Plot of The Legend of Zelda: Missing Link?
Yay, that's my favorite title from that list! If anyone sees this and is inspired to write/draw something based on this, be my guest! And tag me so I can see it :)
After the defeat of Calamity Ganon, peace reigns in Hyrule. With the help of her loyal knight who never leaves her side, Zelda works to rebuild the fallen kingdom and strengthen ties between the peoples. Though her heart lies in research, she is dedicated to fulfilling her duty as heir to the kingdom, with grief for the past and hope for the future spurring her on. However, as she and Link move throughout Hyrule, they notice something alarming: the monsters that should have disappeared once Ganon was destroyed are still there. In fact, new types of monsters have sprung up: gibdos in Gerudo Desert, horroblins in the Hyrule caves, like-likes around Death Mountain, gleeoks near Zora's Domain, and aerocudas flying over Rito Village. The townspeople who were expected to welcome Zelda and Link with open arms are now a cold and withdrawn few. Those that they meet in the street only spit angry words at the so-called saviors of Hyrule. Windows are shuttered and few houses have light shining through the cracks. Barely anyone lives there now, but with so many monsters about, the idea that someone would voluntarily leave the safety of their town is strange. They decide to camp on the outskirts, close enough to be sheltered by the houses but not too close in order to avoid more harassment. Zelda is tempted to feel uneasy, but Link's steady presence quells her fears, so she is able to fall asleep. When she awakens, Link is gone. Zelda never imagined her return to research would be like this. Hunted by monsters and shunned by her own people, she searches for answers while the sensation that she is running out of time hangs over her head. Why are there new monsters? Why are so many people missing? Where is Link? And why does it feel like she is always being watched?
Send me one of these BotW 2 speculative titles and I'll write a plot!

Tears of the Kingdom is fantastic so far. Genuinely an incredible game that somehow manages to exceed astronomical expectations. But there are a couple UX things that are surprisingly bad -- "surprisingly" because I feel like a game of this caliber that was delayed so many times really should have caught these in playtesting.
This post contains no spoilers until after the cut. Everything above the cut is basic gameplay mechanics that are accessible within the first hour of play.
1. You should be able to fuse weapons directly from your inventory. It's actually baffling to me that you can't. If I have a gem that I want to fuse to my sword, I have to select the gem, select hold, unpause the game, toss the gem on the ground, switch to the sword, select fuse, select the gem, and select my sword. Why on earth is it that many steps?? It can be slightly sped up by throwing the item on the ground using R and the quick menu, but that's still a lot. You should be able to select a weapon in your inventory, hit fuse, then select a material -- done. This is so obvious to me that I am still shocked it's just not an option. You can destroy fusions from your inventory, so why can't you make a fusion there too??
2a. The materials quick menu is a lot, whether you're firing an arrow or just finding something to throw. Every item you've ever picked up is in a single long row that you have to scroll through desperately to find the one thing you need. Part of this is unavoidable simply due to the amount of materials in the game, and the ability to sort helps a little. But you should really, really be able to set favorites. Ideally the favorites would be in a ring menu similar to the hand abilities, with one of the options being to open the full inventory, but even the option to set favorites that will always appear at the top of your regular list would help tremendously.
2b. Also, while I appreciate being able to craft your own arrow types and not rely on always finding or buying the ones you need, you should be able to stockpile certain arrow fusions ahead of time. I pretty much always want fire arrows, shock arrows, ice arrows, bomb arrows, and homing arrows on hand, and having to individually fuse every single shot quickly gets tedious.
This last one is a spoiler -- don't look under the cut unless you've completed at least one of the main story sections.
3. The sage abilities are incredibly inconsistent to activate, especially when you have more than one following you. I currently have the Rito, Goron, and Zora sages, and they're becoming a lot to manage. If you want to use their abilities, you have to stop, look around to find all your followers, locate the specific one you need, approach them, and press A. And I swear they are never around when you want them, but when you're just trying to pick up some materials, they're practically on top of you and I'm using their ability by accident. I'm not entirely sure what the solution is -- you could give each ability its own combo to activate automatically, but they'd quickly become unmanageable.

Modern revalink where rito and the other races of hyrule aren't human. A vauge enough premise that you can assign your own prompt to it, or mix with other prompts
So I'm not sure if you meant are human instead of aren't, but the idea of a modern!AU with all the races still being exactly themselves intrigued me, so I ran with it!
Feat. Link as a merchant who always knows exactly what you need and Revali who is both figuratively and literally buying none of it.
The marketplace is one of those that claims to be open to everyone, but is really made for Hylians only. A Gerudo might still find her way around, but the stalls are built too low for the Zora, and the lanes are too narrow for any Rito to spread their wings. Truly, Revali would never have come here on his own. But Molli had begged for it, and he finds it increasingly hard to deny her anything.
He still isn’t entirely sure what her goal is. She walks through the market with single-minded purpose, ignoring all the stalls she passes by, even the ones Revali thinks she should enjoy. He trails after her, feeling wrong-footed between the many Hylians and disliking every second of it.
“Molli,” he calls out when she passes yet another stall he expected her to stop at, one with plenty of books and comics that should have been right up her alley. Molli doesn’t stop, but at least she slows enough for him to catch up to her.
“What’s wrong?” she chirps, eyes darting from side to side as she rapidly scans the stalls.
“What are you looking for?”
“A merchant!” she announces, as if there aren’t dozens of stalls and even more merchants in this square. Fortunately, she continues quickly. “He always knows what you need!”
That sounds entirely implausible to Revali. “And where did you hear that?”
“Dalia told me at school,” Molli says, still stepping forward with determined strides. “He gave her some really nice berry seeds, and she never even told him she wanted a garden!”
Ah, a children’s playground story. No wonder Molli is obsessed. Revali follows behind her, amused enough to even brave the marketplace. Best case scenario, she’ll have an interesting story to tell her parents. Worst case, it’s a scam artist and Revali will have fun eviscerating them.
Molli only finds the stall she’s searching for at the very end of the marketplace, where the stalls have already thinned out and Revali finally feels like he can spread his wings again. Calling it a stall is probably giving it too much credit: it’s little more than a blanket spread on the ground with an eclectic collection of goods on it. Most of the people here try to stick to a general theme, but just from a quick glance, Revali has already spotted everything from a toaster to a dustbin to what appears to be a cuckoo clock.
The stall owner is another Hylian, pretty unremarkable as far as they go, with blond hair and a slight stature. He’s nodding earnestly as one of his customers gestures widely, clearly in the middle of expositing exactly what he needs. The owner frowns for a moment, before nodding and shifting item after item in the mess he’s made of his stall. He finally emerges again with… an empty glass jar?
It must serve its purpose, because the man looks ecstatic, thanking the stall owner profusely before skipping off. No payment has exchanged hands, Revali notices. He wonders what exactly this man is playing at.
Before he can warn her, Molli has already run up to the Hylian.
“Hello!” she says. Revali quickly positions himself behind her to provide some intimidation, in case the man thinks he can scam a child. The Hylian’s eyes quickly glide over him before settling on Molli.
“Hello,” he says. His voice is far softer than Revali had expected, not at all suited to a salesman hawking his wares. “Can I help you?”
Molli nods vigorously, but refuses to follow up when the man waits for more. Revali would chastise her for it, or at least say he did if her parents ask, but he’s grudgingly interested as well. If this man can really tell what a person needs just by looking at them, then figuring out what Molli is looking for should be a cinch.
“Ah, I see,” the man says with a faint smile. His blue eyes shine. “Did you hear the story?”
Molli nods. The man crouches, rummaging again until he reappears with an old leather-bound book, the front of it emblazoned with a white bird. Molli’s eyes go wide when she accepts the book, flipping through it. It’s completely empty.
“For your stories,” says the man, smiling. Molli chirps out an ecstatic thank you, but Revali’s eyes narrow.
“How much?”
The man waves a hand. “No charge. I have too many things anyway.”
Revali doesn’t buy it — nothing is ever free. But Molli is already running off again, happily clutching her new notebook, and so Revali has no choice but to follow, leaving the weird Hylian behind.

Bear with me, this is long, and I am not a native English speaker.
So I guess unpopular? But I kinda like the lore that Gerudo are punished (for whatever dumb reason) to only have one bio male born. Why? Because I feel it is actually, even if by accident, critical of the Goddesses, or whichever God cast that curse, and their actions against the creatures living in Hyrule. You have an entire people who are cursed to only have one male born every 100 years, and for what reason? Because some God/Goddess('es) had their feelings hurt by some "insignificant" mortals. Even if they had a good reason to punish the Gerudo, what would that have been to cause such a brutal punishment? Because let's be real, the Gerudo would have died out, gone extinct, if the Gerudo weren't compatible with other races as partners, and I don't even know if that extends further than the Hylians, ie Zora, Rito or even Gorons and Zonai? So the punishment of the Gerudo isn't a waiting game of just completely reducing the male population and making it "one male Gerudo once every one hundred years" it's basically slow and painful extinction of their culture, their way of life, their entire species. Heck even with this one dude, the inbreeding would have killed them off even faster after a certain point. And yet, they survived, and even more surprising, their blood doesn't thin, since they only give birth to Gerudo even with Hylian partners, with seemingly no significant alterations to their race, and their ethnically distinct features. This punishment was meant to not only hit where it hurts, and kill them off, but also make it as humiliating as possible while it's happening; once again the inbreeding that would result from one single male born from their blood, for all the females of the same blood. My proposal as to why they survived? Maybe their belief in the Desert Goddess is what saved them. Maybe she's not a Goddess like Golden trio, or even Hylia, but a Goddess of the Gerudo's own making. Yeah the Desert Goddess couldn't lift the curse of another Goddess, but she is the deity of the Gerudo, and even if she can't lift the curse, she can make damn sure her people won't die such a humiliating extinction, and even continue to live on. Allow them to bear their daughters, healthy and of full Gerudo blood, make their spirits bow to no other race. You see this absolutely over the top punishment by a God, which punishes a race for not just a few generations, but implied millennia if not more to a sad and tragic extinction, because by design, that punishment should have lead to the complete extinction of the Gerudo. And for what? Why? We don't know. Maybe a punishment, maybe a cruel whim. Yet they still stand against that God and live. Maybe because of their own Goddess who loves and cares for her devotees, or because their will to survive was stronger. Who knows, but it tells a story of how cruel the Gods can be when a race in Hyrule doesn't seemingly follow the "perfect path" laid out before them. A path, and a punishment which not even they remember or even know about anymore. If we really think about it, the Gerudo are probably the most tragic race in Hyrule, and I wish their story had more depth to it. Even the Zonai aren't that heavily implied to have died due to tragedy, but rather succumbing to the naturally shifting and changing times. They kinda did the same in SkSw, with the really heavy and religiously unpleasant implication that one race is more "valuable" and worthy of survival than the rest. "The chosen race above all the others" always seemed kinda unpleasant to me. I know it's not framed like that, but I have too much time on my hands and a love for reading too deep into lore that's as shallow as a puddle. -affectionately.
I think you pointed out in the end what I'm hoping for. I don't mind seeing stories about a race of people that are doomed by the very Gods that created them. I think it makes for fascinating storytelling, especially when it's Ganondorf we're talking about. He actively fights what is supposed to be his "right" position in the world, which is to lower his head and submit to the race of people that are deemed blessed by the gods. He fights against that status quo and carves his own position of power in the world, dooming himself and his people to always be viewed as lesser in the eyes of the gods as a result. However, when it comes to the lore Nintendo crafts for this game, it's just the way that they frame this sort of storytelling that bothers me. Instead of using storytelling to examine why, for example, the idea that the Gerudo were only given pointed ears, the ability to hear the gods, because of either intermingling with Hylians or because they repented for birthing Ganondorf might be a sign that the Gods are not as just as they seem, they just brush it under the rug and frame it as simply being the order of the world. The gods created everything, and they by default grant their gifts to some people but not the others, and those that rebel and attempt to seize that gift for themselves from an unfavorable position are labelled as evil. They always briefly allude to it in the lore of the games in various ways, but they never do anything with it. In fact (and I think TotK is most egregious in this), they just sort of force feed you that you must accept that this, whatever it is you think, is good and this is bad, and don't question it further even though we drop little hints here and there that it's not so clear cut. The Gerudo are by far the worst treated of the races because you know, it's Ganondorf's race so I suppose it's warranted (according to LoZ's lore). If they would just, you know, do something better with this concept, explore a bit more deeply the human cost of divine artifacts and the concept of having a divinely favored race that is destined to rule over the others, but I don't see it happening. Consider me jaded ahahaha.

Chapter 1: The World that Turns
In the world of light, legends of a world parallel to their own are now nearly forgotten. Who would have believed the dark of legend would plot to enter where they don't belong.
Warning: Swearing, violence mentioned, let me know if I need to add more!
。☆✼★━━━━━━━━━━━━★✼☆。
The festival in Castle Town couldn't have happened on a more perfect three days. Perfect weather, light breezes with a full sun casting warmth on the kingdom of Hyrule. Birds tweeted happily, and villagers were loud in Castle Town.
Gorons, Zora, Hylians, Rito all setting up their stands or games for people to enjoy. Many chatting happily, more than pleased to be born in such a unified time in Hyrule's history.
A boy in green rushed through town, panting and rushing to meet with his friend. Link had slept in, again. And he had promised Zelda to be in the garden before noon. And the sun was already high in the sky.
