Tumblr media
pairing: Steve Harrington/Female Reader
summary: There is a time and place to proclaim your love for somebody, and being injured and trapped in the Upside Down is not one of them.
warnings/extra tags: cursing, reader and steve arguing for no reason, and some kissing tm. >>>SPOILERS FOR ST4<<<, not beta read i edited myself but can't be trusted either.
note: I haven't written an imagine for him in a hot minute, and I say this because I have an ongoing series so check out my masterlist ;) Anyway, I wrote this with a dream my friend had about him in mind (she knows who she is). Thanks in advance for reading and please enjoy!
✧ ✧ ✧
You liked Steve Harrington, a lot. And have since you first met in that junk yard years ago when you were introduced to the creatures of this other dimension they called ‘the Upside Down’
Only then you just liked him, because these days you were pretty sure you were hopelessly in love with the guy. This didn’t mean he couldn’t get on your nerves though, especially when he treated you like you incapable of doing literally anything.
"No, you're not going down there."
Steve's voice was firm as he spoke, his words directed at you as you were starting to unbutton your Hawkins Letterman jacket, preparing to dive into Lover’s Lake and see if this gate was down there like Dustin theorized.
"Says who?" You bit back as you were pulling the jacket off, "Robin said Nancy was in charge, not you, Steve."
"Yeah well, I was the co-captain of the swim team and have had life guard certification for 3 years, so logically, it should be me," Steve stated as he too began to undress starting with his shoes all the while Eddie, Nancy, and Robin just watched. You scoffed at him.
"And I was the Captain of the girls swim and water polo team, and have had my certification for 3 and a half years,” you replied, “Can someone tell me which is better?"
They looked awkwardly at each other until Robin began to speak.
"I mean...technically speaking you both had similar responsibilities as a captain and co-captain, but I mean…” her eyes went to Steve who was looking at her with raised brows, “She doesn't have the co in front of hers and didn't have to share responsibility, and uh…her certification beats yours by half a year…so...I would say hers is better."
Steve shot a look at Robin as he was taking off one shoe as fast as he could.
"Gee. Thanks for taking my side Robin," he told her with a scoff while Robin shrugged and claimed she only said so because you asked, "It's just dangerous alright? There could be a gate down there, or worse Vecna could be there- and I don't think you should-"
"Look, out of everyone here I feel like I've been the most useless, and I'm taking the chance to do my part," you explained briefly, "Let me do this because I can do this."
"I know you can, but that doesn't mean you should-"
“And why not? No matter who goes down there the risks are all the same,” you said tearing your t-shirt off now, leaving you in just a tank top and your Hawkins gym shorts.
Steve was untying his other shoe now, trying not to become distracted by your sudden loss of layers, and argued, “Yes, but I don’t want you to take the risk-”
“So anyone but me can?” You gave him an odd look, one that made Steve shake his head quickly.
“No- No I didn’t say-”
"Okay. Are you two seriously going to argue who gets to swim to a possible underwater gate to another dimension where yet another thing is trying to kill us?" Robin was asking, successfully making you and Steve finally go quiet, “Is this a regular occurrence? Arguing over who gets to do risky shit? Because I think this happened last time too.”
She remembered how when coming up with a plan to infiltrate what they thought to be a simple stock room at Starcourt, Steve argued against pretty much any plan that involved you risking your life. Many valuable minutes were wasted with arguments like this with you two going back and forth.
It was almost embarrassing honestly that Steve didn’t realize how into you he actually was or how into him you were because for everyone else on this boat, and on the shore line, it was pretty obvious and has been for quite some time. This was just more evidence of it.
“No, we’re not arguing because we all already decided I’m going,” Steve said, making you laugh and toss your shirt at him before he could even think about taking his other shoe off. It hit his face and momentarily blinded him.
“We decided? No, you decided. Are you implying this needs to be voted on Steve?”
Steve took your shirt in his hands, and looked back at you, “Well maybe it should be- Robin who do you think-”
“I think the one who is already ready to go should go, you still have one shoe on and she does not,” Robin replied quickly as she was shoving the flashlight in the plastic bag Eddie had handed to her.
Steve groaned, “Are you never going to take my side or something Robin? I’m getting hurt over here.”
You were twisting your neck side to side, a pleasant smile on your lips that Robin chose you, but it hadn’t compared to when Nancy finally spoke up.
“Let her do it," Nancy told Steve, then cringed as her eyes went to yours, "Not because I think you're useless or anything, but I've been to enough swim meets for the paper throughout the year to know she's damn good…and she does hold the Hawkins High record for how long she could hold her breath...she can do it, Steve."
It was always nice to have Nancy Wheeler on your side, especially when it was Steve on the opposite side. He always seemed to listen to her and take her words to heart and while other times in this friendship of yours he seemed to drop everything and listen to her it made you feel a tad bit jealous, this time you felt satisfied.
“And like I said, I know she can, better than me, and certainly better than the rest of you, but what if-”
“Dude I’m about to dive down there just so I don’t have to hear you argue for another minute,” Eddie interrupted for the first time since your argument started, “I mean, I’m not going to, of course, but the fact that I was tempted to says a lot. You just gotta trust your girl, Harrington.”
All eyes went to him besides yours at his statement. You kept your gaze trained on Steve, seeing his expression turn from grumpy to confusion then to what you confused with amusement rather than nervousness.
“What? My girl? She isn’t…” he laughed, and you hated how a small part of your heart cracked, “She isn’t my girl, if anything she’s all of our girl-” he cleared his throat as he realized how weird that sounded, “I mean, she’s nobody’s girl, but definitely, definitely not mine-”
Nancy cringed at Steve’s words, and Robin had rolled her eyes for you while Eddie just raised a brow. You were frowning now, turning away from all them after you snatched the flashlight from Robin with a little too much force. Her eyes snapped to yours, being the only one to see your aggravated expression and understanding why.
While Steve’s concern was appreciated and not exactly unwanted, you were starting to get annoyed with him. Sometimes it really felt like when he was with you and the kids…he just saw you as one of the kids he had to keep an eye on and not as… something else.
Well, he didn’t get to tell you what to do, especially now when everyone was on your side and not his. So, without much of a warning, you dived into Lover's Lake.
The splash of the water had captured their attention, especially Steve’s and when he saw you were no longer in the boat. He cursed and looked over the edge and saw nothing but the darkness of the water.
“Dammit! I should’ve known she’d do that!” he said as he gripped the edge of the boat.
Why did you have to be so reckless sometimes? It seriously stresses Steve out, from you throwing him out of the way from that Demodog and getting smacked by it yourself despite it being your first encounter with one to you flirting with the guards at Starcourt and to now jumping into the lake to see if there’s a gate down there. One obviously was more dangerous than the others, but he wished you would just stop.
He was taking his shirt off now, obviously going to dive and swim down after you until someone's hand hit the back of his head just as he got the shirt off.
“Ow, hey-”
“Don’t be dumb, Steve!” Robin told him, “She’s going to be fine. Nance, how long can she hold her breath?”
Nancy answered, and it was more than a minute longer than Steve could, and it was obvious when he sighed.
“See, we’ll just time her and if she doesn’t come back up then you can valiantly dive in there and rescue her, maybe even give her mouth to mouth since you want to kiss her so bad-” Steve’s eyes widened slightly and he scrunched up his nose.
“Woah what? I never said-”
“Please, it’s obvious, so, so obvious that our new pal Eddie here thought you were together.”
Eddie looked at the both of them, "I thought you were like…an overprotective boyfriend or something with how hard you were trying to take her place.”
“Man, what do you know, you barely got here…”
“I’m just saying, man, I don’t think you would’ve fought that hard if it were one of us,” Eddie stated, making Steve scoff because he wouldn’t even hesitate to do the same with Robin and Nancy at least, but it was the fact that you could very well make this dive better than him was enough to prove to them at least that there was something more to it. And maybe a little to Steve too.
“Oh you don’t even know the half of it,” Robin said while Nancy half-smiled in amusement as she looked down at her watch, being sure to keep track of the amount of time you’re down there, “One time she flirted with a secret Russian guard, and lover boy here looked like he was going to explode-”
“What!” Steve’s cheeks were heating up at the mention of that, “We remember that very differently.”
Sure, he was a little annoyed but not because he thought you were trying to hook up with him, because it was risky. It didn’t matter if it kind of worked…and he was a bit jealous...not explosion jealous, but still in the spectrum of jealous.
“And the way they’re always around each other? We had no room on this boat and Steve insisted she come with…”
“Yeah, it is a little exhausting having to keep you two apart to be honest,” Nancy stated, “We could’ve used her at Pennhurst.”
“Hey, that is different, you guys are making it sound like I tell her what to do or something- first, I didn’t want her to be a babysitter again and second- she wanted to stay behind with me when you went to Pennhurst.”
“And I wonder why that was…” Robin hummed. Steve bit the inside of his cheek, not understanding was Robin was getting at, “You like her Steve, just admit it and things will feel better. I swear.”
Steve sighed, “Okay yeah, so I like her, but she isn't into me and I don't see why it's important right now-"
“Oh Steve, I thought you were a pro at this,” Robin said, and he shot her a little look as she grinned back, “I’m just saying, after all this is done, and your only problem is finding the ‘one’ maybe look at her, yeah?”
Steve swallowed a lump of spit, and laughed, “You’re just trying to mess with me so I'll ask her out and you can laugh when she says no.”
“Am I really that cruel?" Robin questioned, but was met with silence, she scoffed and continued to say, "Like I said, just look a little bit closer.”
Robin was finished speaking then, and Steve shook his head in disbelief before deciding to keep asking Nancy how much time had past.
✧ ✧ ✧
You hadn’t resurfaced yet, and the time you usually could hold your breath underwater was inching closer and closer by the second. Steve was getting nervous, eyes flickering all over the lake to see if you had maybe emerged elsewhere.
Already, he was moving to stand, “That’s it, it’s been too long, I’m going down there-”
“Steve-”
Suddenly, you were bursting out of the water with a loud gasp and splashing water all over everyone. Steve nearly fell over as it was where he was about to dive into. You looked up at him as your vision readjusted and saw him staring at you with relief.
And then he started to speak.
“Were you trying to beat your own record down there? Why did it take you so long? Were you sightseeing or something- I was about to swim down there and-”
“It’s there,” you interrupted him before he could blast more questions your way, “I saw it, Dustin’s right- there is a gate right beneath us.”
