Y’know as much as I may be a school hater I gotta hand it to them for teaching me something very strangely beautiful (they didnt teach it to me directly like in a class sort of deal tho. i refuse to give them that big of a W)

uhh tw mentions of ass fucking and giving premature birth for like. a single line. it literally does not matter. oh and also anime as a currency and maybe just maybe slight traumadump

you know presentations, right? you do a thing then show the class the thing and explain your thing and shit

mostly as a kid they’d have us buy this giant colored cardboard paper thing and put info about a certain topic in it. the very first one that i remember doing was with this one girl named Mar about penguins. later as we got older shit got more competitive bc the class would vote on which cardboard presentation was the best and the winner would get the cardboard hanging in the school walls for all to see. and idk i guess it hurt spending a decent amount of time in a cardboard only for another one to get voted as if your efforts werent worth anything

ANYWAYS.

so yea school started with cardboards and then around 13-14 we started doing like. powerpoint presentation things. and depending on the topic and if the group project i ended up with were cool friends i got to add a lot of little gags and memes and overall have a lot of fun. and it was because these things were fun that i actually managed to remember a lot of things that we agreed to talk about during the presentation! who knew that having fun made learning better! wish they’d implement that to the school system!

over time teachers started to get more stern on not copypasting shit into the slides and then just reading it aloud for the presentation, and although having notes to read was allowed you definitely looked a lot more preofessional if you didnt have any. also with time I started to get more opportunities to do my presentations alone which i definitely enjoyed more than group ones because i could put whatever shit however i wanted and didnt have to meet up with anyone else and waste time trying to agree on what to do

which then leads into the wonderful tale of this one time in 2018-19 (cant rember) where our english teacher asked us to do a presentation. i dont know if it could be about whatever we wanted or if it had to be about money or whatever. but i chose to make it about anime as a currency. and i got a 10 of course because my english fucks severely and absolutely no one else did a presentation with as much slides and detail as mine did and honestly i think the teacher was just scared on what I’d do if i got a bad grade

but thats not the point of the story, just a highlight

then a couple months ago, since the class i was in was the Art Class, a teacher from a different subject asked us to illustrate one of the many poems that this one book had. I had different vague ideas going around in my brain but the deadline was so far away and i just didnt bother

until the deadline wasnt far away

so anyways adhd fucked me raw in the ass once again and i was still not done getting fucked by other things so fucking. supreme. deadline was close as shit and all the vague ideas took long ass time so I winged it as always and just read one of the poems at the end and got another idea then made the dollar store version of it and speedran that shit

and then time of presentation came and of course i was last and a buncha days passed with people just presenting their illustrations and all that wonderful time i could have spent making this shit more presentable but instead i had my cringe ass nae nae baby in my hands that i gave birth to too fucking soon for it to look more than just a sad fetus. literally any time its presenting time i either offer to go first or second or i get elected last i dont know how the fuck it happens but it happens. so anyways

instead in all those classes of classmates explaining shit with dead voices (we’re teenagers) i didnt listen in to what they said (i wouldn’t have even if i tried lmao) and instead just thought of how to present my work. i didnt have a powerpoint so through words alone it is

and then i just started coming up with beautiful tings to say about my work. How i used the most cheap materials i could find to not mock the author, who wrote in misery and made poetry out of misery, and it was now my turn to take those words engraved in pain and shape them around into something beautiful, over the ruins that got left behind, with resources available to the lowest of the low like library printers and cheap glue stick. make poetry from ruin to ruin, instead of the aristocrats noble poets of the past had focused on pleasing

and yall. i got the highest grade i’d ever gotten in anything from that class up until then. it still is

I’ve always been the goddess of just. making shit up as i go. a guy came up to me asking shit and i just lied on the fucking spot. no hesitation

and this has been a reoccurring thing, especially this past year, where i would have to present drawings (actual drawings) I’ve made and I just said some fancy cheesy shit and the teachers were swooned

and I don’t think it’s just me, either. I think this can extend to all people. the ability to look at the ugly, the neutral, the mundane, the devastation, and just make it into art. not by altering it per se, but simply talking about it. talking about things in a way that, although you might be winging every word not really believing what you say to be true, can make other people find them beautiful

reading the fnaf trilogy and my thoughts so far on each book...

silver eyes: decent book. had some creepy moments and i enjoyed it. one of my favorite parts was the details of the animatronics freaking out; i thought that was cool to read. oh and when they're hiding under the tables, trying to avoid freddy... that part was cool!! negatives for me were the pacing was weird or made it drag in certain parts and i really wish they had cut WAY down on the characters but i liked it overall. dave/william afton was an interesting villain as well.

twisted ones: didn't like it as much as silver eyes bc of the ending being SUPER confusing for me but i did like the more time spent focusing a smaller cast of characters. the twisted animatronics were fairly creepy and the detail of them burying themselves was unnerving; i really liked that aspect. i kind of zoned out during the last few chapters bc there was so much happening and i disliked the ending.

i havent read the fourth closet yet but i did spoil myself on purpose so i already know the twist (which was one of my theories when my brother told me the third book had a twist). so far it seems like people either love it or hate it so im curious to see where i will fall. i know it involves the sister location animatronics so that will be interesting.

so far i would say the books are interesting if you like fnaf but probably wouldn't be enjoyable if you don't have a connection to fnaf. not something i plan to reread in the future; interesting the first time around but i cant see myself going back and reading them again. i'll reblog this with my final ranking/thoughts on tfc once i finish it. i'm also going to read ff/tftp after i finish tfc.

Current verdict: The Silver Eyes > The Twisted Ones

edit: I also realized one of the things i liked better about The Silver Eyes is that it felt like FNaF! It had references to the games and lore, and there were some parts where I got REALLY excited because I recognized something from the lore (like Henry showing the springlocks to Charlie or Charlie remembering Fredbear's). The Silver Eyes is definitely my favorite and I don't think The Fourth Closet is going to take that place.

Winter! Even if I’ve never experienced snow or winter before, the whole idea of snow is just really fun and endearing to me. One of my bucketlists is to see snow in real life. I think it has to do with the fact that I’ve always been this person to prefer the cold over heat.

I’ve always been here! Just not in kpop tumblr. I’ve since deleted my old accounts and shame but i came back to write. It’s always been so stress-relieving to me, to write without any expectations on my back because I’m thinking about grades or a competition. Also Soobin simping is a daily thing and I gotta release it somewhere man

are you happy with where you are in life right now? why or why not?

Yes. I may not be the richest or the prettiest, or smartest or whatever, but I have a good family that loves me. I have good friends that support me and I have TXT and BTS to help me cope when things get overwhelming. I have a job that gives me a little bit of income (it’s not too common for college students here to get jobs like in the US, most of them just focus on acads) and all the means to continue my education amidst the pandemic. So really, I’m grateful for where I am now.

Why do you have to do me dirty cj,,,,, prolly online. I may not get to hug them or anything but I get to talk to them still. As may times as I want to. Made a tier list of FNaF media!!! Not counting the activity book or the security survival log because those don’t really add anything, they’re just neat activities or summaries of game info

I explained the choices under the cut, equal parts personal bias and objective opinion, so if you think differently then hey, good on ya!