Link panted, rushing through a back ally and to a large stone wall. Pulling out a basic grappling hood, he threw the rope up, letting the hood grab onto the top of the wall. He pulled and started to climb the wall, panting and grunting as he reached the top and hopped over. He looked around, stepping a few feet forward, seeing no one in the magnificent garden and gave a sigh of relief.
"Link!" Zelda's angry voice exclaimed, and Link jumped, dropping his grappling hook. "Why are you late?! Again?!"
Link turned to see the beautiful princess Zelda, her white and pink dress flowing softly with the breeze, blond hair swaying softly and circlet crown shining in the sun. "Zelda! I'm sorry, I slept in, I didn't mean too!" He said in a panic.
His old friemd sighed, face falling into something of sadness. "I apologize. I shouldn't have snapped at you. . ."
"You've been really stressed lately." Link said, frowning. "Do you. . . want to talk about it?"
Zelda nodded, walking away to a stone bench under a nearby tree. Link followed, and sat down after Zelda, not missing how her elf ears drooped. "I. . . must confess, I do not know how to explain this. Oh. . ." she paused "This is quite difficult. . . "
Pulling out an old dusty book, she showed it to Link. "See, recently- exactly a week ago, I was outside here, in the garden when I felt it. Have you ever . . . say. . . dropped a peice of glassware and somehow your parents know even though they were far away?"
Link nodded. "Yea, Mrs. Green somehow knew a broke a pot despite being in town."
Link lost his parents at a young age, and Mrs. Green took him in, teaching him how to garden and care for the earth around them. "These things are a gift from the goddesses." She'd tell him.
"Well, it was like that." Zelda explained. "I was outside, it was a perfect day, and there was still water from the previous night's rain when I felt it. Like something had entered Hyrule uninvited, something. . . Unwelcome, dark, evil. It's not as strong, as if it had left but still, I can feel it's presence Link. Like it left something behind. . ."
Link offered a hand to Zelda. She look at his calloused hand and then his face, to see a kind smile. "I don't doubt it. But today will be the first day of the festival. Let's not let things like taht ruin our moods."
Zelda smiled, and held his hand, her white glove now a little dirty from the dirt under his nails. "You're right. I should at least tell Impa, however."
Link nodded, "What's this book. anyways?" he asked, gesturing ro the book Zelda had brought with her. She took her hand back.
"An old book I found in a forgotten corner of the library, covered in dust. Its a book of old legends. I wanted to show you one." she said, gently opening it and flipping to her book mark. The page had a added painted picture of a dark landscape, covered in fire and death. "It tells about a world that is parallel to our own. This world, the Dark world as this book calls it, has no heavenly guidance and the things that live there have no morals. They did awful things, and attempted to take over the light world. They were defeated by a hero in ancient times and the dark world was closed." Zelda explained. Link nodded, but Zelda only closed the book. "It only speaks of the evil crimes committed, but not of the reason why. That troubles me, even if it truly is a mere story you tell to children so they behave. . ."
A voice called to them, ans Lady Impa appeared, the middle aged sheika still so beautiful and strong, white hair in a bun and sheika armour on. She was a powerful woman, and despite her looks and strength and standing in the royal family, she refused to marry, instead choosing to help raise Zelda.
"Impa!" Zelda said, standing up and leaving the book where she had been sitting. Link followed behind, smiling and bowed to Impa. "Oh, did father decide to let me go to the festival this year?"
Impa smiled, and Zelda beamed, letting out a small squeal before grabbing Link's hand. Link blushed, his ears turning pink as Zelda rushed into the castle. "Lets go, Link! I wnat to see all the nice things there!"
"Now wait a minute, Princess." Impa said, appearing in front of the two. "Your father said I have to accompany you, and that we must wait until he his done with his meeting before you can go." Zelda's ears fell, and Impa continued. "It is only for your safety. He cares for your well being. I promise you will get to see everything that this festival has to offer. Have patience."
Zelda nodded and turned back to Link. "Lets go back outside. It is truly a gorgeous day today." she said, dragging him back outside to the sunlight. . .
»»————- ★ ————-««
The Dark world was rarely ever warm. Hot, blistering hot from a volcanic eruption, yes, but it was usually always cool. You'd have to wear some outwear to even go into town, it was always like this. There was no sun, only a moon that would go from full to empty through the hours and then ful again. And occasionally, it would become red. casting the land in crimson colored light.
Unity always had been scarce, and often times forced to keep what little peace there was in the dark world, the fire breathing monsters of Death Mountain, for example, never got along with the monsters and inhabitants of the shadow forest, either the fire kind trying to ignite the forest or the forest monsters messing with teh structer of death mountain. Creatures of the sky always fighting with the village piglins, hoglins and shadow people and the Ku.
It was always difficult to share as well, as food was hard to grow and come by, trees were always empty or dead, or poisonous. Water was heavily guarded by the Ku as well.
However, there were the ones in charge of each region of the Dark world, the strongest of all monsters. The Overlords. Each one ruled over every section of the Dark World.
Speaking of the Overlords, the lead overlord had called a meeting, an urgent one. He was in his palace in the Dark mountains, his main area of rule. He was considered the head of the overlords, as he was created by the God of destruction. Ghirahim made sure to act like it to.
Zant, the overlord of twilight and ruler of the twilight zone, walked through the halls of Ghirahim's palace, his gold shoes tapping agaisnt the floor and his long sleeves following behind him as he walked. Yuga was with him, cape flowing behind him, a circlet with a single stone on his orange hair. Yuga was the overlord of the fallen kingdom of Lorule.
"Zant, I must say," Yuga started, glancing at thr man in thr helmet, "It has been a long while since we have gathered like this. When was the last time we gathered?"
"Two years ago." Zant said "the Zazaks and Hinoxs tryed to dig through Death mountain to the Dark mountains.".
Yuga laughed "Oh Zant! I always aspire to have your memory!" he paused, and hummed hearing the flapping of insects. The men turned to see a swarm of Black and red butterflies and dragonflies approaching. They became a group and formed into the overlord of nature, Reader.
"Reader! Old friend!" yuga said, excited to see the nymph. "Is that a new flower crown? I must say, I will need an exact copy of it for my newest painting!"
"I appreciate you noticing." Reader said, bare feet touching the cold floor, thin clothing made of cotten adored with vines and berries. "I worked hard on growing the new species."
They joined the two overlords in their journey through the halls. These three seemed to get along the best, despite their cruel natures. "I must say-" Reader began "The weed walkers are growing up just nicely, they've learned how to echo locate. I feel like a proud parent."
"That sound wonderful, Reader." Zant said, still looking straight forward. The trio turned and began to climb up a set of spiral stairs to the meeting room.
Reader opened the door, letting the other two enter first. Looking in, they saw Cole, the overlord of energy and head of the train systems in the Dark world. He smiled, his horns freshly polished, for with it looked like. "Ah! Zant, Yuga, how wonderful it is to see you both again! Reader, it is always so refreshing to see someone using their manners!"
"Cole." Reader said, walking over and shaking his stretched out hand, "It is always nice to see you. How are the mines?"
He smiled again, letting out a laugh. "Wonderful, they've found many veins of fuel and metal! In the mist of our mineral crisis, it is such a relief to find."
Reader took their hand back and saw Zant and Yuga sitting down. They went to it in their chair, between Zant and where Ghirahim was supposed to sit. "Where is Ghirahim?" Reader asked, Cole grinned.
"He left to speak to Maud, I believe. Something about a change of clothes." Cole said. Reader hummed, and grew some vines out of their hand, and started to fidget eith the thorns.
The doors opened and Ghirahim entered, swaggering over to his chair and sitting down. "Ah, how wonderful ut is to see you all once more. Where is Vaati?"
"Hasn't arrived." Cole said "I believe he is planing on skipping this meeting."
Ghirahim growled at Vaati's insolence, the missing overlords actions taken as an insult. Reader's ears fell in disappointment. "Ah. . . I see. . ." They said.
"Chin up, sweetie." Yuga said "It is not a big deal, besides, he doesn't deserve your respect."
Suddenly, a glass window slammed opened and the wind picked up, making hair fly and clothing flap until the overlord of wind and ruler of the sky, Vaati, materialize in the room. Reader's ears perked up and the others make a form of being displeased.
"Vaati." Ghirahim started, watching the wind mage sit down in his chair "You're late."
"Duely noted." The purple haired mage said "However, I am here now, am I not?"
Zant spoke up. "Shall we begin the meeting, then?" he suggested, not wanting anyone to start a fight. silence before Ghirahim cleared his throat.
"I'd like to start by saying that the west ocean is starting to haul less food than before, and even that was in need of rationing. Reader," he started, and Reader snapped out of their staring at Vaati "Is there anything you can do about this?"
Reader sighed and shook their head. "Unfortunately, no. If I could create new aquatic life, I'd have to use a sun stone to do so if I want to make non-predatory fish. However, who the mineral crisis happening, I'm afraid I cannot."
Ghirahim huffed "Alright then. Well. . . Other than the flying monsters slowly going out of control-" he glared at Vaati "I shall tell you the reason why I have called you all here."
The room became tense, and all eyes were on Ghirahim. "A week ago, a door to the Light word was opened."
Gasps came from Reader and Cole, Zant sat up straighter, Yuga let our a soft "Excuse me?!" and Vaati -for once- payed full attention to Ghirahim, eyes wide.
"That isn't possible!" Yuga exclaimed, "The only door to the Light world was destroyed eons ago by the old residents of Lorule! Are you saying there was a second door built?!"
"I'm not saying g that exactly." Ghirahim said "I'm saying that somehow, somewhere, an entrance to the Light world was opened. It may have been a door or a portal was ripped open. Either way, a way out of this dying world was made."
Reader squealed a bit. "Oh that is wonderful! Ah, if we could get our hands on such wonderful, such powerful light magic, think of how well off our people will be! The crops would grow again, and fish populations would grow, and think of how the mines and the living beings would prosper!"
"If we could get our hands on the power in that world," Vaati started, "I cannot even begin to imagine the boundless amounts of power I could hold and learn!"
"How do we know this isn't a hoax?" Zabt said suddenly. "If a way to the world of light has truly opened, then how come the Twili haven't become ill or empowered by the influence of power?"
"Then it is most likely a door." Cole said "portals are harder to keep contained, but the doors can lock themselves close. That means we can invade that Light world and take what ever we can!"
Chatter rose up in volume, but Reader tryed to speak up. "But what of our people?! They are not ready to fight a war!"
Their voice was drowned out, until Vaati's wind spiked, whipping around the room, silencing all. Vaati looked at Reader, and their face turned a bit red. "What were you saying?"
"u-um." the started "Thank you, Lord Vaati. If we go to war, with our people nearly on the brick of starvation and so unhappy, wouldn't taht hurt the people and us more?"
Zant spoke "We shall make do. In the end, the power we shall have will be much worth it."
The meeting dragged on, the overlord creating a plan to scout the land for the enter center to the light world, ans lasted until the moon was almost pitch black.
The overlords were departing, Vaati santering to a window when Reader's voice spoke to him. "Lord Vaati." Theysaid, he turned, glaring. "May I speak to you?"
He thought for a moment but agreed, following them to an empty room. Vaati stood near the window, tapping his foot. "Well? What is it? I am a busy king."
Reader lit up brighter than the moon, flowers blooming on their flower crown as Reader told him what they had been dying to tell him all meeting.
"I opened the door to the light world. I know where it is."
。☆✼★━━━━━━━━━━━━★✼☆。
Uh oh! A door to the world of light has been found and opened?! This isn't good!
I hope you enjoyed this chapter, have a good day/ night!
The idea of Overlords came from Hazbin Hotel.

Things totk did well:
-making you feel you had a tangible impact on the world by having the 4 towns change significantly after you defeated the dungeons
-giving you new things to do in an old world
-expanded the human/sentient species settlements in ways that felt logical
Things totk did badly:
-created a forced plot that tried too hard to mimic botw in structure instead of creating its own plot the flowed naturally from botw instead of introducing wildly new stuff
-did many characters dirty and forced them to gain positions that didn’t make sense (Sidon, yunobo)
-did zelda in particular super badly and basically repeated her character arc as someone who doesn’t have a handle on her powers (first with the goddess powers, then her time powers), sets herself up to do a big sacrifice for her people bc she’s the only one who can, and is miraculously alive at the end so link can save her and then not get to experience the reward of HAVING SAVED THE WORLD AND HIS BEST FRIEND. like come ON her whole arc is basically being reused when she has so much potential! She is a researcher she could be doing so much that she isn’t. She had her arc of learning self worth (to an extent) so cmon game.
-overall did players from botw dirty by erasing a majority of your achievements by having characters not know who you were, in addition to not letting you experience the fullness of postgame botw (including getting to vibe with Zelda). I understand you need to have space for new players but new players should be able to understand link is a character in the world and they can reference the fact that, unlike in botw, he’s lived in this world for a few years and is going to HAVE MET PEOPLE BEFORE. even a passing reference. Come on.