Steve went quiet, and the other three all shot shocked looks to one another and Robin quickly relayed the information Dustin on the walkie-talkie.
“It’s really down there?” Nancy asked more so in disbelief. You were nodding.
“Is it snack-sized, or like the one we saw at Starcourt?” Robin asked.
“Definitely not as big as that one was, but still pretty big,” you replied breathlessly as you began to climb up. It was Steve who was offering you his hand, and you ignored the fact that he was no longer wearing that yellow long-sleeved shirt that made you forget for a moment you were annoyed with him.
“That’s insane,” Steve was saying as your hands met. He was about to pull you up when he was suddenly jolting forward and nearly falling into the water. Your eyes had met each other, and it dawned on you that something was wrapped tightly around your ankle and pulled.
In one breath you said frantically, “SteveDon’tLetMeG-”
The rest of your sentence was drowned out by water as you were suddenly submerged once again, but this time it was very much against your will. Whatever that was coiled around your ankle was forcefully dragging you back down to the bottom of the lake.
Your hand had unfortunately slipped from Steve's grasp as you were pulled under, and he was calling your name. He didn't think twice, diving in after you while leaving Robin, Nancy and Eddie behind. In fact, Steve went after you so fast that for a moment they thought he was dragged down with you.
“What the hell was that, man! What the hell was that!” Eddie was shouting.
“What do we do?!” Robin shouted moreso at Nancy because she trusted her with decisions more than herself or Eddie. Nancy was already standing at the edge of the boat, ready to dive in after you and Steve.
It was hard not to panic as you were being dragged further and further from the surface. The water of the lake filled your lungs, and you desperately swung your arms upward in an attempt to swim back up, but it was to no avail.
As fast as you were underwater though, before you could possibly drown, you were suddenly gasping loudly and being dragged across rough terrain. You were shouting, water spilling from you lips.
Just seconds after you were pulled through the gate, Steve was coming through it too. His eyes frantically looked around for you until he heard your shouts. He called out to you, already beginning to run as fast as he could toward you.
You called out to him too, "Steve! Help!"
Your hands desperately tried to grab anything that could anchor you, but everything easily slipped from your grasp. It was only when you hit something particularly large the thing let go of you, and the sudden force of the stop caused you to roll a couple of times before you were burrowed in a bunch of sticky vines.
Steve called out your name again as he was by your side. You were too winded to comprehend what exactly had just happened, your eyes blinking rapidly at Steve and your new surroundings.
You were breathing heavily, gazing up at him with wide eyes as his hands grasped shoulders and making you face him. His eyes flickered all over you, making sure you were okay while asking you if you were hurt.
"I-I don't know, what- wait- where are we?" You said between pants as Steve eyes fell back onto yours. You were moving to stand, and Steve helped you.
After catching your breath with Steve’s arm wrapped firmly around you, you finally had taken in your surroundings. It was Lover’s Lake, yes but not your Lover’s Lake, and there were the same dust-like particles floating all around you.
The terrain was covered with the vines, and the sky was permanently cloudy. What really had you staring in awe was the flashes of red in the distance that came with cracks of loud lightning and thunder.
“Steve…are we?”
You looked at him now, and he was staring at the sky too, “Uh yeah…yeah I’m pretty sure.”
You were in the Upside Down.
✧ ✧ ✧
Steve was mad at you, though you couldn't really understand why. Because after he killed that bat-like creature that once had you by the throat by slamming its body repeatedly on the ground, he wasn't mad then, at least at you.
But, now he was and you thought maybe it had something to do with your newly sprained ankle that you were struggling to walk on. You knew the thing that had dragged you all the way down here was to blame for that.
After being dragged into this god forsaken place, these bat creatures had surrounded attacked the both of you. You were so high on adrenaline that you hadn’t even realized you could barely even walk on your ankle until you were able to catch your breath under Skull Rock.
"You shouldn't have dived down here," Steve said with a shake of his head, "It should've been me putting myself in danger. Not you."
You were leaning against Steve, who insisted despite his own injuries that he'd be the one to help you walk on your faulty ankle.
You rolled your eyes, "Again, it doesn't matter! We're all down here now, trapped and with no way of defending ourselves yet. The only way it changes is you being the one dragged and us coming after you."
"You went before we even properly decided who's going to go, at least you wouldn't be hurt or almost strangled to death-"
You huffed and began to try and move away from him, "You know what, I think I'd rather walk by myself."
Steve scoffed at the idea of that, "I'd hand you to Robin before letting you do that."
For some reason, this made you finally snap.
"Steve, seriously, what the hell is your problem? Why do you always treat me like I'm a kid who’s less than capable of doing literally anything? You treat me worse than you treat Dustin, an actual kid," you claimed in an irritated tone.
Steve seemed taken back by your words, stopping the both of you from walking (you limping) any further.
"Woah hey, I don't treat you like a kid-"
"Yeah well it sure feels like it," you interrupted with a deep frown now, "I just don't get it, do you not trust me or something? Is it because I'm a girl? Because you don't treat Nancy like that, or Robin-"
"What? No! It's not because of that, also I thought I made it pretty clear that I do trust you!" Steve argued back to you. You laughed in his face.
"Pretty clear? We wouldn't be having this lovely conversation if it was 'pretty clear' like you claim," you mocked slightly, Steve frowned too then.
"Well...yeah, I thought it was pretty clear how much I trust you and how much I..." he suddenly paused in his sentence, before sucking in a breath and saying, "...care about you, enough to not want you throwing yourself into danger and getting hurt," he explained, you pressed her lips together as you stared at him, "Seriously, you do it all the time-"
"For the same reason you throw yourself into danger all the time!" You exclaimed, this time loud enough for the other three to hear your back and forth, "I care about you too, maybe more than you actually know, so do you think it doesn't...affect me when you throw yourself into these situations too?"
Your voice was shaking slightly as you recalled him getting into a fight with Hargrove when he tried to attack Lucas, or when he was tortured and drugged up by those Russian soldiers. And how, more recently, you had to listen to his shouts of pain of the bats biting and chewing on his sides, being reminded of how helpless you felt.
Steve paused then, and furrowed his eyebrows.
"It does?"
"Yes Steve, it does because you're my friend. In fact, it terrifies me, Steve, when you do that because I'm also absolutely in love with you," You rambled on, "But I still trust you, you know? I trust that you know what you're doing and you'll just be okay. And I really, really wish you'd do the same for me."
Any words Steve was going to say had been wiped from his mind as he took in what you had just said. It seemed that you hadn't even realized what you said as you stared up at him with your eyebrows taunt and eyes meeting his directly.
'I'm also absolutely in love with you'
Steve's breath hitched gently, wondering if he actually hadn't of heard that and he was delirious from the blood loss.
"Shit, seems like he doesn't have to look closer," Robin muttered to both Nancy and Eddie who watched with raised brows that you'd just admitted that out loud.
"Uh hey, I don't think we have time for this-" Nancy called over to you too but was promptly interrupted by the ground beginning to aggressively shake beneath all of you.
Deep rumbles echoed from all around you as the tremors caused you to fall forward onto Steve. He caught you, but ended up falling backwards and hitting the floor with a thud.
You landed right on top of him with a short yelp, hands clenching the denim jacket Eddie let Steve borrow and your face pressed into his bare chest.
Despite the circumstances, Steve couldn't let go of your confession that he was now sure he actually heard you loud and clear. You were in love with him? Did everyone see it but him? You just had always seem to be this untouchable girl to him, even before you became friends, like you were there but never within reach.
When the floor had finally stopped shaking, you looked up to look at him with wide eyes that probably realized you'd just confessed your secret love for him. You looked ashamed, embarrassed even, and he could tell you were already thinking about ways to change what you had just told him before.
Steve realized in this moment you were always within reach, but just like Robin had said...he wasn't looking at you and just assumed you weren't interested when you very much were.
He prided himself in being able to capture the signs someone is into him, even called himself a pro, but clearly that title is wrong if he couldn't even tell if the girl he was in love with as well for almost a year returned his feelings.
"Steve I didn't-"
"It scares me too for the same reason," he suddenly told you. It took you a moment to process what he was getting at, "For the exact same reason."
You tilted your head, about to ask him if he knew what he was saying, but it was cut short by his lips meeting yours. It was a short kiss, but one that took your breath away in the few seconds your lips were touching.
“Are these two serious?” Eddie asked out loud.
“Oh yeah they are. This is not the time!” Nancy called from her spot, but her words fell on deaf ears as you and Steve kissed. Robin scoffed out loud and began to make her way toward her friends who were (finally) in a lip lock.
“Hey! I’m happy for you two to realize you have soft and fuzzy feelings for each other! I really am! But does it have to be right now!?”
Neither of you listened as you kissed, too engrossed with each other and the fact that these feelings you’ve both had for a year were reciprocated. It didn’t matter, at the moment, that you were in the Upside Down and would always remember your first kiss being here of all places.
You kissed him harder, pushing down onto him the way you always dreamed of kissing him and he returned with the same energy.
The kiss was brought abruptly to an end though when someone was grabbing you and making you stand. You blinked a few times in your stupor and saw that it was Robin.
“Like I said, I’m happy for you, but we seriously have to keep moving,” she told you. You looked back at Steve who was being helped up by Eddie. His eyes found yours, and so did a winning smile on his lips.
You laughed softly, still in a bit of a shock of what had just happened. Your fingers went to your lips that still felt tingly from his lips that were on yours.
“I better not wake up in my bed and realize this was just a dream,” you suddenly said to Robin.
She wrapped an arm around you, determined to be the one to help you walk now and replied, “Nope. This is real, we’re trapped in another dimension, and you just kissed Steve Harrington.”
You leaned against Robin now, a laugh escaping your lips.
Meanwhile, Steve was standing on his own, and gently placed a hand over his lips like you had, still feeling like he could feel your lips there and tasting you.
Eddie had cleared his throat, "Now you're really an overprotective boyfriend."
Steve coughed into his hand now as if to hide the fact he was touching his own lips, and stood up more straight. His eyes had found yours again, catching the smile on your lips as Robin helped you turn around and he grinned to himself as well.
He couldn't wait to kiss you again, preferably in your own world and on one of your first dates.

