✌🏻✨ ~ 2023 wrap-up ~ ✨✌🏻
another year gone, another post no one asked for djkghdf
I normally don't talk about personal stuff on here but like in the previous year I wanted do a little recap and give shoutouts to some lovely people 🧡
Tumblr media
It hasn't been an easy year for me, I started a new job which has been stressful and annihilated my work-life balance which resulted in me being sick a lot & just being stressed for most of the year lol. I barely found time to maintain this blog which may not seem like it on the outside since I somehow managed to frequently post but it's been difficult. I know I don't have to be online 24/7 but the fear of slipping into irrelevancy due to lack of content remains. I didn't have much time to watch bls & asian shows in general which I still consider my safe space and escapism so I'm resentful that I didn't get to fully take in and enjoy the things I'm passionate about and make content about them like I did in the previous years. That being said thank god for all the weekend shows that I did manage to watch and fully focus on like Only Friends and now Cooking Crush and Cherry Magic. Those have been life savers lol and also thank god for all the talented creators who gave us tons of content; I will mention some of them below.
But aside from my personal schedule and despite not watching a lot of stuff, I still tried to keep an eye on what's going on in the BL world for my monthly breakdowns, which I still enjoy making and I will likely continue them in 2024. I also came to the conclusion that 2023 ended up being another rendition of quantity > quality in the BL-verse so not much has changed lol - not that I expected it to. We got a wild and extended mix of different genres and subgenres this year which was nice to see. We saw companies & actors experimenting a lot (with varying results), we got new ships, new fandoms and new enemies, as well as a variety of comebacks and retirements. My watchlist this year was limited to Thai BLs and my blog mostly consisted of gmmtv related content and like I said, if I had had more time I probably would have explored more different shows - but I eventually resorted to what's familiar. I guess I needed an anchor in midst of all my personal chaos lol.
But despite my short list, there were a few gems that I enjoyed. The big ones like Only Friends, Moonlight Chicken, Be My Favorite, etc., and the small, less popular ones like Be Mine Superstar, Mission Fan Possible and a few more. I enjoyed talking to friends & making content about them in the limited timeframes I had. My opinions mostly matched those of the general public but unfortunately there were a few disappointments that were bathing in a success that I could not wrap my head around - Dangerous Romance and A Boss and a Babe being at the top of that list, followed by La Pluie and also a few of the lakorns I watched. But anyway.
Anyone who knows me knows my blog has been 83% FirstKhao this year lmao, they're my favorite people in this industry and watching them act, interact & making content about them has been one of my highlights. I'm excited to see what 2024 brings for them and even if it's not a series, I'm looking forward to seeing what else they will be up to 🥺 🐈‍⬛ 🐈
I'm going into 2024 with mixed feelings but above all I hope I will get the chance to expand my watchlist a little. I will post a personal top10 of the shows I watched this year shortly; until then I want to talk a bit about some lovely people this year - I’m not good with words lmao but thank you for being you and making this hellsite a better place 🥹 lol.
@leonpob - bestie!!! 🧡 our BL opinions have drifted apart this year lmao but who's to say friendships are solely based on mutual opinions. You're the best, stay the way you are and here's to another year of sharing thoughts and hopefully finding more shows to watch together (no matter if trash or not lol) 😉😘  @mayalunas - ahhhh I loved talking to you sooo so much this year, we agree on so many things that I'm convinced we share the same BL braincells lmao. You're one of my favorite people on this website, thank you for being such a good listener and a positive & supportive person to talk to 🥺 I hope you have the best 2024!!! ily!!! 🧡 @khunvegas - GURL idk where you went this year or if you still exist sdjkds but just know I haven't forgotten about you and I miss our talks 🥺 come back pls thank. @my-wandering-rabbit - I love our random out-of-context talks once a month lmao, I appreciate you and I hope we will continue our ritual of me watching shows and you asking me questions without watching them kjsdhg @bl-recs-and-reviews - Bestie!!! I love our catch-ups on Discord, you were one of the first people I ever talked to like 4 years ago? crazy. look at us. I still love you, you're the sweetest and I love talking to you 🧡🥺 @dreamedofyou - ahh I absolutely love your blog!!! I noticed you a lot in my notifications this year so I wanted to say thank you so much for interacting with my unhinged content (mostly FK related lmao) - We haven't talked a ton but I think of you as a very nice person and I hope we can talk more next year 🥹🫶🏻
and then of course some more shoutouts go out to all the wonderful and talented creators out there; I will never be able to tag all of you so sorry in advance but here are a few that I appreciate, some of which have also mentioned me in their wrap-up posts so thank you for that!!!
@taeminie @seatawinan @loveisactivated @forcebook @jimmysea @guzhu-furen @daymork @itsallaboutbl @seatawinans @blneobin @blmpfff @wanderlust-in-my-soul @pranpat @milkpansa @raypakorn @ahxu-laowen @forcebookish @forcebookcorner @morkofday @chinzillas @seajimmy @dimpledpran @i-got-the-feels @bengiyo @benkaaoi @25shadesoffebruary @moonkhao @smittenskitten @respectthepetty @earthfluuke @pharawee @khaotunq @khaotunqs @pranink @gabrielokun @piningintrovert @zhaozi @markpakin @firstkanaphans @firstforkhao @khaotungsfirst @wen-kexing-apologist @firstkpp @firstmix @bunnakit @khaothanawat @alienwlw @ffirstkhao (I can't tag the last 4 for some reason..)
have the best 2024!!!

I am here actually to appreciate your post. I saw a blogger’s post saying The sign would have been ‘successful’ had it got filled with fantasy and romance and limit action to 10%. I wondered why that person, who says BL is all about romance, watched a show whose genre is action. Then I saw your post about people watching many shows to stay in fandom and I agree. Also you are right about dramas with a complex story receiving heavy criticism. Everything (even lack of proper plot or conflict) is exempted in a romance drama. No wonder most BLs are confined to ‘2 boys and their jealous & crying moments, routine conflicts enhanced by Escola or leads explaining how important Nikon printer is for their relationship’
Well damn hit me in the feels with this appreciation I'ma get all shy and shit.
I always wonder if by "successful" people mean in terms of critical acclaim, story telling, or monetarily. When it comes to Thai shows - and some please correct me if I'm wrong - it's difficult to tell how "successful" they are terms of audience reach/monetarily because there's no easily verifiable information. Like, there's Youtube numbers sure, but The Sign as an example, aired on Channel 3 what were it's ratings total on that channel? Idk, does anyone know that? Sincerely asking lol
Personally the way I like to judge a piece of media is what I call the Roger Ebert method; he often judged films based not solely on whether they were "good" or "bad but by how successfully they accomplished their goals.
If you read his review of Space Jam while it's clear Ebert doesn't think the movie is high art, "You can watch the movie on the sports and cartoon levels, and also appreciate the corporate strategy that's involved. [...] It is difficult for an actor to work in movies that combine live action with animation, because much of the time he cannot see the other characters in a scene with him. But Jordan has a natural ease and humor, an unforced charisma, that makes a good fit with the cartoon universe."
Ebert praises that the film, while filled with obvious product placement and banking on both nostalgia for the toons & star power of Jordan, accomplishes it's goal of being a family for that can be enjoyed by adults and children, and also the ability to blend techniques of live action, animation and 3D rendering.
I bring this up specifically b/c when I see "reviews" of shows in BL - the most common form of meta I see in BL fandom as a whole and that's not a knock just an observation - it's usually always about the narrative. Nothing about the filmmaking. And if there is discussion about he filmmaking it's usually misinformed or worse misinforming - no that's not what aperture means, yaoi framing isn't really a thing in film, the t-shirt is really just a t-shirt, etc, etc.
And like I get why. Fandom is more about story, what the words on a page or what the characters on screen are doing and saying. It's easier to talk about the amazing communication two characters have b/c you don't really need a film knowledge to discuss that. Which is a factor in why I think shows with lower stakes, more streamlined and straightforward plots get praised at a higher, less diligent and harsh level, than shows that are a bit more daring. They're less challenging in structure, they take less risks, so there's less to critique, and there's less room for a show to disappoint.
There comfort food, rather than trying something new at the restaurant. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, again, this is just a general observation.
To me, The Sign is miles better than Cooking Crush on a simple technical level. I only watched one episode of Cooking Crush and I found it pretty mediocre at best from all technical points: acting, editing, cinematography, directing, storytelling.
This isn't to say Cooking Crush is "bad" or that even if Cooking Crush was "bad" people shouldn't like it. I don't give a fuck if people like it, good for you chase the things that spark joy! I like lots of "bad" media, have y'all ever watched Jason Takes Manhattan?
For me, The Sign, like Space Jam, accomplishes it's goals and those were ambitious goals. An action fantasy BL that actually lives up to that premise and looks good?? The fight choreography looks great considering the obviously budget??
Like one of my issues with Laws of Attraction - aside from how painfully disinterested those kisses looked - was the fight choreography was bad.
