Y’all, I know the Coffee Theory is kinda a mixed bag. But man, I have never wanted a theory to be true in my entire life….buttttttt I think it unlikely for this to be confirm and I’m content with this.
(edit: warning! If you haven’t seen Season 2/1 of Good Omen or just new, please be warn that this does contain HEAVY SPOILERS for the show don’t read this just yet or you can read it, you’re free to do whichever :)) just don’t say I didn’t warn you)
See here the thing, this theory, does sound interesting, it could work within good omen….on paper. Only because, I don’t know exactly how it would work for Aziraphale’s character; considering the more I think about it, the more I am realize it wouldn’t have matter if the coffee was miracle,drugged or anything. Aziraphale is still an Angel, I made a post of it where I’ve mention that Aziraphale, yes, he understand/realized that Heaven is just Hell in different font and colors; he still is grasping onto the hope that hopefully that there still good within them. But also Aziraphale would do ANYTHING to make thing better for not only humanity but for Crowley as that just how hospitable and selfless he is; and it to a fault and that’s what make Aziraphale such a complex character and why he’s absolutely my favorite character (besides also Crowley they both my favorite idiots). He might be good and have good intention but good intentions ≠ good moral. Especially since this isn’t exactly the first time he choose heaven above everything for the sake of wanting to be “good” and not Fall, he literally had a panic of possible falling just because he lied even though Heaven (during the Job episode) and the Archangels treat him like he odd one out (hell, even Crowley had to endure that even when he was aziraphale in disguise in Episode 6 of season 1 when Gabriel said “shut your stupid mouth and die already” and other insult but that one as you see in season 2 really got to Crowley.) this is all Aziraphale’s religious trauma coming to light and also his response to it all; this is him going through a character development and I’m excited for season 3 to see where it goes and just hope he and Crowley get the happily ever after they so honorably deserves like all the couples we’ve seen in this show.
Now with that out the way, I will give this theory some merit/defense: if this theory is true, this could be an interesting move on heaven as it will show…just how far they’re willing to go to make sure they make Armageddon and win this holy war against Hell. So them possibility mind-controlling Aziraphale just show their morals are, but frankly, who didn’t know that heaven is bad? They’re the same people who was going to kill Jobs kids and everything he owned to turn around and say “at least you can get more” with a pat on the back. And you know, this theory does make aziraphale less responsible for his decision which ultimately will make episode 6 of season 2 possible more sadder as this wouldn’t have been Aziraphale’s choice, (then again he didn’t exactly have a choice to begin with.) as well as giving Crowley more justification as why he could never say he 100% good and also maybe give Aziraphale more trauma. But I do understand for those whom want this theory to be true as it could give a reason of the coffee and also a reason to want to write heaven and all the archangel on the death notebook, as i do have those moment to maybe make the situation while just as heartbreaking for both Crowley and Aziraphale also give hope that this wasn’t exactly 100% Aziraphale’s choice. (But also give people who like protective Crowley to rescue Aziraphale, which ngl I can see it whether theory is true or not considering something Crowley said while Aziraphale was in Scotland)
Honestly I’m torn with this, I wanted to rant about this since while I do think the theory can be a interesting plot twist to have though I do think it kinda diminishes Aziraphale’s character and his arc as a whole. But I will say, Crowley would most definitely go feral and deliver his revenge serve cold.

Once again, as a reminder, Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji are the text's literary mirrors to each other, in all adaptions. I am not a fan of the plot shift for CQL so this will mostly just be talking about the novel for this rant.
Lan Wangji is the positive pillar of maturity growth, while Jiang Cheng is the stagnant regressive one. They are the opposing points of moral conflict for Wei Wuxian to choose from and is the classic set up even with choosing the childhood friend (that nice false romantic lead reading) and the Love Interest that beat for beat follows the main character's subconscious yearnings and ideals of morality.
The most blatant tellings of this are the way Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji choose to deal with Wei Wuxian when he is faced with the backlash of the cultivation sect's anger.
“Wei WuXian, have you still not realized what the situation at hand is like? Do you really need me to say it out loud? If you insist on protecting them, then I won’t be able to protect you.”
Wei WuXian, “There’s no need to protect me. Just let go.”
Jiang Cheng’s face twisted.
Wei WuXian, “Just let go. Tell the world that I defected. From now on, no matter what Wei WuXian does, it’d have nothing to do with the YunmengJiang Sect.”
Jiang Cheng, “… All for the Wen Sect…? Wei WuXian, do you have a savior complex? Is it that you’ll die if you don’t stand up for someone and stir up some trouble?”
Wei WuXian stayed quiet. A while later, he answered, “So that’s why we should cut ties right now, in case anything I do affects the YunmengJiang Sect in the future.”
Or else, he really couldn’t make any guarantees on what he’d do in the future.
“…” Jiang Cheng murmured, “My mom said that you do nothing but bring our sect trouble. It’s true indeed.” He laughed coldly, talking to himself, “‘To attempt the impossible’? Fine. You understand the YunmengJiang Sect’s motto. Better than I do. Better than all of us do.”
He sheathed Sandu. The sword returned to its scabbard with a clang. Jiang Cheng’s tone was indifferent, “Then let’s arrange for a duel.”
Three days later, the leader of the YunmengJiang Sect, Jiang Cheng, arranged for a duel with Wei WuXian.
They fought quite a fight in Yiling. Negotiations failed. Both resorted to violence.
Under Wei WuXian’s command, the fierce corpse Wen Ning struck Jiang Cheng once, breaking one of his arms. Jiang Cheng stabbed Wei WuXian once. Both sides suffered losses. Each spat out a mouthful of blood and left cursing the other. They had finally fallen out with each other.
After the fight, Jiang Cheng told the outside that Wei WuXian defected from the sect and was an enemy to the entire cultivation world. The YunmengJiang Sect had already cast him out. From then on, no ties remained between them—a clear line was drawn. Henceforth, no matter what he did, they’d have nothing to do with the YunmengJiang Sect!
Jiang Cheng chooses to exasperate what Wei Wuxian had told him, he chooses to stage a fight in order to display the fact that he is not in connection with him. It is a staged fight but he does go in for a dramatic blow that wasn't needed as Wei Wuxian says later, covered in a jest to downplay Jiang Cheng's violence. Jiang Cheng only secretly visits Wei Wuxian once and with no other's knowledge as he is still committed to staying in favor with the other sect's for his own safety within the cultivation world.
Contrast that to Lan Wangji's stance at Koi Tower.
Suddenly, somebody came from behind him. It was Lan WangJi, who had followed him without speaking a word. Wei WuXian’s reputation had always been terrible, so it wasn’t his first time in such a situation. In this life, his mindset was different from how he was in his past. He could already face these situations calmly. He should get away first. There might be a chance of a counterattack in the days to come. He wouldn’t push it even if no such chance came. If he stayed, all that would come out of it were more than hundreds of slashes from the swords. Saying that he was actually innocent was even more of a joke. Everyone believed with utmost certainty that he’d return to seek revenge sometime in the future. Having destroyed countless sects, nobody would listen to his explanation, especially when Jin GuangYao would be there fanning the flames. Lan WangJi, though, was different from him. He wouldn’t even have to explain, and people would explain for him, such as how HanGuang-Jun had been deceived by the YiLing Laozu.
Wei WuXian, “HanGuang-Jun, you don’t have to follow me!”
Lan WangJi looked straight in front of him, saying nothing in reply. The two left behind them a crowd of cultivators shouting to kill. Amid the chaos, Wei WuXian spoke again, “You really want to go with me? Think carefully. After you walk out this door, your reputation will be destroyed!”
The two had already dashed down the steps of Koi Tower.
All of a sudden, a coldness passed through his stomach. As he looked down, Jin Ling had already pulled the white blade—now red with blood—out of him.
He didn’t expect that Jin Ling really would come at him.
The only thought that passed in Wei WuXian’s mind was, He could have been like anyone, yet he just so happened to have taken after his uncle Jiang Cheng. They even like to stab the same places.
He couldn’t quite clearly remember what had happened next. He felt that he tried to attack. Everything around them seemed frenzied. Not only had it been noisy, their escape seemed to bump and jolt as well. He didn’t know how much time had passed, but when he hazily opened his eyes again, Lan WangJi flew on Bichen, while he was carried on Lan WangJi’s back. Blood had spilled onto half of his snow colored cheeks.
In truth, the wound at his stomach didn’t hurt too much. But it was still a hole in his body, after all. In the beginning, he had managed for a while, as though nothing happened. It was likely, though, that this body hadn’t received many injuries before. As the wound bled, he couldn’t help but feel light-headed, and this wasn’t something that he could control.
Wei WuXian called out, “… Lan Zhan.”
Lan WangJi’s breathing wasn’t as placid as usual, feeling somewhat rushed. It was probably from carrying Wei WuXian while fending off attacks and being on the run for too long.
The way he replied though, was still the usual single syllable, as steady as ever, “Mnn.”
After the “mnn”, he added, “I am here.”
Hearing those words, made something that Wei WuXian had never felt before sprout within his heart. It was like sorrow. His chest hurt, but also felt a bit warm.
He could still remember how, back in Jiangling, Lan WangJi came all the way to assist him, yet he didn’t appreciate that kindness at all. With all kinds of disputes between, the two of them often parted with disapproval.
But what he hadn’t expected was that while everyone feared him or flattered him, Lan WangJi scolded him right to his face; when everyone spurned him and loathed him, Lan WangJi stood by his side.
It is an exact replica of the situation Jiang Cheng had faced with Wei Wuxian. But Lan Wangi neither condemns or speaks for what Wei Wuxian should do. He only wordlessly protects him and stays by his side in support that he does believe Wei Wuxian. His reputation is not worth the continued condemnations against Wei Wuxian and he very publicly solidifies his standing with Wei Wuxian where Jiang Cheng said he stood against him with that duel. Lan Wangji several times even when they had been young tried to stand with Wei Wuxian knowing his intentions were meant well, and Jiang Cheng further alienated Wei Wuxian placing further blame on Wei Wuxian and calling him self-serving with a savior complex.
Years later, Lan Wangji is able to take actions finally for Wei Wuxian that makes him understand that Lan Wangji is fully willing to stay with him and is a safety net. Jiang Cheng has cemented himself as an enemy without the deception for Wei Wuxian's complacency.

