#and 9 hours yesterday #i'm not new just. behind #like. i literally just did kazuha's second story quest yesterday #and caught up on scara's interlude quest and did the entire summer event story today #i really do like genshin as a game i just have a gripe here and there with some design and qol stuff #contrary to popular belief i actually am into stuff other than gay idols. #actually i miss talking about genshin. the story and small details are just so fascinating #before getting into en/stars i was the lore gremlin #my favorite npcs are indarias (fire yaksha) and chiyo (raiden's oni friend) #bonanus (hydro yaksha) is also cool i like her claws (yes i remember the yaksha names off the top of my head.) #favorite lore of the regions uhhhhhh hard toss up between the 5 yakshas and tsurumi island #after kaveh i kinda lost interest in the characters they were rolling out and i'm kinda on the fence about fontaine rn #but chlorinde and navia are interesting enough to me #i am not immune to strong pretty women #magic pretzel #comic #i should post comics more

So the way fish with weather requirements work in FFXIV, the everlasting light in Shadowbringers does actually prevent you from catching those fish, it isn't just a "mask" over the actual weather condition like a FATE weather

Which... is really, really funny to me, because this would technically mean that after the night returns, suddenly all these fishers are catching species nobody's ever heard of before

Deep Roads Shortcut and Skip The Fade aren't even mods in my mind anymore... they are like siblings to me.

#especially the former bc while I would prefer playing the deep roads again to the fade and have done so before #(the mod doesn't skip your companions' scenes in the fade which are the best part anyhow) #the deep roads do have better sidequests story beasts and lore... BUT #the modder for the former is sooo funny about how they went about it #they added a sapient Genlock (he references the events of Awakening so it even works as foreshadowing!) to take you to the Broodmother... #...unaware that you are a grey warden and this is very helpful to you. it's SUCH Mad Batter from The Legend of Zelda energy #my beloved. When I play pokemon reborn which starter should I choose (vote has influence but not final say). Technically this is my oc Mercury’s choice so I’ve gathered what would most closely fit their assumed personality.

I half heartedly chose a starter based on my own prefs for rejuv and deso. chimchar and deino. #but then for the first I was half like . half heartedly making an oc at first. so now I’m very late to Mona’s character shaping which is #awful to say the least. deso I luckily planned already to make an oc after the first ride. so Marble was set but their personality to me #grew more apparent to me as I played #depending on things. it’s highly unlikely but I MIGHT reset rejuv just to change player name #to change to Mona cause it is real Awkward when I’m trying to oc shape and immerse into story #but well. I’m attached to the team I made :’)))) if there’s a true ending I will then.

#I'm in the second to last chapter now so we're nearing the home stretch #more full thoughts will come later #quick version is - tons of lil mechanical and QoL improvements over 7 have made it so so fun but I find the overall main story a bit weaker #love the new party members though #there will be plenty of gifs to come too

i'm anti-explorers remake i really do not want an explorers remake (<- guy who will still buy an explorers remake)

#bwark #i can't say no to pmd + eos is my favourite game and it means a lot to me #but like. we just need one!! #im worried that remake won't capture the same experience as the original because the ds sprites are just so charming #but also there's not enough to fix to warrant a remake #like the only thing i can think of is elaborating on darkrai but considering rtdx didn't fix anything with rt's weak story i doubt they'll #touch that. and that one thing that's exclusive to the end of the postgame doesn't make a remake worth it #like with rtdx the gameplay at least needed some heavy tweaking #and while i am letdown with the lack of story improvements those qol changes were very welcomed #but explorers doesn't have those issues the original rt did #the only other benefit i can see and this is only towards my team but i can make my sylveon thea/luxray aziel team real #can't do that in the originals but like. still #and that's if they remake sky and not time/darkness. which is the worst timeline #which would be a stupid but probable decision considering bdsp exists #idk im rambling. brand new pmd game with new story and characters pls no explorers remake #*we DONT need one #oops

