys. And I’m gonna talk to your landlords and ask that they lock that downstairs door. It should be locked as it is.”
Chuck’s phone starts to ring again. “God!” She looks at the unfamiliar number. “I’m just going to block these numbers.”
Negan hands her his phone. “Block them on mine, too.”
Rick starts to walk to the door. “I’m sorry about all this. You guys take care of yourselves.” He leaves.
The whole rest of the night, Chuck and Negan get calls from various reporters and their numbers are quickly blocked. But they keep coming and coming until about midnight when they mercifully die off.
The next day, the calls start again and more numbers get blocked. When Chuck’s phone starts to ring right after lunch, Negan has almost had enough.
“This is fucking ridiculous!”
Chuck looks at her phone, ready to deny the call and block the number, but she stops when she sees Dr. Bailey’s name on the screen.
“It’s Dr. Bailey,” Chuck says before answering. “Hello?”
“Hello, Chuck. How are you?”
“Actually, uh... I’m getting hounded by reporters,” she explains.
“Well,” Dr. Bailey pauses, “that’s why I’m calling. I’ve been getting calls, too. They’ve been asking me about you and Negan and whether you two are really true mates.”
“Oh, god.”
“I haven’t said anything, of course. I don’t know how they even got my name. I haven’t even published any of my findings concerning your being true mates, yet. Not that I would have had your real names in there, anyway,” Dr. Bailey assures. “I just wanted you to know that that information is out there.”
“Yeah. We knew that,” Chuck admits. “But thank you, anyway for telling us.”
“You’re welcome. It just seems that the public may be interested in you and Negan being true mates and I want you to be safe. I don’t want them to just see you as a commodity.”
“We’re trying to lay low as it is. But thank you for your concern. We just want to move past all this.”
Later, just before they sit down to eat dinner in Negan’s apartment, they hear a knock on the door. Their landlords had taken Rick’s suggestion of locking the main door to the building from non residents, so it’s a little weird that someone is there.
Negan gets up from the table and looks through the peephole. “Are you fuckin’ kidding me?” he mutters as he spies a young woman with a microphone in her hand standing in front of a guy with a camera on his shoulder pointed at the door.
“Who is it?” Chuck asks.
“A fucking reporter,” he answers.
“How’d they get in?” Chuck stands from her seat.
“They’re fuckin’ rats.” He turns back to the door and starts to yell without opening it. “Get the fuck away from my door or I’m gonna call the fucking cops!”
The beta reporter is undeterred. “Please, Negan. We just want a comment. Were you protecting your true mate from the Redhead Killer?”
“Go away!” he yells again.
“You would be the first reported instance of true mates in modern times. Would you care to comment on that,” she tries again.
Negan has had enough. “I said go the fuck away !” His alpha voice doesn’t affect betas like it does omegas, but betas still know that it’s smart to obey a command from an alpha.
The reporter and her cameraman quickly leave without another word.
“What the fuck,” Negan says to himself.
Chuck gently rests her good hand on his chest. “Why do they care about all this?”
He pulls her into him and hugs her. “Because they’re fuckin’ vultures.”
During the next week, Chuck and Negan hunker down in Chuck’s apartment. The story of The Redhead Killer and the only victim to make it out alive, who happens to be true mates with the alpha who saved her, positively blows up. It’s front page news on every newspaper in the city. All the local news stations try to get interviews with anyone even remotely close the Chuck and Negan as their main stories. Fortunately, the people closest to them refuse. Even Simon.
Rick and Michonne do their best to try to protect Chuck and Negan, which actually does help. The reporters stop contacting the pair after Michonne issues a statement saying that they would not be giving any interviews. And Rick makes it clear that any people found trespassing where Chuck and Negan live will be arrested.
Since the both of them are still not working, they really have no reason to leave the building anyway. Chuck officially leaves Ad Astra Software with a generous severance package that gives her enough money to live off of temporarily. She knows they gave her the money just so she doesn’t sue them, but she wouldn’t have done that anyway.
Negan has a lot in savings, as well. Not that he had ever touched that money before, really. It was Lucille’s, after all. She was an only child and had inherited her parents’ assets when they died. Lucille and Negan were newlyweds at the time, so they moved into the house her parents had left her and put the money in savings for any children they might have had. That didn’t happen, though, and a good part of that money went to Lucille’s cancer treatment. After Lucille died, Negan sold the house and put all the money in a savings account, never to be thought of again. At least until now, when he needs it.
Thanksgiving comes around and Chuck and Negan decide to brave leaving their little cocoon to head to Diane’s for dinner. Things are okay when they first leave their building, but then Negan notices a car following them after a few blocks.
“Are you fuckin’ kidding me?”
“What?” Chuck asks.
“There’s a black Suburban following us.”
“What?” Chuck looks out the back window and sees the car Negan is talking about a few cars back. “Are you sure it’s following us?”
“Yeah. I think I saw a guy point a fuckin’ camera out the back.”
“Oh my god! We’re not even doing anything but driving.”
“If they approach this car, I’ll fuckin’ kill them.”
“Just... Don’t do anything, Negan. They want to sell the pictures or make a story out of it. If we don’t give them anything, they’ll go away.”
“Fuckin’ vultures. It’s fuckin’ Thanksgiving for Christ’s sake! We’re trying to see goddamn family.” He takes a sudden turn to try to loose them.
“Negan!” Chuck cries out, having not expected the movement.
“Those fuckers are not following us all the way to Diane’s.” He takes a few more unsignaled turns and loses the reporters before they leave the city.
Chuck isn’t exactly impressed with his driving. “Don’t do that again.”
“What?”
“Drive like an idiot! You could’ve killed us both!”
“I had it under control.”
“I’d rather have a million pictures get taken of us than to get in a car crash.”
“Sorry I scared you.” He reaches over and grabs her hand, bringing it up to his lips to kiss her fingers, since the rest of it is under the cast.
They make it to Diane’s without any further incident and pull into her driveway. She lives in a nice little neighborhood with its own neighborhood watch. Diane had told Chuck and Negan that they had to chase away a few reporters, but they haven’t had any trouble for a few days.
Diane greets Chuck and Negan as they enter. “How was the drive?” she asks.
Negan hugs Diane then Aaron. “We had some shit stuck to our heel for a ways.”
Diane somehow understands that he means a reporter had followed them. “Really? They followed you from your apartment?”
“I think they picked us up away from home,” Negan explains. “They know they’ll get nabbed by the fuckin’ cops if they set foot on that property.”
“They should be arrested,” Aaron throws in his two cents. “What sort of amoral assholes hound two people that just went through what you guys did?”
