So my brain is filled with thoughts while I try to work on my fanfic (hi inktart if you read this) so Buggs headcanons and thoughts because he is important to said fic.

So Buggs is just a funky little guy to me. Like I imagine when he gets older he has this scary aura but he is just a chill dude. The kind of guy you ask to walk you home when it gets dark because you're worried about getting lost.

Like he's still a jerk, don’t get me wrong. He won't stop being that way, but he's genuinely nice. To the world's worst found family, his kindergarten class mates. He has his thoughts about them.

He'll bully Nugget(more of teasing when they get older but still), but when Nugget comes to him after school, all bruised and bloody, telling Buggs about these kids who hurt him and Buggs was the closet person to him? Buggs will not only bandage Nugget, but he'll tell Lily and Billy as he prepares to beat up someone.

Speaking of Nugget, Buggs doesn't care about him. He'll bully him, tease him, be rude. But first things first, Nugget is Buggs' target, no one else's. He'll act the way he does to Nugget all the time, someone else does it though? All of sudden Nugget is Buggs' friend and he will fight you on it.(Nugget doesn't care really)

He cares about his friends but he doesn't really show it that well. He'll write them notes or give them a gift that he got money to afford, he's nice when he wants to be. He has troubles showing affection and communication, but at least he can talk about with someone else.

Felix and Buggs aren't close, ever. They chat yes, but they're not friends. They both agree on one thing, they both suck at emotions and identifying them. They talk about it in the dark of night, never to speak about to anyone else.

Teddy and Buggs are the same way. Teddy talks about his problems with family and Buggs would do his best to help him get through his emotions. Buggs gets it when Teddy cries because his father and how he wishes Felix could be himself more, Buggs talks about his father just left him behind and how he believes that Teddy deserves better. But they never talk about it outside of behind the school with a shared lunch.

Cindy and Jerome are Buggs' closest friends. When Buggs gets a tear in his jeans, these two would offer old clothes to sew on as he loves that pair of jeans. When he gets into punk fashion and wants to add patches of cloth to his jacket, they happily help him thrift said jacket and patch it up with him.

Cindy wants to practice makeup styles or she wants to talk about family problems? Buggs is there for both. Jerome has riddles to tell or he has to rant about something that bothers him? Buggs is a phone call away.

Ozzy and Buggs are also weird. Ozzy heard about a kid with financial problems, and told his mother about it, and here they are. Living in the same house.

To Ozzy, Buggs is a new kid that he doesn’t really understand. But he seems kind of cool and as long as his mother is unharmed and his schedule isn't that disrupted.

Buggs sees Ozzy as weirdo, not Nugget weird, but still weird. He is just a lame normal kid, how? How this lame kid alive? He is just the weirdest kid because he's just a guy. He calls Ozzy 'Squeeb' which means he's a square and a dweeb, the lamest of the lame. He cares about Ozzy yes, but he is still just a weird, lame kid who is somehow the normalest kid ever.

If you asked Kidd what they think about Buggs. You would probably get this response:

"Buggs is lovely, when he is feeling friendly. He's mean sometimes, but he really is cool when you get to know him."

Buggs would tell you that Kidd follows him around like a lost puppy. Always asking him about his knife, or his plans, or anything really. Buggs has a soft spot for Kidd even still. Kidd is the second cutest little thing to Buggs(first is Cindy). Just this squishy little thing that could kill a man. Buggs finds them just adorable, because I mean, Kidd is a kid that thinks Buggs is the coolest person ever.

Carla, Penny, Monty. Buggs only really cares about Carla. They work together to smuggle things into school, they sometimes hang out. But truly they are just coworkers. He is nice to Penny and Monty when he sees them, after all, it would be rude for him to be rude to Carla's partners.

Billy and Lily are not people he prefers to think about it. Billy was a traumatized kid who was experimented on and his sister has seen the worst of the worst of what Billy has felt and been through. Buggs ignores them unless someone else brings them up.

Ron and Madison, Ozzy's friends. Buggs prefers Ron to Madison, he's rowdy and hyper active. The kid you would find with tree leaves and branches in his hair and mud over his body. Buggs enjoys spending time with him, it's not surprising to find both of them play fighting in Ron's back yard before coming inside laughing and playfully jabbing at each other. Madison is Ozzy's 'just a friend' girlfriend. She's a peach to Buggs, sweet and kind and the light of Ozzy's life. He talked to her once on the phone, she was saved that Tuesday and Ozzy was asleep after a meltdown, Buggs took the call until Ozzy woke up. Buggs cares about Madison, but he will never say anything to her.

