reading xie lian’s POV is actually hilarious once you realise xie lian isn’t oblivious at all, he basically guesses most things immediately, he’s just taken the veteran autism tactic of “it’s too much effort to figure out when it’s appropriate to mention that i know something, so i’ll just pretend i don’t know until someone says it aloud”. sometimes it turns into a bit. the truth might be embarrassingly obvious, but social cues are hard, and xie lian has infinite time to wait for the other person to blink first.

It's really frustrating being trans sometimes with cis loved ones because other cis people will go, "oh but it's such a huge adjustment for them! They're grieving for your pre-transition self/they aren't used to the change yet/it's hard on them!"

It's just so frustrating that people forget that trans people's feelings on this matter, too. Cis people aren't the only ones who have adjustments to make. Frankly, as much as I sympathize with cis people in this position, I can't help but be really jaded about it because so often, cis people jump to the defense of other cis people and they will seemingly forget to or refuse to give the same grace to trans people.

bwah okay its not that much different from canon. they were still a deep space colonization fleet but in this au their mission was technically a success

seeds established an research outpost on no mans land to study the planet and test it for potential permanent habitation in the future. basically the fall doesnt happen. or at least not when and how it does in canon

vash and nai were born when seeds began constructing proper long term facilities on the surface

2 years later the research facilities have turned into small cities, terraforming projects kicked into gear and a decent human population was slowly being woken up from cold sleep. the colonization mission for this fleet was deemed a success

the twins were part of a project testing independent plant capabilities and the utility potential of reality bending (the ability to both power and control machines and expanding the storage capacity of small fast aircraft for transportation efficiency), later named project gemini in their honor. during that time the jets g-01 and g-02 and their prototype engines were constructed

at some point nai found detailed info on the project and noticed the discrepancy in their unit numbers, their engines being numbered 02 and 03 in the blueprints. more digging led to the discovery of tesla and her fate as an integrated part of the fleets onboard ai, knives went mad and began plotting the downfall of humanity. over a few weeks he secretly gained control over the local aircraft fleet and one of the production lines and launched an assault on the main ships in orbit

the one man war against seeds (and poor vash, who was caught in the crossfire, not wanting to fight either of them and trying to stop them from fighting each other) lasts a few decades and only ceases when nai shoots his brother out of the sky by accident

by then little was left of the original seeds project, losing the battle in the end. the sky and desert are a graveyard of ships and aircraft a century later. most of humanity doesnt remember the project or know what happened. a majority of the population abandoned seeds and fled the facilities to establish their own settlements during the war

and thats the deal with seeds! i think? did it explain anything? i got so caught up in writing this that i wrote down some of the early plot dhgfjhdfg

#talkys #and also spiraling bc i look back at old art and like some of it but i really dont like the way i draw ykwim #i dont like that this is my style it doesnt make me happy. but i dont like anyone elses's style enough to emulate either. sucks #OH the issue is i have specific ways i like drawing heads/faces that cant comfortably go on a body #furs are easy bc you can draw huge necks short legs smaller bodies etc #if i had drawn a recent smunker with a human head the head would look too big ykwim #the way i like drawing heads means they have to go on a bigger longer more realistic body. and i dont like that/cant draw bodies easily tha #way. as it stands rn my heads either fit kinda big on a body‚ which is more in line with how humans actually are #which makes my work feel more rigid and like i have to align more with realism #or the heads are too small and make the bodies look even longer. and i dont like. long bodies. i cant figure it out. it just doesnt look #right. no human full body ive done ever looks right to me. like i cant hack it and make it stylized enough for me to not care abour #the Rules like i do with furs #idk if this makes sense. i keep seeing styles like urasawa with small facial features and i love that i wanna do that #but the proportions mean id have to draw a more realistic body....idk...! #and also theres 500 billion ways to draw a face. i cant draw the same body proportions for all of em. #this is why it feels like im drawing for the first time every time i draw a new character...! #cant draw heads first bc then the body looks bad...cant draw bodies first bc i cant attach the head... #cant thumbnail the whole silhouette bc then when i add details the head still looks too big or small compared to the body... #and simply scaling the size does not fix it...

i think a lot about how the roman thermae and bathing culture is presented as a sign of how Civilized and Advanced the romans were but one of the essential parts of the thermae was the caldarium, essentially a sauna, which was heated up through the floor.... under which slaves constantly had to toil to feed the fire while suffocating in the heat and steam that would rise through the floor to make free romans and the slaves' masters get a nice sweat, free to move on to the cold baths in the next room whenever they wanted.