Going down to up XD

The Silver Eyes Graphic Novel: Do I even need to explain this one? Rushed art with countless mistakes, horrid coloring, samey designs, the important scenes come off as bland and even goofy instead of impactful. It’s clear Pinky wasn’t used to drawing humans, the colorist had no idea what they were doing, and no one on the team made a graphic novel before. It’s laughable how bad this was XD

The Fourth Closet: Does anyone really know what happened at the end? I... really don’t like what they did with Charlie in this one. I don’t like how William was able to get out of his Springtrap- it was SUPPOSED to trap him, and yet he just... is out of it... I think the whole thing with Baby being like this hot clown girl instead of what she is in Sister Location is very... ... it exists... Tbh I respect the bold direction it took, but I honestly felt it was too much of a stretch and just didn’t work.

FNaF AR, Special Delivery: Not bad! The character models and voice acting is where the game shines most. Other than that, there isn’t really much substantial to the game other than some lore with Vanny/Ness and Luis. The gameplay can get frustrating sometimes(I cant collect remnant, read my mail, or even work on my own animatronics without DING DONG SOMEONES HERE every 5 seconds), and all you do is spin in a circle until you get glitchy, look away if they get glitchy, or zap them when they run at you. Some people probably love this game and good on them for that, but I find myself not touching it for weeks at a time.

Freddy In Space 2: GREAT game for charity, great art, great music! ... That’s all it has going for it, though. It was clear that this was a quickly made game designed to be beaten in one sitting, and it did exactly what it needed to do! Other than being amazing how it was for charity, the game doesn’t have that much going for it(except introducing Lolzhax aka BEST ROBO), so overall not bad but also did almost nothing outside of being for the Charity Livestream XD

Fazbear Frights, Into The Pit: Again, not bad! A nice collection of short stories, almost like goofy campfire horror you’d tell to kids... like goosebumps! I felt each story was REALLY lacking in some areas, but I liked the general idea they were going for. That being said, they’re moreso neat scary stories with the name FNaF attached than anything else(except maybe the first of the three). It hints that they have an overarching plot that will be covered in future books, but as of right now, I feel no one’s missing out by not reading them.

FNaF 3: A satisfying end to the original trilogy story! Purple Guy gets justice, everything gets tied together with a neat bow, and the first arc in the series comes to an end. Also Springtrap, aka my favorite. This game is riddled with neat 8-bit minigames and bits of lore, but the gameplay itself is where I find it not as good as the S A and B tiers. The new setup with the system reboots are def really interesting, but other than that, each night is just... the same thing but harder. Most other games introduce different characters on different difficulties per night, but since Springtrap is the only deadly one, it’s just... him more aggressive each night and systems failing more often. Makes the gameplay pretty repetitive and frustrating after Night 3 or so.

FNaF 4: The beginning of what I like to call the Afton saga(4, SL, FFPS, UCN)! This is when the lore began to get REALLY good... and also really confusing. Props for it taking such a bold direction by taking place in a child’s bedroom instead of in an office with cameras, its a neat change of pace! That being said, the gameplay can get frustrating and there’s a high learning curve for needing to listen to each sound the anmatronics make. Also lore wise... there really isn’t much! Just mainly focuses on what happened to this poor kid. Also the box still being a loose end... yeah.

The Twisted Ones: I enjoyed this one! It had a very interesting direction that kinda kept me guessing on what was going on, and this is when Scott really started nailing in the foreshadowing for the reveal in TFC. The Twisted animatronics are SO cool, and the introduction of those little alteration chips provided new context to games like 4 and SL! That being said, I don’t remember it being... that memorable? I also didn’t like how Charlie’s and John’s relationship was... so awkward... It was neat, but honestly nothing to really go crazy over, in my opinion.

The Silver Eyes: Honestly, I adored this book when I read it back in 2016, before Sister Location happened. At the time I wasn’t trying to connect it to any lore, so it was really great just to see a sort of retelling of the FNaF story. A lot of people complained about how long it was... I might agree if I reread it but tbh it never bothered me before. It was delightfully creepy, yet had a simple plot and wasn’t NEARLY as out there as TTO and TFC. Especially TFC. I felt this book didnt need 2 sequels and would’ve been just fine on its own, but whatcha gonna do. Carlton is forever my fav, and it’s the first time we really learn about Henry AND it was the first time we got a name for our Purple Guy: William Afton!

Sister Location: I like this one for just how bold of a game it was. I’m also including SL’s Custom Night wrapped into this package. Jam packed with lore, our first (main) game with VOICE ACTING, and honestly the humor has no right being as good as it is. I love how this not only expanded on the crying child from 4′s story, but also gives us so much Elizabeth and Michael content. The gameplay has a lot of unbalanced features and feels a little too over the place at times, but I appreciate where it was going with it!

FNaF World: ... This one is pure personal bias. A lot of people don’t like it. I adore it. Honestly I love the cute overworld, I love beating up enemies as my favorite animatronics, I love the horror, nihilism, and lore shoved into this game alongside SO MUCH humor. Update 2 was nothing short of an absolute delight and... wait, no!!! FNaF World had our first voice acting!!! Ultimate Custom Night: Name a better way to end the Afton Saga, I’ll wait. It’s so obvious how much time, thought, and care went into this one. I love how the game rewards you with funny cutscenes the higher scores you get, and I just! So much voice acting! I love how each preset- no, each character has their own moves so every time you do a certain mode, you need to learn to manage them all and get a good strategy. I like how it’s way more strategy and skill than the RNG that many previous games had. Also, Scott!!! You managed to put this into the LORE by making it William’s hell, MUAH, couldnt have done it better!!!

FNaF 2: This one might have bias for being the peak of the fandom, but it was one of the greatest times to be in that fandom. Freaking out over the trailers, theories galore, prequel vs sequel, and just... so good. 1 didn’t have much plot, 2 DID. 2 had more mechanics and strategy to it than 1, and gave us over twice as many characters! We finally got a “face” to our killer, Mr. Purple Man, and how could I ever complain about more Phone Guy~? This one also introduced the 8-bit minigames, which became a HUGE staple for the series! Perfect expansion of the first!

Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator: The PERFECT blend of old and new gameplay. The salvage scenes are intense, the nights had a great balancing mechanic of juggling doing tasks while also avoiding animatronics, multiple endings, and a neat tycoon segment to give the player a breather... but with LORE!!! Midnight Motorist is easily one of the best tracks in the series. Also has a GREAT canonical ending, when(with paired with UCN), ties the plots of 1-6 SO nicely with a neat bow.

FNaF 1: Okay. From a personal and gameplay standpoint, I was going to put this much lower. Like B or C. That being said... this has to go in S. Yes, it has the least lore and arguably the worst gameplay(too much RNG for 4/20 mode), but this was the game. I can’t even exaggerate when I say just how much FNaF changed not only the gaming community, but especially the horror and indie communities. So many names got big from this: Markiplier, Dawko, Game Theory, The Living Tombstone, DA Games, SCOTT HIMSELF, just to name a few!!! And to think, this was originally going to be Scott’s last game! FNaF changed gaming HISTORY, and I think that alone makes this title deserving of S.

