no one asked, but I’ve been thinking a lot about the albatross and its placement on the bargaining playlist. I have come to the conclusion that the song serves as a warning to anyone who tries to avoid/‘imprison’ her. this man was told that she would kill his garden, tempt him, and eventually destroy him. she was a wild wind instead of a normal, harmless rose. yet, he could neither avoid her nor lock her away in a tower. he was too drunk to think his decision through (‘cross your thoughtless heart / only liquor anoints you’). he chose her despite all the warnings he received. he shot all the messengers who tried to persuade him. he couldn’t fully commit to being with her, either, so he locked her away in a tower. ultimately, she was the only one who could protect him from the same men who once condemned her. he chose to be subjected to that danger by being with her (‘the rain is always gonna come if you’re standing with me’ —> ‘I’m the life you chose, and all this terrible danger’). the two characters in the song seem to finally be at peace. however, the outro switches to third person and makes it clear that she will, in fact, destroy him. she is the albatross in his life. he will wear her around his neck forever. he could try to bargain with her all he wants, but he was delusional to think this would end any other way. she is both the angel and the devil in his life. she could protect him from the media attention she subjected him to, but she could simultaneously destroy him by feeding into the rain of fire through her songwriting.

One of the reasons the ancient Greeks relied on chariots for warfare is that saddles and especially stirrups had not been invented yet and sitting bareback (and bare-assed lbr) on a horse while trying to throw a spear at someone would have been exceedingly difficult.

#like chariots are kind of stupid if horseback riding has been invented #chariots require two people and two horses (and often had a third just in case) #one person to drive the chariot and the other person to throw things from it #whereas riding the horse is more efficient horse to warrior style #and gives you leverage #and better control #wheels break and get stuck and chariots flip #horses have better footing than wheels #that said people DID ride horses #but no saddles no stirrups so in warfare it was kinda pointless #I'm going through my drafts and i don't remember why I wrote this #but it is true #It is weird to think about all the shit that hadn't been invented yet #like we have a pretty static view of before electricity and after #but fucking stirrups didn't exist yet #saddles didn't exist yet #that's kind of wild

For steve saga I've watched from the verry beginning and kinda was watching it on and off after (spoilers !) The rainbow town was destroyed and mainly stopped after the whole either origin steve stuff or illusion/reality stuff I don't remember which. Like ik some of it bc I'd watch the recent episodes occasionally but I'm more knowledgeable on the middle to early parts of it 😈 😈 😈

perhaps because it is before the injury but I almost always realized the stark contrast in Thomas and Anne confronting Henry about jousting.

When Thomas asks Henry not to harm Gregory, Henry responds kindly, well in a Henry way. Thomas was potentially asking Henry, a victor and somewhat of a prodigy at jousting to lower his skill and to potentially, if it came to it, lose to spare Gregory. And if not lose, certainly not win. Henry of course didn't promise Thomas anything, but rather than lash out at him, attempt to comfort him.

On the other hand when Anne asked, for his own wellbeing, for him to stop jousting not only did he yell at her, but he did so publicly, and she was shamed for it.

The contrast and the similarities of Anne and Thomas, and their parallels toward their proximity with Henry are very intriguing to me.
