I have a theory. What if people who hate Theo the most and constantly remind him of that are those who are scared of their darker side more than others, and who did bad things in the past too (unconsciously or not).
Like Stiles HATES Theo, so does Malia. He reminded them of what they did, and what they STILL can do. How easy it is to lean to this darkness they hold within and they DESPISE him for that. Because it’s not about broken trust, it’s about breaking some sort of reassurance within them that they’re good.
Mason doesn’t like him too, he reminds him about it so often, but he is also scared of Theo, not because he is human, but because he turned everyone in the pack inside out, and he, even though not really, did bad things as the Beast, and is scared of going back to THAT.
Maybe I’m wrong, and it’s only the fact that he broke the pack apart, but I don’t think so. Because not everyone hates Theo THAT much, and it needs to be something really personal.

I know Wylan saying "always hit where the mark isn't looking" in Crooked Kingdom is supposed to be a humorous nod to his "who's Mark?" line in Six of Crows but I can't help but think of it as a representation of an overlooked facet of his character development.
What I find the fandom forgets is that he's ultimately the least experienced of the Crows and the one who, let's be honest, is the least cut out to be a criminal. It has nothing to do with him being soft or whimpy (I want to unleash my inner Dirtyhands every time I hear someone say that), it's simply because he spent most of his life sheltered from the brutality of the Barrel. Yes, his household was abusive, but "he’d never had to work for anything. He’d had servants, hot meals, clean clothes. Whatever it took to survive the Barrel, Wylan knew he didn’t have it" - and he spent a total of three months in the Barrel prior to the events of Six of Crows. Had he not started doing demo for the Dregs, he would have definitely died in the Barrel - especially considering how he clings to his decency and morality because it's all he's got left, but they won't get him very far in a place like the Barrel.
Due to his inexperience, as Leigh puts it in the Crooked Kingdom collector's edition, he "wasn't a Crow yet" in book one: he wasn't accustomed to Barrel life, let alone the life of a criminal. (It also references how he learns to trust his crew and is now a part of them not out of desperation, but out of a bond beyond blood, but that's for another time.) Going from not understanding what "[hitting] the mark" means because he's autistic to, as Jesper puts it, "[being] thoroughly corrupted" signifies how he's finally started becoming accustomed to a life he's never had to lead before.

One thing I’m salty af about is that despite Oak saying the Folk adore Cardan and are terrified of Jude and Oriana saying that his sister cultivates both love and fear, the adoring part and the positive feelings weren’t really shown.
Save for Oak himself, all the other characters that mention them don’t seem to take them particularly seriously, they are always varying degrees of disdainful and condescending. Queen Annet referred to Jude as “that sister of yours” as if she was talking about some peasant instead of the High Queen. Cardan is being called a coward left and right either outright or in roundabout ways and when he told these faeries to leave when the ordeal with Garrett happened a few blissfully ignored the king’s order. First thing Madoc says to Oak as soon as his daughter the queen™️ unbanishes him? “If you had a powerful queen, it would be more possible to support you against the current occupants of the thrones. Let’s start scheming, just for kicks ~rubs hands conspiratorially~”. Unpopular opinion I guess, but I wish he stayed fucking exiled.
Like, outside the royal family and the Court of Shadows, only three characters seem to respect and acknowledge them in a positive light: Lord Roiben, Lord Severin and Grima Mog. And despite knowing better, I’m still pissed at how many Folk are assholes like that. It would be nice to see someone saying “yeah, they’re good rulers, they made improvements, this thing is better than it was when Eldred was king” for a change.
But I’m glad that at least when the fae are dicks to their faces, Jude and Cardan put them in their places with intimidation and clever phrasings. They are menacing, after all, but way too many people are still taking liberties as if they aren’t that important. Also, I took the “mortal concubine” personally and am glad that Valen dude was found hanged lmaooo.

have we talked abou the difference between the way nace holds his own face and the way jan holds it yet?

