Happy Birthday Eden Tobisa!

Turns out our favorite clock girly has her birthday on New Year's Eve! What a nice date for such a nice girl! Let's do a character analysis, fun facts, and songs!

-We know relatively little about Eden's backstory. The most notable thing we know about her life before the killing game, apart from her fascination with clocks, is what is revealed in her chapter 2 secret: "Ever since you kissed her, you were afraid your sexuality would ruin your friendships." Which is pretty straightforward; she's canonically a lesbian and is worried it would negatively affect her friendships.

-Literally the only other thing we know about her backstory is that she lived in Japan for a small period of time when she was younger, before moving back to the US. This was revealed in a Q&A.

(... You know, I made a deranged theory in my Mai post that maybe the girl that Eden kissed was actually Mai. It wasn't very serious, since it was just a silly way to try to explain what the hell Eden's quote in the Mai page could mean. But... we know Teruko was in Japan for a while when she was younger, and it's theorized she knew Mai before being separated from her at some point. Combined with Mai's name being seemingly Japanese, it could imply Mai also lived in Japan at some point. And if that's the case, it's possible she met Eden there? To be clear, that's still an insane possibility, but I do find it a funny possibility, which is why I'm sharing it)

-Apart from that, Eden's defining trait is her optimism and her trust in others. She sticks to Teruko's side even after she starts pushing everyone away in CH 1, and confesses to her that she believes "not caring about others is the worst way to live." She's importantly not naive, she does know their situation is horrible, but still she constantly searches for an exit and tries to build good friendships with the others.

-This includes baking with Min, Rose and Teruko in CH1, inviting Teruko and Arei to make clocks on CH2, etc. Basically, she's awesome and nice and mature.

-Also she loves clocks. Regular Ultimate stuff, she can apparently spend hours and hours working and losing track of time.

-Although for such an optimistic character, her secret quote is quite ominous. "You can't go back, no matter how hard you try." We have zero clue what this means at the moment, but at least it does fit the symbolism of time always moving forward.

-Meanwhile, her quote in the Mai page is "She kept calling the number, even though no one picked it up." This is even more incomprehensible! Eden, what in the world are you talking about?

-Alright, David MV. She doesn't have a color in Color Theory, but her numeral is XII (twelve). Go to 1:48:28 in this video for an explanation. God it's so convenient to have that lol.

Alright fun facts!

-As stated, her birthday (December 31st) lands on New Year's Eve. Maybe representing new beginnings or change, which certainly goes well with her character. How nice!

-Like most of the cast, she's American and right-handed.

-She's one of the only characters with dyed hair. Her hair was originally just brown.

-Her favorite color is daffodil yellow, because it's happy, and her least favorite color is blue, because it's "kind of a downer color." Areden shippers in shambles.

-Her favorite ice cream flavor is honeycomb. I didn't even know that existed but go off queen.

-She enjoys cute fashion, but also enjoys wearing androgynous style clothing.

-She likes food which is fun to make or prepare. How nice!

-She's biracial; her mother is black and her father is Japanese. This is why she spent a bit of time in Japan when she was younger.

-Her name in kanji is 飛佐【とび・さ】楽【いーでん】. Gonna leave any actual meaning as homework, but it's worth noting her name was anglicized. I think that would translate to "Iden", but her mother liked the name "Eden", so they went with that instead.

I have rewatched the mean lesbians episode in hopes I would like them more the second time, but I'm afraid I'm still not vibing with it. Credit that they tried to undercut the "lesbians who drop in to give our main couple therapy" with the whole reveal it was game and Mary's little rant about their relationship "losing the magic", but like... did they really? Do Anne and Mary not successfully tee up the really touching BlackBonnet airing of grievances and reconciliation? Laughing at them a bit for being dorky doesn't change that they really didn't do much sabotaging, overall, so it's not like they weren't pushing them back together.

I mean, even Mary's whole rant happens after Anne leaves the room. By the time they really start telling us how this couple has their own foundation cracks and issues (vs the veneer of just keeping it interesting) and aren't a longstanding example of a healthy relationship, Anne is literally offscreen making a grand romantic gesture that will solve Mary's discontent. I know they are fitting a miscommunication arc into half an episode instead of 2-3 seasons, but the end result just feels like speedrunning a knock off of BlackBonnet's issues.

And that along with the fact they function as BlackBonnet mirrors first and characters second, it all just feels very... underwhelming (?) to me.

Like why do I care about Anne and Mary? Is the face stealing gimmick supposed to have hooked me? They also, imo, really fucked up by ending on a hug - it just spotlights the fact that, for all the sex jokes, they don't really bother to sell physical intimacy between the two. They maybe bump shoulders at the shop, sit in separate chairs in every scene in the house... honestly the best they do is the offscreen knife flicking. Which funny metaphor but like. Why can't the lesbians be into each other without the metaphor? Or am I supposed to think that Anne "burn the whole house down the second her wife admits she doesn't like swamp life" Bonny didn't pick up that Mary was maybe unhappy when they entirely stopped touching each other and replaced it with murder attempts.