The characters very rarely land hits in a way that looks real, or even marginally real. I can only speculate they didn't hire a stunt coordinator and/or couldn't hire stunt doubles so there was a worry of injury on set (for both reasons).
This isn't a disparagement on the actor(s) either, like stunt work is difficult and it's important to have professionals on set who can walk an actor through the steps so both them and others don't get hurt. Jackie Chan is probably one of the best known actors alive for stunt work, but watch how many times he fumbles and potentially hurts himself to the point where other actors are actively worried for him:
youtube
So yeah I'm going to give The Sign it's fucking gold star stickers b/c aside from some missteps in the gun handling - to many one handed gun fights but even then it wasn't all the time and bullets ran out of ammo! Y'all don't know how exciting for me that was to see - the fight scenes look damn good.
I understand the work that went into them, I understand the pre-production time that it took for the crew and cast to learn that and filming them well is another beast too.
There's a couple scenes with shaky cam that I dislike, but god do I love that first long take in The Sign. I love how good the CGI looks overall again, considering what is probably less budget than Black Christmas (2019).
I'm admittedly, fucking picky about what I watch b/c I'm really lazy and prefer watching films in general. I don't really like TV all that much, but if I am watching a tv show I wanna be impressed with more than just the characters talking to each other. Especially if said show is 12 hours or more.
When I'm looking at a piece of media - a comic, a novel, a film, a tv show - I'm thinking about stuff like "what were it's goals, and did it accomplish them? How was the filmmaking? How was the narrative structure? What is the time/place/culture this was made in?"
I'm not sure if people are arguing if The Sign was "successful" in terms of narratively, monetarily, or critically.
In reality we can only really speculate on how successful a Thai BL is based on data that's not not entirely accurate - social media, youtube stats, awards, etc - and even then most of that is based off international audience.
I can glean that 2gether was successful for gmmtv b/c it got a second season and a film, pretty much skyrocketed Bright and Win's individual careers but again, and created a cross country alliance for activism. But even all that is still speculation not facts (except the alliance that's a real thing that happened lol).
[This is all regardless of my own feelings regarding the show which is not kind. But feelings have nothing to do with individual discussion about how monetarily successful or accomplished a show is or isn't.]
Like it might be valid speculation on both shows but it should always come with a disclaimer of - these are not facts. Also, what is "popular" or "successful" can and will be dependent on individual countries too.
Take Cutie Pie for example, I would argue that it wasn't super "successful" here with American fans, but given how overwhelmingly popular Zee and NuNew are in both Thailand and Korea, I would then argue that the show was a success in Thailand and Korea. So was Cutie Pie "successful" or not? I would say yes!
Because "success" isn't and shouldn't be measured only by how western fans receive a piece of media.
In regards to The Sign, I'd argue it appears to be very successful with only the partial data I have at hand - social media which includes places like twitter, facebook, tumblr, the success of their sold out showing for the finale, a special episode, etc. If people argue it was unsuccessful in terms of narrative, well that's debatable and I have no interest in debating why the show is good except in terms of technical filmmaking and storytelling.
And even then it's a pointless debate like or dislike whatever just don't lie or mislead people regarding film terminology and techniques or harass people because they did like A Thing or clog up the tags with annoying posts about how you didn't like said Thing.
Overall, I don't give "reviews" on things I watch either positive or negative cause, well, I'm lazy lol, I don't believe putting how much I hate a show in it's tags and a thorough rating system would be to much work. I actually like how My Drama List rating system works, I just find most reviews on it to be Annoying lmao. Like giving Kinnporsche a 5 or below is absolutely bonkers to me but whatever es lo que es. But I also don't think my thoughts and opinions on shows are that valuable in terms of discussion.
These are mostly my general thoughts on fandom at large and it's not directly at any particular people its just observations at large across various social media platforms.
I think if you like more squeecore shows that's totally gucci, I just wish didn't proposite that 1) those are the only valid shows in terms of BL/queer media and 2) didn't overhype them to such sky high levels

I finally got to see All of Us Strangers last night, and I went from HUH. OKAY?? to WT actual F over the course of a few hours and am now at a mixture of HUH. OKAY?? and WTF, I think.
I think what it comes down is: This wasn't the tragedy I expected and definitely not the one I wanted??
Like, I went into this knowing the few Harry/Adam scenes you get in gifs sets (I skipped the ones with Adam's parents because that seemed too spoilery! LOL) and the bits you get from official summaries -- like that the parents are dead/ghosts/what have you.
And then I got to the point in the movie at which I thought, well, is everyone a ghost/dead then? And then we got to the ending and that penultimate scene -- after we'd resolved the bit with the parents -- and it was like, surely not? They're surely not actually gonna go there? And then they did, and I didn't even know what to do with that, but it still wasn't unexpected -- not really? The unexpected bit was more the fact that it was actually the thing that happened. And then the gut punch I didn't even think about as an option was the reveal that not only had he been dead the whole time but no, the key moment and turning point was that first meeting, and I now have 6 pages of notes app notes that I wrote down on my journey home from the cinema, so I can discuss this with my friend once she's seen it and to make sense of my thoughts and feelings, and I still don't know what I'm supposed to do with this movie and this ending now! (Side note: Although writing this really helped?? lol)
Kudos to the entire cast, though! I love Andrew Scott's work, anyway, and I thought his performance felt beautifully stripped back and bare and honest. And I was really intrigued by Paul Mescal. I'd seen him (obv) in Normal People (which wasn't really my favourite show) and The Lost Daughter (I'd forgotten he was even in it until recently), but he didn't really stick with me in terms of his performance or the roles I'd seen him in. But this felt so different and like he threw himself so into that character that wasn't even in that many scenes, he really disappeared into the part for me. I also found that character so interesting, especially in retrospect, because while Harry represented a different generation (loved that bit, especially the discussion of queer vs. gay), his purpose in the narrative was also to be there for Adam. And then the bit at the end when we learn that Adam could've been there for him -- but also couldn't be. Or rather, Harry needed someone to be there for him, and he reached out (had the courage or maybe desperation to) and no one reached back.
That bit where Adam told him in the end that he hadn't been ready to or couldn't let him in like, obviously on the metaphorical level. But it also made me think about it at the level of well, this is a drunk stranger standing in front of your door saying weird things, and you're the only two people in the building. Like, is this a threat? Depends on which genre we're in. Which now reminds me of... Was it a tweet or a post on here or general writing advice? The bit where the characters don't know which genre they're in, so they're not necessarily acting in accordance with the genre guidelines. Like, is this a meetcute or is this person going to rob and/or murder you? Anyway...
I haven't really read any of the reviews yet or watched the actors talk about the movie, so I don't now how we all feel about the question of ghosts vs. hallucinations (vs. dreams vs. at some point I thought about whether this was all part the story/script Adam was writing). And I don't know if it actually matters what they were.
I knew there would be tragedy in this because of the few vague reactions I'd seen, but I expected it to be in the relationship with the parents and not the romance. That subversion! (Was it really one?) Although, the tragedy wasn't even necessarily in the romance but in the figure of Harry in the end? Or emotionally, that's where I was, anyway. The way Adam lost his parents but got to 'resolve' his conflict with them while Harry's parents were still alive but he might as well have been a ghost. Also, the bit where he was a ghost to his family but very visible and corporeal to Adam!
I just read a post that mentioned that different people would take different things from this movie, and that's always so interesting. It reminds me of how different people took different things from Poor Things, which I saw only a couple of weeks ago and ended up being really annoyed with.
I didn't cry at the ending. It happened so fast and was so expected but unexpected -- the ominous music in that scene and also in earlier scenes?? I didn't even have time to process this in order to have a reaction. I did tear up at the Christmas scene, though. The relationship between Adam and his parents, especially with his dad, felt really true and honest and recognisable, especially given the 80s context.
I even laughed a few times now that I think about it! And I think the entire theatre had a (maybe relieved) chuckle when Adam and his dad had muddled their way through the stereotype discussion and in the end agreed that no, Adam can indeed not throw for shit.
I think I'll probably need to see this again at some point. I read this article on how Disney (in line with the streamers in general) wants to stop selling physical media and how this might affect a DVD release, and oh, fuck that. Give us the DVD! I want to put this on my shelf!

AOT Characters As Actors
OKAY I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN DONE A MILLION TIMES BEFORE but I cant help but want to join in because its so fun.
Imagining the characters of AOT as their actor selves after the show is wrapped up. Pls enjoy! <3 LMK if u want a part two
Ymir (Scouts): One of the sweetest people on set, just really good at playing such an asshole, lol. The one during the press tours to make sure that Gabby, Falco and young Ymir are all okay. Making sure that paparazzi aren't bothering everyone and generally getting along with the whole cast. Goes on social media after and does a whole soft-girl rebrand so that people know shes that good at acting.