I'd love to hear you rant in depth abt what fanons done to Bruno Bucci because this man has been done so dirty like, ppl ignore he is Goddamn weird & definitely willing to punch a teenager no holds barred
ok i rly rly apologize for how long this might get and/or how incoherent it might get.
fanon bruno... god. the majority of the content is mommy bruno and god, it sucks. and people also acting like? hes not morally grey. im gonna split this into paragraphs for each thing because i KNOW how heated i get abt mommy bruno so i dont want it to be a wall of text <3
the fucking mommy bruno people... as someone who has talked w someone who firmly believes in that and when asked had NO reasoning for what made him quote mommy unquote, i think thats how a lot of the mommy bruno truthers are. i know ive mentioned it before but i feel the only scenes that they really can point to as wow omg bruno mom moment are: boat scene, and how he "rescues his kids" (which 😒 we will get into prommy). so boat scene, where after like getting his ass handed to him, hes glad that the people around him that he's close to still have his back. and on the other point, lets go thru how each person joined Passione/Team Bucciarati. Fugo- dont have a ton of info, but was not by any means "adopted" by Bruno, in the anime specifically warns him hey i could snap and kill you and bruno is just like ok :). Narancia- bruno EXPLICITLY threatened him and was like hey dont join and narancia went against that. abbacchio- had a ton of trauma and joined (anime added a lot more into the backstory than the manga did, but again it really just touches on brunos savior complex that brunos own backstory did and how he tends to put others first often to a detriment for himself) mista- literally was just bruno getting him out of jail. none of these make him a woman or mother or even matronly figure. people really just kind of? act as if this guy caring about the people around him automatically equals mother (imo bc they cannot grasp the concept of a man rly caring about people around him or just how they make him and abbacchios relationship fit into the hetero boxes). like i think people that are out here being like woahhh mommy bruno forget he has done fucked up stuff (including fighting a kid (and tbh the entire giorno subway scene) and just how he is like not just some perfect little angel.
speaking of those scenes- he is in a mafia, he has tortured people but he is also a caring person. that can coexist. araki rly did well w part 5 writing characters that are more morally gray (and bruno is an EXCELLENT example of that). he doesnt have to fit into the boxes of good and bad because the setting and how part 5 is constructed doesn't let him neatly fit into either of those. hes a complex character and i think a lot of fanon really just takes that away because wow hes a nice guy sometimes and cant do ANYTHING wrong... like its idk to me at least its obvious that the character CAN both do morally questionable things and not be a villain.
also fucking sick and tired of how people act like they understand him when its literally just surface level understanding... anyways go watch il postino and perceive him

I think the biggest reason I found myself loving Vampirerry is because you guys have shown that trauma doesn’t always have to produce shitty people. I mean Vampirerry has his faults but he also has remorse, empathy, and unwavering adoration for those around him which you don’t see in other dark Harry fanfic personalities. He’s respectful to his significant other even when they were just courting, and despite him solely wanting to steal her blood he still made sure to treat her like the most special girl in the room. & same with vamp Niall he watched his entire family starve to death and still can light up even the darkest days with his adorable laughter and lightheartedness. Which is why when you read these characters you don’t just feel sympathy for them simply because of what they went through, you feel empathy because life just really shouldn’t have been that hard for characters as amazing as them. I feel with good fanfiction you shouldn’t have to be 20 chapters in to finally have a justification for why you like a character, you should just love them when you meet them and that is such a rare sight to see in the dark fic realm. Idk its just about time someone shows that though trauma is a part of a persons life, it doesn’t have to define who they are and how they treat others. Idk if this makes sense and I’m sorry if this rant was a bit long but I just thought you should know that this is my reason for loving this work so much. Also thank you to you and leyla for making Vampirerry the heart warmer we all know and love.

I totally agree with what you’re saying when it comes to the realm of dark fanfic!!! I feel like a lot of those fics profit off the “How fucked up can I make the main character in this story?” trope and then they create a villain with no solid reasoning behind what they do, which is like go for it do what you want, but I personally prefer villains who have some sort of drive behind who they’ve become. It just makes it more realistic because people’s environments are what mold them into who they are. As for the characters in ysijwa, I’m happy they come off as complex and dimensional, that’s what we intended 🥺 I’m a huge fan of the “morally grey hero” theme because I sincerely believe that no one is 100% good and no one is 100% bad, so when you have characters that represent both ends of the spectrum, it makes them more personable and real.
Harry in this fic definitely has his short-comings, like you said, and he has a dark past full of things he regrets doing, which is what makes him likable— it’s the fact that he made mistakes and is actively striving to do better. He did have a portion of his life where he went into that dangerous headspace of not caring for anyone but himself and hurting others with no capacity for guilt (it is a dark fic, after all AJDJSJSJWJ), but what makes him redeemable is that he crawled himself out of that pit and is constantly trying to do better for himself and for the people he loves. Niall too!! I feel like they’re the ones with the most troubling histories, and were both dealt really bad hands that they managed to flip for the better.
Harry’s more rough around the edges because that’s the defense mechanism he developed from the premises of how he died, and Niall is a bit softer because he carries less spite towards his death due to his own circumstances. Niall was going to die no matter what because of the gravity of his situation, so he isn’t as angry with what he became because it gave him a second chance at life that the rest of his family wasn’t fortunate enough to have, so that’s why his character is a more lighthearted and breezy. Harry, on the other hand, was brutally murdered out of no where with no solid justification, so he carries a lot of rage towards his identity because it would have been avoidable if he hadn’t been so blinded by fascination towards the person that ended up killing him. They each have their reasons for being the way they are, and the fact that they managed to come out the other end of their issues with a better outlook is what makes their characters so appealing.
You get that twisted appeal that comes with dark fics, but it’s validated and realistic!!

I just want to talk about one of my favorite Quodo scenes. You know, as I do. So S2 E18 Profit and Loss, for all that it’s focused on a one-episode love interest for Quark (and a romance with Natima so intense that it makes Quark very uncharacteristically be willing to risk his life and even give up the bar for the sake of pursuing it), it has some really amazing Quodo scenes. In particular, it has a really lengthy conversation between Quark and Odo that features some great things like (1) establishing important aspects of both of their characters and their relationship, (2) lots of intimate leaning over each other and casual touches, and (3) a flirtatious and shippy dynamic.
Let me walk through the whole scene because there’s a lot to analyze here.
The scene opens with Quark coming to talk to Odo about the urgent need to release Natima rather than handing her over to the Cardassian government who will execute her. Quark tries multiple tacks, all of which fail:
First, he tries to make the appeal that releasing the Cardassian dissidents would lead to a better, brighter Cardassia, which obviously Odo doesn’t buy. Quark doesn’t care about that.
Quark immediately pivots to spinning that change as one that would lead to him getting more profits -- more plausible, at least, but Odo is still skeptical. In response, knowing that Odo doesn’t find benefiting Quark financially to be a worthy cause, Quark impishly says, “Now Odo... don’t allow my greed to keep you from doing the right thing.” Here he’s making a small appeal to Odo’s moral system rather than Quark’s.
But that’s not the reason why Odo was skeptical. He’s skeptical because Quark isn’t being honest about his motivations.

“I know you better than you think, Quark.” - Moment #1 in this scene where the long history and enefriend relationship between Quark and Odo is highlighted.
Odo prompts Quark to bring up the third and more honest consideration: that Quark is in love with Natima. Odo asks Quark why he didn’t just say that from the start, which prompts Quark to go into a long rant about how Odo is incapable of understanding his feelings while Odo listens awkwardly: “What was I supposed to say? That I love her? That I would do anything for her? That without her my life would be meaningless. Sure, I could say those things, but what good would it do? How could I expect you to understand? You’ve never had those feelings. You don’t know what it means to really care about another person. You’ve never been in love. You’ve got all the emotions of a stone. (pause) No offense.”
None is taken, because that is the image that Odo has carefully crafted for himself, which doesn’t in actuality line up with who he is, but he’s happy for others to believe that is how he is like. So even though Quark realizes how harsh his words are and walks it back, Odo is not offended, but nor does he find it entirely convincing either. It’s one of this scene’s many ways of illustrating the conflicting moral codes between Quark and Odo: Quark may view doing things out of love as legitimate, but he knows that Odo can’t enter into that mindset.
(It's not text, but Quark's speech could also be read as Quark expressing his frustration that his own attempts to court Odo have ended in failure -- Quark angsting that he is barking up the wrong tree, so to speak.)
Quark then tries a fourth tack: Making an exchange instead of putting forward logical arguments and appeals. He begins to offer information on the various deals he’s involved in ("Listen to me, Odo. You do this for me, and I promise there'll be no more secrets between us") -- this momentarily catches Odo’s interest -- before Quark chickens out and instead offers information on Rom’s activities instead, which is, well, worthless, lol. Odo isn’t interested in your brother, Quark, he’s interested in you. Quark does have something of value to Odo but he’s not willing to offer it up because, well, he's just not THAT good of a person.
Seeing this fourth try has failed, Quark then makes a fifth appeal:

Quark’s fifth try involves directly leveraging Quark and Odo’s relationship and involves Quark asking Odo to do this as a personal favor to him. Here is moment #2 where Quark and Odo’s longstanding relationship is highlighted, with Quark turning what Odo said earlier back on him:

(Technically, Odo didn’t say he knew Quark better than anyone else; he said he knew Quark better than Quark thought. But Quark is speaking the truth in any case.) Quark actually just spells out their relationship a bit anviliciously: “Sure, sometimes we’re on opposite sides, but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t close. I never told you this, Odo, but I consider you as dear to me as my brother.” Again, Odo is unimpressed given that Quark literally just tried to sell out his brother. One can’t help but feel like Quark’s fifth appeal failed for the same reason his fourth one failed: Like with the fourth appeal, Quark began to show some vulnerability here which actually interested Odo, but chickened out at the end. He did have something valuable to bargain with (his relationship with Odo) but wasn’t willing to pay the price it would require (being fully open and vulnerable with Odo about the value of that relationship) -- instead, he deflects at the last moment with something joking and ironic.
Finally, Quark makes his sixth and last appeal. “Odo, look at me. Look at me. I’m on my knees. I’m begging you. I don’t care why you do it. Pick any reason you want. But please, let Natima and the others go.”

On his knees, he makes the Ferengi gesture of supplication. With this attempt, Quark does two things: One, he sacrifices his pride for the first time by openly begging -- in his other appeals, he protected his pride by couching it in logical appeal, anger/disapproval at Odo, irony, or jokes. But here, for the first time, he displays humility, desperation, vulnerability, etc. Second, he lets Odo pick the reason, which allows Odo to also intervene without having to lose his own pride.
The reason Odo picks in the end is (what else) justice.

