so i'm not writing a novel tonight, i'll just do some of my favorite hcs. it'll probably be all over the place lmao

should i clarify that i'm autistic before i start

characters i don't have to explain: kageyama. ushijima. aone. i don't have to explain bokuto but i love him so...

bokuto: emotional dysregulation anyone? hiding in small spaces? being upset about shit that doesn't make sense to other people? come on y'all. volleyball is obviously his special interest (like many other hq characters...) i think he also gets sensory overloads, like lights, sounds, textures, etc. being too much

kita: that bitch is autistic. just look at him. kita has so many routines. everything has a certain order it should go in. everything has a place it should be. he's generally very calm and it takes a LOT happening for him to get overstimulated. he's also so confused by social interactions all the time and has a hard time identifying his emotions. aran is his neurotypical and emotions interpreter

akaashi: is it projection? stfu. maybe. anyway. have y'all seen his interactions with people? have you seen how analytical he is? it's the autism. he's very aware of other people and makes sure he's following societal rules that he's taught himself. he can get overstimulated easily because he's super anxious. he has a lot of food sensitivities in the sense of like of like his food might suddenly taste Not Right and he can't eat it anymore. he also has trouble recognizing hunger and thirst cues. sh tw - i think if he has a really bad meltdown he tends to hit himself no i'm not projecting leave me alone

kuroo: hear me out on this one! kuroo is really "manipulative" and good at socializing because he's really fucking good at mimicking and masking. how shy he was when he was a kid? that was just autism. and his special interest was volleyball! but as he got older he got really fucking good at masking. but with that, he ends up draining himself a lot because he never stops masking. he never gives himself breaks and will run himself into the ground. i think he'll also go nonverbal sometimes, kinda like back when he was a kid, but it's in the "words hurt to come out" kinda way

kenma: i really don't need to explain him either, you all know why. but i'll give some of my hcs. kenma will ignore hunger and thirst cues. he knows he should drink/eat, but will not take care of it sometimes. i think he can get very overstimulated and sensory overload, especially when socializing

the twins: i'm gonna lump them together, sorry lmao. i think they're both autistic and share a lot of similar traits like emotional dysregulation to a certain extent, being oblivious to social cues, overstimulation (but in different ways). they both like routine but again in different ways, atsumu likes daily routines in the sense of things have an order they go in, things happen at a certain time. osamu likes routines in things staying the same. he doesn't like change that he's not prepared for. (when sakuatsu start dating, he hates kiyoomi for a while because it's something different with his most important person) i think it took a lot longer for them to realize osamu was also autistic because he spent a lot of time accommodating atsumu. atsumu would be a lot more vocal (aka loudly upset/having meltdowns) over shit that bothered him, but osamu wasn't as noticeable. but! osamu does also have meltdowns, they just look different. osamu's meltdowns look like blind anger, and once atsumu realizes that, he doesn't always respond to osamu's anger with violence

Ho boy, here we go. We've already talked about their dynamic a lot, but Xiao highly respects the both of them and reveres them for their kindness and mercy. He doesn't think himself important enough to form any particular opinion on their (romantic -cough-) relationship, but he is still pleased to see the two lords content in each other's company. This is especially true because Xiao notices Morax softening thanks for Guizhong. I imagine Xiao would be struck with wonder and perhaps admiration when he first sees Morax smile/laugh.

On a more individual level, Xiao views Morax as the absolute authority on all things relating to him, basically. He is Xiao's lord, his master, so he will submit to his will. This is ingrained in him deeply because of the teachings of his previous mistress, but he also recognizes that Morax is very different from her and doesn't share her expectations. Xiao submits to this extent because he wishes to do so, because he believes in Morax and wants to bring his wishes to fruition. Fear is no longer his reason at all, and he takes pride in choosing to devote himself fully. He wants to be useful to Morax, to be...valued by him, in some shape or form, though he wouldn't voice this to him. Clearly, he seldom allows himself to see the care and fondness Morax has for him.

Guizhong is a bit of a tricky topic mainly because lore is not my strong suit lol I recently found out that she apparently dies before Xiao joins Morax' ranks? Not sure if that's true, but in our timeline, she is clearly very much still alive to meet him. Xiao would slowly, very slowly open up to her, drawn to her kindness and patience. Her presence would be soothing to him since she holds no expectations, merely seeks his company for company's sake. He isn't required to speak unless spoken to, may exist in a comfortable silence or even doze in the comfort of the safety she provides. She's the first person he learns to trust fully after everything, and I believe she is largely responsible for his recovering both in the physical and mental/emotional sense. Morax gives him purpose, whereas Guizhong gives him peace.