Even a repeat of the offscreen joke but this time imply they are hardcore making out as Stede and Edward slip away would have probably hit better? (I'm assuming for some reason kissing was off the table, otherwise even more wtf why not just kiss?)

(Can you tell I've been thinking about the sorry state of femslash?)

Also I'd be remiss not to tie my dissatisfaction with Anne and Mary to my dissatisfaction with OFMD's prevailing approach to female characters. Spanish Jackie's entire thing is being so awesome and desirable that she has 20 husbands that all work for her, which is super fun. Mary Bonnet became a widowed girlboss with a Doug, which was also fun. Then suddenly we're meeting Zheng Yi Sao who is a girlboss Pirate Queen better than any man, and her right-hand woman that seems like a more stable and competent Edward/Izzy parallel, and her crew of only hyper-competent women... do you see how this is getting a bit repetitive?

Now we add Anne and Mary speedrunning BlackBonnet parallels to teach them a grand gesture romantic lesson? So... doing Stede and Edward but Better™?

Zheng Yi Sao still has time to get more interiority that could offset the whole "girlboss" gimmick which would help, but until that happens the only real female character standout to me is Archie - a woman who has something deeply wrong with her but has so far just kind of slotted in as a equal crewmember instead of the Competent Woman Character.

SHORT ANSWER: Seeing their favorite nonbinary character kiss girls makes a nonbinary lesbian happy!!!

LONG ANSWER: The #medpoc_girlkissing_collection tag has everything to do with being a nonbinary lesbian, actually. More ramblings under cut. Long post ahead.

Imagine a nonbinary lesbian who repressed most of their tendencies throughout their childhood and teenhood. They live in a homophobic misogynist religious country and grew up surrounded by queer people who like men so they thought that they have to tone down their interest and passion towards women. It doesn't help that sapphic, let alone trixic representation and media were scarce or not taken seriously by the fandom.

That nonbinary lesbian thought of their lesbianism as filthy, predatory, and something to grow out of. It was not something to be proud of. It was not something to talk about. It was not something to make art with. It was something to be ashamed of.

That nonbinary dyke is almost 18. They found. Something. A game. With lots of girls in it. And sapphic subtext that you could barely call subtext anymore. It has women pining for one another, it has women who present themselves in a more masculine way and is illustrated to have sapphic relations, it has people of color, it has a NONBINARY CHARACTER (wow), and not only that, but the creators clearly put a lot of love into this game. You don't see this shit often??? And it??? Means a lot to me??? A game where sapphic relationships are even a pretty strong plot point in the game???

Okay, so let's get back to how there's a nonbinary character, right? Now let's look at the nonbinary lesbian again. What is that? Transneutral tendencies? The longing to be sexless? Okay. Let's look at the nonbinary character — said to have no reproductive organs. [THE CROWD CHEERS].

"Oh wow I want to be them," said the nonbinary lesbian, "I can make them lesbian."

[ THAT CHARACTER IS NOT A LESBIAN. AND LIKELY NEVER WILL BE IN CANON. ]

That statement is true. But here's the thing with the game... This is a gacha game, you can essentially play with these characters like dolls. Reality can be anything you want. Seeing the amount of subtext + text sapphic relationships in this game is like a "permission" to go lesbian overdrive and — make that enby kiss girls. Lots of them. And be freaky about it. To make ME happy.

The fandom certainly won't make them kiss girls but nobody can stop me and the repressed lesbianism throughout my teenhood. This character is weird, sometimes pathetic, but confident and owns up to their action. They want to pave their own path and that is such a positive influence for this was-ashamed-of-her-attraction-and-afraid-of-being-cringe dyke. They're a perfect candidate to project my version of queerness on. It also helps that they don't have a canon race (haha asian beam) and how we have a similar voice!!!

DRAWING THEM KISSING GIRLS IS SO AFFIRMING AND FUN!!! IT MAKES THIS NONBINARY DYKE HAPPY!!! DRAWING IT A LOT OF TIMES MAKES ME EVEN HAPPIER!!! ♡ I can do whatever I want. I own the place. And oh, if it isn't thrilling to see how much dyke bullshit I repressed over the course of years spill out spontaneously to this fucking game LMAO!!! It's euphoric, it's fun, it's weird, and it helps me mend my relationship with being a nonbinary lesbian ♡

So yeah. You can see that tag as a ritual for me to cope with being a nonbinary lesbian with the help of this awesome game. But it's also more like a celebration of my queerness and expression, in my own weird way. It makes me proud? Yeah. Yeah it does.

Scripted Marriage: Start! - Caught Up in a Love Trap! - By Nica Katabeppu (7.5/10)

You have to be really ruthless to make it in showbiz. I'm happy to report that nobody is innocent here. The victim who gets "trapped" is a little dumb and spoiled, but that doesn’t mean he's sweet. Some of the commentary about how acting, as a career, can damage you is surprisingly nuanced.