-made some bosses feel like a joke when others were super cool. Gerudo and Rito felt awesome, and the bosses are intimidating. (Although gerudo feel a little more incompetent than they should be). Zora’s story of the muck is ok and overall acceptable, but the boss’s design is so fucking stupid it makes the whole thing feel like a joke. and Gorons are treated like a joke from the start, although the final boss is decent and fits the vibes of the gerudo and rito bosses better than the Zoe’s one
-continues some questionable themes in general from past games that can lean into racist or sexist portrayal of species/characters

You know, I think it's high time someone said this when it comes to the Zelda series. It's time we as fans accept the fact that the timeline does not matter to the developers and only really matters to us. We need to stop trying to find justification for so and so in BotW or TotK because flat out it does not matter. If we care so much we should simply accept BotW and TotK are their own timeline, seperate from the others. Spoiler warning for TotK further in.
Really you need look no further than them supposedly saying BotW occurs at the end of any of the three timelines. Anyone who knows their lore and game events would know BotW could not possibly occur in adult timeline without massive world shifting. Hyrule itself was flooded and sealed away when Ganondorf broke free from the Sacred Realm because they had no hero, no one who could wield the Master Sword to defeat him. The zora evolved into the rito presumably forcibly so by the gods so they could not simply survive the flood or have access to the sealed Hyrule. And when the events of Wind Waker resolved, it saw the flood of Hyrule finished. Hyrule was no longer "sealed" it was lost forever as was the Master Sword since it would remain in Ganondorf's petrified corpse as the last vestiges of the land Hyrule flooded.
The Great Sea itself would need to recede entirely. The zora would need to evolve again from the rito and split leaving both races to exist seperately. Finally, the newly established Hyrule would have to be abandoned. The world would need to change far too much to justify BotW's existence in this timeline. The developers know this or should, yet they did not try to exclude it from possiblilty.
Now to TotK spoilers, BotW's world was so heavily influenced by Sheikah tech and yet in TotK the major aspects of that techs very existense are nowhere to be found. The Sheikah shrines have all disappeared, the Divine Beasts themselves are completely gone and the game leaves no clues as to what happened to any of them. The game really feels like it's trying to be a BotW sequel but while also sweeping BotW under the rug, events of BotW exist where convenient for the narrative of TotK. Don't get me wrong, TotK is fun and I enjoy it but storywise and lorewise? It really took the piss.
Maybe it's just me and a whole bunch of other longtime Ganondorf fans but I really would have liked to see TotK finally acknowledge that the "divine right" the royal family possesses to be questioned by the actual population. I would have liked people to decide maybe they don't want a monarchy anymore which I feel would be 100% supported by this Zelda because her most of her life has essentially never truly been hers because of it.
And finally, Ganondorf. The man himself. I don't even know where to start. Honestly, I'm annoyed they really leaned back into the "evil for evils sake" shit again for him. They almost touched on him being resentful of Rauru's attempted control but it's nothing more than a drop in the bucket. We see little else beyond Rauru's meager acknowledgement of his arrogance which was hardly showcased at all. They didn't do much at all to highlight any negative traits from Rauru. And this isn't story related but, I feel like I might be the only person who does not care for Matt Mercer as Ganondorf. I love Matt Mercer, he's a fantastic VA and wonderful person but something about him as Ganondorf bothers me in a way I cannot put into words.
To finish, I think the team behind Zelda was never really fond of the timelines, especially not the way we were. The games were all really meant to stand on their own feat regardless of other entries and this consequently hurts TotK in that it feels like a huge chunk of its own world was cut from it and cast away with no explanation. We're supposed to take the new and forget about the old even though that "old" was a major part of its world. It's absurd.

LoZ Ask Game!
🎮 Favorite Zelda game?
I'm gonna condense your other three asks into this one, if that's cool! 👍 Oooh, and a pretty tough one to start!
I think at this point... It's a tie between Ocarina of Time & Twilight Princess, for me. I love BotW and Skyward Sword, but I also struggle to play them, personally. MM is another game I could gush about forever! But me playing it, personally... It's a struggle, too.
OoT got me loving LoZ, and it's a classic, "safe" game for me. Incredibly comforting and easy to get back into! Whereas TP's wolf Link holds a dear place in my heart, the dark, glowing style is charming (especially in the HD remake), Midna is SUCH a fun companion (in retrospect, the evolution to who Tatl was), and I really enjoy Zant, too. Everything design-wise of TP delights me!
...I could probably add Wind Waker to this, but I don't play it as much as the other two!! Maybe someday... (And when my bias for Zora finally chills out. The Rito are cool and Medli is one of my faves, but... I really do still prefer the Zora!)
😤 Any Zelda-related Pet Peeves?
I have weirdly strong beef with "wrong takes" over my favorite characters and theories, kdfhjdks-
For example, there were theories when Tetraforce was still popular, over how the fourth goddess could've been the Gerudo's Goddess of Sands or the Goddess of Time mentioned in MM. Both of these are wrong to me, and I wonder how an "evil" goddess could've been overlooked!? (How else did Demise come to be?? All his people?! He ranks the same as Hylia to me, so it's weird that he's treated as a "god" in his own right...)
A character example has been Ruto, with an extra dose of Personal™ cause I had this thought when I was younger...but the misunderstanding of her character. Mostly trying to say she's "only" love-focused when her growth as an "adult" was...honestly quite mature. Yes, she still had feelings for Link (and acknowledged them at their reuniting & when she ascended as a Sage), but also acknowledged that this wasn't the time for any of that; her people were in danger and saving the Temple was MUCH more important.
Also, maaaybe judging someone based on their bratty, 10-year old attitude (as a spoiled princess, no less) is. Hmm. Misguided? For such a stubborn, brat of a kid, she grew up really well and changed herself; likely without much aid of the adults around her. That should be appreciated more.
👊 Favorite Zelda Villain/Boss?
...Nevermind, THIS is the tough question! A favorite boss?! I have to pick one...?! I'll certainly try...
Tumblr media
I would have to say Majora's Mask. Yes, the whole end boss fight, not even any particular form. As both a villain and a boss fight, they're just... Incredible. Truly summarizing the special brand of horror and mayhem you've dealt with in the titular game. The cause of all problems...and with their death, the end of it, too. It's poetic in a way.
Though I'll give some honors, too, to Bongo-Bongo, Demise, and [Wind Waker] Ganondorf. Bongo-Bongo I have a whole origin theory on, who gives a lot for people to think about. (Given the temple he resides within.) Demise was cool as hell, but I mostly hype up the beginning of all things LoZ (the reincarnation cycle) and the stage for the fight itself... And Wind Waker Ganondorf is one of- if not THE best- Ganondorf of the series. None have yet lived up to his depth of character, and it highlights his madness and brutal end all the more for it, I feel.

Flying
“Link… I usually don’t question your decisions, but I am not sure if we should do this…”
Worriedly, Sidon looked down the Lanayru Tower. It was rather… high. Being an aquatic creature made him by nature water and land bound. While he had a rather adventurous side on him, climbing up tall buildings and structures usually wasn’t part of it. His webbed feet and hands simply weren’t meant for climbing. And yet, here he was. Looking down the tower, the ground being dozens of meters away.
It had been Link’s idea – he had said that he wanted to show his friend (were they really just friends?) one of his biggest joys in this life: flying.
Zora… Zora weren’t meant for the sky, though. (‘And neither are Hylians,’ Link had signed smugly.)
‘Don’t you trust me?’
Now, that was just not playing fair.
“Of course, I trust you! There is no one I trust more than you!” Sidon endorsed.
‘Then trust me on this, you’ll love it!’
Sidon didn’t look convinced.
It was during one of their long talks that Link had expressed this idea and it went somewhat like this:
~
‘Sidon, have you ever flown?’
“Well, since I am a Zora and not a Rito, I can’t say that I have!”
‘If you ever were able to… would you like to try it?’
“Of course, at the first chance I get!”
~
And that was how he now found himself standing way too high above the ground, an eager Hylian with a paraglider in front of him.
Sidon’s guts were coiling inside; maybe they tied a bow around one of his organs as if to be presented as a gift. Once his body hit the ground and cracked open to display his innards, maybe one of the local carnivores would take them as such.
‘Just grab the handle right next to my hands and hold tight. It is way easier than it looks!’
Sidon fidgeted in a very un-princely manner.
“Are you sure this thing can hold us both? I am way heavier than you are, dear friend.” He hated how the nervousness was palpable in his voice.
Link laughed. Despite all the hardship he had been through, endearing crinkles of laugh lines were forming around his eyes; they made the prince’s heart beat even harder than a few moments before.
Dear Hylia, he was royalty! If his most treasured friend (the Hero of Hyrule and the wielder of the Master Sword at that) said it was going to be alright, then it was going to be alright!
Biting his lower lip one more time, he squared his shoulders.
It would be alright.
“Alright, dear friend. Show me how it’s done.”
Link’s smile was almost blinding.
‘Alright, step behind me and grab the handle just as I said. Count to three and once you reach 'three' we jump off. ’
Link’s features softened around his smile.
‘Don’t worry, if this can take a Goron, it can definitely take us. Just trust me.’
Sidon nodded.
He positioned himself behind Link, feeling the other’s body heat warming his own chilled skin. Sidon couldn’t tell whether the height or the proximity to Link made his heart beat in a staccato rhythm.
“Alright… one… two…”
Sidon’s heart almost jumped into his throat.
“Three.”
Together they pushed off the railing and jumped towards the great depths beneath.
They only fell for the split of a second, but to Sidon it felt like a little eternity.
And then – once the air caught the paraglider’s wings - they were flying.
Sidon couldn’t believe it.
The cold wind blew over his face and finally, his heart didn’t feel like trying to break out of its boney cage.
The heat of Link’s body in front of him and the cold of the crispy air surrounding them made for a delicious mixture.
A laugh was ripped out of his chest; they were flying!
The birds curiously swarming them scattered away, frightened by the unfamiliar sound.
Sidon didn’t care.
He felt free. He felt like nothing could stop him, his dreams, his ambitions.
~
It was over way too soon.
Sidon was overwhelmed by all the feelings inside his body.
When Link turned around back on the ground, with an all-consuming grin painting his face, there was only one thing Sidon wanted to do.
He grabbed the Hero by the face and dragged him towards himself, letting their lips connect.

A Helping Wing
Quick Revali scenario, I have had this idea for some time now and I’m finally posting it lol. Anyway enjoy soft, worried Revali!
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild
Revali x Reader
Summary: A trip to Goron City gets an unexpected turn with an even more unexpected reaction from the Rito Champion.
Notes: Injury
Tumblr media
The scorching heat that dominated the air on the way to Death Mountain would have been unbearable if it weren’t for the fireproof elixirs you had made well in advance. Still, the hot air had its effect on you as you found yourself wiping tiny beads of sweat from your forehead every now and then as you walked along the rocky path. You could only imagine how the thickly feathered Rito behind you was most likely suffering from the heat much more than you were.
“Remind me again why are we on this absolutely horrendous trip to Goron City in the first place,” Revali complained behind you, eyebrows frowned in annoyance. A part of you knew that this would happen. Knowing him, just about any small nuisance in his way made his beak spill out words of irritation. All you could do was sigh.
“Daruk got seriously injured and Mipha requested us to bring her some supplies so she could heal him faster,” you explained, though had already done so when you initially started your trip to the city. You threw him a quick glance. “Without these, the process could take days.” You lifted the bag on your shoulder that held the herbs and potions the young Zora had asked for. Revali merely scoffed.
“Well, if this is such an important mission, why are we wasting our time on foot when we have two perfectly operational wings right here?” He motioned to his wings with his eyes. “Surely we would get there faster and be done with this cumbersome task.” You let out a laugh, keeping your eyes forward.
“As if you would let me climb on your precious little back,” you mocked. If there was something you knew about Revali is that he had too much pride in, well, everything, so you knew that what he was implying was practically impossible. Even if he was willing to let go of his ego in this rare, inconvenient situation, there was a problem with his idea. “Besides, the herbs would just fly out and burn if we’re that high up.” You turned around to look at him.
“We’re almost there. Just hang in there a little longer."
Revali clicked his tongue but eventually sighed, accepting your words. Despite his exasperation, you were right. Even with the effects of the elixir, flying high surrounded by the hot air would do damage to the precious contents of your bag, but also to him and you. His feathers would probably catch fire and that was the last thing he wanted. So, he continued to walk behind you, muttering miffed words under his breath.
As you pressed on under the extreme temperature, something quickly caught your eye. You stopped and Revali looked at you, raising his brow in confusion before your voice came through.
“Bokoblins.” You nodded towards the creatures. “Four of them.” They danced around as they usually did without a care in the world. The Rito crossed his wings.
“Nothing you can’t handle,” he stated, his words making you look at him in bewilderment.
“Me? Are you not going to help?” You purposely kept your voice down, as the Bokoblins hadn’t yet detected either of you. Your question was met with a smug smirk that stretched the edges of his beak.
“I am rather exhausted from this awful heat, and I’d rather let you do the honors, seeing as you seem to be quite determined in getting to the city in the first place.” You couldn’t believe his words. Revali was many things, but lazy was something you could have never expected. There was the possibility that he was telling the truth, but the pompous grin on his face made you doubt this. However, he was right in saying that defeating a few Bokoblins was no difficult task.
“Fine,” You spat and tossed the bag of supplies at him before grabbing your bow, a part of you regretting the decision to ask him to come with you in the first place. “I really hate you, you know?” Revali held the bag and took a few steps back, the smirk never fading from his face.
“The feeling is mutual.”