FNaF VR, Help Wanted: Okay, personal bias time, but I truly think VR deserves this S. Seeing Glitchtrap for the first time incited a panic in me that I hadn’t felt since FNaF 1 and 2. You get FNaF 1-4 in one, all in VR, WONDERFUL character models that you can WATCH MOVE!!! SO many minigames and fun challenges to play, so many neat knickknacks to collect, the Halloween update is FANTASTIC. The introduction of some great characters, such as: Glitchtrap, Vanny, Tape Girl, Dreadbear, Grim Foxy, etc!!! There’s also just- something so nice about being able to see every office and the pizzeria in 3D spaces where you can look around! Just from a gameplay and environment standpoint, this was an AMAZING addition and deserves the S.

of course it’s their debut song Crown. I have to admit, I listened to them not because i discovered them but because of the whole “bighit is releasing another boy group” fiasco. people thought the hype would die down, i did too, but to this day the boys never failed me. they consistently made me happy with the content they gave out for everyone to enjoy. also adding, i think i’m attracted to them more (compared to their seniors) since they’re around my age– something in which i feel like i can relate to (in terms of the content they put out, or the jokes, etc)

The Next Great Adventure:

(Ernest x MC):

A/N: I’m so sorry for this, I was in the mood for writing something sad so prepare for extreme angst and a bit of fluff (this fic also has references to a ongoing series set after the events of Desire and Decorum I am doing but haven’t updated in a year because I’ve been so busy but I’m definitely going to pick it up after book 3 has ended, called Family Life, so spoilers for that, I suppose so read that first if you want to read it and don’t want chapter 3 spoiled if not, go ahead and I hope you enjoy this!).

The year 1886, Edgewater Estate, England 6:30 in the evening:

The lights were dimmed on the night 31st October, setting the mood for what the overall feeling was at Edgewater Estate. Countess Beatrice Sinclaire was laying in bed surrounded by her four surviving children.

“Vincent, you’re the earl of Edgewater now, you have to-“ she was interrupted by a very strong coughing fit that was more wheezing than coughing

“Now mama, just rest and save your strength, there’ll be no talk of that now” Vincent, a man in his mid sixties said to his mother handing her a drink

“No- you know as much as I do that my time is drawing to a close, I must, I know that you’ll be good man, and make all the right decisions- my only regret is that I didn’t go away sooner”

“You’re a fighter mama, don’t you worry now” the third living child said

“Eustace, how are your children? I am sorry I called you over at such short notice”

“They’re doing well- they were disappointed they couldn’t visit you”

“Good, good, you look after them right, and keep fighting the discrimination against the fact you have a cane, I won’t be able to help much more, I’m afraid. Mary” Beatrice addressed her first born daughter next

“Yes mama?”

“Keep that head up and don’t let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do, you’ve come so far to let that stop you”

“I will mama, as long as you promise to let George know we haven’t forgotten about him”

“I can do that” she wheezed “Clem?”

“Mama?”

“You make sure they don’t twist any of what happened at Edgewater, yes? I don’t want any of the Karlingtons getting the facts wrong”

“I will make sure they remember”

“Good girl”

Beatrice swallowed her “I love you so much my children”

“We love you too mama, and give papa our regards” Vincent said

“I will, however, I almost don’t want to leave just yet- until I know you will all be alright”

“We will be mama, you don’t have to worry about that now, just rest, we shall be fine” Clementine spoke softly “you just worry about Papa scolding you for taking too long” she joked about the death of their father twenty years prior “he’ll be waiting for you”

“I’ve missed him so much, and I just can’t wait to see him again” Beatrice smiled weak in her old age before she shut her eyes to go to sleep

“Goodnight mama, sleep well”

Beatrice Sinclaire opened her eyes, she was stood in a room and felt..... younger.

Instinctively, she glanced down at her hands, and to her astonishment there wasn’t a single wrinkle in sight. She was young again. She glanced around at her surroundings, Edgewater? Wasn’t she just laying in bed and not standing up? What was going on? Was this some kind of dream? She looked behind her, to see her children, all as they were before she went to sleep; surrounding a dimly lit bed. What on Earth was going on?

Then there was a slight creak as the door behind her opened with a bright light surrounding it and three familiar faces walked in. She turned around and shock settled onto her face along with confusion, this had to be a dream

“Father? Mama? Lady grandmother?” Beatrice looked bewildered at the three members of her family. How could they be here?

“Beatrice” Vincent smiled as the two parents embraced their daughter

“What’s going on?”

“Don’t be afraid, my brilliant daughter” Mary spoke with the gentleness only a mother could know before pulling back from her daughter

“Your time has come to join us” Dominique smiled at her granddaughter “you’ve done well to keep Edgewater’s legacy but now it’s time for that role to be passed to someone else”

It was then that Beatrice realised what was going on, they’d come to get her and whilst she was grateful, she was bothered. She always assumed Ernest would be the one to get her, not her parents and if that was a sign that Ernest wasn’t there then she wasn’t sure she wanted to go to the next place. She looked behind her, back at her children, she also didn’t quite want to leave them just yet, they’d be devastated and what about the future of Edgewater itself? What if it all was destroyed after her death? Not that she didn’t trust her eldest son but she could never be sure about what could happen, what if something happened that was beyond their control? She had to be there-

“They’ll be alright” a new voice entered the conversation startling the woman “I’m sure of it” and there, entering the room were two faces Beatrice hadn’t seen in years, a man and a child, her heart leapt when she heard the man’s voice and the Countess, well soon to be ex-countess smiled and ran to the two new figures as their shadowy figures stepped out of the light and towards her.

“Ernest!” Beatrice exclaimed as she was swept up into her equally young looking husband’s arms “My Ernest!”

“My Beatrice” he smiled gleefully as he spun her up into the air before putting her down “my beautiful wife!”

Beatrice then crouched down to the small child beside him, a boy about six years old, she reached out to touch the boy’s face

“George”

“Mama” the six year old wrapped his arms around her “I’ve missed you mama”

“I know, I’ve missed you too but I’m here now”

“You mean you’re not going away?”

George let go of his mother who stood up glanced back at the scene behind her before turning back once more. Knowing now that with Ernest’s reassurance, she knew that the future of Edgewater was in good hands.

“No, I think it is time I passed on don’t you?” She smiled at her ghostly family “I’ve been tempted to join you all for a while, and let my other children run Edgewater accordingly”

“However, It did only take you two decades for you to actually do it” Ernest said smiling slightly in an attempt to tease his wife.

“oy, I couldn’t just leave them so soon after you had gone, what parent could bare to do that?”

“I do believe that was a jest aimed at me” Vincent said to his daughter “and I take offence to that” however his smile said otherwise

“I am quite glad your quick wit hasn’t dampened since I left you my little girl” Mary added

“Are you ready to go?” Ernest glanced at his wife, who took his hand in one hand and little George’s in the other

“As long as you’re there with me, I’m ready for anything”

with a smile, the six figures stepped into the light together. And as they did, Beatrice Sinclaire, formerly Morse, the bastard child of Vincent and Mary, champion of the realm, once mistress of Ledford Park and Countess of Edgewater, breathed out her last breath, completely ready for whatever adventure the next life will bring.

A/N 2: Now I’m thinking of writing a part two where it focuses on Ernest’s death in particular would anyone be up to that? Oh and do keep an eye out for part four (or five? I cant remember how many parts are out already) Of Family life which probably coming over Christmas holidays or sooner depending on how much University work I’ve got but I’m working on it! QUESTION 1. What has been your favorite scene in the comic so far? What specifically did you like about it?