Jean: THIS MAN WOULD BE OUR PEDRO PASCAL. Absolutely loves the love he gets from his stans and loves watching fan account compilations of him. Wears wild looks on the red carpet because he knows the fans are going to go crazy. Posts photos of himself in costume backstage becuase he knows we'd EAT IT UP. Silly and goofy and generally just loves to say he was a part of the show. Would love to do costumed appearances for late night shows and fan meetings; he just absolutely loves the fans and his role.
Erwin: I feel like as an actor he'd be so funny. He's the star who anchors the show and gives it the original buzz. He's always playing jokes on his co-stars and loves messing with everyone. I feel like him and actor Zeke would get along so well and just mess with people. Not a huge social media guy but I feel like he'd post group pictures of the cast at the premier with the caption "We did it, guys". Does a whole GQ cover and interview to promote the show.
Hange: This is their debut role and I feel like the public just IMMEDIATELY falls in love with them. I feel like actor Hange would be so shy and intimidated by the love for the character they play. But the public would love them even more for that and encourage them soooo much. Levi is like their biggest supporter and always hyping them up during interviews. Would post a long love-letter-goodbye speech to their character on Instagram after the show ends. Would sooo steal looks at award shows. Gets into some really big A24 movies and shows after and is in general, just killing it.
Mikasa: She would be the IT girl after the show was over. Her haircut would be trending on tiktok and people would be photographing her everywhere. I see her being someone who adopts parts of Mikasa into her everyday persona. Becomes really passionate about supporting young women and girls in her spare time. THE RUMOURS ABOUT HER AND EREN ARE FLYING. Like everyone is constantly wondering if they're dating in real life or not. In the end, I feel like they'd both stay friends but people would always wonder. Post a lot on social media and has a ton of followers. Zendaya vibes; gets into everything and does so well and ALWAYS EATS IT UP AT AWARD SHOWS
Armin: By the end of the series, Armin is like the new heartthrob of the whole series. I feel like irl he's actually pretty confident and outgoing. Like, he would try his best to change his brand from sweet inquisitive nerd to bad boy by doing like 'rugged' GQ shoots and generally going for more 'action hero' characters outside of the show. HARD LAUNCHES A PARTNER AT THE FINAL PREMIERE and everyone is like omg ARMIN THEY'RE FINE AS HELL. Really enjoys the action and thriller genres and does a lot of movies of those kinds.
Eren: The character really shapes him as an actor (obvs) and I feel like he gets cast in a lot of similar protagonist roles. Everyone loses their minds for shirtless rebel Eren with long hair, and I feel like he's actually kind of shy about it when he talks about it during press interviews. Super jokey and really into fashion (like cool vintage fashion) and people like to emulate his style. Really gets along with everyone and, like, has absolute eyes for Mikasa during interviews (like their chemistry is flying) and there's all these fan theories that he loves her but they just remain friends. I feel like he goes off the map from acting for awhile after a demanding film schedule to travel the world, and his feed is just cool film pictures of his adventures for a bit. Kind of a private dude, but absolutely adored.
Levi: Okay this show is Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man for Levi. He was like a teen hearthrob and then some kind of drama happened in his early 20's and he fell off the map for a few years. He comes back for this role and everyone is like OH MY GOD HOW DID WE EVER STOP SEEING HIM IN MOVIES HES THE BEST. I feel like his life would be similar to his existence in the fandom now lol; people would absolutely love him. I feel like he's a really down to earth guy (KEANU REEVES TYPE) and during his break from blockbuster hits he was in a bunch of amazing indie movies that get popular after the show, and theres just a million pictures of him back in the 90's/2000's where people are just fawning over Levi in his 20's. Does a lot of magazine and video interviews but isn't particularly active on social media (not his thing) and that makes him even hotter to people. He'd write a book after to tell his life story. And like, you know actor Levi has an absolutely ridiculously hot partner and they've been married for years and he's just THAT GUY.
OKAY THATS IT! I hope you enjoyed this post, lmk if you want another part with more characters! <3

CPN : XZ interview bits that made us 👀
I missed XZ and his long interviews, so this one he did for weibo night 22’ was such a treat. It truly gave us an insight on the things he did for the past few months and he is such a good person to interview! he is generous with his answers and is thoughtful with them too.
Tumblr media
now let’s see what sections peaked our interest & it’s cpn connection. everything is fake ‼️‼️‼️
disclaimer that interview like this can definitely be enjoyed without the cpn-glasses on. that’s how it should be. but since i’m a turtle and this blog does cpn, i can’t help but point certain things out. the general point is, we see connections between them in these things cause we pay attention.
He is so very pretty and glowing in this interview. compared to his weibo tv & drama stint, where he was still smiling and all but you can tell that the mood is a bit off. Maybe it’s because he was able to spend time with wang yibis. 💕
• His goals and what he wants to do next truly mirrors that of WYB. even in WYB’s short speech, he mentions that he will work harder. I’ve said this multiple times but the goal they had in 2018, when they were still newbie actors still stands today. They never stop learning and want to improve. If they are gonna do something, they are gonna do it right. It would be easy, with their fame, to just go with the flow and let their fans do the rest. but no, they respect the profession and are willing to do the work.
I also like it when he says that people will see his growth in his works. It’s a WYB type of answer. I won’t tell you, see for yourself. I’m so excited to his new dramas tbh! Ace Troops was filmed 2020 so I can only imagine how much he has improved since then.
Tumblr media
• The part of the interview that moved us, was him talking about a puppy-style warmth and how smiley he was while saying it. The kind of sweet smile you see when certain topics are brought up ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Tumblr media
funny thing is, after he said it, the interviewer was like — what do you mean? what kind of warmth is that? puppy like? lol. sister, it’s okay if you don’t understand — but certain kind of people will. *ehem* bxgs.
Puppy is of course, his one & only —WYB. I never got this bit before, that one thing he sees in Yibo is that he has that warmth in him. People who meet WYB will say that he is too cold and quiet but he was never like that with Yibo. He was basking in his warmth although out that summer and beyond. Also WYB’s devotion to him was probably something else and we all saw it. 🥹🥹🥹🥹
Tumblr media
( this puppy yibo please. no wonder ZZ went to BAH filming to see him. allegedly. )
• HAHAHAHAHAHA! I have no words but Himalaya podcast incident. A legendary fandom cpn if you ask me. 😂😂😂😂
Tumblr media
He should make one from this genre! It would be amazing!
• ZZ has always been someone who loves watching movies, especially foreign ones. both for enjoyment and also now that he’s an actor — for studying. this reminds me of WYB being asked by CE to watch The Godfather and other films as a reference for his role as Mister Ye. I wonder if when they are together, they sometimes pick a classic movie to see.
I love them! Go on and explore more films ☺️
Tumblr media
• Oh! The character development! I’m so proud of him for eating well now 🤍
While I do think this is something that he has discovered this fact on his own, I can’t help but think back on the time in 2018 when WYB was nagging him to eat. At the time, there was his “little friend” who always reminded him that food is important. It’s these changes because of each other that make me soft!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• Lastly, there is talk about ZZ choosing Deep Sea as a movie that he watched during the Spring Festival. I mean, we all know that he will not say Wuming. Even if he watched and loved it. Saying that will go on HS, and not in a good way, it will cause another rift between fandoms and it’s better to keep each other’s name out of their mouth.
Turtles have noticed that he said a lot of “fillers” and did not just answer the question directly like he did with others. So it’s like, he has something on his mind but ended up answering different. He also stopped and stuttered a bit and we take that as a cue that he is trying to hide something. LOL. Not to say that he didn’t enjoy Deep Sea, i’m pretty sure he loved it like he said he did.
even though Hidden Blade ticks all his boxes, I mean, come on! :

Murder by Death (1976)
Tumblr media
A weird little guy invites five world-famous detectives to his spooky mansion for the weekend, to see if he can outwit them once and for all. Silliness and charmingly lame jokes ensue. And if you're at least a casual fan of 20th century English-language detective fiction / movies up to 1976, you'll appreciate the characters and genre tropes being parodied / taken down here.
While not as raucously funny as other comedy movies from this era (like Airplane! and Blazing Saddles, assuming that era's comedy works for you at all), the Neil Simon script is consistently chuckle-worthy, with some genuine lol moments. There is one joke involving Peter Falk firing a gun and having to go to the bathroom that is one of the stupidest, funniest things I have ever seen, almost entirely because of how he delivers it. Seriously, the whole movie is worth watching just for that.
Speaking of Peter Falk, the cast is Hollywood royalty, many of them reprising crime-solving characters in parody that they were at this point famous for. Special note to James Coco as the Hercule Peroit parody Milo Perrier, one of the few actors who seems to get the tone the screenplay is trying for, so he is perpetually funny. And of course Peter Falk as Sam Diamond, being absolutely perfect as Columbo doing Humphrey Bogart doing Sam Spade. Falk was never not 110%, and that's also true here. Truman Capote, playing the principal antagonist, is...well. He was never a great actor. But he's certainly being Truman Capote and that kind of makes up for it.