With a roll of your eyes, you turned away from him, your eyes gluing themselves on your target. The Bokoblins were in a nice little pile, so taking them out would be easy. However, you could feel Revali’s judging eyes boring into your back, watching your every move. At this point, you thought that he may have abstained from helping you just to see how you would do with the bow and then possibly mock you for an incorrect technique only he could see.
You shook the thought away. Now was not the time to worry about Revali’s judgment. Your only task was to bring the supplies to Mipha and not pay attention to his foolishness. Still, in the back of your mind, some part of you wanted to impress him for whatever reason, so you attempted to take all of the Bokoblins out at once.
Revali watched as you prepared for your attack, that arrogant smirk still apparent. His eyes watched as you gripped the bow, how you tested the string and how you finally grabbed an arrow from your quiver and-
Suddenly, his expression changed to a panicked one as his widened eyes noticed the grave mistake you had made that took the form of the arrow you had chosen: A bright red, sizzling bomb arrow.
Revali quickly jumped into the air and grabbed the back of your shirt with his talons, pulling you away from the massive explosion caused by the arrow and the surrounding air. Your eyes widened at the blast, and you instinctively shielded yourself with your arms as you were pulled back before feeling your back slam against an armored chest.
The Rito stumbled back and fell to the rocky ground, softening your fall by having you land on his chest. The sound rang in your ears and you squeezed your eyes shut and only opened them once you couldn’t feel the heat of the flames any longer. You blinked and looked at your burned bow that laid on the ground, the Bokoblins fleeing the sight, frightened by the loud noise. It had all happened so fast, you only realized your mistake when Revali opened his beak:
“Are you out of your mind?!” He yelled behind you, voice filled with anger and concern. “You could have gotten both of us killed! How could you possibly think using a bomb arrow at a place like this was a good idea?!” You slowly stood up, still shaken by the accident.
“Are you truly that foolish? That you don’t know that a bomb arrow will explode as soon as it makes contact with the hot air?”
Of course you knew. In the heat of the moment, you hadn’t even realized that you had grabbed a bomb arrow and now you were scolded by your stupid mistake. Your eyes found the ground below you, embarrassment settling in your stomach. “I’m sorry... I just... I didn’t even realize,” You said, trying to somehow explain your actions, though you were more taken aback by his reaction. You had never heard him use his voice in such a manner.
A sigh left Revali’s beak as he tried to calm himself down. Truthfully, he didn’t fully know why he reacted in such a fiery manner.
“You’re hurt,” he finally said. You looked up at him and saw his eyes glued to your arm. Then you felt the burning pain on it. A significant piece of fabric from your sleeve was burned, the jagged hole revealing your reddened skin that sent waves of pain and discomfort throughout the rest of your arm. You hissed in pain and grabbed the abused area with your other hand.
You noticed Revali grabbing something from a bag of his own and motioning you to sit on a rock conveniently placed on the side of the road. You took his offer and sat down, fighting back tears that threatened to fall from your eyes. You glanced at Revali, who carried a white, jiggly blob of... something in his wing while walking towards you.
“What is that?” You asked, keeping your eyes on the unknown substance.
“White Chuchu jelly.” Revali kneeled beside you, expression neutral, rid of any signs of arrogance or judgment. “It should help with the burn,” he stated, pressing the jelly on the surface of your arm, the cool temperature of it immediately easing your pain. You let out a shaky breath.
“Why do you even have that?” You were unable to look at him, something inside you making your stomach churn. You felt his wings wrapping a bandage around your arm, the jelly staying on your skin.
“Well, I would have used it to cool myself off, but it appears that you need it more than I do after that ridiculous stunt you pulled.” You clicked your tongue in annoyance.
“I said I didn’t realize what I was doing I just-”
“Didn’t pay attention,” he interrupted. You were about to argue but after realizing that he was correct, you let out a heavy sigh instead. Revali finished wrapping your wound and stood up, briefly glancing at your destroyed bow.
“What a waste,” he sighed, walking back to the bags, relieved to see the supplies still intact. You stood up, looking at your bandaged arm and then at him. Despite his somewhat rude and cocky exterior, he apparently cared about you enough to at least tend to your wound when he technically didn’t need to. You couldn’t help but smile.
“Thank you, Revali.”
The Rito briefly stopped what he was doing, likely processing your words. You couldn’t see his face, so his expression was left a mystery. He on the other hand was grateful you didn’t witness the feathers on his face puff up ever so slightly. The accident startled him more than he would have liked to admit and was grateful that he was able to pull you out in time.
“Don’t thank me yet,” he finally said, regaining his usual attitude. He stood up and picked both bags up from the ground.
“We haven’t reached our destination yet and I clearly misjudged your abilities, who knows what ridiculous mistake you might make next.” For the first time, you let out a tiny laugh at his words, following him as he began walking.
“Well, I guess asking for your assistance in this little task of mine wasn’t such a terrible idea after all.”
Revali chuckled and shook his head at your words, his usual arrogance embedded in his response:
“Oh, (Name).” His glimmering eyes glanced at you, smirk once again decorating his features.
“What would you do without me?”

So I Don’t Forget Again: A Breath of The Wild fanfiction
Entry 208: Zora’s Domain
 Sidon made me breakfast. He made things I had taught him to make back at Hateno, he had to wake up very early to get the ingredients on time. He tried to hide it, but I could see he was a little sleepy through the whole day, he’s had such little rest. I really appreciate this, him just focusing on me, almost like there’s nothing else, but I don’t want him to push himself. Though I want to thank him all the same. He just makes me feel so special and safe, in a way unlike anything else, I guess. I feel like he really sees me, like he truly wants me. I don’t know how to describe this, but I want to. I want to pour these feelings into these pages, have him read this so he can know just how much he means to me, how he’s an irreplaceable part of my life, how he
I just want him to know as amazing as he finds me, I find him to be just the same. He’s much more eloquent with words than me, so maybe he’d know how to write this, but I want to at least try, even if this is just kinda incoherent thoughts by now.
We went to market, it’s a bit away from town, but that’s because it’s more of a trading area so Hylians and Gorons and others can get there easier than going through the canyon to the town. We did some shopping but we heard a lot of rumors. A new hero appearing, one who couldn’t be the reincarnated one. A hero who did not wield the blade of evil’s bane but a trident, instead of working in service of the princesses, or royalty, or goddess they worked for the people, a blond gender ambiguous Hylian who slew a massive, fearsome beast all to get ingredients for a medicine for a gerudo woman’s sick husband they didn’t even know, a person who helped the descendants of the champions calm all the Divine Beasts soon after their rampages began, a person who is a brother to the strong gorons, a person who had begun to teach others how to fend for themselves, on and on it went, even false or exaggerated tales. They were all about one simple person who served the people for their sake and nothing else. This person was not grand or flashy, they were only recognized since tridents are an uncommon weapon and even more uncommon for hylians outside of the royal family to be blond, two odd, eye catching characteristics and people made the connections from there. Sidon told me it just seemed fitting that the “Hero of the People” would wish to use all his peoples’ fighting styles, a person who was strong with all their power, their best qualities united.
I guess it is fitting. Before being the chosen hero or whatever felt like a burden, but this time, it felt different, it didn’t feel bad, like there’s this cumbersome weight I just can’t carry. I’m being called a hero for things I have done already, not things I’m expected to do, I think that’s the difference. I think Sidon could tell too. He admitted he was a little nervous about this, but if I did react badly, he wanted to be beside me so he could comfort me and not have me over hear this some other place far away and for my thoughts to go dark again. And we had the whole day to be together so we could do something fun to get my mind off it.
We had a lovely walk back. Bossa Nova kept trying to steal some of the ingredients we ended up running part of the way as he chased us. He even tried nibbling on my hair to get my attention. Sidon tried scolding him, but Bossa Nova didn’t care. After gifting a Hearty Radish he calmed down, but Sidon said I shouldn’t spoil him, that he’ll just take advantage of that and eat through all my non-meat supplies sooner or later. But then he just looked at me for a moment, smiled and shook his head before turning back to the trail ahead. When I asked him what that meant he told me he couldn’t find my behavior endearing and that I need to learn how to say ‘no’ sometimes. I guess he is a prince, he has to make decisions for his people, and he’ll likely have to say ‘no’ sometimes, but how can you say no to a cute hungry capybara! Besides I don’t think he would have stopped trying to knock us over till he was fed so I don’t think it could have been THAT bad. Just a treat. He’s a good boy, he needs the love. Sidon then gasped and said this must be why Bossa Nova likes me more now. It was clear he was play acting, playing up the moment but his reaction did get Bossa Nova to charge at him and knock him into the river for hugs. Much of the fruit started floating down river and it took a while to collect it all.
We cooked lunch together, a fusion between Rito and Zora cuisine. I always love cooking with him, well I just like cooking, but especially with him. Food reflects it’s culture and traditions, cooking is literally making something to help the other keep living and making it enjoyable all the while. I don’t think I need food, not anymore at least, but I can still enjoy it, making it and tasting it with others. Eating and cooking with others feels different than on your own, it only makes sense, food reflects people and so more people would surely make it taste better. All this to say I just really enjoyed lunch. And Bossa Nova still ate his meal so giving him his treat was not spoiling him! He didn’t eat his whole thing though, but that’s not the point! He still ate it… I guess it’s because I don’t get hungry I don’t see the point in having scheduled meals. Sidon said that was not the point, the point being Bossa Nova acting bratty to get whatever he wants. But could it be so bad, all he ever wants is food or extra affection.
Sidon asked if I knew how long I can hold my breath for. Much of his kingdom is underwater and he wanted to show more of it to me. Zoras really are made for the water, even the shape of their heads are kind of like arrows so they can effortlessly pierce through it. I know fish need fins to swim, I wonder how fins help Zora swim. They’re just stunning racing past, or at least Sidon is. Even with my complete zora armor set swimming can be a struggle but for him it’s effortless, he can go in circles and make twists and turns so quickly. Light seems much starker underwater, either bright or dark, I notice his glowy parts much more, I still can’t tell if they’re always glowing or if the glow activates when he’s in shade.
His home underwater looks similarish to land with similar plants, but there are also very different ones I don’t even know where to begin describing them. Some are kind of like flat dishes and others more spindly, then there are others that are wrinkly, I’ve never seen plants like those in the rivers before. There are some like stone, Sidon says they’re called coral and are plants oddly enough. Many of these only grow in the domain, but there are similar ones in the ocean. I wondered if any could be used in cooking, as they are plants zoras have never tried and Sidon was rather keen on assisting me if I tried working with them.
His kingdom underwater is so much larger than on the surface. Sidon and his people could so easily be separated from the rest of the world and be just fine. Their most important places like the throne room are on the surface so others can more easily reach them. That is something he’s always had been so appreciative of his ancestors for doing. His people, they’ve always been distant from the rest of Hyrule whether they lived solely underwater or some place out of reach or hidden away, of all times this current era is likely the closest they have been to others even with being separated by a distant canyon still. He doesn’t like this distance, even if it is better than before. After the champions fell and the hylians had no leader, everyone mostly went their own ways and more of a divide was created between everyone, sure there’s trade and the mail service but other than that, nothing, no alliance promises or at least documents stating they were at peace with one another, there’s nothing except for the few individuals who sought out pay from others, that’s why he finds what I’m doing to be so incredible. This legend I’m making just by being myself, becoming something or someone everyone can connect too or want to strive for. A kind of hero he could only have dreamed of. I told him I can’t do anything like uniting everyone, I’ve just lived with them and gotten to know them, he however, someone who knows how to lead others, someone who can understand and relate to others so easily or through his sheer determination, his hunger to know others better, wanting those connections, he could become someone who could lead and unite hyrule. He told me uniting hyrule again was going to be a monumental task, surely one he could not handle on his own, he’d definitely need someone who’s on good terms with everyone, and more importantly a partner by his side, someone he could lean on during the rough days, someone who could emotionally support him and just be by his side, just someone precious to him to keep close.
How tenderly he held my hands and stroked them with his thumbs, and just that way he looked at me. I don’t know what I was feeling but it was so warm, and soft, and like my chest was fluttering. Just… how he wants me, not just for what I can do, he just wants me. He wants me to be there because he just wants to share his life with me, I just happen to get some additional satisfaction since I know I get to help, but even if I couldn’t I KNOW he’d want me to be there with him and it just…
It means so much to me.
Today was just so nice.
After leading me to my room he collapsed on the bed. I don’t know about him, but I know swimming definitely takes a lot of energy and he was already working with little sleep, at least this way I know for certain he’s getting rest. I hope nobody comes here looking for him. For now, I guess I should get some sleep myself.

No Feathers To Compare
Revali X Reader (Breath of the Wild)
Ahhhhh I’m back. I hope I wrote Revali well because I enjoyed writing him. Gah excuse my nervousness.
_________________________________________
Truly, the Rito were beautiful and majestic beings. With their colorful wings that flap through the sky, their vivid culture, the structure of their homes that hung up, their pride, their history. You loved everything about it, but you were never one to wish to be apart of it. You were perfectly content being a Hylian.
So why are you cursing everything about yourself now? Why are you staring down at your featherless, stubby hands in such disappointment?
It's because it wasn't what HE wanted. It wasn't like her red wings that glowed like fire under the sun. No one would give a second glance at you when her feathers were busy shining. The way she gracefully glides through the air, the sophisticated way she speaks, her graceful use of the bow. Everything about her was perfect.
But then again, everything about the Rito were beautiful in your eyes, right? Why was this even a surprise?