An averagely built guy who somehow managed to join the military force of his fortress city without a birth certificate, ID, and with dyed hair. Nobody knows where he came from, nobody knows why he is here but there he is. No magic or superhuman abilities or prodigal skills but my god does he make great goo bowls with greater personalities (nobody wants the goo bowls and he does not know why). That one friend that keeps trying to alleviate awkward situations with jokes and random laughter.

It's been amazing to meet all new people who share the same interests as me, and that I can just be authentically myself here without judgement. There is plenty more to come and I hope you all enjoy! So here is chapter 17!
Based on the HBO show and the actors who portray the characters, no hate to anyone involved.

Don was right, it was easier. The guilt I felt still haunted me like a thick fog, but I was able to see through it. I didn’t even have time to think about it, we were moving out. We had hoped that since we had taken Foy we would be pulled back for a break, but it wasn’t to be. We needed to keep moving forward as ordered. We moved to Rachamps, the attack was successful. Minor casualties from the assault. We spent the night in the convent, the sister’s brought in their choir to sing for us. It was one of the few moments I felt calm. I looked around the room at the men who filled it. A small group. We had started with at least 100 plus soldiers, but looking around the church at the men, the loss was noticeable. I sat next to Don as we listened to the women sing. It was heavenly, their voices so ethereal echoing around the room.
“Emily, a word.” Speirs appeared in front of me. I nodded standing from my seat and following the Captain. He walks us into a side room shutting the door, he motions for me to sit on one of the seats in the room, he does so too, sitting across from me. He leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees, hands clasped together.
“I’m going to mention to Captain Winters what happened the other day during the assault.” He speaks first. I sigh with relief, I was worried about how my actions would affect my position in the company.
“But if I ever catch you using a weapon, not in self defence, I will have you back on a ship faster than you can blink you hear me.” He said sternly. I was being given a warning.
“Yes, Sir.” I stated. He sighed, rubbing his face, his eyes softened.
“Listen Emily I heard about what happened before Foy, I know you saw Muck and Penkala die.” He says in a more gentle tone.
I stiffen. The flashes of their final moments play in my head.
“I also understand that the men thought you were fine. But I have heard otherwise from some of the soldiers you are closer with, that you didn’t handle it very well. Is that correct?” He asked, I tried to hide the pain on my face.
“I did the same thing I did when my mom died, I pushed everyone away.” I said quietly he nodded.
“Does your family send you letters, Emily?” He queries.
“No Sir, I don't have any family.” His brows furrow.
“Friends.” He asks.
I shake my head. A concerned look crosses his face.
“You know you can go home if you want Emily.” He offers, I’m sure he thinks it’s what I want.
“No, I would like to stay.” I blurt. He’s surprised by my answer, sitting up straighter in his chair. He regards me.
“Emily, can I ask you what you were doing before you joined?” He implored.
“Studying sir, to be a nurse. I hadn’t quite finished yet, I was in my last semester.” I tell him the truth.
“What are your plans for when the war is over?” He continues, watching me carefully.
I’m stumped by the question. I have no clue. If the war finishes does another shimmer appear to take me home? Or do I stay here? If I stay here what the fuck am I going to do. I don’t exist. I have no house, no money. I’m technically not even an American citizen, I have no passport, no birth certificate, no identification. I didn’t think that far ahead, right now I am just trying to get through the days. The question throws me for a loop. Ron waits expecting an answer I can’t give him.
“I’m-I’m not sure, sir.” He looks at me confused.
“Will you not go and finish your degree?” Ron suggests.
“I quit. I don’t have the money to go back and study.” I shift on my seat, I’m sure he doesn’t mean to but his questions are making me nervous. No one has asked this much about me, not about my future, or where I live or what I want to do. I don’t even know myself. If I was to stay here in this time, how would I even go about slotting back into reality, because it isn’t mine.
“You have no savings?” He says shocked.
“I spent everything to come here.” I lied.
“Where are you living?” I freeze. I can’t answer him. I open and close my mouth.
“I was living in the dorms when I was studying, but I guess now I’m homeless.” I say slowly.
“You have no one you can stay with?” I shake my head.
“Emily, what about your possessions?” He seems frantic at this point, he sounds worried for me.
“The only things I have sir is what I came here with and the clothes on my back, which technically aren't mine since I have to give the uniform back. I sold everything for a ticket to europe.” I wring my hands together, throughout the conversation growing more clammy.
He looks shocked. “That’s why you don’t want to leave?” I nod, “I have nothing waiting for me back home, sir. I want to stay with the Easy men, I want to see it through till the end.”
“Right, well, you’re staying, but I think we will discuss the other matter later.” He seems very concerned for me, he seems stressed. He rakes his fingers through his hair, taking a breath, he moves to stand.
“Please don't tell the men. I don't want them to know about my situation.” I say quickly before he leaves. He turns to look at me.
“Emily, I thought you would have more confidence in me. I would never.” He smiles gently. He stands and leaves the room, leaving the door open for me to follow after him.
“Thank you, sir.” I mutter softly even though he has already left.
I made my way back to my seat, “Em.” A voice called to me, my eyes searched the room wondering who had called me. Lieb raised his hand waving at me. I walked over standing in front of the pew he sat on.
“Hey Joe.” I smiled at the man, he sat next to Grant and Russo, Babe was perched behind them talking to the men he sat with.
“You alright kid?” He leaned forward as he spoke, resting his arms on the front of the wall he sat behind.
“I’m ok.” I smiled, he nodded looking up at me.
“Em, we don’t think of you any differently.” He starts, he reaches out his arm taking my hand from my side, holding it in his. “I should’ve noticed.” He shakes his head, his thumb tracing over the back of my hand.
I shook my head. “Joe I made it so you didn’t. Even if you had, I wouldn't have accepted the help.”
He sighed giving my hand another squeeze before letting it go. “Next time Emily you ask for help. Got it?” I chuckled, nodding. He gave me his signature grin. I said goodnight to the men. I sat down beside Don, who looked exhausted.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to be inside but these goddamn seats are so uncomfortable.” He wriggled around on the seat trying to find a comfortable position. The pews were very uncomfortable, the seat part was so small you could barely lie down sideways without falling off and the back of the chair was so upright there was no way to slouch or lean. They were also wooden, hard and slippery. If you sat in one position for too long you could feel yourself slowly sliding down the seat. I laughed nodding. My butt hurt from sitting.
“Well I think they’re made with the intention to keep you awake through mass.” We laughed together.
“The old people find a way to do it though.” He said in a hushed voice as to not disturb the others.
“Yeah but they’re old, they can fall asleep anywhere. Have you ever seen an old person sleeping in a comfortable position?” I asked, he looked baffled by my question.
“I mean I don’t go sorting them out.” He chuckled.
“Don think of your grandparents, where do they fall asleep?” I tried to get him to imagine it so I could get my point across.
“Sitting up in their arm chair.” I nodded, my point being proven.
“One time when my Nana was getting older, she had taken out her hearing aids and fell asleep. I thought she was dead. I yelled at her for so long and she didn’t move. Then I went up to her and shook her, she almost booted me in the head.” I recounted the story to Don as we both laughed.
“My Granddad fell asleep with his false teeth still in and they started whistling, so loudly in fact that the dog actually came.” Don and I covered our mouths trying to keep quiet while sharing our stories.
“The dog jumped on his lap and then stole the teeth from his mouth cause they were hanging out.” I wiped the tears from my eyes as he continued.
“What did the dog do with them?” I asked, trying to catch my breath.
“He ate them.” I covered my open mouth, laughing at the thought.
“You’re kidding?” He shook his head while he giggled.
“No, we had to wait till the dog shit them out again.” We were getting glances from the other men for being too loud, I pressed my face into his shoulder trying to muffle the noise.
“The best part is once the dog did shit them out he washed them and kept using them. He said he paid so much money for them he wasn’t going to throw them out.” I scrunched up my face in disgust as he laughed.
“Oh ew!” I pretended to gag.
God I hadn’t laughed like this in a while. It was a normal occurrence with the four of us, but since Skip and Alex had passed I hadn’t laughed since. There wasn’t a time with them we weren’t laughing, they were so funny. Alex, Skip and Don together was pure entertainment. Then when I got closer to them it was absolute chaos. I always found myself in the foxhole with the three of them. We were either playing games, cards, making stupid bets, talking shit or telling the worst jokes. It was like we were in another world when we were all together, I could forget that I was having the worst day ever and was absolutely freezing. I missed them so much, but it felt so good to hear Don laugh again. I smiled at the man who had finally stopped laughing, he smiled back.
My heart fluttered. I have never been in love, but I think this is what it feels like. His smile could pull me from the darkest depths. His touch soft and gentle made my whole body come alive. His laughter made me smile so hard my face felt like it could crack. He made me happy. I wanted to spend every day next to him, if I wasn’t with him his name would still be on my lips, his face would still linger in my mind. I couldn’t stop the pitter-patter of my heart everytime he said my name, smiled at me, laughed with me. Like I was floating, weightless. He lifted me up but somehow grounded me. He still made me nervous, my stomach flipped when he was near. The amount of times I had to hold back from just kissing him. I would forget that we weren’t a couple and have to stop myself from kissing him goodbye when I left, or saying I love you when he looked at me in a certain way.
I was falling in love, or maybe I had already fallen. But one thing I was certain of, I was completely and utterly in love with Donald Malarkey.
“Do you want to try and get some sleep?” I ask him, his eyes drooping. He nodded.
“Here lie down, rest your head on my lap.” I didn’t need to convince him, he lay down immediately placing his head in my lap. He crossed his arms over his chest, whispering a goodnight. I ran my fingers through his hair in a soothing manner, his breaths quickly turning even.
I admired his sleeping face, lightly tracing my fingers over his features. I traced around his face, then his eyebrows, his eyes, his nose, his mouth and his chin. Painting a picture in my mind of the man I was in love with. I mulled over the thought of when to tell him. My brain quickly takes me to the worst case scenarios, what if he doesn’t love you back, only loves you platonically, what if he laughs in your face and tells everyone what you said.
I shook my head at the silly thoughts, Don would never. Even if he didn’t like me he would be gracious and kind in letting me down, it wasn’t in his nature to be cruel. If it turned out he only loved me platonically I could be happy, I just needed him in my life, and even though it would hurt to see him fall in love with someone else I would still be happy for him. His happiness is mine, and that’s all I wanted.
Then another nagging voice crept from the back of my mind, you’re an imposter, this isn’t your time, what happens when you need to leave? How would you explain this to him? He’s going to think you’re insane. You have nothing here, it won’t work. Those thoughts shook me to my core, am I going to have to leave this all behind, what would happen if I stay, would there be irrevocable damage done? Can I stay without everything falling apart? Then I will just have to make the most of the days I have left with him, and the rest of Easy company. I won’t take anything for granted.
The thing that annoyed me the most is that I don’t have the answers to my questions. There are no books I can read, no one I can ask. It’s not as if someone asked me to come and then sent me through the shimmer. The shimmer just appeared there was no sign, no instructions. I didn’t even know if it was meant for me, was I the only one who could see it? If someone else had been there before I did would they be in this position I am in now, or would they go somewhere else.
I groaned internally, this was too much thinking, I could feel a headache starting. I pressed my fingers into my temple, rubbing small circles to relieve the pain. I could dwell on that another time. But for now I just needed to rest, we still weren’t out of the woods yet. The soft snores from Don lulled me to sleep.
I sat next to Don in the back of the truck as we bounced along the road. We were enroute to Haguenau. We had all thought we were being pulled back but they needed us to hold the line, as per usual. Lip sat across from me looking pale, I had asked him earlier if he was ok and he told me he was fine, but I could see the exhaustion etched into his features. He looked ill. He tried to hide the wet cough from me but I heard him. Even when we were sleeping last night in the convent he coughed in his sleep. I needed to get him to rest but the man was so persistent it was hard to get him to stop.
“Hey, look, it’s 1st battalion.” George said, pulling me from my thoughts about the sick Sergeant.
I looked to see the soldiers walking down the street.
“Hey! Hey!” George turned around yelling at the men as they walked. I looked at him confused.
“What do you want?” One called back.
“Yeah, thanks for crapping in our foxholes, ya shitheads!” He shouted at them. I burst out laughing.
“Hey, it’s our pleasure!” The man called back.
“Enjoy the walk boys.” Bull called to them, popping his cigar back into his mouth. I shook my head as I chuckled. I leant into Don smiling at him. He gave me a smile, taking my hand in his. I scooted closer to share the warmth. Watching Lip and George smoke their cigarettes.