thinking about how gentle jan's hand is even though he's covering nace's mouth. the way nace's hands distort his face and his eyes and he looks in distress. but jan avoids nace's eyes. and nace is looking at him like that.

something i like about learning languages is i feel it allows me to better express myself, even if i’m only writing for me. if i’m writing a song and i feel like i’m laying myself too bare it helps me to switch language even just for a line or two cos it gives me a degree of separation and helps me stop judging myself so harshly

Okay so I’m crying again cos that seems to be all I do
I saw an edit on my instagram and it reminded me of lev and had to then go to Disney to rewatch the scenes of Lev to connect dots
You know the drill walk with me-
I think Eddie is gonna so be in danger/trapped in the finale and some form of big buddie scene will happen and I think this because of this scene
Why this scene when it relates so heavily to just buck and Eddie never even interacts with Lev? I’m glad you (haven’t) asked
It’s cos of some things lev says relating so much to Eddie
“You live your whole life doing everything you’re supposed to, marriage, kids…weekends at the shore…work and family… never enough time, until one day work stops and it all comes into focus”
I don’t need to explain how that first part about doing everything you’re supposed to is so painfully Eddie
Weekends at the shore -hmm who did they make a point of showing at the beach with Chris recently??? Oh that’s right Eddie
Never enough time- EDDIES TIME METAPHOR LATELY WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK
My theory sounds far reached? Okay but how do you explain the fact that this is paired with the fact that lev died cos he was crushed by rubble and the pictures for the finale have buck with his patent “Eddie’s in danger” face while it seems like he’s looking through rubble???

A very long overdue analysis on the two big loser knights and how the relationship between them is something that developed majorly over time.
Understandable that Clay and Lance’s friendship wasn’t really that understood in the very first episodes of the series, considering from first glance they just seem like the duo that hate eachother.
(honestly I completely thought they hated eachother when I was like 9/10 which is when I first watched it ..) but looking into their relationship more you realise that they don’t HATE eachother, they just hate their contradictory opinions and ideas.
They’re polar opposites when it comes to character, Lance doesn’t give any care about anything really, and Clay cares too much about everything. considering the way they grew up makes quite the impact on this as well. With one barely having anyone take care of them and the other barely getting any sort of attention from their family.
The way they care about eachother is probably the way they stick out the most. It’s like they care for eachother in a way, but expressing it is harder for one compared to the other. What I mean is, they both have these flaws about them which makes them so.. interesting.
I absolutely love s3, and the way it shows their development from s2 -> s3 says a lot. (even from s1 -> s2 you can see a slight difference in their development too.) but s3 really sticks out because it’s just those parts where they’re just being absolute idiots together. (especially with the bizarre addition of clay and the wet floor sign.. idk what he was doing there.)
When it comes to s1 and specifically ep4 the way Lance goes about the whole thing with Clay being upset over losing the knights code. (idk if it was a whole team thing deciding to get it digitalised for him so I can’t really say anything about that..)
I like the random thought of Lance actually reading the knights code and quoting it in s4, I thought that was really sweet considering how much he takes the absolute piss out of it. (Also I before I forget to mention Lance usually referring to Clay with different nicknames such as super knight is really silly, idk why.)
The way they didn’t really agree on anything, and yet still made their friendship work is something I truly love about them. (**another thing before I forget, Lance suggesting they should split up and find clay in ep5 is something that is just.. uausgsb..)
Also in ep17 when Clay joined in with being a complete IDIOT, because Lance was pulling the faces at him is so real.. they care for eachother sm in every way but don’t know how to express it..
s3 and Lance worrying about Clay ALOT was so silly, he was constantly worrying about if he was actually going to be okay for their missions (especially in rotten luck) . also with ep27 and taking the piss out of eachother, (especially with their art knowledge..)
I love them sm.. and I don’t think I could NOT overanalyse their relationship as much as I do usually.
Tumblr media
I need to stop with the lego gays.. they’re taking over always.. and there’s nothing I can do about it.