Why was it even a surprise when you saw Revali and her alone, conversating on one of the hills near Rito Village? He only rested on there when he wanted to relax and be alone.
When you witnessed them, you hid and ran back to Rito stable. You purchased a bottle of fresh milk from a traveling merchant and sat by the fire to think. Should you just leave Hebra and go back home? Sticking around here felt wrong. But were you really gonna leave unannounced? No. You couldn't do that to your friend.
You remove your hands from the fire and take another swig of milk, drawing out a sigh.
It felt wrong to feel bitter over something you should have thought about more before. It's one thing to be in love with a Rito, but another being in love with the Champion, Revali. He strives for perfection. It's only natural that he'd want the most exquisite Rito to marry. Perhaps even beneficial for his future fledglings.
There was that bitter taste in your mouth again. Maybe you didn't know much about him than you thought.
It was pathetic. Getting emotional over stuff like this, thinking you had a chance in the first place. By the time you were starting to break through his stubborn barrier, you were beginning to see a softer, sadder side of him. His ego, pride, and isolation were due to his insecurities. It was nice to open a heart that's been shut away for a long time.
It felt nice to have that connection with Revali. However, it wasn't a bond that was meant to end up in romance. Being close friends was more than you could have asked for.
Best to just leave it like that.
Maybe it's a good idea to take a break from Hebra. You could say a quick hello and goodbye to Revali before leaving, to leave you feeling a little less guilty. Y-Yeah-
"My, my, I've never seen you run so fast."
Good thing you finished your milk otherwise you would have spilled it all over your coat.
"R-Revali! Why- What are you doing h-here?!" You exclaim as you look around nervously. Champions always were gaped at and sure enough everyone around the stable were staring. Great, more attention to your distressed self.
"Considering you ran off like that, It looked like an emergency." He turns his beak at the empty bottle in your hands. "Involving milk."
"D-Don't you need to go train?" You huffed until it dawned on you: He saw you run away. You shift slightly under his.... amused gaze? Oh great.
"Enlighten me, [Name], why did you scurry off like you've seen a ghost?" He smugly places his wings behind his back and starts ambling around you. "I am a Champion, you know? One cannot simply sneak up unnoticed by myself. Nonetheless, you aren't exactly the most stealthy."
"I noticed that I dropped something important and ran back to get it." You said confidently, or at least in your head, you did. Kudos to you for at least trying to lie to Revali. "Running made me thirsty, so I got a drink, as you can see." Tired of his leisurely walk around you, you stand up and stretch your arms to act busy. Abruptly, he's all up in your space again.
"So you’ve found it? Excellent news, now, shall you accompany me?"
You blink in surprise. No way he bought that. Where's that snarky remark? "Huh? Where..?"
"The Flight Range. Where else? I've already wasted enough time outside of mastering my craft," He rolls his emerald eyes at you. "We must leave now."
Okay, that was it. You were already in a shitty mood and needed some peace now more than ever. "Revali, why do I need to follow?" You match his annoyed tone.
For a split second, his posture wavers as his voice hitched in his throat. "There's something...I-" He draws his eyes to the fire, "need to discuss with you."
It sounded just a pinch of a plea. "Okay..." You put the discarded bottle in your handbag, concerned. Was it something really bad? You stand up as he leads the way towards the flight range.
----------
The sun was already starting to set while you both walked along the trail, covering everything with a golden hue. From here, you can see Rito Village shining under the sun. The occasional deer would run past and startle you, much to the laughter of Revali.
He's walking awfully slow for someone who's in a rush to train.
"[Name]?"
"Yes?" You tear your gaze away from Rito Village to look at him.
"Something I heard from the Zoras was very interesting. They say there's a legend where a Zora Princess fell in love with Hylian."
"Woah..."
"At first, I wondered why would anyone fall in love with a feeble Hylian, especially if you were as strong as a Zora."
"Oh...well I think it's pretty cute."
He nods, "I thought you might find it that way." He turns around to look at you, studying your expression, "Do you believe that people of different species can truly fall in love?"
"I mean, why not?" You chuckle.
"Did you get jealous? Seeing me with another Rito?" He inches closer to you, wings behind his back. It didn't sound like he was simply trying to pull your leg this time.
"W-What?" Your smile twitches a bit. "Well, I may have been curious."
"I know what you look like when you're curious, [Name]."
"What exactly are you getting at, Revali?"
"Her rambling was getting tiring. She reminds me of how the village elder can manage to go on and on." His brows narrow while you stand in confusion. "Unfavorable. However, I don't seem to mind when you go on and on and on and on."
"Hey!- Hey...?" Your cheeks were already starting to darken, flustered, "Why? What did she talk about?"
"Unimportant." He inches closer, "Do you hold feelings for me?"
"I- You're-" You look anywhere but him in a panic. "Hylia above, you say things so suddenly sometimes!"
He asks again, unfazed, "Do you love me?"
"Revali...." The sky was already getting dark at this point.
"You looked so distraught..." His eyes downcast.
"I just- I admit, I hold feelings for you, b-but I know it's dumb!" You feel yourself taking a step back from him, continuing before he can potentially tease you. "I didn't want to ruin our friendship because I think we've gotten so close..."
He stares at you for a second, collecting what he wanted to say. "...She claimed to want to talk about something important; Something champion related. Alas, all she wanted to do was merely flirt."
Anywhere. You would rather be anywhere but here. Your confession still lingered unanswered in the air and it was getting you worked up. "Revali, please..." You wanted more than that to come out of his beak at your confession.
"Let me finish. She made me realize some things that, at first, displeased me. But then, I saw your face." One wing rises up to gently graze the side of your face. You gasp at the sudden soft touch of his feathers and start to turn red. "She made me realize how much I...didn't..."
You place your hand over his own as tears start forming in your eyes. You had an idea of what he wanted to say, but you knew he would have a hard time admitting it due to his stubbornness. Despite that, he said with sincerity:
"...I didn't want to be with anyone besides you, [Name]. I'm deeply sorry that you got hurt like that." He gently wipes away your tears and pets your hair affectionally. "I've grown fond of our banter and started to care for you. I'll never understand why you took the time to know me, despite how displeased I acted, but I'm glad you did."
"Hah...I'm glad too..." You smile fondly.
"I love you, [Name]. I won't let anyone, myself, or even the calamity stop that." After saying that promise for only both of you to hear, he places his forehead upon yours as a sign of love.
"I love you too, Revali."

Goron
Hi all! This is the forth story in my Wild’s Story Hour series, which was originally requests that were sent in, and soon turned into its own series! I’ve been writing this on and off for a few months now, so I’m so happy to post it.
A little note: My Tumblr has been very wonky lately. I’m not sure about y’all, but every time I search for recent in the Linked Universe tag I get spammed with completely random tags not even related to the point where I can’t even see LU content. This is the only tag that’s like this for me. So please know that I’m not ignoring anyone, it’s just been quite laggy and slow for me to get notifications as well.

Thank you all for your continued support, and I hope you enjoy!
"Thanks for dinner Wild!" Hyrule exclaimed before digging in. Wild heard similar sentiments as he passed out mushroom and veggie rice balls, with some fruit crepes on the side. An odd combination, but that’s apparently what happened when you traveled with a group of eight others. In Twilight’s Hyrule they had found a relatively safe and secluded place for the evening before the sun had begun to set, so Wild took the extra time to put more effort into dinner. The others used to tell him that he didn't need to put so much effort into dinner, they were fine with rations and quick meals over a fire. However after they learned that cooking was what Wild would consider a passion, they allowed themselves to be fed without complaint. If Wild enjoyed it, who were they to stop him. The delicious food was certainly a bonus.
After thanking Wild the group settled around the fire, relaxing into the evening lull Wild had begun to find comforting long ago. He was never expected to talk, he could just sit in peace and listen. And if he chose to talk, which was becoming more frequent as time went on, the others always listened.
But after the… incident when Wild sang Kass' song, no one had asked him to tell anymore stories. After the first night of 'Wild's Story Hour' as Hyrule called it, Wind would often jump on his back and ask questions about his Hyrule. If Wind was anything, he was curious. That trait seemed to be amped up since Wild's Hyrule also had Rito and Koroks. Now though, Wind bit his tongue and kept quiet.
Wild didn't want to admit that he missed it.
He never thought he would miss talking, especially telling an entire story over a campfire. Talking used to feel like giving pieces of himself away, and if he gave too much he would be empty. Now he felt relieved every time he talked about his adventure. Wild loved seeing his brothers’ reactions to his tales, and the more he talked the more weight was lifted off him. That must have been what Warriors was talking about when he said that sometimes it helped to talk to others.
Wild missed it, but he didn't want to bring it up. It was embarrassing, and he didn't want the others to feel forced to listen to him. He was trying to get rid of that mentality but it was hard.
Wind felt guilty too, Wild could tell. Wild wasn't sure the little pirate had ever seen Wild so far gone in panic and anger. He hated that any of them saw him like that, let alone Wind. It wasn't the little pirate's fault, he didn't know that bringing it up would cause Wild's panic, not even Wild himself knew. It hadn't affected their friendship, but Wild didn't want Wind to feel uncomfortable around him at all.
Before he could cucco out, Wild signed for Wind to sit with him when he could. Wind smiled and nodded, quickly finishing his conversation with Four before making his way over.
"Yes, Wild?" Wind asked eagerly, but Wild could still see the apprehension under the surface.
"Are you okay?" Wild asked, skipping the small talk he wasn't good at.
"Of course! Why?" Wild resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Getting Wind, or any of the Links, to admit something was wrong was like pulling teeth. Although, Wild guessed he didn't have much room to talk…
"You've seemed upset lately. Did I do something?" Wild once again got straight to the point. If Wild did anything to upset the younger, he wanted to fix it. And he wanted to fix it now.
"What? Of course not, Wild! I'm sorry I made you think that. It's just… I feel bad I guess.” Wind sighed out, his shoulders slumping out of his fake eagerness. Wild winced slightly, knowing what Wind was talking about. Wild had one of his… attacks, in front of everyone. It started innocently enough, with Wind being curious about a song. It ended with Wild yelling and sobbing about his failures a century ago.
“That wasn’t your fault.” Wild stated firmly. “You didn’t know what was going to happen. No one did, not even me.” Wild trailed off slightly at the last part. Wind’s face had perked up slightly, but he didn’t look completely convinced.
“Wind.” Wild said gently, getting the younger’s attention. “I wouldn’t have sung if I didn’t want to.” Wild paused before admitting the next part, slightly embarrassed. “I like talking about my adventure. It feels nice.” Wild felt his ears turn red, but Wind didn’t seem to mind. In fact, he looked happier than he had in days.
“So… everything is okay? Do you forgive me?” Wind asked hopefully.
“There’s nothing to forgive.” Wild reassured. “Of course everything is okay.”
“Can I…” Wind trailed off from his question, but Wild knew what was going to be asked, and he simply nodded and smirked, opening his arms slightly. Wild caught a flash of Wind’s face, a large beaming grim, before a body launched into his arms from across the log, squeezing the life out of him. Wild squeezed just as hard back, thankful that the matter was behind them. Wild could feel eyes on them, and turned to meet the mirthful gazes of his companions. Wild simply glared at them, warning them not to say anything. This was between him and Wind. But the other Links were simply thankful everything was all right.
“Hey Wild?” Wind’s muffled voice rose from Wild’s chest.
“Hm?” Wild hummed, biting back a smile.
“Do you ever wanna tell another story for us? It’s okay if you say no.” Wind asked into Wild’s tunic. Wind used to bite back on his hugs and physical touches, afraid it would be seen as childish. But after it became more common around camp, and after the other Links understood that Wind simply came from a home where hugs were a common display of affection, Wind didn't feel the need to hide it anymore.
“Yeah, anytime.” Wild smiled.
“Now?” Wind questioned hesitantly.
“Sure.” Wild confirmed, searching through good memories of his adventure. Like an arrow, Wind launched off Wild’s chest, and Wild shoved down his disappointment at the loss of warmth.
“Guys! Shush!” Wind yelled, a hush falling over the camp besides a few grumbles about being interrupted. “Wild’s gonna tell a story!” He shouted in excitement, ignoring Wild’s shocked face. By now, Wind really meant right now.
“Did you inform Wild of this?” Legend asked, smirking at Wild’s shocked face.
“Of course! I asked him!” Wind scolded, turning back around and sitting on his and Wild’s shared log, ignoring Legend rolling his eyes. Wild saw Twilight shoot a look over the fire, silently asking if this was truly alright. Wild gave him a reassuring look and a nod. The camp was once again quiet as they all looked to Wild in interest.
“Uhh. What should I talk about?” Wild questioned awkwardly. It was always so awkward at the start.
“You always ask that, talk about whatever you want.” Legend crossed his arms, and lowered himself to the ground, back against the log.
“There’s two divine beasts left. You can talk about one of those?” Hyrule spoke up beside Legend.
“Okay, Gorons?” Wild suggested. The Gorons were a fun people to be around, and if Wild was honest, he wasn’t ready to touch on the subject on the Zora quite yet. That was too close to Mipha. Mipha wasn’t necessarily a secret, but it was a topic he was still sore about.
“Gorons sound fun. Don’t we all have Gorons in our Hyrule?” Four questioned, receiving nods and noises of confirmation.
“Didn’t Twilight wrestle them?” Sky questioned, receiving blank looks from the others.