For serious scenes, I think I gotta go with the big swordy magic scene where she saves Jake from being crushed by the statue (http://damsels-dont-wear-glasses.com/?comic_id=202) because the lighting effects are gorgeous and seeing Lave doing big magic stuff with her sword was really really cool. For silly scenes, the one that always sticks with me is Lave trying to be a host and failing miserably. (http://damsels-dont-wear-glasses.com/?comic_id=123)

2) I really liked this page. http://damsels-dont-wear-glasses.com/index.php?comic=20180423 How she just asks a random person on the street for a magic shortcut and gets an answer right away. While it's always been clear that magic is an ordinary thing, this kind of little details really shows exactly how ordinary.

I really like the prologue, particularly the part where they climb the lamppost. There's just so much character into the entire scene, and the exchanges are really cool. It's a very strong beginning for a story too, imo!!

for the worldbuilding, i especially love the variety of creatures/nonhumans we've seen so far, and how well integrated they are with the setting! it's got a classic urban fantasy vibe while also being very fresh and unique

QUESTION 4. What do you think Lave’s backstory is? Do you think she got all her scars from her job, or might some of them predate her job somehow? How do you think Jake will change the way Lave handles and deals with her life?

1) i definitely gotta go with the scene where jake is in dream world like place with aishe. I really love how this scene just suddenly adds 1000 layers of mystery. Plus, i really just love the change in color scheme. It really gives it this other worldly feel that gives me goosebumps. Plus, I also just like Aishe's design. 2) I've really been enjoying the differences in magic. Like, for example, how most zombies actually suck cause ya know...theyre dead. I feel this adds such a great twist what we expect, cause every change I feel fits a more logical setup for what the magic does. Again, like how the zombie thing makes 1000% sense cause dead bodies are not the sturdiest. I am curious about why Lave had such a reaction to Hestia magic schools, but I don't have any theories outside of magic must be viewed very differently in places.

3) Kestrel because he's such a precious failure at life. Like...he just cannot catch a break and for some reason that makes him super endearing to me. Plus now hes got the whole aishe connection thing going on so that makes him double interesting. But mostly I want to boop him for all his failures. 4) I would think some of her scares would have to predate her job. Cause she's...she's got a lot of them. And considering she mentioned having been in jail, I'm kind of struck with the idea that maybe she ran with a gang or something. She super gives me the impression of someone who mostly raised herself and didnt have a huge loving family involved in teaching her how to deal with life. I think Jake will be a good influence on her though and teach her to be more careful. Cause she seems very fun loving and reckless, and while that can work when youre solo, its not great when you have other ppl. Like i think the Kestrel thing was a good example cause I felt Lave perhaps was too loose cannon with it, which semi resulted in Kestrel almost kicking the bucket. And Jake is like 1000 times more fragile, and I think it'll force Lave to see that she cant protect anybody if she goes around without a plan.

@Capitania do Azar that scene with Kest and lave interacting around the lamp-post was actually the moment I decided Kest worked well as a main character. He was honestly going to die in the original draft. @keii4ii thanks! I super love just....the mundane feeling of everyday magic. @Delphina Honestly Lave just being a f--k up is probably my fav part of writing her character, especially for comedic effect XD Next to drawing glowy magic scenes of course.(edited)

@RebelVampire Oh wow this is a lot. Thank you! ;-; dammit I really can't respond to these kind of questions cus spoilers. But I'm glad you noticed a lot of my characters having...well a habit of messing up (and Lave did not handle that first chap well cough) XD Also Aishe is my fav character to draw, because Kest is my fav character to draw only its + because glowy effects. I do really like when more real world logic is put in fantasy, like corpses making for bad heavy hitters unless they're in a swarm. So I'm super glad you liked that!

4. If Lave's style has always been what we've seen so far, then all those scars don't surprise me at all! They'd be the natural consequence of past encounters, work related or otherwise. It just kinda feels that everything ends with someone getting punched around her

3. I've really liked pretty much everyone, but I think Lave's my favorite cuz she's sturdy but messy and I feel there's a lot to be learned about her aha

And also she prolly also has a lot to learn

6. Jake feels a lot like is somebody important's family but important could mean a lot of things. And has for his discomfort, I think it mostly stems from not knowing/being used to all this magic, which gives me the idea that some of these cities are less magical than others

5. Not an illustration, but I really love how in the last pages, as the sun rises, the colors become brighter and the sky becomes pink!!

It really helps bringing home the feeling that the night is over and the quietness of early morning, which is kinda fitting since they also stopped fighting

I think I gotta go with Lave as my favorite character too because competent + ridiculous + magical +swordy is my entire jam so she's sorta the best of all worlds. Gena holds a special place in my heart too because she's clearly trying to keep a lot of things together.

Illustration-wise, I love how things like Jake's anxiety (http://damsels-dont-wear-glasses.com/?comic_id=198) or Chirovision (http://damsels-dont-wear-glasses.com/?comic_id=237) or Aisheland (http://damsels-dont-wear-glasses.com/?comic_id=225) traveling through magic spaces (http://damsels-dont-wear-glasses.com/index.php?comic=20170501) make the palette and rendering different depending on the mood. Really good use of a more abstract style to convey tone and worldbuilding.

(Now I want there to be a DDWG theme park where there's weird places like Aisheland)

Or that Jake's family is super high up in rank somehow and just went "nah man we dont want this kid no more." while i def think some of jake's hate comes from ignorance, i also get the impression that jake had a bad experience with non-humans. something about jake's reactions just really strike me as ptsd. overall yeah, i think jake is gonna have to overcome it. plus, exposure breeds familiarity. its hard to be in the lion's den and continue to hate the lions.

7) jake and basically any non-human. I really just enjoy seeing jake's various reactions of "eww no" and then having to be confronted with the fact that not all non-humans are bad. It just makes me more and more curious about jake's past. plus, all these interactions really serve as a great tracking devices for how jake evolves in opinion. 8) With Kestrel, I kind of think someone is trying to draw Aishe out. I mean Aishe does have pretty neat butterflies and powers, so I can't blame them. Though I assume its a revenge thing cause I get the impression ppl arent all that happy with Aishe. But thus why other illegal items are being involved because you need powerful stuff to get to the powerful people.

11. The world building and color scheme are definitely strong points. It feels fully fleshed out and magical, but also very grounded like it's this amazing magical place that's also totally normal. Also, the characters. Having a bunch of flawed characters with baggage is always more interesting than having perfect characters with no problems and even the bit characters feel dynamic. Like they have their own story and interests rather than being part of the scenery exsisting only for the MCs to interact with.

9) The thing I appreciate the most details wise is just the physical flaws. Especially Lave's scars. Adding details like that can be really tedious, yet it really helps deliver so much character that I always enjoy when the time is taken to include things like that. 10) I feel like Aishe is probably some necromancer from the past who is trying to rectify a mistake that was made. I think Aishe helped for the reason they said: Jake did a kindness and gotta pay that shit forward. I feel like Lave is 100% not going to trust aishe and basically just encourage everyone to do the same. Maybe suggest Kestral seek professional help. But yeah, I don't see a green butterfly person flying with Lave XD 11) I think this comic's strengths lie in two areas. First, the implementation of magic. There are clear rules, there's enough deviations from the standard to be interesting, and the fact its presented as a normal culture thing is well-integrated. second, the color palettes are really amazing and suit the tone and atmosphere of each scene really well. 12) I feel like Chiro might be a bit special since that one person did wonder what species Chiro was or something like that. And that because of this specialness Chiro was outcasted. Hence why he wound up with Lave cause ya know, outcasts gotta stick together. I think Chiro and Jake will bond for sure down the road. Cause i mean Chiro did just help save Jake's butt, and thats gotta earn him some Jake points right?