"Justice," Quark says. "That was going to be my next suggestion."
And then (after being on his knees begging, etc.) Quark slowly gets to his feet, and it’s framed like this:

THIS. IS SO. SUGGESTIVE.
I’m... I'm dying. Definitely a "getting shit past the censors" moment.
Anyway, moving swiftly along, now that Quark has gotten what he wants, it's back to the old light-hearted and flirty dynamic they always have. Now assured Odo definitely isn't doing this as a personal favor to Quark, Quark gleefully declares himself debt-free to Odo. He hugs him and Odo pretends to dislike it.

The scene ends with Odo asking how Quark plans to sneak the dissidents past the Cardassian warship hovering outside DS9. By the way he asks the question and is able to guess just by Quark's mischievous smile, Odo already knows the answer, bringing the episode back full circle from its opening where Odo was investigating Quark for having an illegal cloaking device.

Yeah, bickering, casual touching, their cat-and-mouse relationship, flirtatious dialogue, even Odo grudgingly letting Quark get away with crimes because they're a reluctant team with aligned interests now -- it's all here.
Anyway, I love this scene because it's an extended look at how Quark's moral system and Odo's don't really line up with each other (Quark valuing things like love and profit and not valuing abstract things like justice or order, and vice versa for Odo) to the point where it's actively hard for Quark to convince Odo to do something he's inclined/sympathetic to doing anyway. At the same time, they also have some shared interests (in Quark's dealings, in their relationship with each other) while being engaged in a complex dance where neither of them can quite acknowledge it. For example, Odo says he will release the prisoners solely out of his own sense of justice, but if so, why did it take Quark begging him to move him to act? Before Quark came to his office, he was reading a detective novel, suggesting that Quark's appeal is at least one part of Odo's decision to act, despite what they both say. But it serves Quark's purposes to let this slide ("So, you're not really doing this for me?" "That's right." "Then I don't owe you a thing. Thank you!") and let Odo keep his pride, so he does.
Anyway, I just love how much Quodo there is in an episode that's entirely dedicated to Quark's love for a different woman entirely. That's how powerful the relationship between these two is.

TBH I just really don't like Arya. She fits the "I'm not like other girls" Trope way too well and she even says it a few times herself, and dragging human women down because they don't fight is smth I am very mad about and could spend hours debating tbh. Maybe I'm a bit too bitter lmao
TRIGGER WARNING FOR DISCUSSION OF SEXUAL ASSAULT, RAPE, AND TORTURE
And that’s totally fair! There are several aspects of her character that are totally problematic and trope-y.
I never want to trivialize the objectively sexist and problematic things she’s done throughout the series just because I love her character, so I tend to explain it using this format: “x, y, z explains her behavior, but it doesn’t justify it.” And there’s two points I’d like to make, both which are pretty obvious lol.
The Classic: 1. Paolini was super young when he created the series, so a lot of the initial (and even later!) characterization is juvenile and immature. And that makes sense! Because the boi was barely out of fetus-hood! The “I’m not like other girls” trope is pretty cringy, but I tend to forgive it because of the context in which it was written. I’m irked by a lot of the same things about Arya as you, but I just put it in the mental category of “thats fucked up, and I recognize that, but it doesn’t change the fact that I enjoy her as a character.” I could rant for a bit on Literary Purity Culture but I don’t really want to, so I’ll just say that there’s nothing in this world that is 100% unproblematic, and it’s really important to reconcile that enjoying content that has its problems is totally ok! Enjoying such media is not a reflection on your moral standing or your character.
2. The time frame in which we see these issues in Arya’s character:
Ok, for the hundreds of times I’ve read this series, I’ll admit I still have no clue what the full time frame is for all four books. I’d guestimate, that, from Eragon to Inheritance it’s at shortest one year, and at longest maybe 3-5?
I point this out because ✨trauma.✨ we know that at the very beginning (maybe before the events of Eragon??) of the series Arya was captured and subjected to some really horrifying tortures, the least of which was at least suggested to be sexual assault and rape.
So working within that time-frame, we can reasonably state that for most of the series she’s experiencing the acute/immediate after-effects of that torture (PTSD and major trauma), even if it’s never really brought up in canon.
I think this is really important to take into account! Because a lot of the more shitty things she does, and the darker sides of her character, can be explained by her lingering trauma symptoms.
How she treats human women: I think her superiority complex / looking down on human women can be explained by almost, like, jealousy? And internalized conflict? Because the human women are mostly content in their passive/obedient gender roles, which is in direct contradiction to her personal value system... but at the same time she’s a little jealous because they will never directly see the horrors of war, something she’s already experienced entirely too much of. She takes offense as a woman of them accepting their station in life, but then she’s also aware that a lot of her problems and trauma wouldn’t have occurred if she just... gave in to that? Idk. Stream of consciousness.
How she treats human men: I think this explanation of her behavior is a lot more straightforward. She was captured by human men, who also, most likely participated in her torture, so I think it makes sense that she all around just has bad associations with men. One of the things I’ve noticed in re-reads is that several times her more explosive outbursts are triggered by a man touching her (shoving Elain’s son when he grabs her arm, asking how his mom’s labor is going, for example).
SO ANYWAYS— sorry for such a long rant. I’m not in any way trying to convince you to change your opinion and accept mine, and I totally understand why Arya isn’t your favorite. More than anything I guess I just relate to her, and even though some of her behavior isn’t justifiable, it at the very least can be explained in the context of the narrative.
Now I’m gonna yeet this over to @weirdponytail because I feel strange talking about Arya’s trauma and PTSD when they’re the resident expert on it. :)

willa's death was lazy storytelling.
a pre-2x08 rant.
willa's death was well foreshadowed, well executed, and her sacrifice for raelle will have a lasting impact on the show for the rest of the season, if not longer. however, the wasted potential of everything has me wilding.
now, i know there are a lot of factors that go into writing a television show, especially during a pandemic. i am not blaming the writers one bit for this, and honestly a lot of the groundwork they laid for this plot is compelling. im sure the team are doing the best with what they could in a ten episode season in the middle of covid, but the plot lines in s1 do not match up with willa's character in s2.
raelle's dead mother was a huge driving force for raelle's character the entirety of the first season. it factored into the conflict between raelle and abigail, and was part of the reason behind raelle's disillusions with the army. i think its important to state that willa being alive and the reason the spree wanted raelle being the s1 cliffhanger was because it was such a huge shift of understanding in the audience. here's this big reveal that a lot of what raelle knew and motivated her was a lie, and that what brought scylla and raelle together was more personal than just a mark. everyone could see the emotional reckoning this would bring.
but we haven't got that.
willa isn't going to face any consequences for her actions. just think, willa died before her daughter knew she was alive this entire time. she didnt have to explain to raelle why she left to join the spree instead of loving and caring for her. willa will never have to confront edwin about abandoning him with a daughter he struggled to support. willa never even got to interact with petra or adler, two people she surely loathed and resented. willa just popped off to become a terrorist for a couple years and didn't have to wear a uniform i guess.
(theres also something to be said in making raelle as miserable as possible instead of what could have been gripping interactions between torn apart mother and daughter but alas)
we all joke about willa and the sautéed mushrooms because a) it is hilarious and b) that was the extent of willa's characterization for half the season. i know this is most likely due to time restraints, but the way the show left off with s1 it made it seem like willa would be a huge part of the story going forward. here's someone who abandoned her family for a cause, who sent one of her spies to infiltrate and recruit her daughter away from the army and to the spree. that was the set up for willa. and the willa we got lost all of her followers except one from changing her operation towards the camarilla (fair enough), but also never resented scylla for falling in love with raelle and failing in her mission. and scylla never resented willa for faking her death and letting raelle suffer without her. okay????? these two things do not match up in my mind. the person who fakes their death and becomes a terrorist while conniving to bring her daughter to her is not the person that tells scylla in the back of a van that she was right to not bring raelle to her.
it would be one thing if willa had realized in the years away she was wrong and she loved raelle more than anything, but all willa did was cook mushrooms and give scylla wine. and willa was one of the leaders within the spree. that shows intent for the cause. and, i must stress, she sent someone to kidnap her daughter for her. you dont suddenly become cool with your daughter still being with the army if you went to all of that trouble, and i wouldn't think you would adopt the girl who seduced your daughter so hard she uno reversed herself. im still not over how weird it was that scylla and willa got along so well. where was the tension.
all of this to say, the willa/raelle arc was so promising. there was so much to dig into, betrayals and complex morals and fractured trust and the potential for fun character dynamics and interactions. there could've been some meaty stuff in there that, beyond anything else, would've been interesting because of their complexity and the ability to understand both sides while not agreeing with one in particular. instead, willa died in a way that looks like the writers wrote themselves into a box and needed a way for raelle to get out alive. and now raelle, who has mourned her mother for the entire series, will mourn her mother again. how can we find a way for raelle to mourn her mother a third time. can we get zombies in s3.