Also special shout-out to Estelle Winwood, who at 93 is bright-eyed and sharp enough to make an extended fart joke funny.
(That woman died eight years after this, two years after I was born. She was born in 1883 and debuted on Broadway in 1916. Amazing.)
The big black mark on this is Peter Sellers as Sidney Wang, doing his awful stupid Charlie Chan Tojo "me so solly" yellowface garbage. Obviously his history of doing this character like this, to pop culture acclaim, was enough to get him into this movie doing it, WELL PAST the point where it was in any way acceptable. The movie knows that, sort of, and tries to Tropic Thunder it by making his behavior an object of (too) light scorn, while also pairing him with an "adopted Japanese son," played by Japanese-American actor Richard Narita. It is still utterly awkward and gross, redeemed only slightly by the fact that Sellers is a good actor so he gives Wang genuine depth of character, despite the rest of this. That is in no way a defense, and it is still terrible. Just slightly less terrible, maybe? Relatively?
With all of the magical realism and trope tear-downs in this plot, I kept expecting by the end that someone would reveal Sellers as a character perpetuating a racist fraud. But they aren't brave enough to do that. Real shame.
Tumblr media
Also there are no Holmes and Watson parodies here, which seems like a glaring omission. Wikipedia says they cut scenes from the original screenplay which would have had them either show up right at the end, after the crime has already been solved, or near the end, and then solve it. These were apparently cut because it was decided they would distract from and overshadow the plot at that point.
Fair enough. But as the plot by the end is purposeful convoluted goofiness mixed with a meta-commentary on the whodunnit genre in general...would it have made THAT much of a difference? I don't think so.
It is a breezy 90 minutes. And while the first half drags purposefully bad jokes out a little too long and has trouble settling on a consistent comedic tone, it ramps up and is really solid by the end.
There are also some surprising jokes about sexuality and gender identity here. I don't want to oversell that, because it is all played as just more wackiness. But I didn't expect anything quite like this in a Hollywood movie from 1976. A welcome surprise.
Oh and the paper caricatures of the cast at the beginning and end were drawn by Charles Addams. Yes, THAT Charles Addams.
Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 67%. I'd go higher than that, at least the high seventies. That Peter Falk bathroom joke at like an hour and seventeen minutes is really goddamn funny.

this is so random but i would love to hear your opinion on mydramalist as a fellow asian drama lover. because it’s obviously well known as a reliable wiki of sorts in dramaland but i beg to differ. (the only plus i feel being the summary and cast list for info)
i mean, i’ve not seen a single comsec w more than two brain cells as a whole? there’s always complaints about female leads rooted from misogyny, they are never happy about story progression, and i just find so many of them kinda dumb sorry lol. like zero media literacy to be found, insufferable arguments, etc. the star ratings are rly just given to popular dramas w high profile actors too.
and i personally find it disheartening that so many ppl end up referring to mdl when considering dramas because so many gems are then lost and not given appreciation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
anon. anon anon anon if you know the way i sat straight the f*ck up when i saw the notification and then read through this ask bc yes. yes to everything here that is exactly it. almost three fourths of what i've watched this year was either 1. not received well by the general MDL crowd (Moon in the Day. where is the taste brethren to not like MITD and not even for reasons that actually make sense), 2. received well but had a good chunk of people bitching in the comment section, or 3. received well but had the main point of the show (and its relevant characterization) go over their heads. (The Worst of Evil aka TWOE comment section, i am f*cking looking at you. i can count on one hand the number of people who understood what that show was supposed to be about) the one fourth that managed to escape was bc the toxicity did not reach the comment section and everyone was pretty f*cking civil. alas if only it could be like that all of the time
case in point for the ratings example, since we've already briefly tackled the lack of media literacy—j-dramas on MDL are notoriously rated much, much lower than either k- or c-dramas. half of the time that's bc there are less users watching (and rating) them therefore the average is lower but the other half it's bc people simply do not understand good media when they see it. don't get me wrong there's some freaky ass sh*t in the j-drama world that i would not touch with a Grinch level pole but to see MDLers out here talking about how slow j-dramas are and that nothing's happening. have you considered that you are either watching the wrong genre or you shouldn't be watching j-dramas in the first place bc their entire setup and general narrative framing arcs are not your style. have you even thought about that for six seconds or are you too busy expecting it to read like a typical tropey rom-com k-drama with your trending oppas. (no hate on my tropey rom-coms with [most of] said oppas, i need them when i don't want to think i just want to see sh*t on my screen and scream about hot people and the Hand Umbrellas in the Rain and the Back Hold when the male lead catches the female lead before she falls and you have the fifteen second focus on their faces just looking at each other)
and the misogyny. oh God do not get me started on the dichotomy that was the Cult, as we affectionatly called ourselves, on the feeds while THEE sageuk of the year My Dearest was airing (beloved show [that i still need to finish. JangChae i'm sorry ily life hates me like the mf it is 😭], beloved commentary on the feeds. they saw the vision on the feeds) vs the sh*tshow that was the landmine field of the comment section (the takes i saw on Gil Chae, Eun Ae AND Ryang Eum respectively.......... the misogyny wasn't enough we had to add the homophobia into the mix. buy one get one free deal fr fr). you mad man. that sh*t was insane there was a point i banned myself from scrolling farther than the cast section until the show finished airing. i kid you not on average they didn't have even half a braincell. maybe a quarter of a quarter of one. f*cked up just say you are not decent people and go
this is not to say that all of MDL is like this. i have gotten tuned into absolute masterpieces of content (and have tuned others, amen) bc of a comment comparing a show i'm watching to another one or a review being posted in the feeds about a film with less than 500 people interested. i have reconsidered my choice to not watch something after having spirited discussions in private messages discussing the pros and cons of the premise and whether they managed to get it done without f*cking sh*t up. i still contribute semi-regularly by adding relatively unknown actors and crew members to the database so they can get the credit due them. if you know where to look, you can get some good sh*t out of that place. problem is most users who are new to both the site and East/Southeast Asian cinema as a whole don't know where to look, and the cycle continues, and the ratings continue to be skewed/bloated and no one pays attention to the plot, if there even is any to pay attention to.
tl;dr: begging people to not let MDL be the be all end all for their drama recs a la 'well MDL doesn't like it so i won't watch it'. babe we have said MDLers complaining about how the ratings on Viki are too high but in my entire time watching dramas i've found that in the past two to three years the Viki ratings are making more sense than the MDL ones. sit with that for a sec. when you're done branch out and see the world (literally and cinematically), i promise you will be a better person for it

Silly question because I was scrolling through your Tumblr blog and really wanted to ask something but nothing came to mind except L and L looking different because Reasons TM.
We have L the rich family heir in the current Time Speaks arc. He's got a Family Approved TM makeover.
But what if Light was given a chance to give L a makeover? How would this new and visually improved L be?
Also how long do you think before L takes back makeover privileges and gets back to his usual? I bet an hour, max lmao.
So I thought about this for a minute lol
The thing about Light is, I actually don't think he spends as much time on his appearance or on appearance in general as some fanon implies. Yes, he's put together and looks good, but most of that is just a clean haircut and his natural face. Light is just good-looking on his own hahahahaha, and he uses that against people as part of his repertoire of tactics. Personally tho I think he relies on the "upstanding member of society" shtick much more than his looks, despite how I personally like to comment on his face in my story.
Why did I ramble about this here, you may ask? Because I actually don't see Light as giving L a makeover or even thinking about it much, based simply on what Light finds value in or has an interest in. At best I think he'd buy L a nice suit, or at the very least some fitting clothes, and give him a haircut, but nothing more than that. This would be a special occasion with other people involved, and so L would give in since he'd see it as important enough to submit until the end of whatever occasion it is. But in daily life or a makeover just for fun? I don't think Light would do it. Their weird sexual tension is 90% cerebral, and while Light uses society's proceptions against them, I don't think he takes them seriously himself. He's an actor on a stage wearing a costume, which is also why I think he's got so may clothes, and so many "fit the situation" clothing as we see. But beyond that, he doesn't care what others look like, and certainly doesn't care about L's looks beyond that one time he called him a weirdo when they met.
Also I don't think Light knows a thing about makeup (remaining purposefully ignorant, despite Misa's attempts), but also he's possessive and wouldn't want L to look too good to other people. So even less inclination to give him a makeover lol. But he does, personally, admire what L looked like with slicked-back hair when he has the chance to see it, as in that one fan art of them in the tub I've saved. >v>
Sorry if that's not the answer you were hoping for, it was still a fun one for me to think about!