Wealth brings drama, and our two main characters are both rich boys. Both of their mothers are successful, single actresses...in a codependent relationship.

Hmm.

Mitsuru is the yandere, and he's been a snake since he was born. His mother ruthlessly hunted the lovely Reiko, and now he's obsessed with her son. It's a multi-generational obsession.

Mitsuru learns that love isn't a simple thing. His mother...is a woman. She faced alot of judgement for loving Reiko. Japan wasn't ready for a lesbian power couple back then. Reiko actually didn't want to be with Tomoka. She ran off to marry a rich guy...and Tomoka played mind games with her until she gave up on men.

That's...dark...

Poor Ren.

He's a cute kid.

He's got a rich mom.

His life is easy...but not really. His mom isn't just a businesswoman. She's very talented, and Ren...isn't. He's average and he's horny. He uses his rich boy heir card to sleep with girls, and he acts on TV sometimes solely because he is his mothers son.

His inferiority complex is...huge....

The really fucked up thing is...Ren didn't know he was on an unhappy path. He didn't know he wasn't having fun. He thought money and girls were both awesome when he was a teenager, but then that wears off.

His mom isn't proud of him.

He hasn't achieved anything.

He's never been in a loving relationship.

He doesn't even seem to have any friends, because it's hard to relate to a spoiled brat.

It's kinda...harsh.

His mom literally gives up on him.

She "gives" her pretty son to Mitsuru, because he clearly can't make it on his own. Ren thinks it's a fake marriage. Everybody else knows it's real. Yes. His mom is in on it.

I know Ren really is irresponsible. He hooks up with idols for kicks, which puts their careers in danger. It pisses off fans. It makes directors reluctant to hire him, because of the scandals around him.

Soon, it's clear that he'll never have a career.

He can only be a rich househusband.

Tomoka and Mitsuru both think his helpless nature is adorable...but ya boi is depressed. He compares himself to his successful mom all the time. He sleeps around because he's lonely, and he admits it. He has no one to vent to. Mitsuru is like a cousin. They aren't really that close. Mitsuru left to become a famous actor. Ren has been dealing with being sidelined for years, alone.

He doesn't suspect the marriage is real until it's too late.

Ren and Mitsuru move in together. Mitsuru places cameras all around the house. He watches Ren constantly. He pushes Ren's old lovers and coworkers away. He isolates Ren...but Ren isn't lonely anymore.

He finally has somebody who pays attention to him.

Ren uses his decent acting skills to repel women, and the marriage boosts his career. Ren becomes a model because of his looks, and his homosexual marriage is seen as trendy in this era.

There are women sulking around though.

Cheating is common in the acting world. There are actresses that expect Mitsuru to take the bait. Ren becomes more confident when the promise of easy ass never works on his husband.

The truth comes out. An old lover approaches Ren. One of the scandalous idol ones. Mitsuru bursts in enraged etc...Ren decides to accept Mitsuru for who he is. Being obsessed over isn't so bad, after being overshadowed by his mom for his entire youth.

Yeah.

Dark.

There's some dark needles in this teehee fake marriage plot.

random first time thoughts on super lesbian animal RPG

Ok so I bought super lesbian animal rpg because I saw a bunch of people on tumblr talk about it and I wanted to play more niche rpg maker games as Ive been trying out rpg maker myself so im playing the game to get inspiration for my own projects.

So far the game is super cute and wholesome but there is a bit of interesting stuff in this game ive found. (Im only about 30 minutes into the game)

first I find it funny that melody just has a tumblr account like the game doesnt use a name similar to tumblr to reference it ,she just straight up has a tumblr which is cool but unexpected:

next I looked in the settings menu and at the bottom there were 3 interesting options those being whether or not the game was art or not (of course I picked yes) then there was a stat that stated how much politics were in the game it was initially set to about 69% but I set it to 100% just to see what happens. There was also a stat for ludonarrative dissonance (I have litteraly no idea what these words mean) but I also set it too 100.

I have no Idea whether these stats actually do anything or If I should change them but I thought it was super interesting anyway.

Also on the save menu theres a stat for kisses which is just awwwww:

Anyway I realise I haven't talked much about the actual game itself but its really good the writing is super cute and charming.

The combat is generic rpg combat and not really my thing but Im not playing a game called SUPER LESBIAN ANIMAL RPG for the combat lmal.

Also Melody is trans and thats awesome.

also the steam page mentioned the game mentions transphobia and now all I can think of is that the main villian is gonna be furry jk rowling.

anyway yeah game very good and very gay thats all I have to say.