What DO the public masses and the government think and do about Ingo now? Please tell me they are told the truth the sheer hilarity would be incredible. Would Ingo be considered his brother's age or three years old.
...Would Ingo have any problems interacting with people, considering he never really interacted with anyone outside of Emmet in his formative years and he lived on a mountain for the first 3 years of his life? That can't have been good for his development. Even when he did talk to people he just needed to act like Emmet and now he needs to be his own person (yay! But that seems like it would seem terrifying at first.).
OOH how do the depot agents react? They already interacted with Ingo, though they had no idea.
This is probably one of my favorite asks so far, because it gave me so much to think about. Which is also why it's taken me a bit longer to answer. I am trying to answer asks on a first come, first serve basis. To the best of my ability! Thank you for the ask!
Anyway, this post is VERRRRRY long, absolutely monstrous by my criteria, so under the read more it goes. You have been warned. I apparently can not shut up, lol.
So, the government. It doesn't take long for everyone to realize that Ingo, legally, does not exist. Without any identifications, there's a lot that you can't do that is important for thriving in modern society. So, yeah, they need to tell Unova's governing body the whole truth so that they can get Ingo on the fast track to the living life.
And unfortunately, the first destination on that journey is the hospital. Because Ingo spent the first three years of his new life in Sinnoh, a few centuries in the past. Man's health is either Not Good, or it's about to be. Which creates a lot of confusion for the health department, because. Well. Because. The explanation that this random haggard man needs all of his vaccines because he lived in the past for three years and didn't even have a corporeal body before that is a lot to take in, you know? And then there's the fact that the only existing documentation for this Mr. Ingo is a death certificate dated back to 28 years ago(?!?!?!).
The first solution they come up with to solve this conundrum is to do a DNA test and compare to other living family for proof of relation, and to just. Make sure they're not being made a clown.
Fun fact. When Arceus created Ingo's new body, he basically copy pasted Emmet's DNA, attached it to Ingo's soul with cosmic super glue, and called it a day. They're already twins, it's fine. :)
Yeah, they weren't ready for it when the results for Ingo's and Emmet's DNA results came out as a definitively exact match. Actually, they don't know what they were expecting.
During the few weeks that Ingo spends hospitalized for both acclimating and quarantine purposes, the identifications services go into a flurry of action to create documents for this new human adult person that spawned into existence from Arceus knows where. (See what I did there.)
Fun times. The government workers will literally never forget this for their entire lives. They will remember it as the most bizarre event they've ever experienced, bar none.
As for his official age now, since Ingo's body is physically 28, same as his brother, and he is mentally the same age, they just kinda shrug and say, yeah, sure, he's 28 years old. Never mind the fact that he's only been alive for three. Actually, don't think too hard on it. Don't.
Now, the depot agents. lmao
The day Emmet brings in Ingo for retraining and to "reinstate" him is a day of absolute chaos.
Emmet's first instinct, when he's formally introducing his brother to their employees during a meeting, is to gaslight them all into thinking Ingo had been their other boss the entire time three years ago. (When going into technicalities, it's hard to say if that's true or not. Which is the best part.)
"I am Emmet. I am getting down to business. Today, we will welcoming back Ingo to our work force. He went missing three years ago. He is back now. We will be resuming standard operating procedures with Ingo as the Subway Boss on the singles line again. Any questions?"
(Ingo, not having been forewarned of Emmet's plans, blinks and stares at his brother for a few moments, before mentally sighing and face-palming. He quickly decides to let Emmet get away with this, however. He's not immune to following along Emmet's whims, and he's not disinterested to see how this falls out.)
...
...
"A NEW SUBWAY BOSS?!
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN AGAIN?!"
"HE LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE YOU, WHO IS HE?!"
"How rude! I am offended for Ingo. You forgot about him! Unforgivable. Yup! This is verrrry sad. Terrrrrible. Ingo is my twin brother. I was in grief over his absence for three years. I am disappointed you did not notice."
"I didn't forget, Boss Emmet! I've never set a foot out of Gear Station my entire life, so of course I remember Boss Ingo! We loved working with Boss Ingo, I don't know how anyone could forget a kind and jovial man like him!"
(Depot Agent Jackie is most definitely in on it.)
All of the depot agents are reeling at this new reality that they have to force their brains to get used to. Some would keep swearing up and down that there was never a Boss Ingo, but then Emmet would wave around the proof of employment (that he typed up literally an hour before the meeting) and they'd just be reduced to a state of mental sputtering and questioning reality. Many are a flustered mess whenever they end up interacting with Ingo himself.
Emmet and Ingo let the depot agents stew in this prank for just the one day, at least until Ingo finally convinces Emmet to hold another meeting the next day to tell the agents the full truth and allow the poor guys some peace of mind. (Ingo does scold Emmet a little for being so mean-spirited with this particular joke, though it doesn't last too long when Emmet points out that Ingo didn't stop him.)
Funny enough, the truth ended up being even more of a bombshell than the prank had been. Who woulda thought.
From then on, the twins and the depot agents do their best to stay professional and help ease Ingo back into the work routine as something like a Deputy Subway Boss, and they're pretty successful! It doesn't take too long to get Ingo fully instated as an official Subway Boss, Ingo being as enthusiastic and dedicated to the job as he is, and, over time, the agents slowly realize that they did miss him without ever knowing it. Three years ago, they really did notice his disappearance, ironically enough. Ingo's "personality" was suddenly gone, Emmet was never the same, and the work environment changed. It's weird, but in the end, they all end up thinking, "I'm glad he's back."
The day of Ingo's official promotion, the depot agents throw him a party and make sure to tell him this:
"Welcome back. We missed you."
The public's reaction to Ingo is a mixed bag, predictably.
The day of Ingo's reintroduction to Gear Station, the official Battle Subway PokeTwitter account announces: "Attention all passengers! Starting today, a new Deputy Subway Boss will be conducting us to our destination on the Singles Line! Deputy Boss Ingo looks forward to future travels with challengers. Will you go on to victory or defeat? All aboard!" (Attached is a picture of Ingo in the signature point and call pose, right hand pointing forward and left hand out to the side pointing down.)
Most responses to the announcement are basically either, "isn't that just Emmet?", or "I had no idea Emmet has a twin brother!". There's a lot of chipper "Welcome!" and "All aboard!" comments and some competitive "Can't wait to see what he's made of!" remarks, so the reception is generally a mix of confusion and enthusiasm.
And then it all came crashing down when one person says, "Isn't this the same guy who ran the singles line years ago, tho? Did he come back?"
One person unintentionally does what Emmet did to the depot agents to an entire social media community. Thus restarts the conspiracy theories again, much to Ingo's and Emmet's exasperation. If they weren't already practically celebrities by this point, then they definitely are now.
Emmet ends up using his personal account to address questions and clear it up as much as he can, while skirting around the full truth as much as possible, sometimes even outright dodging certain inquiries altogether. Ultimately, he and Ingo had decided it was best to keep it private knowledge that only certain people would know. Emmet's best efforts certainly couldn't stop rumors from sprouting all together, but it did help to placate the internet riots and calm them down. It only took about a week before the twins were no longer all PokeTwitter could talk about.
Now, interestingly enough, Ingo himself isn't doing too bad, socially. Sure, he did live on a mountain for a few years, but he also visited Jubilife Village often! He assisted at the training grounds, helped teach the villagers to befriend and battle with pokemon, often did any needed shopping there. He made sure to check in with the Pearl Clan regularly, it'd be rude to essentially go AWOL on them when they took him in and bestowed him a position as important as warden of their Lady Sneasler.
Point being, Ingo got past most of his social struggles during his displacement in Hisui. Learning how to human when in an entirely unfamiliar setting and without his memories was a huge challenge for Ingo, but he gradually settled into the new experience. Which is why going to modern day Nimbasa is such a huge culture shock. There's so many more people, ranging from incredibly kind to brutish in behavior, sometimes critical, sometimes indifferent. Despite this, Ingo has been able to be himself without question, without backlash, without fear, and it's a marvel.
The people that Emmet and Ingo had surrounded themselves with never failed to make Ingo feel encouraged and supported, including Emmet himself. Especially Emmet. Ingo has no idea what he would do without Emmet. He loves and appreciates his brother immensely. With all the assistance Ingo has, he may be nervous about meeting his new future, but he's determined to do it. Stubbornly optimistic, even. No matter what set backs or adversities Ingo may face, he has the greatest safety net holding him up.
(If Emmet ever finds anyone antagonizing Ingo, he will most definitely give them a traumatic beat down in a pokemon battle, and terrify the living daylight out of them by promising them eternal despair if he ever sees them near Ingo ever again.
Basically, Ingo: sunshine, Emmet: sunshine protector.
I am right, and I should say it. Luckily for everyone, it doesn't happen often. Nobody in their right mind would want to be mean to Ingo.)

first off: i saw your mothman coaster art and it's very cool :D
second off: you mentioned it was for a class you're taking? is that part of like a larger major for attraction design? i have a family member who has always been interested in that kind of thing and i didn't know there was something like that out there!
Tysm!!
In short: Yes, it's what I'm studying! People's reactions when I tell them are so funny bc no one has heard of it
As for a better explanation, I'll try my best to keep it from being horribly lengthy but its kinda complicated rn so bear with me (I also do not mind answering more questions about it if I know the answer)
So, my major is technically called Computer Graphics Technology/CGT, which is a digital design based major that has multiple things you can choose to concentrate in, kinda like a major within a major! I chose to concentrate in Themed Attraction Design (sometimes I just say that I'm majoring in that bc CGT tends to go over people's heads more), which is unique from the other concentrations in that it has a minor and a certificate if you don't want to take the whole CGT major. You also don't have to be into illustration/concept art- that's the role I've fallen into, but just in my group for this project we also have modelers, story writers, engineers, graphic designers, etc! They'll push you but let you work to your strengths.
I chose IUPUI (Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis) bc it's one of the very few colleges that offer it! However like I said things are weird rn bc IUPUI is splitting itself into the two separate colleges after this semester (we're literally going through an academic divorce ✌️😞) so I'm on a teach-out plan of study which is likely different than students starting fall 24' since it'll be under Purdue Polytechnic and yada yada all that fun and confusing stuff. With the many changes, Purdue should still be keeping TAD as an option.
BUT ANYWAYS from my experience so far it's really interesting! You get a good amount of exposure to the themed attraction industry, such as yearly trips down to Florida for the IAAPA convention, WDW (we took some Imagination campus classes), and Universal in November (I went last year, it was really fun), as well as getting to listen and talk to industry professionals such as imagineers and ppl at universal creative (as well as museums, zoos, etc). It's definitely unique and going to theme parks with the excuse that it's for education is a bonus lol

