Never Took The Time (To Forgot) part 4.1 : With a Capital 'P'
Part 4.2 (Hey Dingus? Idk, the title for that one is up in the air.) will be up as soon as I have it somewhere I like (doing a different character's pov instead of Hop so it's giving me some trouble). Felt really bad that I hadn't updated in a while and this one was getting longer than I expected and I hadn't even gotten Robin really talking yet so... Happy Valentine's Day?
Part 1 (Hop Fucks Up), Part 2 (Pride and Prejudices: Joyce Edition), Part 3 (One of Us)
Family Video and the Arcade were two of the few businesses still operating after the inter-dimensional earthquakes that had tried tearing their town to pieces. Hop knew the kid who used to run the place for his uncle, Keith, had split town with his folks (said uncle in tow) leaving the store and arcade in the care of whatever employees had been willing to stay on payroll while the world fell apart.
He watches as Harrington's (more banged up than never remembers it being) car stops in front of the video store, parked parallel to the curb across at least 3 parking spots, as a wildly gesticulating Robin rolls herself out of the idling vehicle, jabbering loud enough that Hop can hear her voice from down the block. With most cars owned by the folks of Hawkins being commandeered by Owens' government goons to fill the gaps left by lost military vehicles it doesn't much matter but Hop can't help a bit of an eye roll at the kid's audacity.
But then again, he catches himself thinking, Steve was one of the only 'civilians' in-the-know and was well-known for carting around and protecting proven assets to the War Of The Worlds shitshow going on. So was there really an issue if the kid was one of the only cars on the road anyway and because he was even more read-in on the situation than even local law enforcement? If he was not only transporting and protecting people the government had a vested interest in but had proven himself more effective than even Hop and Joyce in wrangling the kids who had basically been saving the world for the last 4 years? If he kept them safe and out of harm's way in the thick of it but also kept them entertained and out from underfoot during the downtime?
Hell, the kid being one of the only employees left at some of the last businesses in town these brats would have any interest in almost guarantees the whole lot of them are continuously stocked in movies, snacks and quarters to distract them from even the most world shaking of calamities.
It hadn't occurred to him until just now what it meant for The Party that Steve and Robin seemed to be the only ones willing to hang around behind the counter at the arcade and sell and rent movies to shell-shocked townsfolk and tight-lipped government goons alike. Fuck, Lucas and Mike were right. He was an asshole.
He's pulled out of the slow spiral of realizing Mike Wheeler of all people had been right about something by Steve hollering one last "Love you, Bobby!" at a grinning and waving Buckley as she flung open the video store door and stumbled inside. He waits for the car and it's driver to round the corner before he gets out of his own government-issued station wagon. Fuck but he missed his truck.
"Welcome to Family Video, I literally just got here so you're gonna have to give me a minute before I can help you."
"I'm uh, I'm not here for a movie." He can tell she recognizes his voice (and it's a little impressive how quickly she clocks him since he's spoken only a couple words anywhere near her maybe twice in his memory. Girl has a good ear) from the way her entire body stills for a split second before whirling back into the hurricane of motion he's come to associate with her.
"Afraid we've only got movies round here, officer. You want any other medium of entertainment I'd suggest the arcade or the distribution yard." She's still not looking at him, hands busy shuffling papers and flipping open VHS cases. "Sorry, guess we'll have to catch up another time."
Hop sighs, running a hand over the short growth he's slowly getting used to again. He'd almost shaved it down again but El had been so happy when she'd realized they were growing out at about the same rate. He couldn't ever say no to her.
"Look, I know you don't like me. And it has been brought to my attention just how much I fucking earned that. But I- I need your help here, to fix it."
The flurry of movement doesn't stop but it's tighter, she's fiddling with something shoved up her shirt sleeve and tapping at the casing of a button connected to a wire leading into her green vest. Bright blue eyes are focused on him and he's almost reminded of the no-nonsense look Nancy Wheeler gets whenever they're faced with the world ending, but the girl in front of him is colder. He has no doubts that where Nancy Wheeler would tear down giants for what she believed is right, Robin Buckley would burn the world if it meant saving her people.
"Fine. He'll be back from his patrol-" He didn't remember assigning a patrol schedule and he's not sure if this is Steve's own initiative or if he's been roped into something by Owens' people. "in about twenty minutes. You have fifteen. Now why should I help you?"
The tag list below. Let me know if you want to be removed or if you go by a new/different tag you want on the list let me know which one I'm replacing and what I'm replacing it with please.
I've had some people ask to be tagged in this series who should already be in the list? If you see your name/tag but didn't get the notification that you were tagged please let me know so we can figure it out.

hey could I request a blurb for dbf! hopper where he calls reader whenever he needs help with eleven? love your blurbs!
OUR GIRL | J.H.
word count: 1k
warnings: I made this nanny!reader x dbf!hopper, hope that's okay, age gap obviously, reader is in their twenties. giggles terribly because I love him so much- also the gif??? ignore the blood though
summary: hopper asking you to come over after eleven and mike broke up
Tumblr media
You were sitting with your back against the wall, Eleven gripping her pillow tightly though her head was settled in your lap, your fingers digging through her hair in an attempt to calm her down. When Hopper called claiming he was having trouble with her attitude you'd expected to come over to settle a little pre-teen-encouraged spat, what you found, however, was a girl trying to cope with her first breakup.
"Ellie, I'm so sorry," you hummed, the girl moving further into your lap, looking up at you with the saddest brown eyes and absolutely breaking your own heart in the process. "Boys suck," was your simple reply, and though Hopper was stuck in the hall, not allowed in but obviously peaking through the half-closed window, he offered a little nod in agreement.
You'd been the designated nanny for all the kids in town, getting first-hand information about all the latest couples and crushes and you'd sworn to give Mike Wheeler a hiding at his full pre-teen age if he so much as caused a frown on the little Hopper's lips. She was special to you, always the best company if you had to finish an assignment when watching her, helping you with dinner when Jim was working late and it didn't help at all when you and Jim ended up in your complicated little love affair, you'd rearrange the whole town for her before, you'd wipe out the whole world for her now.
"Dad said so too," she sighed and you couldn't stop yourself from pulling her up into a hug, knowing she'd long outgrown being sat up in your lap to be coddled when sad but it was awful hearing her cry like this and she clearly didn't mind, nuzzling her head into your chest with a few sniffles. "Said he'd beat Mike up if I wanted, I didn't," you had to smile, looking up to the door knowing Jim was there, knowing he'd catch your eyes and shrug.
"You can still change your mind," the man noted, and when he pushed his head through the open space both you and Eleven shook your head, sharing a knowing look before reaching a hand out to beckon him over.
"Come on in, old man," you breathed.
"Dad," she groaned and peaked up from where she'd been engulfed in your, Jim's, sweater, letting him take her hand despite her pride, managing a little smile when you squeezed her one more time. "Not cool."
"Listen, Ellie," you stepped in, guiding her to look at you, smoothing some hair from her face and dotting away the wetness under her eyes. "Not all boys are trouble, you know, despite what your dad says, but do you maybe want to wait a little longer before trying the whole dating thing again?" she nodded quickly, if this is how bad Mike, her friend, could make her feel then she had zero interest in any other boys.
"No more boys, ever," she concluded and Hopper was very pleased with that, a wide smile dipping into his lips and earning him a warning raised brow from you. "Except for Dad," she added and made both you and Jim laugh lightly. "He's a good one, that's why he's your boyfriend," she explained and wiped her cheek dry, shrugging as if it was all very self-explanatory.
"He is a good one," you agreed, happy that she was no longer crying, clearly still sad but no longer needing the extra cuddles you had planned for later.
"Do all boys break your heart?" the purest little question, Hopper looked to you to answer, this entire conversation was not for him because he could swear she was just his little El yesterday and now she's talking about boys.
"Not all of them, not the good ones," she moved to sit next to you, a little yawn slipping from her lips, tired from all the crying and the long day and the drama that was sure to come, so you brushed a hand up and down her back, an old habit from when she struggled to fall asleep. "Your dad would never," you were looking at him, smiling just as widely as he was, it was something to behold, such a silly little gesture but it was true, Jim Hopper would protect your heart for as long as he could and you knew that for sure.
"Okay, so I just need to find a good one then, like Dad," Eleven yawned again and you nodded for Hopper to meet you in the hallway, slipping out from your little corner and holding onto the girl's hand as she moved to lay down, sighing happily as you draped her with a blanket, tucking her in just as you usually do.
"You don't have to worry about that now though, you know, just stay our little Ellie for a little while longer, won't you?" you crouched down to be at her level, smiling at her sleepy state and she giggled lightly at your comment.
"I'll try," she mumbled and you kissed her forehead, booped her nose, and squeezed her hand three times just like you'd do when she fell back asleep after a bad nightmare. "I love you, blueberry," she breathed, eyes closing, heart already asleep but mind fighting it just for a few seconds.
"I love you too, pancake," and you did, she wasn't yours, not even slightly but you loved her like she was, like you'd been a part of her life forever, and in special moments like these it felt like you were. "We need to have a little word with Wheeler," you announced tiptoeing into the kitchen where Jim was already making you a cup of cocoa, silently bribing you to stay a little longer.
"We can meet him in the alley," he scoffed and you were drawn to him without any control, melting into his back as you snaked your arms around his waist. "Thank you for coming to talk to our girl," he sounded shy in the statement, busying himself by putting too much sugar in the mug Eleven got you for your birthday, she'd painted it herself and admittedly it looked awful but it was your favourite thing in the world.
"Our girl," you breathed and the words sounded so perfect to your ears, tasted like home on your lips. "We do make a good team though, don't we?"
"The best," he lifted one of your hands from his waist, squeezing it three times, kissing it softly, holding it tight. "You staying the night?"
"Will you help me study if I do?" he wouldn't, he'd distract you long enough for you to cave and cuddle but you had an extra day to study anyway so you'd risk it.
"Of course, I will," he reached a hand around and patted your butt gently, completely contradicting his words. "No distractions, no kisses until you're done," you giggled, kissing the space between his shoulder blades and you didn't need to see his smirk to know it was there, hand not showing any signs of moving.
"Liar."

LOVING where you’re going with Bug and Steve’s story so far. Looking forward to the next chapter🥰
I have a blurb idea!! What about Bug’s reaction to Dustin being sad at the Snow Ball when all the girls said no to him🥲and her reaction to Nancy dancing with him.
Ps. Sorry I meant to send this as an ask the first time my b😅
thank youuuu <3 n i so wanted to add this scene in but the chapter was already 20k words and i simply couldnt but YES i will happily elaborate on this
enjoy <3
"should i go and dance with him?" you ask nancy, nervously fidgeting with your fingers as you watch dustin, all alone with his head ducked in shame as he stands in the corner and watches his peers. since arriving, hes been rejected again and again by the girls at the dance.
nancy bites her lip, unsure herself what to do. "youre his sister, i think it might make it worse if you dance with him." she confesses with a sigh.
you both watch as dustin walks towards the bleachers in defeat, and it takes everything within you not to run after him. his shoulders are shaking, you know hes holding back tears. he had been so excited for tonight, and now he sits all alone, once again beaten down by peers who have no idea what hes done for them. dustin henderson is a hero, hes saved hawkins, and yet hes treated like a freak.
he deserves the entire world.
"thats it," you cant take it anymore. youre dustins sister, hes your baby brother, how can you be expected to stand as watch as he gets his heart broken? "im gonna go dance with him-"
"no!" nancy grabs your hand to stop you.
you pull at your wrist, annoyed and hurt that she expects you to do nothing as dustin cries. "hes my brother, screw whatever those stupid kids say-"
"i'll dance with him."
you gape at nancy, unsure if you heard her correctly. "you... what?"