Alright folks. This is something I've wanted to talk about for a while now, but just now I decided to actually write it all down and hopefully make sense of myself.
Long ass ramble about BATIM and some lore from official books.
So far I've got my hands on two Bendy books, that is The Illusion of Living and Dreams come to life (I also have the Employee's Handbook but that one isn't lore important). I plan on getting the rest of the book in the future but let's look at these two for now.
The Illusion of Living is Joey Drew's memoir, written all by himself. In this book we get to know quite a lot about Joey, more or less his whole life.
We get to know that he comes from a family of shoe makers, that he lied about his age at 13 so he could join the war. Or that he likes to dress and look fancy long time before he actually is fancy, just because it makes him feel better and gives the illusion that he's someone important. We even get to know that he once joined a Detective when he was investigating murder. And that he can appreciate good art while also drawing slightly himself.
What I want to look deeper into though, is the way he and Henry met. Thanks to the game (and even fandom), most people assume they were best friends for a long time. That they would go to hell and back for each other. But that wasn't actually the case??
Joey and Henry met through a mutual friend, Abby Lambert, and he actually didn't like Henry at first. Joey didn't like the cartoon artstyle, which is what Henry mainly drew. So they didn't have anything in common.
That was until Joey got the idea for Joey Drew studios, and asked Abby for help to come up with the main character, since she could draw better than Joey. Well, Abby tried, but it didn't end up as they wanted. And then Abby took Henry for help and went to Joey together, and let me tell you, Joey actually wasn't really thrilled for Henry to come with her.
But, after a few tries, Henry was able to come up with the right design for Bendy. Joey and Henry decided to work together after that, but Henry left the studio not that long after. It's said that Abby started to work in the studio three years later, but it's also said that Abby and Henry never ended up working together. And Joey didn't really seem to care for Henry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He acknowledges him, but isn't mad at him.
It's just so interesting, why is Joey so angry at Henry in game, if he didn't seem to actually care about him in the book? Could've been a mistake from the writer, or I don't know.
This is just something I've wanted to point out for a while, and I'm super open to starting a conversation with someone about this!
Now let's look at Dreams comes to life
This book is written from the point of view of Daniel Lewek, also known as 'Buddy', who is also the character that ends up being the Boris we all know and love in game.
I love how this book is written, since it's written after Buddy is corrupted by the ink, and he's slowly forgetting all of this, so he's writing it down so there's something left. So the truth is known.
Buddy is hired by Joey to be a delivery boy after a quick meeting when he's delivering him a new suit, but later gets promoted to an artist after Abby Lambert (who is now in the head of the Art Department) sees a drawing that Buddy's grampa actually did, but Buddy ends up lying, since being an animator is something he actually wants to do.
Buddy befriends Dot, who works in the Story telling Department, and she's a really noisy and sneaky character.
Now, something I think is interesting is that, Sammy Lawrence is probably the first character to get corrupted by the Ink machine. Buddy's first meeting with him actually traumatises him slightly, because Sammy jumps at him covered in ink after a pump bursts right above him. Throughout the book, Sammy is depicted to be really interested in ink, while also drinking some from the ink bottles.
Then Buddy has the luck to meet the Ink Demon himself, accidentally even letting him out from the room he was locked in.
And then, Sammy goes missing. That's when even Dot has the pleasure of meeting the Ink Demon, since she and Buddy went to the studio when it was shut down to see what other weird stuff they can find.
When we meet Sammy again, he's already The Prophet that we've seen in the game. And he even already made some sacrifices, Buddy and Dot (and Richie, Buddy's animation coworker) were meant to be part of them too but they were lucky enough to escape. But Buddy's coworker, Jacob, didn't. And when Buddy and Dot find him attached to the Ink machine cowered in ink (they are able to save him actually), they also find already dead bodies of Dave (another Buddy's coworker) and Norman Polk ("Of course no one would notice he was missing. Of everyone in the building. He watched everyone, but no one really saw him" – I'm sorry I had to add this, I absolutely love it)
Dot and Buddy end up having a small fight with the Ink Demon until they get rid of him. Or so they thought, because he ends up grabbing Buddy and pulling him into the ink with him.
When Buddy wakes up after, he's already in the body of Boris. Joey Drew standing above him, absolutely thrilled that they got a perfect cartoon after such a fail with Bendy.
Even if Dreams comes to life was mainly focused on Buddy, it feels like we've got so much lore for all the other characters. Joey shows how much of an asshole he can actually be. Norman shows up a few times, always unannounced and with some information no one else except him knows. Sammy and his grumpy ass that was slowly getting corrupted by ink. Hell, we even got Tom and Joey argument about the Ink machine (and Allison was with Tom!! Holding his hand!!).
These books are really worth reading, and I'm excited when I finally get my hands on the rest of the books.
Alas, that is the end of my ramble. If anyone read it all, here's a cookie for you 🍪
And I'm also super open to have a conversation with anyone about all of this!!