A Collection of Headcanons - Food & Eating Edition!
Can They Cook?
Yes, for the most part.
Due to his time outside of Mondstadt, Diluc can make quick, efficient meals with what could be found as well as branch off into more technical meals and food.
Childe always prepped food and helped out in the kitchen while he still lived with his family, so he can cook for himself and others with a higher success rate.
The only things Beidou knows how to make are fried fish fillet and grilled fish on a skewer, but she's been doing it for so long that they come out perfect each time.
Zhongli can cook and he can do it rather well, but with his in-depth knowledge of Liyuen cuisine and his habits, the cooking time for the meals takes days to conclude if he did it his way.
Besides his signature meal, which is his granny's recipe modified by him a bit, Itto cannot cook to save his life as any cooking done by him is guaranteed to put him in some sort of trouble.
Can They Bake?
Barely, perhaps in theory.
Diluc can make some tea and cookies in theory, but it would take more time than he's willing to spend in the kitchen. He would probably ask Adelinde to help him with it if he tried.
Childe's mother did most of the baking and he's passable at the basic dough, but anything more elaborate than that and he's a lost cause. He's too impatient to do something for that long.
Even if The Alcor could have an oven on it, the ship is made of wood and that is highly flammable. Beidou doesn't even like pastries and sweets that much anyway, so she wouldn't even try.
Zhongli is the only one here that would bake as a hobby, but as stated before, he would take days as he would be extremely particular about which ingredients he uses.
The last time Itto tried making cookies for his grandma, he gave himself intense food poisoning. This is why Shinobu has a certification in baking specifically.
More under the cut!
Diluc -
Background
As someone who's enterprising and self-starting as well as a member of a family who has been in the wine-making business for centuries, he's going to know a thing or two about growing food.
I personally think that grapes are not the only thing that grows in the Dawn Winery, as he would have orchards for types of apples and cherries, berry bushes for valberries and wolfhooks, and maybe some citrus trees if he can manage it.
He would also have some beehives for the help of pollinating all of his crops and to also get some honey (he and some of the staff planted some flowers to help along with this as well).
He wouldn't really be planting crops like corn, wheat, and barley all that much as he mostly dabbles in wines, but there's no one saying that he wouldn't do it down the line.
Diluc has been trying to breed and develop certain types of grapes for more non-alcoholic drinks and juices, and this has had mixed results so far.
I also feel as if at some point, he will begin to dabble in some vegetable gardening for more of his own personal enjoyment as he ages in years.
Habits
Diluc may know a great deal about growing food, but this is nothing compared to him eating food.
One thing that is certain about his meals is that no matter what they are, they will be quite large as he will burn through that and more before the day is done.
When he's not working as hard as he usually does, he'll have more filling things such as mashed potatoes and gravy, a nice stack of pancakes, a stuffed omelet, or a large helping of bacon. Perhaps at the same time.
While he is on the clock, however, he'll opt for something quick and nutritious that can be eaten on the go, such as some toast with jam and butter, a granola bar, or some fruit.
He will occasionally indulge in a bit of snacking, which will be a piece of jerky, trail mix, or dried fruit as he's often out and about when he starts getting hungry after a meal.
Likes & Dislikes
Despite him being raised in proper aristocratic fashion and having the privilege to be a picky eater, I will say that he is the type to eat his greens responsibly as any adult does, but if he was given a choice, he would opt for an option with meat in it.
Some of his more favored dishes feature red meat and pork exclusively and are almost always slathered in butter or cheese.
He also has a bit of a sweet tooth, as his favorite drink is grape juice and he's been shown to like more subtle sweets.
So naturally, he's not going to like anything strong and bitter, like wine.
In terms of dislikes, he's not that into fish and would opt out of having it if there were other options to be had as he is not a big fan of the flavor or the texture.
Diluc absolutely will not eat anything that is overly spicy. He wants to eat a meal, not set his mouth on fire.
Childe -
Background
Of course, he knows how to fish, but specializes in ice fishing and the creatures that come out of it, so he can cut, prep, and cook just about anything that comes out of the water.
I would imagine that Childe also has a bit of a green thumb, as I would expect his family to have a small garden for the warmer spring and summer months.
On that note, sometimes some people in the village would forage for berries and wild plants during this time to add a little bit of variety to their diets.
I don't think he had a high-quality meal typical for 'well-off' folk until he was promoted into the Fatui Harbingers, as military food is hardly a step up from home-cooked meals.
Sugar or anything involved with it was rare enough for Childe to only expect sweets on special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays.
His family would likely have chickens that have adapted to the conditions, as they are easier to maintain and look after than bigger animals, so he had eggs and chicken occasionally.
Habits
In the remote village in the middle of Snezhnaya's version of Siberia, food would occasionally be hard to come by, so you ate what you were given.
Childe has retained this mentality, the intensity of it really coming to light in the midst of the Abyss, where the 'food' was more than questionable by normal human standards.
So he'll eat anything that's edible, including leather if it comes down to that, but he draws the line at outright cannibalism (or so I hope).
Normally, he has a small breakfast to get him going, a decent lunch if his schedule allows for it, and a dinner in which the size fluctuates depending on if he's still out or free from work.
He makes sure to eat as it is fuel for his body, but he also seems like the type to rip and tear until it's done, so once the adrenaline wears off, he undergoes the endeavor of heavy snacking.
Not much of a drinker, despite the culture he comes out of. Most of the fire-water he's had has been moon shined from his neighbors or the real intense stuff the Harbingers have.
Likes & Dislikes
Childe doesn't have anything that he won't eat, but this doesn't mean that he won't choose something else when there are choices.
Childe loves his soups and stews, that's for sure. To him, all of them are good, but it's better if seafood is used as the base and is in some of the food as chunks.
He almost always chooses seafood when he's out and about, whether it's grilled, steamed, boiled, fried, or whatever, but if there's none to be had, he'll fall back on meat most of the time.
While he won't be picky about it, he doesn't like eating greens and fruit that much, but if they're flavorful and robust, he'll be more inclined to eat them.
Childe likes to say that he doesn't have a sweet tooth, but despite his honesty in certain areas, he is absolutely lying about this. He just practices an uncharacteristic self-control over it.
Beidou -
Background
Like Childe, there's nothing that Beidou will not eat, but it wasn't because of wintertime or similar circumstances as much as there was simply nothing much to be had. No food is bad food if it's edible.
If she couldn't forage for it, it was likely snatched away from some vendor or passerby that wasn't paying attention, and that's when she wasn't caught.
The moment Beidou had that first bit of cooked fish from some villagers, however, it was an instant connection that would stick for the rest of her life.
If you ask Beidou to cut up a fish, she'll ask you which way as she holds an almost encyclopedic knowledge of fish cuts and preparation.
Due to various circumstances, Beidou taught herself to cook relatively simple meals that could be made on an open fire or with only a few ingredients.
On rare occasions, she would get paid for odd jobs with a decent meal or some food, and this would be rationed for a day or two if it was possible.
Habits
Back in those days, fruits were plucked from trees, things were snatched from stalls, food was salvaged from places, and fish were caught when she got the chance. You ate what you managed to get.
When she eventually got employed by a crew full-time, their rations and meals were what she lived on and ate, so I can't imagine that snacking is something she does.
After eventually coming into her own and gaining a substantial amount of money, she would have plenty of options in terms of what she could eat, but she mostly keeps it simple.
There are a lot of greens and vegetables that she purposely incorporates into her meals for the sake of health and variety to ensure she can operate at full capacity.
You cannot tell me that Beidou did not try everything under the sun upon making landfall in Mondstadt, Inazuma, Sumeru, etc. for the first time.
She had her first drink after her first encounter with Haishan and hasn't stopped since, though it's currently nowhere near to how much she used to drink regularly.
Likes & Dislikes
Like it was said with Childe before, Beidou is not picky with her food. She will eat what is available for her to eat and that's it.
As someone who also willingly subjects herself to Xiangling's new dishes and attempts, she'll eat just about anything that's considered edible.
This does not mean that she does not have preferences; if she's on land and she doesn't have to eat ship rations, she won't, as she'll prefer just about anything else.
She likes foods served warm, which could be grilled, stir-fried, boiled, or anything to do with the heat in the cooking process.
Beidou is nowhere near Yelan's level of eating raw Jueyan chili peppers, but trust that there is a robust amount of spice in her meals.
She's not necessarily a fan of sweets all that much and doesn't like things that are too plain and bland. She also doesn't like things that are cold by design or otherwise unless it's alcohol paired with the meal.
Zhongli -
Background
Before we start off, we must acknowledge that this man has had the time to gather the knowledge and wisdom to cultivate a truly immaculate palette for food.
This, however, does not mean that he always had it and as such, I believe wholeheartedly that before, he ate of the fruit of the trees, the roots of the ground, and the meat of the creatures. Which creatures these were would remain a mystery lost to time.
Marchosius introduced him, the other adepti, and the people of Liyue to the concept of cooking food and as such, he developed a fondness for good food.
Slowly, he learned from Marchosius and the other adepti who had mastered it before him, and so he became quite good at preparing food.
Nowadays in his life as a mortal, he mostly eats out and samples what there is to taste, but he is more than willing to prepare a meal for others and himself.
Habits
Despite him forgetting his wallet, he manages to eat three decently-sized meals a day.
These meals are optimized for nutrition, flavor, and presentation as well as the contents thereof.
If he's not eating food from outside, the prep time of his meals takes no less than three hours at a time.
A good chunk of his paychecks (or the funeral's finances) go towards the food that he buys for himself, as he sources his food from no less than the high-end of what is available.
If he's out and about, he'll buy a snack from one of the vendors in the streets. This could be a chicken skewer, some sweet thing, or a small bowl of fresh fruit.
Food is a very communal experience for him, so it is highly likely that he will strike up a discussion and talk while eating the meal.
Likes & Dislikes
Zhongli is extremely particular about what he eats. He's lived a multitude of lives and knows damn well what he likes.
Anything that comes out of the ocean is getting written off unless it doesn't look like it, and even then it's highly unlikely that he'll put it anywhere near his mouth.
Every meal must be accompanied by tea, juice, or alcohol. If there's water, it must be flavored with something.
Unlike any senior citizen one may associate with him, Zhongli will not stand for anything plain or bland in his food. In his eyes, it defeats the purpose.
He will eat every non-seafood dish from Wanmin Restaurant, but in the case that it's not Wanmin he's eating at, he likes things with a broth or soup base, sandwich-like foods, and hor dourves.
Zhongli isn't opposed to spice, but he doesn't want it to overwhelm the rest of the meal.
Arataki Itto -
Background
If one is to blatantly ignore the in-game model and solely focus on lore, one can come to the conclusion that Arataki Itto is huge, but he was not always that big.
In fact, it can be said that after the fact of his parent's deaths, he was tossed out onto the streets and had his fair share of malnutrition on top of everything else he endured.
As such, he would forage around for food and eat it, regardless of if he could or not, which meant that at a young age, he suffered from allergic reactions to soybeans.
He would also play games and hope to win snacks back in that day as well, but as one would imagine, there were much higher stakes at play than the light-heartedness of the matter today.
Now in the current day, he does get a good fraction of food from this method and the ready accessibility of food in general lends credence to his size.
Habits
The types of food he eats are more things that can be carried in his hands and finger foods as he's on the go and running around.
If he is mostly left to his own devices, there is a higher chance that he will skip meals in favor of whatever he's doing at the time.
As such, he's doing a lot more snacking than actually having a proper meal, much to the consternation of his deputy and the concern of his granny.
One particular thing about Itto is that he more or less acts as if meals are meant to be shared amongst friends more than anything else.
Whether it's lavender melons roasted over a fire, sitting at a ramen cart, standing at a booth in a festival, or just simply being amongst friends with food involved, Itto is definitely happier with people around.
He's naturally inclined to play with his food in a sense, such as competing to see who can eat it the fastest, how much of it he can eat, and things of that nature.
He's also one to share his snacks on the occasion that his typically competitive mood leaves him or he notices that someone is without anything to eat.
Likes & Dislikes
If I haven't brought it up enough, then let me state it clearly: He does not like and cannot eat soybeans.
Even dismissing the blatant trauma associated with the bean in its unrefined form, he will be at risk for a fatality if they're around.
After he was taken in, this was figured out relatively quickly and as such, adjustments to Inazuman staples were made.
As a result, he will eat pretty much anything and occasionally forgets that no, his granny did not make this food and he should check before eating it because there might be soy in it.
Outside of that, he'll eat pretty much anything, but he leans mostly toward sugary sweets, drinks, and big heavy meals.
Ramen is a favorite dish of his and after he was introduced to Almond Tofu, he hasn't had enough of it, but he'll always have a lollipop on him if it isn't already in his mouth.
Bonus! - Headcanons
In the fishing competitions they have, Beidou consistently comes out on top, leaving Childe and Itto to fight over second place. The winner gets to prep the fishy dish how they like.
While Diluc's affinity for mixology and making drinks isn't even brought into question, he prefers cooking to baking.
Itto is not a fan of slime condensate but loves jello and as such, no one will tell him what's in the jello.
If there's one thing Childe won't willingly eat, it's dark chocolate.
Zhongli has compiled a small cookbook with some of the adepti for his own personal use and circulation amongst friends.
Despite being readily willing to try Xiangling's newest culinary creations, Beidou is no stranger to the bouts of her bowels staunchly rejecting the crazier ones.
Diluc has gone hunting for his own food more than once.
The only thing they can agree on in terms of food is that no one in their right mind would eat nothing but bread or rice as a meal.