"here," she hands you the punch ladle and then wipes her hands, a smile on her face as if this is a regular occurance for her. she fixes her hair, straightens out her dress, and then takes a deep breath. "i remember his crush he used to have on me. figure its time to apologize for how mean i was."
and then nancy leaves. you stare at her, still in complete shock, as she approaches your brother. they exchange words, and you cant help but laugh at how shocked dustin looks as well. nancy takes his hands and marches him confidently through the crowd of preteens and places dustins hands around her waist and they begin to dance.
a few girls sneer at nancy and dustin, which you secretly preen at. serves them right for being little monsters towards your brother. you understand that being twelve is a horrid age, but dustin doesnt deserve their bitterness.
nancy says something that makes dustin bashful and he giggles. his tears have long since dried, and you watch them with fondness. a year ago you envied nancy wheeler and resented her beauty and grace. now, shes dancing with dustin and sending you a wink as he spins her around. time is weird, but youre immensely happy that you somehow ended up here.
you look around the gym. will is with a girl with a nervous smile on his face as they dance together. nancy and dustin are giggling to themselves. max and lucas are shy as they slow dance, and without meaning to, you watch as they have their first kiss. its a short, simple peck, and lucas blushes like crazy, and your heart soars.
somehow, within the five years youve known them, the kids grew up right before your eyes.
then you see mike, and you do a double take when you see that hes with el. shes in a beautiful dress, her hair is done, and she even seems to have some makeup on. you look behind you and see hopper standing outside in the parking lot, smoking a cigarette with joyce, and the two of them share their own laugh. its been a while since you last saw joyce smile, same with the chief, and something warm fills within you. love is weird, and you couldnt be happier that the ones closest to you get to experience it.
as your eyes roam the room, they somehow find jonathans. they always find jonathan.
he points to nancy and dustin and shakes his head, laughing. he knows that your brother will hold this over his head for the next week, but hes happy the kid is having a good night. you giggle, knowing what hes thinking, and shrug your shoulders. itll be a problem for jonathan tomorrow, but tonight you both watch as the girl and young boy dance the night away. both your hearts are warm, each of you feel a deep love for the girl in this moment, and you both marvel at how lovely nancy wheeler is.
as you watch, something tugs at your chest and begs you to turn around. you do, and see steves car slowly driving away from the middle school.
your lips tingle, still feeling his cheek against them. your skin will never forget the feel of his. your promise still lingers on your tongue.
take all the time you need.
time is weird.
so is love.
and youre all the luckier for it.

Okay so
Will x Gareth. A.k.a greatwise
Brain is going brrrrr with them rn, i hope this makes sense.
First encounter
• Will comes back to Hawkins and realizes there is a d&d club now that doesn't have a DM anymore because Eddie graduated (because he did, we don't accept the last episode in this account thank u very much).
• So on the first day of school, everyone in the table are discussing about what they're gonna do now without Eddie, and my sweet child raise his hand with shyness like: "I can plan a campaign if you all want to-". And Gareth is fucking excited because neither him, Jeff or freak #1 (which i decided to named Frank because that dude doesn't have a name) make great campaigns, and Mike doesn't make them anymore since season 2, so he's curious and has high expectations because Dustin talked about Will the entire time BECAUSE HE'S A GREAT PERSON AND HE DEFINITELY WORSHIP HIS BESTIE IN FRONT THE ENTIRE HELLFIRE CLUB.
• So Will is fucking nervous because he want to impress them, especially 'cause even if Mike is his best friend, they're growing apart and he know is not the same anymore, so this is his oportunity to make more friends in high school, Will doesn't want to ruin it.
• So he spends all his free time writing it, having Eddie's help of course, but Eddie doesn't have the entire information about it because he's gonna be part of the first session and Will want to impress him too.
• But sweet Will doesn't understand the concept of have some rest and he starts to fall asleep on class, which unfortunately for him and perfect for the plot, made him walk down the last room at the end of the day for detention.
• You will not guess who's also there.
• Is Gareth, ofc, my boy ended there for the third fight of the week, and it's Tuesday.
• He's on the last desk of the classroom playing with his pencils like they're drumsticks. He also has an ugly injury on the lip for the fight, and he has that bitch face who make everyone around him avoid any near seat.
• But Will is relieved for a familiar face, especially because he's in Hellfire club so maybe he can bond the time talking about the campaign (and definitely he'll talk about the subject to make notes about what they're expecting).
• So he sits right next to Gareth, who didn't reacted because he was more focused on remember the "master of puppers" drum solo than the other poor soul trapped in detention too.
• "Another fight?". Will asks, trying to look friendly, he almost regret it because Gareth turn around annoyed by the interruption, but Emerson smiles brightly when he realizes is the new kid.
• He explains the reason of the fight was another person insulting the Hellfire club, naming them a cult especially because they told that now was complete because the "zombie boy" joined and that somehow sounded like the human sacrifice all cults needs to.
• Gareth is upset when he's telling it and Will would be sad if he was focused on it, but he's more shocked because they barely know each other, the only thing they have in common is the Hellfire club and that both goes to the same school, they are not even in the same grade and he wasnt there with the upside down combo so no trauma-bonding. So why he got into a fight to defend him?
• Gareth of course realizes the silent he's inmersed into, and missinterpret it like he's affected about it, so he tries to cheer him. "Don't pay attention, they're douchebags who wouldn't recognize greatness even if it punched on their faces, I know, I tried".
• Will just smiles, "did you just made a pun with your nickname, Gareth the great?".
• They spend the rest of the detention talking and they realize how much they have in common. The d&d is just the surface of the iceberg, because they also share similar music taste, and that my dudes and duddetes and everything in between is a new world for them.
• Will only had Johnathan to talk about it before, and Gareth's taste is slightly different than the rest of Corroded Coffin, he's interested in metal of course, but he likes rock a little bit more. And Will starts to ramble about the his especial vinyl collection on his house.
• "no way, Queen? Do you have the newest already?" Will tell him how he made Argyle and Johnathan stay with him outside the music shop one day before to be the first one to adquire it.
• "You can go at my house if you want to".
• "Sure! Give me your address".
• Will opens a notebook to write in it and his sketchbook falls, Gareth immediately bend down to grab it but the sketchbook is opened at the middle and he cannot avoid to look at it.
• "Did you draw this?"
• Will is embarrased, first of all because that's a David Bowie portrait with pencil and is not his best one, but also because he cannot think in a straight explanation of why he draw him without clothes (even if he swear is for practicing purposes in human anatomy).
• But Gareth is really impressed, like, legitimately amazed by Will's skills. The drawing is so cool and he cannot believe is made with pencil only. He assures at Will how much talented he is, and a blushed Byers just smiles brightly, both relieved and flattered because Gareth is cool with it.
• So Will trust him enought to let Gareth look at the rest of the sketchbook. Will has a lot of different things in there: ideas for paints, color test with his new set of watercolors, the party's portraits, some backgrounds of California, previous campaign notes and the characters he returned to write again since he left Hawkins, now with different backstories that he wrote on little stick notes on the corners of the pages.
• Gareth starts to ask about the drawings, and Will is happy because he's really respectful with them, like, he's not passing the pages quickly, he is actually admiring it, following with the gaze the traces, and he's curious about what he has to say, so Byers spoil him talking about little details too. "I was actually listening this specific song on that one", "El is actually a great model, she let me draw her often and doesn't move a lot", "i've been stuck in what colors i want to paint that one", "that's an old character that i was thinking to use in the new campaign".
• Will cannot remember what was the last time someone outside his family showed interest in the things he liked. And Gareth is a great listener. He also has a cute smile, Will likes the dimples specially.
• But hear me out, Will's intern monologe is that he's just admiring him like an artist, because objectively artists are used to watch people intensily to decode the principal gestures on them to translate it in paper. So Will is there like "im admiring him for artistic purposes".
• ...Besides, Gareth looks unaware because he's really concentrated on the sketchbook, so It doesn't hurt anyone, right?
• And he has a soft hair, it looks even softer than Steve's. Also his hands are cute, they're probably smaller than his actually, but way strongest too. And his lips-
• Will's face is red and tries to shake those thoughts by writing his adress on the back of a stupid doodle (a little demon dancing) and gave it to Gareth.
• Detention is over, and both are kind of dissapointed because they were actually enjoying it.
• "until Friday, Will the wise!". Gareth's smile is really soft, and contrast with his usual bitch face really well. He just waves and return to his house.
• Will tries to concentrate in the campaign right before he head off to bed, but his brain is exhausted, so he starts to draw randomly on the paper trying to relax.
• Is until the fourth doodle he realizes he's drawing Gareth.
• But is really abstract, is mostly different details he noted before, he doesn't dare to draw his entire face because that could be weird, right?
• So he just fill the rest of the page with a Queen's song lyrics before turn off the light and decides to try and sleep.
• And he pass out immediatly, and for the first time in weeks, he feels relaxed enought to sleep without any dream about the Upside Down.
• Because for the first time in years he felt a little bit of what a teenage normal life looked like, having someone interested in him besides the Upside Down thing, having someone actually listening, having someone who... Who wanted to meet him more, another teenager who was really cool and for some reason wanted to defend him without the overprotection. Someone who didnt make it because he knew about Vecna, just because he found Will worth it for being himself.
----
(Im not planning of writing a fanfic because i can't take that responsability atm. But if anyone is interested to properly write it please go ahead! Just give me credits and send me the link!)

100 Feet and a World Away is up against New Phone Who Dis in the tmnt separated AU comp and while the poll is a ways away I had this idea and I wanted to write it.
@callmehere-iwillappear I hope you don’t mind me borrowing your kids and I hope you like this!
(“Dandy, where is April?” SHE’S AROUND. Just not here. There were already so many people in this conversation, she’s letting the kids bond okay don’t worry about it.)
———
“And then we all ended up here!” sang the other Mikey, entirely too chipper for the story he had just finished telling, about how the other group of turtles, their opponents for the next round, had been kidnapped ten years ago and raised in captivity. Raph tries not to choke on her ice cream.
After being introduced they’d decided to get ice cream - something the other four had never had before, for reasons that had just been thoroughly explained. The four of them seemed confused by the idea of sitting at a table, so they’re sitting in a group on the floor instead, the three almost mirror images of her friends (her siblings? that is still boggling her mind) leaning against the other Raphael. He’s laying on his stomach, lazily licking from his own bowl with a contented churr deep in his throat.
(It reminds her of how she gets sometimes, when she’s alone, and it makes her sad and unnerved in equal measure.)
“Uh, wow,” says Leon, the first one on their side to react. “That’s quite a story.”
“Mikey makes it sound better than it was,” says the other Leo, with the same humor in his voice that Leon has. He’s the only one who isn’t eating his ice cream, and Raph wonders if he doesn’t like it.
“I wanna hear about you guys, though,” says the other Mikey, bouncing in place. “Where do you live? Who raised you?”
Mike and Othello (Donnie) are still recovering, so again, Leon takes the lead. “Well, we were all raised separately, but I was raised by my dads.”
“Dads!?” gasps the other Mikey, emphasis on the S. “You have more than one!?”
“Yep!” Leon sounds proud about it. “Two whole dads.”
“Woooow… two whole dads,” says the other Mikey with awe. He sounds a little jealous. Maybe Raph is a little jealous, too.
“Why do you need two fathers?” asks the other Donnie, eyes wide like he’s trying to study Leon. So far, he seems the most different from Othello-Donnie (other than her silent double). “Only one male parent is required for reproduction.”
Raph feels the defensive energy roll off Leon before he says anything. “Okay first off, don’t be homophobic.”
The other Donnie stares blankly at him, clearly confused by the sudden snippiness. The other Leo and Mikey look equally confused.
Raph very lightly nudges Leon, and he jolts, pressing his hands to his face.
“…That was a genuine question, wasn’t it?”
Othello snorts. “Did you just call the guy who grew up in a lab homophobic?”
“Shut up! I wasn’t thinking!”
“He’s adopted,” says Mike helpfully. “And his dads are in looove.”
“True, but also, eugh,” says Leon
“Awww, that’s so nice!” says other Mikey. Raph notices he’s finished his ice cream, and completely licked the bowl clean. It’s all over his lips and cheeks, which makes Raph laugh silently to herself.
“Right!?” Mike starts getting excited too - they’re playing off each other’s energies now. “You know, I think my dad should get back in the dating scene, but he always says he’s too busy planning to destroy- er,” Mike glances at the rest of them, then says, “he’s, uh, always busy with work so he can’t.” They trail off with an awkward laugh.
The other Mikey, seeing nothing amiss, starts peppering them with questions, and while he’s doing that, the other Leo quietly swaps his full ice cream bowl for Mikey’s empty one. Ah, so that was the plan.
It’s sweet, but Raph can’t stop herself from speaking up. “You should eat your own ice cream.”
Leo jumps, clearly not expecting to be called out. “Uh, I’m not hungry, so Mikey can have it,” he says.
“Well, you guys haven’t had a lot of sweets, right? Eating too much sugar at once can make you sick.”
She says it to encourage Leo to eat his own, and also because she genuinely doesn’t want this other Mikey to get a stomachache his first time eating ice cream, but the horrified look on Leo’s face makes her feel bad. He snatches the ice cream back, looking at it like it’s poison.
“I wasn’t trying to make him sick,” he says softly.
“Uh, Raph knows you weren’t,” she says quickly, holding up her hands. “It’s not a big deal.”