How to write Main Character: Make them feel unique, make them feel different but also familiar. Like you can see them everywhere at the same time nowhere
Or we can go the easy road and make one with God complex
I feel like ppl don't really make good main characters anymore. They feel the same these days
Ehhh???
Honestly, people do make good main characters, you just have to look. Usually easier to find in non-YA novels, in my experience. They tend to feel more like fleshed-out *people* with their own life-experience than vessels for the reader to insert themselves into,
Which, ironically enough, makes it easier for me to relate to them, even if we are otherwise very different people. If you make your character a person, then inevitably, some of those experiences line up.
If anything, trying to walk that tightrope of having your character just "unique" enough to be interesting while still "relatable" enough as to appeal to as many people as possible is where things can get muddy and you end up failing either way.
I think it tends to affect some genres more than others, but at the end of the day... It really isn't as bad of an issue as people make it out to be. Like, yeah. Mediocre literature exists. Things tend to be mid more than they are especially good or bad.
And I think that's fine.
Plus, tastes vary. There's no doubt alot of stuff I love that people will look at and say is subpar. There is no objective way of looking at fiction-- We all come in with our own biases.
I'm going offtopic. Hope the first half of this reply made sense. Apologies if I've completely misunderstood your point.
I dunno, I just hear these complaints, and it makes me think of alot of those shitty writing guides that I used to eat up (often made by amateur writers themselves), which were very insistent on finding the "right" way to write and ruthlessly mocking anything "bad."
I don't think that's what you were going for, at all, but I still think it's very generalising, and I'm not sure what to make of it?