(Now, if you'd asked about Misa giving L a makeover, that's a whole other story; she would sit him down and keep him there as her doll (hah) for as long as she possibly could, and he would actually just give in cause why not, he's bored, let's see what Misa can do. And she'd go in full, she'd dress him in all types of styles and genres, from historical to modern to goth, and even go into cosplay a bit, with full makeup and accessories. She would splurge on this cause his frame would make him perfect for some anime cosplay. There would be photoshoots, face artfully averted of course, and they'd be popular online. This would include male and female outfits btw. And L would have fun, even tho he didn't expect that he would, he finds it interesting. While Light would watch from the sidelines with an annoyed look on his face (he's not fooling anyone, he's there for every shoot). L, in contrast to Light, would actually listen to Misa and learn about a full makeup and hair care routine. He'd never employ that knowledge personally, but he'd remember it even if just to bring up to Light randomly like "Light-kun could do with some moisturizing sunscreen and leave-in conditioner, you're looking a bit sun damaged" "What?" lmao.)
So, yeah! ^v^

Some Personal Favorite K-Dramas
This is just a lil list of K-Dramas that are among my current favorites to return to (and return to often). I don't have this list ordered in any particular way aside from pairing dramas that share a lead together. I'll include little bits as to why they're on the list and/or mini reviews.
This list may get updated as I go to add more dramas that I find to be rewatchable!
Shopaholic Louis (aka Shopping King Louie)
This is a K-Drama that I just adore, it's adorable rom-com fluff. There's not really much of a villain or anything and honestly it's just a great drama (in my opinion) to unwind to. The relationship between Louis and Bok-shil is just so adorable and wholesome, I can't help but smile at how cute they are and just how much they trust each other.
I feel like this drama is underrated, so I really want to recommend this to anyone who enjoys rom-coms and especially light ones that are just romantic fluff! ♥
Tumblr media
Doom At Your Service
Alright, so I do love this show and while I have re-watched it in it's entirety several times, I have now gotten to the point where I skip the 2nd lead female's love triangle when I re-watch it. I don't enjoy love triangles in general and since hers really doesn't impact the main plot of the show and also feels really slow and boring compared to the fantasy romance that is the main plot, it's really skippable in order to get to the parts that I do enjoy/want to see. Which is anything with Doom and Tak Dong-kyung.
This was the first Seo In-guk drama that I had ever watched where he was a lead (I first saw him in his cameo role in Abyss) and I think this and/or Shopaholic Louis were the reason that he became one of my biases.
Despite it's flaws, I would still recommend this! It's not perfect and I won't pretend like it is, but I think that it is a good show all the same and I really enjoy re-watching it. I would definitely recommend this if you happen to be a fan of any of the actors. Honestly, there's no shame in watching something just for a bias (I say this, but I'll still blush and be shy to admit when I want to watch something just because of 1 person).
Tumblr media
W: Two Worlds
I don't know if saying "I re-watch this show a lot" quite covers the amount of times and the frequency with which I re-watch this show. I have no idea what it is about this show, but despite (or in spite of) it's flaws, I always find myself coming back to it again and again. For whatever reason, I just adore it. I'm obsessed with W and I'm not entirely sure if I can or will ever be able to pin down why. I find the premise of the show interesting and extremely up my alley (as someone who also enjoys the isekai anime genre, this is basically a Korean live-action isekai).
This drama just has a special hold on my heart, to the point that if I see a good edit on YouTube or gif set, I instantly want to re-watch the show again.
I think I really just love the trope of "rebelling against the author" which is just a niche version of "rebelling against fate."
This happens to be the show that made Lee Jong-suk one of my biases as well as the first drama of his that I watched.
Tumblr media
While You Were Sleeping
This is another Lee Jong-suk drama that I love to re-watch, though I've re-watched it considerably fewer times than the previous three dramas on this list and even some that come after this one on the list. I haven't re-watched it that many times only because I've marked it as "dangerous to watch late at night.” This is because, with my ADHD and trouble modulating my volume when I'm enjoying something, I may laugh too loudly and could wake someone up.
I loved the premise of this show, I also consider it to be the only show with a love triangle that I actually like the handling of. Which is saying something because I really dislike love triangles.
Random Fun Fact: This show is actually available on Hulu! Quite hilariously, it is labeled as "Health & Wellness" and "Reality"...of which it is neither of those things lol Unless by "Reality" they mean live-action. This is a fact that makes me laugh and had to share.
Extra-ordinary You
This was the first K-Drama set in high school that I had ever watched and I do not regret it. I loved the premise and the execution of this show so much. As someone aspiring to be an author as well as someone who enjoys reading, I really loved the characters slandering the author of the comic book that they were a part of.
I really loved the friendship and romance between Ha-ru and Dan-oh, there were so many moments when Ha-ru made my heart flutter right alongside Dan-oh’s.
I also really loved the friendship between both Ha-ru, Dan-oh and Do-hwa. ❤️
I personally consider this show "ADHD friendly" since the episodes are about 30 minutes long and it also makes it easier to stop so you can go to sleep. Except I didn't stop to sleep when I first watched it, I binge-watched it through the night and into the morning (don’t make my mistakes lol).
Tumblr media
Abyss
This was the third drama I had ever watched and while I haven't re-watched it lately, it used to be something that I re-watched a lot. I really enjoyed this show and I'll definitely come back and re-watch it again. It will forever be a marked improvement compared to the first drama I had ever watched.
Since this was the 3rd ever drama I'd seen, I was really confused why the "trailer" Netflix had showed a scene that was not in the show. Between the summary and clip, I really thought it was going to start out way different than it did lol
The humor in this show killed me so many times. The scene where Se-yeon is trying to explain that the dead body of the tall guy in the morgue is Cha Min will live rent free in my brain forever.
This happens to be the drama that made Ahn Hyo-seop one of my biases (and my first K-Drama bias too!).
Tumblr media
I Am Not A Robot
I found this show to be very interesting and funny, as well as cute. I have to say that the concept of being allergic to humans was probably the first thing that really drew me to this drama. I wanted to know how that was even possible lol
I came to really love the romance and the friendship that the leads formed as well as the friendship/camaraderie of the research team.
Admittedly, I've only re-watched this a handful of times, but I do still enjoy it and do come back to it. ♥ I really loved the humor and the heart in this show!
My Roommate Is A Gumiho
Admittedly, I haven't seen the webtoon that this show was based off of, so I don't know how good it is compared to the source material. That being said, I have a history of liking things independent from their source material (whether they were a good adaptation or not). Testament to this claim is the fact that as a kid I very unironically loved the movie adaptation of Eragon despite it being a very bad adaptation and having actually read the book.
I'm getting wildly off track though lol
I really love this show, I loved the premise and I loved the special effects, the humor, and the relationships. Hyeri did a great job as Lee Dam, the character was hilarious and the scenes of her rolling away and in general avoiding the 2nd male lead will always be worth re-watching the show again…even though I’m mainly there for the romance between her and Shin Woo-Yeo.
Tumblr media
Splash Splash Love
This is actually the first historical romance drama that I had ever watched! This show is really cute and funny, I really loved the premise and the plot.
As someone who has always had a bad relationship with math, I could relate to the female lead, on top of wanting to just... escape school.
I consider this show to be extremely ADHD friendly because there's literally only 2 episodes and they're both basically the length of a Disney movie or less. You can finish this show so fast and it's worth it.
This is something that I like to watch if I just need a quick little pick-me-up.
Tumblr media
Business Proposal
Another drama adapted from a webtoon that I also haven't read/seen.
I jumped on this purely because of Ahn Hyo-seop and it. did. not. disappoint. Oh my gosh, this show was just wonderful, I came running to Netflix whenever a new episode dropped and I enjoy re-watching it for much of the same reasons why I love re-watching Shopaholic Louis. It's fluffy, it's cute, it's also hilarious and it's just a really enjoyable show. ♥
Tumblr media
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo
This is a K-Drama that I slept on for awhile. I honestly am not big into sports related stuff, but after seeing K-Drama edits on YouTube that included clips from this show (and finding out that Lee Jong-suk had a cameo in it), I decided to give it a chance and I do not regret doing that at all!
The cameo that I came for was worth it (in my opinion) and more importantly, I came to love the show. I really loved the gradual growth in the relationship between the male lead and the female lead. While I didn't initially like that he called her Chubs, I found myself not holding it against him and being glad he ultimately dropped it for the most part.
This show was packed with loads of humor and on top of it, it happened to check the boxes on some of my favorite tropes, so how could I not end up falling in love with it?
Tumblr media
Romance Is A Bonus Book
Admittedly, this drama is unusual for me. I mentioned before in my introduction post that I don't generally watch noona romances. The main reason that I gave this one a try was because of Lee Jong-suk and also because it involved books.
This show surprised me as I didn't expect to end up liking it as much as I did. I found the relationship between Eun-ho and Dan-i to be cute and wholesome, I really loved the way Eun-ho would support and cheer on Dan-i.
I found that the show left me with a very specific vibe, which was that of cozying up with a good book (specifically an old favorite) on a rainy day. Something about the show just felt comforting in that exact way and because of that, I re-watch this show whenever I feel like I'm in need of that.
Tumblr media
Semantic Error
Yet another webtoon-turned-kdrama that I haven't seen (although I have seen the ads for it). I watched this on the recommendation of a friend (though I had been interested in it for awhile, but hadn't started it because I was worried it wouldn't be as good as it sounded).