Still, he looks upset, which is making Mikey upset, which is making the other Raph shuffle behind them with agitation. This isn’t what she meant to happen at all.
It’s Leon who smoothes things over. He’s good at that.
“Geez, Red,” he says, nudging Raph with his shoulder. “You’re the same in real life as you are online, huh?”
She gives him a side-eye. “What do you mean?”
Leon smirks. “A mother hen.”
This makes both Othello and Mike laugh, and the awkward air over the other boys lessens. She just rolls her eyes at Leon but lets it go.
“What’s a mother hen?” asks the other Mikey.
Leon is all too happy to explain. “Means he’s always trying to take care of us. She’s like this online too.”
“Oh,” says Mikey. “Well, why not?” He leans back and bumps his own Raph, who rumbles contentedly. “Raph’s the best big brother ever! It’s the same for you guys, right?”
And that hits her.
Big brother? Is that what she is?
Well, she is the oldest. And the biggest. And if Leon, Mike, and Othello are her siblings, then…
She glances at her friends. None of them are meeting her eyes, and she feels as bashful about it as they look.
They haven’t really talked about it yet. Haven’t put a name to it. But… it’d be nice, she thinks.
Before any of them can think of anything to say, the other Donnie, who seems incapable of reading the mood of any conversation, speaks up first. “I think One should eat ice cream until he can’t. It could be valuable data.”
“Oh, yeah!” cheers Mike, clearly happy with this turn. “Let’s eat ice cream ‘til we puke!”
“Yeah!” cheers Mikey in agreement. “‘Til we puke!”
Mike holds up their hand and Mikey, who only recently learned what a high five is, eagerly returns it.
“No!” snaps Othello, holding out his arms. “If anyone in this group throws up I’m leaving and not coming back!”
“Oh well now we gotta do it,” says Leon, and the conversation erupts once again.
Raph sits back from it all, watching her other self snooze, his brothers tucked against his side, and she wonders if she’ll ever feel like big brother for real.

Romeo & Juliet [Part 1]
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jacob Black x OC!Swan
Word Count: 1953
Part 2 Part 3
Sloan Swan detested the assigned reading she was given. It bothers her that the widely accepted portrayal of Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet It was a narrative of blind lust for a stranger rather than an epic love story of two tragic lovers torn apart by their warring families.
“They loved each other.” Bella, her twin sister, argued as she drove them to school. In contrast to Sloan, Bella was enamored with the notion of love and disregarded the glaring red warning signs it left in its wake. Romeo’s lovely, meaningless words blinded her, just like they did so many others.
She criticized, “Romeo was literally ‘in love’ with Juliet’s cousin, Rosaline, and when she didn’t return his feeling, he went looking elsewhere. When he tells his friends about his ‘feelings’ for Juliet, they assume he’s talking about Rosaline.”
“That’s not true.” Her sister shakes her head in disbelief.
Sloan ruffles through her backpack, searching for the school’s copy of the play and flipping through the tagged pages.
“Page 32 to 33. Benvolio says to Romeo, ‘At this same ancient feast of Capulet’s, Sups the fair Rosaline whom thou so loves,’ and later in the same page Romeo replies, ‘One fairer than my love? The all-seeing sun, Ne’er saw her match since first the world begun.’ Romeo meets Juliet around page 53. Do I need to read more?”
Bella remained quiet as her perception of Romeo and Juliet was uprooted. The heartbreaking reality was silently placed in front of her, bursting a love she had equated her and Edwards to and a raging loathing emerged for her twin sister.
“And not to mention, Romeo only married Juliet to sleep with her. That’s not love.”
Bella gritted her teeth. “What do you know about love?”
“More than you, apparently.” She shot back. It was true she never had a boyfriend, but she was born with logic, and she’d be damned to ignore red flags when she saw them.
“Why do you hate love stories?”
“I don’t hate love stories.” Sloan clarified, “I hate toxic relationships disguised as love stories. There’s a difference.”
Juliet was a naive girl with rose petal shades shielding her from the truth. She was in love with the idea of love and fallen for the first boy to entice her. Her false sense of love drove her to follow him in death. Her end was tragic as she never once felt true love, only the lust of a boy impatient to bed her.
“I pity Juliet. Romeo used her and would’ve abandoned her when a new beauty caught his eye.” She sniffled out a yawn. “He plucked her from the sky and clipped her wings, locking her in a golden cage, and once he got bored of her song, he freed her but left her flightless. That would’ve been the ending of their story if they had lived.”
Bella remained silent, reeling in her fragmented view on Romeo and Juliet’s relationship, her hatred for her sister burning twice as much. The silhouette of the school could not appear fast enough as Bella hurriedly searched for a parking spot.
Her arms trembling as she parked her truck, unable to comprehend Sloan’s point of view on her favorite Shakespeare play, and needed some space to clear her mind. Sloan had zipped her backpack up; infuriating Bella. How can Sloan act as if she hadn’t disrupted her entire world. She slams her door shut as she frantically searches for Edward, her lifeline.
“Wherefore art thou, Bella? Sloan?” Mike calls out as he, Eric, Angela, and Jessica approach the two twins. “You finish the Shakespeare assignment?”
Jessica pitched in, “He means will you finish his assignment?”
“No, I don’t—okay I do.” He admits.
“I can help you with it — but first —” She pulls out her new camera, a birthday gift from her father that she was gifted earlier today. “I need a picture. My mom’s expecting a scrapbook full of memories.”
Angela holds out her own camera and says, “I take ‘em; I don’t pose for ‘em.”
“You do today.” Bella lightly pushed Angela towards the rest of the group as they arranged themselves.
“I can take the picture, Bella,” Sloan says while holding out a hand. “Go stand with your friends.” Bella reluctantly hands it over before awkwardly walking towards them as the group rearrange themselves for Bella to be in the center.
“You’ll photoshop my nose if it looks big, right?” The question was aimed at Bella.
“Don’t worry, I’m in the picture; no one will be looking at you guys.” Eric proclaimed confidently.
Jessica scoffs at his joke as the group decided on their final poses. Angela, incorporating her love for photography, points the camera at Sloan; Mike and Eric joust, and Bella stands in the center of their delightfully carefree selves stiffly. The clicks of the camera shutters as it freezes them in a moment in time and archives it forever.
Sloan lowers the camera before noticing their playful smiles dissipates except for Bella’s. The timid smile she faked grew into a real one as she had obviously spotted Edward, her boyfriend.
Although her friends did not mind the male, they did not appreciate how quickly she discarded them for him. When Bella and Edward started dating, they became placeholders for when he wasn’t around.
“Oh good. Cullen’s here.” Mike noticed the way Edward stared at Bella; it was not out of love but something more nefarious. At first, he chalked it up to jealously. His feelings for Bella were still ever-present, but he genuinely cared for her well-being. He believed, with all that he’s seen, that Edward did not love Bella the way she loves him. It was only a matter of time before he hurt her, and he prayed to be wrong for her sake.
Jessica’s response was even drier. “Yay.” Once upon a time, she had feelings for Edward, but the second he became unavailable, she pushed those feelings aside. Bella was her friend, even if she didn’t act like it most of the time, and she would never stand in the way of her friend’s happiness. However, she had noticed Bella’s co-dependency on Edward, following him around like a lost puppy craving his attention. It wasn’t healthy. Not one bit, but she had no right to say anything.
Sloan, too, did not like the relationship her sister had with Edward. Edward had stripped Bella away from her independent lifestyle. There was never a moment away from Edward. Bella would choose him over everyone, and the realization of this truth stung. She missed the days when the two of them would read together; although both were silent during this time, the conversations that happened afterwards were fun. Those days were gone, now filled with an empty chair and an untouched book, and Sloan having no one to talk to. She never thought she would become familiar with loneliness.
“Check ya, later.” Eric replied, sensing the uncomfortable atmosphere, and lead his friends away.
Bella hadn’t responded, nor did she notice; her attention solely remained on Edward, who approached her figure, his eyes never leaving hers. This was the moment when Sloan decided to leave, her absence going unnoticed by both her twin and the vampire. She preferred to be in her English class going over Romeo and Juliet than forced to watch her sister pine about her boyfriend.
From across the parking lot, someone shouted. “Sloan!” She turned her attention to the person, Jacob Black, her friend from the nearby reservation. His presence brought a smile onto her face as her worries vanished in an instant.
“Jake!” Her excitement could not be contained. It has been a while since the two of them hung out; both busy with school work and other responsibilities. “You grew.” She noticed. His muscles were more refined than the last time she saw him, he was now a head taller than her.
He laughed, “And you didn’t.” Now he can hold the television control over her head like she had done to him in their childhood. Sweet, sweet revenge.
She pouted, “Not my fault I’m bite-sized.” By no means was she short, not was she unusually tall. She was average, yet compared to the massive monster known as Jacob, it would appear so.
His glee was energizing, her thoughts on Edward and Bella fading into the foreground of her mind, acting as a life jacket keeping her from drowning in her thoughts and worries.
“Happy birthday.” He offers her a warm hug before reaching into his pocket, pulling out a small hand-woven bracelet. “It’s not much, I know, but.” He drops it in the palm of her hand, eyeing the marvel embedded in her chestnut eyes. “I hope you like it.”
“I love it!” She exclaimed, “You didn’t have to get me anything.” It was a thoughtful gift—something she’ll treasure forever. She quickly slips it on and makes a silent vow to never take it off. She won’t, however, except when she bathes or swims. She does not want his hard work to be ruined by water.
“I’m glad you like it.” He looks around for the other birthday girl, seeing her in a quiet conversation with her boyfriend. “I’m going to give your sister her gift.”
Sloan nods. Class is going to start soon, and she needed to get to class. “Bye Jacob.”
“Bye.” He rushed towards her sister, yelling her name to get her attention, managing to break up the couple for a few moments.
~~~
Bella quietly dropped off her sister at home before rushing away to her boyfriend’s house. Apparently, his family were throwing her a small party for their family only—the Cullens and the birthday girl—and no one else. Leaving Sloan and her father to celebrate the twins birthday alone.
The two didn’t plan much but it was just right for them. Both Bella and Sloan weren’t the party type, they preferred the quiet hums of their home, a homemade dinner with their father, and a hushed evening filled with television and soft conversation.
Sloan spent the day prepping for their meal, spicy honey garlic chicken with garlic Parmesan fries. It was a favorite she and her father shared. Bella’s absence remained a constant in their conversations. They spent their evening watching her favorite movies: Legally Blonde, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Scream, and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
Charlie loved the days when he and his daughters would sit together and watch TV. Bella would hide under the covers whenever a horror sequence became too much, opting to stay under until the danger passed. Sloan would mindlessly make comments under her breath throughout the movie, only audible to the person sitting next to her. He enjoyed days like this, as they were a small snippet of the past, his daughters reminding him of their younger selves, and now they were all grown up.
Wrapped up in one of her blankets, she laid her head on her father’s shoulders, her eyes drooping. It was late, and Bella still hadn’t arrived. Their birthday was already over and not a single second of the three of them had celebrated as a family. It truly broke her heart.
She didn’t know when, but her father carried her to her bedroom and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead before tucking her in. He was going to miss moments like this. His children are adults now, and soon they will be leaving the nest. He never prepared himself for this day, always believing he had more time with them, but he guessed every parent came to the same realization when the time finally arrived.
Amorous Facades - Chapter Thirteen
Tumblr media
A wild night out leaves the lives of Jamie Tartt and Ophelia Adams more intertwined than they ever would have imagined.
Will their decision to try and use the situation to their advantage work out in their favour or will they realize that they should have cut their losses when they had the chance?
Note:   I know I said I wouldn't be updating every week and that still stands, but I was inspired and had a little extra time this week so I finished this chapter faster than I expected and I'm so bad at waiting to post!
Still no guarantees on any kind of posting schedule, but please enjoy and let me know what you think!
———-
It was amazing to Lia how different she felt after taking her relationship with Jamie to the next level.
Once the line had been crossed, Jamie was more than happy to embrace the shift in their relationship and he made sure that she was constantly and consistently satisfied. His level of enthusiasm and commitment to the cause left her feeling giddy, refreshed and like she was glowing all the time. Similarly to the way she felt after she lost her virginity, she was sure that her sexual gratification was written all over her face and she was amazed that it wasn’t entirely obvious to everyone that she was getting regularly and thoroughly well fucked.
But life kept going with the world mostly oblivious to the change in her mood and demeanour. Lia found herself watching the clock more - as she was much more eager for time to pass quickly so she could get home to Jamie - but for the most part the days went by as they normally did.
Until one day an unexpected customer caught Lia completely off guard.