“I’m sorry Twilight what?” Warriors’ shocked expression almost sent Wild into a fit of laughter. He couldn’t blame the man though, Wild was just as surprised when Twilight told him about his adventure with the Gorons.
“And you didn’t tell me?” Wind’s cried in betrayal.
“Uhh, I needed my iron boots to do it.” Twilight tried to soothe the outbreak of awe.
“That doesn’t matter with Gorons. Those make you heavier, even someone with above-average strength couldn’t beat a Goron with iron boots.” Four smirked from beside Sky, who was watching the chaos he caused unfold.
“I told y’all I learned how to wrestle in my village!” Twilight shouted with no heat.
“You didn’t tell us you wrestled a Goron!” Wind yelled back.
“He also burned a building down.” Time spoke up, biting back a smile at Twilight’s betrayed expression.
“I told you that in confidence!” Twilight yelled.
“Wait and you give me shit for lighting things on fire?” Wild cried out. Now this was the first he had heard of that.
“You do it for fun!” Twilight tried to defend himself through the uproarious laughter.
“Why did you do it then?” Wild questioned.
“That’s not important!” Twilight huffed.
“Maybe we should call you Wild.” Legend joked.
“Hey don’t you dare-” Twilight began before being interrupted by Four.
“As entertaining as this is, I think Wild was going to tell a story.” He reminded.
“Yeah! Wild talk about the Gorons!” Wind ceased glaring at Twilight in favor of looking at Wild.
“Okay, okay.” Wild said after he was done laughing. “Well you guys know my Death Mountain is really hot with all the lava.”
“Understatement.” Warriors mumbled.
“So I had to pick up some elixirs from Foothill stables and drink them on the way up." Wild started, relaxing into his story as he went.
“Don’t your elixirs only last a couple of hours?” Hyrule titled his head.
“Yeah, why?” Wild questioned.
“That looks like a long and rocky road. What, did you just run through the whole domain?” Hyrule joked, pausing when he saw Wild bite his lip. “Wild!” Hyrule yelled in realization.
"What? I didn't have any other choice! I had plenty of elixirs!" Wild defended.
“What if you ran out?” Four chided with a snort.
“Then I’d teleport away.” Wild shot back.
“Don’t extreme temperatures affect your slate sometimes?” Warriors smirked.
“I… would deal with that when I got there.” Wild huffed at the laughter that came from the others.
“Yeah a lot of your plans involve that.” Legend mumbled.
“Anyway.” Wild interrupted before the conversation could lead to discussing his battle tactics. “I kept running up the path and there were a lot of fire monsters like moblins, and keese and chuchus-” Wild continued.
“Don’t the chuchus in your Hyrule explode?” Hyrule asked once again, eyes shining in excitement.
“Yeah! If I throw bombs at them then I can make a huge explosion! Especially the big ones.” Wild confirmed with a grin.
“No, you two are not having a competition of who can make a bigger explosion when we get to Wild’s Hyrule again.” Time already knew where this would lead. It was best to nip it in the bud now.
“Awe.” Wild and Hyrule groaned.
“We never get to do anything.” Wild mumbled with a pout.
“You were saying?” Time lifted an eyebrow. Wild huffed once more before continuing his story.
“Right. It was a long walk and of course I wasn’t going to risk taking a horse. There were a lot of cliffs along the path and since I didn’t have much time I took the straight path. Then I accidently ran into a Talus!” Wild grinned at the rest of the group’s groans. They had some run-ins with the larger monsters in Wild’s Hyrule, and while they all had tough enemies, Wild’s had some of the largest monsters that were considered relatively common.
“Volcanos have molten rock, how did you miss it?” Warriors joked.
“It was molten rock!” Wild defended. “It blended in perfectly.”
“Wait wait wait.” Four waved his hands. “Your Taluses are also made of magma and volcanic rock?”
“Yep.” Wild confirmed, laughing slightly at the various looks of surprise the Links always held when they learned of new monsters their own Hyrules didn’t have. The other heroes had been near Eldin, but not quite near Goron City enough to see an Igneo Talus. Hopefully they were never dropped off near Death Mountain. Wild didn’t really want to wake up on fire.
“Are there ice and electric ones too.” Legend groaned.
“Ice ones.” Wild answered. “Those ones are really hard to see.”
“Ugh, remind me to watch my step.” Legend rolled his eyes.
“Will do.” Wild deadpanned. “Luckily I had some ice arrows so it was okay. Eventually I made it to the Southern Mine. That’s where the Goron mine for ore!" Wild explained. "I even met another Hylian there! He had some of the Flamebreaker Armor that you get in Goron City.” Wild had shown the group his Flamebreaker Armor before, and some had even tried it on, including Four.
“Oh? Did you seduce this Hylian for clothes as well?” Warriors raised an eyebrow.
“No I did not!” Wild crossed his arms, glaring at the rest of the now laughing heroes. “I’ll never live that down will I?”
“Nope.” Warriors and Legend smirked at Wild’s glare.
“I asked if I could buy it, since he was heading down anyway.” Wild spoke over the chuckling Links. “He said he would give it to me if I caught him 10 fireproof lizards so he could make elixirs. I saw a bunch of lizards while running up so I caught enough.” The rest of the group nodded, they too had to do some… irregular things for important items.
“How do you catch that many lizards that fast?” Wind tilted his head. “Aren’t they quick?”
“Oh yeah. If you’re not careful they’ll scurry away and bury themselves in the mountain side or under rock. I had to crouch and hop around.” Wind laughed at the image of Wild moving around like that.
This was nice.
“Is Goron City far away from the Southern Mine?” Sky asked.
“It’s not too far, but after I got a part of the armor and started approaching the city, Vah Rudania, Daruk’s divine beast, was circling Death Mountain and started launching giant fireballs so I had to dodge them and sprint up to the city.”
“Giant fireballs? Why would the beast attack you?” Hyrule asked.
“Well I’m not sure if Rudania meant to do it since it was circling the volcano, but Rudania was terrorizing Goron City like Medoh was terrorizing the Rito, so I think it was because of the Calamity.” Wild hummed in thought.
“They were infected with… malice, right?” Four questioned, remembering Wild’s pictures of the large pool of intimidating… something. It was apparently a manifestation of the Calamity, and Wild had said it burned whenever he touched it, especially with the Master Sword in hand. Four remembered even the pool looked evil. Pure black roots took hold of whatever was around it, mixed in with deep shades of reds and purples. Wild also told him there was an odd sound it made that set him on edge.
“As far as I know.” Wild nodded, thinking back to the pools of malice in all the Divine Beasts. “Back 100 years ago,” The group perked up in both excitement and worry. It was rare Wild talked about 100 years ago. Both because he couldn’t remember it, and because it had pained him for so long. “The other champions rushed to their Divine Beasts. The plan was I would protect Zelda, and return to defeat Ganon after the Divine Beasts weakened them. Zelda wanted to come with me, since she still believed there was a chance to awaken her power. She always pushed herself so hard…” Wild trailed off for a moment, staring into the fire. Twilight almost began to rise, believing Wild to have slipped into another memory, but Wild shook himself out of it quickly. “Help never came. The Divine Beasts were taken over by malice, and while they piloted themselves the champions were killed by Blights that Ganon had created to directly match their strength and exploit it. And well… you all know how the story ends.” There was a heavy silence, no one knowing what to say, including Wild. Wind scooted over on the log and leaned against Wild gently, showing his silent support. Wild smiled down at him, then at the others around the fire.
“It’s okay.” Wild told them. “Let’s just keep talking about the Gorons?” He proposed.
“Cub…” Time started, not quite knowing how to get his message across. “Talk about whatever you want to. Anytime.” Time finished, hoping Wild knew what he meant, and judging by the smile he did.
“Thanks, Old Man.” Wild said earnestly, thankful for the comfortable warmth at his side.
“Well um…” Wild began, thinking about where he left off. He appreciated that everyone waited to let him think, and didn’t interrupt him. “I finally made it to the city. Since it’s made from the materials they have up there it’s made up of a lot of rock and metals, but it’s still great to look at! They work hard on their signs outside their shops and the children always roll across the bridges over lava. There’s also a whole bunch of statues carved into the mountains.” Wild made large gestures solely with his left arm, since his right was still held captive by Wind.
Time leaned his chin into his hand. It was always interesting to hear about the boys’ Hyrules from their perspectives. Some Hyrules like Wild’s had very little to no government, and Time enjoyed hearing how different civilizations had gotten by.
“I got to meet with their leader, um, the ‘Boss’ of the Gorons. His name is Bludo. He’s really grumpy, and he has a bad back. He told me that him and someone named Yunobo would use cannons to scare off Rudania-”
“You have cannons too?” Wind looked up, always excited to hear how similar his and Wild’s Hyrules could be.
“Mhm!” Wild nodded. “Do you all not?”
“I had air cannons mostly.” Four spoke up, among some murmurs of confirmation among half the Links. It seems Time, Warriors, and Hyrule didn’t have cannons in their Hyrules.
“Since his back was bad I had to go find Yunobo, who disappeared after running an errand for Bludo to get medicine for his back.” Wild continued after briefly explaining how cannons work. “I just had to follow the path up to the Abandoned North Mine. Since Rudania started terrorizing them and monsters infested they stopped using that one as much. There was a Goron watching the area and he told me to not touch the Boss’ cannons.”
“And let me guess you touched the cannons right away didn’t you?” Sky asked, clearly amused.
“Yes I did. There was one right behind him.” Twilight let out a snort, quickly trying to muffle his laughter at Wild’s playful glare. Time too, was greatly amused by Wild’s antics, although his mind wandered a bit. All of these names for the Divine Beast’s names always sounded so familiar. Was it possible Wild too was a part of Time’s hero line? His Hyrule was far larger than the others, though. He wouldn’t be surprised if Wild was in a timeline of his own. Or perhaps somehow the land had changed and Wild was just far, far into the future. Time shook his head slightly and tried to tune back in. He really needed to stop trying to understand how complex time and time travel was.
“The cannons are so fun up there! I could roll my round bombs into them, and they had enough power to blow up a whole monster camp.” As Wild rambled on about all the ways he could use his bombs around Death Mountain, including cannons and carts, his eyes practically sparkled.
“I finally found Yunobo.” Wild got back on track with his story. “He was trapped in a cave-in and I got to use the cannons to get him out. When I went to check on him, he had some sort of orange shield surrounding him, and he was really timid.” Twilight mused on that for a moment. That sounded like how Wild described one of his champion powers.
“I had to run back to Bludo after that, and he told me about Daruk. I looked up at the stature of him and I finally remembered him, at least a little bit.” Wild had a small smile on his face.
“What was he like?” Hyrule questioned.
“He was really kind, as far as I could tell. He joked around with me a lot and he didn’t even care that I never answered. He said he would protect Hyrule to his death.” Wild’s smile turned bittersweet. “I think he always forgot I wasn’t a Goron, or he didn’t care, he would smack my back hard enough to send me flying.” Wild chuckled lightly.
He seemed to be fond of Daruk 100 years ago. Daruk appeared to understand how much pressure was crushing down on Wild, yet he never showed pity or disdain. He even teased him about it. Wild could remember a faint feeling of excitement when being told he would be seeing Daruk’s progress, so he assumed the Link of 100 years ago enjoyed his time among the Gorons, no matter how short it was.
“Awe yes I remember that well. I distinctly remember running away screaming when the Gorons wanted to thank me for helping them.” The camp cackled at the image of a younger Time running away and screaming.
“Bludo asked me to find Yunobo again, since his back was still hurting him.”
“Good to know everyone in every Hyrule is so needy.” The veteren scoffed.
“Turns out that Yunobo works with Bludo because of his powers he got from Daruk, the forcefield I was talking about. Yunobo hops in a giant cannon along Death Mountain, and Bludo launches him at Rudania.” Wild explained.
“That… sounds dangerous.” Sky laughed a little.
“Yeah… but Daruk’s shield is indestructible! Only problem was the guardian sentries surrounding the mountain.”
“The what?” Wind raised his head from Wild’s shoulder to look at the older boy.
“Rudania sent them to guard the area once we finally arrived at the base of Death Mountain.” Wind nodded and plopped his head back onto Wild’s shoulder, no one daring to tease either of them, even in good fun. “If they caught me with their lights, they would send magma bombs right onto the path!”
“And how do you know that? Did you get caught?” Warriors asked, slightly surprised Wild would get caught. He could be quite sneaky when he wanted to be.
“Well I was curious…”
“Wild!” Warriors pinched the bridge of his nose.
“I ran back to the base after I tested it and Yunobo had his shield!” Wild defended against the groans and muffled laughs. “Besides I was about to launch someone out of a cannon I wanted to know what we were up against. I avoided the sentries the rest of the time, and I had to whistle for Yunobo to stop and go, and there were some Moblins on the way up.” The rest of the group could imagine that climbing Death Mountain, especially one as large as Wild, while avoiding sentries, fighting monsters, and whistling for someone to stop and go would be tedious.
“Everytime I fired Yunobo from the cannon Rudania fled further around the volcano, and we made it all the way to the top!”
“Did you set off anymore sentries?” Twilight questioned.
“No!” Wild frowned. “I’m not completely reckless you know!” Wild stated, not appreciating the silence that followed his statement. “I’ll have you know I made it all the way to the top!”
“And how did you get into Vah Rudania?” Time raised an eyebrow.