“Oh, that's normal.”
(I imagine that having a vehicle that's been converted to the Omnitrix's biotech would lead to some awkward moments.)
Behold! What was originally intended as concept art for DoubleDue (Wine Willow), who is the first Pen Ten I've yet drawn. She was one of many who were displaced from their home dimension when Eon cut the BU off from the greater multiverse. Over the course of several years, Pen has lost hope of returning home and has taken to bouncing between dimensions out of need for resources and enrichment. She avoids locations and people that are too familiar, discomforted by the nostalgia, and has submerged herself into the dimension hopping community.
Per the nature of living astray in the multiverse, she has become accustomed to people's personalities and values changing on a dime (as different versions of the same person will be drastically different). She is, thus, untrusting but opportunistic and will present as cheery and amicable. The people who do know her are aware of the superficiality she tends to present and are fully aware that the only reason they get to be close to her is out of practicality or amusement. What fewer know is that she only allows other -ens near her if she absolute, often unseen control over the situation.
From her time trying to get home, she has mapped out various backdoor portals and even managed to find ways to get to dimensions that are generally considered unreachable. Pen was involved in the early efforts to take back territories and technology which Eon had stolen (which she had hoped would get herself home).
When that failed, repeatedly, she took to the slightly less direct, less risky position of a medic. This way she could be close to the fighting, learn about progress, and stock up on resources (such as biotech and downloadable skills). During this time, she got a foothold in a multitude of others' lives and it is how she has managed to remain so connected while also not being in a network. She intentionally caught the Redwood strain of the Vulpimancer transfer factor after having decided it was her best option. This means she has electromagnetic perception, thermoperception, can manipulate magnetism close to her skin (for climbing), and can leave pheromone trails (though that wasn’t relevant to her).
Her pre-Wreckoning disposition was basically canon Ben. Immediately after displacement, she entered a state of urgency similar to Ben in Alien Force (becoming Serious and Spicy). So as to preserve her sanity, she has intentionally swung back to an approximation of her old self, albeit with a quietly predacious and territorial edge. She has stopped feeling loneliness but her lack of true connection is one of the biggest contributors to her state of mind.
Pen now works with Hunters as a part time medic. She does not own a real ID or certificate given her technical lack of citizenship. When confronted by this (such as when pulled over or otherwise confronted by police) she uses guile, pale person privilege, and liberal amounts of persuasion (magic, violence) to be left be.
She has refused to move to any of the camps where other displaced -ens live, first claiming that she didn’t want to tie herself down p when she ‘knew’ she could find a way home. Her reason has eventually become that she won’t go because she would rather live free, under the sky, rather than down in a cave.
DoubleDue is a walking trove of lost media, nicknacks, and forbidden knowledge. She can recount in detail every shortcut and hack the System still has in place, can bypass the drawbacks of backdoor portals, and can even open a few of her own (if the situation allows). She is also not particularly choosy about what she says to who, allowing unfiltered outpours of stories and unwelcome truths to anyone who prompts her. While it is perfectly normal for seasoned dimension hoppers to collect magical tools and alien technology as part of safe travel through portals, most don’t have quite such an expansive (or well researched) arsenal.
She makes her own razz (false flesh) and other biotech out of her motorhome, which is the reason she can house so many items in the first place. Her abdomen and arms are lined with the squishy, fairly unnoticeable implants of inventories.
(Note: Their full first name is “Penelope” and I am undecided on their pronouns but am leaning towards she/her. Her name is unusual because all -ens originating from the BU territories have the given names of Ben, Ren, Jen, Sphen, or Den.

saw this and because I literally never stop thinking about Transformers I immediately realised that in Pharma’s med bay on Messatine, Ambulon was absolutely “the resident”, lmao :’(
I know this because it’s hard to even find panels where he’s not actively working, lol, with the fucked up paint job and everything, look at him
you know he was Having Some Kind of Time through the whole rust plague thing because the entire time he’s been at Delphi he’s just been like “when can I transfer, can I get Pharma to give me a reference, does First Aid know anybody who might be hiring, if I go back to Cybertron is it worth the pay cut, if they ask me for my certifications do those databases even exist anymore”
Tumblr media
I mean technically he was a Ward Manager, but we don’t know how medical career progression works in the TF universe and I always get a distinct “forever resident” vibe from Ambulon (possibly just because life dunked on him so hard), so I’m just gonna stick with that in my own perception of things lmao
also since Ambulon was working under Pharma/alongside First Aid, and we know he went through his Act of Affiliation relatively recently, I wonder how that might have affected his role in any healthcare provision duties... or how previously being not-an-Autobot might have impacted the way he was treated professionally by others, at least at first.
I also wonder about the process of integrating Decepticon and Autobot medics together into non-factional healthcare services after the conflict ended
because oh my god...
holy shit can you imagine what the Reintegration Act post-war was like from the point of view of the fucking medical teams
“hey we’re going to be introducing a few more staff members, check out the new roster”
“thank Primus, we need more people in... wait...HE’S THE BOT WHO KILLED--”
“yeah I know, he got some of mine too. he’ll be on the Cyberpathology Team.”
can you fucking imagine this process!!!!
like we know medical units were a target during the war, as unfortunately they are also often targeted in real life (my dad was an Army medic, I know this to be true)
and enemy medics may well have been asked to advise on any strategic actions against opposing medical units... it’s grim, but that’s war, and Cybertron has no Geneva Convention.
it would have been so fucking rough trying to form a non-factional healthcare system on Cybertron after the war, hooooly shit
thinking about all the possible safeguarding concerns, like the amount of shit that probably went into figuring out how to manage the Reintegration Act in regards to healthcare services must have been next level
I would imagine healthcare/medical services were probably among the last services to fully actually integrate, even if they did start to attempt integration efforts early (if only for the sake of ensuring all Cybertronians regardless of any prior factional allegiance may then feel able to access and obtain care if needed without fear of bias or lingering factional discrimination)
it’s a hell of a situation to have to figure out
I’d imagine they likely had people working in pairs for at least some time while sorting out how to fully integrate in a safe and agreeable way, lmao fuuuuck
(the reason I say that is because when a healthcare worker is suspected of intentionally harming or murdering patients in a hospital, it is often the case that staff will then be made to work in pairs whenever possible for the sake of surveillance until the investigation is concluded. sadly, this is very much a real thing which has happened on some notable occasions.
paired working can also be mandated when a service’s mortality statistics are notably higher than what is expected, typically also as part of a further investigation; it might be only certain staff etc. that are asked to pair up, or depending on the investigative approach, they might bring in externally affiliated observers either as an alternative or in addition to this type of measure. lots of variables, but it’s something that can and has definitely been done in specific situations.
it’s super grim so I won’t go too much more into this, but if you want to know about this kind of shit, check out the Stafford Hospital Scandal and the Stepping Hill Hospital Incident for a couple examples.)
it was probably not a great time for anyone for a good minute or so!!!
circling back around to my original point here though LOL, I truly feel for Ambulon, dude went through nothing but bullshit lmao
anyway, consider this post part of my never-ending campaign to get a canonical Med Bay mini-series of some kind, please just give me Scrubs but with space robots already, god it would be so good

a/n: this story is very heavily inspired by Window Shopping by the lovely Tessa Bailey. I literally cannot consume a piece of media without turning it into a fic about Harry, so here we are! These are the only parts I’m posting on here. The rest will be on Patreon!
Warnings: substance abuse, trauma

Prologue (1)
Ellie
***
It’s crazy how just a few moments can affect the rest of your life. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life, but I’m really trying to be better. Sometimes you have to figure out things for yourself the hard way. I’m the poster child for that, I suppose.
Today’s a really big day for me. In the first time in three years, I actually have a job interview. If all goes well, which I’m really hoping it does, then I’ll be able to stop mooching off my parents. They helped me with the down payment on an apartment, but they can only help with the rent for so long. Plus, I really hate relying on them. They’ve done so much for me, and I want to show them that I can be an adult on my own.
My mom took me to a consignment shop so we could find me some interview clothes. I’m feeling pretty good about myself. Black blazer, sleeveless red blouse, and a black pencil skirt. I’ve got my portfolio, past lesson plans, copies of my certifications, and literally anything I could possibly need to prove that I’m a good fucking teacher.
Not everyone likes teaching eighth graders, but that’s what my specialty is in. I always wanted to teach middle school. I got to, for a little while. Before everything went to shit.
Things are okay now, though, so I’m not going to dwell on it. Dwelling is a step backwards.