Dr. Wasabi Headcanons

(some of these are gonna be related to romance and relationships because I’m a mega simp)

• When she says she wants to get to know you inside and out, she means it. Her love language is dissection and experimentation, the exception of course being Mustard Cookie

• She’s very observant when studying patterns in behaviors, and sometimes she’ll even make note of things she deems to be extremely important, even if the person in question sees it as something small

•She’s a gamer, her favorite genre being online fighting games. This woman is an absolute MONSTER when it comes to mastering input combinations, a fearsome foe to be certain. I can imagine her and Mustard Cookie duking it out every so often whenever she visits the lab

• She sometimes affectionately nibbles her loved ones’ hand or arm

• Pansexual leaning sapphic (I was originally gonna say she’s a full-on lesbian but actually since she’s so down bad for Roguefort in the manhwa I think this makes more sense for me personally)

• She has a hard time standing still, always rushing around the laboratory and trying to get several things done at once. If she’s in a conversation with someone she might pace around or mess with her gloves

• She’s somewhere on the spectrum. Adding onto that, she has a lot of knowledge about a wide variety of subjects, she could go on Jeopardy and do pretty damn well probably

(I know everyone in the operation survival manhwa talks like this but infodumping fits her personality really well I feel)

• Since she’s a wasabi cookie, she can tolerate very spicy foods. On the rare occasions that she has guests over (she usually prefers to be alone when she’s tinkering with experiments in her lab) she forgets that not everyone likes food that will set their mouth on fire

• When she watches horror movies she picks apart all of the scientific inaccuracies, ie “actually if they were stabbed in that location then this would happen” don’t ask how she knows this information because you can probably take a pretty good guess. Despite this she still thoroughly enjoys them most of the time

• You’d be surprised just how flexible this old woman is, she can move in ways that contortionists can only dream of (I mean you just have to watch her slide in ovenbreak to know that)

• She can literally MacGyver any sorta contraption out of whatever junk is lying around, whatever you’ve got this woman just makes it work somehow

• She views Zombie Cookie as a son, think like if Victor Frankenstein were actually a good parent

• Her handwriting is absolutely atrocious, mainly just a bunch of incomprehension scribbles that she’s somehow miraculously able to read

CONCLUSION

I have many many many many thoughts about this woman, a lot of them pulled from the manhwa but some of them pulled from the games or just from my own brain. Ofc I know the manhwa isn’t canon but I feel like it does a really good job at portraying her personality so I incorporated it into my headcanons because of that. If you guys have any questions or additions I’m always open to hearing about them, I love unique character interpretations it’s just so much fun fr! I need you to know I am not asking this to be a jackass, but are there any plans to add a lady romance option or two to the game later? It looks like a great game with cool characters and an awesome world, but I often find that as a lesbian I get one option at best for these things. I am sorry if this isn't a great question. It's cool if this game just isn't for me, but I like what I am seeing from your style so far and would like to feel like I had more of a path for me, you know?

I don’t think you are coming across as a jackass at all, haha. What you’re asking is completely valid, and I’m glad the game looks good enough for you to have this much interest in it :) What I’m about to say is going to be long, mostly because I don’t want to misrepresent myself and my process, so sorry for the long response!

Unfortunately, I don’t anticipate being able to add more feminine presenting options to the game. It might help to explain the process of how Alaris has come to be to give some context as to why!

Alaris is a game that I started on a whim while in PhD school. It’s my first experience designing characters, drawing at a fuller capacity, creating a story, and programming. Basically, I had no experience in any aspect of creating a game when I started a year ago. Because of that, Alaris is mostly a game for me — both in taste and convenience.

I played to what I thought was feasible for me to do and what I enjoyed, meaning, regarding taste, it’s a fantasy game with a somewhat customizable character and romance options that are aligned to my personal tastes. Regarding convenience, if I’m being frank, I simply am bad at drawing feminine presenting characters because I don’t have as much experience drawing the anatomy for it </3 As you can imagine, creating a game as a hobby is already a large workload as is, especially given the scope of Alaris at this point. Forcing myself to also learn anatomy on top of that would hinder the progress I’m able to make for the game in a huge way and could potentially kill my motivation for it.

Alaris is a passion project I work on as a hobby and is my first game, so I didn’t want to burden myself with trying to do too much. Rather than make a “perfect” game that would cater to a lot of people and audiences, I stuck with a game that I would like and be happy with as a first-time creator. It’s fortunately grown in scope and audience far more than I would’ve anticipated, but that doesn’t change the fact that I work on it alone and so am limited in what I’m realistically able to add to the game :’(

With the stretch goals and six love interests already slated for the game, I don’t think I would be able to add an additional feminine presenting love option on top of that. Maybe in the future, if I make another game, it’s something I can revisit and implement from the beginning, but again, it’s not something I can realistically guarantee since it depends on my abilities. I hope that answers your question and gives context as to why there are no feminine presenting options in the game. I’m very sorry that Alaris may not be the game for you, but it’s very flattering that it looked interesting enough for you to ask <3

🔥X-Men (I’ll always have a soft spot for them because they were my childhood, but actually checking out the comics and revisiting some stuff makes me realize just how messy they are 😭)

When you remember when these comics were being released, a lot of X-Men is very progressive and what some people lacking in their prefrontal cortex might call "woke." Claremont will always have my respect for creating a lineup of heroes and going "I want the new leader and main protagonist of the group to be this beautiful Kenyan woman with godlike power, and I want the one woman on the original team to become the most powerful and have a fucking awesome and tragic arc to send her off." That only scratches the surface regarding the strides X-Men made in terms of representation: Kitty and Magneto being openly Jewish and Kurt's faith as a Catholic being integral to his character, Roberto being a mixed Black Brazilian whose powers activate when he's being hate crimed at a soccer game, making parallels between mutants and minority groups, and despite his initial Zionism back in the day I do really think that basing Xavier and Magneto off of two opposing Israeli leaders was a smart move to dive into the differences between them. Many ppl still believe that they're based off of MLK and Malcom X, but Claremont has said before that this isn't the case.