So I'm a die-hard wonder woman fan, and I'll be honest, I'm super not into all these internet edge lords hating on WW84.
It came out yesterday my dudes, you can not feasibly have a fully fleshed out opinion on it yet.
Give it a few more days, talk to a few people about what they thought about it, I guarantee that you will view it much more positively.
That is, of course, if the conversation had isn't actively trying to tear it down.
This is made mostly in response to all the reviews that didn't understand either or both of the film's villains and about the magical McGuffin involved.
Actual spoilers below (it's where I start really complaining)
Now what I said above also applies to me, but I did spend several hours analyzing the movie with friends and family so there is that.
I'm going to be talking about things I've seen and how I think those opinions are one dimensional
1) Barbara did need to be in the movie and/or her storyline dragged
I think this is mostly clouded by the iffy cgi when Barbra becomes Cheetah, because her storyline actively parallels Diana's. Max Lord is not the antagonist to Diana but to Wonder Woman, Barbra is Diana's “antagonist”. She gives up her kindness to gain power and Diana gives up her power, her ability to help other, to gain Steve. Diana relinquishes her wish but we never have any confirmation Barbra does the same despite knowing it will only hurt her. One is willing to see the truth of their world, while the other let their desires consume them.
2) Max Lord doesn't have any clear motivations
Most of the complaints I’ve seen of this don’t understand how he could let things get so bad, as if people don’t dig their heels in and refuse to change plans when things go wrong every day. He is already shown to fall into that with his cooperation, he falls into sunk cost fallacy so easily, his greed blinds him to the cost of his actions, he just needs a little more power and then his son will be proud of him, he will be respected, just a little more, and then things go wrong so he needs just a little more power to fix them and the cycle repeats.
3) The villains' didn’t do anything that bad, they shouldn't of been vilified
They didn’t and they weren’t. I have seen posts addressing this but I’ll do so too, to be inclusive. The villains’ were just regular people blinded by the injustices of the world till they too became part of the problem
Max Lord wanted to be respected and successful so he “cheating” others like he felt life had cheated him.
Barbra was trampled on by people her whole life, so when she got power she trampled on others too. Though hers is harder to talk about because the dream stone stole her warmth and empathy, she no longer cared for other people the way she once used to.
Then they were “forgiven”, able to grow past their mistakes to try and be better.
4) Steve was forced into the movie and he didn’t add anything
This is where my personal opinions really start to show up because I personally don’t think that that was really Steve. I think he was Diana’s memory of Steve, the Steve she wished for.
But before I get into that, if you pay attention to Steve's timeline then he’s just come off major character development and is now more idealistic, he trusts in Diana's judgement and his already strong moral code, he doesn't even consider that Diana could lose because he’s already seen her fight a literal god of war. He has already made sacrifices for the good of mankind, he can and will do so again.
The next bit is connected to my “Steve is a memory come to life” theory so I’ll include it here.
Diana only knew Steve for like a week why is he the one thing she wished for
How could Steve fly a 1980′s jet
Diana left Themyscira for mankind, she attached to Steve so hard because he is one of if not her first love. He was the catalyst for her leaving her home, possibly forever, he was her connection to mankind, so she fixated on him. She is also much older than a human and has a much longer lifespan, theoretically, it could mean she views time as much less important, she can grieve over her dead boyfriend for decades because she will be alive for millennia's.
We do not hear the specifics of Diana’s wish. We do not know the wording used, thus we could hand wave away a lot of the weird bits about Steve. Diana first meets Steve when his plane crashes and she last sees him when he detonates the aircraft full of poison gas. He introduces himself as a pilot, but the lasso of truth compels his to divulge that he is a spy, the rest of the movie focuses more on his ability to spy than his ability to pilot, and with seventy years of nostalgia, Diana , who knew Steve for a week, likely only came to know Steve truly through the rose-tinted stories of his old friends and family. Thus, when he is returned to her, he is her perfect, idealized Steve. The one who she admired for his ability to fly.
Of course, I’m sure there is just as much, if not more evidence to indicate something else entirely, but it’s only been a single day since I saw the movie.
5) It is campy, cartoonish, and less impactful than the first movie
Being campy and cartoonish does not make it less valuable. What does cartoonish mean in this context? Does it mean childish? Does it mean silly or simplistic? Does it mean better actualized through animated film? Because this is a comic book movie. A Wonder Woman comic book movie to boot. It will be hopeful and inspiring, about an incredibly powerful, mythical woman who helps humans by inspiring them to be better. Though a crude comparison, she can be likened to a “Girl Superman” though the tone of the two heroes is drastically different.
I genuinely don’t know why people are criticizing the themes and message this movie is trying to make. People keep throwing around words like heavy and deep about the first movie because it talks about mankind's willingness to hurt others to achieve their own petty goals, as if this movie isn’t exploring how mankind will hurt themselves in their own misguided desire for what they don’t have, how their greedy desires will only hurt themselves and others.
Is it because this one doesn't have a war in it?
I’m getting petty now so I’ll only cover one more thing.
6) A lot of the plot is just handwaved away and we’re just supposed to believe things
This is particularly used regarded the dream stone, it wasn’t explicitly explained and the god that made it is only vaguely mentioned. This applies to all the magic and mythical elements of the movie. Magic and gods are often portrayed as based in belief. Wonder Woman has unwavering belief, belief in people, gods, truth, justice, forgiveness, honor. In return people believe in her. This belief is the main force behind the magic involved in the movie.
We the audience believe in this universe created -> this universe has gods in it capable of incredible feats of magic -> these gods do not always approve of or care for humans -> these gods do not necessarily force humans to participate in what they hold domain over -> A god of lies and deceit made a wish granting stone -> the stone shows the lies of human greed -> the lasso of truth is the embodiment of truth -> one is unable to lie in its hold -> one can “see the truth” in its hold -> the particle satellite thing was wished into working perfectly -> Now the particles “touch” all of mankind (though they can only understand Max Lord through their screens) -> The lasso of truth becomes part of the broadcast thus “holding” all of mankind -> all of mankind can mow see the truth (though the screens only show the magical golden light because they are machines without thoughts)
And though it does not matter if this fits into the DCEU timeline, by all of the other movies, 30 to 35 years have passed, it was a week of unexplained, but certainly not known to be magical, chaos when all of the rest of the justice league was either a child or simply not born yet.
I’m sorry for the crazy rant, but I feel like the internet is full of people who seek out reactions so I made this for people to read when they feel like WW84 is being clogged with negativity. You don’t need to give them the reaction, I already have.
(P.S. The Trump thing isn’t real, Max Lord is the 80′s archetype of the cooperate raider, I didn’t even make that possible connection till the bigots online with their ever present victim-complex started acting all offended)

I am never one to shame people for their preferences but I just find it so incredibly boring that "sexy dominant demon" made its way into this fandom. I don't know, I just feel like reducing Crowley to the very thing that he tries so hard to embody is not it. His struggle with vulnerability and wanting to be taken care of but cannot let people in is a big part of his character, and I love when fanfics or art delves into that. This is just my take, though.
I agree. I try not to yuck other people's yums, mostly because fandom and headcanons are just for fun and, at the end of the day, nothing will change what's already there in the text. Headcanons are there for fun, and honestly, it really is fun to do. That's why we're all here, after all! Who am I to tell someone what to think?
But while I won’t demand anyone think the way I do (i mean, who does that?), that doesn't really stop me from personally getting bored and even annoyed when a fic makes Crowley only ever the mean-dark-sexy-evil demon he dresses himself up to be. Or when he's way too extremely-ultra-soft-and-sensitive and can't do anything without Aziraphale and needs his love in order to function. I, myself, don’t see the fun in these, for more reasons other than “That’s not how he would act, wtf?” 
This, uh, ended up getting really wordy because I have no self control and I never had buddies to rant about this meta to, so this is my outlet. The rest of it is under a cut. I’m apologizing in advance. You definitely weren’t expecting this much of a response, I reckon. 
TL;DR - I don’t like reductive headcanons for Crowley because they undermine the entire point for his character existing in the first place and it therefore makes him boring.
Before I get into it, I can't bring up the purpose of Crowley as a character without also including Aziraphale. Crowley, as he stands right now, would arguably be equally as pointless without Aziraphale there with him. And the same goes vice-versa. They complete each other - they were originally one character that got split into two, after all.
The story of Good Omens is commentating on the nature of human morality. Morality, as we know, can be gray, and messy, and confusing. Sometimes it really depends on how you look at it. What one person will see as evil, another will see as righteous. That’s just how humans are. And the entire concept of Morality cannot exist without being prefaced with the binary that is Good and Evil. That’s where Aziraphale and Crowley come in. They’re basically a giant metaphor for all that.
At the end of the day, they’re just a fun, interesting way to visualize the nature of human morality. They’re here to help build one of the main themes in the story. Their existence as an angel and a demon symbolize the Good and Evil binary, but it is their choices and actions that alienate them from the other angels and demons and thus make them more complex as characters, that truly completes the entire metaphor for morality.
This is probably why they’re not humans. The message with them wouldn’t be as unique if they were. Making them an angel and demon reinforces the symbolism and removes the gray bias that making them human would cause. 
That’s why they’re interesting enough to exist in this story as main characters despite doing virtually almost nothing to really impact the chain of events.
My point is, Aziraphale and Crowley cannot represent morality in this special way if they’re characterized to be just like any other demon or angel.  
If they’re characterized that way, then they aren’t serving the purpose they were created for. And if they can’t do that, then what’s the point of having them? It’s not like they have many actions that directly impact a major aspect of the storyline - and the ones they do have could probably be worked around. At that point, they’re just here for the aesthetic. That doesn’t make them interesting enough to be main characters.
That’s why I tend to not like those types of headcanons that simply reduce both Aziraphale and Crowley into exactly what they’re expected to be. Crowley can’t be as interesting as he is if he can’t be the symbol he was created to be. He can’t be that symbol that if he isn’t An Angel who did not so much Fall as Saunter Vaguely Downwards. He is interesting BECAUSE you expect him to be a suave, sexy, silver-tongued handsome devil that is truly evil - but in reality, he’s actually a really nice person, has a soft spot for humanity, and is kinda dorky at times. 
Headcanons that make him a stereotypical mean sexy demon, or the ones that overdo his softness and vulnerability disturb the balance that he’s got going on. He’s practically someone else at that point. Crowley in canon part of a really interesting set up and dynamic - to change that dynamic by changing his personality into something that ultimately works against the key components that make it work in the first place simply makes him more boring of a character. That’s why I have a really tough time getting into those particular fanon interpretations of him over the ones that are closer to canon.

Why Ruskin Bond will always remain our favorite
From our early school days to the age of stepping into our respective career paths - we all grow up undergoing many changes. But only the writings of Ruskin Bond remain our constant companion. The close relationship between Ruskin Bond and us emerged slowly. The first introduction happened through textbooks, mostly after which people regularly saw a curious kid sitting at the corner of a bookstore with amazement in his eyes. And this amazement continued to appear on our faces every time we opened a book by Ruskin Bond. Unknowingly, we formed a strong bond with our favorite, Ruskin Bond.