Why I think the beginning of this scene is extremely important to Sebastian’s redemption arc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• scene from ‘Glee, Season 3, Episode 14, ‘On My Way’, timestamp: 17:44’.
Tell me, when you look the above images, what is it that you see?
Most people will recognise the photo for what it is when presented to us amongst the cluster of the rest of the episode, the opening cut to Sebastian’s very ‘rushed’ character development segment, which starts out with him writing school notes/doing homework, drinking a coffee, and waiting for Brittany, Santana, Kurt and Blaine to show up for their scheduled chat. On a surface level, that’s exactly what this scene is, nothing less, but maybe something more.
I’m going to elaborate on why I think this section sets the correct tone for the upcoming scene, and how I feel it makes Sebastian seem a lot more genuine than he is shown to be in prior episodes.
1) Teenager or Adult:
One thing I think Glee truly struggled with, even throughout its earlier seasons, was the mismatched attempts at making the age of their characters believable. Between seasons 1-3, their youngest teenaged individuals were 14/15 (Artie and Tina in S1), and their eldest were 18 (the graduates of S3), your typical high schooler age range. However, throughout the filming of S1, many of the actors portraying our favourite glee kids were actually in their late 20s (for example Cory Monteith was 27 as he played 16 year old Finn Hudson). This concept wasn’t new to TV at the time, many shows even to this day use young adults to play their spritely teenagers, and while it may fix a lot of issues behind the camera (legal working hours, maturity levels, contract signings and professionalism), this can cause a few show-based misdemeanours for the audience.
While watching from afar as fans discuss characters wrongdoings, I’ve come to notice that a lot of people overestimate the actions of each character based upon their ‘ages’. It’s easy to forget that Quinn and Puck were only sixteen years old in season one, when they’re portrayed by 23 year old Dianna, and 26 year old Mark. Psychologically, it is much easier to be angrier at somebody you perceive to be in their twenties as the age is often used as a scapegoat (“they’re 21 years old, they should know better), especially in comparison to that of a sophomore. I mostly see this sort of misinterpretation in characters with more faults than strengths, so for example Santana, Puck, Rachel, and yes, Sebastian. If we take into consideration that throughout season three Sebastian would’ve been 16, if only just 17 at the latest, this should add a layer of understanding to his maturity levels, especially when considering his upbringing? But again, as a flawed character being played by the 21/22 year old Grant Gustin, I think that subconsciously this gives people a reason, or even an excuse, to discard this segment of his redemption, as I often see it does with other characters.
“He’s sneaky, he’s manipulating them, he’s irredeemable”, what he is, is a spoiled teenager with a brain that literally isn’t, and won’t be for years to come, fully developed. Whenever I flip this argument on somebody and say “are you irredeemable for the stupid decisions you made as an emotionally confused sixteen year old?” And to that, it’s always: “it’s different for Sebastian, he’s evil and should know better.”
No it’s not different. Sebastian should be held accountable for his behaviour, I’d never dispute that, but do that, and only that. Don’t force a false vindictive narrative onto a character because you dislike them, and especially don’t set up a double standard when it comes to actual facts. He’s a teenager, a minor, a spoiled little brat who did need his ass handed to him for lack of a better phrase, but a child no less. Treat his wrongdoings as such, hold the accountability, but don’t force evil intentions when they aren’t there because you think it’ll be held, allow him room and a chance to grow up. Everyone, especially teenagers, is entitled to that.
Tumblr media
- Redditor comment from the glee subreddit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- a more in depth version of my teenaged vs adult argument, written by myself on a Reddit comment.
2) How this timestamp rectifies this:
I find that this timestamp helps put into perspective Sebastian’s age, and as a result, his maturity levels and mentality (or lack there of…). I know that in the US uniforms aren’t a common practice unless it’s for a prep or private school, but I genuinely think the use of the Dalton blazer adds to the legitimacy of the canon ages of the character. I tend to associate a uniform with a high school, especially the stereotypical blazer, tie, shirt and nice shoes, this works for the unholy trinity and the footballers in their letterman jackets and cheerleading outfits too. It really sets the tone that these are high schoolers, aged 14-18 year old kids who are going to make really stupid decisions sometimes, keeping in mind the emotional turmoil that comes from puberty and hormonal changes around these ages too.
Now this next point is the one that scratches my brain itch. Sebastian 👏 is 👏 doing 👏 homework 👏. We hardly ever see any of the kids in glee doing homework, or anything school related unless it sets up for a song (in a classroom). I know people don’t tend to look at it this way but even just the principle of Sebastian doing his school work sets such a realistic tone for who actually is. A teenager. He’ll sign his name at the top of that piece of work like any other student, he’ll hand it in to get feedback like the rest of his class, he’ll anxiously await to receive his weekly grade, much like any other teenager would, when it arrives he’ll either be pleased or disheartened, and he’ll discuss it with his friends. The simple idea of him doing something completely unrelated to sabotaging the NDs, even if it’s just as simple as a bit of homework or finishing up a phone call, really sets apart that this is a person, not a monster. He has a life outside of hurting your favourites. I adore how much this puts into perspective that underneath the layers people associate with him, rightly or wrongly, he’s still a 16/17 year old boy, both recognising his age and his maturity level along with it.
3) Video essay:
Audio clip: https://youtu.be/hhYQBudh0vc : timestamp: 8:41.
That’s all I really had to say, definitely not as in depth as my very first analysis post, but this is one of my favourite details about our lovely meerkat no less. This can really be applied to a lot of your high school faves from glee, mainly Quinn, Puck, even Artie to an extent off of the top of my head. It gets a little trickier to defended when the behaviour continues as they grow up and still act this way in a professional work place and/or college (not naming any names, but I’m thinking them-), but beforehand, I’m not going to have anybody try and wipe away Sebastian’s redemption for the price of nothing, and these are just the aspects I think help set the tone for who he truly is, not who he’s painted himself to be in the eyes of an audience.