This is the first LGBTQ+ K-Drama that I've seen and I really enjoyed it, I found it funny, cute and the soundtrack was great! This is another show that I would classify as "ADHD Friendly" as the episodes are short enough that you can easily finish the show in less than a day (roughly 3 hours to be exact!) and the show kept my attention.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo
At the time of writing this, I haven't yet finished this show. I still have 3 or 4 episodes left to go, BUT, this show is so good already that I know I'm going to end up re-watching it a lot. If nothing else than to re-watch the really cute and utterly wholesome relationship between Attorney Woo and Jun-ho. ♥
Seriously, this drama makes me want more dramas with wholesome love lines with characters with disabilities (portrayed well and accurately of course).

there is a big difference in acting styles between eastern and western people, especially in tv. Is there the same difference in theater?
So I may be the wrong person to ask this, because as a Chinese-American who straddles both the "east" and the "west" and who watches movies and the occasional TV show from both sides, I don't see much difference at all! At least in terms of emotional affect, I get the same whether I'm watching "eastern" or "western" media, and maybe that's just my brain being split between them, but yeah, that's all I can tell you lol. (Unless you're thinking of, like, Chinese soap operas or k-dramas or something? Because yeah those I don't watch and for all I know the acting is different there, but I imagine the genre plays as much a factor there as anything else.)
As for theater, I think my knowledge is pretty spotty and is centered almost entirely on East Asian theater (Japan, Korea, China), and even then there are large gaps. Like, I'm pretty familiar with Korean musicals, I've watched quite a few different shows from there (and they're excellent! Korean musical theatre is really underrated outside of, you know, Korean musical theatre fans). With Japan I'm mainly confined to a few select shows and companies, which I think skews my perceptions (let me tell you, Takarazuka can be really different from the rest of Japanese musical theatre). And with China the only thing I've seen is their production of Phantom (I'm not counting the World Tours that have gone there, to me that's "western" musicals taking a visit to the east). So take whatever I say next with a pretty big grain of salt.
For Korean musical theatre, I honestly don't find much if any difference in their acting styles. Watching their versions of Phantom, Elisabeth, Wicked, and so on, it affects me just as much emotionally as any other production I've watched; if there are any differences, I find it's usually because of an individual actor, not because of some culture-wide trend.
For Japanese musical theatre, I think they do tend to go for a more restrained, subtle form of acting, and a lot of them do come off more reserved, but I can also think of a number of exceptions. Also, since my main expertise is Phantom, it's difficult for me to make generalizations because, if you don't know, the Japanese production uses pre-recorded orchestrations anytime the production plays outside Tokyo (and Yokohama in 2017), and that forces an actor to work within a very rigid structure in order to stay in time with the music. And then on Takarazuka's end, they have a certain aesthetic and style of their own that the actresses have to adhere too. So it's hard for me to make sweeping statements because there's always that thought in the back of my head: "Okay, is it a culture thing or is it because the music is pre-recorded? Is it a culture thing or is it just Takarazuka being Takarazuka?"
For Chinese musical theatre, I've only watched their version of Phantom. And the videos all look like this. I'm not ungrateful, mind you, I'm just pointing out that it's hard for me to say anything about anyone's acting because they all look like white dots on my screen.

Cuddling to the sound of you (and rain)- Kim Taehyung || The one where Tae can't sleep without you
Tumblr media
|| The one where Tae can't sleep without you
~> summary: You're coming back from a work travel but unfortunately, traffic holds you . Leaving Tae trying to stay awake to see you.
~> pairing: painter!tae x photographer!reader, gn!reader
~> warning/genre: fluffy fluff (cause i love cuddly Tae), comfort, kisses and kisses, tiny mention of smut (really small), happy tears, domestic Tae (i love him), whipped reader, Tae confesses to you in your sleep :(
~> word count: 2.2K
~> note: i don't know how to write small things lol i tried, but i got so carried away that it got bigger than I thought. I don't care tho, i love it so much. I folded and got all delulu after this hahahah
~> inspired by one of the more comforting songs I've heard (my stories are probably gonna be inspired by songs since i literally breath music):
_______
Tae loved your body. Not only in a sexual way.
He loved your warm, your scent, your energy, and he always let you know that. Let that be by making you his biggest muse, putting paintings of you around the house, having various sketchbooks just for you, or by tracing and kissing every inch of you.
He always knew how to make you feel good, cause you made him feel good.
You're his love, comfort and home, and he'll do anything to let you know that, cuddling and kissing, feeling your love, your walls, complementing you. But in general, he's a big cuddler.
Everyone who knows Tae, are aware of how much he loves to cuddle and with you is no different. He dreams of cuddling you.
Having you in his arms is one of the bests feelings, he feels like he's holding the whole universe. That's why it's so bad when you leave.
"Are you coming soon?" He sounded more needy than he wanted to but that's how he was feeling. "You know i can't sleep well without you" hearing his tired voice made you so sad.
You were supposed to arrive at Seoul by 23:00pm. It was ten minutes to 01:00am. You told Tae would do your best to get home before sleep time, even tho you know that he sleeps before the time you were supposed to arrive. Of course when you got thirty minutes late, you called him and told what happened and he promised to wait awake. But you didn't really counted on the horrible traffic yet to come.
And now here you are, at 00:53am, waiting in the long line of traffic in the starry night of Seoul.
"I'll try my best, baby. I told you you shouldn't wait for me" he only groans in response causing you to chuckle lightly.
"Come fast, please. I'm sleepy" he yawns rubbing his sweet eyes with his fist.
"'K, baby. I will." You could see his smile through the call and it warms your heart to know he'll really try. He mutters a small 'thank you, i love you' and before you reply, he ends the call. It's not like he doesn't know you feel the same, but it's still nice to hear the cute 'aww' he does every time you say it. He's just cute like that.
When you finally arrive your parking lot, your eyes are fighting to stay open when you feel tiredness takes your soul. You're glad you're home. It's been almost a two day travel from Brazil back to here, but with all the beautiful shots you got, it was totally worth it.
Having this kind of work made you travel a lot. Since you're free lancer, you take small jobs and opportunities but being invited to photograph the new Vogue Brazil Photoshoot, made you so happy. You love all those pretty models and celebrities from the magazines - even tho you work more with landscapes and backgrounds other than actual people - it's always fun to work in something new, with someone new. You photographed the big actor Wagner Moura, one of your favorites brazilian actors and also the new voice actor in the second Puss in Boots movie, one you couldn't wait to watch.
After everything you did, sleeping in the nice hotel room was good, but not having your beloved by your side was killing you. You don't really love cuddle that much, but you love him, and loves to cuddle him. So coming back home was something you wanted with your heart. You wanted to have his pretty hands intertwined with yours, you wanted his breath and soft puffs to dance in the air, lullabying you to sleep.
But having to wait, in traffic, with all the other tired people on the street, just annoyed you so much. Like traffic at midnight? This kind of shit only happens when you have something important to do. Like when you had to take Yeontan to a appointment in the vet, and got stuck almost two hours on traffic, or when you had to pee after not being able to go to the bathroom for the entire day. You really had a bad luck. Your only good luck was to find someone like him to love and like Taehyung says, your luck is him, and you are his.
Taking your shoes off has never been so good, you hated the feeling of your feet not being able to see the sunlight for two days, it's not like you had a feet fetish like your partner, you just really liked the comfort of your black flip flops under you, so putting them after a time felt good, but not better than the moment after.
Your eyes catch a different silhouette near the fridge, and the small sound of it closing brings a cute smile on your face. As you took steps in, the male figure stops in front of you and you immediately glare the light reflecting in his eyes. God, how much you missed him. It felt like these two week was two years, everytime one of you travel is this way.
Your body is involved with strong arms and comfort. You can feel your eyes watering but you try to trow the tears away.
"I've missed you so much" his muffled sweet voice relaxes all your muscles and you swear you learn how to fly. "I've missed you too. So much" pulling away, it's noticable in each others faces some trails of fresh tears from the eyes of you both, and Damn it's good. To know someone feels the same you do. To know he feels the same you do.
"Stop staring at me like that, i look like hell" his mouth frown and he wipes your tears and smile at you.
"you look pretty"
"i need a shower" your eyes avoid his as your cheeks stain with a rosy tone.
"I made you a bath"
"No, you didn't" his left hand stays in your face caressing your cheek, while the other fixes your hair. "Uhum, I did." When a smile blooms in your face, he knows he did the right thing. You enter forward to your house and closer to your home, who's finally drinking the now warm water he took from the fridge.
"I love you" his full cheeks look so squishy when he tries to hold his smile, then he gulps holding your hand.
"I love you, too" he takes you by the hand and puts his empty glass near the sink. He can clean that tomorrow.
"I really love you, Tae" you feel a squeeze in your hand as you walk towards your bedroom .