It's pretty impossible not to smell the hills, our childhood, winter breezes, the old and rusty cottages in his words. Ruskin Bond's stories feel like a legit time machine that never fails to transport us into a newer world or the world of the past. His stories made us enjoy natural affection, subtleties, and the lucid pleasures of life without delving into the materialistic way of living. So, let's try to get lost in the world of Bond and relive our sweetest memories again to remind ourselves why he will always be our most favourite.
Nature as its best
"Never mind. Men come and go. The mountains remain." - "Our trees still grow in Dehra."
Due to his intimate understanding of nature, Ruskin Bond successfully presents how nature could actively become a significant part of a person's well-being. We can't help feeling the solitude and the peaceful purity of being amidst the forlorn mountains, the Magpies, the beautiful forest birds, and the freshness of trees while reading his stories. Nature in his reports does not only provide background, but it becomes a character itself. He allows the free-flowing river, the little birds, the wildflowers, the sky, and every aspect of nature to convey their own messages to the readers.
That's why we perceive nature as a catalyst for healing our minds and making us transcend in the spiritual world. So, in most of his stories, he tries to convey the message of preserving nature. For example, in "The Coral Tree," Ruskin Bond has painted an essential aspect of teaching children the importance of planting and nurturing trees, thus, making a lasting partnership with man and nature.
Many great critics of our generation have declared the significant presence of the pantheistic nature approach in Bond's writings. He profoundly portrays both the nurturing and the destructive sides of Nature in his stories like "The Blue Umbrella," "Time Stops at Shamli," "The Angry River," "Rain in the Mountains," "Roads to Mussoorie," "The Room on the Roof" and many others. It's evidently clear that nature is the Muse of Ruskin Bond, and he will continue to strengthen the friendship between us and nature.
Bond's Art of Characterization
One of the most captivating qualities of Bond's stories that make them so relatable is his art of characterization. He amazingly creates a fellowship between the reader and the characters by presenting various characters and showing every character's development through the thick and thin of life. The most amazing part is that his feelings are rooted in reality and possess a breadth of genuineness without pretensions.
Ruskin Bond is the master of creating various characters who fall into every social and economic background of the vast spectrum of our society. He beautifully paints the difference between the characters belonging to both the backward and underprivileged class and the flourishing upper-class. But most surprisingly, each character's life becomes significantly inspiring to the readers because of their physical and mental struggles, their realization and acceptance, and their close connection with their conscience. Our eyes suddenly get wet whenever we go through the brief encounter of the two potential lovers in "The Eyes are not Here." Similarly, we feel the same adrenaline rush while witnessing Binya's adventurous journey down the stream to save her most precious possession in "The Blue Umbrella."
Ruskin Bond's excellent insight into human psychology makes the readers understand exactly what the character is going through. That's what makes it way easier to discover the characters' reasons, hesitations, dilemmas, joy, anxiety, happiness, and all sorts of emotions. We somehow get attached to the characters without consciously knowing it and start to fascinate them most realistically.
Accurate Representation of the Indian Society
Bond's literary works serve a great purpose of expressing the social, economic, and political issues concerning the public and the country at large. He conveys the different opinions of the differently brought up characters in society in the most effective way. The state of India when it was under British rule, the bloodshed during partition, the ruins made by corruption, the conservative approach of the society, the superstitions, and the prevailing problems of dowry and child marriage - all have become an integral part of his writings. That's why his stories are considered proofs that aptly documented the then Indian society comprehensively.
Ruskin Bond's excellence also prevails in enriching the native language, bringing forth ethos and culture, and portraying the existing complexity of the socio-political scenario. At the grass-root level, his stories present a great insight into the ongoing social stigma without being a complete rant about problems only. His characters depict juxtaposition by making readers experience the constant tension that goes on within themselves between their rural and old values and the new urban moral code that they are exposed to.
Although Ruskin Bond Books is majorly known as one of the best writers of children's books, his adult and adolescent novels deal with the aspects we all go through in adulthood. For example, his "The Room on the Roof" brings up issues faced by the protagonist Rusty that had never been the table talk back in the 1950s. The life of Rusty resonates with us because we all have witnessed the problems like identity formation, wanting financial independence, emerging sexuality at some point in our lives. On the other hand, "The Room on the Roof" and its sequel, "The Young Vagrants," also successfully bring out the pain and loneliness of the orphan protagonist while depicting the prevailing social concerns such as racial and cultural differences, narrow-mindedness, and the social pretensions.
A Master of Stealing Children's Hearts
Risking Bond's fantastic insight into child psychology has contributed to making him our most favorite writer. The most incredible element found in his children's books is that he shows immense respect to a child's emotions, a thing which is not openly discussed or even given much value to. He captures the innocence of children in the best possible way while providing the utmost importance to the adventures, the hidden complexity, tragedies, and determination of the little minds. The self-seeking attitude of children is beautifully painted in the subtle yet strong words of Bond. "The Blue Umbrella" and "The Angry River" are perhaps the most outstanding examples for showing the strength and abilities children inherit along with the intricacies of life- all presented with a mesmerizing touch of simplicity. Through these stories, Ruskin Bond successfully raises a very pertinent question on the conviction of getting attached to trivial materialistic things of life, which exposes the futility of the entire concept.
Ruskin Bond is a master of depicting the innocence and simple pleasures of children, which contrasts with the cunning, shrewd, and envious nature of the adults in his children's books. It inspires the readers worldwide to adhere to the old pleasure-seeking and joyful spirit we have left in the past. The children's stories highlight the lessons of sympathy, kindness, and brotherhood among the readers of every age. 
That's why Bond's significant contribution lies in the fact that Bond's children's stories do not only evoke happiness in kids, but adults also perceive the same amount of gleeful experience while reading them.
Conclusion -
Ruskin Bond's simple style of writing delves deep into our conscience. It is a potent weapon of his that beautifully depicts both the complexities and the ease of life. Bond never wants to "make readers toil and sweat" because he never believed in the concept of putting complex and unconventional words to sound more serious. In "It's a Wonderful Life," he shared why he always chooses to write simply. He also shared his views on social media regarding his writing style by saying, "I have always tried to achieve proses that are simple and conversational. Those who think this is easy should try it for themselves." It is always astonishing to see how the subject matters of Bond's writings are given such high importance without presenting them in a twisted form by using complex words. That's why his stories can be read repeatedly regardless of the reader's age, as the Ruskin Bond Stories have something interesting to offer you each time you turn the pages.

Love Interests of the MCU
Bout to write some criticism of the MCU, if you don’t like, don’t read? Or do, I’m a poster not a cop. Click to read more, if you’re interested. Also, spoilers.
A problem in the MCU, to be honest. We’ll get into this here and you’ll see what I mean.
Jane Foster, MCU: An airhead, breathy absent-minded professor astrophysicist. Ok, cool, a STEAM lady.... who is constantly a damsel in distress in both movies and really adds nothing to Thor’s mythos or character. In fact, Erik Selvig is a more important character being set up in Thor to be a pawn of Loki’s for Avengers. Darcy Lewis is a more interesting character AND SHE’S SIDE CHARACTER AS WELL. (For those following MCU: SHE IS IN WANDAVISION for crying out loud)
And both Selvig and Darcy have less screen time than Jane. I don’t blame the actress, because I think Natalie Portman is very talented. But that role can only give you so much to work with when your entire personality is ‘I’m an astrophysicist and absent-minded professor trope.’ That’s it? That’s all Jane Foster is? ‘Cause that’s all I ever got from her.
Seriously you’re going to waste Natalie Portman on such a shallow role?

Comics Jane Foster: A well-trained EMT (Or Nurse, but still) who immediately runs toward danger to help people, is a damsel out of distress trope, doesn’t take crap from men, is a fan of cricket, regularly also fought with Thor’s enemies (as in comics Thor was not originally god-Thor but Donald Blake, who was worthy enough to use Thor’s hammer). Was not afraid to sass or stand up to heroes (or villains!) who harassed her after she found out Thor’s identity. Hmmm...

Clea, Comics: Princess of the Dark Dimension and Niece of Dormammu and ALSO DR. STRANGE’S IN-COMICS WIFE. She’s so well known as his love interest that at first I thought that’s what they were going to go for in his movie, esp with Rachel McAdams as the Third Billed ACTOR. But yeah, Clea, traditional love interest, super magically potent, likes earth, hates her evil uncle, just wants to learn more magic and live with Strange.
BUT NO HOW COULD WE POSSIBLY HAVE A FEMALE CHARACTER WITH ACTUAL POWERS. IT TAKES US UNTIL FUCKING AGE OF ULTRON TO GET WANDA, THOR 3 TO GET VALKYRIE AND YEARS (FUCKING YEARS) TO GET CAPTAIN MARVEL
Not that the others did not take years, but Carol only showed up RIGHT around the time Christianized Wonder Woman showed up in Snyderverse...
Clea’s comics personality isn’t that different from any of these other characters, but honestly, the MCU could’ve done a lot with her and used a character far more well connected to Strange in his own fucking movie.
Nakia: Again, an ex-girlfriend who used to work for T’Challa but couldn’t due to [insert morality speech here] and now, suddenly, they are back together! Because T’Challa is doing things! Wonder what comics Nakia is like...
OH YIKES OK MOVIE IMPROVED HER, THEY IMPROVED HER SO MUCH. (Comics Nakia: 16 year old obsessive/possessive supervillain and yeeeeaaah that’s just....No. Big ol’ NOPE). Still I forget she exists. Tbh I’d forget Okoye exists either if she wasn’t HAVING MORE SCREEN TIME THAN THE LOVE INTEREST.
I’m starting to notice a trend here...
VS
Monica Lynne, Comics: A more major love interest for Black Panther and more tied to his mythos. Arguably his most used Love Interest that isn’t Storm who is legally not allowed to be in the MCU anyway so she is unavailable for BP, which is a fucking shame. Personality wise, not much different, but Lynne isn’t as tied to Wakanda as any of the others.
Honestly I don’t know all that much about Black Panther so if anyone else does and wants to weigh in on a better love interest choice (THAT IS NOT STORM), please tag me.
Further, though, Monica could have given a deeper view into the complex experience of being a successful black woman in America to contrast with Erik’s storyline and have T’Challa hear more than just one singular experience.
But that’s just a hot take on my part.
Pepper Potts:
There’s no VS here because Virginia “Pepper” Potts is arguably the absolute closest MCU came to matching up with her comics counterpart. Fiery, intelligent, doesn’t take Tony’s shit and calls him on it, doesn’t take anyone’s shit toward her. She’s a bit more tame in the MCU and wildly OOC in Iron Man 3 so I don’t count that movie as canon, but honest to god, there’s nothing bad to say here about her character adaptation. A good job was done.
Hope Van Dyne: Again, a very good adaptation; most likely taking different characters together so because her comics counterparts are two separate entities, Hope has to be judged solely on her movie version. Her and Scott have good chemistry, she’s a good character in her own right. Only suffers from the trope of ‘Defrosting Ice Queen’ which you can tell because her hair and makeup get less severe as she ‘defrosts’
Better in the first movie than the second, where even though HER NAME WAS IN THE TITLE AS ‘THE WASP’ she was barely in it and sidelined by all the villains and side characters. For those interested, theories believe she is pulled from Nadia Pym (616 verse) and Hope Pym (982 verse)
Sif: Thor’s other in-comics and in-myth love interest/sometimes wife, absolutely side-lined, never given more than a few lines in any movie and despite having a supposedly epic backstory, we never see it. No one questions what the FUCK happened to Sif in Thor 3 because she has mysteriously vanished with Thor giving 0 fucks about where his remaining childhood friend went since she is the only one NOT KILLED OFF UNCEREMONIOUSLY (A different rant for a different problem)
So what’s there to say but why even include her as part of a love triangle if her absence is so unnotable that no one cares what happens to her
Gamora: Again, I’m not as familiar with her character, but like Pepper she seems to be a good adaptation, if made less of an anti-hero/villain in the MCU and given a bit of a softer side. Her romance with Star-Lord/Peter Quill is weak, however. Might be because of the actors but I don’t really see it? She has more emotional moments with her sister than ANYONE ELSE (Up until Infinity War with Quill and Thanos meeting)
The main problem we are running into, however, is look at this list. Look at how many female characters who are the love interest are demoted to be SOLELY THAT ROLE.
Please discern the difference for me, IN PERSONALITY between Christine Palmer and Jane Foster. Because aside from their professions, I don’t see any, do you? The fact that a good chunk of female characters in the MCU are the Love Interest and solely the love interest is....bad
It’s bad. It’s poor writing and it has consistently been done to more female characters than male. I just don’t see why the writers can’t do this basic thing.
1. Create/Adapt Character A as a full, three dimensional character
2. Create/Adapt Character B as a full, three dimensional character
3. Put A and B together romantically if they click
DONE. SIMPLE. EASY.
Also
4. Do not erase character personalities but remember what made them a good romantic pairing in the first place.