Chuck nods. “I never really thought about how invasive the press could be. I guess I always just assumed that they asked permission for the photos and stuff.”
Despite the craziness of their lives at the moment, once they sit down to eat, the meal is pretty relaxed.
“You need some help, baby girl?” Negan asks Chuck as she picks up her utensils to cut up her meat.
She giggles. “No. I can manage,” she answers. “I’m getting the hang of this thing.” She lifts her left arm to indicate the cast on her wrist.
He chuckles and holds his hand up. “Just asking.”
“Does it still hurt?” Aaron asks.
“Not really,” Chuck answers. “Every once in a while I’ll have to take some ibuprofen.” She shrugs a shoulder. “It’s not bad. More annoying than anything.”
Diane swallows her bite before talking. “Remember when you broke your foot?”
Negan turns to Chuck. “You broke your foot?”
“Yeah. My senior year in high school,” Chuck explains. “It sucked. I almost didn’t graduate because the gym teacher wouldn’t work with me and I wouldn’t have had the PE credits to graduate if I failed the class.”
“Then I went right to the principal,” Diane jumps in. “She wasn’t too happy with that asshole coach after I told her everything.”
“What a dick,” Negan comments. “I wouldn’t have let you fuckin’ fail.”
“That’s right.” Aaron points at Negan with his fork. “You were a gym coach.”
“I was.”
“Are you thinking of going back to it?” Diane asks. “Since you’re unemployed.”
Chuck looks up to Negan with a smile. He had told her before that he loved teaching kids, so the thought of him doing it again as a warmth blooming in her chest.
“I don’t know,” he answers. He hadn’t really thought about it, but now that the suggestion is out there, it is a good one. “I don’t know if any school would fuckin’ take me, though. Considering the goddamn shit show I’m living now.”
“You weren’t convicted of anything,” Chuck points out. “All the charges were dropped.”
“Everyone still knows I fuckin’ killed someone, though. Parents would probably flip their shit about that.”
“Well, you won’t know until you ask,” Aaron provides.
The rest of the meal is filled with light conversation and a lot of laughs. It’s unlike any Thanksgiving Negan had ever had. When he was a kid, the holiday meal was tense. His alpha father was a violent drunk that treated his omega mother like a slave. Nothing she did was good enough for her husband, so the meal often devolved into smashed plates and screams.
After his parents died, the next time he had Thanksgiving dinner was with Lucile and her family. That was also tense, considering her family hated him from the get.
But this is a real family holiday meal. No yelling. No tears. No broken glass. No glares from across the table. This is absolutely perfect. And it has Negan daydreaming about cooking his own turkey in his own kitchen in his own house in the suburbs. He wouldn’t make Chuck slave away at the meal by herself, like his father. He’d help out. Shit, he’d do most of it. Diane and Aaron would be there. Maybe he’d invite Simon, if he didn’t have any place to be. The kids would be seated at their own little table off to the side with their own little plates.
Kids? Negan questions himself.
“You all done, Negan?” Diane pulls him from his thoughts as she points to his plate.
“Oh, uh...” He clears his throat. “Let me do that.” He stands with his plate in his hand and moves to pick up the others on the table.
“No, no. You’re a guest,” Diane tries.
“You cooked all that shit. Let me clean up.” Negan continues to gather the plates, despite Diane huffing beside him.
Chuck giggles at the exchange. “Me and Aaron are gonna set up the other room while you guys clean up.” She and Aaron quickly leave to go back into the living room.
Diane chuckles to herself. “They do that every year.” She shakes her head and walks over to the sink with Negan.
He puts the dirty plates in the sink and starts to wash them. “They leave you to clean up every year?”
“They do.” She takes the cleaned plate from Negan and dries it off, setting it on the counter. “Did you like the meal?” she asks with a smirk.
He smiled. “I fuckin’ loved it.”
She chuckles. “I saw that goofy grin on your face.”
“I’m forty seven years old and that was the first nice Thanksgiving dinner I had.”
Diane’s face turns sad. “Really?”
“Yup. My home life wasn’t exactly The Waltons when I was a kid. And after I got married...” He pauses. “Her family didn’t like me much.” He looks back down in the sink and scrubs one of the plates.
Diane pats him on the back. “Well, you’re welcome here. It might’ve been rough at first, but you’re family now.”
He smiles at her. “Thanks, Diane.”
“But don’t you dare ever call me mom,” she jokes. “I’m only a year older than you.”
“Shit, really?”
She playfully punches his arm. “I don’t look that bad for my age!”
He laughs. “I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just... shit. Chuck is fuckin’ young, I guess.”
“I wasn’t really that old when I had her. Just turned twenty two. Me and her dad got pregnant on our honeymoon, pretty much.”
“Shit.”
“Yeah. But Chuck is the best thing to ever happen to me.”
Negan doesn’t say anything as he starts to wash the last plate.
“You don’t have to say it,” Diane whispers. “But I know she’s the best thing to happen to you, too.”
He looks over to her, and nods his reply.
Chuck, from the other room, is getting impatient. “Come on, guys! Hurry up!”
Diane chuckles. “We’re done!” she calls back.
When Negan and Diane enter the room, Negan sees that there is now a card table set up in the center of the room with four chairs placed around it. Monopoly is set up in the center of the table with all the money divvied out already.
“What’s this?” Negan asks.
Chuck comes over to him with a smile on her face. “We always play Monopoly on Thanksgiving, but first...” she takes him by the hand and leads him closer to the piano. She sits down on the loveseat beside it and prompts Negan to sit with her.
Aaron picks up his acoustic guitars and Diane sits down at the piano.
“I see what this is,” Negan says. “You’re trying to ambush me, but I’m telling you. You really don’t fuckin’ want me singing.”
Chuck leans toward Negan and starts to sing. “Is this the real life?” Diane and Aaron join in on their instruments as Chuck continues. “Is this just fantasy?”
He shakes his head. “Bohemian Rhapsody? That’s fuckin’ low. No one can resist singing this shit.”
Diane and Aaron join in singing now. “Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality.”
Negan shakes his head. “Nope. Not gonna sing.”
“Open your eyes.” Everyone looks at Negan as they sing their parts. “Look up to the skies and see...”
They all stop and stare at Negan, waiting for him to join in. He lets out a huff and takes in a breath.
“I’m just a poor boy,” he starts quietly then Chuck and Diane jump in with the background vocals. “I need no sympathy,” he continues.
“Because I’m easy come, easy go. Little high, little low,” the Langdon trio sings in harmony.