I never tried spotify before, but I have installed Pandora. I didnt like the app, so I uninstalled it. I listen to soundcloud mostly.

When I had a room, I kept it clean.

It depends. Like, whenever I wore eyeliner and mascara, my eyes took on a green color. Naturally, my eyes are a shade of blue with hints of some kind of color I cant describe.

I loved it, just wish they had given the Grisha vs Frieda segment more time and fully animated it rather than show it in flashes and stills. Though it wouldn't surprise me if they do later when we get his full story.

It was awesome! I'm starting to enjoy this season more with each episode. I'm hyped for the action next episode.

Once the uprising arc is done, this episode will definitely be included in my favorite episodes list.

I was skeptical at first of the changes they were making to Frieda's foreshadowing, but the sequencing of events in the episode made up for it! Everything flowed so smoothly, from Eren's memories to Historia's, introducing the concept of mindwipe immunity followed immediately by Kenny's old talk with his grandpa. Each point led right into the next.

This week's episode felt almost slow with the way it ended. I'm not complaining, although I feel the sting of all those missed moments that got cut off prior to this.

This episode was freaking awesome. I keep replaying the scene where Eren sees Grisha's memories. The whole sequence and the OST is amazing!!

When it comes to rating these last few eps, I keep second-guessing myself on how to rate them. On the one hand, they've been fairly faithful to the manga and the animation, as always, has been top notch. So in that aspect they are good and deserve a high rating. It's just that the Uprising arc is so incredibly dull to me, that I am also not exactly excited about these eps and probably will skip all of them on future rewatches. But the anime is not to blame for that. ¯\_㋡_/¯

Eren unlocking Grisha’s memories was the big moment of the episode, winning the majority vote. Followed closely is Historia unlocking her memories of Frieda, Rod’s retelling of Grisha’s attack and Kenny’s flashback to his talk with his grandpa.

I also enjoyed the Ackerman talk, it gives more significance to what’s to come in the future

OPENING SCENE WAS BOMB

I absolutely love Frieda! She was the greatest sister ever. Too bad she had to die so young. I liked her voice as well :) The scene with her and Historia symbolized peace, love and happiness, while the scenes in the crystal cave symbolized pain and sorrow. I liked that.

WHEN FRIEDA READS HISTORIA THE FAIRY TALE, THE “GOOD GIRL” CHARACTER IS NAMED KRISTA. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS ADDITION? 478 Responses

It was a close split between excitement over seeing (or rather, being reminded) how Historia got the name “Krista” for her persona and those who are questioning the validity of the name in the book. We also received plenty of snarky reminders that we overlooked the detail of this being mentioned in chapter 51. Perhaps it’s time for us to take a week off! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I love how they’re differentiating the Marleyan legend from the Eldian one

I thought I was supposed to be Ymir, but I think it’s a really interesting addition to how Historia got the name Krista.

Since we know Rod gave her the name Krista, it felt kinda irrelevant. It also somehow implies that Krista's personality is the result of what remained in Historia's head from Frieda's preaching which I don't think was necessary to justify at all. Historia could've chosen to be the kind of girl Krista is by herself.

I love how, as time passed and memories changes, Ymir Fritz became Krista Lenz. And so, both Ymir and Historia got named by someone else after the same person. I love it.

It's not really an addition since her name appeared in the manga (at the beginning of chapter 51 when Historia goes crazy)

It did make things pretty confusing. I think that the government could've entirely changed the story of Ymir and the titan's and renamed Ymir in the books, and that's why she is now called Christa.

On one hand I think it's appropriate because the Reiss family didn't want Historia to know the Eldian history, yet I think the specific name of Krista wasn't a great decision because as I remember it, Rod was the one who made Historia take on the name Krista, so to suggest that Historia chose it because of that story is inconsistent.

‪Historia did say Krista was “a girl from a book she read as a child” in chapter 51, but learning in chapter 86 that the girl is Ymir Fritz led some people to believe that, back then, Historia was referring only to the girl's personality and not her name. The anime just clarified that in Frieda's book she is indeed named Krista, perhaps suggesting the story has different versions in Marley/the world and Paradis.‬

Kenny is beautiful and the transition from younger to older Kenny in the reflection of his knife was my absolute favorite part of the entire episode.

Kenny was a highlight in this episode once again, I especially loved the flashback scene with him and grandpa Ackerman talking about family history after Levi and Mikasa's Ackertalk. The transition back to Levi was really unsubtle, though.

Finally we arrived to my favorite part of this arc. Even though it doesn't have that much action as the other seasons, this is the part I love the most. Knowing how Eren got the Attack AND the Founding titans, Historia becoming the rightful queen of the walls, Levi's backstory, Kenny's dream and his friendship with Rod Reiss' brother, learning that there's a world outside of the walls by Keith Shadis; all of this until the fight against the collosal and armored titans back in Shignashina district and everybody discovering the sea.

Now I finally understand why Kenny killed so many MP officers. I used to believe he had done that for fun. Now I know he did that to protect his family. I really enjoyed the moments between him and his grandpa - it made me to feel how important the bloodline was for him.

I'm a bit disappointed that they made Frieda's titan hair black, I was hoping for it to be a lighter colour, and I preferred the lighter hair a bit more. But overall her titan form was pretty cool!

They left out the part where Kenny tells Rod he is looking for a bathroom because he has to go #2! ಠ_ಠ How could they skip that after they included the whole poop machine scene?! I also wasn’t sure how I felt about the girl being named Krista in the book being read to Historia. I thought that was supposed to be Ymir. Otherwise, the episode was superb.

Erwin is my husband and I love it when he goes into Commander Mode™. Also so not ready for more information about Levi’s childhood, and yet also I need to see Little Levi™ at the same time

FRIEDA WAS GREAT

Now that two big plot points are over (the overthrowing of the government and Grisha’s deed) and another one is under way, I can say this season is so underwhelming compared to the manga. There is no suspense, no feeling of satisfaction, no tension, because they cut too many parts in the beginning that hinted at future events (eren’s experiments for examples) and simplified characters’ moral struggles that i think are understandable only to us manga readers because “we know”. I think, for a story (the one of uprising) that relied on suspense so much, this lighting-fast, confusing pace just made every victory totally underwhelming. I’m left with a feeling of “oh...okay” and i am hating it because the Uprising Arc is my favorite manga Arc.

With this episode I'm back to being sad about how coldly Erwin is portrayed again, but I guess that is just the way it's going to be. I don't think anyone can be as successful of a leader as Erwin has been with such a cold and uncaring facade, so I'm just going to agree to disagree with Isayama and WIT how a character like Erwin should be portrayed. The only positive about the anime is how Erwin's developing depression is really hammered home in this and the previous episode. From the manga it was quite unclear to me how all that had happened, but now I can see the progression very clearly starting from Erwin's little talk with Zackley the Creepy Artist and continuing with Pixis' merciless opinion of Erwin and his gamble.