“I…” Wild started boldly, before realizing exactly how he got into the Divine Beast.
“You what.” Twilight narrowed his eyes.
“I… jumped.” Wild shrugged the shoulder Wind wasn’t resting his head on. “Once I got into-”
“You jumped where.” Time smirked. That bastard, he knew something was up and he was gonna sic Twilight on him! Wild would find a way to  get revenge later.
“Vah Rudania was in the middle of Death Mountain so I used my paraglider-” Wild once again tried to brush this portion of the story off.
“You jumped into the middle of an active volcano?” Four cackled, the first one to understand what Wild was saying and showing an odd lack of restraint.
“Wild.” Twilight chided in ‘that voice’.
“Don’t ‘Wild’ me you lit a building on fire!” Wild defended.
“See Time! This is why I didn’t want you to tell them!”
“How did you know your paraglider wouldn’t burn up?” Warriors lips quivered under the strain of covering a grin.
“I would deal with that when I got there!” Wild claimed once again, trying not to focus on the slight flaws in his argument.
“How? How would you deal with that?” Legend threw his hands up at his friend’s stupidity.
“I don't know Legend. I never got there so I never had to deal with it, since it turned out fine.”
“What happened next?” Hyrule asked, covering for Wild and moving the conversation forward. Wild held back a fond smirk, he’d have to thank Hyrule later.
“Glad you asked, Hyrule!” Wild ignored any other questions. “I heard Daruk’s voice telling me I had to go find the terminal as usual, but this time inside the Divine Beast was pitch black.” The group had finally stopped asking questions and started listening to the story with interest.
“I had to get rid of pools of malice by shooting the eyes, and I had to light some areas up. Once I reached the terminal there were some places that opened up so it was lit up again.”
“Did this one rotate like the other Divine Beasts?” Legend asked from his place against his log.
“Yeah I could control it with my slate like the other ones. There were all kinds of puzzles like the last beast, like this one where I had to light my arrow with blue flame and shoot it through a hole in the door, then-”
The rest of the Links listened intently  as Wild went into the intricate details of the different puzzles within the beast. They were always interested to hear both about the Sheikah technology of Wild’s world, and how he had to use what was available to him to solve them. As much as they teased Wild for being stupid and reckless, he really was intelligent, espeically when it came to logic and puzzles. Twilight remembered how some markets in his Hyrule had little puzzles made of wood,each one requiring moving certain pieces to unlock different parts. Twilight had never been particularly interested in them, but he wondered if Wild would be, if Twilight found one complicated enough. He’d have to get away from the group and find one whenever they ended up near one of his markets. Perhaps even Four and Sky would be interested in getting their hands on them and taking them apart.
“-and I finally got to the last terminal and unlocked it.” Wild continued, barely pausing to breathe. The group wasn’t sure if he was aware of how much he was talking, or how rapidly, but they didn’t dare interrupt. “Fireblight Ganon manifested, and had the power to throw huge fireballs. But he had to suck in everything around to create them. So I threw my bombs into his mouth and blew them up. Other than that, I just had to get up close.” Wild described the fight in an almost casual sense, even though it seemed these blights were pieces of Ganon himself. It seemed some blights were far easier than others.
“When Daruk appeared, I still only had one memory of him, but he seemed as kind as he had been in my memory.” Wild had a small smile. “After freeing the beast I got teleported back to Goron City, and Vah Rudania took its position against the Calamity alongside, at the time, the Zora domain’s beast.” Wild explained. “Bludo thanked me, even though he hadn’t really understood what I did. I said goodbye to Yunobo, and, uh, that was that.” Wild ended his story as awkward as always, wincing at his own words. His throat, still unused to talking so much for such a long amount of time, felt as though he had swallowed sand.
“Thanks for the story, Wild!” Wild looked down at the sailor, something shining in the younger’s eyes he couldn’t quite place.
“Yeah! I always like hearing about how your guys’ kingdoms compare to mine.” Sky smiled, kindly shuffling and reaching over, handing Wild his water pouch. How he knew Wild needed it, or when he even got a hold of it, Wild would never know. Wild nodded in thanks and began sipping at the water, resisting the urge to chug it all in one gulp, as everyone’s voices blended slightly, creating a warm atmosphere.
The group continued to discuss different topics, going off on different tangents relating to Gorons and their Hyrules, all of which Wild was perfectly content to just listen, occasionally answering questions directed at him.
With the warm weight against his shoulder, and the comfortable but lively chatter surrounding him, Wild allowed himself to just exist within the moment, feeling himself relax further.
“Hey Wild?” Wild felt the head against his shoulder stir, and Wild looked down to meet a fellow set of blue eyes.
“Yeah?”
“Thanks for the story.” A relaxed but genuine smile reached Wind’s expressive face.
“No, Wind. Thank you.”
~~~
Very minor spoiler for Age of Calamity: The fact that BOTW/AOC Link canonically eats rocks is beautiful to me.
Wild loves puzzles, change my mind.
I like to write Wild how I play video games in general, which is just screwing around and seeing what happens.
I’m sorry if I get anything wrong about other Hyrules. I’ve played a good amount of the Zelda games but it’s been a long time since not a lot of them are on consoles I have :(
A Proposal Gone Awry
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | AO3
Summary: Link has been touring the breadth and width of Hyrule to clear out the remaining monster camps, and soon enough, he reaches Zora’s Domain. Mipha asks him to wait before he heads back to the castle, which he was intending on doing... but some mischievous children may have other plans.
Part 4 (Final)
Mipha floated in the pool, the water cascading in gentle waves over her prone form.
It was the fifth time she had left her own private pools after a prolonged period of recovery. She waded her way through a sea of guilt, shame, mortification, longing, pining and despair. Heartbreak was a painful thing, and it was a shame her Grace couldn’t heal it. Still, her time in almost near seclusion had helped her to come to several key realisations, which she could freely admit after the initial torment and hurricane of emotions drifted into colder water.
Number 1: She realised how much she had fooled herself.
Really, she had never even talked to Link about her feelings, planning to use the armour as her segue on the topic. An armour given at an engagement! What had she been thinking? How had she deluded herself into it?
Number 2: The answer was that she was simply too scared. Too terrified to ever voice her affection for him. And it had all backfired so spectacularly. There were so many signs that she had, simply put, ignored. All the way from Link saving Zelda during their journey, to finding out who they really were: soulmates bound through all of time and fated to be together. Her cheeks coloured, from thinking of all of the ridiculous explanations she had made up in order to continue living in a fantasy she had constructed in her mind.
Number 3: All of this could have been avoided, if she had talked to him properly.
Still, it was too late to regret it now, but with hindsight, she should have done everything differently from the start. She could have saved herself so much pain. The only saving grace she had was that Link thankfully had no idea what was going on. She didn’t even want to consider what would have happened had he realised.
The flow of the water changed, and Mipha instinctively looked up, as Bazz walked in, holding a bloom of Blue Nightshades in his hands. Every day since she had returned from the castle, he came carrying a small bundle of flowers as an apology. He had noticed how reclusive she had become, and the blanket of sadness that covered her like waves covered the ocean. She had reassured him multiple times she wasn’t sad because of his little stunt, and he didn’t need to bring flowers, but the poor boy had taken it to heart.
He had even brought the whole gang over on the first day that she had left her rooms, each of them bearing a gift. Bazz himself had brought her purple hyacinths, which apparently “symbo-bolises forgive-ness”. Gaddison had polished her treasured Lightscale Trident, something which Mipha hadn’t held for over two months. It had felt so good to wield it in her hands again. Rivan had given her a hearty blue snail, whilst Sidon had given her a huge hug, and a pendant that had Vah Ruta engraved into it. She knew her father must have helped him, but she still appreciated the effort he had put in. Once she had hugged him, he had softly whispered in her ear that she was his Hero, and he wanted her to smile again, like this, and he had given her the best gift of all- his trademark smile and pose.
It had made her feel comforted and helped her realise that she had a family here. She had responsibilities. She couldn’t just hide away from the world because she didn’t have the courage to talk to the man she loved, and now he had been taken away.
She was Mipha, Princess of the Zora, a daughter, a sister, a warrior. Yes, Link had played a large part in her motivations. She had always wanted to protect him, ultimately. First by healing his wounds, then by fighting the lynel with him, to finally creating an armour containing a piece of herself. But what she had failed to realise then, and she understood now, was that it wasn’t just all for Link. It was for her Domain, for her people who she would eventually rule over.
After that fourth realisation, it became easier to ease herself out of her rooms. To slowly begin to partake in the council meetings. To swim in her home’s beautiful waterfalls. To allow herself to heal.
She smiled as Bazz shuffled closer, his sword still scrapping the floor with every other step. He held out the peonies he had gathered today, and this time pressed a letter into her hand. She raised an eyebrow, but he didn’t say anything, just shrugged. She flipped it open, and it was about an event at the Flight Range. She read, and reread the short brief,
To all the children in Hyrule,
I, the Great Revali, Champion of the Rito, will be offering free lessons in the all-important field of archery.
Should you want to participate, convince your parents/guardians to bring you this Saturday to the Flight Range.
Teenagers are welcome on the following day and for those who do not possess this basic knowledge, I mean Sunday.
Remember that if you do come, I will expect nothing less of excellence, or at least, the maximal effort to be demonstrated until you achieve said excellence.
Master Revali, Champion of the Rito
Well, she never would have guessed Revali liked children. Or indeed teaching. He… well, she wouldn’t say he was the most patient of the Champions. Still, it was good of him to do… probably. She wasn’t sure he would have many students left after the first session.
But why had Bazz given this to her….? She got her answer when she looked up to Bazz’s huge, silently pleading eyes. She sighed. The children had done a lot for her these past few months. It was the least she could do to supervise them on a short trip. It was highly likely Revali would scare them all away, if she was being honest, which would be the main reason she wouldn’t want to bring them. Still, if they wanted to go, then she would accompany them. It was only right she gave back a little of what they’ve given her.
She smiled as she heard Bazz screaming to the other three and lifted herself out of the pool. She was out of practise with her spear, and she was certain Revali would notice. Not that she cared for his crass comments, especially considering what she had gone through these past two months… but she was still competitive and just in case he asked her to practise like they once used to, she needed to make sure she wouldn’t fail within the first minute.
The children squabbled together on the swim to the Rito Village. They were excited for their first time out exploring Hyrule, and she had to remain vigilant if any one of them decided to pop up for air and sit on the bank to appreciate the views. Whilst she did understand how shockingly green the world must appear to them when compared to the Domain, there were still monsters around, and these children were all her responsibility.
Soon enough they arrived, threaded in amongst the throng of people present in the Flight Range. Revali was at the entrance, by a giant board of names. He held the chalk in his hands as he wrote down the name of each child at a specific time slot, before directing them towards the bonfire that was burning in order to stay warm. From what she could make out, around half of the slots were filled, with lessons starting at 1 pm. As this was the sign up session, no one had been assigned into classes yet. She assumed it would be dependent on the numbers that turned up today…
She made sure the children were organised in file row by age, with the eldest first, (Gaddison, Bazz, Rivan and Sidon) before she approached Revali.
He merely nodded at her, wrote down the four names and directed her in much the same way as everyone else. Well, she wasn’t expecting favouritism, but surely in light of their history he could- wait- actually… What did she want him to do? She had only had a few training sessions with Revali, and aside from the battles they had fought together, she had rarely interacted with him. He didn’t tend to stay for the informal sessions they had as Champions, and, as he rubbed a lot of their group the wrong way, she had never paid much attention as to why that was.
She only smiled, asked if he needed any help, “No thank you, Mipha. Just head to the bonfire.” And Mipha understood his curt dismissal. He looked stressed, and she wouldn’t want to exacerbate that.
After a couple of hours, it was the Zora children’s turn. All of them headed off towards the Flight Range, were given basic instructions in how a bow works by Revali, and a brief guide into using a paraglider as an emergency safety check. The main benefit of practising at the Flight Range was that even if they slipped, or lost control, the wind was so strong it would buffet them in the air until Revali himself would pick them up. Anyway, no one would be flying out unless they fell; the first lessons would take place on the deck whilst aiming at the target just across.
Mipha was not afraid of anything going wrong. She trusted Revali. Despite their differences, Revali would never let any of one of them down.
Gaddison did the best, she adapted well to the new weapon, a swallow bow, managing to hit the inner turquoise ring after five arrow shots, whilst Bazz came in second hitting it after eight. Rivan managed in twelve, and Sidon could only hit the outside ring. He was perhaps too small for this sort of venture. Mipha understood his need to participate though; she knew he really wanted to be accepted into Bazz’s brigade, and she wouldn’t stop him from trying to fit in.
Whilst the children were firing at the target, she came to stand by Revali. He was intently focussed, but she thought she could perhaps try to get him to relax a little.
“This is a really good thing you’re doing Revali… training the next generation of potential archers.”
He fixed his emerald eyes on her, funny, how she had never noticed the startling colour before, “Well thank you, Mipha. Not all of us are handed our legacies. I have to make my own.”
She paused… hesitated a little as she thought over what he meant. It was true: she had never realised but all of the other Champions were in positions of power. She was a Princess, Urbosa was Chief of the Gerudo, Daruk was Chief of the Gorons. Zelda was Princess of Hyrule, and Link was Captain of her Royal Guard team. Except for Revali. His only title was Champion… “Perhaps that is a good thing. Self-made legacies are the ones that people remember the most.” He didn’t reply, so she asked another question. “How did you come up with the idea of making the Flight Range a training centre?”