Negan likes hearing them sing. And though he would rather just lean back and listen to them, being part of the song is nice, too.
“Anyway the wind blows doesn’t really matter to me,” he sings more confidently over the harmonies, though his voice is much lower than the song calls for. “To me...”
They go through the whole song, building in intensity until they’re all practically screaming the crescendo. The rest of the song devolves into fits of giggles until the last notes are played.
“Bravo!” Diane calls out as she claps her hands.
“Yes,” Negan starts. “Bravo to all you guys who know what you’re fuckin’ doing.”
Chuck nudges him with her shoulder. “I liked hearing you sing.”
He looks down at her. “You did?”
“Yeah,” she answers with a smile. “You sound good. I like your voice.”
Negan starts to lean in for a kiss, but Diane (intentionally) interrupts the moment. She may be okay with Negan and Chuck’s relationship, but that doesn’t mean she wants to see them all over each other.
“Time for Monopoly!” she calls out as she moves toward the card table.
The others follow her and take their seats at the table. The board is already set up with three pieces already on the Go square, the Scottie dog for Chuck, the thimble for Diane, and the top hat for Aaron.
Chuck picks up the remaining pieces and holds them out for Negan to choose. “You get to pick your piece.”
He instantly grabs the little car. “The race car, for sure.”
Chuck sets the piece on Go with the others and they start to play the game.
Negan rolls the dice and starts his first turn. “I haven’t played this game since I was a fuckin’ kid.”
“You remember the rules, right?” Aaron asks.
Negan lands on Connecticut Avenue. “Shit yeah, I remember. It’s a fuckin’ land grab.” He takes out the $120 to buy it and hands it to Diane, the banker. “And you all are going fuckin’ down.”
As the game progresses, it becomes clear that both Negan and Chuck are shrewd capitalists. They quickly become opponents, their only goal is to take the other one out.
Diane laughs as Negan lands on one of Chuck’s hotels, letting out a curse as he gathers the money he owes. “Did we forget to tell you that Chuck usually wins every year?”
“I’m not out yet,” Negan comments. “I wanna start making deals.”
Diane and Negan become allies as Chuck and Aaron strategize themselves. The game drags on, with both Diane and Aaron going bankrupt, leaving just Negan and Chuck with their respective Monopoly fortunes. It seems they’re fairly evenly matched and the game continues on for a long while with money exchanged between the two with no real accumulation of wealth and neither any closer to bankruptcy. Negan would land on a hotel and give Chuck a bunch of money. Then Chuck would land on a hotel and give it right back.
Diane yawns as it’s getting late. “I think we can consider this game a draw.”
Negan looks to Chuck. “I’m gonna beat you at this stupid game at Christmas.”
Chuck laughs. “We play Risk after Christmas dinner.”
“Even fuckin’ better! I love Risk. I used to have a tournament for my baseball team at the end of the season every year. And guess what?”
Chuck gives him a sassy face. “What?”
He leans in. “I always won.”
Chuck laughs. “Don’t get cocky, mister. I always win my games, too.”
Aaron jumps in. “And that’s with me and Diane teaming up against her.”
Negan smirks at Chuck. “You’re on, little girl. We’ll see come Christmas that there’s a new fuckin’ king in town.”
Everyone says goodbye and Chuck and Negan head home. Since it’s late, they immediately go into Chuck’s room to get ready for bed once they get there.
“Did you have fun with my crazy family?” Chuck asks as she pulls on her purple nightgown featuring a pattern of little kitty cat faces.
Negan strips down to his boxers. “I fuckin’ loved it. It made me realize that I’m fuckin’ sick of this city. The traffic, the noise, all the fuckin’ people... I want a yard again. I want peace and fuckin’ quiet again. So I’m gonna look into buying a house.”
Chuck’s face instantly drops. All she can think about is that Negan would be moving away from her. She wouldn’t be able to just run next door too see him. She’d have jump in her car and drive however long to get to him.
He sees the look on her face and knows what she’s thinking. “Come here.” He pulls her into him and sits on the edge of the bed with her right beside him. “I want you to come with me. Move in with me. We already practically fuckin’ live together.”
“You want me to buy a house with you?”
“Fuck yeah. I’m not going anywhere without you.”
“I-I don’t know if I have the money to buy a house.”
“You don’t have to fuckin’ pay for it, sweetheart. I got the money. And I wanna take fuckin’ care of you. Get you away from all this shit.” He gestures vaguely. “Away from those fuckin’ reporters and anyone else that would fuckin’ bother you in this city.”
She bites her lip to keep from grinning. The prospect of officially living with Negan is very exciting to her. “You don’t think it’s too soon?”
“No,” he answers bluntly. “I’m fuckin’ sure about this.”
She grins up at him. “Okay. Let’s get a house.”
He leans down to kiss her. “Shit, I’m fuckin’ excited.”
The thought of moving forward with Negan in this way has her thoughts racing. “Should we talk about... the other thing?”
“The other thing?”
“Claiming.”
His eyes instinctively flick to her neck then back to her face. “Claiming?”
“I mean, moving in is a big step, right? So... I mean, we’re together. And you’re an alpha and I’m an omega. If we’re together, don’t you want to claim me?”
He thinks for a second. He does want to claim her, but he’s afraid to. He’s not sure if he’s ready to have an actual mate again. “What do you want?” he finally asks.
“I’m-I’m a little scared of being claimed.”
That makes his heart drop a little. “You are?” he asks. Even though he’s scared, too, it hurts a little to hear that she feels the same.
“It’ll change me, right? And I’m still sort of learning how I am as an omega to begin with.”
“That makes sense. You’re not afraid of me , though?”
“No, no. Of course not. I know you’re my... my alpha. I want to be your mate. It’s just...” she trails off.
“Scary?” he completes the sentence.
“Yeah.”
He wraps his arms around her and pulls her into a hug. “We got time, baby girl.” He kisses the top of her head. “There’s no fuckin’ rush.”
She hugs him back. “Thank you for being so patient with me.”
He pushes her back to look at her. “You never have to worry about me pushing you into any-fuckin’-thing. I would never hurt you like that.”
The next morning, Chuck wakes up to an empty bed. That’s not unusual; Negan is an earlier riser than Chuck. She gets out of bed and feels a little twinge of something, but it’s slight so she ignores it and exits her room. Negan, dressed only in his boxers, is on the couch, drinking his coffee and reading the paper.
“Morning,” Chuck greets. She looks him over and sees a light blush on his cheeks. “You feel okay? You look flushed.” She comes forward to place her hand on his forehead.