Alice scares Buggs to be honest. Her gaze is off to Buggs, she was like if Kidds had noticeable eyes instead of black holes. She doesn't talk a lot, she talks to beings that aren't there sometimes. But she scares Buggs because of a different reason. He saw it once, the time she had claws instead of hands, her mouth full of sharp teeth, and the body of some teacher at one of their many kindergartens... Buggs never told Alice what he saw, he just hopes she doesn’t remember seeing him there as well.

Fest rules

What is this fest about?

Drarry Mini Bang is a collaborative fest in which writers and artists come together to create fanwork. The writers will submit their detailed concept for a fic, and artists will claim one or several (up to you!) to create an art piece.

Who can participate?

You must be at least 18 years old at time of signing up.

We also expect you to treat everyone taking part, including the mods, with respect. 

All work must be your own, and we do not allow any kind of fic or art produced with AI.

You may register as both a writer and an artist, but due to the collaborative nature of this event, you cannot make art for your own fic. All the matching will be done through the claiming process, therefore we will not allow pre-made collabs between artists and writers.

What are the requirements for writers? 

Writers will need to write an original fic of at least 10k.

The fic needs to be a stand-alone, unpublished fic. You will be asked to submit your fic concept with an estimated word count, a list of tags and possible warnings/triggers and the rating of your fic. If any of these details change after you’ve submitted your concept and before preview day, you need to let the mods know asap. If something changes after the teams have been announced, please talk to your partner and let the mods know if there are any issues.

Please do not share details of your fic before you are matched with an artist. You can share small snippets and talk about your story after the teams have been formed.

Your fic must be complete and has to be beta read before the submission deadline. Should you need an extension, please let us know as soon as you can.

When you fill in your sign up form, you will be given a chance to decide what type of art you would like to receive for your story.

We will cap writers at 25 participants, but we will open sign ups for pinch hitters. We will try our best to find everyone an artist to work with, but due to the collaborative nature of this event, should we not have enough artists, the people whose fics have not been picked might have to be dropped.

What are the requirements for artists?

You can create a variety of original fan work based on the story your writer is working on:

- illustrations, both digital and traditional (they don’t need to be in colour) 

- moodboards (at least 6 elements)

- plastic arts (including embroidery and origami)

- playlists (a minimum of 10 songs)

- fic binding

- podfic

We will ask you to create a minimum of one art piece based on the story your writer is working on. If you would like to work with more than one writer (which would make us extremely happy), please let us know in your sign-up form.

There is no cap for artists.

What kind of rating is allowed?

Any rating is allowed for both art and fics, but please tag your work appropriately. 

We support SALS (ship and let ship) YKINMKBYKIO (your kink is not my kink, but your kink is okay) and DLDR (don’t like – don’t read), so we will not tolerate any shaming. 

For this fest, we will not accept any works that contain darker themes or tropes that are usually covered by the "Dead Dove" tag. If you have any doubts about specific content and would like to know if it will be accepted, please do not hesitate to contact us.

If your work is rated Mature or Explicit, the characters involved must be at least 18 years old (Hogwarts 8th year fic are therefore acceptable with any rating).

What is the schedule for posting?

Sign ups open for writers and artists: 20th January

Sign ups close: 18th February

Deadline for fic concepts and details to be submitted by writers: 18th February

Fic concepts sent to artists: 24th February

Artists claim: 27th February

Teams announced: 2nd-6th March

Do I need to keep my creation secret?

You can share your WIPs only after the teams have been announced.

This fest is not anonymous.

What if my partner ghosts me or is being rude?

Please let us know and we’ll speak to them. This is a collaborative event - ignoring your partner causes unnecessary stress and anxiety, and we will not tolerate any rudeness or abuse.

We also ask that you stick to deadlines, because we don’t want anyone to be let down and end up without a partner. If you think at any point during the fest that you need to drop out, please please please let us know as soon as you can, so that we can find someone to replace you.

Submas sketchdump! Vol. 1

April-June 2022

Literally dumping all the presentable works as promised, whether I'm proud of them or not! This is where I started, even before the first thing I posted online (That subway station one). Many of these are not on Twitter yet so there's lots to see!

The top piece above the header is my very first digital Submas artwork!! I never finished it bc I didn't know how to pull my vision of as I wanted & started modeling the train and didn't finish that either, whoops! I really want to remake this later and make it super cool!

^^^ My reaction to breaking 500 likes & 100 followers in a single day with my first tweet (the battle subway one) all the way back in May!! I was completely floored by all the attention, oh how it skyrocketed my excitement and anxiety! Crazy times, I was so super nervous to be there with so many amazing artists and doubted if I could ever survive there ahahah!! Many had joined the community much much earlier than me, so I had arrived with a late train to PLA/neo Submas hype!