He draws off of a lot of cultures without making it seem like he's going "here are my token Black characters, here's my token implied gay (fuck you Comics Code, Mystique and Destiny are lesbians and Mystique's also genderfluid), here's my token Asian" etc.

As far as other hot takes go... X-Men 97!Roberto fucking sucks and I hate every second he's onscreen. That is not my Sunspot lol. Also Jubilee having a love interest is fine but it should have been a woman to hammer home the "coming out" narrative that they went with for Roberto's """""arc""""" if you can call it that. I mean come on, the only same sex couple in this show about the gayest and genderest comic book team is a pair of lesbians in the background of two episodes and a stray "blink and you miss it" reference using Morph's pronouns. Also the pacing in 97 is so fast but oddly enough, it kind of...works? They nailed down the 90s cartoon writing and dialogue that's just cheesy enough, and that also includes the insanely fast way the plot develops. Adapting the entirety of the Inferno arc in ONE episode should NOT have worked as well as it did, but it actually ended up being okay.

Gambit (SPOILERS FOR X-MEN 97) dying and staying dead is fucking great. A permanent death in a story like this is so refreshing and it's a wonderful contrast to the status-quo purgatory of so much capeshit.

Logan having a crush on Jean should have stayed as a crush, 97 making Rogue in a love triangle with Remy and Magneto despite that not being how it was in the comics was dumb (and led to a lot of people shitting on Rogue for no reason/misogynist reasons) and every X-Men love triangle sucked until they said "fuck it, make it poly" in the recent Krakoa arc.

Speaking of Krakoa, I haven't read it in its entirety but considering Hickman's sudden departure and his track record as a writer, I'm predicting a fascinating concept and cool ideas that won't be realized in a satisfying way and may even shit the bed when it comes time to wrap everything up.

Also a lot of the diverse characters in that Claremont era can sometimes have a "well meaning group of dudes not part of the group they're representing" tinge to them. Like one of the main Canadian antagonist monsters that fights Wolverine and Alpha Flight is called the W*ndigo and it's kind of jarring to read knowing about the taboo about that figure. Sometimes those jarring moments are intentional and meant to make you uncomfortable, like the n-slur Kitty drops in God Loves, Man Kills--which I think you can't adapt unless you go all the way with how dark and fucked up and charged. X-2 changed Stryker from a religious zealot to a fed and I get WHY, considering the time it was released and filmed in the US, but you take so much away from the original story. Also this comic starts with two mutant children being literally fucking lynched. Still, Kitty saying that may make sense in-character but it's still shocking to me what made it past the Comics Code and what didn't. Like no censorship of it, no nothing, she really says that shit full-on and that's definitely something that wouldn't happen today.

What a headache. It was really frustrating at the beginning but after the first trial it started getting really fun

Words can't describe how much I love Gant, he's the main inspiration for the antagonist in a new story I'm working on

I love how he's not even really upset when he gets caught, he's just like "oh well, I had a good run"

Also when Edgeworth gets too curious about wtf is going on and just wants the truth, that's great too

Wasn't fond of Angel at first but she grew on me and she's poggers

Same for Marshall but I don't like him as much as angel

I love that 1-4 and 1-5 both had stuff about old cases, it makes the writing feel a lot richer

Lana's design is awesome. She's got a lesbian face. Cannot elaborate.

Ema is alright too. I gave her a lotta crap but she's silly. Definitely not fair to compare her to Maya

I still think it's funny that Neil happened to look like Partitio

Gumshoe also acted very silly throughout the entire case

Meekins was neat too

I like that entire thing about Edgeworth unknowingly helping Gant with Goodman's murder by driving Goodman to the prosecutor's office

Another friend told me Wellington was awesome before I even got to JFA so I was super excited to encounter him. Was not disappointed

PAYNE MENTION!!!! I think Payne is silly too, by no means is he a good character but you get a good chuckle out of him. My sister and I also give him a really stupid voice when we play together

Dustin prince is a pretty good name too

My favorite character from the Owl House is Hunter because his character arc is so good and his relationship with Willow is adorable. (He literally fell for her at first sight)

And my favorite character from X Men is Kitty (I hate her relationship with Cyclops because she was a CHILD AND HE WAS A GROWN ASS MAN WHEN THEY MEET IN THE COMICS. Also can I just say that I hate that they make Bobby (the guy who does the ice thing) gay because that came out of nowhere and it only happened because an alternative version Jean Gray and her version of Bobby is gay so she decides that all versions of Bobby is gay and she needs to help them be their true self and Bobby who keep in mind has shown sexual and romantic interest in women up to this point 'realizes' he's gay and the rest of the comic is just him coming out to everyone one by one and hardly anything else happens. I wouldn't have minded so much if it wasn't for the fact that most media still treats sexuality like there's only two options gay or straight which completely erases Bisexual, Pansexual, Demisexual, Asexual, to name a few. It just grinds my gears you know anyway sorry for the rant. Kitty deserves a good love interest hopefully she gets one)

I feel like if reader had magic I feel like it would be similar to ether to Luz's or Eda's.