“I’m fine.” As soon and Chuck gets close to him, he realizes what’s going on. “You’re going into heat.” He sets his coffee down and runs his hands up her legs to her hips. “I’m starting a rut, I guess.”
At his words, Chuck starts to recognize the feeling in her abdomen as such. “Oh god,” she murmurs.
Negan pulls her down into his lap and wraps her in his arms. “It’s gonna be okay,” he whispers.
Chuck is nervous. This will be the first heat that she won’t spend in the hospital. Dr. Bailey had told her that with Negan there, her heat won’t get too bad and won’t be dangerous. Still, she’s worried.
Negan pushes some of Chuck’s hair back and cradles her face. “I’m gonna take care of you.”
Chuck nods. She does trust him, but she’s still anxious.
“Let’s get some food in us before were too far gone to care about that shit.”
Negan makes them breakfast then sets out to ready Chuck’s room. He leaves a case of bottled water by the door to keep them hydrated and brings out some extra towels in case things get messy. He also sets out the condoms on the nightstand for easy access, considering they are going to be using a lot of them, probably.
While he’s doing that, Chuck leaves a text for her mother telling her that she’s going into heat and probably won’t be texting back for a couple days. She also gives Dr. Bailey a quick call with the development, as well.
After getting one of the condoms ready, they both cuddle up on Chuck’s bed to rest before their heat/rut sinks in too much. After a few minutes, Negan starts to instinctively run his hand over her, covering her in his scent as his rut starts to wrestle more control over his rational mind.
Chuck isn’t doing much better. Her omega side is calling out for her to get this all started. As her temperature starts to rise, she pulls away from Negan and strips off her nightgown, leaving her naked.
The sight is too much for Negan and he practically pounces on her, his lips crashing into hers in a fervent kiss. She returns it with enthusiasm as she snakes her fingers through his hair to pull him even further into her.
His hands rove over her body, squeezing her curves and leaving his scent on her skin. It doesn’t take long before his impatience starts to grow. He pulls back from Chuck to remove his boxers, freeing his already hard cock.
When Negan moves away, Chuck’s omega side takes over and her body turns onto its stomach with her knees tucked underneath her. The classic submissive pose is too much for Negan’s alpha side to handle and he is spurred into action.
He crawls over Chuck’s back and swiftly enters her, starting up a brutal pace. He had never taken Chuck like this before, but he’s not exactly in his right mind. Neither is Chuck, though, and Negan’s movements are just what she needs to sate her heat.
“Fuck, omega,” Negan growls into Chuck’s ear. “I’m gonna knot you.”
“Yes,” she moans.
As they both get closer to their ends, Chuck instinctively tilts her head to the side, exposing her mating spot. The action has Negan’s alpha side completely overriding his rational brain and he places his mouth to her neck.
“Fuck, you smell so good,” he groans as his knot swells.
“Alpha,” she moans and bucks her hips back into him.
“I’m gonna knot you.”
“Yes,” she breathes.
He hovers his mouth over her neck as his knot pops inside her and triggers her release. As he cums, somewhere deep in his mind, there’s a voice telling him Don’t do it! She told you she wasn’t fuckin’ ready!
But his alpha side is too strong. Especially when he sees the fading scar of Eldritch’s bite on her neck way too close for comfort. He sinks his teeth into her mating spot with a growl as he holds her tightly against him, not much caring for the consequences of his actions. Yet.

James Roday on Reddit discussing Treehouse
Reddit with JAMES RODAY
I’m James Roday from Psych and A Million Little Things. I also directed two horror movies for Blumhouse’s Into the Dark Horror Anthology Series on Hulu. AMA!
JAMES RODAY: Roday here. I think. I'm typing things in a box so that seems encouraging.
JAMES RODAY: I think I'm an hour early. That's the first time in my adult life this has ever happened. I'll pop back by a little later. And I'll be READY.
JAMES RODAY: Yo! How about I knock out these early bird questions like a baller.
QUESTION (CharlotteBeer): Given your latest is part of a seasonal series, when did you start work on the script -- and how long did it take you? How did y'all settle on the Ides of March?)
JAMES RODAY: CharlotteBeer -- it all came together very quickly because of my schedule on AMLT. Got the thumbs up in April and we were shooting in early June. It was an idea I had been kicking around for years but current climate and conversation definitely opened a window and my collaborators and I jumped through it.
CharlotteBeer -- Oh, and we settled on International Women's Day. Hulu made it Ides of March.
ASSHOLE QUESTION (yanderebeats): So uh what the fuck was that scene with them putting the snake on his arm? Like what was the direction given to mcpoyle exactly, did you specifically tell him to do the worst job possible or what
JAMES RODAY: Yandererbeats -- 1. Well, the dude is tripping on psychotropes so he's seeing all kinds of shit and the ladies are using that to their advantage. 2. No, I think Jimmi Simpson is a genius and generally requires little direction from me 3 (bonus) You sure this is what you want to be doing with your time?
QUESTION (ConicalSun): What advice would you give to someone that wants to pursue work in film? Directing in particular.
JAMES RODAY: ConicalSun -- Make something. Get familiar with a camera and how to shoot. If you can afford to take a filmmaking class that provides instruction and equipment, sometimes that helps speed the plow. But I'm guessing you know what you like and don't like about movies and it's easier than ever to get out there and make your own content so give it a whirl.
QUESTION (psych-o5life): Out of every character you have ever played, which one are you most like?
JAMES RODAY: psych0-5life -- Probably the dude I'm playing now on AMLT.
QUESTION (seppukuu): What is your writing process like? Do you live out the stories in your head or, since you usually have a writing partner, do you prefer a more systematic approach that involves discussions and outlines?
JAMES RODAY: Seppukuu -- Todd and I have been writing together for over 20 years now. We have such a great shorthand that we can accomplish a lot quickly without spending much time in a room together. Vodka helps. We talk story, specific scenes and generally write the stuff we see best in our heads, respectively. Once we have a very rough draft, everything becomes much easier and the streamlining and polishing begins. That's generally when character voices really start to take shape as well.
seppukuu: In vodka veritas!
QUESTION (Nikesneaker): Hi James!
Do you have a favorite director/actor/actress that you look up to as a “hero”?
P.S. supa excited for Psych: The Movie 2
JAMES RODAY: Nikespeaker -- I grew up an enormous fan of Val Kilmer as an actor, Rick Baker and a SPX Make Up Artist and Stanley Kubrick as a director. I'd add Bergman, Wes Craven, John Landis and Quentin Tarantino to the list of directors I've really appreciated over the years and Lynne Ramsay is an absolute force of nature. I also CANNOT WAIT to see what Julia Decournau does next after RAW...