She was standing at the till, printing off a few receipts for returns they’d had earlier that morning when she heard the bell above the door ring. She called out a greeting without even looking up, but the voice that answered her immediately drew her attention.
“Hi, Lia,” Katie waved sheepishly. “How are you?”
It took Lia a moment to process the sight of her estranged best friend, but when she finally found her voice, her response was curt.
“I’m fine. What are you doing here?”
“I think I owe you an apology…”
Lia had been wanting to hear those words from Katie ever since she’d last seen her, but after all the time that had passed she just found the statement irritating.
“Yes, you absolutely do,” Lia informed her. “But it might be too little too late.”
The way Katie’s face fell had Lia feeling surprisingly conflicted. She felt the immediate flicker of smug satisfaction that she’d expected, but it was followed by a pang of guilt for being responsible for the sad look on her face. She had to admit that she looked rough. She was pale with dark circles under her eyes and the stringy, flat look of her hair told her that it hadn’t been washed for a few days. Considering Katie usually took great pride in her appearance, her dishevelled state made it clear that she was going through some kind of turmoil.
“I really hope it’s not,” she murmured, nervously biting her lip before turning her pleading eyes up to meet Lia’s. “Can I please just have a few minutes to explain? I want to make this right.”
All the many things that Katie had done to hurt Lia flashed through her mind. The way she never took her concerns about Daniel seriously and ignored her requests to be around him as little as possible, her unwarranted dislike of Jamie and rude assumptions about him, and the way she’d agreed with Mike and Daniel when they insisted that Lia had asked for all of the unwanted attention that Daniel had given her. The sting of hurt was still fresh and had an ache clenching her heart as she knew that there really wasn’t much that Katie could say to make amends for what she’d done.
But even with Jamie’s harsh criticism of her being a people pleaser giving her some doubts, Lia was still a firm believer in giving people a second chance.
“You can have fifteen minutes,” she decided after letting Katie sweat for a moment as she mulled it over. “My dad should be back soon and then I can take my break.”
“Perfect, thank you, Lia,” Katie said with a noticeable sigh of relief. “I’ll just, uh, browse while I wait.”
Lia nodded and Katie scurried off as if she wanted to get away before Lia could change her mind and when her dad came back from the errands he’d been running a few minutes later, the feeling was bittersweet. While Lia was admittedly curious about what Katie had to say and what had sparked her sudden epiphany that she needed to apologize, she knew it wasn’t going to be an easy conversation and the thought of any further conflict made her stomach twist with anxiety.
“Everything okay?” Her dad asked as he walked up to the counter. “You don’t look very well. Actually, you look like you’re about to be sick.”
“Katie’s here,” she informed him, knowing that he knew enough about what had happened between them to recognize how stressful that news would be. “She wants to talk, do you mind if I take my break early today?”
“No, not at all,” he assured her before pausing for a moment and adding, “Unless the right answer to that question is ‘no, absolutely not, we’re far too busy for you to have a break at all today’?”
His offer to be her scapegoat had a smile sliding onto his face, but she quickly shook her head.
“No, I think it’ll be okay,” Lia said with a cautious optimism in her voice. “I’d like to hear what she has to say and if worst comes to worst then at least I’ll get some closure out of it.”
“You’re wise beyond your years,” her dad teased as he walked around the counter to relieve her of her duties. “But good luck, I hope it all goes well.”
Lia murmured her thanks before slipping away and heading to the office to grab her things. She would absolutely need coffee to handle the conversation she was about to have and was planning on dragging Katie to the café next door, but as she grabbed her bag and picked her phone up off the desk, she paused to shoot off a quick text.
Hi Jamie. I’ll have to bail on our lunch date today, Katie just showed up and wants to chat. She says she owes me an apology, but I’m not optimistic that she’s truly come to her senses.
She was barely out of the office when her phone pinged with a response.
If you need me to come and teach anyone a lesson then you just let me know xx
His immediate readiness to leap to her defense had Lia biting back a smile and gave her confidence the lift that she needed as she ventured out to find Katie. It took her a minute to track her down, but the section of the bookstore that she found her in had Lia unable to resist making a snarky comment.
“Interesting that you’re in the self-help section,” she mused, catching Katie’s attention. “I’m not sure we have anything for people looking for advice on how to cope with the fact that their boyfriend’s best friend is a massive pervert.”
To her surprise, there was no eye roll or defensive comeback and Katie simply flashed her a sad smile.
“I was hoping for something more along the lines of ‘how to make a good apology’,” she admitted. “But if you do know of any books to help me with that problem too then I would be happy to read them.”
“I don’t, but I could probably give you a few tips about where you’ve gone wrong so far.” Lia hesitated as Katie cringed, but she continued before she could reply. “Can we pause this conversation for a minute though? I don’t have long and I need to run next door to grab a coffee, but we can talk there if you want to come with me.”
Again, Katie eagerly agreed as if she was worried that at any moment she would say something that would make Lia kick her straight to the curb, but an awkwardness crept in as they walked out of the store to the coffee shop next door with neither of them really knowing what to say to each other. Lia had a million questions and she was sure that Katie did too, but diving into any kind of small talk before they’d addressed the bigger issues seemed pointless. So, they waited quietly until they had their drinks in their hands and Lia had led them to a quiet table at the back of the small café.
“Is it okay for us to talk here?” Katie asked once they’d sat down. “Aren’t you worried about being recognized or that someone might overhear?”
“I never get recognized unless I’m with Jamie and even then he’s the one who draws the attention,” Lia shrugged. “Football fans aren’t super into the gossip of who the players are dating and people who are into the gossip don’t care enough about me to memorize my face.”
“Oh, well, that’s good,” Katie smiled. “I was worried about you and how being so well-known would affect your life.”
“Oh, really?” Lia questioned, her incredulity clear in her voice. She hadn’t planned to dive straight into things, but Katie’s supposed concern was too ridiculous to go unchallenged. “You didn’t seem very worried about me when you invited Daniel out for drinks with us the night you met Jamie just so he could continue to harass me.”
“I didn’t know he was going to do that,” Katie protested. “I genuinely thought he wanted to apologize and make peace!”
“Okay, but when he started making comments, you didn’t speak up, did you?” Lia pressed. “Do you have any idea how humiliating that was for me? You sat in front of my boyfriend and let Daniel and Mike act like I’d practically been trying to cheat on him. Telling him that I was flirting and playing hard to get all the time, trying to seduce Daniel. If Jamie didn’t trust me as much as he does then that could have completely ruined our relationship!”
“I know, it was awful. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for the conversation to go that way, I promise.”
Katie had the decency to look ashamed, but Lia’s anger was still bubbling up inside her as she finally had the chance to say everything that she wanted to say.
“But what about the fact that you agreed with them? You knew how uncomfortable Daniel made me, you knew that I genuinely didn’t like being around him and had no interest in him romantically, but you agreed with everything that they said and made me look like an absolute idiot.”
“I just panicked,” Katie tried to explain with a frantic edge growing in her voice. “I know it’s completely unforgivable, but I was so torn between you and Mike and I just wanted it all to go away.”
Katie’s words stung Lia as if she’d been slapped in the face. She knew that Katie was trying to own up to her mistakes, but hearing her admit that she prioritized keeping the peace over protecting Lia hurt more than she’d expected. She’d known all along that that was exactly what had happened, but there was something hard to swallow about hearing her admit it and a scoff fell from her lips.
“Well, I guess you got what you wanted then. With me out of your life, there’s no conflict.”
“Having you out of my life was not what I wanted,” Katie’s voice was firm, but there was a sheepishness to it when she continued. “And it hasn’t stopped the conflict either.”
“I can’t say that I’m surprised,” Lia said with a roll of her eyes, but her curiosity had her asking, “What’s happened now?”
“He scared off my new flatmate,” Katie admitted. “She was so sweet and lovely, we got along so well and I thought it was going to be a great fit, but we all went out for drinks one night and Daniel wouldn’t leave her alone. Then he started showing up at the flat all the time, pretending like he thought Mike was supposed to be there, but it was obviously just an excuse to get close to Lily. It freaked her right out and now she’s moving out by the end of the week.”
“And now you believe that I was right when I said that he was the problem.”
“I do,” she nodded. “But I don’t know what to do. Mike can’t see that Daniel is doing anything wrong, he thinks everyone is just overreacting and misunderstanding him because he sees such a different side of him.”
Again, Lia felt a sting of hurt. Mike had been like a brother to her and it felt like a huge betrayal that he still thought she was being dramatic even after another woman had proved that Daniel’s behaviour was a pattern and not an isolated incident. But then another thought hit her and had the simmering anger boiling up again.
“Wait, is that why you’re here? Did you just come to get advice because you’ve landed yourself in a shit situation?”
“No! I came here to apologize!” Katie insisted. “I realized how awful I’d been to you and how right you were about him being dangerous, if you had any insight to offer then that would just be a bonus.”
“I have no insight for you,” Lia scowled. “You got yourself into this mess, you can get yourself out.”
“I know, but I don’t know how,” she practically whispered with a wounded look on her face that had Lia battling a flicker of guilt despite her pride at her uncharacteristic ability to stay strong. “I messed up, Lia. I want to make it right, but Mike will never cut ties with Daniel which means he’ll always be a part of my life.”
It took Lia a moment to process her admission and Katie watched her closely for any sign of a reaction, but Lia knew exactly what Daniel’s presence would mean for their friendship.
“Then I won’t be.” The words came out less confidently than she would have liked, but the impact was all the same and Katie deflated completely. It tugged at her heart, but she knew for her own mental health, it was the only answer. “I’m not going to put myself in a position where I’m constantly forced to be around someone who makes me feel unsafe and acts like I’m some sort of lying slut who was trying to cheat on my boyfriend and only got mad when I got caught. I don’t deserve that.”
“You don’t,” Lia agreed. “But I can’t convince Mike that he’s wrong and I can’t lose Mike so I don’t know what I can do to fix this.”
“I don’t have an answer for you, but there’s no point in us even trying to fix our friendship if he’s still around.”
At first, Katie opened her mouth like she was about to argue, but all that came out was a sigh.
“Alright, I can understand that,” she relented. “It makes me very sad, but I understand where you’re coming from.”
The fact that Katie felt she had a reason to be sad did nothing to earn her any sympathy or ease any of Lia’s frustration. She was the victim in the Daniel situation and Katie was the only one who could fix it. She was the powerless one who was stuck between losing her best friend or being subject to constant sexual harassment, Katie had no right to be upset by her decision if she was going to do nothing to change the situation.
“Yes, it makes me sad too, but I guess sometimes that’s just life,” Lia snapped as she rose from her seat. “I need to get back to work, but thanks for stopping by, Katie. It was…enlightening.”
Without waiting for Katie to respond, Lia walked out of the café. It took more willpower than she cared to admit not to look back and see what Katie’s reaction was to her bold exit, but she needed some time to wrap her mind around the conversation they’d just had. She’d accepted the fact that their friendship would not be a quick fix - if they even managed to fix it at all - but she had to admit that she’d let her hopes rise a bit when Katie first walked into the bookshop waving the proverbial white flag. Knowing that she still wasn’t ready to make the changes in her life that would be necessary for them to start building bridges was disappointing to say the least and Lia almost wished she hadn’t bothered to stop by at all.
——
The rest of the day passed by as Lia floated around in a fog. She was distracted as she replayed her conversation with Katie over and over again in her head, but by the end of the day she’d found no more clarity than she’d had when she left the café. Her dad had watched her worriedly and even offered to stay late and tidy up the shop for her so she could go home early, but she half-heartedly and unconvincingly assured him she was fine and she did enjoy the solitude she had when he left, flipping over the open sign and locking the door behind him.
However, her time alone with her thoughts was quickly interrupted by the sound of someone tapping on the window, but the sight of Jamie waving when she turned around had a weak smile sliding onto her face as she hurried to open the door.
“Hi,” he greeted her, his hands in his pocket as he anxiously rocked on his heels. “Is it alright if I come in?”
“Of course,” Lia nodded, furrowing her brow as she stepped aside. Jamie stopped by almost every night to help clean and drive her home and he’d never seemed so hesitant before. “Are you okay?”
“Depends,” he shrugged. “Are we okay?”
The question only deepened her confusion.
“As far as I know,” she nodded. “Why wouldn’t we be?”
The tension visibly drained from Jamie and Lia was relieved that she didn’t have to wait much longer for some insight into his strange behaviour as he quickly explained.
“Dunno, just got nervous when you didn’t answer my text earlier. Thought maybe Katie turned you against me.”