Firing and hiring teachers is never easy, but it’s part of the job. I’d rather spend my time applying for grants so my school can have the funding it needs. My teachers think that because I’m part of the administration that means I don’t care about any of them. But I was a teacher myself for a number of years. I know how it goes. I wanted to become a principal so I could start making some real changes to help a larger number of students.
It's not all about budget cuts. Budget cuts are the last resort. I actually end up buying a lot of school supplies myself for the teachers. I declined a pay raise so that my janitorial staff could hire another person. I also did nothing after my super intendent told me to stop them from unionizing. That’s technically illegal, and unions are important. Case closed.
A lot of teaching professionals are leaving to go onto other careers. I get it, I really do. You only get four personal days a year because of all the “free” vacation time we get. You don’t get paid overtime for any of the extra work, so you either burnout or you just stop doing the extra work, which means your students suffer.
Because we need new teachers that we want to have longevity with, we’re offering larger salaries. We were able to get better benefits all around for everyone this last year. We’ve got dental like you’ve never even seen. Also, I helped make sure the pension system stayed intact. Even with all of that, many of the current teachers are upset that they weren’t offered the same salary when they were first hired on. I do all I can to help with raises, but the one drawback of the teacher’s union is that they have fixed raise percentages. It’s a whole thing.
And now, hiring has totally fallen on my shoulders. Usually, I could get a search committee together. I like having a mix of teachers on the committee because I value their input. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get anyone willing to meet off contract over the summer. I don’t blame them, but still, I’m insanely frustrated. So, it’s just me and my staff. The majority of us work remotely over the summer. It’s more cost effective.
We’re on our fourth search of the summer. Our previous sixth grade social studies teacher quit to go work in corporate America. Something about wanting to put their secondary degree in economics to good use. This has been a tough position to fill. Most people with social studies backgrounds prefer to teach at the high school level. Middle school isn’t a ballgame a ton of people are trying to play in.
My secretary, Helen, has been helping me cycle through resumes. We were on zoom late into the evening one night. I asked her to show me some of the candidates that we may have passed over. There was one in particular that I couldn’t understand why Helen didn’t bring her up sooner.
“She has a master’s in curriculum and instruction, and has a certificate in online instructional design. Do you know how valuable that could be if we ever have to go fully remote again? She could host training sessions.” I said to Helen.
“There was a three-year gap on her resume…it was a red flag.”
“Maybe she had a kid or something. Sometimes people have to step away from work for different reasons. We shouldn’t rule this woman out. I’d like to give her an interview.”
“Alright, I’ll send her an email and see if she can come in within the next week. It’ll be good to give her a tour of the school like we did with the other candidates.”
“Agreed, thank you, Helen.”
And so, she set it up. The candidate, Ellie Bishop, will meet with Helen first, then a few other administrators, then me. I want her to have a feel for the school before having to sit down with me.
I get set up in the conference room so Ellie and I can chat in a less domineering environment. Not that my office holds a negative space, but I want to level the playing field a bit. Helen brings her in around 10AM, and my jaw nearly hits the floor. This woman is…wow.
“Principal Styles, this is Ellie Bishop.” Helen smiles. “I’ll be at my desk if you need me.” She leaves, and I make my way over to Ellie to shake her hand.
“Hi, Principal Styles.” Ellie smiles as she shakes my hand.
“Please, call me Harry. It’s nice to meet you, Ellie. Have a seat.”
“Thank you.” She smiles, and sits down. I sit back down as well and watch as she takes out various folders from her bag.
“Did you enjoy the tour?” I ask her.
“Yes, the school is lovely. Although, I’m sure the smell of prepubescent B.O. will be coming back before you know it.”
“Very true.” I chuckle. “The stench usually gets masked by the aroma of Axe Body Spray.”
“Oh, God. I didn’t think kids still used that stuff.” She laughs.
“They think it works like deodorant.” I roll my eyes. “Anyways, I wanted to let you know I was impressed with your CV. You have quite the educational background. You were at another middle school for a couple of years, but then there’s this gap…”
“Yeah.” Her cheeks heat up a little, turning a tinge of pink. “I had to take a few years off for some personal reasons.”
“I figured as much, I’m not judging. But I do need to ask, you’re not a felon, are you?”
“No.” She shakes her head. I was mostly joking, but I can tell she’s getting a little uncomfortable from the way she’s tugging at the sleeves of her blazer. “Can I ask why I got this interview? I was a little surprised, given the gap in experience.”
“Your master’s and certification intrigued me. We had a really tough time when we had to transition into fully remote. If we had someone like you on our team, maybe more of the teachers wouldn’t have felt as lost. We need more tech savvy people here, people who aren’t afraid of 21st century skills.”
“So, it was less about my experience with teaching social studies…”
“Don’t get me wrong, that’s a major plus as well. I mean, that’s what we’re in need of at the moment. Your extra qualifications set you apart from other candidates.” I tell her honestly.
“If I get this job…I’ll have to disclose some things with human resources, right?”
“You only have to disclose what you feel comfortable with, Ellie.”
“No, I mean, they’ll do a background check on me, right?”
“Well, yes, that’s pretty standard.”
“And if something were to come up, I could easily not be offered the job.”
“It depends on what it is. You said you’re not a felon, so as long as you weren’t lying about that, then you should be fine.” I lean forward a little, trying to make my body language a little more comforting. “You don’t have to tell me what it is, but if I know ahead of time, that could be helpful.”
“But what if you’re not going to offer me the job?”
“Full disclosure, Ellie, you’re getting this job. You’re more than qualified, and your references were impeccable. Your previous principal had nothing but good things to say about you.”
“Oh, good.” She smiles with a sigh. “I don’t want to get into too much, but it may come up that I stepped away from work because I went into a private business with my ex-boyfriend. Um, I wasn’t getting paid enough to cover the cost of my master’s, and he was making a ton of money, so I joined him. What he was doing wasn’t totally legal. I got sick from it, um, really sick.” She chews on her bottom lip. I can’t help but look at her mouth. “It may come up that I was in a rehabilitation facility for a while.”
“Wow.” I sit up straight and blink a few times. “Thank you for sharing that with me. That must have been tough.”
“I went so I wouldn’t go to prison. They couldn’t fully prove that I was involved. My parents wanted me to go to rehab anyways, so I figured it would be better to…to detox there with other sick people than around inmates.”
“So, when you said sick you meant-“
“I was addicted to drugs.” She admits. I place my hand over hers and give it a squeeze. “It was an accident. I regret it. I’ve been sober for almost two years now. It’s why I haven’t worked in a school for some time. I was living with my parents after I got out of rehab, and I started off working for my mom. She had me doing some secretarial stuff. I’ve been living on my own for about six months at this point.”
“That’s amazing. You should be proud of yourself.”
“I…I am.” She swallows. My hand is still on hers, but neither of us seem to mind. “I would never dream of putting kids in danger. I take something every day so I don’t have the same craving I used to, and it genuinely helps. It’s how I’ve been able to stay sober. I don’t want to get into more detail than that right now, but I just wanted to assure you that I’m not a danger.”
“Thank you for disclosing that with me. HR definitely would have found out and brought this up to me. I’d like to take a chance on you, Ellie. I think you have some great potential. We could start you off on a probationary contract, for the year, and then go through a formal review process to see if renewing your contract makes sense.”
“Would I still be getting paid the advertised salary?”
“Definitely.” I nod, and take my hand away from hers. “You have your master’s, you should get paid for that.” I smile. “Helen will give you more details, and will email you all the paperwork you’ll need to fill out.” I extend my hand to her again to shake.
“Thank you so much, Harry.” She beams and shakes my hand. “You have no idea what this means to me. I promise I won’t let you down.”

Yesterday and possibly the day before’s gameplay progress because I forgot to make a post yesterday and I’m not sure if I made one the day before:
I made it to level 90 as a summoner!!! And also scholar, technically, but it’s not as if I’ve ever actually played as that. Due to having gotten so many pieces of level 90 gear from my retainers going on quick explorations, I’m already at an average item level of 560 as both classes, which is second only to the 565 I have as a dancer (and the 620 as a weaver, technically, but that one isn’t a combat class)! Not bad considering I don’t have access to any level 90 content yet, haha =P
I now only have black mage and reaper left to level out of the main classes I’ve been focusing on (I think they’re both level 88, perhaps even approaching 89), and I can still use the main story to level both of them quite effectively, which is both exciting and somewhat unfortunate in terms of feeling like I’m wasting that story quest experience once I do get to the level cap.
Now that I’ve reached level 90 as a caster class, though, I can finally wear my ornate rinascita jacket of casting that I’ve had for literal months thanks to Wondrous Tails certificates! This inspired me to make a fancier summoner glamour - but I’m still very attached to the demon skirt + caller’s sandals combination that I’ve been wearing as a summoner for so long now, so I ended up spending a long time in glamour hell trying things out to reach a happy medium.
Tumblr media
This is what i eventually ended up going with - I like to think it still works as a top half that can be worn with the bottom half! I think I’ll save the rinascita coat for when I reach level 90 as a black mage, since it fits Lorenza’s princess/royalty theme very well, but I am at least still wearing it right now as far as others see in the game, which is neat.
Anyway, where were we?
Regarding the story, I’m currently at the first level 86 quest, and part of me is tempted to try and make a lot of progress over this weekend, so I can get through it in bigger chunks. I think I might be able to do it all in one weekend if my Shadowbringers progression was anything to go by, but it would be very dependent on cutscene length - I’m just quite aware of how the story will start to pick up the pace, and so I don’t want to have to stop playing due to time constraints at a point where it doesn’t feel right to pause the plot, if that makes sense.
I really need to start bringing red mage up through the levels as well, I’ve realised. And maybe machinist, but I don’t really remember how to play as that at this point, even if it is level 70. In theory it might make sense to try and push to level 86 as a red mage and then let the story bring it the rest of the way, but that would mean both a lot of level grinding and also having to delay story progression. If nothing else, at least I can use it for levelling up the Trust avatars, since I haven’t really touched that system yet!
In terms of weekly things.. I’m still working on my Wondrous Tails for this week, and I went to the Doman enclave to hand in donations only to get completely distracted by glamour stuff (as you can see by where I’m standing in that screenshot from before), so.. I need to actually sort that next time I log on, haha.

hi soup! do you have any ocs? if so, do you wanna tell us about them? :-D
buddy, you don't know the can of worms you've opened/pos
Here's a brief overview:
(unnamed) - Big shot lawyer who specializes in contract negotiations during business mergers. Sharp, angular man. Very tall, very thin, wears expensive suits. In his mid 50s- early 60s. Chain smoker, but really wishes he could settle down with a nice cigar once in a while. Very bitter and sarcastic. He has, after all, spent almost twenty years dealing with capitalism and all its ills up close. Highly prized in the world I've created, because a large portion of the magic world involves similar contracts and deals. Suspicious of magic users and does his best to stay away from them. Unfortunately, he didn't expect to start nursing a crush on Theophilus, nor did he intend to start viewing Io as his kid as well.
Theophilus (Call him Phil, or he gets mad) - Bootleg potion maker. You need a potion that will let you stay awake for a week, or will make you feel like you've gotten a full night's rest, but can't afford the real thing? Talk to him. His potions are good - he knows all the right, cheaper substitutes and 'generics'. Hard worker, spends almost all his free time down in the lab filling orders for people, when he isn't teaching magic. Had his potion making licence revoked because he wouldn't stop trying to cut deals with people and get people their medications for cheap. His stuff is safe, he tests batches on himself, but it is technically illegal so you don't want to be caught with his goods. Early to mid thirties. Wears cheap and loose fitting clothes, hoodies are his favorite. His clothes are permanently stained with ingredients and splattered liquid from his cauldrons. Casual attitude, fairly easy going unless it's about the safety of his potions or the safety of his adopted kid. Has a very obvious crush on (unnamed), and flirts with him constantly.
Io (Not her real name. She's looking for her birth certificate) - Around twelve years old. Very quiet, studious, and suspicious of other people. Phil's adopted kid. She's got a lot of magic ability, but her control is limited due to her young age and upbringing. Before she was adopted by Phil, she was apprenticed to a demon lord. Still in recovery from this in many ways. She was trained by this demon lord to be a perfect apprentice- obedient, silent, intensely focused. It came at a high cost. Learning to be a kid again, but it's quite difficult. She wears the same clothes every day. A purple hoodie that's been enchanted with various protective runes, inscribed in gold all over the front and back. Her special ability is her empathic powers. This is less of a "I sense sadness." while someone is hysterically crying one room over, and more a keen sense of intuition and and understanding of the worst parts of human nature. She senses other people's emotions as if they were her own, and has a really hard time balancing her own personality and not integrating other personalities into her head. In this world, empaths are not born, they are made by experimentation.
'Mal' (Short for Malkieck) - Demon lord. Very tall, very buff, red skin, the whole package. Not all demons in this world are bad news, but he definitely is. Trains magic users up to be obedient soldiers, then sells them off to the highest bidder. Part of a big chain to create soldiers for armies in wars that never end. Experimented on Io to turn her into an empath because they are very good at picking up on the next attack an enemy is going to make and therefore have a high survival rate. Raised Io until she was about eight, before she escaped with Phil's help. Very upset that one of his 'prized possessions' got away. Continually looking for her and Phil, meaning they have to move around a lot.
A bit more detail for those who've read this far.
Everyone's Flaw
(unnamed) - Thinks things he doesn't understand are gross and weird.
Theophilus - toxic positivity, wants everyone to be happy to everyone's detriment.
Io - Trusts absolutely no one, even when it would be better or easier to trust them.
Mal - Will never, ever understand what he's doing is wrong, no matter how many times someone explains it to him.
These are my 'core four', of the big story I want to tell.