Hunter was so awesome, and he felt relatable, too. He and Willow are cute together, let them have plant and palisman babies!

I like Kitty, and I haven't read the comics (except a handful) so I didn't even know that relationship was thing. (Who the f*ck wrote that?!) I use my favorite X-Men medias as canon, along with head and heart canons, because let's face it: There are so many separate comics with different writers, different movies and timelines, even three (now going to be four) separate X-Men cartoons, whatever books and games they have for the various media, and even the anime and other Marvel shows where the characters show up from time to time. It is SO confusing. So, I just pick my favorite out of the bunch and roll with those (and usually it makes enough sense. Except the timeline changes in the movies. That STILL confuses me. Who is alive? Who is dead? Hopefully Deadpool fixes things).

And yeah, for Bobby, only one version of him was gay. It would have made more senses if they built that into a story arc, took it slowly, instead of being so abrupt. Let the guy be gay or bisexual, but at least make it make sense and not just be considered a quirk or passing fancy. Give it some development. Some thought. Make it mean something. Let it happen like how The Owl House portrays romance and self-discovery. (I myself am part of the asexual community, and that took awhile to figure out, and to this day I'm still finding out more about how I view relationships, platonic or romantic or otherwise. I'm not sure if I truly am interested in romance or not, but in the past I had a crush on a guy and girl, and later found out I just thought they were really great friends). This stuff can take time, it can get messy and feel gut-wrenching, but it doesn't make a person less for being bisexual or gay or lesbian or asexual or straight or trans. None are better than the others, and none are less than the others. It does help to realize all of this isn't back and white. It's a big, mixed canvas of grays in every shade of cloud and ash and silver and stone and eggshell and storm and smoke. (Point is, LGBTQA+ isn't back and white, neither is being straight, but these things are not just quirks. They shouldn't be treated that way, as those are valid beliefs and emotions that don't go away). (I hope I said this right, I'm not always great explaining my thoughts on this kind of thing).

Reader having a power similar to Luz or Eda would be so wild! Surprise, they have glyphs! Surprise, they're part owl beast! They have wild magic, they're blessed by the last Titans, they kicked an evil old emperor/hypocrite into dust! The series finale might have been a little rushed (thanks a LOT, Disney. You should have given them extra time! Extra episodes! A whole lot more episodes than just three for the third season!) but I thought it was still good for the constraints put on Dana and her team. They did good.

okie okie what r ur thots on arcane's usage of race, sexuality and especially class. where do they fail? where does it work?

i mean this is a big ask and not all of these systematized axes of oppression are transferrable onto this fantasy world wherein race and sexuality and supposedly negligible, and most of the primary players in the story are women. obviously class is the focal conflict of the show, and i spoke about some of my thoughts on how it is handled in another ask, but i will say that i think the way the show illustrates the intersection of poverty & disability is fascinating, viktor is fascinating.

when it comes to race and gender, mel's role in the show feels the most apt to discuss. she is the wealthiest person in piltover, the most beautiful person in piltover, the most influential politician in piltover, and she is a black woman. afaik, she is not a character who exists in the game, which means her character and design were created specifically for this show. i think it's awesome that they made a character who is literally the most beautiful woman imaginable black, and the fact that her beauty is also only one part of her. she is smart, and vulnerable, and complex. because she exists in a fantasy world, she is a black woman who is never affected by her race and gender, but nonetheless has problems she is given room to contend with in an emotionally honest way. god i love mel.

i will also say that i do think the caitlyn/vi romance works. it makes logical sense, they have chemistry, and i am excited to see how it progresses. i do think a potential pitfall is if the writers are obligated fidelity to the games, and the story concludes with them being cops together. i really do not want to see lesbian cops.

i also think that while arcane is great for its depiction of big, buff women, the fact that there is basically just a sliding scale of body types in this show with "thin and reedy" on one end (silco, jinx, viktor) and "big and buff" on the other (vander, sevika, ambessa) with some characters in between who are both lean and muscled (vi, ekko) is a missed opportunity. literally no one in this show has any body fat whatsoever. that's not how human bodies work. since the show is pretty good about being diverse in other ways (they even made caitlyn wasian!) this does seem like its most glaring oversight. again, fidelity to the game, but if they could reimagine pink haired male fantasy vi as a buff masc dyke, then i do think they could've considered adding at least one character with a regular human body.