“Oh, Jamie, I’m sorry,” she frowned, feeling a genuine pang of guilt at leaving him waiting in suspense all afternoon. He’d messaged her shortly after she’d returned to work and while she’d seen the text, her racing thoughts seemed too wild to condense into any kind of summary short enough to fit into a text message. She’d intended to reply and assure him that she’d fill him in later, but it had slipped her mind. “I meant to answer you, but I’ve been a little distracted. She could never turn me against you though, no matter what she said.”
Leaning the broom she’d been sweeping with against the wall, Lia quickly closed the space between them to wrap her arms around Jamie’s waist and as he pulled her in close against the muscles of his chest and his scent surrounded her, she felt clear headed for the first time all afternoon. None of her problems had disappeared and it didn’t erase the pain of how their conversation had unfolded, but Lia felt grounded, safe, and reassured that she still had someone in her corner.
“I’m glad to hear that,” he murmured, pressing a kiss against the top of her head. “But how did it go? Are you friends again?”
“No, not even close,” Lia scoffed, slipping out of his grasp. “She basically just told me that I was right about Daniel because he harassed her new flatmate until she decided to move out just to get away from him and then whined about being unable to do anything about the situation because Mike still doesn’t believe any of it.”
“What a prick. Both of them. All three of them, actually.” Jamie shook his head in disgust and the blunt - but accurate - conclusion he’d drawn had a smile sliding onto Lia’s face. However, when he continued, her brief amusement subsided and she felt her heart growing heavy again. “It’s also pretty shit that she only decided that you were right after someone else told her the same thing. If she’s supposed to be your friend then your word should be enough.”
“Exactly,” Lia nodded. “And I don’t know what Mike’s problem is. I know that he’s close to Daniel and he’s known him forever, but he was like a brother to me and he should know that this isn’t something I would lie about. Besides, what have I gained from the situation? I lost someone who I thought would always have my back, I lost my best friend.”
She could feel her eyes filling with tears no matter how hard she blinked them back and as her voice cracked when the finality of the admission left her mouth, she worried that she wouldn’t be able to hold back the flood much longer. Sensing her rising emotions, Jamie quickly pulled her back into his arms and soothingly rubbed her back.
“I’m sorry, babe,” he murmured. “It’s a shit situation and you don’t deserve to be treated like that.”
“I know,” Lia sniffled. “That’s why I stayed firm and refused to talk about fixing our friendship until she sorted out the mess on her end, but it’s all just made me feel so alone.”
“You’re not alone, you have me.”
There was a twinge of hurt to Jamie’s voice and Lia rushed to explain, leaning back to look up at him.
“I know and I’m so grateful that I found you,” she told him sincerely as she wiped her eyes. “But I don’t really have any friends. It sounds completely pathetic, but I’ve lost touch with all of my school friends and working here with my dad isn’t a great way to meet people. It’s always just been me and Katie so now it’s just me.”
It was humiliating to admit and she knew it sounded incredibly pitiful, but it was true. She’d never been a particularly social person and her introverted nature had always paired well with Katie’s extroverted need for constant company. Whenever Lia felt like socializing, Katie was more than happy to oblige and the closeness that they’d shared left her with little need for other friends, but now she could see the benefit to having a wider social circle.
“You have Keeley, and Rebecca.”
“Yeah, but that’s a bit complicated. Keeley’s your ex,” she pointed out. “And Rebecca’s your boss. They’ve been so kind and welcoming and I love spending time with them, but there’s some elements of ‘girl talk’ that I’d find a little strange to discuss with them.”
“What, like when you want to slag me off?” He questioned before flashing her a smirk and adding, “Or when you wanna brag about how amazing I am in bed?”
“Both.” Lia managed to crack a smile. “It’s just nice to have someone that you can tell everything to, you know?”
“Well, if I’m bein’ honest, I don’t think neither of them would mind if you wanted to talk a little shit about me. They’d probably be happy to join in.”
“But what about when I do want to brag about how incredible you are in bed? Might be a little awkward when Keeley starts comparing notes.”
“I guess so,” Jamie shrugged. “But that’s a conversation I wouldn’t mind hearing.”
“That’s the last thing your ego needs.” Lia rolled her eyes despite the giggle that slipped from her lips, but it was quickly followed by a sigh. “Sorry for dumping all of this on you. I know that I’ll be fine and I’m so lucky to have a lot of great people in my life, like you . It’s just…I loved Katie like a sister and it’s hard to accept that she’s willing to toss me aside the way she has, I need to wallow for a while.”
“No need to be sorry. I’m your boyfriend, it’s my job to listen to you complain.” The teasing edge to his voice had Lia biting back another smile and feeling grateful that he so effortlessly managed to lift her spirits. “And I don’t mind letting you wallow, but I did have another idea you might be interested in.”
The suggestion and the somewhat shy delivery had Lia’s intrigue rising and she raised an eyebrow as she prompted him to continue with a gentle, “Go on…”
“Your dad’s still closing the shop next week, yeah?” She nodded in confirmation as they closed every summer for a few days and while her dad used that time to do some extra cleaning and organizing, he was always adamant that Lia take the days off. “I was thinking that maybe we could go away somewhere? You work so much, you could use a decent holiday and maybe a change of scenery could help get your mind off things.”
Lia felt a flicker of excitement twist in her stomach as the idea sounded incredibly appealing.
“That would be amazing,” she quickly agreed. “Where were you thinking? Down to the coast, maybe? Or if we went up to the Lake District we could visit your mum on the way.”
“Uh, I was thinking something a little further away than that.”
“You were? Like where?”
“Italy,” he confessed. “How do you feel about Capri?”
She’d heard of it, but it had the excitement she’d been feeling fading to disappointment almost as quickly as it had appeared. As far as she knew it was a luxurious place where celebrities and wealthy people liked to holiday and while Jamie might have fit that description, she did not.
“I feel like it’s a beautiful place that I’d never be able to afford,” she reluctantly admitted, regretting that her lack of financial stability would be holding him back from the five star holiday that he was used to. “I can’t afford flights to anywhere so last minute and I definitely can’t afford to visit somewhere so fancy.”
“Good thing you won’t be paying then.” There was a proud grin on Jamie’s face and when Lia opened her mouth to protest, he continued before she had the chance. “C’mon, babe. I’m not being funny, but one holiday is nothing to me and you deserve it. It can be an early birthday present if that makes you feel better.”
“Do you even know when my birthday is?”
She was trying to buy some time as she mulled over his offer, but it was a valid question as she realized that she didn’t actually know when Jamie’s was.
“No,” he admitted without even bothering to guess or pretend. “But if it’s already happened then it can be a Christmas gift instead.”
“It’s in September.”
“Then that’s perfect, only a couple months away. Mine’s in October, but football will be back by then so this will be a good time to celebrate them both.”
It was tempting and after her emotional day it was even more enticing. The last few months had been a whirlwind of change and having a few days away from all the problems and responsibilities of day to day life with nothing to do but enjoy a little time with Jamie was practically impossible to say no to.
“Are you sure?” She questioned, feeling her resistance starting to weaken. “It’s a lot of money to spend for just a few days.”
“Absolutely."
His assurance was said so sincerely that Lia had no choice but to relent and accept his generous offer.
“Alright, then you can go ahead and book it.”
“Already did,” he admitted with a cheeky smile that had a laugh falling from Lia’s lips. “Knew I’d be able to convince you eventually.”
“Well, aren’t you sneaky,” Lia teased before stretching up to press a kiss against his lips. “But thank you, Jamie. That’s very generous and very thoughtful of you.”
“It’s fine. It’s a gift for me too, be nice to get you all to myself for a few days.” Jamie’s words had her heart fluttering with affection, but then he smirked and tightened his grip on her hips as he added, “But if you really wanna thank me, you can take my card this weekend and go buy yourself some sexy little bikinis for me to peel off of you.”
“Hmm, I’m not sure how spending more of your money would be a good way to thank you for booking us an extravagant holiday.”
“Alright then, guess we’ll just have to finish up here quickly so we can get home and you can thank me another way.”
“What way would that be?”
“I haven’t decided yet,” Jamie informed her, dipping his head to steal a quick kiss before he moved his body away from hers. “But it will definitely involve you being very naked.”
Lia laughed and shook her head as she retrieved the broom from where she’d set it down.
“Well, I look forward to whatever creative idea you come up with,” she assured him as she held the broom out for him to take. “But if you want us to get out of here anytime soon, you better make yourself useful and finish sweeping while I cash up the till.”
Jamie gave a little mock salute before hurrying off to do his task with an eagerness that had another giggle slipping from Lia’s lips as she took a moment to appreciate how grateful she was to have him. It was strange to think how fast things had progressed between them. A few short months earlier she didn’t even know he existed then suddenly he was her fake husband and now he was someone whose mere presence lifted her spirits. The ache of abandonment she felt from her conversation with Katie still lingered in her mind, but knowing she had Jamie to support her did soften the blow as her heart filled with hope for the life that they were slowly building together.
More eddie asks!! Maybe doing his eyeliner before a show?? And/or you bringing the kids and surprising him during a show ❤❤❤
so much fun with this one!! thank you for being patient, i hope you like it! <3 | 1.5k, fem!reader, fluff, fun tidbits for the whole crew
"Hold still, Eddie." He pulls a face at you and you grab his chin gently to force him to settle. This is routine by now. Before every Corroded Coffin show at The Hideout you put on his eyeliner -- something he is fully capable of doing himself. But he likes when you do it, likes when you're in his space like this, tongue out as you concentrate.
"Thanks for coming, sweetheart," he says. He always does, like he can't believe you're still coming to his shows even though they're the same every single time. But how could you miss a chance to see him so excited? He's alive in a really special way at The Hideout, all smiles and loose laughter. He's the way he is when you're alone but for the world to see. Even if the world is just a handful of regular bar-goers.
But tonight you have a surprise for him. You managed to get the entire crew (minus Erica because she refused to stay out past 10pm for anything) to promise to show up to the show just for fun. They've all been saying they'll come for ages, and Eddie never minds that they're not there, but this time you made an actual plan. And you're barely keeping it a secret from him.
"You're bouncy tonight," Eddie says as you finish his makeup. "Did you have a drink already?"
"I'm driving, remember?" You swipe your thumb under his right eye to catch some stray color and grin at him. "Just excited." He stands from the table he was sitting on as the door opens and the rest of the band piles into the green room after setting up.
"See you out there?" He tugs on your ear just once and you squirm away from him.
"You'll have find me in the crowd, Eddie."
"Easy," he says. "Just gotta look for the prettiest girl in the room."
"Ugh." You roll your eyes wrinkle your nose at him. "Gross." But you dart back into his space to give him his quick good luck kiss. "Give 'em hell, rockstar."
The bar isn't crowded, which you expect. Some of the regulars wave to you and the small but devoted gaggle of fans -- friends of the rest of the band, mostly -- amble around in front of the stage. It's fairly quiet besides their chatter and the clinking of glasses. Until the door bursts open and the kids spill into the space, fighting to get through first. It's so strange to see them there, huge sharpie Xs on their hands and eyes wide as they take in the room. Robin and Steve tail them, laughing at something the bouncer yells as the door closes. The longer you look at this rag-tag group the bigger your heart gets.
Dustin has written Eddie across his forehead in...something red, and every single one of them is wearing one of the homemade band shirts you and Eddie did last summer. Max has cut the sleeves off of hers and Lucas's and Robin's is definetly more cropped than everyone else's, her stomach flashing as she moves. Even Steve has his on under his jacket and -- is he wearing eyeliner too?
"You all look amazing! Steve, what is on your face --"
"I did it," Robin interrupts you, smushing his cheeks. "Doesn't he look pretty?"
"Damn, I could use a beer right now," groans Mike.
"Hilarious, Wheeler," Steve scowls, batting Robin's hands away. "Go ask for an apple juice."
"Bars have less lighting than I thought they'd have," Dustin says.
"Thanks for coming, you guys, seriously," you say, grinning. "Eddie has no idea you're here and he'll be so excited."
"We're so excited!" Lucas is practically bouncing. "I've never been to a concert before." Max hooks her fingers through his belt loops to keep him from floating away and rolls her eyes at his excitement.
"It's gonna be lots of fun." You clap your hands together. "And lots of screaming. So get ready!" Steve mutters something about earplugs and you corral them to the bar for sodas.
"What're all these kids doing here?" one of the bartenders asks you.
"They're Eddie's fanclub," you smirk at her. She barks out a laugh as Dustin shows her his face makeup.
"Munson is a lucky guy," she shrugs.
"Oh, he knows," Dustin says.