Needless to say, her death hits him deeply. He tells himself he has no right to mourn her past how a worshipper would mourn their god. He pushes his feelings down, focuses solely on his duty. I doubt he ever voices how close he actually felt to Guizhong nor does he linger on her presence in his thoughts for fear of his control slipping. He does light incense on her deathday, however. Whenever he is physically able to. This much, he hopes he can be allowed.

had a fucking hilarious dream that tumblr replaced the "block" function with the far funnier "glock" function, which did the exact same thing except whenever anyone blocked you a random bullet hole, like a png of a bullet hole, would appear on your blog. discourse blogs were unreadable bc you'd go to the page and the sheer amount of bullet hole pngs stacked over the blogs obscured everything. I woke myself up laughing

tw: Examples of reblog bait/people trying to guilt others into reblogging stuff. I am not actually saying the things below, they're just examples that I have seen.

I fucking hate when people say stuff like this. Especially when it's on a generally good post with valuable information. On the one hand I want to share that information because it could genuinely help someone; on the other, I don't want to spread this type of guilt-tripping and shaming and potentially trigger someone else like me. It's a lose-lose situation. No matter what I do, I am going to feel guilty. No matter what I do, I will feel like a terrible person. It sucks and I just wish people would stop doing this. I know it's shocking, but it is actually possible to make an important and useful post without guilting everyone that sees it into sharing.

- i kinda like that she ended up looking like a mother-of-pearl inlay lacquerware!

- oh this was a subconscious choice, but Gale is sitting in seiza which is a posture for showing respect especially to elders. it's also known to be a painful position to sit in for extended periods of time, which is why it was sometimes used as a method of (morally dubious) punishment. however, experienced people can maintain this posture for much longer. food for thought :-)

you know what boils my blood.

over the last 2 weeks, i've seen countless patients walk into my urgent care center, symptomatic for so many things, refusing to get tested for covid and flu, citing that they don't want to knowingly bring it to their holiday tables. i had a patient tell me, verbatim, "i don't want to test for covid, because i don't want to be the asshole who brings it on a plane."

i understand that - i understand that holidays are times where people look forward to meeting loved ones that they might only see once a year, or where they get a break from the hectic back and forth of their lives.

but here's the thing - whether they get tested or not, they will bring whatever they have to their holiday tables. it's pure recklessness to know that you're sick, and walk into someone else's house spreading the disease.

today, january 2, i saw 91 patients, many of them who have tested positive for covid and flu. many of these patients are the same ones who didn't want testing 3 days ago, until their events were over, and now, they will have to reach out to everyone they know to let them know that they were positive because they were showing symptoms well before their event.

the next week or two? we're going to see many, many more, all people with symptoms that started around christmas. these are the only two viruses we test for rapidly in our office, but they are potent and can be fatal in many people.

so here's why i wrote this post, and maybe it's a little late, but - if you care about your loved ones, please get tested if you know you're sick. it doesn't have to be at a clinic if you don't want it to, because the over-the-counter tests work just fine too (if you test within 5-7 days of symptom onset). just...please don't try to run from the knowledge that you might have covid, because immunocompromised people, elderly people, people with co-morbidities like asthma, pregnancy, diabetes, etc...many of them may not recover. and they may not be sitting at your holiday table in the future because of it.

Watching the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is realizing that despite the obvious implication that Lucy Gray is the songbird and Snow is the Snake…it’s likely the opposite.

Lucy gray controlled the snakes and used them as her weapon of choice, the snake biting him was Lucy’s kiss goodbye. She is the snake.

Snow sold Sejanus out through the jabberjay’s, they were his tool to fly back home and back into power. He is the songbird.

But at the same time…as in her Ballad, Lucy Gray flys away with the mockingjays after she sings the Hanging Tree one final time while fleeing Snow. She is physically a songbird. And Snow chose to work with Dr. Gaul, who created and controlled those snakes. He was the snake who betrayed his friend.

Who is the songbird and who is the snake? It’s unclear, but isn’t that the mystery?