then again, it's not like that factor detracts from my enjoyment of the show, and i do think the show does a good job at making the body type fit the character. the contrast between mel and her mother, both in terms of appearance and presentation, is especially striking.

i think we'll have to wait for the conclusion for me to comment on how the show handles its themes in a meaningful way, especially since this season is largely setup. there are multiple routes they could go down that would be bad, but also plenty of potential avenues for them to stick the landing. i'm not sure how the class conflict will progress, but i think my main, fairly reasonable demands at this point are 1) do not kill off mel 2) no lesbian cops. please for the love of god

Most Badass Character: Hrmm. hrmmmmm. ok its a bit out there but otacon. after the shitty childhood that he came out of pretty um.. (gestures at the whole making a nuclear weapon thing) convinced he/his family was cursed etc etc. forming philanthropy, adopting sunny, basically ending the cycle that his grandfather and father started+perpetuated and fulfilling the boss' will :) just makes me happy. hes great. also he got to marry solid snake at the end of it all so like slay? like hes not badass in the usual sense of the word but his character development and evolution is incredibly badass to me. next step: therapy

Most Epic Villain: i dont think you can call a lot of them epic on account of every mgs villain being goofy as fuck. BUT. liquid ocelot as a villain in what was (supposed to be) the conclusion of the entire series was pretty fucking awesome though

Pairing I am not a fan of: pbbb. umm. i dont really care for snake/fox im way more emotionally invested in fox/gustava personally (still upset she didnt get mentioned in mgs!!!!!!!!! RAHH.) also johnny/meryl was so out of nowhere i still do not understand it like its funny as fuck but JOHNNY??? IT SHOULD BE ME WITH MERYL!!1 ME !!!!!!!

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): arhg. raiden. i mean gestures at rising. this could also count as unpopular opinion but i preferred him as inexperienced and a little stupid i mean even then the direction they were going in in mgs4 was pretty good with him being jaded and feeling alone. and then rising was just. huah ?!?! what ?!?!?!? also. um. ok naomi. mgs1 naomi was so so fucking good ok her speech at the end slays i loved everything about her can you imagine my shock and dismay at her doing all THAT in mgs4 ?!?!? like i could write a 50 page essay on how it fucks up her (and otacons LOL) entire character development ALSO WHY WAS FOX LIKE NEVER MENTIONED DESPITE THEM LITERALLY GOING BACK TO THE PLACE WHERE HE DIED BTW I THOUGHT SHED HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT THAT. but honestly just the thing i hate about it all most is at the end of it all shes framed as like.. the hero. using emma+sunnys code to save da world or whatever and i guess maybe that speech was supposed to reflect her mgs1 speech but it just doesnt work when mgs4 didnt give her half of that nuance. her morals are still so ??? to me, her and vamp was such a WEIRD choice, her and otacon was um. ok look i know the writers 100% didnt mean to portray otacons csa as that at all but like it is ... anyway having a csa victim be once again manipulated via sex and not really talk about it was just ?!??!! guys ?!?!? anyway AGAIN if all of that was portrayed as nuanced as it should have been. like naomi doing what she had to to save the world and struggling w her own morals. which it IS but we learn this only in that fuckign speech for like 1 line. like its jut bad. ok to end this half the women in mgs were done horrifically but we all know that. sorry for the wall of text i love you

Favourite Friendship: SNAKE AND MERYL funny as fuck whenever she insults him in mgs4 like deserve. sorry snake. ok no WOAH though i just loved mgs4 meryl entirely even though she definitely couldve been written a bit better, like her talking about how she used to admire snake so much and now hes just BITTER and OLD like ohhh its so slay. like i dont know if you could even call it a friendship but the way they clash entirely and debatably the only place where they can agree on things and work together is in the context of the battlefield ITS SO GOOD

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: just give her more relationships tbh... i already talked about bb but like do you think she knew ocelot was the boss' son ... what did she think of him shed probably dislike him for doing the complete opposite of the boss' will (though in the end he does help take down the patriots so liiike?) ... i would pay millions of dollars for them to interact it would be atrocious. in general i wish shed been given just a little more depth outside of the boss (like give me more about how she grew up!!! what kind of mother was she to otacon!!! and ps i wish hed spoken about her even though ik she wasnt even a thing before the solid snake era wrapped up) though ig that was the point considering she was so consumed with grief... but yk. shrugs.