You chat with Steve and Robin as the bar starts to fill a little more than usual. You keep your eyes on the kids as they explore but you know that they're fine here. And they're having fun. All of the people you love in one room is all you ever want, even if that one room is The Hideout.
As usual, when the show actually starts it does so with little fanfare. The lights don't dim, the crowd doesn't get quiet. But when Corroded Coffin files on stage and Eddie takes his place behind the mic you and Robin clutch each other and scream with the kids.
"Let me on your shoulders, Steve!"
"Fuck off Henderson, no way!"
Eddie's eyes run over the crowd and when he sees you with the entire crew, he sticks his tongue out and howls before winking at you. You scream back.
As is routine, Eddie sings a few songs and the rest of the band members take turns. When he's at the mic you all jump up and down and dance and you cannot believe that this boy is yours. He sings every word to you, as always. When it's over -- they only have like, five songs and a few covers on the setlist -- you think Eddie might grab the mic to say something but he just rushes offstage as fast as he can.
"That was so metal," Dustin cries. He's still shouting although the music has ended. Your own ears are ringing a little.
"Dude, volume!" Steve tells him, but he's grinning too. You are all buzzing, actually, full of the energy of live music and love for Eddie.
"We have to come again," Lucas says.
"You can come any time, Sinclair, especially if you keep wearing those shirts!" Eddie says from behind you. He's sweaty and bright eyed, eyeliner smudged and his dimples distinct as he smiles at you. You go to hug him but Dustin beats you.
"That was sick," he yells. The boys pile onto him and Max offers him a high five and a genuine smile.
"You having fun, Red?" he asks her, always gentle with her without being condescending. "Love the sleeves."
"It was pretty cool," she shrugs. "Worth all the noise you make back home." He sticks his tongue out at her and tugs on her braid.
"I'm impressed, dude," Steve says, offering his own high five as Eddie extracts himself from the kids before going in for that weird half-hug thing that guys do. He looks like he's going to ask about the eyeliner, but Robin practically throws herself at him.
"That was so cool! I didn't even know you could sing and how did you do that one thing with the like, high notes that were so fast and then when you spun around and made it sound like it was wobbling how did you make the music sound like that --"
"Thanks, Buckley," Eddie laughs, pulling away from her. "Gonna turn you into a metalhead, just you wait."
"Oh, good luck with that." She flicks his bicep before looking at you. The kids have started to talk amongst themselves, wandering back to the bar for some more sodas. "Steve, let's go flirt with the bartender."
"Robin--" She drags him off with a meaningful look at you that has you laughing. You never mind waiting for Eddie -- you'd wait forever for just a moment with him and it would still be worth it. Plus, you're the one he gets to go home with.
"And there's my baby," he says, finally wrapping his arms around your waist and lifting you into the air for just a second. You cling to him without an ounce of embarrassment. He sets you down and eyes your t-shirt. "Do I have you to blame for unleashing these freaks into The Hideout?"
"They've always wanted to come," you remind him. "So we organized it. I think they're all having fun bothering the regulars." Eddie looks at you for a long second before smacking a kiss to your cheek.
"Thank you, really," he says, softer now. "It was really something to look out and see all of you cheering me on."
"You're the coolest person we all know."
"Really?" He scoffs but you know that he's happy, that he's proud of himself. "Don't think anyone has ever said that to me before."
"Yeah, I mean you're a rockstar. Which I knew, for the record, but now everyone else has seen you in action."
"Thanks, baby," he says, pulling you back in to kiss you properly this time. Your hands curl into his damp t-shirt and you're smiling too big for it to be a good kiss.
"You smell, Eddie," you say against his lips.
"Can we go get some food now?" Dustin says, the others falling into line behind him like ducks in a row.
"Hell yeah we can," Eddie says, pulling away from you. "Let me go help with tear down then we're out of here. Being a rockstar is hard work."
@cryscendo wanted to hear more about my Hevans AU so here are a couple of my favorite bullet points on my extensive outline.
Below a cut because I got too excited and it's long
Rocky Horror happens but like… what if Sam plays Frank and Kurt plays Rocky? Like they try to shoehorn kurt into frank and instead he says he might want to play rocky.
Sam asks about playing frank n furter after Mike’s parents pull him from the show. It’s after he’s read through the script and now understand what the show is about and it’s definitely not because frank gets to fool around with rocky.
Sam is the one who sees Karofsky cornering kurt by his locker. No talking to shue or sue because they’re useless
Sam overhears finn refusing to help Kurt and goes off on him for it.
Kurt being the one to fawn over Sam when he gets hurt in the fight with karofsky
Sam maybe offers to help Kurt teach finn and burt how to dance
That’s the first time Sam hears about karofsky threatening to kill kurt
Kurt and sam dance down the isle together, putting quinn and mercedes together
Same happens during just the way you are, kurt hands burt off to carole and he looks for mercedes but Sam appears to take over
Sam and Kurt get the duet for Sectionals
"Kurt, I want you to look me in the eye, okay? And answer this question. If we lived in a world where noone cared about you being gay or me being bi and there was no reason to see us as anything other than two people who happen to be singing a love song… would you still be uncomfortable singing this song with me? Because I genuinely do not care what anyone thinks about it, I don't care if they think I'm gay, if they make fun of me, or any of that. But if you feel uncomfortable singing a love song with me for a reason other than protecting me, then I will drop it and we can sing something else. But I would love to sing this song with you."
Kurt being very uncomfortable during the sex ed lessons from miss holiday
Sam actively asking her for resources of queer sex
Kurt panicking and thinking Sam is asking for right now and not just because he wants to be prepared for the future so he can make kurt’s first time special if they get there
“I’m not ready for that”
“Oh, babe, I know. And that’s okay. I dont’ expect you to be ready today or tomorrow or even anytime soon. I just want to make sure I know what I’m doing, so that when or if we ever do have sex… I can make it special or you”
Okay, so why would the santana and karofsky thing happen in this? Would it just be because she wants to pull the jock vote? Is it just for the beard thing? How does she not turn the entire glee club against her? Did she still make him apologize to Kurt and the rest of the Glee club? How does Sam react to Santana dating Karofksy?
Oh, fuck it, none of that matters. Karofksy will just run with someone else, it’s just simpler that way.
Rachel could still ask Sam to go to prom with her “because obviously you can’t go with Kurt since you’re not out” You know, because she’s awful.
Meet Me On the Dance Floor Part 3
Part 1 Part 2
Eddie found Mike on the curb in front of Steve’s house looking like a kicked puppy.
Eddie sat down next to him and bumped his shoulder. “You okay?”
Mike huffed out a bitter laugh. “As okay as one can be having their entire world view turned upside down.”
“It’s a good thing we’re experts at upside down,” Eddie said with a grin. “So hit me. What was so life changing that you ran out of the house like it was on fire?”
Mike blushed. “I think I’m bisexual.”
“Okay,” Eddie said, pursing his lips. “Finding out you’re not straight is pretty mind altering, but not quite what I was expecting.”
Mike sighed. “And I have been since I was eleven.”
Now that was life shattering. “Yeah, how do you figure?”
“Because one night I caught Steve trying to climb up to my sister’s window, and some part of me hoped he’d get the wrong one.” Mike clasped his hands together and silently begged Eddie to understand why without him having to spell it out.
“Steve was you first crush?” Eddie cried out.
Mike started flapping his hands. “For fuck’s sake, keep it down! I don’t want him to hear. Jesus.”
“So wait, why did you attach yourself to me?” Eddie asked narrowing his eyes.
Mike huffed out a bitter laugh. “Have you seen my sister? You two could almost be twins. And I figured Steve had a type for girls and maybe that would extend to boys too.” He waved at Eddie. “Which, clearly, I was right. So when you came along, looking so much like Nance, I thought that if I hung out with you I could figure out how to be the cool version of her.”
Eddie cocked his head and grinned. “Yeah, I noticed Steve had a type, too.” He bumped Mike’s shoulder again. “And I when I thought he was straight, I figured I could tease him about it. A chance to flirt with him without consequence, because I knew he couldn’t return my feelings.” He clasped his hands together and fiddled his rings. “And then I find out that not only did he like guys, too, he liked me specifically. And let me tell you what a revelation that was.”
He waved his hands wildly. “So when I say I get it, believe me. I really, really do.”
Mike sighed. “He said that I got my feelings all jumbled up and started putting the blame on him.”
Eddie nodded. “Sounds about right. He’s pretty smart.”
Mike groaned. “He’s so much better at this than like anyone else.”
“Only because he’s had time to practice.” He stood up. “Come on, I’ll take you home. Just let me go tell the others.”
Mike nodded.
*
To say Steve was surprised to see a crying Mike Wheeler on his doorstep would be an understatement.
“Mike!” he said when he opened his door expecting Eddie. “Hey, man. What’s wrong?”
“El broke up with me,” Mike said.
“Shit,” Steve said with a sigh. “Come on in. I’ll get you some water.”
Mike went to the front room and sat down hard on the sofa.
Steve came out a few minutes later with a bottle of water. “Sorry it’s not cold. Whoever drank the one in the fridge didn’t replace it.”
“No it’s fine.” He opened the bottle and took a sip.
“So what happened?” Steve asked, sitting down next to him.
Mike sighed. “After we talked I realized that I hadn’t spent much time with Dustin and Lucas and especially Will, so I thought we could have a camp-out just the four of us. Like in the old days before the Upside Down.”
“Sounds like fun,” Steve agreed. “But she wasn’t a fan?”
“She wanted it to be all of us,” Mike said leaning his elbows on his knees and clasping his hands. He looked down at the floor. “Her and Max and Erica, and you older kids, too. But I just wanted it to be us boys. Especially with Lucas going to Duke, and Dustin MIT and me UCLA. Will hasn’t decided which one of the many schools he got into to go to yet.”
“So with the four of you being literally flung to the far corners of the country you just wanted to have some guy time,” Steve said. “Makes sense.”
Mike threw his arms in the air. “Tell her that. I told her we would be have plenty of parties and get togethers with everyone before we leave. But I just wanted to hang out with my friends.” He let out a shuddering breath. “Then she asked if Max and Erica weren’t friends.”
“Ouch,” Steve commiserated.
“Yeah.” Mike’s voice cracked. “So I backpedaled but that only seemed to make things worse. And then the next thing I know she was telling me we were through and was storming away.”
“Fuck, man,” Steve said. “Being dumped is by far the worst feeling of your life.”
“Is this how it felt when Nancy dumped you?” Mike asked.
Steve sighed. “Probably worse. I’m not trying to compare pain. But you had some inkling that things between you weren’t going well. I got completed blindsided. She called me bullshit. Couldn’t even tell me that she loved me at any point in our relationship.”
Mike winced. “I wish I could say I’m surprised, but I’m really not. I love my sister, but sometimes she can be a real hardass. Which works for being a reporter and fighting evil, not so much when you want to be romantic.”
Steve laughed. “Seems to be working out with Jonathan.”
“Yeah, yeah it is,” Mike said.
Steve bumped his shoulder. “Maybe it’s fate that Wheelers and Byers are meant to be.”
Mike blushed. “Will wasn’t my first boy crush, though.”
Steve frowned for a moment. “Ah.”
“Yeah,” Mike said with a bitter laugh.
“Explains all that latent hostility,” he teased.
Mike’s laugh was clearer this time. “Yeah, I guess it does.”
Steve smiled. “So you going to ask Will out?”
Mike hung his head. “I don’t know man,” he whispered. “I want to but what if that ship has sailed?”
“So chase after it, Mike,” he whispered back. “Seriously if Will is who you want, don’t hide it. Let him know.”
“Thanks, man,” Mike said.
“Finish that water,” Steve said, pointing to the water in his hand. “I’ve got to get ready for work.”
Mike nodded.
Chapter 15: These Boots Are Made for Walkin'
You didn't think that you would get more surprises, in just three days everything went just down and crazy again and the very last thing that you would expect was too see Eleven again.
And not how the last time you saw her, cause she was alive and well and right in front of you and for the first time since everything happened, you let out a relieved sigh cause El was actually the very first good thing that happened in all that period and you were so glad that she was back.
Back and alive.
"Eleven?" Mike asked, surprised at seeing his hmm...former crush being alive and well
"Mike?"
You smiled at their little interaction as they got lost in ther little world talking about how Mike reached out to her and everyday she listened, 353 days to be more exactly, you turned to Dustin and saw that he had tears on his eyes and a big ass smile on his face and you were relieved to know that it were happy tears.