"You can love me all you want after your bath. I want you to relax" your hands move to your boyfriend's face and your lips touches his in a sweet peck, that he deepens by moving you closer to him as he brings your waist closer to his. Feeling his good lips, sweet honey taste in your mouth again after a while, it's the best thing in the world. He helps you undress, slowly and calmly, kissing every nude part of you. When your clothes hit the floor and you're only on your underwear, he slide into the bathroom and gets the good oil scent of lavender you love so much, and puts two small drops on it, like he always does when he makes you a warm bath, he only puts the oil when you're in the room - according to him, it's because he wants you to feel it fresh on your skin. It makes more effect when it's fresh put - a habit you're already used to.
You fastly take your underwear and dips your toe on the water. Still warm. He unconsciously holds your hand for support and you dive into the good and pretty bath.
"God, i love you" you moan when your body embraces the warm water with your lungs inhaling the soft scent of lavender.
"I know. I'll be waiting in the room" you only nod with your eyes close.
"You can take as long as you want, but don't take as long as you want, please. I need to sleep" your laughter fills up the room and his heart. God, he loves you.
"Sure, sure. Won't take long, i promise"
He leaves you, going to the room and letting you have your 'you' moment, that doesn't really take long, since it's late and you're kind of afraid of falling asleep in the bathtub.
After cleaning up and putting your favorite pj's, - Tae's clothes - you join the almost zumbi man in the bed. "Hi baby, I'm here" he hums and stretch his body comfortably, turning to his side to face you. Taking a last look at his phone, he sees the hour "01:47am... Shit" he closes the phone and puts it in your nightstand, quickly hugging you after, making you giggle softly. "I hate traffic"
"Me too"
"I love you tho, and sleep, and sleep with you" your laugh it's music to his red ears. Hugging him too, you put your hand in his chest and your leg on top of his. "It's cold tonight" he squeezes you lightly and covers you both with your warm and fluffy dark blue blanket, the one he bought you when he visited your hometown.
"Yeah, it is. When i was stuck on traffic, i saw the sky very dark and cloudy, i thinks it's gonna rain" he hums, caressing your arms and tapping your feet with his, his little way to annoy you. "I hope it rains, it'll be nice if it'd do." You sigh happily and make little patterns with your fingers, around his chest and biceps, smiling briefly when you notice 'the elephant'.
"I saw your little message. When my manager went to pick me up, he showed me. Thank you, my love" he pecks your head and moves his free hand gently up and down your waist.
"You welcome. Did you saw the lily i bought? I wanted to buy a whole bouquet but i was so anxious that i only bought one instead" you can feel the way he tatamics his words out and apologize for something you didn't really thought about.
"I saw it too. I loved it was a single flower, you know? It makes it special. Just like the little sticker you put on my car- " his body shivers from your gasp and inevitably concern gets him "I forgot my baggages in the car" he chuckles a little and holds you closer, like it's possible to be any closer than this.
"Meh. It doesn't matter. I'll pick them tomorrow"
"Oh, you better" you hide your mouth in your hands to try to muffle your loud laugh. Your laughter fades in the air with time, and you just stay together, cuddling just the way you love. When you think you're about to sleep, Taehyung deep and raspy voice brings you back "I'm tired"
"Me too"
"Let's sleep, sweetheart" your obvious tired voice lullabies Taehyung to a good night of sleep. He can finally sleep well, now that you're here.
His breaths get more quiet and steady and it doesn't take long to his adorable puffs to show up. He's too deep inside his dream to notice you mumble something. Your voice muffled as you groan under him. Wait. Under him? You weren't under him.
"Tae, you're on top of me again. I cant feel my arm, please move back to your side" when he finally gets his consciousness enough to understand what you said, he only manages to open half of his left eye, grumbling something as he does it. "What? I can't understand you" you whisper and tap his shoulder, then he takes his weight from your body relaxing your own, as you massages the arm that was under him.
"Forgive me for turning, I'll sleep on my side" he lazily says as he covers you better and drops a arm on top of you. He's not smashing you anymore, he's gentle, and feels like falling asleep again until he notices the water sounds outside the house. It's raining. No,it's pouring.
He quietly watches the rain before turning back to you "Baby, it's raining" his whisper is the lowest possible. He looks at you when you didn't respond, seeing you sleep so well and comfortably when he's wrapped around you. The rain sweetly putting you to sleep, but not just the rain. Also him, his breath, his voice it's what makes you sleep faster.
You both love this. To sleep like this,it's so good when he's cuddling to the sound of you and rain, -but mostly you- it's how he pictures his perfect night.
Scooting closer to you, he kisses both of your cheek and pecks your lips, then giggle as quiet as possible. " God, you're so beautiful. I love you so much. Thank you for returning home, baby. I couldn't sleep without you" he starts to confess you all his feelings and love, once again. "I can't sleep without you. Every single time you travel makes me realize that i can't live without you" he purrs as he snuggle your body and slowly inhales your scent.
"What did you done to me, huh?" He playfully says and you mumble something in your sleep.
"What have you done to me and why I can't stop loving you?" He mutters to your hair and intertwine your hands.
He honestly doesn't know what you did to him and why does he loves you so much, but he knows he won't stop. Loving you feels good, and he'd do anything, to love you in every life you have.

So I’ve finished reading all of the Vegaspete sections.
General thoughts under cut
TW for discussion of sexual assault, violence, very toxic romance
So it’s definitely interesting to compare to the series.  Obviously I prefer the series, because starting a romance arc with one half the ship violently raping the other isn’t ideal.  Like, I understand the sorta challenge of the thing, and why that might be interesting to some people, but yeah.
The series really substituted torture and physical violence for the sexual violence.  Because there’s not really any real harm to Pete in the book, other than the rape.  Which happens a few times at the very beginning, but as soon as Vegas begins to like Pete at all, that all stops.
Vegas’ POV is honestly really interesting.  It focuses on how just having Pete around and showing him any concern or attention makes him feel better, not full of rage, like he can be himself and drop his masks.  Pete makes him want to be a better person and reminds him of the possibility of joy even among bad things.   So from Vegas’ POV, the transition from violence to love is quite believable.  And reading his parts does give some good insight into his headspace.
But from Pete’s it’s a MESS.  Like the Pete POV is honestly such a misstep IMO, because while Vegas says he thinks Pete is a masochist and is actually enjoying the things Vegas does to him, Pete makes clear he isn’t.  He pretends to go along with things Vegas tells him because he wants him to get bored with him and let him go, and he does come around a little on Vegas once he sees how abused and lonely he is.  But there’s really not a believable transition on Pete’s part.  He leaves after convincing Vegas to unchain him but he goes from spooking when he hears Vegas’ name to suddenly professing his love and devotion when Vegas’ life is in danger in the final showdown.  I think the idea is supposed to be that Pete is in denial of his feelings both as a queer man and for Vegas specifically, but in context it doesn’t work very well.
So yeah, definitely think the choices made in adaptation were very good ones.  Having their sexual contact be initiated by Pete, focusing more on kink than rape (cause it seems like book Vegas is less a dom and more just a serial rapist?), it works much better.  As well as putting that scene where Vegas confronts Pete after he escapes and asks Pete to kill him, that is a strong addition as well.  (In the book he follows Pete around watching him, but only talks to Porsche, not Pete.)
However, it’s nice to read all the stuff after the showdown, with Pete and Macau waiting for Vegas to wake up in the hospital (which is practically its own genre of Vegaspete fic, lol) and also the adoption of Venice.  The ending story about the three of them going back to Pete’s village and meeting his grandparents is really sweet and I’m adopting it into my personal canon.
So I might recommend a vegaspete fan reads just the ending parts and not the whole thing.  Honestly you could probably just skip the first 5 chapters of the Vegaspete stories and miss all the actual rape and get the rest of the story.  Though there are some flashbacks to it and references so I’m not saying it’s SAFE if you have real triggers, but well, it’d be more pleasant.
As for my opinion of the novel based on this, the impressions I’ve gotten, it doesn’t make me want to read the rest.  I really dislike how Porsche comes across in this?  He is like over-the-top offensive in how he talks to everyone and extra super dumb.  In fact everyone comes off as giant idiots most of the time, with the exception of Vegas, and he only has a braincell like 60% of the time.
So no, I’m not very impressed by the writing.  It feels like it leans heavily into the parts of the show I dislike rather than the parts I love.  The people making the show and the actors seem a lot more thoughtful and intelligent on how they approached characters and motivations.  So, yeah.

I am so glad you're feeling better and blogging again. I was honestly feeling so lost without seeing you on my dash. I felt like i didn't know what to watch if i haven't seen you comment on it. I basically haven't watched any BL while you were away because i didn't know what was good without your expertise. So i guess this is me asking you what would you recommend to me/what is it that you've enjoyed in the last couple of months. It could be a show/film/book really anything
I am wishing and hoping your health will continue to improve and you will stop being in pain and that you will find a new balance in your life 🫶
Thank you!💜💜💜 It's good to be semi-back! Endo is still a pain in the uterus and I'm on constantly on my toes waiting for things to get worse again but compared to how hopeless I was mere months ago there has been a lot of improvement. 💜 Once I'm better, I'm definitely gonna take this experience and get into advocacy for gyn diseases!!!!!