INTRODUCTION—

i’ve been a tumblr user since 2015, middle school, and yet i have, not once, attempted to post. so here i am now, 2023, almost out of highschool, finally picking up this goddamn cursed app out of the trenches. the trenches of apps that were EXTREMELY close to being offloaded for storage saving… thats how much i used it

and now, motivated by my partner (unknowingly) to give a single shit abt this app, here i am making an introduction post.

so first off, im robbie, zara, whatever. two names because im genderfluid and have fought and been annoyed of the name i had been given at birth, only to start accepting it again when i had finally been accepted with my chosen name. i make my own problems. hence, i use both, i don’t care anymore.

i go by any pronouns, i used to have a preference but i realized…

1. theres too many people in this world that aren’t going to care about what i want, and im tired of pushing that, not that its not awesome TO push that agenda, but personally its not something i have the energy for. 2. i literally feel comfortable with one pronoun one day, and then i don’t the next, so why even bother. and im not going to bother with making people ask what im comfortable with that day, because chances are, i don’t know myself.

when i was thinking about it, i realized i'm not actually sure i know what babygirl means nowadays... is it just pathetic men? does there need to be an element of "...and he's my little boyfriend <3" to it? honestly it's very rare for me to consider any male characters my "boyfriend" or "husband" so i will focus instead on which of them are most moe

1. fate's oberon of course... he IS my designated anime husband. i won't go too into spoiler territory for him, but he's quite literally a disgusting little freak enamored with the idea of having a wife who actually likes him. i think that's a universal sort of appeal. he has awesome voice acting! his design rules! he's a huge asshole BUT he is really kind in his own way! he can't be honest! his valentine's event takes you to a shitty apartment that looks like a fucking landfill! he's perfect!!! his swagless looks and cringefail personality captivated me from the moment i first saw him. he wins the category of "the lesbian's husband"

2. i'm in the middle of a big enstars phase rn so i HAVE to say eichi. the grip he's had on me since 2016-2017 is crazy... he literally redefined my taste in anime boys. there's no other character in this world that allows me to rocket back and forth between laughing about how nasty he is and fervently wanting to defend him from people who hate him for being nasty. kind of a "nobody's allowed to dunk on him except for people who love him!!!" situation... every time i ever stepped away from enstars it was because i get really down about how weird people are about him!! read fine events!!! he committed war crimes but he was soooo cute while he did it so you have to be nice to him or i'll cry. he wins the category of "the first hill i'd ever die on, the only man i'd ever die for"

3. KUJA FINAL FANTASY!!!! I COULD FIX HIM!!!!!!!!!!! that's all. he wins the category of "i could fix him"

4. jin kisaragi from blazblue. i have said truly truly wretched things about this man that i am too ashamed to ever repeat. but a tetsuya kakihara guy with a terrible personality, a pretty face, and a skintight black bodysuit is undeniable. he has a beautiful girlfriend and yet spends his games looking like an idiot with his fucked up siblings. he wins the category of "i wanna put this man in predicaments"

5. did you know that i apparently don't have a single fire emblem man i'm able to confidently call my babygirl? it's crazy... my fire emblem favs are firmly in the son category. like i thought maybe reyson from fe9-10 or arvis from fe4? but it just doesn't feel right... so instead i'm going with caim drakengard for no deep reason. i just think he's the funniest ever. i hope he's happy with his dragon spouse. he wins the category of "(jessica rabbit voice) he makes me laugh"

I've been super busy lately with a work schedule change, family getting surgery (they're fine now), and a foster puppy but I'm finally gonna talk about issue 58.

Adding a cut because it gonna be long and also spoilers.

Firsts thing first..the ones I found funny

But for real I loved this issue

Poor Tangle she's felt so bad when all she wanted was to make Whisper happy. She was just so sad for the first half. And like this mistake lines up so well with her 'no thoughts head empty just action' personality.

And just Whisper finally reuniting with her friends made me so happy (the pink one is getting SMUSHED help them!! (also SEGA name them please)) She just really went through it these last few issues (so did Sonic cause you know the bitey bath he took) but still she already lost her friends once and it almost happened again she gonna need a minute.

Once again Tails and Blaze are the only ones who have a brain cell in the group. (also I love Blaze's face in these panels she just looks so done with Sonic's shenanigans lol)

Also rip to part of my other headcanon about the chaos emeralds and how Eggman hasn't really tired to recreate a fake one like Tails did in the Adventure 2 game. But also it still holds because even Tails said it's a "cheap replica(s)". (also of course Tails still has to get a burn in there towards Eggman and him having shit tech) This still means that somehow Tails made an replica that was the size of a chaos emerald and worked well enough Sonic teleported so Tails canonically still has made a better fake than Eggman.

But my mind also immediately just jumped to " *bangs fists on table* DARK SONIC * DARK SONIC * DARK SONIC" (they probably aint gonna do it but we got fake emeralds so I'm holding out hope we get a dark Sonic arc)

Give it up to my girl Amy for being a menace and a bad ass

DO YOU EVEN LIFT THOUGH!!!! (Silver i feel like is now a little afraid of her) Also Tails just knows she did something cool cause he knows how awesome Amy is. It's also such a little kid moment of "aww i missed something cool the older kids are doing"

I just think these panels are so cute, they're really just such brothers look at them having the same facile expressions and reactions.

Eggman just somewhere in his base right now thinking "Why do I suddenly hear the boss music from Doom???"

But hell yeah we got team dark being a group of badasses lets goooo!!!!!!! I'm so excited for the next issue.