Yeah for all the flashbaCks! And omg Frieda!! I love her sooo much! I was looking forward to see her in this episode and I'm not disappointed at all! I just wanted to hug her and little Historia! ;-;

THOUGHTS ON EPISODE 5:

104th celebrating their freedom was dope

I really loved this episode because Erwin had his chance to shine for once. I especially loved the foreshadowing of what a huge mistake they might have just made with the coup d'état. And I loved seeing my second favourite commander, Nile, as well! He's been growing on me for a longer while now, but the anime is really reminding me how Nile has always been a sensible but kind person.

Episode was ok. The cinematography of the episode was rather lacking at points and without some of the conversations with Nile and Pixis, the confrontation is somewhat oversimplified.

The conversation between Erwin and Zackley broke my heart. Implying the two would have anything in common is outrageous, and Erwin's reaction to the comparison is the proof of it. Erwin was so human and vulnerable in that moment that I thought finally they did justice to his character.

EREN'S ABS WILL NEVER BE GOOD ENOUGH TO REPLACE ERWIN'S AND LEVI'S ABS!!! THAT'S THE WORST BETRAYAL EVER, WIT!!!!!

I like that there is more and more dialogue and information during the recent episodes!

i thought it was good. at the time i was sad the "do you remember your father's sin" reveal wasn't the cliffhanger but since it was the opening for this episode and it was amazing in my opinion i have no problems.

That cliffhanger with Historia was great! I wonder if they'll be able to replicate the one in the manga where it looks like she's about to inject herself. It'll be disappointing if they don't.

The Hange monologue at the end, however, with Levi's input was really weird and it didn't make much sense to me how they could infer so many ""clues"" about the truth and the Reiss family from what Hange was telling. The same is true about Armin's sudden but oh so convenient musings about how Eren inherited his titan powers. It was clear foreshadowing, but really badly executed.

I watched Crazy Rich Asians with my Dad

And my sister. It’s actually been several weeks since the event now but I still want to write about it, because there was some personal significance in it for me, and also because, honestly, it was a fun movie.

Disclaimer: I’ve only seen the movie once, and as mentioned, that was a while ago now so apologies if my memory is a bit hazy. Also, I haven’t read the book.

So the story of how this came to be starts with dad seeing some commentary about the movie on Chinese TV or WeChat or wherever Asians get their info from these days. He thought Constance Wu looked a lot like an actress he was into when he was young so he wanted to watch it. Funnily enough, neither my youngest sister nor I had watched it yet and so we organised a bit of a family outing (though it was technically only half the family).

I really can’t remember the last time I was in a movie theatre with any one of my parents. It must have been way back in primary school (which is like, almost 20 years ago now). I remember dad taking us out to eat at the foodcourts before climbing the escalators all the way to the top of the shopping centre to get to the cinema. He would purchase the tickets on the spot though the line was never very long. We would always get popcorn because it was such a rare treat for us, even though we would never finish it.

Cut to today and I’ll pretty much have consumed half a large popcorn before the movie even starts (I swear the ads before the movie these days just get longer and longer). I am also a pretty frequent movie-goer, complete with a membership card. Poor dad must have had a bit of a shock when I just scanned my phone in the priority queue to get our tickets. Also that the shopping centre had been completely renovated since the last time he was there.

Admittedly though, some things do stay the same: the buttery smell of the popcorn, and the nostalgic, childlike excitement of wandering down the corridor to get to the cinemas.

Ok that’s enough self-indulgent reminiscing. Time for some analysis.

Overall I though the movie was pretty solid. It was simple with a straightforward plot, but its appeal for me was definitely it’s relatability. I think this movie has a little bit of something for everyone, whether East or West. Asians who don’t come from a traditional family background will likely relate to Rachel, while Asians who do will find the whole first half hilarious. Anyone who fits even just half the description of a Millennial will absolutely love the best friend Peik Lin. If you’ve fallen in love before, know someone who’s fallen in love, have a kid with a partner etc., there’s probably something for you in this movie. Even if you are none of the above, the sheer spectacle of the shit crazy rich Asians get up to should be enough to entertain.

Unfortunately I don’t think the story direction was as strong as the characters. The way I see it, there were a handful of really brilliant scenes, and then everything else was kind of meh (as in they weren’t bad, but they were just good. Standard).

Unsurprisingly, the scenes I enjoyed the most were ones that carried through thematic elements that were foreshadowed in the beginning (HSC kids call this ‘textual integrity’ btw). Surprisingly, my dad also enjoyed those scenes, although for slightly different reasons.

So as a tribute to that, in a slight twist on my usual formula, I am going to analyse my dad’s favourite scenes.

**Spoilers start here if it wasn’t obvious**

Big House

Rachel visits her friend from college Peik Lin, before going to Nick’s house. Peik Lin is an awesome, down to earth character, however her family is pretty over the top and the first instance we see this is in their huge house. It’s a mansion, complete with a friggin’ water fountain and even gold plating on the ceilings or something. Rachel definitely does not relate to this extravagance, which is exemplified when she mentions something dumb about the gold plating (I cant for the life of me remember exactly what she said but the idea is it made her look like a peasant).

However this is directly juxtaposed when they go to Nick’s, whose family owns so much land they can’t even find the house. There are also two threatening-looking foreign guards (which kind of borders on racism), but the exaggeration here is used to visually convey the fact Nick’s family is a pretty big deal.

Mahjong

This was definitely my favourite scene of the whole movie and I was very impressed with its execution. The brilliance of this scene lies in its visual storytelling. Case in point: dad could only understand half the script but was able to grasp the full meaning of the scene just by looking at how the game was played.

In this scene, Rachel has made up her mind to leave Nick on her own accord, however wants to make it clear to Eleanor it is not because she was bullied into it. The meeting spot is an area where a lot of elderly people gather to kill time by playing Mahjong, a far cry from the glamorous world we’ve seen for most of the movie.

However Eleanor knows how to play, because just like Rachel she was taught by her mother. This is a good reminder that Eleanor’s life was not always easy, and a key theme of respect and gratitude for the mother figure shines through.

As they play, Rachel explains her reason for leaving: if Nick is forced to choose between his girlfriend or his mother, he will be miserable. As they are talking we see Rachel pick up a tile. It is actually a winning tile for her, but she chooses to discard it. Eleanor then grabs it and wins. This was the part dad picked up on: in Mahjong speak it means “I let you win”, which is a beautiful complement to Rachel’s key message. If Nick ends up with a girl who Eleanor does approve of in the future, know that it was all possible because of the choice Rachel made today.

Game over, Rachel leaves with her mother, the back view of their walking figures leaving at once a powerfully supportive yet fragile image.

One other thing I noticed about this scene is how it reflects the game of poker Rachel played in her lecture at the start of the film. She bluffed her way to victory there in order to teach her class about Game Theory. This works because no matter how hard the odds are stacked against her, she stands her ground and puts on a show of bravery: she may have lost the game, but she’s still in the battle.

Proposal

This scene was pretty predictable but the way it is constructed leads to a great pay-off. Nick catches Rachel as soon as she boards her plane back to America. They are in two different aisles and Nick talks while walking to maintain the same pace with Rachel.

He narrates the way he had planned to propose to her: on a secret beach with the beauty of the sunset in the background. It’s a super idealistic image and kind of reminds me of Lenny’s American Dream scene in Of Mice and Men.

Of course, his speech is hilariously juxtaposed with the reality that they are on a plane and Nick has to get out of the way of other passengers, even stopping to help one with their luggage at one point.

The cramped economy cabin is also a sharp contrast to the luxurious First Class cabin they arrived in Singapore in.