He wrapped both arms around his chest, which she read as a little defensive, “Teba. His son, Tulin, trains here. Well. I guess I should say, ‘will’ train here.” He shook his head, “Anyway, I also don’t want to be remembered solely by the Rito for having trained Rito warriors. I want this to be an endeavour that spans across Hyrule. Archery is just as, if not more, important than simple swordplay.”
Ah. There it was. She wisely chose not to say anything else on the matter, “It’s an admirable aim, Revali. And from the volume of people here… I’d say you are in a good position.”
He merely shrugged. “It’s only the first session, Mipha. It would be foolish to assume the same pattern for the future.” He hesitated, looked at her ornamental silver again, before his gaze flickered away onto the children. He cleared his throat, risked another glance at her, before speedily asking, “Why did you change your armour?”
She was about to respond to his initial statement actually, to reassure him that it would work, and that he was a Champion which would undoubtedly make people want their children to be taught by him, but he had caught her completely off-guard. “What do you mean?”
He jabbed a feather at her clasp. “That never used to be there.”
Oh Goddesses. How would she explain such a thing? How had he even noticed such a small difference? “Well, one of the scales needed to go. It happens sometimes.” There. That wasn’t a lie. Technically, the scale had to go, and it didn’t happen often obviously, but she wouldn’t have to explain the ins and outs.
He paused, just for a second, before continuing on, “Is it susceptible to attack?”
“Well, yes-”
He jutted in, “Would you like to train then? It’s important to maintain your defence. Especially with such a pronounced wound that anyone could take advantage of.”
She did not mention the wound was, in fact, sealed completely by the clasp. But she appreciated his offer. It had been so long since she had properly trained with a Champion. And… now actually, she could remember him doing the same thing at the ball. Had he spotted it from then? Had he wanted to ask if she was okay from then? Had he wanted to train… to help her better defend herself from then? She wasn’t sure why she found that surprising, but it felt good to know he cared. “Okay.”
“Monday evening… at the Domain, for your convenience?”
She nodded, and with that, it was the end of the children’s turn. She established what time, exactly, on Monday evening, and invited Revali to come over for dinner. He hadn’t had a chance to visit the Domain properly in all the chaos of the Calamity, but there was no such rush now.
Mipha had a giant pile of things to do, and she tried her best to do it all quickly. First, she dropped the children back to their home familial pools, reassuring their parents that everyone had been well behaved. Then she informed her father that she had invited Revali to dinner so preparations could be made in time. Finally, she visited her Divine Beast, Vah Ruta... She paused at the entrance, smoothing her hand across the door. Ruta was pleased to see her Champion back, and Mipha found herself falling back into her routine of caring: she gave Ruta good clean, and even ended up having a late-night bonding training session to attempt to prepare herself for Monday.
In all her haste to do it all, by the time she finally reached her pools, she was so tired she immediately blacked out.
It was only in the morning that she realised, for the first time that night, in the span of two months, she didn’t think of Link. Of her failed proposal. Of her shame and embarrassment at reading the whole situation so wrongly.
And she finally braved the courage to pull out the package that she hadn’t touched since that evening. She decided it was time to post it to Link. She wrote a short note about completing his armour set, and she didn’t mention anything else. By letting go of it, and subsequently of the feelings that were associated with it, Mipha finally felt lighter than she had for a long time.
She grabbed her Lightscale Trident, keen on getting some practise before Revali came. Who knows, maybe he could teach her some archery too. Whatever it was, she was keen to finally put her trident to some good use again. For the first time in two months, she had something to look forward to… a goal she could achieve.
Perhaps her proposal had gone awry… but it had given her a much needed wake up call.
She was more than a girl who loved a boy.
She was Mipha, Princess of the Zora, Champion of the Zora and of Vah Ruta, a warrior and healer that contributed to the destruction of the Calamity. She was Sidon’s hero, and it was time she lived up to it.
Mipha stepped forward, her Grace poised in her movements, bold, determined, and ready.
Ooooooh I’ve got a great idea, sooga goes to rito village to confront revali, the only other asshole (he’s a much better bitch than CIL) he knows, and tells him about the cil bullying situation, and no rito could possibly resist helping sooga, and revali can be the ONLY asshole in his group of friends so he ain’t having none of it... bassically I want revali to beat cils ass. hope your enjoying your day!
Oooh? An asshole with an asshole. I'm in, let's fucking go.
"Sooga’s here, Sooga’s here!!"
The rito women immediately started to preen themselves, so excited. Revali couldn't help but give himself a look over as well. Sooga was showing up, unannounced? And apparently without Kohga? Either it was business, or pleasure. Either way, Revali stepped out of his house, being met with the sight of the blade master. Big, strong, he was a real heart breaker amongst the rito.
"Sooga! We haven't seen you in such a long time!"
"Oh you've been keeping up the work out routine, haven't you?"
Sooga, as usual, was swimming in rito women. They surrounded him like feral dogs, clearly wanting his attention. Sooga HATED it, Revali could tell, but it was a sight to see. Sooga looked more uncomfortable than usual however, so Revali decided to be a peach, and break it up.
"Ladies, why don't you let the poor thing breathe?"
"But Revali!!!"
They whined, a few clasping onto his arm. Revali shooed them off, shaking his head.
"Quit being harpies, all of you. Why don't you all fetch him a snack instead, maybe something with fish. You like fish, right Sooga?"
Sooga nodded, trying his best to keep polite.
"I do enjoy fish. If it wouldn’t trouble you ladies-"
"Oh not at all! KRISSI YOU BITCH MOVE!"
They damn near trampled each other on their way to their respective cooking pots. Revali chuckled, opening his front door.
"They like you. You should be flattered, rito men would LOVE to have them flocking the way you do."
"I swear they were about to pick me clean, like vultures…"
He stepped inside Revali's abode, allowing himself to sit down and be served a cup of tea. Never snacks. Revali knew he hated eating, especially away from Kohga. Revali took a seat across from him, getting comfy.
"So. You show up here, unannounced. And without Kohga. For what reason?"
"I actually wanted to come see you. It's...something Kohga can't know about."
Revali was listening. Maybe he wasn't too far off in his assumptions. A little secret between  them, away from Kohga. With muscles like that, who could refuse? He nodded, taking a sip of his own drink.
"But of course, Sooga. Just ask for it."
Sooga took a sip, stalling. He wanted those stupid lips, and he wanted them now.
"I'm...not sure how to."
"Sooga, the shyness is endearing, but my time is VERY valuable. So...ask me."
Revali leaned in closer. He smelled mildly of sweat, and holy SHIT he wanted to jump on him right fucking now. Sooga nodded.
"Apologies. You're right. So, I will say it. I'm...struggling with a blade master. Cil. He keeps trying to take MY Kohga from me, keeps making me doubt my relationship with him. I feel as though it's...separating us, and he's...proud like you. I don't detest you as I do him, but I just thought you'd know how to...handle it. In a way."
Not where Revali thought this was going, at ALL. He sat back in his chair, trying to tell his body that his ever increasing boner wasn't needed.
"Are you. Are you saying you're being bullied?"
"It...sounds childish when you put it that way. No, it's...more like, he makes me doubt my work and my love for Kohga. I'm dutiful, and I love my Master, but Cil….gets in my head. I feel like I should...end things with Kohga, if I'm so weak to simple words."
Revali could totally abuse this. Agree with this Cil person, and be Sooga’s shoulder to cry on. But Revali didn't bully for spite. He bullied for the benefit of other’s. Link demanded the most trust from him, and in the process, became a trusted friend in arms. So, despite how much Revali REALLY wanted to suck off Sooga, he did what was right for Sooga.
"Don't be an idiot. Somehow you and Kohga love each other. And this Cil fellow- he's abusing the mushy parts about you to get what he wants. YOU need to remember that Cil isn't some all knowing being-he's manipulative. I want you to go home after this, pick up something special for Kohga, and remember what I told you. Do you understand?"
"....I do. That's, oddly kind of you, Revali."
"Yes yes, I know, I'm a saint really. Don't go telling Link, he'll expect the same treatment."
"If you stop bullying Link, I'll end up bullying YOU."
They both shared a chuckle at that. Them talking shit about Link was one of the things they bonded over. Revali was about to say something specific about Link, when Sooga reached over to hold his hand. Revali felt his feathers fluff up (how embarrassing), just melting under such a big, strong hand.
"Sooga-"
"I just. Thank you. It's...not something that's easy to talk about with other's. They're so kind and they don't understand. It makes the whole situation-"
"Asinine?"
Another chuckle at that. Revali REALLY liked that chuckle of his. He was going to push his luck, maybe try touching something else, when his house was promptly invaded. By eager, loud, rito women, each holding a plate of food.
"Sooga! I'm so sorry I kept you waiting! I brought my seafood curry!"
"Oh don't poison the poor man! Here, try my fish pie!"
"He might as well eat sawdust! Sooga, here, try some clam chowder!"
Sooga sighed, while Revali sat there, chuckling. Sooga didn't deserve all the pestering he got. The women's attention, Revali couldn't help. But he knew one thing he COULD do.
--------------------------
"Have a good one Cil! Try not to glare some poor soul to death!"
"And you, try not to catch a disease."
Von laughed at the retort, pulling his fellow blade master aside for a steamy, drunken, sloppy make out session. Cil had made the mistake of joining Von for drinks, and had a pretty awful time. Drinks were shitty, expensive, and all Von did the whole time was stick his hand in between several pairs of legs. Cil decided a walk home in the cold night air would do him some good.
"So YOU’RE Cil."
Cil stood still upon hearing the voice, as well as the crunch of leaves, slowly growing louder and louder. He slowly turned, just in time to see his sudden visitor. Revali, champion of the rito. Arguably the best archer of his kind. Had to be, to make up for that short stature.
"Take it you've been looking for me?"
"Yes, actually. You see, to put it bluntly, I hate how you've been treating a friend of mine."
"You wouldn't be the first. I also don't care."
Cil was already bored. He tried to turn around and walk off, when he stopped, feeling something breeze past his head. An arrow, now buried into the tree in front of him. He turned around, looking at that angry face, and the now drawn bow.
"I think it's time you start caring. I want you to stop it. And I'm being nice, asking you politely. Don't make me act uncouth."
"Unfortunate. Us Yiga don't care for manners, not towards our assailants."
They stared each other down for a moment, before Cil rushed him, blade drawn. Revali dodged, barely able to avoid being sliced, unlike the tree next to him. Revali fired, only to be forced to hide behind another tree, Cil somehow deflecting it with his drawn blade. Cil cracked his neck, slowly approaching Revali's hiding spot. This was way better than just some walk.
"Come now, little birdy. I'll clip your wings quickly if you come out now, rather than later. If you make me wait...I'll make these woods sing with your screams."
Revali turned quickly, firing his arrow. He aimed not for his shoulder or even his head. Instead, he aimed for his hands. The weapon fell as the arrow struck, but before Cil could reach for his weapon, Revali pointed the tip of the arrow at his forehead.
"You can save yourself the trouble. Leave. Sooga. Alone."
"Ah...he's your little buddy, huh? He's not even asking you to do this,"
Cil lifted his hands up in defeat, slowly walking backwards as Revali kept stepping forward, right until his back was against a tree.
"How both you AND Master Kohga care for him so much...I'll never know. But I DO know...that it is a mistake you will both pay for."
He quickly grabbed the arrow from the tree behind him, and jabbed it into Revali's shoulder. Revali was about to just bear it and retaliate, before Cil used his body to push him to the ground. It knocked the bow out of his hands, and Revali was on the forest floor, with Cil wrapping his hands around his throat, and squeezing. Revali flailed, trying to do ANYTHING to be free. He couldn't breathe. Couldn't think.
"I'm sorry Sooga was your demise. I pity you. I-"
He didn't get to finish as Revali managed to lift himself up a hit, and swipe his talons at him. It hit right at his face, not just scratching his features, but peeling off his mask. Revali leapt up, grabbing the mask and holding it tightly to his chest. Cil sat there, covering his bleeding face with both of his hands.
"GIVE IT BACK. YOU DO N O T DESERVE TO SEE MY FACE!"
Revali glared at him, meeting his eyes through his fingers.
"If you'll back off Sooga, I'll give it back."
"He is a MUTT-"
"I'll tell EVERYONE I saw your face."
"They won't believe you."
"Rumors are powerful. Many would LOVE to make people think its real, just to humiliate you. Care to risk it?"
Cil hesitated. But when Revali's claws started to glide down the wood, he was convinced.
"OKAY OKAY! JUST. GIVE ME THE MASK, AND WE'LL CALL IT TRUCE."
Revali had no idea these masks were such a huge fucking deal. Whatever. He tossed the mask in his direction, watching Cil frantically put it back on, smearing the blood on his mask. Revali picked his bow off the floor, putting it back into its holster.
"You yigas better keep your word."
Revali was in the skies in just a second, headed right for Zora's domain. He stopped at Mipha’s window, giving it a knock. She opened her window, immediately looking worried as she saw the state he was in.
"Revali! What happened, you poor thing?!"
"I was...helping a friend. Suppose you don't mind doing the same for me?"
Was this a stupid decision? Yes. Like Link level stupid. But...Revali didn't at all regret it. Not for Sooga.