okay i must really be running out of things to overanalyse now that this catches my eye while im skipping through the episode on mute but this exchange:
MISSY: It's passed on through the bloodline. Usually the lynchpin goes on to lead a normal life, have their own family, and the link is passed down through the generations. DOCTOR: But the Monks must have worked that out. They've been doing this for millennia. MISSY: Why? If the link is passed on, the Monks stay in charge, through, they think, their ruthlessness and efficiency. But if the lynchpin dies and the link isn't passed on, and the Monks get booted off the planet, well, they just chalk it up to experience.
not sure why but i think it's interesting. how this sort of... accidental success? is so self-evident to the master and it seems almost entirely invisible to the doctor. feels a little like survivorship bias?
idk something something the doctor "basically the definition of impossible" & "lost causes are my speciality" full of survivorship bias vs the master who ends almost all of their altercations in death
the doctor "but i do it brilliantly" vs the master who spends half a century planning and preparing for every time they meet

Let's talk about Erik
So something has been nagging my mind lately about Erik.
As we know Erik has so little screentime and that created an alluring character that I applaude the writers for. But despite this fact that we know so little about him, he is still popular in the YR fandom and for a good reason.
For instance, he is the only person that Wilhelm seemed to be comfortable around and could actually talk to, and he was supportive when Wilhelm tried telling him about Simon (I understood that he used gender-neutral terms). All of that makes him a good brother yeah for sure.
But on the other side, Erik is August's friend.
"Birds of a feather flock together."
And that begs the question, is Erik actually a good person?
Well we actually don't know that and we can't take it for granted either, let's see why. Here is my speculation.
August is not just a simple second cousin to Erik. Although their interactions were limited and we can't clearly tell the extent of their friendship but the fact that Erik trusted August so much and he kept telling Wilhelm that he too should trust him because he is "family", is very confusing to me.
Firstly, I don't think Erik would use this term "family" so loosely because it is not like Wilhelm felt necessarily a sense of family within the walls of the Royal Palace. But Wilhelm felt a sense of family with Erik. So basically, Erik was insinuating that August is like him. So August is like Erik?
It is hard to believe that Erik was a bully, classist, racist and straight up an asshole.
Well let's break it down further. It seemed that it was a common practice for August and for the Society (the elite club that Erik was formerly a member of) to break the rules whether by sneaking in drinks or drugs or by simply abusing their power to get what they want and enjoy their privilege in general.
And as we know also that Erik is the older than August so did he approve of these practices? These practices that resulted in August being an addict and probably Erik too (a popular theory says that Erik might have been on drugs when he had his accident, but we are not sure whether it was an attempted suicide or he was just being careless). Either way, Erik didn't seem to mind August or the activities the Society were indulged in.
Erik is -thank god- not homophobic and by the way I don't think August is either (yeah his internalised homophobia will eat him up alive but still Nils and Vincent are both in a relationship and they are both close to August but I digress), on the other hand Erik might be a classist and maybe a bully too just like like a typical Society member.
I didn't necessarily make this post to bash Erik, it is not my point. My point is Erik was as stressed, as clueless and as desperate to live a normal life just like Wilhelm. But he couldn't. And maybe his mechanism for a while is to go with the flow and live the elite life like everyone else, which unfortunately sometimes comes with a cost of classism and prejudice.
We can't know what Erik was like for sure, but we know that at least he was a good brother and we will always stan him for that. But the story of him and August being friends will be left for interpretations and will always add a layer to a character that captivated many with just 3 mins of screentime lol XD.
And that my friends is the beauty of Young Royals.