Oh my gosh hi Wisp I would love to rant about something how’d you know?!
I would love to rant about Roman, like the stupid kinnie I am, specifically him in FWSA and also add in a bit of Virgil because I love them and they make me happy and after the day I have had I need happiness!!!!
Ok so I absolutely adore Roman (not that anyone can tell) and I really relate to him and project onto him and identify with him etc. And I was kind of vibing with him at the end of POF. Like he was hurting (a lot) and I was dealing with really shit mental health at the time (still am but it’s getting better? I think? anyway) and so having Roman be at this really low point when I was feeling a very similar way was weirdly nice. Also writing Roman angst was tons of fun, because I was basically just projecting like there was no tomorrow and it was very very cathartic!
But I never realised how much I needed to see Roman happy after that until FWSA came out, and let me tell you that episode was EVERYTHING!!!! And Roman was SO HAPPY!!! I legit cried happy tears because he was so happy. As someone who is going through what feels like a constant tough time (life am i right?) and who relates a lot with Roman, seeing him at this super low point and then seeing him later, super happy and pretty confident again, touched me in a way I never expected. Because it showed that you can feel that way and it gets better. And I know we haven’t seen the journey Roman has gone through to get there or whether he is hiding bigger feelings or how long his happiness will last, but just seeing him being happy with Virgil was one of the best things ever!!!!!
Speaking of Virgil, he was amazing in this episode!!! I love how he didn’t tell Roman he loved him, but showed it. This is absolutely no hate to Patton, because I love Patton and I think he is an incredibly complex and interesting character, probably the most interesting (aside from Roman in my opinion), and I understand he has a lot of pressure and issues that he needs to work through and has worked through, and his arc so far has been really really good. Actually let’s touch on Patton briefly because his character is really interesting.
Patton has basically had to unlearn every single thing he has believed about morality, all the while everyone is pressuring him to provide the ‘right’ answer to a question with no ‘right’ answer. That is a lot going on already. The thing about Patton is that he tends to have the right intentions but the wrong actions, and that can hurt the ones he loves, but he never intends to hurt them. He does what he believes is right, and some of the times it is and is actually really helpful, and other time it is completely misguided and harmful. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t trying. Patton understands when he has hurt someone and he always tries to make it better and leanr from his mistakes and in some cases that means unlearning the black and white mentality he has had for basically his entire existence. That, and he was being pressured to find the answer, and he was bound to snap. I love Patton’s arc so far and I love the character too.
Here is where things get interesting. I can understand that Patton is under a lot of pressure to find the ‘right’ answer while unlearning a mentality he has had for so many years. I understand that Patton is trying his best throughout those episodes to do the right thing and fix everything. I can also understand that even though Patton is genuinely trying to make things better, he is actively hurting Roman. I understand that Roman is incredibly confused and hurt by what Patton is doing, as well as having his own issues with Janus. I understand that Roman needed someone to come in a defend him from Janus, but I can also understand that Patton was too overwhelmed and had gone through too much in the past few minutes to say anything or realise he needed to. I understand that Patton genuinely meant his ‘i love you’ but that Roman didn’t believe him because words weren’t enough at that moment. The beauty of POF and SVS is that all actions by both Patton and Roman make sense for their individual arcs. It just so happens that their arcs deal with different things and that they both have internal and external stuff to work through and they aren’t on the same journey nor can they provide the support the other needs and so they end up hurting each other. Idk I just love Patton’s arc and Roman’s arc and yeah. I hope that paragraph made sense lol. I just really love I can understand both sides really well, and how they are both complementary and conflicting (even if they don’t mean to be) as well. Just really well done.
Anyway, back to Virgil, I absolutely adore what Virgil did for Roman in FWSA. He took a chance and proved his love through his actions. Virgil looked at how much Roman was hurting and knew he had to be the one to do it. He told Roman through his actions that he loved him, that he deserved happiness and that what Roman wants matters and Roman needed that. He needed to not only be told that but shown it. And Roman’s happiness at the end (and Virgil’s of course, i mean the EYESHADOW) made it all worth it.
Long story short I love Roman, I love Virgil, I love Patton and I love how all their storylines have intertwined and conflicted. It is very interesting and a surprisingly natural way to write an arc and I really really look forward to seeing Roman’s arc continue because I feel like there could be some lessons I could learn from it (also seeing Roman be more healthy and happy will be fantastic).
This was kind of a mess of a rant but thanks wisp for letting me rant!!!!!! It cheered me up a lot!!!!!!

okay, let's start with levi (my beloved):

ugh, the hp sorting house system is way too reductive. he has qualities of gryffindor, slytherin, and hufflepuff - brave, astute, loyal to a fault, etc. so it's a hard choice. but if i really have to choose, i'd go for gryffindor. i know that his Bad Boy facade shouts slytherin, but while he has larger goals (killing all the titans, then saving the world etc.), he's got no actual ambition for himself. hufflepuff would also be a good option.
daemon (from the his dark materials series): (because i've just decided that's just way more accurate than the hp method) some kind of big feline. maybe a panther - a black panther would be the ideal - aloof, predatory, dangerous, fiercely independent.
best quality: besides his obvious strenghts as a leader and warrior, the way he cares for his comrades-in-arms. it's very hard to gain his trust and respect, but once you have it, it's forever. he's pragmatic and ruthless, yes, but he also has a huge capacity for compassion and friendship. not that he would be effusive about his affections, of course.
worst quality: none, he's absolutely perfect ❤ jklsdfhjk jokes aside, he really struggles to open up (a serious understatement), idt he ever talked about his traumatic past with anyone. i mean, maybe he mentioned it to hange and erwin (erwin knew him when he was still an undergound thug, so...), but... he's not great with feelings. despite his apathetic, intimidating mask, he feels and cares deeply, but he has a long history with losing the people he loves, so he tries to not personally care about his squadmates, which can be both a strenght and a weakness. of course, he spectacularly fails at this.
ship them with: well, it's not a secret that i'm a huge rivamika fan, this ship is almost literally consuming my waking thoughts lmao. imo they're perfectly compatible: very similar personalities (stoic, the strongest warriors, absolutely terrifying on the battlefield but with a soft underbelly), very similar pasts/experiences, so many parallels that it's actually ridiculous, etc. i love how they're both each other's equals and likeness (yes, i took it from jane eyre. no, i don't regret anything lmao). a lot of tropes i love, too: Terrible First Impression (the Pride and Prejudice vibes are so strong with these two, you have no idea), Kindred Spirits/Mirror Images, Veteran/Young Prodigy, The Last of Their Kind, even Height Difference lmao. i could write a whole rivamika manifesto, but this is already too long. (maybe for some other time 👀) i would've loved for their dynamic to be more explored in canon but alas, isayama clearly didn't give a shit about the ackerman legacy, he just used it as a plot shortcut to give them conveniently unique powers, since they never really talked about it 🙄 (and before some troll comes into my askbox shouting "you iNcEsT fReAk!!!!1!!", they're only very distantly related. we know shit about the ackermans but we know for sure that they've got at least several generations between them. biologically their shared DNA is 0%, obviously they don't see each other as family, all the eldians have a dead ass common ancestor from 2000 years ago so they're all basically ⁓related anyway. if you really wanna scream about i.ncest, go watch got/dark/the borgias and shut the fuck up please. or alternatively go outside and touch some grass) sorry for the rant, uh. anyway, i can also see levi/erwin. idk if i'd ever care enough to read a fic about them (i'm usually a huge multishipper, but for some weird reason not when it comes to rivamika? same with braime and kastle tbh), but still, i can see it.