QUESTION (mooviescribe): If you were to direct another horror feature (not for Dark Horror), what type of script catches your eye?
JAMES RODAY: mooviescribe -- I will def be directing more horror. I love the genre and believe there are plenty more good stories to be told. As for scripts -- anything that moves me catches my eye. Being scared is fun but if it makes you think and feel -- that's the real fire starter
JAMES RODAY: I just realized I can reply to questions by hitting reply. This is GOOD SHIT.
QUESTION (Wizardmer): I am such a huge fan of Psych, and some of my favorite episodes were the fun homages to classic horror movies, here's lassie was my personal favorite. Was there any other horror movies you wanted to do as an episode?
How did the costume design come to life for treehouse? I loved those awesome outfits, super dope
JAMES RODAY: They let me check most all the remaining horror boxes in A Nightmare on State Street. It's just a big sloppy buffet but I loved every minute of it. Costume and mask design were the work of the incredibly talented Diane Crooke. She was one of a whole team of lady designers that elevated every element of Treehouse and I am eternally grateful.
QUESTION (UHeardAboutPluto): Have you heard about Pluto?
JAMES RODAY: That's messed up, right?
UHeardAboutPluto: James, you have made me the happiest I’ve been in a long time. Pysch is my favorite show ever, and that response from you was perfect. Thank you for being awesome!
QUESTION (AsymptoticGames): I just want to point out that I love when co-stars of some of my favorite shows hang out outside of the show. On that note, how was Dule Hill's wedding?
JAMES RODAY: Beautiful.
QUESTION (psych-o5life): Are you helping with production on Psych the Movie 2?
JAMES RODAY: Co-wrote the adventure and we're prepping it now. Steve will be directing and it's gonna be sweet.
QUESTION (bakuryu69): Hey big fan James - what drew you to directing horror. Will you be doing more work in the genre (possibly pineapple related)?
JAMES RODAY: I've been a fan of horror since I was old enough to know what movies were. Somehow convinced my mother that I loved being scared and wanted to learn how all the cool special fx and make up worked. She went for it.
QUESTION (Maxzhouse): Hey man, I really dig your work. I was wondering if you’re into writing and if so what your process looks like? Thanks mate!
JAMES RODAY: It generally looks like one inspired hour of writing a day and 23 hours of procrastination and thinking I should never write again.
Maxzhouse: Ah a man after my own heart! Thanks for answering brother, Hope the best for you and yours. Peace, love & Mercy
QUESTION (seppukuu): You said before that your high school production of Elephant Man was the most challenging acting gig you've ever done. Is this still true, and would you like to do it again now that you have considerably more experience under your belt? What would be another (type of) character you'd find most challenging/exciting to play?
JAMES RODAY: I'm too old to dip back into John Merrick's skin but man that is a tough play to pull off. Moving forward, I think characters that are well written with a real point of view (good or bad) are the ones that we all want to play as actors.
QUESTION (TheReelPliskin): Hey James. I just wanted to say you're awesome! I've been watching everything you're in or a part of ever since I saw a little movie called Rolling Kansas. Can't wait for the new Psych movie and I fell I'll hafta get Hulu now so I can see your new movies. Ok. Enough of that. Now for the question. Outside of Psych and Little Things, what is one of your personal favorite movie or show you've been a part of? P.S. . . SUCK IIIIIIT!!!
JAMES RODAY: It's gotta be Treehouse. And a tiny film I was lucky enough to be a part of a few years back called Pushing Dead directed by Tom Brown. Worth checking out. Important subject matter.
QUESTION (deadpool902): Hey James!
Quick two-part question:
What aspect of anthology storytelling entices you the most?
Were there any horror stories or films that you turned to for inspiration when directing for Into the Dark, and if so what were they?
Thanks for stopping by and I can't wait for your return to Santa Barbara!
JAMES RODAY:
The fact that, in this case, 12 different filmmakers got to come in and do anything they wanted without worrying about stepping on toes or syncing up with any of the other films
Raw, Thelma, Goodnight Mommy -- 70s horror.
QUESTION (tedlogan43): Mr. Roday - Gravy was fantastic, A Million Little Things blows my mind, and Psych is a part of who I am at my core. I wanted to ask what it is like to get to continue working with so many great professionals like Dule Hill, Michael Weston and Jimmi Simpson. Do you feel like your continued projects with them are improved by your on-going relationships with them? Thanks for the profound impact your roles have had on my life!
JAMES RODAY: I am tremendously lucky to have so many insanely talented besties. I am no dummy. I surround myself with ladies and gents that make me look way better than I deserve and will continue to do so as long as they'll let me.
QUESTION (fangirl005): What is the best thing about working on AMLT?
JAMES RODAY: The cast. And knowing that we're dealing with issues that affect so many people every day. It feels good to be a part of those conversations in even the smallest of ways.
QUESTION (jmsturm): Hi Mr Roday, big fan.
Who would win if Shawn went head to head with the Mentalist?
JAMES RODAY: Well he'd def be the comic relief.
QUESTION (TheWalkingGamefreak): Good evening James, just want to say hi
JAMES RODAY: sup
QUESTION (seppukuu): Marvel called and wants to give you half a billion dollars to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Do you accept, and would you still try and shoot it in 3 weeks on a 200 dollar budget instead?
JAMES RODAY: hahaha. that's a great answer and the honest to God answer is that I'd only do it if I thought I could bring something unique or unexpected to the fanbase. Otherwise there are plenty of ladies and gents for the job.
QUESTION (FusionCinemaProd): What would you say is the most creative horror film of the last decade?
JAMES RODAY: Creative? That's pretty subjective. I'd say last years reboot of Suspiria was a pretty big creative swing that mostly succeeded IMHO. And I stand by RAW as one of the best films of the last decade, period.
FusionCinemaProd: Raw is a fantastic film. I’ll have to check Suspiria out on blu ray when it comes out here in the UK.
QUESTION (modsrfagbags): What was your favorite “Gus don’t be...” line from Psych? My favorites gotta be either “eleven and a half pound Black Forest ham” or “the 100th luftballoon”
JAMES RODAY: I am a sucker for a luft balloon
modsrfagbags: Oh shit thanks for responding
QUESTION (imdannyg): Have to admit, the torture scenes with Peter Rake (Jimmi Simpson) gave me flashbacks to your work in Blood Drive. Is there any connection there at all and/or did it prepare you in anyway for this scene in Treehouse?