You remember the day he came crying to you, he was beyond happy cause Will was fine but was absolutely crushed when he spoke about El, how they were sad for the disappearence of fhe young girl. You found him after you, Jonathan, Nancy and Steve were back from the Byers house after taking the Demogorgon down and he couldn't stop the tears streaming down at his face, he slept with you, not only for that night but for a entire week till he stopped having nightmares.
You pulled down the cap of his hat on his face and he adjusted it and hugged you, arms holding you tightly while your hand moved back and forth on his shoulders to bring him confort, Steve smiled at the scene.
"Why didn't you told me you were there? That you were okay?" Mike asked her
"Cause i wouldn't let her" you were surprised at Hopper's statement and exchanged a look with Steve that was surprised too "The hell is this? Where you been?"
"Where have you been?" Eleven answered at his directioned ask for her
If you weren't that surprised, now you absolutely where, looking at Hopper hugging El and she doing it almost instantly make your brows furrow so deep that if it was possible, they would mend with your eyes.
"You've been hiding her...You've been hiding her this whole time!" Mike screamed and pushed Hopper's shoulder
"Hey! Hey! Let's talk...alone!"
When Hopper took Mike to some of the rooms of the house and closed the door, Lucas and Dustin hurriedly runned up to El, giving her a tight hug that she instantly returned.
"We missed you"
"I missed you too" she responded Lucas
"We talked about you pretty much everyday" Dustin said "Y/N/N pretended she was bored but she was downright missing you a lots too!"
"Teeth!"
"What?"
"You have teeth" she answered him after just fulling poking his front teeth
"Oh, you like this pearls?" Dustin made his infamous purring and you rolled your eyes, pinching the bridge of your nose and laughing a little about how stupid that sound was.
"I told a million times to stop doing that! It's weird" you told him and he gave you tongue
"Y/N/N!"
"El!" you quickly enveloped the girl in your arms the moment she runned to you to give you in a hug
You think that you never hugged someone this hard before, you hadn't the chance to say goodbye to her last time you saw her and now you could hold her tightly against you, hand softly stroking her hair while doing so, big smile on your face at seeing the girl "I missed you so much!"
"Me too"
"I'm so sorry i wasn't there for you last time"
"It's okay"
"She cried for nearly a week after you were gone cause she didn't knew what happened to you" Dustin said at the back
"You were the one that couldn't stop crying everytime you brought her name cause you missed her!" you gave him tongue and Eleven laughed at that.
Eleven always like to see you and Dustin bickerings, it took her a while to understand that it wasn't serious when you first met each other. Eleven missed you a lot, you were actually the first grown up she was introduced to that she wasn't afraid that did in fact helped her, she looked up at you for everything and even considered you a older sister figure, she hoped that now you two could have time to get along well.
You got out of her hug and gave her a kiss on the forehead and took a step back, you heard Mike shouting at the back still talking with Hopper, you didn't know what made Hopper take Eleven under his guard but you were glad and could understand theyr dynamic very well, Max got closer to Eleven, giving her her hand to shake but Eleven only looked at her and went straight to Joyce, giving her a hug, you gave a small smile to Max and massaged her shoulder.
"Hmm...she's just like this towards new people, she will open to you, eventually..." she gave you a look and you shrugged "It's hard for her to open up, don't worry, i know you guys will be good friends"
The girl huffed at you and went to the other side of the living room and you laughed a little at her, you didn't blame her, Eleven was someone that really would take a while to open up to new people.
"So that's Eleven" Steve thought out loud when he got by your side
"That's her"
"She seems...i don't know, normal"
"Normal?" you laughed at his tone, hands on the pockets of your jeans "What you had in mind?"
"I don't know, Dustin mentioned that she was bald and insane, i didn't imagine, well...this"
"Wow Harrington, dense" you laughed
"Hey, give me a break would you?" he laughed alongside
"Yeah, ok pretty boy, i forgot that you have never met her" you said looking at him "She was bald and insane, but still was a little girl, a scared one, but a little girl nonethless"
"Dustin mentioned that she immediatly opened up to you?"
"I think so, but i guess it was only because i was already with the boys so i guess she felt more at ease"
"Is there a person that don't like you? I mean, besides obviously Tommy H. and Carol?"
"Hmmm...that's a good question, i have no idea"
"That's good, i don't think anyone could hate you"
"Oh yeah? And why you are so sure?" you asked, tone full of playfulness
"Just stating the facts, sweetheart"
Before you could reply or even thinking of an answer, you heard Joyce and Eleven talking and focused on them "You opened this gate before, right?" Joyce asked the girl
"Yes"
"Do you think if we...if we got you back there, that you could close it? "
Eleven nodded and a few moments later, Hopper and Mike were back and your little group was reunited again and tracing over a plan of how you could stop the demodogs, get Will's out of the Mind Flayer's reach and close the gate on the Hawkins Lab.
"It's not like it was before, it's grown, a lot, and...i mean, considering we can get in there, that place is crawling with those dogs" Hopper said explaining about the gate
"Demo-dogs" Dustin corrected and you sighed
"I'm sorry, what?"
"Dustin...how's that important now?" you asked Dustin
"It's just uh, Demogorgon and dogs, demo-dogs..like, you put them together, it sounds pretty badass-"
"How is that important now?" Hopper echoed what you said
"It's not, sorry" He said and you taped the cap of his hat, making it go down his face and he side hugged you, a clear sign that he was embarrassed and you turn your attention back on the conversation.
"I can do it" Eleven said to Hopper
"You're not hearing me"
"I'm hearing you, i can do it"
"Even if El can, there's still another problem: if the brain dies, the body dies" Mike interjects
"I thought that was the whole point" Max said, confused tone on her voice
"It is but if we're really sure about this...I mean, if El closes the gate and kill's the Mind Flayer's army..."
"Will's a part of his army" Lucas said and you sighed at what that meant
"Close the gate will kill him"
You shivered at the thought and followed the rest at the room Will was resting, if wasn't the drug that Joyce inserted, you sure that the Mind Flayer would've find a way to get to you, you didn't want anything happening to Will  you just wanted to be able to help him and sent the Mind Flayer back to where it belongs so you could get rid of it.
"He likes it cold..." Joyce said softly, a hint of realisation on her voice, you frowned
"What?" Hopper voiced
"It's what Will kept saying to me!" she strongly closed the opened window and you took a step back due to surprise and hit Steve's chest, his hands on your shoulders "We keep giving it what it wants!"
"If this is a virus and Will is the host..." Nancy said
"Then we need to make the host uninhatable" Jonathan completed, "cutes" you thought
"So if he likes it cold..."
"We need to burn it out of him" Joyce said
"Ok and how we do that? And of course it has the issue that it could easily find Will" you asked, confused at what could possibly be their plan
"We have to do it somewhere he doesn't know this time" Mike said
"Yeah, somewhere far away" Dustin suggested
"I know where" Hopper added
You thought how you would that cause the mission revolved on each group doing something: Joyce and Jonathan would go to make Will's inabitable for the Mind Flayer and Hopper and Eleven would go to the lab.
Something was itching at the back of your mind, you, Steve and Nancy had stricty orders to stay at the Byers house but you didn't felt like being behind would help, it was dangerous of course, but you didn't know if you could be able to sit and wait for everyone get their chores correctly and eveything would be all flowers and sun again.
You wanted to be of help, well, you and Mike, and you tried arguing Hopper on that, that you could be of some use, of some help, you knew the party when it was just the four of them and you needed to do something to help Will so you really got frustrated when Hopper didn't change his mind and you let out a huff when you accompanied everyone outside to their cars.
You could see Nancy reluntely thinking about going with Jonathan, you thought that if she goes with him, than that means Steve will be 100% sure that what he had with Nancy was over officially and you knew that he deep down, would want her to chose him.
"Y/N/N" Joyce said getting your attention on her after she let Will on Jonathan's car
"Yes?"
"I know you probably a little frustrated to be here and do nothing, i know you" she smiled and your eyes got full of unshed tears
"It's just...i wanna be of help, be able to do something, i feel like i didn't do much for him on these last weeks a-and..." you couldn't help the sniff you let out and she hugged you
"I know darling, i know how that it must be taken a toll on you but look, you always took such a good care of them, Will always said that if he could've had a big sister, he would want to be you" she took a step back and cleared a drop that had fallen from your eyes "So i need you here, to take care of the kids, cause they trust you and feel safe with you, think you can do that? I assure you that that will be such a great help for me" she smiled
Joyce always knew what to say to you on those moments, when everything happened the first time, she was the first to check up on you to make sure that you were alright with everything in taking care of the kids and making sure that they wouldn't hurt themselves, so you finally nodded and let out a sigh to her "Ok...Ok, yeah, i can do that"
"Thank you darling, please, take care ok?"
"Yeah, i'm gonna look over th-"
"No honey, you take care, i know you will take care of them, but i need you to take care too"
"I...i will try"
"Goodc she smiled and rubbed your shoulders before walking to the car
"Take care too"
"We wil!"
She said closing the door and you waved, you were surprised when you saw Nancy walking over to you and corrected your stance, puzzled look on your face "Take care of Mike for me? Please?" she asked you
"Sure, you can count on me, you going with Jonathan?"
"Well yes, i guessed that he would probably need me-"
"Don't worry, i got it" you smiled at her "I'm glad you going with him, i know that you being there will be important for him"
"Yes, i thought so too and about Steve..."
"You guys should talk about it, i noticed everything to come to a conclusion of you two, but as a friend i suggest you to end things in the right way, i think he deserves that even if he already knows that things have come to a end"
"That's what i thought too, after all this mess"
"Yeah, after all this mess, now, go, they waiting, i'm gonna look after Mike, don't worry" What she did next you were not even waiting cause she gave you the tighest hug ever, it's not like you and Nancy were friends, you never were since you walked in different group of people, the only thing in common you shared was the Upside Down weirdness, you hesitated a bit but hugged her back.
The hug didn't last long and she quickly got inside of Jonathan's car and off they all went, Hopper following behind on his truck while you and Steve stood on the porch just outside of the Byers house, you waving softly till the cars wouldn't be able to be seen, hands inside of the pockets of Steve's jacket "Oh"
"What?"
"I'm still wearing your jacket" you said softly and looked at the jacket "I totally forgot i was wearing it"
"It's okay, you can use it a little bit more, it looks good on you anyway" he smiled at you and you got flustered
"You think so?"
"Yeah, i do" you smiled and looked at him "Thank you, anyways"
"For what?"
"Being there, i think you helped me a lot with everything with Nancy"
"So...you good? Not like good good, because i just know it must hurt"
"Yeah, i'm all good, i knew that things were already over after the party, i think i just needed some time to really let it rest"
"I'm happy for you, not because you guys are over, nothing like thatc you started rambling and he smiled softly at that "But for you guys finally putting a end to it so there won't be any doubts resting"
"I think so too, i was the one who said that she should go, he would need her there"
"Yeah..." you trailed
"But you wanna know something?" he said getting closer to where you where standing
"What?" you asked, shiver running down your spine
"All of this brought at least one good thing and it's something that i'm really interested to get know more, if you let me" he said softly
You were left speechless at what he implied, butterflies dancing in your stomach and you didn't really know if what he was implying it was what you were thinking cause the almost kiss on the couch wasn't something that you thought like an bare minimum interest of him on you and instead thought it was just something of the moment.
You would've say something, you were ready to say something, but you were left speechless again on the porch with his big brown eyes so deeply concentrated on you, you don't think that he really was ready to move on just now but deep down you hoped that if he did, you hoped that he would thought of you being able to wait for him and you wished you could be there by his side, even if everything just stayed as a friendship. So when you were able to finally answer him, you heard something shattering inside the house and you sighed.
"C'mon pretty boy" you said softly, a smile dancing on your lips "Let's see what those gremlins are doing."
He smiled at the nickname that by now just looked that belonged to him, he loved it coming out of your mouth by now and when you passed by him, he noticed the tip of your ears turning red, a sign that you were flustered and a thing that he thought it was adorable of you and followed you inside, closing the door behind him.