Nick jumps to Rachel’s aisle to get on one knee and finally propose to her. I appreciated the totally random woman squealing in the background while hugging Rachel’s mum but I appreciated even more that the ring Nick presents to her is Eleanor’s. The story of the ring is that it was custom-made by her husband because his mother wouldn’t give them hers because she disapproved of Eleanor. It is very obvious symbolism but incredibly satisfying nonetheless.

I appreciate this movie so much more than I normally would because of the opportunity it gave for me to have a proper conversation with my dad. Since I started working full-time, I’ve realised just how much I’ve taken these family moments for granted.

I really hope movies like this, which bridge the gap between East and West, and between parent and child, will become more mainstream in the future.

My book opinions/habits:

I don't typically hate books (meaning I can't think of anything I regret reading, and I don't go out of my way to find things to make me hate a book, or rather I don't let minor things take away from my overall experience. Be mad at that if you want, I don't care

Learning that my favorite books are, or could be, getting a movie adaptation literally ruins my entire day.

I tend to read more than one book at one time. (Like one at work, and a different one at home)

I prefer to know the ending (usually i read the last page at least. Sometimes I read the whole synopsis of a book). It's the journey that I enjoy, not the suspense (I hate the suspense)

I prefer rereading books. First time read are hard for me, the second+ read throughs are the most satisfying

When I read, I visually see the scene in my head. I don't know how else to explain it. I know some people are like this and some aren't (meaning don't interrupt me reading to ask if it's a good book because you've done ruined the visual in my mind)

Because of the above, amongst other reasons, you will not find me writing in a book or tabbing in a book. I'm not quote-looking (that interrupts the journey). If there is a quote that I do actually like, most likely I remember it afterwards and tell people. But I do not vandalize in my books (exceptions: textbooks in school)

I love keeping all my books in a like-new condition. The only ones showing wear are my most loved ones that have probably been read 5+ times

I keep all my books. Even if it wasn't something I loved, it still looks good on the bookshelf. My goal in life to to have my own personal library. The only books I've given away where ones that I rebought (such as getting the hardcover to replace a paperback, etc)

I have no preference of hardback to paperback; however, there are some poorly make paperbacks. So I avoid those

I don't like ebooks. I will read them at work, but I get a ebook version of the book I'm currently reading (meaning I do not have a ebook of something I do not have physically)

I prefer the whole series to be out before I read it. (I've actually been putting off the newest shadowhunter book because I want to wait for the last to be released)

Just like my music taste, I love to torture myself with the really sad books. (First book to make me cry: Clockwork Princess and that damn epilogue. Maybe a more surprisingly book to make me cry: Six of Crows)

I hate real-life politics, but boy do I love it in books. And I get very analytical

I love morally grey characters. Especially if it's the antagonist

...I actually prefer male protagonists. But I think because I feel like a lot of female protagonists are poorly written. I want to love them too.

Adding to the above: I rarely dislike the protagonists, or most characters in general. (Really the only protagonist I cant stand is Lena from Beautiful Creatures)

I don't care for overly detailed descriptions (more for objects, not people). However, I prefer when they give a good idea of what the characters look like.

I love endings that tie up all loose ends. I don't care for endings being up for interpretation. I find them unsatisfying.

I don't like cliff hangers

Speaking of tropes: I love a good father-son bond in a book. They're rare to find (it doesn't literally have to be father and son, but it could be a relationship reminiscent of it) (rare, because usually the dads are dead) (bonus points if the dads the anatagonist 😂)

Unpopular one: I don't mind love triangles. It's usually pretty obvious which one it going to win out anyway...

Another unpopular opinion: I don't mind predictable plot lines, because again it's the journey I enjoy. So if the story is good, no matter the direction it's going: cliché, overused, or whatever, then I'll probably still enjoy it

I LOVE books with multiple points of view.

I love third-person POV. But it doesn't have to be, just bonus points if it is

I don't read nonfiction or self-help books, that sounds terribly boring

It takes me longer to read Manga than books. I don't know why

I find mystery/murder or thriller novels boring. Unless if its a secondary part to the book, then I suppose that's okay.

I like books that do tackle tougher subjects. And if a books gets controversial, then I'm more likely to read it to figure out why...

I use sticky notes as a bookmark. They're the best. I usually use the same one until it's no longer sticky, then I trade for a new one

I do not break spines or overly bend paperbacks. No thank you

Somehow, I tend to get spaghetti sauce on every book.

To me, a small book is 400 pages or less. Medium sized book is 400-700 pages. A large book is over 700 pages. I determine this based on me, for sure, being able to read a small book in a day. Whereas a medium sized one take a little more than a day, and a large is multiple days. I rarely get time to read a whole book in a day anymore, but in high school, on a day off, I could read a 600 page book in one day (if that's all I did)

Lastly, circling back to movie adaptations, rarely I find things I like in the movie more. Example: The Hunger Games mockingjay pin has more meaning to me in the movie than it did in the book. (Honestly, this may be the only one but I just like everyone to know c:)

first off, you’re right in thinking this is something i would care to hear! i’ve actually had a pretty emotional and trying week, and seeing this after i got home today was really lovely and brightened my mood so thank you ): i remembered that list out of nowhere the other day, too. i’m glad you found something on there you like! (also buying books you read months or even uh years later... big mood). i’m really happy to hear all of this honestly, i’ve been kind of on a journey of reconnecting with things these past few months and tbh getting a lot out of it, so it’s for real nice to know it’s benefitting someone else, too. i’m just out here trying my best, and i’m always glad to be smth positive for others if i at all can!! i’m really kind of a dumb nerd so it’s definitely not creepy, it’s really flattering!

that book has a lot of nice memories attached to it because i read it at a time where i needed the reminder to go back to the basics on what type of story i love, and more importantly what sorts of stories i want to tell myself. i bought it on a whim while trying to clam down from a panic attack, and i think i ugly cried through almost all of it haha. it’s portrait of longing manages to be both soft and sharp, like a fox in the arms of sufjan stevens... but for real, i appreciate how it describes a sort of raw, uncertain intimacy that has always been so resonate to me as a queer person. it captures the immediacy of that tension as well as nostalgia for the initial sexual awakening, which is a solid one-two punch as they say. i’ve read a fair amount of Discourse (TM) on this novel (not the age difference discourse tho lmao bc frankly... idc) and i don’t think it captures a universally relatable queer experience by any means esp bc it’s technically written from an outsider perspective, but it speaks very well to a certain experience of emotional intimacy that’s rooted in instantaneous, and often inexplicable, similarity and understanding. the ending is like, crushing, i feel you on that. part of me can’t help but feel it’s fitting for the tone, though, and i almost wish they’d kept it in the movie bc i saw a few too many bad takes about the ambiguity of it. i always read the book ending as oliver being clearly closeted in some capacity. (i did like the movie overall, i was also Incredibly Determined to hype it). i was thinking about re-reading it one of these days, so i might just soon...

April, You Will Be Remembered

It’s the 1st of May!! I want to post about some unforgettable April 2019 moments because I want to keep the memories that someday I want to remember again. So many things happened in the month. There were some heart-breaking incidents and of course there were some enjoyable moments as well. I’m just gonna highlight the things I want to remember the most. Here they are!!