JAMES RODAY: Welcome Daniel. You know I hadn't thought about it until just now. The two projects are so tonally different but I'll say this -- shooting scenes designed around a character that cannot move is challenging to say the least. Blood Drive probably did serve as a dry run for me without even realizing it.
QUESTION (seppukuu): Have you ever done special effects make-up on another person? If not, would you like to try or are you happy watching the professionals do it for you?
JAMES RODAY: I used to do it quite a bit as a kid. There's a reason I didn't end up being the next Rick Baker.
QUESTION (HippoMafia42): Hey James, huge psych fan here, I know psych the movie 2 will start production sometime this month, but when will that be? Hopefully within the week?:)
JAMES RODAY: Soon. We need a little time to find and build things.
QUESTION (miatosc): What was your favorite scene to shoot this season on a million little things?
JAMES RODAY: There were so many. My scenes with Colin the dog in the "day before" episode were especially sweet.
miatosc: haha! I was guessing any scene with Colin since he’s such a sweet dog.
QUESTION (thepineapplesplat): James! Man glad to hear your free-spirit self. Huge fan of Psych and no matter how much I’ve watched the episodes over and over it never ceases to make me smile. You were apart of a master piece and taught me to always stay true to the inner child in me. Absolute master piece!
Serious question, do you see yourself doing any meet and greets with fans in Canada? Perhaps in Vancouver where Psych was shot?
JAMES RODAY: thanks! So glad it resonated with you. As for meeting fans, I'm always happy to say hi -- I struggle with the format of conventions because I wish fans didn't have to spend their money. They already do so much by just watching and keeping shows on the air....
thepineapplesplat: Yeah definitely makes sense. Meeting you and Dule Hill is definitely on my bucket list. I’m not a huge on meeting celebrities (I think of them as regular people) but psych stars will definitely hold a place in my childhood/adolescence memories. Thanks for bringing it to life! Sorry if I seem like I’m fan girl-ing out haha!
QUESTION (seppukuu): Will we ever see a new play written (and directed) by you?
JAMES RODAY: someday.
QUESTION (psych-o5life): What was your favorite episode of Psych to film?
JAMES RODAY: Probably Dual Spires because it was the closest I'll ever get to being in Twin Peaks.
QUESTION (NateLeport): What was your favorite episode of psych to work on? What was your favorite running gag like the pineapple, I’ve heard it both ways, come on son, I’m Shawn spencer and this is my partner ____, etc.
JAMES RODAY: I became partial to singing suck it towards the end
QUESTION (leeselislisuh): What was your biggest recurring nightmare as a kid? Mine happened a lot when my mom was pregnant with my little sister, and I kept dreaming she'd be born with a full set of very pointy teeth. Horrifying. Huge fan and excited to see more of your work!!
JAMES RODAY: What a question. And what a nightmare. I used to dream that I was a werewolf but I thought that was awesome and didn't want to wakeup
QUESTION (bsischo): When does the next Psych movie come out? I loved that series and I really enjoyed the last movie.
JAMES RODAY: Good question and not sure of the answer. If I had to guess I'd say around the holidays again
bsischo: Really looking forward to it!!!
QUESTION (imdannyg): How did the music choices for Treehouse play out? Priscilla Ahn's Under the Covers is the bomb!
JAMES RODAY: All those needle drops are in the script. I tend to write very specifically to music and, knowing we'd have little to know music budget, I chose songs we had shot at getting. We got all of them. Priscilla, per usual, stepped up and wrote something incredible just for the movie. Another ridiculously talented dear friend who I will employ forever and ever as long as she says yes.
QUESTION (TheWriteOwl): James, thank you so much for doing an AMA and letting us all fan-girl our hearts out. I think it's rare to see someone who moves as smoothly as you do from being a comedic genius in a show like Psych and a thrill master in movies like Treehouse.
What attracted you to these two, disparate genres, and can you speak a little bit about why you think you've seen so much success in both?
JAMES RODAY: Better to be lucky than good and I've been very lucky. I have dedicated myself to being as good as humanly possible to try and make sense of how blessed I've been. Growing up, horror and comedy were the genres I gravitated to the most so they've been in my bones for a very long time. I still remember seeing An American Werewolf in London in the theaters as a six year old. That just about sums me up.
TheWriteOwl: Your dedication and your inherent love for what you do really shows up in your work. As a fan, it's awesome to see - thank you!
QUESTION (eppukuu): Film or digital?
JAMES RODAY: Film. But I do understand the revolution. We shot the first three seasons of Psych on film and Tuesday the 17th was shot on Super 16 which is one of my very favorite formats. There's something truly special about knowing you only have so much film to shoot on and so many takes to get it -- really brings a crew and cast together. And it just looks so good. Though technology has definitely curbed that with HD.
QUESTION (angelusgirl): I started watching Psych after I watched the awesome episode Dual Spires. What was your favorite Twin Peaks Easter egg in the episode or memory of filming it?
JAMES RODAY: The last scene in the diner was a blast because it was a basket of easter eggs. And I'll never forget watching the cast of my favorite show reunite in real time at the Sutton Place bar. Some of them hadn't seen each other in 25 years.
angelusgirl: And a follow up if I may, what did you think of the showtime season?
JAMES RODAY: Well. I loved it because it felt like the deepest recesses of David Lynch's mind were turned loose and who knows if or when we'll get to experience that again. That said, I understand why it wasn't for everyone and if you came in expecting an evolution of the original series....well, you probably didn't get what you were hoping for.
QUESTION (cabose7): How is Timothy Omundson doing?
JAMES RODAY: He's such a badass and he's doing great. He has exceeded expectations at every turn and I cannot wait to bring Lassie back home.
QUESTION (]miatosc): what’s it like working with Allison Miller? She seems super funny and passionate about her work.
JAMES RODAY: Miller is a truly gifted performer. I lucked out getting her as a scene partner. She pushes me, carries me and makes me better. No question.
QUESTION (imdannyg): Did you write Agnes with Nancy Charles in mind? She (and all the cast) is incredible!
JAMES RODAY: We did not but boy did she come into her audition and own that role. When she left we all looked at each other and were like "well, that's that."
QUESTION (seppukuu): You survived the (non-zombie related) apocalypse. The planet is a wasteland. What do you miss most?
JAMES RODAY: Dogs and pals.
QUESTION (mndrlyn): Hi James! Two questions. 1. Does the beard stay for the new Psych movie? 2. What do you do in your off time that makes you happy?
JAMES RODAY: You'll just have to wait and....oh who are we kidding, Shawn doesn't have a beard. I generally spend as much time in NYC as I can and relax by thinking about the next juicy thing I can make. And vodka and sports.