It's so frustrating to me how what made 999 so unique (the usage of the Nintendo DS hardware itself as part of The Twist and playing with the player's assumptions and expectations about the dual screen format) is basically unadaptable into any format that's not 1. handheld and 2. dual screened... Meaning that as the NDS and the 3DS died over time, so did the original impact of the game... The game did something so innovative but then its lifespan was tied down to the specific hardware it was meant for... The closest replication of the original experience without a physical NDS/3DS would likely be emulating it on mobile. You CAN emulate it on PC but then you won't get the experience of physically flipping the screen upside down to invert the morphogenetic communication flow... You CAN play the Steam/PS4/etc ports that are much more attractive to new players due to convenience/voice acting/HD sprites/etc but then you'll likely miss out on the narration (unless someone who knows how important it is nags you to play in novel mode. and even then the narrator twist will lose all the impact) and will play the version with the twist the game was built around nerfed and the upside down sudoku removed. Like you CAN do that and still get your mind blown because it's such a great game but every adaptation of it has to compromise on something important by design. But also it's unreasonable to expect new players to go out of their way to get their hands on a Nintendo DS cartridge from 2009, especially since they won't know WHY it matters. It's just frustrating in all senses because there's no solution to it. Something poetically tragic about the original experience of 999's temporal plot twist being lost to time. whatever

#also I have Many Opinions on how the port making the narration optional negatively affects the narrative and the way the player is supposed #to Listen to akane as she tells her own story and are guided into empathizing with her before you even know she is narrating. whatever #zero escape spoilers #WAIT i just remembered the port adding a flowchart also negatively impacts the narrative in exchange for improving qol. AUGHHH. frustrating #◇

Happy new year! I started a graphic last year to track games I beat through the year, will probably end up doing the same for this year. It was fun. I have several other playthroughs on the go, but until I get to the credits, they don't count ;) They'll be on 2024 though.

My fatal flaw is that I enjoy RPGs and boy howdy they aren't the shortest games. Lol.

V Thoughts about some of the games I played below V

Favourite game hands DOWN was Monster Hunter Stories 2. That game is so incredibly well made, it almost makes me cry. I still need to get into the postgame some more and train up some absolutely busted beasties >:) And finish that fanart of my dear Pukei-Pukei.

Can't forget about Tales of Symphonia though. I beat it a couple times as a kid with my brother, but this is the first (and solo) run I've done in well over a decade (nearly two). It holds up so well, and the themes and story are still topical. One of these years I'll deep dive into the secret bosses and sidequests. Gotta get those new game+ perks first.

Lastly, big shoutout to Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker. I picked it up in a retro game store's bargain bin for $5, figured it sounded fun. I am now absolutely enamoured with a couple of the monster designs (heart eyes at Jailcat) and got the new Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince game for Christmas on my Switch. Been playing the HECK out of that too. Monster tamer games my beloved.

Moving into 2024, there's gonna be much of the same. I have some Pokemon playthroughs that I'm always plucking away at, and I'm about 75% of the way through Tales of Arise as well. DQM: The Dark Prince will make it this next year, obviously. I also have Bayonetta 2, 3, and the spinoff Cereza and the Lost Demon in my backlog. At some point I need to continue playing the Professor Layton games. Aaaand I'm about 40-50% through a revisit of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

So again: monster tamers and RPGs for the most part. I am beyond predictable :')

#steam replay #steam replay 2023 #special shout out to loddlenaut and frogsong since i backed these games on kickstarter :] both super short but super cute and fun #her story was honestly terrifying for someone so weak natured but it was also a fun dive. played it for school #dredge was so much fun even though i played it on tame mode. because. as aforementioned. im so scared #cassette beasts was a GREAT look into how to really mix up the standard creature tamer process- #and the QoL changes it added to the genre were groundbreaking #but by far i think tunic has to be my favorite. i would replay tunic a million times over if i could. just revelation after revelation #i've said this before but tunic is the closest experience i ever got to replaying hollow/knight since. well. playing hollow/knight #its so much fun. dissecting it was such a treat. even if what i THOUGHT the lore was felt better than what the lore actually was #whatever. the curse of the artist. #obs i played ieytdie3 this year but i didn't buy it on steam so.