misc. thoughts: besides the stupid teenage fangirl crush i have on him, i'm genuinely fascinated by the man himself. he's a huge mess of a contradictions, and yet somehow it works: he's violent and brash and kind of an asshole, but also has a strong moral code and integrity; he's obv very skilled at all the killing/torturing stuff and yet he has a huge respect for life; he's got a potty mouth to say the least, and yet some very aristocratic manners/tastes (the way he sits, his preference for tea and usually refined clothes); he comes from what's supposed to be an illustrous bloodline, he's methodical and very precise, and yet he was born and raised in the underground, he's been used to filth and blood and poverty since he was a child, kenny of all people was his father figure, and probably has known no other life than a perennial survival mode existence. he's "humanity's strongest soldier", but while well-built he's also small, the david to the titans' goliah, and probably not what people would assume a born warrior looks like. he's also one of the few characters who stayed true to himself and his original characterization until the end, bless you smol king ❤

this is actually easy: mikasa belongs to hufflepuff and no, i won't take criticism (just joking lol). enough with this "hufflepuffs are fluffy puppies/Cinnamon Rolls <3" thing: mikasa values loyalty and duty more than anything else. she's also hardworking... and fierce, strong, lethal. yes, hufflepuff and lethal are not mutually exclusive concepts.
daemon: (finally the better option) a she-wolf, fiercely protective of her pack.
best quality: loyal, brave, incredibly strong (alongside her more fragile qualities). practical and level-headed on the battlefield, at least when eren is not included in the picture.
worst quality: struggles to let go of the past (understandable, considering her trauma). tunnel-vision when it comes to eren, obv. extreme levels of delusions ("if only i spoke openly about my romantic feelings for him - as if i didn't made them abundantly clear in ⁓6 years - he wouldn't kill 80% of humanity :(((" lmao okay. just. okay), but that's more on the writing. she's sadly more static than any other main character throughtout the whole series.
ship them with: see above :) but recently i've also started to be intrigued by mikasa/annie and mikasa/sasha. also, i'm sympathetic to jeankasa fans, though i don't actually care for the ship.
brotp them with: EMA trio, especially armin+mikasa. their friendship is so beautiful and special. also sasha.
needs to stay away from: ...... eren, at least romantically. again, that's more on the writing than anything else, but e.remika unfortunately encompasses many tropes i loathe with all the strength of my old shriveled heart: childhood friends-to lovers where the (male) childhood friend doesn't acknolewdge/is completely indifferent to the other (female) friend's romantic feelings, she hopelessly pines for him for years without anything more than a cold shoulder... until in the last chapter it's revealed that he loved her all along and doesn't "want other men to have her!!! :((" (then why did you have no reaction whatsoever to jean's years-long crush on her while she was jealous of any vaguely female-shaped human being you were friendly to, including hange? are you that dumb, man?); the female character's development and entire arc 100% revolves around the male protagonist - she has no goals, no dreams of her own except staying with him forever and ever; the romance is based on an idealized childhood dream, therefore reaffirming those childish illusions would make the character regress, not actually grow up (and nope, epilogue!jk doesn’t count; that also lacks build-up - i would’ve said the same about rm as well, so it’s not about shipping, guys, it really isn’t - and mikasa needed an inner change; getting married to another man but still praying to eren’s shrine is not substitute to actual development lol). post-time skip she's never really frustrated/angry with him, they never get a confrontation about him becoming a, y'know, mass-murderer of gigantic (pun intended) proportions; she puts him on a pedestal, and never stops idealizing him/never sees him for what he actually is (the narrative framing him as some kind of tragic martyr/saint eren from paradis with zero agency and basically... no clear motivation for the abovementioned mass murder, and not the actual complex tragic anti-hero/villain motivated by revenge and righteous fury he deserved to be, does not help). it lacks a good or even decent build-up - it's basically all tell and not show. now, if they'd actually been childhood friends to enemies to lovers/mutually co-dependent... it could have been interesting. sadly, it's not my cup of tea. of course this is just my personal preference, no hard feelings to the shippers.
misc. thoughts: enormous potential. she's been my fav female character since s1 - and ah, i miss s1!mikasa, when she had actually other stuff to do besides mothering eren. i love that she's the strongest warrior (second only to levi, obv), that her skills are never called into questions despite her gender, i love how she stands up for herself and the people she loves, that she may seem cold and stoic and yet has a such a huge heart, that she's not perfect but also sometimes awe-inspiring. sadly, she never really gets out of eren's shadow; what she lacks is an arc focused on herself. that's why imo getting deeper into the ackerman lore would've helped (also, you cannot make the main female character and the most popular male character descend from the same Unique Bloodline or whatever, and never really make them acknowledge it out loud; as a writer, you just can't lol). my spite is so strong that i'm currently writing a ridiculously pretentious fic that's 70% development for her character, to give her a voice, and 30% ackerthirsting. (yes, that's the fic i'm always vagueblogging about lmao, rip @ my brain). if any other rivamika fan is interested… mind you, it’s in italian tho, and idt i have the skills to translate into english.
misa:

A Rant/Essay about Moira and Sigma and how they’ve changed my life
Hi so I am in a very very very good mood right now and I really want to rant about some things I love. 
As my followers may know very well by now, I LOVE Overwatch. Specifically I LOOOVE Moira and Sigma. I less so have a special interest in Overwatch and more so in those specific characters. 
Quick thing for those who don’t know, a special interest is a term used by people under the Autism spectrum to describe a subject or thing they have a very strong personal connection to. 
I have recently discovered I have Aspergers syndrome, a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects the person’s ability to socialize and causes them to have repetitive and restrictive behaviors and/or interests. Basically it’s very similar to Autism but there are some slight differences that differentiate the two that I won’t go into here because it’ll take too long, but you can research them yourself if you want to of course. 
This has been a HUGE discovery for me because I have known I was very different from other people for a long time but I had no idea why. This discovery explains EVERYTHING. I finally understand why I have such a hard time communicating with people and why I have such unusual tendencies (such as becoming hyper-fixated on things I like). This relates to my love of Moira and Sigma. 
In Overwatch, Moira O’Deorain is a brilliant Irish geneticist on the cutting edge of her field. She has made numerous revolutionary advancements in genetic technology and manipulation. She has devoted her life to her work and advancing the Human race as a species. However, she has a very dark side to her achievements. She has achieved her discoveries by disregarding all ethics and morality in her experiments. She has experimented on everything from animals to herself to even other humans. She has performed experiments on herself that have left her permanently disfigured (her right arm). She has performed experiments on people that have permanently changed their bodies in agonizing ways (Reaper). She believes that ethics are holding back scientific advancement and that they are a waste of time. Pretty horrible right? I wouldn’t blame you for calling that evil. However, you can’t say she is absolutely evil. 
Yes what she has done is horrible and she is completely morally bankrupt, but she also does what she does because she wants to help people. She does what she does because it’s for the betterment of the world. And it has made the world better! In the lore, she has made numerous revolutionary advancements in genetic technology! She is an absolute genius who is helping better the world in massive ways! But at the same time, she is hurting other people to get there. That is the epitome of complete moral ambiguity. 
And I LOVE that. 
You can’t say she’s completely good because she hurts people and disregards ethics as a waste of time. But you also can’t say she evil because she has made revolutionary scientific discoveries that could save the lives of millions. 
I love Moira not just because she is a complex character but I also relate to her on numerous levels. 
For one, she is Irish and I have a lot of Irish heritage. I adore my Irish culture and I love how she seems to be passionate about it as well given that she is fluent in Gaelic (our ancient language which is actually dying out) and she has a lot of Irish oriented stuff in the game. She has actually really caused me to get invested in my Irish heritage and learn about my culture. Another thing I relate to is that she has a great appreciation for art and is just generally pretty eccentric. She loves dressing up and cosplaying and art and music and all of these different things that I also love. 
One of the biggest reasons I relate to her though is her lack of ability to understand people’s emotions. I am a very empathetic person but at the same time I have a very hard time connecting to people. I have always had trouble interacting with people and making friends because I don’t understand how people normally communicate. From what I have seen, Moira is like that too. She doesn’t seem to really have any friends (she was sorta friends with Gabriel but that was more of a business friendship) and everyone seems to either hate her or thinks she’s creepy or weird. I headcanon that Moira is high functioning autistic because of her lack of empathy and difficulty understanding people’s emotions. 
Obviously I am not saying autistic people are unempathetic sociopathic mad scientists, far from it actually. People with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can either be very empathetic or they can lack empathy to varying degrees on both sides. Sometimes they are just as empathetic as everybody else. Everyone under the autism spectrum is completely different. I just think Moira is one of the people who lacks empathy to a very high degree. I think Moira having autism that causes her to lack empathy is a very good explanation for her beliefs and how she behaves, not to mention it’s something I relate to. 
As for Sigma, he’s a different character entirely. 
Siebren de Kuiper (pronounced “Ki-per” with “Ki” as in “kite”) is a brilliant Dutch astrophysicist. He is known for being a very eccentric introvert with a brilliant mind and a deep, fiery passion for his work. He performed an experiment that would’ve revolutionized technology by being able to harness the power of a black hole but it went terribly wrong. The accident left him completely traumatized and his psyche destroyed. This accident also gave him the ability to control gravity but I’m not really gonna talk about that in this because it’s not really necessary. 
Sigma has a lot of anxious tendencies, for example he has numerous voice lines where he becomes anxious or panicked. He says the phrase “hold it together” many times, a phrase he uses to try and comfort himself when he feels panicked. All of these have caused me to headcanon that he has PTSD and/or some other kind of anxiety disorder (although I haven’t decided which one yet). 
I personally have struggled with generalized anxiety and social anxiety for a long time so I find myself relating to his anxiety. Something about seeing this  62 year old absolute GIANT of a man (he’s 8′1″) having anxiety and relating to me in so many ways is really comforting. 
Whenever I am sad or anxious about something, I think of Sigma and I channel my fears through him. I do that a lot actually, not just with anxiety but with other emotions as well. Whenever I am really really happy about something, I think of Sigma and Moira. Whenever I’m depressed, I think about Sigma and Moira. I channel all of my emotions through these characters by acting out scenes in my head, imagining scenarios with them, or drawing them. Sometimes when I’m sad I’ll imagine Moira and Sigma in happy scenarios to cheer myself up. 
These characters, these fictional things from a video game, have had such an important impact on me I can’t even begin to describe it. I connect with these characters so deeply and so personally. 
I found myself connecting to them mostly during quarantine. This was the time when I was the loneliest I had ever been in my life. I was the most stressed and depressed I had ever been. I had lost a close family member and two beloved pets in a very short span of time. On top of this, I had no friends. I was completely downtrodden and lost. Then I decided to start playing Overwatch again, and everything started to change. 
I fell back in love with Moira more than ever and I found a brand new love for Sigma. I felt more connected to these characters than I ever would've because I had pretty much nobody else to connect to. These characters became my strongest coping mechanism and, in a way, my imaginary friends. I channeled all of my anxieties and sadness and grief and loneliness through them. I used them to help me grieve my loved ones. At the same time, I channeled my joy and pride and passions through them. These characters give me comfort when I need it most. That is something so special I can’t even begin to describe it. I love these characters with every single fiber of my heart and soul. They have been my greatest coping mechanism in these extremely tumultuous times. They helped me find actual friends for the first time in years, friends who I have been able to relate to and who love me despite my odd quirks and behaviors.
These fictional characters, these video game models, these lines of code, they have helped me survive my darkest days and enriched my brightest moments. These characters have fundamentally changed my life. 
And I wouldn’t trade it for anything. 
Thank you Overwatch. Even though your fanbase can be one of the most toxic things I have ever seen, you have given me friends and two characters that kept me going when life was trying its hardest to keep me down. You have really shown me the power of fiction and its ability to change lives. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. 
And thank you to whoever is still reading this. Seriously, I can’t believe you actually had the patience to listen to me ramble for so long about something so specific to me. It’s frankly incredible and I have endless respect for you. Your attention span is literally god-like if you were able to read through all this and I wanna thank you for blessing me with your priceless time and attention. It really is amazing.