QUESTION (psych-o5life): Do you know what's gonna happen in AMLT season 2?
JAMES RODAY: I may know a thing or two -- which still leaves close to a million
JAMES RODAY: You awesome ladies and gents I'm gonna wrap this up in the next five minutes. We've actually gone over an hour and I don't want to break Reddit.
QUESTION (imdannyg): What are the most difficult constraints to overcome with a limited budget such as this? Is it just time, is it human resources, is it gadget/technology oriented issues? What extra thing would help the most with a limited budget like Treehouse?
JAMES RODAY: All of the above. And I would always choose time over money.
QUESTION (SydneyHollow): Shawn was a big hero of mine for a long time. Then I realized over time that Shawn is a huge dick. Nevertheless, your ability to breathe such life into his character is nothing short of amazing. All the actors on Psych, really, are truly gifted!
Did you ever have doubts about how successful Psych would be?
JAMES RODAY: Hahaha! I love this. And believe me the longer the show ran, the more challenging it became to keep a character like Shawn digestible. It's like watching Puck of Peter Pan for muuuuch longer than a movie or a play. But yes, that was a wonderful group of actors and humans and we are family. Lightning in a bottle to be sure. The success of Psych never ceases to amaze me. Truly. And that's all because of the fans. 100 percent.
QUESTION (JessicaSimbro): In writing a female role for one of your films, what personality traits does an attractive woman have in your mind? And what then makes that same woman gaspingly frightening?
JAMES RODAY: I believe attractiveness lives primarily on the inside. I'd say the same for what makes anyone frightening.
QUESTION (woahbells): From interviews you seem introverted and introspective but not uncomfortable being questioned about both work and personal topics. Assuming I'm correct and that you are an introvert, how do you reconcile that aspect of your personality with fame?
Also, I noticed the subtle pineapples on Peter's daughter's shirt at the end. Was that intentionally done?
JAMES RODAY: Not my choice but I also didn't veto it so...
QUESTION (firmhair): Come back to White Rock. Our Pier is gone :(
JAMES RODAY: Deal. And with that, thank you all for joining me. It's always a pleasure to connect with you all. If you haven't checked out Treehouse on Hulu, give it a spin. I am enormously proud of the work from all involved and especially grateful for the opportunity to work with and learn from so many talented and insightful women. Be kind to yourselves and others and get ready for a million little spoonfuls of delicious flavor in the future....

Shows that made my 2017 better
So last year I made a list of shows that made my year better. Now I will say that 2016 was a FAR WORSE year than 2017 was for me. In 2016 I had academic pressure than was awful and I started a new school and all my friends ended up in different classes than me together, so that was fun. But then came 2017 and was all around just AWSOME and along with that awesome-ness came some amazing shows. Last year I just made a bullet list, but I thought that this year I should make some mini reviews, so here I go:
Fist off, my 2017 was dominated by animated shows/anime, so my eyes have really been opened to this amazing artform this year. HERE I GO:
My hero Academia/Boku no hero Academia
Tumblr media
What an awesome show. I watched this in November/December and I love the premise, characters and plot. It has really breathed some life into the superhero genre and is an all-together fun look at what it would be like if everyone in the world had different super-powers. It has stunning animation and the manga is also super-cool and goes in a great direction. Both the anime and manga is super-recommended.
Favorite character(s): I love Todoroki, he is awesome (and I’m a slut for angsty backstory so…). Deku is great. Actually, can I just write every character here? except Mineta, fuck Mineta!
Greatest qualities about the show: The character dynamics! The way the characters interact with each other is immaculate and they just fit together great. I also really like how each arc is structured and paced.
Negatives: The girls are sometimes a little bit passive for my liking, and if there was an arc with Mineta dying I would not be mad.
Bojack Horseman
Tumblr media
I binged this show and fell in love. What might just appear as just a wacky adult cartoon at first glance (and first couple of episodes) is actually a deep depiction of many modern-day topics and problematics such as depression, alcoholism, drug-use, sexuality, sex work, feminism, politics and of course life in Hollywoo(d). The human-like animals might be jarring at first, but it uses the character designs to its advantage with hilarious animal-puns and situations alongside making the show more lighthearted despite the shows heavy subject-matter.
The show is about the horse Bojack who was a famous sitcom star in the `90s and his slump of a life post sitcom star life and his journey back to stardom. The blend between humor and chilling, haunting realism is amazing to watch unfold alongside clever and real character development that is beautiful to watch. Ironically the most aesthetically absurd looking show on this list has the most realistic story. Great social commentary disguised as a comedy.
Favorite character(s): Everyone is flawed in Bojack Horseman, but the most interesting characters in this show for me are Bojack and Diane. So, I would say Diane is my favorite to observe.
Greatest qualities about the show: The way it discusses social issues. Its stunning and thought-provoking.
Negatives: It’s a little bit slow and odd in the beginning and some might find it a little too sad.
Rick and Morty
Tumblr media
I discovered this show around Easter time and WOW! No show like any other on this list handles surrealism and absurdist comedy, parody and satire quite like Rick and Morty. The show about the scientist Rick and his grandson (with his grand-daughter Summer joining inn somtimes) Morty going on wacky space adventures. Ricks dick-ish nature contrasts Morty’s wide-eyed curiosity turned cynicism perfectly. The show has fun world building, alongside a great blend between one-off adventures and overarching plot. Visually the show is both stunning and disgusting making it an interesting aesthetic journey for the viewer. Funny, crazy and surprisingly deep at times. And btw watching Rick and Morty does not make you smarter nor require you to be a super-intellectual.
Favorite character(s): Morty is always delightful.
Greatest qualities about the show: Its really funny and has really great world building/concepts within the show.
Negatives: It sometimes boards on a little to gross and has some growing pain in the start.
This is kind of a shout-out to a second season of show from last year’s list so:
Stranger Things 2
Tumblr media
Such a good “sequel”. I enjoyed every moment of the show (even the controversial Chicago episode). The characters developed, the plot developed, the new characters were amazing and tone and aesthetic from the first season was carefully preserved and used immaculately. The 80`s reference game was just as strong. For anyone who has lived under a rock the last year and a half the show (first season at least) is about the mysterious disappearance of middle-schooler Will Beyers. The year is 1983, location Hawkings, Indiana.
Favorite character(s): Steve Harrington deserves the world in season 2. I also really like Mike.
Greatest qualities about the show: Addicting story. SO BEAUTIFULLY SHOT! Amazing acting from everyone.
Negatives: Ok, I lied the Chicago episodes stagnated the plot to some extent. I just don’t hate the episode as much as everyone else.