I'm also quite behind on what's going on in bl, but I'll list a couple of shows I've liked!
Be My Favourite (Gmmtv) This really exceeded my expectations of which there were none. The time travel plot seemed a bit wacky at first, but it turned out to be a really lovely story about acceptance and regrets. The main couple is cute once you warm up to their mismatched energy and the love triangle for once is done with no misogyny. There's also some really nice stuff about queer self-discovery! It was a kind little show.
Bokura no micro na shuumatsu/The end of the world with you (I watched this on good ol' kissasian because I'm against Viki by principle, but it's on there if you use it)
This is potentially a show that divides opinions but I loooooved it (I also feel like there are some cultural elements that may have been lost on some viewers). Despite the bleak premise (the world is about to end because of a meteor), it's actually a very kind and poignant story about loss and regret (see a pattern here lol it's my favourite trope) and hope most of all. It really hit home for me since I've had such a terrible year. There are quite many explicit scenes so I wouldn't watch this on the bus.
Shows I expect to like but haven't watched yet:
Laws of Attraction (one31 on Youtube) I really liked these guys on the lakorn/soap Khun chai so I'm excited to watch this one. In Khun chai they fought homophobia in the 1940s, now they're fighting injustice in the Thai law system. It's a soap so I expect there to be some dramatic tomfoolery, but that's part of the fun since it's interesting to see queer stories in this generally very heterosexual genre. Also, the hot mom from Never let me go is there.
Dangerous Romance (Gmmtv) The actors are good and the story seems complex enough so I expect to like this even though I have nothing to base my claims on.
Bonus:
Crash landing on you (Netflix) I watched this while I was alone and housebound. At first I felt like there were too many episodes but I was really sad when it ended. Could've done without the comas and sure the portrayal of the north korean military wasn't entirely realistic, but the characters and the story were super engaging and it was interesting to see ordinary north koreans portrayed in such a positive light as people trying to make it in their oppressive system. One of my favourite things I've watched this year for sure!!

i swear some ppl have a pre-existing bias when it comes to cgi, lmao. that scene in nwh looked good and you also have to compare the material here. the things that spider-man is able to do is honestly something that (despite tom's background in stunts) no person can physically do! so of course they have to use cgi. and so much of it really looks great and just fits the genre and type of film that it is. like sorry but i don't know why people are expecting these actors or stunt people to move like spider-man does, it's just not possible and to create a movement like that purely organically, so yes cgi is absolutely necessary. i of course am always down for a spidey movie with less cgi, but that would mean less swinging, less action so that would be more suited for a character study - which i think tom has said he'd love to do too in nwh interviews! also anons are comparing a fictional desert alien planet in a remote area (or a fictional city in batmans case) to the very real and very busy setting of nyc! like can yall not see why practical sets work for some but not for all?
also, i gotta say the nwh fight scenes were honestly incredible. i think that scene with peter and the goblin in the apartment is really a top tier comic book film fight. the combo of tom and willem doing the actual stunts plus the vfx work turned out perfect. watching the bts i am always amazed by the stunt crew on the spidey films, they really are among the best of the best in the business
I agreed with most of your points here Anon, except for a few.
I don't think the Anon/some fans are complaining about the usage of CGI in general for Spider-man... Like I mentioned in my own response yesterday, Marvel wouldn't be able to showcase half of the fantasy worlds and outer space regions like they do in their films if they didn't use CGI. And like you said, the Spider-man films NEED CGI because he's doing stuff that most humans cannot do lol. 😅
With that said, I think Anon was just expressing frustration with the OVER-use of CGI in films today.
I keep bringing this up, but if you go back and watch "Batman: The Dark Knight", for example, you will notice a stark contrast. I think one of the reasons why that movie was so GREAT (aside from the great acting, the awesome writing, and the overall directing of the film) is that it was shot with barely any CGI, so it actually felt like a situation that could occur in REAL life.
Gotham is a fake city, and Batman scales walls also, but the CGI is so much LESS than what we see in most Marvel films.
Christopher Nolan even swears that he did NOT use any CGI in Oppenheimer in order to depict the explosions, and I think that was a deliberate choice.
This just goes to show that some films CAN be made without so much CGI.
Granted, it does make things much easier when you use CGI.... but there's a sense of realism at times when you don't use too much of it.
With that said.....
also, i gotta say the nwh fight scenes were honestly incredible. i think that scene with peter and the goblin in the apartment is really a top tier comic book film fight. the combo of tom and willem doing the actual stunts plus the vfx work turned out perfect. watching the bts i am always amazed by the stunt crew on the spidey films, they really are among the best of the best in the business
I totally agree!! 😃 The Spidey/Goblin fight in NWH was honestly amazing! 👏🏾 I felt every punch! It seems, the fights btwn Spidey and The Green Goblin are always the most raw, vicious, and intense! 😬
I recall the fight btwn Spiderman and the Green Goblin being particularly intense in the original Spiderman franchise as well lol. 🙈
So yea, don't get me wrong, I'm def not against CGI at all! Sometimes, you actually NEED it for many scenes, and it's used in TONS of films (even in areas/scenes that you don't pick up on), but I can see how having too much of it can get a bit old or even annoying.
NWH deserves some grace though, coz we were in a pandemic, and even the original locations for filming for the film went from multiple locations to just ONE: Atlanta. 👀
MANY films had to just film in one location during those covid years due to health and traveling concerns for the cast, crew, etc.
One thing I'd love to see (that I usually saw in Tobey's Franchise) is the heart of New York City and the PEOPLE in it in the film. To me, that really helps to set the tone and setting for the film.
For some reason, with Tom's Spiderman, they seem to have made the City take a back seat. 🥴
Maybe they will always film mostly in Atlanta. 🤷🏾‍♀️ But I do miss seeing the actual CITY of New York (and not just CGI or sets) in the Spiderman films. 😔

What are your personal opinion about queerbaiting in anime/manga? Sorry for the random ask...It's just that most of my otps are of 2 male anime/manga characters that describes as bff/ rivals/ enemies that don't have any romantic relationships.....Even after I watched/read BL anime/manga, I still ship more of them that canonly are not a couple....Is that weird?
First of all, it's fandom! Be weird, that's practically what it's for! But I think this is pretty common actually. I know I certainly relate to it.
(I apologize in advance for how little anime I'm going to specifically mention here; Moriarty the Patriot is really my biggest foray back into the genre after a like 8-10 year break from being an otaku. I'm still catching up lol.)
I define queerbaiting (and I think this IS the definition) as a situation where the creators of a piece of fiction have realized that their media is appealing to queer people, and have decided to capitalize on that interest without any intention of actually letting a queer story happen. So, Destiel for example is 100% queerbaiting: (many of) the writers dragged that out very intentionally while also being disdainful of and seemingly grossed out by their queer audience. They just wanted to see how much money they could milk from it.
On the far opposite side is something like Our Flag Means Death, which is like a love letter to queer audiences and has queer people on the creative team and is just generally a joy.
In between, you have things like Good Omens or Hannibal, that maybe weren't setting out to be queer stories, but embraced the love from that community and allowed that element to grow within the series. The anecdotal story about Hannibal; that Bryan Fuller as a gay man was actually setting out to explore straight male friendships that he didn't feel like he could entirely access himself, only to have the chemistry between the leads shift the story, is something I really love (regardless of whether it's entirely true.) THAT is the kind of romance story-telling I want to see; something organic played out between writers and actors and audience. A living thing, rather than a set-in-stone script.
So, bringing that back to anime/manga, and using the series I'm most obsessed with, I think SherLiam is a bit of that. They've been very clearly fitting into romance tropes right from the get-go, but I also would not be surprised at all if our Senseis were responding to positive feedback from fans as they keep letting it get gayer and gayer. Though I have zero expectations of the words "I love you" or of an on-page kiss (and frankly I like what we have gotten better), nothing about it feels like a loveless manipulative money-grab. It feels like, "we like this, the fans like this, so we're gonna let it be as much a romance as it can be within the confines of the magazine it's published in."
In a more general way though, I totally agree with shipping not-quite canon couples above couples in things that are strictly romances, whether straight or gay. If you're watching a romantic movie or reading a BL manga, the ending is a foregone conclusion. You know they're gonna get together. And quite often sex is brought in very early.
Personally, I prefer a genuine will they/won't they. I like not knowing. And I like a couple to get really deeply emotionally intimate before sex factors in. So slowburns and things that never really become canon, or become canon right at the end, really work for me. There's always fanfiction if things aren't resolved the way we want, and in the meantime I can enjoy seeing a pair truly get to know each other in a way that most couples who only get an hour and a half of screentime or a few episodes just don't. I'll take 100 chapters of pining with no resolution over a couple hopping in bed after 45 minutes on screen.