This is what actually happens in the monologue scene
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like there’s so much misinformation between Bylers and Mlvns about whether ‘the monologue worked’ or ‘the monologue didn’t work/caused the end of the world’ when in reality both statements are wrong but also both kind of right. I think people (mainly Mlvns let’s be real) have a tendency to just see what they want to see, but this is how it actually plays out on screen:
El is choking, and Mike is just repeating her name so Will reminds Mike of his love confession which leads Mike finally say that he loves El. He repeats it many times, and says many more contradictory or factually untrue statements
El cries/looks upset the entire time, but it could be argued that she’s just in a very stressful situation. She laughs at the t-shirt mention and does kind of look pissed when he drops the superhero line but if you really wanted I guess you could argue she’s just feeling determined
El looks over at Max whilst Mike is telling her she has to fight, and she begins to focus
There is a final cut to Mike saying ‘fight’ again before El rids herself of the vines completely, which suggests his words, at least at the end, did help her get out
The important part Mlvns conveniently ignore: Mike may have helped El break free at least to some degree, but he does not help her save Max or defeat Vecna. It is too late. Yes, El blasts Vecna away from Max (not killing him or even really harming him, that is all Nancy, Robin, Steve and the Russia team) but it’s too late and Max dies from her injuries, triggering the apocalypse
Mike does not canonically help her revive Max. I am so tired of Mlvns clinging onto that one flashback on the script (which is not canon because it literally didn’t happen) instead El has flashback memories of Max teaching her about girl power/autonomy and essentially telling her she doesn’t need men
So yes, the monologue might have worked to help her free herself by encouraging her to fight but no, she did not save Max or Hawkins or really do anything useful as a result. Honestly though, the scene is intentionally very confusing. I see how people go into it expecting the power of love to help Eleven so they think that’s what they’re seeing and it kind of is…? But it doesn’t fully work? It helps her somewhat but it doesn’t save the day? And the ‘love’ was also professed due to a lie so that adds another layer of weirdness? Maybe there’s a metaphor in there somewhere idk. Anyway Byler endgame because let’s be real if Mlvn was truly in love there would be no debate around the monologue’s usefulness and they would not have associated Mike’s confession with the apocalypse at ALL. The full picture is very blurry but the one thing that’s just canonically wrong is any Mlvn claim that the monologue saved anyone or helped the situation in any way. They’re remembering the scene how they think it happened and not how it actually happened (I have a whole other post about how this is a pattern throughout the show).
"Climate is EVERYTHING" (by Jordan Peterson)
I keep getting pestered about JP, even though I'm not a big fan, or really have good input on what he says. But the argument that people have about his words he said on Joe Rogaine is an interesting one.
First off; WHO IS JORDAN PETERSON? All I know is that he's some scientist of some renown on the level of Bill Nye and Mike Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Except for some reason, he's like. The conservative edgelorde Science Guru opposed to the Liberals Nye and Grasses.
He's a PoliSci and psychology major. Which is odd to me, as you'd think being a PoliSci would lend itself to being a sociology major instead. (Don't quote me on that..Poli Sci IS sociology. That's the joke.)
What makes Jordan Peterson unique is a stark contrasting opinion that seems to ignore how laymen use words. You know, like a typical college educated liberal. (No, I'm not bored of that joke *yet*) in this day and age though, that he has laymen conservatives on his side seems to indicate that they too resonate with what he says.
Why do I say that?
When people typical talk about *Climate Change* or *The Environment* which is often understood as the effects of human caused pollution in the environment, and the effects of that on the warming and cooling of the atmosphere; Peterson instead shows confusion as to *how do they boil down *THE ENTIRE ENVIRONMENT DOWN TO A COUPLE OF VARIABLES!?*
I don't know if he's being obtuse, or if he's just so used to being in particular echo chambers that that *particular* distinction is necessary.
Probably has to do something with the air pollution, energy tax credits, dumping, simultaneously.
I cannot state enough, that I don't watch or care to watch Jordan Peterson's videos because of how his information is presented. He has a specific audience, that audience understands what he means and could definitely explain it better than I ever could.
But what seems silly to me, is that he completely throws out *common* understandings of these specific topics, and then just, refuses to explain why they should be thrown out, except that the way he understands those words is that they are *to broad in scope* for what he would prefer they should be used for.
And that is an adequate explanation if you're speaking at a technical level. Which he often does. But as a poli-sci major... He *knows* better than to speak at that level when he's not speaking specifically to a technical audience.
Which makes the hill he's picked a strange hill to die on. "Everybody in the world should instead adopt my understanding of language and how it relates to the world" instead of "as a poli-sci, I know you have to meet people where they are at."
There's an argument to be made about myself specifically and my word choice, I'm certain. Which is why I don't really care to call out everything he does. Just that, he knows what he's doing, and how words are used at both a laymen level AND at a technical level, but instead chooses to force laymen, who come to him to learn, to know better before asking to learn from him.
Kinda like a Sheldon (from BBT). He wants people to be able to talk on his level, but refuses to teach even when they come to him to learn. (Almost as if he already expects people to be as knowledgeable as he is.)
Which is actually another old "liberal" trope. That superior act, disdainful look at the "plebs" for not knowing the bare bones basics of political sociology and climatology right out of the gate in high school.
A New Ka-Tet
By Mike Bird
Afraid wasn't a strong enough word for what he was feeling. He was terrified. Terrified and confused.
Just over 3 weeks ago, he had been part of a pack...a Ka-Tet.The largest, strongest one in the entire forest. True...he hadn't been one of the leaders of that pack...or really even liked by most of its members...but at least he had been a part of it.
'Was I, though?' he now thought, in his strange way of thinking. 'Was I really?'
What he had been, in that pack of beautiful but dangerous creatures, was bullied. Bullied and beaten, on not only a daily basis, but usually on an hourly basis.
The others would--seemingly out of no more than boredom--attack him. Biting. clawing. Snarling. Sometimes they did it as a group. Sometimes individually. Regardless of the numbers, though, if he didn't submit to his attackers immediately, the pack leaders would step in, and that's when the real beatings began. That's when the blood and hair would fly. Those were the times that he would always wonder if this was his end.
So, even though he could have fought back against most of his bullies, he didn't. He would roll onto his back and stretch out his unusually long neck. His odd, curly tail bunched up beneath him. His intelligent eyes squeezed shut. By exposing his vital areas in this way, his soft throat and his even softer belly, he was telling them, "you win! I give up!"
He would do this even though it filled him with shame to do so. Shame and embarrassment. He didn't do it out of fear. The beautiful, striped creature wasn't afraid to die. What he was afraid of, was dying for the wrong reason.
He knew that he had a higher calling. There was an amazing reason for him being on this earth. He wasn't sure how he knew this, he just did. Likewise, he didn't know what that reason for his existence was, but he knew it was just as important as the beam overhead. The powerful, invisible beam that moved the clouds and shaped the trees. Or, nearly as important at least.
He was a Billy-Bumbler...one of the most common animals in the forest. His kind had multiplied tremendously since the world had moved on. They ruled the forest by sheer force of numbers. There were bigger animals. There were stronger animals. But the Billy-Bumbler's ability to think strategically and to work together as a pack set them apart from the other creatures in the woods.
On that day--a little over 3 weeks ago--that our Bumbler's life changed forever, he was looking for a place to hide. The leaders were bored. It never failed that when they got bored, the thing they liked best to break that boredom was to attack him.
He was still nursing a nasty wound on his left flank from the last time it had happened . It was seeping blood even as he snuck through the undergrowth in search of a hiding place. He didn't really expect to find that place. He had tried before, many times, and had never been successful.
He could hear the yapping of the pack behind him as he slunk through the woods. He had been in this area many times, and knew there was no place for him to go. Yet he had felt drawn to this exact place. That feeling of being drawn was getting stronger.
As he crept around a tree he had seen hundreds of times before--the hungry sound of the pack getting closer--he saw something impossible. There was a hollow spot in a tree that had never been there before. Quickly, he ran toward it.
He stopped just outside the hollow. Oddly, he couldn't see anything at all inside of the hollow. Sunlight was shining on the spot. He should have been able to see the insides of the tree. But he couldn't. It was as if the hollow was really just a black circle painted in the tree. It had no smell.
He was trying to make up his mind what it was he was seeing and what he should do, when the pack made up his mind for him. They burst out of the undergrowth and ran for him. Without thinking, he ran into the dark place.
As soon as entered the tree, he felt a sinking feeling in his belly and a dizziness in his head. He stopped and vomited into the darkness. He suddenly realized that he could no longer hear the pack behind him. He turned around and looked out of the hole.
The forest was there, the same as it had been, (was it the same though? Didn't the trees seem even taller? Older?) but his pack was gone. He stepped out of the tree--there was no sick feeling when he came out--and into the empty woods. He immediately knew that not only was his pack no longer there...there were no animals at all left in the woods.
He was alone.
That's when the terror began to set in. He started walking. He knew he had to get out of this forest. It was a week later when he reached the edge of the trees and saw a long, impossible ribbon of road stretching off into the horizon.
That's also when he saw the boy for the first time. The boy and his three companions. One of those companions was a man with a very large gun strapped to his left hip. That man scared him.
The Billy-Bumbler's eyes were drawn back to the boy and an ancient instinct awoke inside of him.
"Oy!" he quietly huffed under his breath. Silently, The Billy-Bumbler followed the group. He had a feeling that this might this be a new Ka-Tet. He felt himself rushing toward his destiny. What was Saffron Mike's initial reaction to hearing about William (+ Evan in tow)'s crimes? Was he told by someone he had any kind of rapport with, or did police just show up wherever he was staying like Hey It's Forensic Interview Time
Hi, anon! This is a really good question, one that I don't really feel equipped to answer, but I've been trying to think about how Mike would respond ever since you left this ask ages ago.
I think Mike would have first found out about what happened through town gossip, wherever he is at this point (not in Utah.)
I think the story about a man who killed countless kids across Utah (and possibly outside of Utah? The existence of the Fredbear and Friends tv show suggests that Freddy's/Fredbear’s was widely successful) using his child entertainment center as a lure would be the kind of thing to get news coverage across the US, or at least across the section of the US where Utah is. That being said, in the au, the news stories just talk about a "father and son duo in Utah" and leave out names to protect Evan’s privacy as a minor (I'm aware this likely is not how it would work irl-- especially in modern days-- but this is my au, so I'll do what I want).
Now, I'm not sure if Mike himself is the kind to watch the news or read newspapers, but he'd likely overhear whispers from other townspeople about this father and son in Utah who used their successful animatronic-centered child entertainment locations to kill kids. He has no reason to assume that has to be Evan and William-- he knows how William is, but surely even he's not capable of that? Especially Evan?-- but Mike still has this sinking feeling that glues him to a news station/paper. He finally gets some details-- kids stuffed inside suits, crimes spanning multiple years... Freddy's.
My current version of the timeline has Mike at 19-20 when he finds out. Evan has to spend a year or so in psych wards, with psychologists trying to understand what happened to him and deprogram some of Evan's most unsettling "understandings" about the world and his most violent urges before finally seeing if it's at all possible for him to be replaced back in society.
So, Mike is still really young at this point. It's only been two or three years since he left William, and this... this is not what he expected the Afton household to look like while he was gone.
I think his initial, gut reaction is "this is some kind of sick joke." Almost like the news casters, the townspeople, the entire country got together and decided to completely fuck with him. He's angry. What kind of sick people would joke about something like this? He tears whatever room he's in apart, so hopefully he's either not in public or he runs fast enough to get out when the police are called.
Eventually it settles in that this isn't a joke, and... that's where I'm at a loss for how Mike responds.
He's thought about Evan almost every day since he ran away, wondering what Ev is doing and if he's okay now that he's been left alone with William, now that Mike isn't there to hurt him anymore.
It's clear now that Evan wasn't okay all that time.
Mike blames himself for "letting this happen", of course. But I also think he can't quite believe that Evan was helping kill kids. Sure, Mike thinks, he used to hurt me before I left, but... only me, he hurt me alone, because I deserved it, because he was scared of me; he would never hurt anyone else.
I don't know whether the early news reports would have said anything about Evan being manipulated into it or not.
Maybe, desperate to understand what happened and make sure Ev is okay, Mike tries driving all the way back to Utah and demanding to see Evan. Maybe Mike drives to the nearest pay phone, calls the Hurricane police, and demands to be allowed to speak to his brother (likely so stressed and hysterical that he neglects to mention his or Evan’s names, poor thing).
@dire-kumori suggested the idea that the kind volunteer at a runaway teen shelter who gave Mike his vw bus could have been another version of my human glamrock Freddy from mbmw, so maybe if Mike didn't know what to do and was really desperate for someone to turn to, he might find his way back to Freddy for some modicum of advice and comfort, since Freddy has been the biggest, greatest support Mike has had in his life at this point. Up until now, I was thinking that Mike wouldn't get in touch with the Kind Volunteer until after things got better between Mike and Evan, but given how much emotional growth Mike ends up needing to go through to be there for Evan, it might make sense to have Mike go to Freddy earlier in the timeline
Like I said earlier, I don't feel I really know how Mike would respond. It's... a lot for him to process, to say the least.