BLACK HOLE

It is announced that on 10th April 2019 a group of scientist from the international Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) releasing the image of a black hole to public. This project was began in 2006. It took supercomputers, eight telescopes stationed on five continents, hundreds of researchers, and vast amounts of data to accomplish (source: the verge).

I was not someone who understands much about space life, even though I studied the basic knowledge when I was in secondary and high school. However, I appreciated a lot this not easy job. I used to have a dream to be an astronomer when I was a kid, but i have to come to realization that I’m not smart enough to pursue the dream, lol. I’m currently into astronauts’ life though. I watch documentaries, read articles and other sources about astronaut’s and space’s life. So that, it made me happy to read this news. Moreover, one of the computer scientists in the team who led the development program to get the first-image of black hole is a woman named Katie Bouman. She is just 29-year-old when she did that. She is amazing!! I always wonder what kind of method those people use when they are studying. I mean, how could they be so smart? I feel like I’m such a useless and stupid human being. I’m nothing huhu. Anyway, I’m happy to witness the history of the first image of black hole.

GAME OF THRONES

FINALLY, WINTER IS COMING. I might not be the fan of the show since day 1. I just started watching game of thrones in 2017. Ever since I watched the first season, I started becoming a fan and addicted to the show then finished all of the 7 seasons in a few weeks. The show is that addictive, it made me threw any dramas/movies for about 6 months because I felt that the show was too well executed and any other movies/dramas in that time period I was watching the show felt bland. I’m sorry, I didn’t intend to belittle other shows. It’s just the thing I felt that moment. I was so mesmerized by the storyline which literally beyond my expectation. It was so good. I know there are a lot of people who don’t like the show, and it’s okay as everyone has their own preference. But to me, this show is so far my very favourite one.

It took me 2 years to wait for the last season which is season 8 to be aired. I cant contain my feelings as I was so excited about this. AAAANNDDDDD IT’S FINALLY HERE. GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8 IS HAPPENING. 14th April 2019 should be put as a history date as the show was aired on that day. Actually, I’m pretty sad that there will be just 6 episodes. I wish they make it to 10, but who am I to complain?

Okay, back to the show. The most talked episode is episode 3, the Battle of Winterfell, which was shown in that very episode. The episode lasts for about 80 minutes long. The thing that has been waited since season 1 was the war between the alive and the dead. There are so much reactions and opinions regarding the episode, fans are splitted into two groups, the one who enjoyed the episode and the one who disliked the episode as it didn’t reach their expectation. I’m the one who included to the first one, I pretty enjoyed the show although I think it wasn’t the greatest battle in Game of Thrones. My favourite battle was Battle of Bastards as it was really tensed. But, I still like the Battle of Winterfell though. As of now, I want to put aside the negativity and just enjoy the rest of episodes. I’m planning on reading the books after the show is over.

One thing that I really like about episode 3 is the hyped from the people who watched together in cafes, restaurants, and other place. Their reactions were priceless. See these videos that went viral on twitter!!

ELECTION

One of the most tiring to bear ever since social media era existed is election. The countries that pursue democracy usually conduct election to choose their own leader, including my country. In the past, there weren’t much sources to search about election information other than from tv and newspaper, so that the backlash could be reduced. But it’s different now. In this digital age, people can share everything including the positive and negative contents. Social media as one of the tools for people to do campaign and spread either good thing or black-campaign for the election candidates. ISTG, this is so tiring to witness people bashing each other and most of them have crossed the line. I’m so done!

In Indonesia, for 2019’s election, there were some changes compare to the previous election. They were included the period of time of campaign which was so long (about 7 months) and also adding the other 3 elections of legislative to be held in the same very day. It used to be held in different months, but due to the lack of participation in legislative election so that they were all conducted together.

I was eager for this to end soon. It finally happened on 17th April 2019. But, something bad happened again. The incident which happened in 2014 was re-enacted as both candidates claimed they win. Even though the quick count results from about 12 institutions showed that Jokowi-Amin led the vote by gaining about 54% votes while Prabowo-Sandi gained around 44% votes. I’m so done with this. I will just wait for the official results to be announced and I wish on that day there will be no chaos happen.

Aside of that, something that breaks my heart is there were a lot of election officers died and fell sick due to exhaustion from working way too hard as most of them working until very late night and some even worked until the next morning because there were so many jobs to do, including counting the vote for legislative elections (DPR, DPRD, DPD). Although there were no major incident happened during the election process itself, but still this thing supposed to not happen. There is definitely something wrong with the system and it should be fixed so that there will be no victims anymore.

MOURNING IN SRI LANKA

21st April 2019 is Easter Day. Things supposed to be calm and sacred on that day. But disgusting act ruined it all. Multiple bombing attacks happened in several places in Sri Lanka, including at churches and hotels. Hundred of people died and many people got injured. Some extremists claimed they are responsible for the attacks, SMH. I wish the ones who dead are resting in peace, while the ones who got injured will get well soon and receive some strength to continue life. and for the terrorists, I wish you die in suffer and go to hell!!

I don’t get why in 2019, hatred ideology is still growing fast in this world. Sadly, in some developed-countries which the citizen are more educated, this ideology also exist. People should learn that the differences that make this world beautiful. Why some people feel like they want to hurt each other just because they have differences in term of race, skin colour, religion, countries, ideology, etc. We need to respect each other differences as long as it doesn’t violate the rule of law.

I think there should be a formal lesson in school to teach students to respect the differences. Parents should teach their children right too. Sadly, I found a lot of parents who taught their children to hate people who are different from them. This needs to be stopped. Everyone deserves to get equal treatment. We all want a better future. We cant reach this as long as we still fight each other because of the differences. Just put aside it and look the bigger picture, the same goal we want to pursue. As of now, i’m kinda sceptical if we can reach peace in the near future. However, someday in the future, I wish the world will be a better place to live in. Amen

AVENGERS ENDGAME

Marvel fans have anticipated the final movie from Avengers United. They are excited as well as sad as the avengers series come to end. Avengers Endgame was screened since 26th April 2019 in my country. There were so much fans who purchased pre-order ticket in a few days prior to the movie screening. It’s kinda cray because the cinemas are full packed with the audiences. Most cinemas even dedicated all of their studios for this movie as the demands are very high then putting aside the other movies. I feel bad for the other movies as they didn’t get time slot for their movies in cinema because of Avengers movie. I wish this wont last long as other movies deserve to get screened as well.

Okay, back to Avengers Endgame movie. Just in March 2019, I watched Captain Marvel movie and in April, I got to watch the last movie of Avengers. I’m actually not a big fan of Superheroes movies, I’m just a casual viewer who enjoyed the movies and i enjoyed watching this one as well. Avengers Endgame runs for 181 minutes, it’s pretty long. I came to bathroom in the middle of movie though, lol.

Overall, I like this movie as I think everything was executed very well. The cinematography, the sound, the edit, the effect are totally top-class work as well as the casts and their act. It really gives everyone goosebumps during the war between Avengers United and Thanos and his soldiers. I couldn’t blink my eye any second because I didn’t want to miss anything. Even though, I felt like I wanted to go to number 1 again in the middle of war scene, but I held it until the movie was over, lol. The movie is worth the hyped though. It’s indeed a masterpiece. I think I’m gonna rewatch it later. But, first I need to watch several marvel movies that I haven’t watched yet so everything will connect and make sense as I still didn’t understand some part. Anyway, thanks marvel for presenting a very well done job!! Goodbye or See you (?) Avengers!!