More Female Characters to Avoid in Your Writing
A long while back, I typed up some posts ranting about characters and tropes I disliked.  These were Male and Female Characters to Avoid in Your Writing, and they’ve become my most popular posts yet.  Recently, I was struck by some topical inspiration, and decided it was time for a sequel!  
One again, these are my personal, subjective opinions!  No one dictates your writing or portrayals but you, and no one can or should decide how you consume fiction.  Also, as you may notice, I actually like most of the ladies below;  I just don’t like certain aspects of their portrayal.

1.  The Daenerys (i.e. the spontaneous war criminal)

Who she is:
The formerly heroic Mother of Dragons, who randomly charbroiled a city full of innocent people.
Why it sucks:
I’m not even talking about this from a feminist standpoint, or how one of the most consistently heroic and powerful female characters took an abrupt and undignified backflip into the Dark Side.  I’m speaking from a writer’s standpoint.  
Regardless of whether you liked Daenerys, she was rivaled only by Jon and Brienne as the show’s most consistently heroic character  From locking away her dragon children to ensure the safety of her subjects, to freeing countless enslaved citizens, she’s spent a decade proving herself to be an altruistic and noble figure.  And then, in the final two episodes of the entire show, the writers dracarys-ed that shit.
For some comparison, just imagine how ridiculous it would be if Jon Snow suddenly went batshit and started hacking up citizens because he was feeling stressed.  That’s about as plausible as Dany’s sudden passion for genocide.
And for the record, I’m not opposed to Daenerys becoming Mad Queen.  If it was done properly. This would mean informing the actress far in advance so she could modify her portrayal accordingly (which they didn’t), and building up to it through foreshadowing and established attributes.  Not at the last fucking minute.
Honestly, the only characters who remained narratively consistent to the very end are Drogon and Ghost, who are both precious babies who did nothing wrong.  
How to avoid her:
Decide as early as possible where a character arc is going.  Contrary to what Game of Thrones seems to believe, the character arc is important.  It should have a beginning, challenges that incite development, and a satisfying conclusion that showcases how a character has changed and evolved.  
And if you didn’t decide early?  You still have to come up with a conclusion that makes sense for your character, and not slap on the most unexpected ending possible in the name of Subverting Expectations.
On that note?  Subverting expectations isn’t always a good thing, and a reader predicting your ending isn’t the worst possible outcome.  Focus on telling a good story.  
2.  The Rayon (i.e. the transgender stereotype)
Who she is:
A transgender woman (portrayed by the male, cisgender Jared Leto) dying slowly of AIDS in Dallas Buyer’s Club.  Her role in the narrative is to teach the supposedly heterosexual (more on that later) main character that queer people are human beings.  
Why it sucks:
Rayon is many things in Buyer’s Club, and most are firmly rooted in stereotypes.  She’s a sassy, flirtatious, clothing-obsessed, self-loathing, drug-addicted prostitute.   She’s hypersexual, but never treated as romantically desirable.  She’s tragic, but also one of the few consistently comedic characters in an otherwise bleak film. 
It’s her job to gently goad the main character into treating her with basic respect, but he never quite gets there.  He refers to her with male pronouns throughout the entire film, and never acknowledges her as a woman.  At one point, he aims a gun at her genitals and offers her a “sex change operation.”  Which, is supposed to be comedic.
This isn’t to say that there are no sassy, flirtatious, clothing-obsessed, self-loathing, drug-addicted transgender sex workers, nor is there anything wrong with “stereotypical” trans people.  It isn’t the job of the marginalized to dispel stereotypes.  And if real trans people had created and portrayed Rayon, she could have been a realistic, dynamic, and compelling character.
And I say “created” because Rayon is strictly fictional.  Outside of this film, she didn’t exist.  
“Well, at least they tried to offer representation!”  you protest.  “What else was it supposed to be about?  A straight dude in the AIDS epidemic?”
Well, no.  Though the main character, Ron Woodroof, is presented to us as a violently homophobic, transphobic, womanizing asshole, the real Woodroof was, by all accounts, kind-hearted, open-minded, and bisexual.  
What could have been a powerful story of a queer man defying his diagnosis, living joyfully and meaningfully, and helping to prolong the lives of countless AIDS-sufferers, was instead watered down to a story of a straight, pugnacious asshole and his stereotypical, long-suffering, transgender sidekick who dies to Teach Him Compassion.  
How to avoid her:
Read books by trans people.  Consume media they create or endorse.

Put out a special call for transgender beta readers to point out mistakes, misconceptions, and offer tips on an authentic portrayal.
Garner insight into their perspective and experiences, and give them personalities outside of being trans.  
3.  The Piper Chapman (i.e. the unflavored oatmeal)

Who she is:
The “protagonist” of Orange is the New Black, and its least compelling character.  She and Larry are the sort of people who would ask me for a threesome on Tinder.  
Why it sucks:
Piper’s hook is that she’s a privileged, affluent white woman who unjustly finds herself in prison for -- well, for crimes she committed.  But expected to get away with, because, Privilege.
This isn’t to say Piper is boring.  She’s far from likable, but being likable and being boring aren’t the same thing.  In another series, watching a relatively cushioned, naive, bourgeoisie woman string along various significant others, thoughtlessly incite violence, and navigate an unfamiliar prison setting would make for thought-provoking and hilarious satire.  
But when compared to her charismatic supporting cast, with richly developed backstories, motivations, and relationships, she’s painfully bland.  I would much rather watch a series centered around Suzanne, Nikki, Taystee, Poussey, or even Pennsatucky.  They’re just more developed, opulent, enjoyable characters. 
It could be argued that Piper is the viewpoint character, whom the audience is supposed to relate to.  But I can assert that I don’t relate to Piper.  At all.  Her lack of empathy towards others -- such as leaving Alex after the death of her mother, cheating on her fiance, and inadvertently starting a *ahem* white power gang -- alienated me to her.  
Which might not be such a bad thing, but Piper is (supposedly) the protagonist.  We don’t need to like her, but we should probably be able to relate to her.
Or maybe I’m just jealous that hot women aren’t inexplicably fighting over me.
How to avoid her:
Your protagonist doesn’t have to be the most likable character in your story.  They don’t even necessarily have to be the most interesting character in your story.  And certainly not the most morally good, powerful, or knowledgeable.  But the viewpoint character is the character who we spend the most time with, and from whose eyes we perceive the story.  It’s important that we understand and relate to them emotionally.
Look at examples like BoJack Horseman, Holden Caulfield, Tony Soprano, Beatrix from Kill Bill, Mavis from Young Adult, Nadia from Russian Doll.  All are complex characters, with varying degrees of moral ambiguity.  Yet we can empathize with them emotionally and identify with them.  Even if we’ve never been in their situation, we see where they’re coming from.
4.  The Charlie (i.e. the dead lesbian)
Who she is:
One of the few recurring openly queer characters in the incredibly long-running Supernatural.  A lesbian who’s journey was (sort of) brought to an end when she was killed and dumped in a bathtub to incite drama.
Why it sucks:
I love Supernatural  but it can be remarkably tone deaf towards queer people, women, and marginalized groups.  Which, probably merits fixing, considering its following is largely comprised of queer people, women, and marginalized groups.  
I probably shouldn’t have to explain why killing off women and queer people for drama is Bad, but I’ll delve into its history a little:  from what I’ve read, censorship laws of the twentieth century forbade the portrayal of queer people unless they were ultimately killed or “reformed.”  This is why so much LGBTQ+ fiction is essentially gay tragedy porn, and why gays are so frequently buried to aid in the emotional narrative of their straight counterparts.  
That’s not to say queer people can never be killed off.  I might not have an issue with Charlie’s death (especially in a show as violent as Supernatural), if she weren’t the only openly queer character at the time.  
And there’s plenty of room for representation!  If Dean was openly bisexual, if angels were vocally confirmed to be nonbinary, and if there were more recurring, respectfully portrayed female and sapphic characters, Charlie’s death might not feel like such as slap in the face.  But as it is, it feels like a contribution to an ugly pattern.
In fairness, Supernatural has since improved in its portrayal of queer people:  two gay male hunters were introduced and given a happy ending, an alternate universe version of Charlie was introduced to the cast, and God is portrayed as a bisexual man.  
Yes.  All of that happened.  You have to see it to understand.
How to avoid her:
Educate yourself on the history of censorship in the LGBTQ+ community, as well as hate crimes and decreased life expectancy.  Make sure you aren’t contributing to the suffering of queer people.
If you have only one confirmed queer character in the midst of a very large cast, I’m inclined to think you need more.  You could say I’m BI-ased on the matter, though.
Look up “fridging,” and think about how many stories use the death of female characters to incite drama for men.
5.  The Allison (i.e. the reformed feminine)

Who she is:
She’s one of the most interesting members of the Breakfast Club, and that’s saying something.  A self-proclaimed compulsive liar who will “do anything sexual” with or without the promise of a million dollars (as well as one of the most quotable characters in the film) she demonstrates the emotional pain and complexity that’s often ignored or shrugged off as teen angst.  
And then she gets a makeover and a hot boyfriend, and suddenly everything’s better.  
Why it sucks:
It would be one thing if Allison’s problem was that she didn’t feel pretty or desirable.  But she never (to my recollection) offers any indication of that, and that’s part of what makes her such a refreshing portrayal of insecurity.  She’s emotionally neglected by her parents, and that is appropriately treated as devastating.  
It’s a complex and beautifully-portrayed problem that deserved far more than such a superficial, slapped-on solution.
Similarly, there’s no reason why Allison is paired up with the jock at the end of the film.  Neither showed any romantic interest in one another until her unnecessary makeover.  
A much better ending to her arc would be her finding acceptance among her newfound friends, and finally garner the recognition and acknowledgement she never got from her parents. 
I was torn between using Allison for this example, or Sandy’s makeover from Grease.  In both, girls are encouraged to alter their appearances to solve plot-related problems.  And both were “fixed” to conform to some standard of femininity or feminine sexuality that they didn’t meet before.
How to avoid her:
If a character feels the need to change their appearance to accommodate others or be respected, that should probably be treated as a negative thing.
Your character’s appearance can be a good tool to represent emotional changes.  If they alter their appearance, there should be a meaningful reason behind it -- outside of fitting into societal norms or garnering the approval of others. 
A girl putting on makeup isn’t a groundbreaking plot point, and girls who don’t perform to standards of femininity aren’t broken or deficient.  They don’t need “correcting.”