And last but CERTANTLY not least:
Ok so I’m cheating on this one I watched this show in January but I watched the first episode in December so I’m including it and also I’m so in love and I wanted to include it here rather than next year’s list because I want it fresh in my mind.
 Fullmetal Alchemist/Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Tumblr media
So, this entry is technically 2 shows. One was created in 2003 based on a manga by the same name but diverges from the manga around the half-way point because it ran out of material to adapt and goes in its own direction. The other is from 2009 and is a straight adaption of the manga. This creates 2 shows with the same central characters, plot and starting points that diverges GREATLY from each other and they are both amazing!
The plot goes like this; In a world where alchemy developed, you cannot create something with alchemy without having the materials that equals to what you want to make. Example: if you want to create a radio you need all the materials that make up that radio to create it. This is known as equivalent exchange and it cannot be broken.
When the young brothers Edward and Alfonse Elric’s mother dies they try bring her back using alchemy. In the process Edward loses and arm and a leg while Alfonse loses his entire body and is only left with his soul which is now bonded to suit of armor. The brothers must seek out a way to find a way to get their bodies back.
IT IS AMAZING! Both versions are amazing, but I slightly prefer the 2009 version also known as Brotherhood. It explores dark and philosophical themes and questions such as mass genocide, the life of the military, PTSD, fascism, war, politics, what is god/playing god, what is the price of a soul is, loss and most importantly daddy-issues.
There is no end to how much this series deserves praise (mostly referring to Brotherhood here). From the way its gorgeously animated, to the pacing, the way it handles it subject matter and issues and has relatable characters. The character development is perfect, and the plot never meanders or goes into dead ends and concludes beautifully. Even the attention to details is impressive with examples such as the way it shows the characters physically aging and demonstrating where in timeline the scene takes place with subtle hair changes. Fullmetal Alchemist (brotherhood) is like watching someone pouring all the puzzle-pieces out on the table and watching someone cleverly and creatively putting them together, thus creating a magnificent art-piece in the in the process. I would also like to mention one of the most amazing aspects of both versions being the way female characters actions, traits, part in the plot, abilities and dialogue are some of the best female writing I have ever seen. Ironically enough in a work marked towards teenage boys.
Favorite character(s): Fullmetal Alchemist is the kind of show that I like to call having “parks and rec”-syndrome, where genually love everyone, however If I have to pick I might say Winry. I absolutly lover her and I think she is a great role model, hillarious and greatly written.
Greatest qualities about the show: The way it deals with its subject-matter. And also everything else about the show, but especially that.
Negatives: Nothing about the show, just a little girl and her dog that im a little tierd being meme-ed to death on reddit but also kinda laugh so im a little bit conflicted, but there is no negatives that I can think of.
That was it, bye-bye 2017, I watched some fine televison in your year, and I hope to find some just as good in 2018.

I realized that there really isn't ANYWHERE on my blog that explains my muse's background in TWD universe. I am a singleverse blog, which makes things seem complicated but it isn't! I hate to sound like a broken record since it's all over my blog but this muse is a time/space/parallel universe traveler based in the Doctor Who fandom but TWD AND GOT traveled. That means he enters parallel worlds were things are similar but different.
PEOPLE IN TWD UNIVERSE WOULD KNOW HIM AS DIAN. It’s his middle name and nickname. He cannot go by his first name there because of Daryl. Also, he has shorter hair than Daryl, fights for the kindom so often times wears kingdom gear, and has a son. Those are the biggest ways to tell him apart.
Sooooo, this is the background of my muse when he enters the universe where it's the apocalypse. This is a backstory formed from several threads from several different people since the start of my blog but I am leaving actual blog names out because I do play with doubles. Also, this doesn't automatically mean if we rp that this has to be the case. If you would rather our muses be meeting for the first time it can always be the case where he's in ANOTHER universe that's parallel to this backstory but also the world has still gone to shit because lmfaooo apparently he keeps going there despite it being shit.
Also, I should state that while he is in the mix of canon events his presence is complementary to canon, not altering it. It's actually in his species nature to remain on the sidelines of things, not interfering too much in other worlds/planets/periods of time.
WE CAN BASE THREADS AT ANY POINTS OF THIS TIMELINE.
First time entering the universe
When he first entered the universe he was attacked by a horde of walkers. Unlike Daryl, he had absolutely no knowledge or skill of how to fight them. He also had his then newborn son strapped to his back so he was pretty much up shit's creek. Luckily, he wasn't too far from a savior outpost and a woman ended up saving him. This was after Daryl was taken by Negan so she did think he was the Daryl everyone knows. She brought him to the sanctuary with that belief but quickly realized Daryl was still in his cell.
At the sanctuary/escape attempt
It was much easier to hide him then it was to try to get him out again considering who he looked like. Sadly, the whole hiding him thing didn't last very long at all. He was found out about but escaped. He spent quite a bit of time on the run, meeting people before being captured by a group of saviors and sent right back. He became a worker that worked for points and kept his head low there. His main objective was to get enough points to feed his son until he could get the chance to get the fuck out of there again. He remained there even up to the point where Eugene entered the scene and did befriend him.
Meeting Rick
He met Rick by pure accident. He was solely based inside the Sanctuary so beyond stories about him(which were negative) he didn't really know much about him or his group at all. When he was told the truth about everything that happened he offered to try to get some of the workers on Rick's side. But of course, Negan and others started to get suspicious of him. He didn't finally escape again until he came to Rick's aid and killed several saviors, making his only option to run because boy done fucked up lmfaooo.
Season 8 events
After killing several saviors he took refuge in the kingdom and ended up calling it home. He joined the kingdom fighters going to the sanctuary. During the attack on the sanctuary, he broke ranks and went off on his own to try to see if he could help some workers at the sanctuary. After the fight, he meets up with rick briefly just after Daryl shot the guy that told them about the guns at the outpost. He then started to make his way to find where the kingdom went. He found everyone dead. Distraught and feeling guilty for not being there to help, he doubled back to find Rick and Daryl. He ended up at Alexandria and found out about Daryl's plan. Daryl and this muse end up in a fistfight over it. This muse takes off in anger to head back to the kingdom with his son.
On his trek back he is briefly caught by the saviors heading to the kingdom to take over it. He managed to escape but was shot in the shoulder. The bullet didn't exit his body so his son wasn't harmed. He, however, fractured his shoulder blade when the bullet impacted it. He met up with Carol after escaping and she mended his wound the best she could. He's currently not able to fight due to said injury. He went to the hilltop to heal and wait until he can help with the fight once more.