Choosing the right college for you:
I've found that it is incredibly hard vetting through all the choices of colleges out there in US, figuring out what all the technical terms are and deciding what's the best choice for you personally. I don't know everything, but let me explain as much as I can though. First things first...
Definitions & Basic Explanations:
Accreditation: Accreditation is the recognition from a private accrediting agency that an institution maintains a certain level of educational standards
To go to an accredited college means that you get access to federal financial aid, you get the ability to transfer credits, and-most importantly-means that you'll able to get a degree that is recognized in whatever field you're going into.
There are 3 different accreditations available:
National
Regional
Specialized
Nationally Accredited: roughly 15% of colleges are nationally accredited. Colleges that under this accreditation are usually trade or vocational schools, and are mostly for-profit.
Regionally Accredited(src): This accreditation is considered the more prestigious option. The US is divided by 7 different geographically based companies (with an extra 4 that focus on vocational/comm schools as well). Most non-profit schools will be regionally accredited.
Specialized Accreditation(src1)(src2): while national and regional accreditation covers institutions as a whole, specialized accreditation covers certain professional schools and individual educational programs.
(accreditation database)
While there are other types of colleges that I won't be defining, there are three that I'd like to mention;
Community colleges
Public colleges
Private colleges
Community College: this type is usually thought of as a two-year college, offering considerably cheaper tuition rates comparably. Usually offers associate degrees and vocational certifications, but currently there are 22 states that allow community colleges to offer 4 year undergraduate programs(src).
Public College: This is a 4-year university that is funded through the government instead of tuition costs. Usually costs less than private college, but still offers a wide networking community and a lot of student resources.
Private College: This is a 4-year university as well, but it is funded through tuition, donations, and other resources besides government funding. This tends to be the highest costing of the three options, and it's harder to get federal scholarships/grants. It does still offer networking communities though a long with a ton of student resources.
(src)
There is also one last distinction you should look at when applying for colleges, and that is non-profit/profit schools.
Non-profit: This applies to a college that does not have any shareholders to pay back investments. All of the money that these types of schools are paid, goes directly back into funding the college.
For-profit: This term applies to schools that have investors and shareholders to pay money to outside of the college. These schools usually have higher acceptance rates, higher tuition rates, and are usually trying to rake up as much money as they can no matter the detriment to their students.

Throughout this post I've included a bunch of related links to get you started in looking for the right college for you, so I was going to make a second part, but I've also realized in terms of on-campus tips I have none for anyone (I've done exclusively online). So without further ado, good luck!

P.S. College isn't always the best option for people and that's okay

this got really long but I’ve been thinking about the superhero genre and how the themes that usually go with that are inverted and reflected in bnha and how fuckin fascinating that is?!?!? like!
technically it still falls within the parameters of the genre in that it has superheroes who fight villains, but it’s twisting and flipping things on its head and making it so different than most of the other superhero media. the biggest thing is that superheroes are so integrated into society that they’re a part of the government. they’re an actual profession that requires certification and licensing and a whole assload of paperwork to be “legal.” but the interesting thing is that traditionally, the superhero genre is defined by vigilantism: forgoing laws in favor of the greater good; the “good guys” in the story break the law and go against authority (like the police) to help people in ways that nobody else can. and in bnha, with the acceptance of heroes in modern society, that aspect of the genre just casts more light on the society as a whole because the superheroes started as vigilantes but as time went on they were slowly accepted by laws and the government. and now, if a well-meaning but unlicensed hero started capturing villains and doing what the original heroes did, the pros would take him down. their ancestors and predecessors were vigilantes, but now they’re the farthest thing from it. maybe they mean well and are genuinely trying to do their jobs right and protect people, but the fact remains that if the heroes from both time periods were brought face to face, they’d likely be on opposite sides.
and hero killer: stain adds an ENTIRE new strain of thinking into the mix! he’s a mass murderer who specifically targets pro heroes, but there’s more to that. he isn’t targeting and slaughtering them at random, he’s specifically sifting through their ranks and weeding out the ones he believes to be unworthy. this is so interesting to me because stain holds everyone to a high standard of heroism. he believes heroes shouldn’t be paid for their work, or made to be celebrities. he thinks they should be more like the original superheroes were: vigilantes who do what they do to protect people, not for a paycheck. and I find myself agreeing with him!
positions of power have always attracted the people who most want to abuse that power, and I can’t see any reason why this would be different. in fact, the allure of being able to use their powers almost indiscriminately and not be questioned would probably, in my mind, make the hero profession even worse. maybe the pro hero origins started out in the right place, but now I feel like it has the potential to become a bigger and even more dangerous police force. the fact that the “force” of heroes are broken up into individual agencies probably helps keep corruption from the whole, but I’m positive there would be entire agencies that are corrupted.
and the ranking system!!!!! I understand why it’s a thing because internet society is just Like That, but I can’t deny that the ranking system also has a lot of potential to create the “fake heroes” stain hates so much. endeavor is actually a perfect example of this! he’s trying so hard to be the highest ranking hero that he goes to extremes to ensure that. and when it becomes clear that he’ll never surpass all might, he starts setting plans into place to have his kids surpass him. it isn’t even about being #1 for him anymore, it’s about having someone surpass all might, and having that someone be directly connected to him so he still gets some of the glory. I highly, highly doubt endeavor is the only one, because that society puts so much importance on the ranking system and how other heroes measure up to each other.
all that said, hero killer: stain is also interesting because at his core he’s what the superhero genre is usually about: he’s a vigilante. obviously I don’t condone what he does, because we know he’s killed/incapacitated many heroes who, despite what he thought of them, were actually very good at their jobs and were in the profession because they genuinely wanted to be there. and also ya know mass murder isn’t great. but despite all that I think stain’s character is so fascinating because the arguments he raises are all valid ones. in that society, what’s to stop all might from beating down on the very people he’s supposed to protect? what’s to stop endeavor from unleashing his flames on a peaceful protest? we know there are laws in place to prevent that, and we also know that all might would never do something like that, and even endeavor probably wouldn’t, but what if they got an order from the government? hero agencies answer to the government of their country so what if they were ordered to do things like that? some heroes would refuse, I think, but not all of them. and even if they weren’t ordered by the government, there’s still nothing to stop them from brutality! all might is so astronomically powerful, it’d take an entire agency of pro heroes to take him down in his prime. maybe even more. if that guy decided to throw his weight around and abuse his power, who’d be able to stop him??
I just *clenches fist* the superhero genre is already so fascinating and bnha just makes it even deeper

hiya, i'm an 18 y/o who's disabled, and i'm thinking of becoming an au pair or nanny. i don't have much experience however and i'm worried that will lead ppl 2 count me out. i'm wondering what kinda experience u gained b4 starting in ur job, and any advice u might have? thank u xo
hi! when i started it out i was a little younger than you are but not much and the way i found clients was just telling literally everyone in mine my family + my friends parent’s social circles that i was a babysitter. if you belong to a church or any kind of community org that’s even better you can ask to put up a flyer or again just let ppl know. even if they don’t have kids themselves everyone knows someone who has a kid you know. if you have ever taken care of a child before in your life - counting family members - you have technically been a babysitter! an easy way to get around lack of experience is affinity bcus both are about trust. a person saying ‘oh you need a babysitter? i know anon i can put you in touch with them’ is about the same impact as saying on an internet ad ‘i have x years of experience and can provide references’. and absolutely 0 insult intended to your childcare abilities but in terms of ease of getting started. frankly people are kind of less strict about who they let watch their kids than i would think they would be esp when things are kind of last minute and once you’re in as long as you don’t do anything catastrophic you’ll be in their roster of like people they can call for childcare and they will also hopefully start recommending you to their friends!
i would recommend getting a first aid certification if you don’t have one because it’s an easy way to show you’re serious. the last time i took it i think it was about $100, it may be less in other countries! if clients ask about experience you take literally any time you took care of a child and just expand it a little. obviously don’t full out lie but you can say oh i’ve taken care of kids as favors before and i enjoyed it so i wanted to start doing it to earn some money. try and focus on non sibling care if you can or if you ever did anything like tutoring younger kids or really anything at all that shows you like interacting with kids that’s something to bring up. also be as available as possible like in my experience when people know that you’re most likely going to answer they think of you first when they need someone. + once you have like at least 3 clients you have good relationships with those are your references and that’s a good start to applying to more full time/regular childcare. this is definitely not the only way to get started but it’s what i did and i think it gave me a space to build up my confidence in what i could do before like overcommitting myself, and i liked the freedom it gave me to kind of run my ‘business’ on my own terms. there are lots of babysitter groups on facebook and reddit and other forums where you can find people with different experiences to get a fuller idea of your options!
the one thing i will say is be little wary of study or work abroad au pair programs. i never was part of one but i got to know people who were and more than once they told me that it wasn’t what they had been expecting or told it would be by the program and that the program didn’t provide the support they needed. i’m sure this isnt universal but i’ve seen that that system is a little exploitative and it’s good idea to really do your research as much as possible.
good luck and if you have any other questions i can try to answer them! i will be rooting for you ❤️❤️

ugh so we can see our assignments in the employee portal but it has a placeholder number for the number of items to scan until we get the actual list on Wednesday, right? So I see that I have the usual assignment, another one that looks to be a similar assignment but for all I know could be another one of those massive ones, and an assignment of a type I haven’t done before with no real number attached bc you scan Literally Everything
So I check my email today and thankfully the first two are pretty average sized, but this last one is “scan literally everything in the sections you’re assigned unless this list tells you not to.” and also I was told I have to schedule a time to meet up at the store so someone can show me the ropes for that one. which is GREAT bc I’d much rather do that than stumble around a bit like some of the other job types I haven’t been 100% sure of but also. I gotta try to schedule a time to meet up with someone while still working around my brother’s schedule
also there’s a couple (albeit small) certification tests I gotta do that I think are just “do you know the lingo and what to enter for x scenario yet?” but still. I was TRYING to relax here.
they’re also not due for a week and it’ll probably be a good idea to wait until after I get the training for this job type to take them bc that’ll help reinforce what I should already know and/or teach me some things I didn’t know or wasn’t sure of that these tests might ask about. but also they’re gonna haunt me until I do ‘em
side note the deadlines thus far have always been 11:59pm on Saturday (I’ve said I’m not available on Saturdays and while I could technically work Saturday nights, who’d WANT to? What it really ends up meaning is I gotta get all my Saturday shit done on Friday) or 11:59pm Sunday, so Monday and Tuesday are basically my weekend.  and given this week I mean I guess it’s better that fucking Everything goes wrong on the days I’m not busy but it also means I didn’t really get a break.  Which is again part of why I’m taking today off
I’m kinda complaining a lot but I do actually like this job significantly more than the bakery, it’s mostly just getting used to going from baby training amounts of work to suddenly 3-4 jobs a week
also how tf am I supposed to discreetly check out cigarette prices at Walmart. they’re always in one checkout lane behind the cashier and I mean it’s probably not always open so I could go when no one’s working it but. There’s no guarantee that’ll happen while I’m working and it’d still look pretty sus.         then again I once spent like 10 minutes just staring at one of the little gum displays by one of the many, many closed checkout lanes so.    At least no one bothered me while I was trying to look like a bewildered boyfriend when I had to go get tampon/pad prices.
that said I’m definitely giving off Retail Worker Vibes™ because like 4-5 people have come up to me for help and I mean obviously I help them if I can but like. Do I Look Like I’m Wearing A Blue Employee Vest. (no)
also also I finally got wireless earbuds so try and drown out the incessant Walmart radio blaring Christmas songs, but I really need to download more of my playlists bc my Chanukah one is already starting to get kinda stale and it ain’t a short playlist              at least by my standards, idk how long most people’s playlists are but this one’s got 90 songs and maybe I’ll add a few more as people start making more for this year