Next up is a bunch of stuff I haven't posted before:

One of my fav sketches! Been saving this for so long bc I really really want to finish this one day!

One of the first submas sketches with an actual story behind it! The subway bosses are running late for their flight because they didn't pass the safety check! The irony!! This would never happen as bosses are always on schedule. But Emmet hadn't noticed a wild Joltik hiding under his coat, so he set up the alarm and they got examined and interrogated of smuggling! How embarrassing for them! The bosses resolved the situation by catching the Joltik, but will they be able to catch their flight anymore?? Maybe if Elesa can distract the stuerts performing the safety protocol for a minute!

A few examples of how my pencil sketches evolve.

I've done so much art experimenting with submas. I really like this black & white painting but I don't think I'll finish it anytime soon.

Where did you go?

The way I draw the twins' faces has changed a lot. They started with softer features and somewhat neutral emotions, because I wasn't as familiar with them or comfortable drawing them yet. Now there's hundreds of submas sketches, and they still keep evolving! My style is also kinda hard to pull off well, so their features differ from picture to picture.

This one was inspired by some submas music videos, can't recall their names anymore. The glowing eerie eyes and yellow&orange + black&white color schemes were neat!

I keep telling myself I need to draw more butlers, these twinks look so lean and neat and have more color and are posh with their monocles and have fun tailcoats!

(...why eyeglasses are not called binocles??)

I was there for the vinegar chaos. Good times!

Habits I picked up because of school that I keep up with (on my semester break)

Waking up early- I find that, with few exceptions, I wake up before 8:30am every day.

Study groups- okay I’m stretching the definition here, but I have productivity days at coffee shops with my friends, where I work on job applications, blog posts (hehe I’m writing this one from the coffee shop), or work on hobbies (mostly crochet and embroidery).

Notion schedules-I used to keep weekly and daily schedules on notion to track schoolwork, but I now use them to track my work schedule and hangout dates with my friends

Always keeping lists/notebooks around- I am rarely without a notebook in arms reach. I have a notebook in my bag and by my bedside. I keep sticky notes in my apron at work so I can write things down and add them to my notebooks. I used them as a type of bullet journal but with none of the structure.

I still study- I just now have full control on what I study. For example, I plan on teaching myself the Dewey decimal system soon. (And picking up some asl)

Digital art- what started as doodling in the margins of my digital notebooks has become a full-blown hobby of mine.

Visiting the library- honestly, I just find the library to be a very comforting place.

Writing book reviews- while my book reviews for my blog posts are far less structured and formal, they only exist because I got used to writing them for school.

Reading nonfiction- I found through online classes that I enjoy reading textbooks and nonfiction work.

Listening to audio books- I started listening to audio books back when was both full time student and working full time because I had no time to sit down with a book. Now its my preferred way to read.

Picking up hobbies- I am always looking for my next hobby to pick up. Last year I picked up painting and crafting. I also tried out wax seals and gardening (shout out to the two plants I haven’t killed yet).

No joke — Nimona Big Bang Artist Sign Ups Closing April 1st!

Are you an artist who loves the Nimona movie and/or graphic novel? Would you like to make fanart for a fic?

Sign up for the Nimona Big Bang and we will help match you with a Nimona fanfic writer!

What's a Big Bang?

A Big Bang is a collaborative fandom event that results in an explosion of new fanwork. Writers are paired with artists, who create fanart for the new fanfic written for the Bang.

For the Nimona Big Bang, we're asking for a 5,000 word minimum for fanfics and two art pieces. Participants can take on up to two possible roles: writer, artist, beta reader (to help proofread draft fics), writer pinch hitter (in case a writer needs to drop out), or artist pinch hitter (in case an artist needs to drop out).

What's the schedule?

Sign ups for all roles opened on January 1, 2024. While sign ups are now closed for writers, artists can sign up by April 1st and beta readers can sign up by July 28th.

Writers will provide fic summaries/200 word excerpts by April 20th so that artists can bid on them. Writers and artists will be paired by April 28th.

We will have several scheduled check-ins to make sure everyone's on track. If you feel like you need to drop out, please do so by July 15th so that we can try to find a replacement artist for your partner.

Final fanfics and fanart will be revealed on September 14th.

What kind of art is allowed?

Pretty much anything — digital, traditional, vids, music! For art that requires significantly above-average time and effort (multi-panel comic, etc.), we're ok with just one art piece.

We understand that people are busy! The schedule was designed to be relatively relaxed and low pressure. You could also sign up as a pinch hitter in case an artist needs to drop out.
